After month-long injury absence, Tari Eason rejoins Rockets’ rotation
For the first time in more than a month, reserve forward Tari Eason played for the Houston Rockets in Thursday’s road game versus the Sacramento Kings. In pregame comments, head coach Ime Udoka indicated that Eason would initially be limited to about 20 to 25 minutes of playing time.
“He felt better over the last few days,” Udoka said pregame.
Playing on night two of a road back-to-back, the Rockets were without veteran guard Fred VanVleet (personal reasons) against the Kings. With that in mind, Eason’s return came at a useful time.
Prior to Thursday, Eason’s last on-court appearance came on Dec. 14. The 2022 first-round draft pick then missed 13 consecutive games, with the team citing soreness in the same area of his lower left leg that required surgery last March.
The Rockets (27-12) insisted that the pain in Eason’s leg was subsiding, but they wanted it to go away entirely before allowing him to play — especially with the somewhat reduced stakes of midseason games and the team already winning at a high clip. In comments to reporters, Udoka suggested on multiple occasions that the thought process could perhaps be different, if the games were later in the season or in the playoffs (and thus of greater individual importance).
Earlier this month, Udoka said imaging tests on Eason’s leg were already done in December, and those did not appear to show a similar situation to the issue last season (which ultimately led to season ending surgery).
This season, Eason is averaging 11.3 points (47.5% FG, 31.5% on 3-pointers), 6.3 rebounds, and 1.9 steals in 22.8 minutes per game. A two-way force when healthy, the LSU product is often dynamic on the defensive end of the court — where Houston ranks No. 3 in the NBA — and in transition.
Ime Udoka said Tari Eason will be on a 20-25 minute restriction. “He felt better over the last few days… Felt good going into yesterday” but added that he was not going to play back to back, so tonight is the night. https://t.co/5Ss5LKr5QB

More: Ten-plus games later, Rockets still awaiting Tari Eason’s injury return
This article originally appeared on Rockets Wire: After month-long injury absence, Tari Eason rejoins Rockets’ rotation
After month-long injury absence, Tari Eason rejoins Rockets’ rotationThe Houston Rockets received some good news today as forward Tari Eason has been cleared to return to the team after missing the past month with a nagging injury. Eason, who has been a key contributor for the Rockets this season, will provide a much-needed boost to the team as they continue to push for a playoff spot.
Eason had been sidelined with a knee injury that had been bothering him for several weeks. The team took a cautious approach with his recovery, making sure he was fully healed before allowing him to return to action. Now that he is back in the lineup, the Rockets are hoping that Eason can pick up right where he left off and help lead the team to victory.
In his absence, the Rockets struggled to find consistency on both ends of the court. Eason’s return should help stabilize the team and give them a much-needed spark as they enter the final stretch of the season.
Fans are excited to see Eason back on the court and are hopeful that his presence will help propel the Rockets to success in the upcoming games. Welcome back, Tari Eason!

After missing two games due to an illness and three due to return-to-competition reconditioning, Heat forward Jimmy Butler rejoined the team on Tuesday, participating in practice and telling reporters that he’ll play in Wednesday’s game vs. New Orleans.
As Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald relays, Butler also spoke to the media about last week’s ESPN report suggesting that he prefers to be traded out of Miami. Heat president Pat Riley announced a day after that report that the club wouldn’t be trading its star forward.
“Does it matter?” Butler said today when asked if he prefers a trade. “I honestly do not care about getting traded, where I’m supposed to go, who’s saying what…. All of that is out of my control anyway.”
Reporters in Miami posed a series of questions related to Butler’s future, including whether he’d be content if he’s not traded this season, whether it’s in his and the Heat’s best interests to have an amicable divorce in the summer of 2025, and whether he wants to be in Miami. In each case, he began his answer by saying, “I don’t know.”
The 35-year-old also said he’s “happy” and “in a good space,” adding that he’ll defer to Riley on roster decisions.
“Right now, I’m here and I’m to make the most of it,” Butler said. “I am going to compete and I’m going to win. It’s a lot of talk, a lot of noise, which I’m cool with. It doesn’t bother me at all. I love that. I thrive at it. It keeps you all wondering, the world wondering. It’s good to be talked about. Even better to be wanted.”
Asked if he and/or his agent have talked to Riley, Butler offered no comment, simply replying, “Next.”
While Butler’s remarks suggest he doesn’t intend to take the scorched-earth route he did six years ago in Minnesota to force a trade, he also passed on the opportunity to put the issue to bed, offering vague responses and not outright denying that he prefers a trade. Despite Riley’s statement last Thursday about not trading Butler, this still looks like a situation worth keeping an eye on as the February 6 trade deadline nears.
In addition to addressing the trade rumors, Butler also spoke about his five-game absence, explaining that he was “pretty messed up” as a result of a bad stomach illness, but that he’s feeling better now and looking forward to getting back on the court. It’s possible Miami will be down a player or two as a result of Sunday’s altercation vs. the Rockets – the NBA has yet to announce suspensions and/or fines – so Butler’s return should be a welcome one.
After weeks of speculation and trade rumors swirling around Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler, the All-Star forward has officially rejoined the team and put an end to the speculation. In a press conference held earlier today, Butler addressed the trade rumors head-on, stating that he is fully committed to the Heat and is focused on helping the team succeed this season. “I love this organization, my teammates, and the city of Miami,” Butler said. “I am here to win and will do whatever it takes to bring a championship to this team.”
Butler’s return to the Heat comes after reports surfaced that he had been unhappy with the team’s performance and was seeking a trade. However, Butler made it clear that he is ready to put all of that behind him and focus on the task at hand.
Heat fans can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their star player is back in action and ready to lead the team to victory. With Butler back in the lineup, the Heat are sure to be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming games.
