  • Leaked Memo Suggests a Top U.S. Agency Will No Longer Recognize Pride, MLK Day, and Holocaust Remembrance

Update 1/29/25 5 p.m. ET: In response to a request for comment, a spokesperson for the Defense Intelligence Agency told Them that the DIA is “working with the Department of Defense to fully implement all Executive Orders and Administration guidance in a timely manner.”

Original story 1/29/25: The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) is reportedly canceling all future LGBTQ+ Pride observances, along with a host of other significant events for marginalized communities, according to a leaked internal memo obtained by independent journalist Ken Klippenstein.

Klippenstein, a former reporter for The Intercept (and sometime Twitter prankster), posted the memo on social media Wednesday, claiming that an intelligence official had leaked a photo of it directly to him. According to the document, which appears to have been stamped January 28 and bears a letterhead with DIA and Department of Defense seals, the agency is putting an indefinite “pause” on at least 11 “Special Observances” scheduled annually between January and November.

That list includes the entirety of Pride Month, federally observed in June since 1999. Other canceled observances include Black History Month in February, Women’s History Month in March, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May, and Juneteenth on June 19. Women’s Equality Day on August 26, National Hispanic Heritage Month and Disability Employment Awareness Month in October, and National American Indian Heritage Month in November are also canceled, as well as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and any Holocaust Remembrance Days, according to the leaked memo.

    Bluesky content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Them attempted to contact the DIA’s Public Affairs office to confirm the leaked memo’s authenticity, but did not receive a reply at time of writing. The department forms the intelligence wing of the Department of Defense, and is the “primary manager and producer of foreign military intelligence” in the U.S. government, according to its website.

“DIA will pause all activities and events related to Special Emphasis Programs effective immediately and until further notice,” the memo reads. (“Special emphasis programs” are employment programs within the federal government that, as the name implies, place special emphasis on marginalized communities like people of color, disabled people, and LGBTQ+ people.) The DIA will also be pausing “Agency Resource Groups, Affinity Groups, and Employee Networking Groups, effective immediately” upon issuance of the memo.

Recently, a leaked memo from a top U.S. agency has caused shock and outrage as it suggests that the agency will no longer recognize important cultural and historical observances such as Pride Month, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Holocaust Remembrance Day.

This memo has sparked concern among many who see these observances as important symbols of diversity, equality, and remembrance of past atrocities. The decision to no longer recognize these observances raises questions about the agency’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and acknowledging the struggles and triumphs of marginalized communities.

The potential erasure of Pride Month, MLK Day, and Holocaust Remembrance Day from the agency’s calendar is a troubling development that highlights the ongoing challenges faced by marginalized communities in the U.S. It is imperative that we continue to fight for equality, justice, and remembrance of the past to ensure that we do not repeat the mistakes of history.

As this story continues to unfold, it is important for us to stand in solidarity with those who are affected by these potential changes and to advocate for the recognition and celebration of these important observances. We must continue to push for a more inclusive and equitable society where all voices are heard and all histories are remembered.

  • People Can’t Believe This TikToker Didn’t Recognize Willem Dafoe

Willem Dafoe may be a Hollywood mainstay, but even he’s not safe from getting pulled into a stranger’s TikTok shoot.

Content creator Feroz Zadran, who posts under the name @hikhann_, approached the “Nosferatu” actor for a man-on-the-street-style interview that went viral this week.

In the video, he pulls Dafoe off the New York City street to compliment his outfit and asks, “What do you do for a living?”

“I’m an actor,” replies the star, who is bundled up against the NYC chill in a brown leather jacket, scarf, knit cap and gloves.

Zadran, on TikTok, then asks Dafoe for his name and what he likes about his job.

“It’s always different. Nothing’s ever the same,” answers the ever-affable “Spider-Man” star, who has over 150 screen credits to his name.

Willem Dafoe discusses "Nosferatu" at a New York screening last month. A TikToker seemed to not recognize the star in a social media clip that went viral this week.

Pressed to share any “advice” for those trying to make it in the entertainment world, the four-time Oscar nominee demurs.

“I don’t give advice,” he says with a smile. “Everybody’s got to find their own way.”

In the comment section, fans found it hard to believe that Zadran didn’t recognize Dafoe and his distinctive look.

“Not knowing Willem Dafoe is a crime,” one viewer wrote.

“I hope this guy makes it. he seems like a humble fella,” another person joked.

While some wondered if the video was pre-planned, Dafoe’s polite but hurried disposition led others to conclude it was a spontaneous encounter.

“I thought its scripted but he looks really uncomfortable lmaooo,” someone posted.

“Bro just let him enjoy his walk,” shared another.

The “Platoon” actor previously talked about the moment he realized he was an especially recognizable celebrity during a December 2023 interview on NBC’s “Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist.”

When he once saw a “rough” looking bunch eyeing him on the subway, he feared something unsavory was about to happen — before things took a turn.

“They were looking kind of mean and they were looking at each other, and then I heard one say, ’Yeah, it’s gotta be him. Nobody looks like that motherfucker,” Dafoe recalled. “That’s when I knew.”

Recently, a TikToker shared a hilarious encounter they had with actor Willem Dafoe, where they had no idea who he was. The video quickly went viral, with many people expressing disbelief that someone could fail to recognize such a well-known actor.

In the video, the TikToker recounts how they struck up a conversation with a friendly older man at a coffee shop, only to later realize that it was actually Willem Dafoe. The TikToker admitted that they had only seen a few of Dafoe’s movies and didn’t immediately recognize him without his signature roles or makeup.

The comments on the video ranged from shock to amusement, with many people joking about how they would have reacted differently if they had been in the same situation. Some even shared their own stories of meeting celebrities and not realizing who they were until later.

Overall, the video serves as a reminder that even the most famous actors can go unrecognized in everyday situations, and that sometimes it’s the unexpected encounters that are the most memorable. So next time you’re out and about, keep an eye out for familiar faces – you never know who you might run into!

  • How to recognize EZDriveMass and E-Z Pass phishing and smishing scam

QUINCY – My turn to receive the latest fraudulent “smishing” scam arrived at 9:27 a.m. Sunday when a text message appeared on my iPhone.

It told me that I owed money for unpaid tolls on state highways. I do drive a lot, sometimes using toll roads, so I might have found it possibly credible but I’d been forewarned about this one.

A colleague, Scott Bowdridge, of Walpole, had warned me three days earlier. I was just a bit late on the apparent robo messaging circuit. This EZDriveMass scam has been especially active here since the start of January, according to digital coach Grace Buscher, of Quincy. It was first reported in Massachusetts last June by the state.

As technology advances, so do the tactics of scammers looking to steal your personal information. One common scam that has been on the rise is EZDriveMass and E-Z Pass phishing and smishing scams. These scams typically involve receiving emails or text messages that appear to be from EZDriveMass or E-Z Pass, asking you to verify your account information or make a payment.

To help you recognize and avoid falling victim to these scams, here are some tips:

    1. Check the sender: Always verify the sender’s email address or phone number. Scammers often use fake email addresses or phone numbers that may look similar to the official ones, but upon closer inspection, you can see the discrepancies.

    2. Look for spelling and grammatical errors: Scam emails and text messages often contain spelling and grammatical errors. If you notice these mistakes, it’s likely a scam.

    3. Avoid clicking on links: If you receive an email or text message asking you to click on a link to verify your account information or make a payment, do not click on it. Instead, go directly to the official EZDriveMass or E-Z Pass website to log in and check your account status.

    4. Be cautious with personal information: Legitimate organizations like EZDriveMass or E-Z Pass will never ask for your personal information, such as your social security number or credit card information, via email or text message. If you are unsure about a request for personal information, contact the organization directly to verify.

    5. Report suspicious activity: If you receive a suspicious email or text message claiming to be from EZDriveMass or E-Z Pass, report it to the organization and relevant authorities. This will help prevent others from falling victim to the scam.

By staying vigilant and following these tips, you can protect yourself from falling victim to EZDriveMass and E-Z Pass phishing and smishing scams. Remember, when in doubt, always verify the legitimacy of the communication before sharing any personal information.

  • Biden to recognize Hillary Clinton, Bono and more with Presidential Medal of Freedom

Biden to recognize Hillary Clinton, Bono and more with Presidential Medal of Freedom

    CNN
     —

President Joe Biden will award the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to 19 people Saturday, recognizing a broad swathe of luminaries across politics, culture and the arts, including former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, designer Ralph Lauren, soccer superstar Lionel Messi, U2 frontman Bono and philanthropist and megadonor George Soros.

The medal is presented to people “who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors,” according to a White House statement. Biden himself is a recipient, having been presented with the medal by then-President Barack Obama in the closing days of his administration.

“President Biden believes great leaders keep the faith, give everyone a fair shot, and put decency above all else,” the White House said in the statement. “These nineteen individuals are great leaders who have made America a better place. They are great leaders because they are good people who have made extraordinary contributions to their country and the world.”

Two prominent American political figures will be posthumously honored: former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and former Michigan Republican Gov. George Romney, the father of former Sen. Mitt Romney.

In remarks eulogizing Kennedy’s wife Ethel last year, Biden said he had “only two political heroes in my life: Dr. [Martin Luther King Jr.] and Bobby Kennedy,” while noting he’d decorated his Oval Office with a bust of Kennedy. The storied political family had made national headlines in recent months with the Kennedys’ second-eldest son, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., controversially chosen by President-elect Donald Trump to be the next Department of Health and Human Services secretary.

Biden has previously recognized a number of political allies with the award, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and South Carolina Congressman Jim Clyburn last year.

The president’s decision to honor Clinton caps off a long history of mutual admiration between the two Democratic leaders and comes after Bill and Hillary Clinton honored Biden with the Clinton Global Citizen Award in a surprise New York Ceremony last September. Accepting the award, an emotional Biden thanked the former secretary of state “for the way you have helped me, the way you’ve spoken up for me with such passion.”

“I can’t tell you, you can ask Jill, I – anyway, I love you. I love you,” Biden said.

The president will also recognize Soros, a liberal megadonor who the White House says “has supported organizations, and projects across the world that strengthen democracy, human rights, education, and social justice,” and famed Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, who hosted political fundraisers for the Biden campaign.

Lauren, a design industry titan, is also among the honorees Saturday. Lauren’s clothing has long been a favorite of the Biden family, including first lady Jill Biden, who wore a Ralph Lauren design on the cover of Vogue in August, and first granddaughter Naomi Biden, who wore a Ralph Lauren dress for her White House wedding in 2022.

Celebrity chef, humanitarian and outspoken Trump critic José Andrés will be recognized for his work with the World Central Kitchen, which the White House says “has revolutionized the way food aid reaches communities affected by natural disasters and conflict around the world.”

In entertainment, actors Michael J. Fox and Denzel Washington are slated to be honored, along with Messi and retired NBA player Earvin “Magic” Johnson. Washington was scheduled to be among those honored in 2022, but he had to pull out of the ceremony after testing positive for Covid-19.

Last year, musician and humanitarian Bono joined Jill Biden in her box at the State of the Union address, where he was recognized for his work fighting AIDS and building support for the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year. Bono and his U2 bandmates were also among the honorees for 2022’s Kennedy Center Honors ceremony. On Saturday, he’ll accept the Medal of Freedom.

In the field of science, Biden will recognize Planetary Society CEO and climate advocate Bill Nye and world-famous conservationist Jane Goodall. Nye has partnered with the administration in the past to further the Biden White House’s climate initiatives, recording a 2021 interview with Biden at the White House to push the president’s “Build Back Better” plan. A pared down version of the legislation eventually based as the Inflation Reduction Act after the initial bill failed to garner sufficient support in Congress.

Posthumous medals will be awarded to civil rights icon Fannie Lou Hamer and former Defense Secretary Ash Carter, while LGBT advocate Tim Gill, private equity leader David Rubenstein and American Film Institute and Kennedy Center Honors founder George Stevens Jr. round out the list.

President Joe Biden announced today that he will be awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to several notable individuals, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U2 frontman Bono. The Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor in the United States and is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to society.

In addition to Clinton and Bono, Biden will also be recognizing several other individuals for their achievements and contributions. Among them are civil rights activist Dolores Huerta, scientist and astronaut Mae Jemison, and musician Joni Mitchell.

The ceremony to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom will take place next month at the White House, where the recipients will be honored for their dedication and service to their respective fields. Biden stated that he is proud to recognize these individuals for their outstanding achievements and for their impact on society.

Stay tuned for more updates on this prestigious event as we celebrate the accomplishments of these remarkable individuals.

  • ‘Missing You’ features actors who appear in other Harlan Coben shows. Here’s where you might recognize them from.

‘Missing You’ features actors who appear in other Harlan Coben shows. Here’s where you might recognize them from.

    • “Missing You” is the latest adaptation of a book by Harlan Coben.

    • It follows detective Kat Donovan whose fiancé disappeared.

    • The series includes several actors from other Netflix shows based on Coben’s work.

The latest Harlan Coben Netflix thriller, “Missing You,” features a handful of actors from previous adaptations of the author’s mystery novels.

Rosalind Eleazar plays detective Kat Donovan, a woman whose fiancé, Josh Buchanan (Ashley Walters), disappeared without a trace eleven years ago.

When she spots his profile on a dating app it forces her to reexamine her life, including the suspicious circumstances surrounding her father’s death.

“Missing You” was released on Netflix exactly one year after the previous Coben series, “Fool Me Once,” starring Michelle Keegan, which was one of the streamer’s most-watched shows of the year.

The cast of the new series includes three actors who subscribers might recognize from previous Coben adaptations.

Richard Armitage plays Ellis Stagger in “Missing You” and previously appeared in “Stay Close,” “The Stranger,” and “Fool Me Once.”

A composite image of the same man dressed in four different outfits. On the far left, he has long black and gray hair and short stubble. He's wearing a black leather jacket with a gray hoodie and red flannel shirt underneath. In the middle left, he has swept-back brown hair and is running toward the camera. he's wearing a brown suede jacket and has a navy blue shirt on. There is a silver wedding ring on his left hand. On the middle right he has neat black and gray hair, and he's wearing a navy blue and white striped jumper. On the far right, he's got black and gray hair and a dark beard. He's wearing a blue nightgown with white piping. He's holding a blue phone up to his right ear.

Richard Armitage in “Stay Close,” “The Stranger,” “Fool Me Once,” and “Missing You.”Netflix

Richard Armitage plays a major role in “Missing You” as sergeant Ellis Stagger, Donovan’s police boss who is involved with the mystery surrounding her father’s death. The series marks Armitage’s fourth appearance in a Coben Netflix series.

In 2020 he played Adam Price, a father of two whose wife goes missing shortly after a mysterious stranger (Hannah John-Kamen) approaches him out of the blue and tells him a secret.

Then, in 2021, he played paparazzi photographer Ray Levine who is one of the major suspects in the murder of Stewart Green (Rod Hunt) in a cold case that resurfaces in the present day.

And in 2024, he played Joe Burkett in “Fool Me Once,” Maya Stern’s (Michelle Keegan) dead husband who mysteriously appears on a nanny cam in their home.

James Nesbitt plays Calligan and also appeared in “Stay Close”

A composite image of a man in two outfits. On the left he is standing up and has gray hair, dark eye brows, and is wearing a dark blue jacket with a gray jumper, blue shirt and gray tie on underneath. On the right, he's sitting in a chair got gray hair and is wearing a gray pinstripe suit with a blue shirt. He's holding a black phone to his right ear.

James Nesbitt in “Stay Close” and “Missing You.”Netflix

Irish actor James Nesbitt plays Calligan, a nefarious gangster, in “Missing You” and it’s insinuated that he had something to do with the death of Donovan’s father.

He has a pretty murky backstory, as one police officer tells Donovan that Calligan almost murdered his classmate with a claw hammer when he was at school.

Nesbitt previously starred in “Stay Close” with Armitage and played detective Michael Broome, the police officer who investigates the disappearance of Del Flynn (Ross Boatman), a businessman who vanished exactly 17 years after Green went missing.

As is the case in all good Coben TV shows, he realizes he has a surprisingly personal connection to the case.

Marc Warren plays Monte Leburn and appeared in “Safe”

A composite image of the same man. On the left, he's standing in a city street, he has short dark hair and stubble, he's wearing a gray striped hoodie with a black T-shirt. On the right, he has a buzz cut and short stubble. He is propped up against a white pillow and he's wearing a gray jumper.

    Marc Warren played Monte Leburn.Netflix

Rounding out the Coben alumni is Marc Warren, who plays Monte Leburn, the hitman who confessed to killing Donovan’s father — despite having no reason to do so.

His actions confuse Donovan as she tires to find the truth truth about his death.

Audiences might recognize Warren from “Safe,” in which he played Dr. Pete Mayfield, the best friend of Tom Delaney (Michael C. Hall), a widower. Delaney asks Mayfield for help when his daughter, Jenny (Amy-Leigh Hickman), goes missing after a house party.

    1. Michael C. Hall – You may recognize him as the star of the hit show "Dexter," where he plays the titular character, a forensic blood spatter analyst by day and a vigilante serial killer by night.
    2. Jennifer Carpenter – Also from "Dexter," Carpenter plays Debra Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive sister and a detective in the Miami Metro Police Department.
    3. Sissy Spacek – Known for her roles in films like "Carrie" and "Coal Miner’s Daughter," Spacek also appeared in the Harlan Coben series "The Sinner" as Vera Walker.
    4. Jessica Biel – Another actress from "The Sinner," Biel starred in the first season as Cora Tannetti, a young mother who commits a shocking act of violence but can’t remember why.
    5. Michael Esper – Esper appeared in the Harlan Coben series "Safe" as Josh Mason, a friend of the main character Tom Delaney who becomes entangled in a web of secrets and lies.

These talented actors have all worked on projects with Harlan Coben before, and their performances in "Missing You" are sure to captivate audiences once again.

Ant Anstead’s Fans Say They Recognize Renée Zellweger’s Laugh in His Latest Post

Ant Anstead is offering an inside look at how he spent Christmas day!

The British TV host, 45, shared a series of photos on Instagram that showed his 5-year-old son Hudson, whom he shares with ex-wife Christina Haack (formerly Hall), playing with his new plasma ball lamp that Santa seemingly brought him on Christmas morning.

In the last slide of the Dec. 28 post, a video shows Hudson asking his dad to “look” at how his new toy works as he brings his face up close to the lamp. The silly demonstration prompts Anstead and someone else in the background to burst out laughing.

“Christmas Day MAGIC X,” Anstead captioned the post.

Fans were quick to point out who they thought the mystery laugher was, noting in the comments that it had to be Anstead’s girlfriend of more than three years, Bridget Jones star Renée Zellweger.

“I can hear Renée’s laugh!” one person commented. “Totally Renée,” another agreed.

A different user wrote, “That is 100% Renée’s laugh. It’s distinctive and perfect.”

“Good to hear bonus mommy laughing,” read another comment.

This would be the fourth year in a row that the lovebirds are spending the most wonderful time of the year together.

In December 2023, Anstead confirmed he enjoyed Christmas with his girlfriend and his older children in a photo shared to his Instagram Stories. In the snap, he revealed Zellweger prepared all of the desserts for Christmas dinner while his kids, Amelie, 21, and Archie, 18, helped out with the festive roast.

In 2022, eagle-eyed fans spotted Zellweger in the background of one of Anstead’s Instagram posts, confirming the pair spent the holidays in his native England that year.

His followers were able to point out the actress, who was wearing her favorite orange University of Texas baseball hat and green cargo pants, in the background of a photo Anstead snapped of Hudson.

“Renée meeting the family,” one user commented on the post at the time.

A year prior, in 2021, Anstead confirmed he and his new girlfriend at the time had plans to spend the holidays together despite having extremely busy schedules while speaking to Entertainment Tonight.

Anstead and Zellweger first started dating in 2021 after they met on the set of Anstead’s Discovery+ show Celebrity IOU: Joyride in June that year.

In April 2023, a source told PEOPLE that the pair hit a major milestone in their relationship and were moving in together after finding a home “they both love” in Orange County, Calif.

A year later, in April 2024, another insider said that Anstead was temporarily relocating to his native England to be close to Zellweger while she filmed the fourth installment of the Bridget Jones franchise, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

While the couple tends to keep their love life mostly private, Anstead recently opened up about how “normal” their more than three-year romance is. Asked on a U.K. talk show what it’s like to be in a relationship that is “so minutely gazed upon by total strangers,” Anstead shrugged it off.

“I don’t give it any time,” the former Wheeler Dealers host said. “I mean, ultimately, it is microscopically examined, I’m sure, but I don’t really think about that. She’s so incredibly normal and I often forget that she’s famous.”

Ant Anstead, the British television presenter and motor specialist, recently shared a video on his Instagram that has some fans claiming they recognize a familiar laugh in the background – that of actress Renée Zellweger.

In the video, Anstead can be seen working on a car in his garage while someone off-camera can be heard laughing. Some fans were quick to point out that the laugh sounded like Zellweger’s, sparking speculation about a possible collaboration or friendship between the two celebrities.

While neither Anstead nor Zellweger have confirmed or denied the rumors, fans have been buzzing about the possibility of the two stars being connected in some way. Whether it’s just a friendly cameo in Anstead’s video or something more, fans are excited to see what the future holds for these two talented individuals.

Stay tuned for more updates on this potential celebrity connection!
