Jack Nicholson’s daughter Lorraine on his relationship with Lara Flynn Boyle
Jack Nicholson’s daughter, Lorraine Nicholson, had her own love story with his ex Lara Flynn Boyle.
Lorraine, 34, wrote an essay for Vanity Fair Friday where she looked back on the special bond she created with Boyle, 54, when the “Twin Peaks” actress dated Jack, 87, from 1999 to 2004.

Protect each other,” Lorraine wrote. “And when the time comes for boys to enter the picture — and a best friend’s attention is split between them and another — it is their first great heartbreak.
“When I was nine, my best friend was 30-year-old ingenue Lara Flynn Boyle,” Lorraine added.

Lorraine explained that at the time, there was “spectacle” over Jack and Boyle’s relationship because they were 33 years apart in age. But according to Lorraine, “no one could see they were actually falling in love.”

“She came down the outdoor staircase to join us by the pool,” Lorraine recalled of meeting Boyle. “I remember the sun reflecting on the water, the sound of wind chimes in the trees. Most importantly, I remember what Lara wore — a thong bathing suit with flames licking up the crotch. We didn’t have to know she had been nominated for an Emmy that year for her work on ‘The Practice’ for my brother and I to know we were in the presence of a powerful person.”

“With extrasensory intuition, she sensed I was a self-harmer and told me stories about the time she had to wear knee socks to hide her scratched-up shins,” Lorraine shared, adding that Boyle “made me feel like my pain mattered.”

She told all these stories with a cigarette and a smile, because she was a survivor.”

“Suddenly, we were doing things we had never done before,” Lorraine remembered. “In Aspen, we went whitewater rafting down the Colorado River. In one particularly traitorous game of Uno, my brother and I kamakazied ourselves so that while we wouldn’t win, my father wouldn’t either. After he stormed out of the room, followed by a trail of very Nicholson obscenities, it was Lara who put a stop to his sulking and lured him back upstairs.”

Like in the ‘Mary Poppins’ films, I understand why it was Lara who sent the other applicants blowing ass-over-heels down the street.”
Lorraine called Jack and Boyle’s relationship “a point of no return” because Boyle “went from being a woman on the verge of stardom — a person validated for her work — to a mere celebrity.”
Jack and Boyle split in 2004 — and Lorraine said she still has “no clue why.”

“I’d known my father’s relationship with Lara couldn’t last forever, and yet when I was with her, I had no clue what I would do without her,” she said.
At the end of her essay, Lorraine wrote, “For this article, I asked Lara if I could see her for the first time in more than 20 years to talk about the time we shared. She declined.”

She said the exes still keep in touch, but “we’re not hanging out.”
“The world of Jack is always here,” said Boyle. “There’s no retiring for the world of Jack. Never.”

That’s more from a behind-the-scenes perspective, but I also wonder in my own mind sometimes just kind of laying there looking up thinking maybe he hates me, absolutely hates me, and is planning some devious way to get back at me for the things that took place at WrestleMania 40, which he shouldn’t. I mean, the night before I won it all, he actually has a win over me. But I can tell you that I know people don’t love when the curtain gets pulled back too much. So, yeah, but all that to say, I don’t know where we stand again. The dude could run up on me right now and pop me in the ear and we’d be right back in it, but I don’t know where we stand now. It’ll always be in question, but he’s certainly been helpful to me as champion.”
On possibilities for himself for John Cena’s “The Last Time Is Now” WWE retirement tour: “One thing that’s been on my mind, I think when he announced he was retiring, is a lot of guys jumped to the line of, I want to wrestle John. A lot of guys jumped to the, ‘I want to do something with John.’ I’m probably the one who didn’t hold his hand up and that’s simply because John is everything to me and and there’s been so many guys I’m a product of who i took a little something from. The most that I’ve taken from anybody ever would be from John, and that was from driving those few years of them seeing how he did his interactions with fans, how he would do main events, to see how he did the quarterback , the leader all those things. So when i hear this is it, It’s still not fully for me. I don’t love this is it and I know it is. I know he means it when he says it. But I want to watch like a fan. I almost dread the idea of what that would look like. Because when you’re up against John now, you’re tasked to beat John Cena in his final run and that’s why I’m not raising my hand to be in that spot.”

While the tweet went viral, Lil Yachty replied with a post, questioning why everyone was trying to link him with Mariah. He further stated:

A source told People that Baumgartner, 50, is officially engaged to financier Josh Connor, who proposed to her on Sunday, January 26 during “a simple intimate dinner for two in Santa Barbara” that grew much bigger than what the mother of three expected. “It was about to rain, so almost no one else was on the beach when Josh got down on one knee,” the source told the outlet.
The couple were apparently friends before they became involved romantically, and have been spotted together several times, notably Christmas shopping in New York during December 2024.

Katy Perry Shares No. 1 Relationship Rule with Orlando Bloom (Exclusive)
Between their breakneck schedules, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have the secret to maintaining a strong relationship down to a science.
Speaking with PEOPLE ahead of her Lifetimes Tour, the pop star opened up about navigating her personal life — including her relationship with Bloom — while on the road.
“I’ve talked a lot about love languages and how important they are in learning your partner’s love language, and even if it isn’t your love language, tapping into that for them,” Perry, 40, tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Over time, Perry discovered that “acts of service” and “words of affirmation” are her love languages, she says.

“Verbal support is really important, I think, for both of us,” she adds.
Perry announced her Lifetimes Tour, in support of her 2024 album 143, on Monday, Jan. 27. The “Dark Horse” singer will kick off the U.S. leg of the outing in Houston on May 7 — and she promises the tour will be a “love-filled spectacle” and a “celebration of a lot of the songs that people know.”
While the show is about her fans dancing the night away and having a blast, Perry’s priorities are family, health and delivering a great performance.
“I’m 40. I have a family. I have a whole other world outside of this that I’m tending to as well. I know the responsibility of putting on a tour and how much people look forward to it,” the “Last Friday Night” singer says. “I’m really trying to stay in the best shape, give my body breaks, look after myself so that I can show up every night and give as close to 100% that I can.”
As for the actor, Perry previously opened up about his energy as a romantic partner during an appearance on Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.
“He’s a real sage. We both have parts of ourselves. There’s two parts of us, our highest good, and then our carnal, material self. Ego,” she said of Bloom, 48, with whom she shares 4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove. “When the ego is running the show, then it’s like, ‘Whoa.’ But when that’s in check, then we’re both something else.”

Perry met Bloom at a Golden Globes afterparty in January 2016. Before that, she she was “stuck in a bad, continuing loop” and wanted someone as curious about life as she is, Perry told Lowe. Before the award show, Perry “set so many intentions” under a full moon for a potential future in hopes of seeing “what’s out there in the world” romantically,” she added.
The couple got engaged in 2019 and welcomed Daisy the following year. She’s learned a lot about him since and is continuously impressed by his parenting abilities.
“I mean, life is not peachy keen, jelly bean. It’s about who you are in those really challenging moments,” she told Lowe at the time, “and I get to see who he is in those challenging moments. And it’s why I chose him.”

“He said that at the end of the day there were just qualities about me that he worries about having in a wife,” Kirkconnell, 28, shared during her “Call Her Daddy” podcast appearance, which premiered on Tuesday, January 28. “At the end of the day, there are things that we aren’t compatible with and the whole accountability and saying sorry and all that was really the main thing. It was just one of those things where he, I think, just had this realization that ‘I should want to propose to you by this time. Like, at this point in our relationship, I should be wanting those things and I should be ready for that. But I’m not still, I still don’t feel like we’re ready or I don’t feel like I’m ready. I don’t know if I ever see myself proposing to you. I can’t actually see myself married to you.’”
Kirkconnell recalled James saying that “one day” he would get to the point of a proposal, but didn’t feel ready.
“I told him, I said, ‘Well, I feel like after four years you should know or you should feel ready. And if you don’t then that’s not a good thing. We probably shouldn’t be together if you don’t feel like that after four years because you know me better than anyone. I know you better than anyone, so you should know by now if you see this for the long haul or not,’” she continued, noting that James “didn’t think” she was his “perfect person.”
Call Her Daddy “He just didn’t want me to end up resenting him by wasting more of my time if it wouldn’t happen,” Kirkconnell added. “He just said, you know, ‘You’re beautiful, smart and funny and you’ll find, you’ll find someone, you’ll find a guy that will love you for you.’ He just didn’t think that it was him. It was just a lot to hear at once because a few days before, you know, I’m hearing the opposite.”
Hours before her “Call Her Daddy” interview dropped, Kirkconnell was stopped at an airport and briefly addressed her split from James, 33, for the first time.
“It’s nothing that you can prepare for. So, you just take it one day at a time,” she said in the video posted via the Instagram gossip account Deux Moi on Tuesday. “I think things will start to come out.”

Mike Budenhozler responds to Jusuf Nurkic’s ‘relationship’ comments
The Phoenix Suns hadn’t been two games above .500 in more than a month before Saturday night’s 119-109 win over the NBA-worst Washington Wizards in front of a sellout crowd of 17,071 at Footprint Center.
The Suns (23-21) were once 14-12 after a Dec. 19 loss at Indiana. They’ve gone 9-9 since but won six of their last eight games in building momentum going into the NBA All-Star break next month.
Kevin Durant scored a team-high 29 points, Bradley Beal delivered 20 off the bench and Nick Richards posted another impressive double-double of 20 points and a career-high 19 rebounds.
Devin Booker added 18 points despite shooting 0-of-8 from 3 while Tyus Jones chipped in 16 points. Kyle Kuzma paced the Wizards (6-38) with a game-high 30 points.
The Suns led by as many as 19 points in the third quarter. Washington (6-36) cut that lead to four, but Phoenix answered with a 9-2 run to end the quarter to take a 96-85 lead as Durant scored seven straight points and Tyus Jones capped the run with a jumper with 0.8 seconds left.

Phoenix rushed the lead back up to 15 early in the fourth and the Wizards once again responded to trim that deficit to four again with 1:57 remaining in the game before the Suns pulled away.
Here are takeaways as the Suns look to win a third straight game for the second time this month on Monday against the Los Angeles Clippers (26-19) at Footprint Center.
Phoenix is now eighth in the West after being as low as 11th.
Budenholzer addresses Nurkic’s relationship comments
Jusuf Nurkic spoke with The Arizona Republic before the game about his current situation with the Suns of not playing, trade talk and his relationship with Suns coach Mike Budenholzer.
“I didn’t talk to coach for two months,” said Nurkic when asked if Budenholzer talked to him about his role with Richards joining the team in a trade on Jan. 15. “We don’t have a relationship.”
After the game, Budenholzer was initially asked about the relationship with Nurkic.
“It’s never easy in this league,” Budenholzer said. “He hasn’t played. I’m sure he’s frustrated. I respect that.”
When pressed about the situation, Budenholzer said, “There’s been conversations that have been had. There’s been communication, but we’ve got three or four guys that play the same position. We’re going to go with who we think gives us our best chance. You’ve got to earn your minutes. And that’s been communicated.”
Budenholzer has been consistent with the “earn minutes” theme. Nurkic hasn’t played since Jan. 7 due to a combination of Budenholzer not playing him a total of three games counting Saturday, an illness that sidelined him four games and reconditioning over a two-game stretch.
Budenholzer added that Nurkic has been “fine” as far as being a good teammate in the locker room.
Sources informed The Republic the Suns have been trying to shop Nurkic as the Feb. 6 trade deadline approaches. This could end a number of ways, but it is clear things aren’t working out for Nurkic.
Richards continues to make impact
The Suns have also found their starting center in Richards.
Acquiring him in a trade on Jan. 15, Phoenix now has a younger, more athletic big who has produced two double-doubles in his first four games with this latest one a near 20-20 night.
Any points he scores out of the post are a bonus, but Durant is encouraging him to attack guys down low. The Suns need his rebounding and defense more than his scoring, but they will take 19 points from Richards any night, especially if he’s getting to the line seven times and making six.
Richards is not the team’s savior.
The Suns still have much room to improve, but he’s bringing more to the table at the center position than they were getting with Mason Plumlee, rookie Oso Ighodaro and Nurkic.
Dunn hurt, Beal back in starting lineup?
The Suns lost Ryan Dunn early in the first quarter with a left ankle sprain. He checked out with 10:11 remaining in the quarter and was replaced by Beal.
By the end of the first quarter, Beal had scored six points in helping the Suns build a double-digit lead. Beal wound up starting the second half with Jones, Booker, Durant and Richards.
Budenholzer said Dunn’s imaging came back negative and they’ll see how he’s feeling in the morning. The Suns have Sunday off, but Dunn will probably get some treatment at the practice facility.
Here’s the next question?
When Dunn returns, will he jump back into the starting lineup or will Beal return as the starter?
Decisions, decisions, decisions
Another layer to this is Tyus Jones.
He’s now playing more off the ball while Booker, Beal and Durant are handling it more. It’s been an adjustment, but Jones scored 16 points and dished out five assists to two turnovers in 32 minutes.
Jones went just 1-of-5 on 3s as he’s become more and more of a catch-and-shoot guy, but he shot a combined 5-of-11 from distance in Phoenix’s two previous games.
The Suns may be finding an offensive formula just moving parts within.

Devin Booker after sweeping home-away series vs. Wizards: “There were good spurts in the game and bad spurts. I think our true tests are coming up this next week. We’ve got to get ready for the Clippers on Monday.”
Mike Budenholzer on Suns winning six of last eight games: “Book has been in a good place. Brad was great tonight, Kevin. I think we’re just finding ways to win some games, put some good stretches together. We’ve got to continue it.”
Kevin Durant on becoming only the seventh player in NBA history to receive at least 15 NBA All-Star selections with the other six being Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O’Neal: “It means a lot to be in that company and some guys that’s in that group of people that change the world to be honest. Just from how they played the game, how they approached the game, the attitude, their personality, their stories, their journey inspired the world. And I’m just grateful to be a part of that. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but it’s a lot of people who sacrificed their time to help me out to become the player that I am today. So, when I do stuff like that, I always reflect and just grateful for the people that stood in there with me and got me better as well. So, I can’t wait to be out there in The Bay in a place that I’m familiar with as well. I’m looking forward to that.”
Nick Richards on grabbing a combined 34 rebounds in last two games after collecting only four in loss at Cleveland: “Rebounding for sure is one of the things that coach, like he emphasized with being on our first meeting, trying my hardest. The second game, I only have four. He came to me after the game, and he told me, ‘We brought you here for a reason. You’ve got to step up.’ So, yeah, just trying my best to just focus on that part of the game, and I think everything else will take care of itself.”
