Sigourney Weaver was “delighted” to join the Star Wars franchise but says Grogu was the whole reason she signed on for The Mandalorian & Grogu: “He’s a little badass”
Sigourney Weaver says she never really thought about joining the Star Wars franchise, but when she was offered a role in the upcoming movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, there was one teeny tiny thing that made her sign on: Baby Yoda.
“I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie,” Weaver tells GamesRadar+. “And he’s a little badass too. It’s going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he’s grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series.”
As Weaver did not appear in The Mandalorian series, we still don’t know for sure who her character is, although it has been reported that Weaver is playing a New Republic Colonel Bishop in the film. When asked for more on her mysterious role, Weaver replies, “I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority. And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens.”
With so much experience working on big sci-fi franchises like Alien and Avatar, it is surprising that Weaver didn’t join the galaxy far, far away sooner. “I admire [Star Wars], but I don’t sit around wishing I was in another franchise, because I’ve been so lucky to be in some wonderful ones,” Weaver adds. “But at the time, when I was offered it, I was delighted. I’m a great fan of John Favreau. I was already a great fan of The Mandalorian.”
Directed and written by Jon Favreau, the movie welcomes back Pedro Pascal as bounty hunter Din Djarin who embarks on an exciting new adventure with his apprentice Grogu. The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theatres on May 2026.
But before Weaver makes her big Star Wars debut, the Ghostbusters actor stars in Scott Derrickson’s genre-bending horror slash romance movie The Gorge. The movie follows two highly-trained operatives (Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy) as they are appointed to guard opposite watchtowers overlooking a misty and mysterious gorge, “protecting the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within,” reads the synopsis from Apple TV Plus.

Jesse stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week to talk about the movie, but one anecdote he shared about his vacation habits…or lack thereof…really caught people’s attention.

While discussing travel habits, Jimmy asked Jesse if he goes on vacations, which prompted the actor to say, “I don’t like vacations.”
Of course, he explained why. “I feel too guilty to go on a vacation. I have a very good life,” he said, noting that working as a film actor has him feeling “lucky” since he regularly travels for work.
As a result, he isn’t prone to laid-back vacations. “I can’t do that because I’m riddled with guilt,” he said.
He noted his vacation habits are more in line with that of his and Kieran’s A Real Pain characters who traveled to Poland for a Holocaust tour. “Those are the travels I do,” he said, using his last two vacations as an example. One was to a concentration camp in Austria, and the other was with his family to Timisoara, Romania, which is where the 1989 Communist revolutions began.

“That’s the only time I could go on vacation and not hate myself,” he said of the Romanian trip.
Jesse later admitted he hasn’t told his son about Disney World. “I went to Disneyland during his lifetime without him,” he said. “I was doing something in Shanghai, and they took me to Shanghai Disney. I told him about it and he said, ‘It sounded interesting, but when are we going back to Rwanda?’”
The interview moment went viral on the late-night show’s TikTok page, garnering nearly 2 million views. In the comments, people were amused by Jesse’s self-deprecating humor about his stress.
“He is the personification of anxiety ,” one person wrote.

Someone even noted he should’ve voiced Anxiety in Inside Out 2, which would have been genius casting.

Austin Reaves has become a key part of the Lakers set-up under JJ Redick and is putting in some starring performances this season.
AR15 is grateful for his opportunity at the Lakers and he is thriving under Redick’s mentorship where he is averaging 18-4-6, his best in his NBA career so far.
The star, who went undrafted, is also a big supporter of his teammates and has explained how he is looking to help current rookie Dalton Knecht.
Reaves spoke openly about his relationship with Redick in which he feels the pair can be open with one another.
He said: “He [Redick] can say anything to me. If it’s the middle of the game he can sit there and cuss me out if he wants as I know it’s coming from a good place as I’ve spent so much time with him on a human level.
“He’s told me multiple times if there’s a situation where I need to cuss him out he said ‘Go ahead, I’m not going to hold anything against you, we’re both competitors’ so that was the main thing, we can always be honest with each other.”
Redick will now be looking to build on his 27-19 start with the Lakers, he might even be preparing to welcome a new face to the side.

Shohei Ohtani return to pitching won’t be stopped by Dodgers additions for one reason
The Los Angeles Dodgers ran the gauntlet and won the World Series in 2024, all with Shohei Ohtani relegated to exclusively the DH role. The $700 million man, recovering from his second major elbow surgery, was therefore a “position player” by default.
Now, with Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki on their way and a revamped bullpen in tow, some were wondering if Ohtani might transition to the DH role full-time and forgo his two-way status. The 30-year-old appeared to benefit from his laser focus on hitting, putting together his best individual campaign to date as the leadoff hitter in baseball’s least forgiving lineup.
Ohtani slashed .310/.390/.646 with 54 home runs and 130 RBI on his way to a third MVP award. He also stole 59 bases, just to rub it in. The Dodgers’ offense was an unrivaled buzzsaw, with Ohtani dominating in front of the protective blanket provided by Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.
That said, the Dodgers are going to pitch Ohtani in 2025 — and the reasons extend beyond his well-documented utility on the mound.

Sure, Ohtani is a great pitcher at full strength, but there is understandable trepidation about pushing him too hard after another elbow surgery. The Dodgers can also field a more-than-competent five-man rotation without Ohtani. Snell, Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, maybe even Clayton Kershaw? Most teams would kill for such a deep and accomplished group.
Why risk it then? Well, one, because Ohtani is as good as anybody on the mound when he’s humming. And two, because the Dodgers will benefit from the roster flexibility inherent to Ohtani as a “two-way” player.
Ken Rosenthal explained it around the 19:49 mark of the latest Foul Territory episode.
Once Ohtani pitches 20 innings and logs at least 20 games with at least three at-bats — a milestone he should clear fairly early in the season — he can officially be logged as a two-way player on the Dodgers roster. That effectively allows Los Angeles to roster 14 pitchers, one more than the standard limit of 13 on an MLB roster.
That is an incredible advantage only the Dodgers will receive, on top of the myriad other perks inherent to being baseball’s biggest spender. Few assets are more valuable to a contender than pitching depth. Los Angeles has already shelled out top dollar not only to bolster its starting rotation, but to equip its bullpen.
By designating Ohtani as a two-way player, the Dodgers will be able to roster 13 pitchers in addition to Ohtani. That helps insure against injuries and gives Los Angeles a leg up on the competition not only for the regular season, but in the playoffs as well.
Ohtani made 23 starts on the mound in his final season with the Angels, posting a 3.14 ERA and 167 strikeouts across 132.0 innings. That alone is enough to convince folks that Ohtani can (and should) pitch. That it also boosts LA’s depth is the cherry on top of a gluttonous, borderline unfair sundae.

Elon Musk is not convinced with all the claims and ‘noise’ about China’s AI startup DeepSeek’s claims. To add context: US chip-maker Nvidia saw its market cap get wiped by over $500 billion on Monday, January 27, after the emergence of a low-cost Chinese generative AI model that could threaten US dominance in the fast-growing industry. The AI chatbot developed by DeepSeek has apparently shown the ability to match the capacity of US AI pace-setters for a fraction of the investments made by American companies.
Responding to all the hype and chatter on the same, Elon Musk suggested that DeepSeek may possess around 50,000 Nvidia Hopper GPUs.This is opposed to the 10,000 A100s that DeepSeek claims to have. Musk shared his opinion in reply to recent comments by Alexandr Wang, the billionaire CEO of Scale AI, who also stated that DeepSeek likely has about 50,000 NVIDIA H100s.
Musk and Wang both believe that DeepSeek is unable to disclose the true number of GPUs due to US export controls currently in place. Speaking to media on US-China AI Arms race, Wang said that DeepSeek has about 50,000 NVIDIA H100s that they can’t talk about because of the US export controls that are in place. The interview has been shared on Twitter by a user named Chubby. Responding to Wang’s interview clip; Elon Musk wrote: “Obviously”, affirming his agreement with Wang’s observation.In response to another post, Elon Musk called it ‘DeeperSeek’.
Musk also responded to a post from Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, who had written: “Deepseek is now #1 on the AppStore, surpassing ChatGPT—no NVIDIA supercomputers or $100M needed. The real treasure of AI isn’t the UI or the model—they’ve become commodities. The true value lies in data and metadata, the oxygen fueling AI’s potential. The future’s fortune? It’s in our data. The real reason why John Cena has been off WWE TV ahead of Royal Rumble 2025 has now been revealed.
With John Cena’s year-long retirement tour commencing on the January 6 Raw on Netflix premiere, many fans were under the impression that Cena would be regularly appearing on WWE TV during his final run.
This hasn’t been the case so far, despite Cena previously confirming that he will be competing in a Royal Rumble match for the last time on February 1.
Per Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Cena has been in Budapest, Hungary filming for the upcoming Matchbox movie.
The movie – which Cena was reported to be attached to in September 2024, – will be inspired by the toy car brand of the same name.
The live-action film is under the Skydance, Apple and Mattel Films umbrella. Mattel Films were the studio behind the successful Barbie movie from 2023.
‘Matchbox’ will be produced by Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger as well as Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films.

Wicked director Jon M Chu with cast members Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande via Associated Press Last year’s hit film adaptation of Wicked was full of cameos for fans of the original stage show – but there was one that never actually made it to the big screen.
After dominating the box office in 2024, the movie musical recently had its home release, one iteration of which features commentary from director Jon M Chu.
During his commentary, Jon discloses that he was contacted by a certain heavyweight from the musical theatre world, who had a very specific cameo in mind before production got underway.
Referring to opening number No One Mourns The Wicked, Jon said (as reported by Gizmodo): “When that woman says, ‘Glinda, is it true you were her friend?’, I got many calls from Lin-Manuel Miranda.
“He might have publicly also tweeted that he wanted to be that voice and that person.”

“So, sorry, Lin,” Jon added.
Indeed, the Hamilton creator first made it clear that he wanted to cameo in Wicked way back in 2016, when Stephen Daldry was still attached to direct the film version of the Tony-winning musical.

Two of the stand-out cameos from Wicked came from Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who played the original Elphaba and Glinda on Broadway.
“It’s just so fun,” Jon said of Idina and Kristin’s unexpected appearances, explaining: “It was the middle of the night, and I think [for them] to see this giant set that we had built for a movie of a legacy that they built, these characters that they built from the ground up, was a beautiful thing for them to see.
“We were all, again, all in tears all the time. And then Idina gets to do her iconic war cry and same thing with Kristin, she gets to do her soprano. So fun.”
Part two of the story, titled Wicked For Good, is due to hit cinemas later this year.
