  • Short memories needed as Rebels ready for Texas A&M

OXFORD — Ole Miss experienced highs and lows last week, knocking off Alabama in Tuscaloosa Tuesday before falling in overtime at Mississippi State on Saturday.

In the loaded Southeastern Conference, there’s no time to celebrate or mourn. Instead, as Ole Miss coach Chris Beard said, it’s critical to simply move on.

“I’ve always thought the next game is the biggest game on the schedule,” Beard said Tuesday. “It’s the same thing after a victory. As a coach, sometimes that’s even more challenging. When a team wins a game that’s perceived by others to be a big game — I’ve never really understood what that meant; the big game is the next one on the schedule — but it goes both ways. When you have some disappointment and heartbreak, you have to respond quickly. When you have some success, you have to get over it pretty quick and respond as well.”

His words ring true this week, starting with Wednesday’s 8 p.m. game between the 16th-ranked Rebels (15-3 overall, 4-1 in the SEC) and No. 13 Texas A&M (14-4, 3-2) at the Sandy and John Black Pavilion.

The game will be televised on ESPN2 with Tom Hart, Dane Bradshaw and Alyssa Lang on the call.

Texas A&M has picked up key wins this season over No. 21 Ohio State, No. 21 Creighton, Rutgers, Wake Forest, Texas Tech, and No. 11 Purdue. In SEC action, the Aggies have wins over Texas, No. 17 Oklahoma and LSU, with losses to No. 5 Alabama and No. 8 Kentucky.

“This is one of the best teams in college basketball,” Beard said. “It starts by just understanding they were good last year and they basically returned their whole team. The pieces they’ve added, from the outside looking in, look like perfect fits. …I think they’re one of those teams that could make a run. They’re one of those teams you probably could put on two hands that you could visualize winning a championship.”

Texas A&M is led by SMU transfer Zhuric Phelps’ 15.6 points per game, just ahead of fourth-year Aggie Wade Taylor IV at 15.4. Texas A&M is led on the glass by Solomon Washington at 6 per game.

Guided by Washington, the Aggies lead all of college basketball in offensive rebounding per game with an average of 16.6, and are a top-10 total rebounding team with a clip of 41.4 per outing. Texas A&M also ranks highly in free throw attempts per game (26, No. 11 in the NCAA), rebound margin (plus-8.5, No. 14 in the NCAA), free throws made per game (17.6, No. 24 in the NCAA), and bench points per game (30.5, No. 24 in the NCAA).

For Ole Miss, which was out-rebounded, 51-29, at Mississippi State last weekend, the boards are simply critical. It’s a message Beard has delivered to his team all week.

“There’s a method to their madness,” Beard said. “It’s a plan. Some teams, they run a play and they get a shot. To me, teams like this, they run a play, they get the shot and they continue to run the play. There’s an offensive rebounding strategy and teaching to this.”

As the Ole Miss Rebels gear up to face off against the Texas A&M Aggies this weekend, they will need to have short memories in order to stay focused and ready for the challenge ahead.

After a tough loss last week, the Rebels will need to put that game behind them and focus on the task at hand. Texas A&M is a tough opponent, and Ole Miss will need to bring their A-game in order to come out on top.

Short memories will be key for the Rebels as they prepare for this matchup. They can’t dwell on past mistakes or losses, but instead must focus on the present and what they need to do to come out victorious.

So as Ole Miss gets ready to take on Texas A&M, they must remember to have short memories and stay focused on the task at hand. With the right mindset and determination, the Rebels have a good chance of coming out on top in this highly anticipated game.

    Scouting the Opposition

Findlay: Saturday brings another huge moment in the Hillsdale-Findlay rivalry, as the two programs meet in a contest with significant G-MAC title implications.

After back-to-back disappointing seasons with no postseason appearance, Findlay is fully back among the DII elite with a top 10 ranking in both polls and a 16-1 start marred only by a loss to fellow top 10 Ferris State.

The Oilers have embraced an up-tempo style that includes an 11-man rotation and extremely balanced scoring. Athletic sophomore forwards Will Aljancic and Jagger Landers are the primary weapons, but the pair gets plenty of support, including from hometown hero Jake Bishop, sixth-man Ian Ioppolo and veterans Anthony Johnson and Mason Brandt.

Findlay has been excellent both offensively and defensively, with their 19-point scoring margin among the nation’s best.

Undefeated in G-MAC play, the Oilers could put a stranglehold on the G-MAC lead with a victory over the Chargers, but if they fall, Hillsdale would move into a tie for first, and put pressure on Findlay to defend home court later in the season.

    Scouting the Chargers

Two more blowout victories last week have Hillsdale gaining separation on the rest of the G-MAC, as the Chargers, along with fellow conference unbeaten Findlay, now have a two-game edge on the other 10 teams in the standings.

Despite a young squad with only one returning starter in 2023-24, the Hillsdale College men’s basketball team put together a solid campaign, winning 18 games and keeping a streak of seven straight top four G-MAC finishes intact.

Now, as the calendar turns from the 2024-25 season, last year’s young squad at Hillsdale becomes one of the most veteran teams in the G-MAC, and a serious contender for the G-MAC crown and a potential return trip to the NCAA Tournament after a year’s absence.

Entering this winter, the Chargers go from returning only one starter to returning four of five starters, and 11 of 13 players that appeared in at least one game in the 2023-24 season. Leading the way is senior forward Joe Reuter, a two-time All-G-MAC selection who’s entering his third year as a starter and one of just three first-team All-G-MAC players from a year ago who are back for the 2024-25 season.

Reuter led Hillsdale in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocks last season and should be one of the top players in the conference. He’ll be flanked by two more returning double-digit scorers in guards Charles Woodhams, a fifth-year senior, and Ashton Janowski, a junior. Both players came into their own last season as starters and scoring threats and give Hillsdale great toughness and continuity up front.

An area where the Chargers are hoping for major improvement is in the paint. Starting center CJ Yarian returns after a solid first season on the court for Hillsdale, while fellow sophomores Caleb Glaser and Garrett Bolte gained great experience off the bench and will look to continue growing as sophomores. The unit will get a big boost from a healthy Eric Radisevic, who contributed last year but was limited for much of the season by injuries. Now entering 2024-25 fully recovered, Radisevic could make a big impact for the Chargers, who lacked offensive punch from the center position at points in 2023-24 and could jump to another level as a team with better production down low.

Two players who could see their role grow as Hillsdale looks to replace the graduated Samuel Vasiu are sharpshooting sophomore Mikey McCollum and junior point guard Cole McWhinnie, both of whom excelled in substitute roles in 2023-24 and who will compete for more minutes this season.

Additionally, don’t count out two players coming off their redshirt years this season. Guard Logan Beaston and post Connor Stonebraker are both skilled offensive players and have the talent to carve out roles of their own on an experienced squad, while further bolstering the Chargers’ depth.

Head coach Keven Bradley returns for his second season at the helm after a solid first season, and brings back assistant Evan Morrissey for a second year, while adding Michigan native Travis Schuba to the coaching staff for this campaign as well.

    Matchup History

    • A nearby school and arch-nemesis of Hillsdale’s since both teams’ days in the GLIAC, Findlay has been a difficult challenge for Hillsdale for years, with a 58-14 edge all-time in a series dating back to the 1984-85 season. That said, there’s been a shift since both teams joined the G-MAC in 2017, as six of Hillsdale’s 14 wins against the Oilers have come in that stretch, and the two programs are 5-5 against each other since 2019-20. That includes a split last year, with Findlay winning 73-69 at home and the Chargers taking an 82-65 victory in Hillsdale.

    Other Notes

    • The Chargers were picked to finish second in the G-MAC Preseason Poll released in late October, with four first place votes. Defending champion Kentucky Wesleyan was picked to repeat, while defending G-MAC Tournament champion Walsh was picked to finish third. Since joining the league in 2017-18, Hillsdale has never finished lower than third in the final standings. Currently, Hillsdale is second in the G-MAC standings, a game behind Findlay, their opponent this Saturday, and a game ahead of Kentucky Wesleyan.
    • Hillsdale remains in the national rankings in both the coaches and media polls this week, sitting at 24th in the nation in the coaches poll and receiving votes in the nation in the media poll after a 15-4 start. This is the ninth straight week the Chargers have been nationally ranked. Hillsdale is one of five teams in the Midwest Region ranked or receiving votes in the NABC Coaches Poll, including G-MAC foe Findlay (5th), Ferris St. (8th), Missouri S&T (9th), Lake Superior St. (14th).
    • Hillsdale returns four starters from last year’s squad, headlined by returning All-G-MAC honoree Joe Reuter. The senior forward is a third-year starter and a two-time All-Conference player who also was named G-MAC Freshman of the Year for the 2021-22 season. Along with high scoring guards Ashton Janowski and Charles Woodhams, Reuter has been a key piece for Hillsdale so far, averaging 12 points per game while ranking fifth in the G-MAC in rebounds per game (7.3), 10th in assists per game (3.1), eighth in blocked shots per game (0.8) third in steals per game (1.6) and sixth in free throw percentage (.803). Reuter also is working his way up the all-time lists statistically at Hillsdale, as his 1,242 career points rank 25th all time, and he surpassed the 500-rebound milestone earlier this season.
    • Charles Woodhams has been Hillsdale’s leading scorer in 2024-25, and a consistent source of production for the Chargers. He has double-figure scoring in 16 of Hillsdale’s 18 games, including a 26-point outing that proved critical in a win at Ashland on Jan. 2. His efficiency for a guard offensively has been off the charts, coming close to the 50-40-90 bar that represents the peak of shooting brilliance with 51.1% on field goals, 43.2% on 3-pointers, and 77.6% on free throws.
    • Sophomore Mikey McCollum has been a huge asset for the Chargers off the bench, keeping Hillsdale’s second unit humming at a high level offensively even without the starters on the floor. McCollum is averaging 11.9 points per game, third most on the team, thanks to 34 made 3-pointers and a strong performance at the foul line.  Freshman Logan Beaston has been prolific from deep as well, with a team-leading 36 made 3-pointers in his first collegiate campaign.
    • The Chargers are playing at a high level so far at both ends of the floor, averaging 77.6 points per game offensively, and ranking first in the G-MAC and ninth in the nation in scoring defense at 63.4 points per game. Hillsdale’s 14-points-per-game scoring margin on opponents currently ranks 13th in NCAA DII.
    • Hillsdale is known for its excellent 3-point defense, and last year’s team was the best the Chargers have had at it since the 3-point line was introduced. Teams shot just 29.3% from deep on Hillsdale last season, the lowest among G-MAC squads and in the top 10 nationally. So far, through 18 games, Hillsdale has gone even lower, conceding just 27.9% from beyond the arc, which ranks first in the G-MAC by a significant margin and fifth in NCAA DII so far.
    • Another facet of Hillsdale’s excellent defense is its ability to control the defensive glass. The Chargers concede a G-MAC best 29.4 rebounds per game to opponents, seventh fewest at the NCAA DII level. The Chargers are also among league leaders in blocked shots this year, averaging three per game with 11 of 13 players who’ve seen the court recording at least one block for the Chargers.
    • Hillsdale prioritizes taking care of the basketball and passing to set up quality shots, and that’s reflected in the team’s strong assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.53, the 19th best mark nationally. That emphasis has helped the Chargers become one of the more efficient offensive teams in conference play, ranking third in the G-MAC in field goal percentage (48.8%), third in 3-point percentage (37.1%), and third in free throw percentage (75.4%).

  • Zegna Fall 2025 Men’s Ready to Wear Runway, Fashion Show & Collection Review

Zegna’s message at the sprawling former fairgrounds space in Milan was razor-sharp clear. With the finest wool in the world in a glass display case at the entrance, huge screens showing numerous flocks of sheep, and the set reproducing verdant grass mounds, the focus was obvious.

Artistic director Alessandro Sartori called the collection “Vellus Aureum,” after a single wool fleece reached the world record in 2023 with a fineness of 9.4 microns. Sartori paid homage to this achievement, saying ahead of the show that, in 1963, founder Ermenegildo Zegna established the Wool Trophy Awards in Australia to support woolgrowers in their pursuit of the finest wool in the world.

Vellus Aureum refers to the mythical feat of Jason and the Argonauts and the quest for the Golden Fleece, and at Zegna this “stands for the pursuit of the extraordinary,” said Sartori, who worked with this jewel-in-the-crown yarn and with washed wools.

The founder was on the designer’s mind also in the shapes he chose for the generous proportions of the pants, which were high-waisted and beltless.

“To generate new classics, I worked on the attitude and spirit, the nonchalant way the garments are worn, which are quintessentially ‘Torinese’ in this collection, which is a particular way of being Italian,” he said, in a reference to Turin, the city in the Piedmont region that is around 60 miles away from Zegna’s headquarters.

This was reflected in the boxier and longer jackets, with lower, diagonally cut pockets and lower buttons, suggesting a more casual and  insouciant slant, and the deconstructed silhouettes, also in the rejuvenated double-breasted suits.

There were several macro patterns and Donegal motifs that had a British feel, which was replicated on the lightest silk shirts.

Knee-length oversize coats with cashfur collars oozed luxury, and bomber jackets had lapels and elasticated waists. There were plenty of luscious knits, chunky cardigans and V-necked sweaters with leather collars. Worn tucked into the high-waisted pants, they looked super chic and modern.

Aligned with the trend in Milan, suits were also shown in corduroy and cashmere cotton and there were washed Oxford pants worn under Zegna’s signature Il Conte jacket, which was introduced here in shearling and in Oasi Cashmere jersey as a vest.

Sartori has a painter’s eye when it comes to the color palette, which didn’t disappoint for fall with shades of juniper, beaver, terracotta, mountain lily and berry red.

Actor John Turturro walked the show wearing a brown monochromatic pants-and-sweater combo under a roomy coat with a furry collar bringing the point home: Sartori evolved the brand’s aesthetic with a wearable, beautiful collection that worked across generations.

Zegna Fall 2025 Men’s Ready to Wear Runway, Fashion Show & Collection Review

The Zegna Fall 2025 Men’s Ready to Wear collection made its debut on the runway in a spectacular fashion show that left fashion enthusiasts in awe. The collection featured a mix of classic tailoring and contemporary silhouettes, showcasing the brand’s commitment to innovation and quality craftsmanship.

The runway was filled with a mix of earthy tones and rich textures, with pieces ranging from sleek suits and tailored separates to cozy knitwear and statement outerwear. The collection also featured a range of accessories, including leather bags, scarves, and hats, adding a touch of luxury to each look.

One standout piece from the collection was a camel-colored wool coat with oversized lapels and a belted waist, perfect for adding a touch of sophistication to any outfit. • Preview: Ducks Back on Home Ice, Ready for Rematch vs. Panthers

“[The last few games of the road trip] were close games, and it is just unfortunate we couldn’t score,” Ducka captain Radko Gudas said. “It was hard mentally, but the guys were battling to the end. We have some things to work on, score some more goals too…We don’t necessarily feel good about ourselves, but we feel good about our effort.”

Added Cronin, “I’ve liked the way we’ve played. We’re playing hard. We’re just coming up empty in some of the games. We’re playing well but the puck is not going in.”

The Ducks return home now without the services of defensively-minded centerman Isac Lundestrom, who was injured Saturday by a knee-on-knee check from Florida’s Sam Reinhart behind the net. Lundestrom did not return to the game and his recovery timeline is yet to be announced. Reinhart, who leads the Panthers with 27 goals and 51 points on the season, was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for the hit, but was not subject to further discipline and will play tonight for Florida.

But while Lundestrom exits the lineup, it could be one in, one out for the Ducks up front with Trevor Zegras seemingly nearing his return. Zegras, out of action since tearing his meniscus in early December, skated with the team Monday morning at Great Park Ice on a line with Leo Carlsson and Alex Killorn.

Zegras would be a welcome addition to a struggling Ducks power play, which hasn’t scored in the last six games.

The Anaheim Ducks are set to hit the ice at the Honda Center for a highly anticipated rematch against the Florida Panthers. After a tough loss on the road, the Ducks are eager to defend their home ice and come out on top this time around.

Both teams are hungry for a win, making this game a must-watch for hockey fans. The Ducks will be looking to capitalize on their home-ice advantage and showcase their skills in front of their loyal fans.

The Panthers, on the other hand, will be looking to continue their winning streak and secure another victory on the road. With both teams fighting for a crucial two points in the standings, this game is sure to be intense and action-packed.

Be sure to tune in and catch all the excitement as the Ducks and Panthers face off in what is sure to be a thrilling rematch. Let’s go Ducks! #AnaheimDucks #FloridaPanthers #NHL #HockeyIsBack

  • To avert trade war, India ready to repatriate its 18,000 illegal migrants from the US: Report

As the new US administration is preparing for a crackdown on illegal migration after Donald Trump’s second term began on Monday, India is set to take back its citizens residing illegally in America, according to a report by the news agency Bloomberg.

The report said that India is working behind the scenes to appease the Trump administration to avoid a trade war with the US.

“The two countries have together identified some 18,000 illegal Indian migrants in the US to be sent back home,” Bloomberg reported citing people familiar with the matter.

The numbers could be much higher, as it is unclear how many illegal Indian migrants live in the US.

A report published last year by the US Department of Homeland Security estimated some 220,000 unauthorized Indian immigrants resided in the US as of 2022.

“Any slack in taking back illegal US migrants could also adversely affect India’s labour and mobility agreements with other countries,” Bloomberg reported.

Within hours after taking oath as 47th US President on Monday, Trump pushed to end birthright citizenship and mobilize troops on the US-Mexico border.

India also hopes that the Trump administration will protect legal immigration channels used by its citizens to enter the US, in particular student visas and the H-1B program for skilled workers.

According to official data, Indians accounted for almost three-fourths of the 386,000 H-1B visas granted in 2023.

“As part of India-US cooperation on migration and mobility, both sides are engaged in a process to deter illegal migration. This is being done to create more avenues for legal migration from India to the US,” said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, as per the Bloomberg report.

“The latest deportation of Indian nationals from the US by a chartered flight is a result of this cooperation,” he added, referring to an October repatriation action.

President Trump on Monday signalled plans to impose previously threatened tariffs of as much as 25% on Mexico and Canada by February 1, reiterating his contention that America’s closest neighbours and largest trading partners are letting undocumented migrants and drugs flood into the US.

“We’re thinking in terms of 25% on Mexico and Canada because they’re allowing vast numbers of people” across the border, Trump said.

In a bid to avoid a potential trade war with the United States, India has reportedly agreed to repatriate around 18,000 of its citizens who are currently living in the US illegally. The move comes after the Trump administration threatened to impose tariffs on Indian goods if the country did not take action to address the issue of illegal immigration.

According to reports, the Indian government has been in talks with US officials to facilitate the return of these migrants, many of whom are said to be living in the country without proper documentation. While the exact details of the repatriation process have not been disclosed, it is believed that the two countries are working towards a mutually agreeable solution.

The decision to repatriate the illegal migrants is seen as a strategic move by India to de-escalate tensions with the US and prevent any potential trade disruptions. It is also a reflection of the growing importance of the bilateral relationship between the two countries, which have been working to strengthen their economic and strategic ties in recent years.

As the situation continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the repatriation process will unfold and what impact it will have on the broader relationship between India and the US. However, the willingness of both countries to engage in dialogue and find a solution to the issue of illegal migration is a positive sign that they are committed to resolving their differences through diplomatic means.
