Israel is preparing to receive three male hostages held in Gaza on Saturday, in the latest release of captives under the Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal.
The militant group named the three men on Friday that it intends to release: Keith Siegel, Yarden Bibas and Ofer Kalderon.
Here’s what we know about them.
Keith Siegel, an Israeli-American citizen, was taken from his home in kibbutz Kfar Aza. His wife Aviva, who was kidnapped alongside him, was released in November 2023 as part of the short-lived ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.
Aviva Siegel said that while they were held captive together, Keith would ask everyone to identify one thing they were thankful for. “Imagine being in the depths of hell and still trying to find one thing each day that you are thankful for,” she said, according to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum.
Yarden Bibas was kidnapped from kibbutz Nir Oz alongside his wife Shiri and two sons Kfir and Ariel. Kfir was just nine months when he was abducted, the youngest hostage taken on October 7.
Hamas claimed in November 2023 that Shiri, Kfir and Ariel Bibas were killed in an Israeli airstrike. Israel never confirmed their deaths, but the military has told relatives that they may not be alive, according to a spokesperson for the Hostages and Missing Families Forum.
The Bibas family, and Kfir in particular, are among the most recognizable victims of the October 7 terror attacks.
Kfir’s picture has been featured on many of the posters calling for the release of the hostages that have been on display across Israel and the world for the past 15 months. In it, the red-haired baby boy is holding a pink elephant toy, looking directly into the camera with a toothless smile.
Ofer Kalderon, a French-Israeli citizen, was 52 when he was kidnapped from kibbutz Nir Oz together with his son Erez, who was 11 at the time, and his daughter Sahar, who was 16. Erez and Sahar were also released during the November 2023 ceasefire.
Kalderon has been described by his family as a keen cyclist and expert carpenter, and a man who enjoys music and field trips with his children.

Final Destination: Bloodlines, the sixth movie installment in the Final Destination Universe, is still on track for its May 2025 release, even with the number of hurdles it has encountered and overcome. As its release date fast approaches, music composer Tim Wynn has revealed the film’s official logo via a now-deleted post on his Instagram per ComicBook. Wynn also announced the completion of the movie’s score, with the image that came from inside the editing room during the final stages of post-production.
In the image below, a large screen shows Final Destination: Bloodlines in bold letters on a dark background and with blood splatter centered on the title. And in the caption, Wynn penned, “That’s a wrap. Looking forward to this being released in the theaters this May. Grateful to be a part of this amazing team.” Speaking of the team, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein serve as directors of the supernatural film with Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor attached as scribes. New Line Cinema produces, while Warner Bros. Pictures is in charge of distribution in the U.S.
Final Destination: Bloodlines has come a long way since it was announced over half a decade ago. In January 2019, years after the release of Final Destination 5, New Line Cinema announced a new installment in the franchise was in development. However, the project encountered several obstacles before getting a release date. The planned July 2023 production start in Vancouver was delayed by the SAG-AFTRA strike, with filming eventually taking place between March 4 and May 13, 2024, under cinematographer Christian Sebaldt. Most of the cast was revealed within that period, and later, in December, Wynn was hired to compose the score.
Created by Jeffrey Reddick, the Final Destination films are set around the premise of a small group of people who escape impending death after one individual has a sudden intuition and warns them about a major disaster that is about to happen. After avoiding their foretold deaths seen in the visions, the survivors are later killed one by one in unusual accidents caused by an unseen force creating complicated chains of cause and effect.
The first four films in the franchise each have about three years in between their release dates, but Final Destination 5 arrived two years after its predecessor and did pretty well at the global box office. It grossed nearly $158 million, slightly less than the fourth installment’s earnings of over $186 million. All in all, Final Destination is the tenth highest-grossing horror franchise nationwide and is New Line’s third most lucrative horror franchise, behind The Conjuring franchise and the IT series.

This week, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has granted AST Special Temporary Authority (STA) authorizing beta service in the United States. This approval enables AST SpaceMobile’s first five commercial BlueBird satellites, operating in low Earth orbit today, to test satellite connections with Verizon smartphones supporting voice, full data and video applications, and other native cellular capabilities, without the need of any specialized software or device support or update.
Verizon utilizes nearly 300 satellite-based portable network assets to ensure connectivity where fiber cables are unavailable or compromised. These assets provide temporary network access for first responders and in areas with limited permanent infrastructure, or for linking cell sites to the broader network when fiber cables are compromised due to power outages or physical damage.
Verizon uses satellite connections as backhaul for cell sites in remote areas (like forests and mountain tops) where traditional wired connections like fiber are not yet available. Satellite connections can be set up quickly compared to laying fiber, particularly in areas with significant geographical or logistical barriers. This rapid deployment is a useful solution while fiber optics is being planned and deployed. This allows cell sites to be operational and provide service while waiting for the installation of a more robust and high-capacity connection.

OpenAI is releasing a new artificial intelligence model for free, after the company said it would speed up product releases in response to the emergence of a Chinese rival.
The startup behind ChatGPT is issuing the AI, called o3-mini, after the surprise success of a rival product by China’s DeepSeek. It will be available without charge – albeit with usage limits – to people who use the free version of OpenAI’s chatbot.
DeepSeek rattled tech investors in the US with the release of R1, a so-called reasoning model that underpinned the company’s eponymous chatbot. News that it had topped Apple’s free app store and claims it had been developed at a fraction of the cost wiped $1tn off the tech-heavy Nasdaq index on Monday.
OpenAI’s chief executive, Sam Altman, reacted to DeepSeek’s challenge by pledging to “deliver much better models” and accelerate product releases. He had first announced plans to release o3-mini – a less powerful version of the full o3 model that has yet to be released publicly – on 23 January, days after DeepSeek unveiled R1.
“Today’s launch marks the first time we’re bringing reasoning capabilities to our free users, an important step towards broadening accessibility to advanced AI in service of our mission,” said OpenAI.
R1, the underlying technology for DeepSeek’s chatbot, not only rivalled its OpenAI equivalent in performance but was also developed with fewer resources, according to DeepSeek. This has made investors ask whether US tech firms will continue their dominance of the AI market and generate a return on the multibillion-dollar sums they have invested in AI infrastructure and products.
OpenAI said the o3-mini model matched its predecessor, o1, in maths, coding, and science but at a significantly lower cost and with faster responses. Users on ChatGPT’s Pro package, which costs $200 a month, will get unlimited access to o3-mini, while users on the cheaper Plus tariff will have higher usage limits than free users.

Reginae Carter also discussed her decision to maintain a private life. She feels that people pay more attention to who she’s dating than to her work.
“My relationships has been the highlight of my life. I just feel like people always obsessed with my relationships and don’t really pay attention to my craft and my talent. I’ll drop a movie the same week, but then be seen with a boy and that will get posted and not my movie. I want people to focus on me, because them men they are a [distraction] in my life,” Reginae said.
