  • Continued bitter cold temperatures will remain in place today for the Pittsburgh area

    KDKA-TV Morning Forecast (1/21)

    KDKA-TV Morning Forecast (1/21)

    03:11

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Continued bitter cold temperatures will remain in place today throughout the Pittsburgh area.

This morning is just as cold as we thought it would be with the coldest air temps happening now through Thursday morning.  Even after the coldest air is out of here, it will be plenty cold still with morning lows just near 10 degrees on both Friday and Saturday mornings.  High temperatures will slowly tick up this weekend with highs expected to hit the 30s both Saturday & Sunday.

Highs this afternoon will hit the mid-teens.  I have us hitting 14° for today’s highs. Noon temperatures should be near 10°. Wednesday morning temps will dip to below -5° but won’t fall below -10°. The record low for today is -18°.  Wednesday’s record low is -14° so I don’t think we will be threatening to break any records during this stretch. Wednesday highs should hit the mid to low teens.

While cold weather in place is the big story today, I also expect we will see some brief snow showers sliding through this evening.  It could have an impact on the back end of the evening rush today with a brief but fairly intense line of snow rolling through ahead of a mid-level disturbance.

Snow totals from this line of snow should be around a half-inch, but that could come in a period of around a half hour.

This means a quick dusting of snow will be possible on area roads along and just after the line rolls through.  Also, visibilities should be expected to quickly lower as it rolls through.

Looking to the weekend, snow chances for Sunday have now slid to be more Sunday evening to Monday morning. A couple of inches of snow should be expected with this system.

We are still a couple of days out from this system’s arrival and there is still a lot of uncertainty there but we will continue to update you on what to expect for the rest of the week.

Brrr! Brace yourselves, Pittsburgh – the bitter cold temperatures are here to stay for another day. With temperatures hovering in the single digits, it’s important to bundle up and stay warm as you head out the door.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for the area, warning of dangerously cold wind chills that could cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes. It’s crucial to limit your time outside and cover exposed skin to protect yourself from the frigid conditions.

If you must venture outside, make sure to wear multiple layers, a hat, gloves, and a scarf to stay warm. Remember to check on elderly neighbors, bring pets indoors, and be cautious of icy sidewalks and roads.

Stay safe and stay warm, Pittsburgh – hopefully, this cold snap will pass soon. In the meantime, hunker down, grab a hot beverage, and embrace the coziness of winter.

  • First Champions League league phase’s huge success: Excitement, uncertainty dominate as two matchdays remain

It’s Halloween 2022. The final round of the Champions League group stage is ahead of us, the perfect amuse-bouche for the feast of football that will be the World Cup. Europe’s premier club competition has delivered thrills aplenty so far. Barcelona are out. Juventus lost in Haifa. Napoli have set the continent alight. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the final round of games!

Aaah. Well. Yes, I suppose it will be fun to see if Tottenham can hold on to top spot in Group D. Bayer Leverkusen or Atletico Madrid, who will get that Europa League berth? See, that was the thing with the old Champions League group stage. The road to the last chapter tended to be full of twists and turns but by the time you got there you already knew what ending you were getting. Heading into the final match day of the season, 11 out of 16 spots had already been decided. More than that, because of the group stage setup, five of the eight groups had nothing left to play for, meaning that ten out of 16 games were dead rubbers with nothing at stake.

This time around you’re probably going to need to go back over the closing events a fair few times before it becomes apparent what exactly has happened. There are only two rounds left to go in the elongated league phase. There is so little we know for certain about how it is going to shape out.

Big teams struggling in league phase

    Getty Images

A recap then, for those who have had a lot going on these last six weeks. Of the 36 teams in the league phase two are through to the knockouts: six wins from six Liverpool — who will not need to play in the play off — and Barcelona in second. Three are eliminated with Leipzig, Slovan Bratislava and Young Boys still awaiting their first point. Aside from that, everything is up for grabs. The cadre of teams on 13 points almost certainly aren’t going to get eliminated from Europe altogether but they all have work to do to guarantee a top eight spot and the bye weeks that come with it. Crvena zvezda might need a lot of breaks in their attempts to overturn a five point deficit on Dinamo Zagreb in 24th but, mathematically, it could happen.

Then there is the totemic clash of matchday seven. Paris Saint-Germain sit just behind the two dozen teams whose involvement in the Champions League will extend beyond January. Manchester City are just inside. Whichever team loses at the Parc des Princes will have an almighty test ahead of them in the final round of games, a draw serves the interests of neither.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have work to do. They will probably be fine, not least because they have soon to be eliminated Salzburg up next, but the perennial champions of Europe are going to need every possible break to go their way if they are to avoid a potentially tricky play off. Three-quarters of the competition played and three of the continent’s biggest hitters are in jeopardy, Pot One teams at that. You could not often say that under the old format.

New schedule favors lower ranked sides

    Getty Images

Why such difficulties for the big teams? It might just be because the little guys have nothing to fear. Take Madrid’s opponents on the final matchday, a Brest side whose professional status was only restored in 2004. In the old format the lowest ranked team in the competition in coefficient terms would have been paired with the big hitters of Pots One and Two, a little misfortune with who came in the third group and the journey of a lifetime could have been a slog. Instead a little fortune from the draw and they turned games against opposition from Pots Three and Four into six points from six. Momentum has been on their side ever since. As Leipzig can attest, when and where you get your games might well matter more in the league phase but the little guys have a chance now.

In the final 10 years of the group stage the most common number of Pot Four qualifiers for the knockout stages was one. This year there are eight more spots but as many as four, perhaps even five could make it. One is even likely to be in the top eight and while Aston Villa were a particularly dangerous unseeded side so were Newcastle when they were cast into, and crashed out the group of death last season.

The problem with repetitive group stages is they resulted in repetitive knockout rounds. Erling Haaland drubs Germany’s third best team. Inter really convince you they’ve got something for a while. Arsenal get sent home as soon as they run into Barcelona or Bayern Munich. Maybe the same will happen this year, but Celtic, Feyenoord and Brest are going to get to have their say. The earlier in the competition the randomness of knockout football is injected, the greater the opportunity for surprises.

The league phase is not an unqualified success mind. There are no guarantees that next time around three of Europe’s very biggest teams will be fighting just to prolong their involvement in the competition. Further up the field, how much will a spot in the top eight really matter, particularly for sides outside England who can get away with more rotation in their domestic league fixtures?

Certainly in the earlier rounds of a new competition it was a struggle to get a sense of just what was at stake in any game. No wonder that in the era of fixture congestion Vincent Kompany felt the best place to rest Jamal Musiala was at Villa Park or Simone Inzaghi opted to roll out his B team for Arsenal’s visit. As Pep Guardiola put it in October, “This new format, I don’t know how you handle it or how many points you need. Maybe you can finish in 13th, 14th or 15th – and not qualify for the top eight – and then win the Champions League.”

There will be plenty of coaches scratching their head over the next 10 days. Even when the group stages did deliver their most dramatic moments — think last year and Manchester United’s one team act of reverse escapology from the easiest group they could have hoped for — it was isolated. Come next Wednesday, a goal at the Bay Arena will reverberate around Villa Park and the San Siro. Goal difference alone might take Monaco from home advantage against Sporting to a meeting with Madrid. The possibilities are endless. Will any coach be tempted to gamble their position to manufacture a path to the final that keeps his side away from the likely top two of Barcelona and Liverpool? Will that even be possible with 17 other matches going on at the same time?

It is almost impossible to predict. That’s why this new format works. Come the final round of fixtures almost every game will matter. It has been a long time since that was the case.

The first phase of the Champions League has been nothing short of a huge success, with excitement and uncertainty dominating the competition as we head into the final two matchdays.
Fans have been treated to some thrilling matches, with surprises and upsets keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. From underdog teams pulling off unexpected victories to powerhouse clubs facing tough challenges, this season’s Champions League has been full of drama and excitement.
With two matchdays remaining, the race for the knockout stages is still wide open, with several teams vying for a spot in the next round. The competition is fierce, and every match is crucial as teams battle it out for a chance to lift the coveted Champions League trophy.
As we look ahead to the final two matchdays, one thing is certain: the excitement and uncertainty will only continue to grow as teams fight for glory in Europe’s premier club competition. Stay tuned for more thrilling action as the Champions League unfolds.

  • Tulane Green Wave Seeks To Remain at Top of Conference in Showdown at Temple Owls

The Tulane Green Wave men’s basketball team aims to remain at the top of the American Athletic Conference as they head to Philadelphia, Pa., to face the Temple Owls.

The team sits at 4-1 under the UAB Blazers, whose 11-7 overall record bests the Green Wave’s 10-8 by one win. A win against the Owls would improve them to a 5-1 start in league play.

That would match the basketball program’s best conference start since they began 5-1 in the 2022-23 season. Head coach Ron Hunter is in his sixth year with the team and is well on the way to efforts to secure a second season with a record above .500.

Tulane is coming off an 80-65 victory over the FAU Owls— a second consecutive AAC victory the team pulled off with conviction.

Guard Rowan Brumbaugh has slotted in as a strong No. 2 option behind Kaleb Banks, who transferred from the Indiana Hoosiers. Banks leads the team with points per game with 18.5, and his rebounds and blocked shots are also leading the Green Wave.

Brumbaugh transferred from the Georgetown Hoyas and leads the team in assists and averages only 2.0 turnovers per game. He’s improved his shot efficiency, and his playmaking allows for some variety around Banks.

Meanwhile, Greg Glenn had a career-high 11 assists in the win over FAU. The team is starting to meld together as they enter a critical stretch in conference play.

Sunday will mark the 24th all-time meeting between Tulane and Temple, with the Green Wave victorious in the last three contests. The Owls lead the overall series 14-9.

Temple is coming off an 88-81 victory over the No. 18 ranked Memphis Tigers and now sits at 3-1 in conference play with an overall 11-6 record, placing them at No. 5 in the American standings.

The Tulane Green Wave is gearing up for a crucial conference showdown against the Temple Owls as they aim to maintain their position at the top of the standings. With both teams vying for supremacy in the American Athletic Conference, this matchup promises to be a thrilling battle between two talented squads.

Tulane has been on a hot streak as of late, racking up impressive wins and showcasing their depth and skill on both ends of the court. Led by a dynamic group of players, including standout performers like Jaylen Forbes and Gabe Watson, the Green Wave has proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with in the conference.

On the other hand, the Temple Owls are hungry for a statement win as they look to climb up the standings and assert themselves as contenders in the conference. With a talented roster and a strong defensive mindset, Temple will be looking to stifle Tulane’s high-powered offense and secure a crucial victory on their home court.

As these two teams prepare to face off in a high-stakes battle, fans can expect a competitive and intense game that will surely keep them on the edge of their seats. The outcome of this matchup could have significant implications for the conference standings, making it a must-watch for fans of college basketball.

Don’t miss out on all the action as the Tulane Green Wave takes on the Temple Owls in what promises to be a thrilling showdown between two top teams in the American Athletic Conference. Stay tuned for what is sure to be an exciting and closely contested game between these two talented squads.

  • Bravas Remain Undefeated, Bravos Host Cruz Azul

FC Juarez Bravas went on the road for the first time in the 2025 clausura season and played Chivas de Guadalajara to a scoreless draw on Thursday night. The result keeps the Bravas undefeated on the season after three matches. They won their first two matches at home versus Puebla and Necaxa.

It was a hard fought match with plenty of back and forth up until the 67th minute when Chivas fullback Diana Rodriguez received a second yellow card that led to a red card. Still, FC Juarez was unable to capitalize on the one-player advantage they had in the final 20+ minutes of the match to put the ball in the back of the net. When all was said and done the goalkeepers for each team, Blanca Felix for Chivas and Christina Holguin for Bravas, were vital to the result and both had a couple of superior saves on net the help keep each of their teams with a clean sheet.

The Bravas have yet to concede a goal this season, in over 270 minutes of play.

With this latest result the Bravas have moved up to fourth place in the general standings table, having obtained seven points after three matches as a result of two wins and one draw. Ahead of them in the standings is Club America with nine points as a result of winning all three of their matches and Pachuca and Chivas who also have seven points but are head of FC Juarez due to goal differential.

    What’s next for the Bravas?

Up next for the Bravas will be a home match on Monday afternoon against Pumas. The Pumas will come into the match fresh off of a dominating 5-1 win against Santos Laguna. They are two places behind the Bravas, in 6th place with two wins and a loss thus far this season.

The match will kickoff at Benito Juarez Olympic Stadium at 3:45 pm. The time was moved up earlier in the day due to inclement weather expected to hit the Borderland on Monday. The match will be streamed on FC Juarez official YouTube Channel.

    Bravos host Cruz Azul

FC Juarez will host their 2025 clausura season home opener Saturday afternoon when they host Cruz Azul. Cruz Azul finished in first place in the general standings table last season before making an early exit in the playoffs. Both teams came into Saturday afternoon’s match with a season opening draw with identical circumstances. The Bravas tied 1-1 at Mazatlan last Friday, while Cruz Azul also played Atlas to a 1-1 draw at home. Both teams took the lead in the first half and into the locker room at halftime only to concede the equalizer halfway through the second half to their opponent.

Saturday’s match will be the home debut of Bravos new technical director/head coach Martin Varini. The Uruguayan, Varini, was introduced as the club’s new technical director/head coach on November 29th. He is 33 years old, making him the youngest head coach in all of Mexico’s first division.

Fans in attendance on Saturday will experience Benito Juarez Olympic Stadium’s new cashless system. Prior to the start of the season opener last week, Luis Rodriguez, the Executive President of FC Juarez spoke with the media in what he jokingly called a ‘State of the Union’ address. In his conference he held an open forum where he addressed all matters having to do with both the male and female teams for FC Juarez. He commented on the decision to go ‘cashless’ at all FC Juarez games and what he expects that experience to be like for fans moving forward.

Rodriguez also commented on the club’s departure and termination of their contract with Fox Sports Mexico and why the decision was made. The El Paso native said the team is actively talking with other television networks to see what provider will broadcast their home matches. On Thursday of this week the club announced that TV Azteca will be the Bravos television partner moving forward in Mexico. Nothing will change stateside as the Bravos home matches will continue to be broadcast on Fox Deportes, while certain matches will be picked up by FS1 and FS2 in English.

Saturday’s home opener scheduled for 4 p.m. will be picked up by FS1 and be broadcast in English while also being televised in Spanish by FOX Deportes.

  • Ex-49er Dana Stubblefield denied bail ruling, to remain in prison

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Former San Francisco 49ers star Dana Stubblefield, whose 2020 rape conviction was vacated late last year, will remain in California state prison for now after a judge declined to make a bail ruling Friday.

Santa Clara County’s Superior Court Judge Hector Ramon said he couldn’t grant bail or release the former football star because the case remains under the jurisdiction of an appeals court, The Mercury News reported.

The Sixth District Court of Appeal vacated Stubblefield’s conviction in December 2024 and overturned his sentence of 15 years to life in prison after finding that racial bias had tainted his trial; Stubblefield is Black. But the appellate court’s remittitur, a technical ruling that returns jurisdiction to the lower court, is not expected to be issued until next month, the news outlet reported.

Stubblefield’s attorneys have sought his release, asserting there are no longer grounds to keep him incarcerated.

In a motion filed to Ramon earlier this week, the attorneys said the judge had the authority to transfer the ex-NFL player from California State Prison, Corcoran — where he has served close to four years of a 15-year sentence — to county jail, and then grant his release on bail. That would effectively return Stubblefield to the same status that he had pretrial, which they argue is his current legal standing, the news outlet reported.

In court Friday, Ramon maintained jurisdiction isn’t returned to the local court until the Court of Appeal issues the remittitur. Deputy District Attorney Tim McInerney’s office has stated it supports Stubblefield remaining in custody, according to The Mercury News.

Outside the courthouse, Stubblefield’s attorneys opposed the decision.

“As he sits here, everything has been vacated, he has been convicted of nothing, and a legally innocent man is sitting in prison because we’re waiting on a time clock,” attorney Ken Rosenfeld said.

The retired football player was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison in October 2020 after being convicted of raping a developmentally disabled woman whom prosecutors said he lured to his home in 2015 with the promise of a babysitting job. Defense attorneys said no rape occurred, and Stubblefield said the woman consented to sex in exchange for money.

In December 2024, the Sixth Court of Appeal found that prosecutors violated the California Racial Justice Act of 2020, a law passed during a summer of protest over the police killing of George Floyd. The measure bars prosecutors from seeking a criminal conviction or imposing a sentence on the basis of race.

The appeals court said prosecutors used “racially discriminatory language” that required them to overturn Stubblefield’s conviction.

Stubblefield began his 11-year lineman career in the NFL with the 49ers in 1993 as the league’s defensive rookie of the year. He later won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1997 before leaving the team to play for Washington. He returned to the Bay Area to finish his career, playing with the 49ers in 2000 and 2001 and the Raiders in 2003.

Former San Francisco 49ers player Dana Stubblefield has been denied bail and will remain in prison as he awaits his sentencing for rape charges. Stubblefield was convicted in July of raping a developmentally disabled woman and now faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life behind bars. Despite his attorney’s arguments for bail, the judge ruled that Stubblefield poses a danger to the community and must stay in custody until his sentencing hearing. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • Republicans pledge Remain in Mexico policy will return under Trump | National

(The Center Square) – Border-focused Republicans are eagerly awaiting the next Trump administration, and with it, the return of Remain in Mexico, an immigration policy that makes migrants who illegally cross the border to claim asylum wait in Mexico for their court date, rather than being released into the U.S. under parole.

During a U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs hearing, witnesses confirmed to lawmakers that the president has the statutory power to reimplement the 2019 program, also known as Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), but added that Congress must do its part.

“Congress must provide the president the resources he needs to accomplish that task,” Andrew R. Arthur from the Center for Immigration Studies testified. “But the current and incoming presidents, like their immediate predecessors, already have ample statutory authorities in the INA to secure the border. How and whether the president chooses to use those authorities, however, is up to him.”

Remain in Mexico in particular is a crucial tool to combat the immigration crisis, he added, because successfully deterring illegal immigration starts before migrants physically reach the border. If potential migrants know the president is serious about securing the border, many of them will decide the risks and costs of travel are not worth the slim chances of success.

Under the Biden administration, which scrapped Remain in Mexico and many other border security policies, more than 12 million migrants have illegally tried to cross the border. In fiscal year 2024 alone, nearly 3 million migrants crossed or attempted to cross the border.

But Adam Isacson, director for Defense Oversight at the Washington Office on Latin America, testified against MPP, claiming it had “proved to be only a modest deterrent” as fewer than 68,000 migrants were returned to Mexico to await their asylum hearings when the program was in full swing.

Additionally, he said, the policy had enriched Mexican cartels who exploited migrants waiting in northern Mexico.

“By requiring non-Mexicans to linger for months or even years in border cities, Remain in Mexico created a rich new income stream for cartels,” Isacson said. “[T]hose made to Remain in Mexico were very motivated to pay extortions or ransoms because they could not miss their court dates. If migrants despaired of the MPP process, migrant smugglers – ‘coyotes’ – were waiting to take them across the border for a hefty fee.”

Arthur disagreed with Isacson’s assertion that Remain in Mexico failed to work. Taking the 68,000 number without factoring in other statistics presents a misleading picture of the program’s efficacy, he said.

According to CBP data, agents encountered roughly 144,000 migrants attempting to cross the Southwest border in May 2019. By September of that year, after MPP had been operating for months and news of it had spread, encounters dropped to roughly 52,000 monthly. And in February 2020, CBP encountered fewer than 37,000 migrants.

So the relatively low number of migrants sent to Mexico resulted from CBP encountering fewer migrants due to the MPP deterring people from traveling to cross the border in the first place, Arthur said.

Kenneth Cuccinelli, former acting Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2019 to 2021, added that the claim MPP enriched cartels is also false, because the drop in people who attempted to make the journey subsequently led to the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars for the cartels who transport migrants to the border.

“The idea that the cartels benefitted from the Remain in Mexico program is relatively ludicrous compared to the alternative,” Cuccinelli said. “And the alternative we’ve lived with the last four years has been the greatest enriching of the most evil and vicious people in the Western Hemisphere.”

Remain in Mexico could further depress migrant numbers by incentivizing Mexico to do its part and protect its own borders, Cuccinelli said. If thousands of migrants seeking asylum will remain in Mexico for long stretches of time – migrants coming from multiple unstable countries – Mexico will likely ban migrants from using its country as a route to the U.S.

“The real success of programs like the Remain in Mexico program is not just that they screen out fake asylum seekers, but that they help deter illegal aliens from coming in the first place,” Cuccinelli said. “The goal of true border security is to be so effective at keeping attempted illegal entrants out, that they never try to come in the first place.”

Republicans pledge Remain in Mexico policy will return under Trump

In a recent statement, Republican lawmakers have pledged to reinstate the controversial Remain in Mexico policy if former President Donald Trump is re-elected in 2024. The policy, officially known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), required asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their cases were processed in the United States.

Critics of the policy argued that it put migrants in danger and violated their rights, while supporters claimed it was necessary to address the surge of asylum seekers at the southern border. The policy was implemented by the Trump administration in 2019 and remained in place until President Joe Biden ended it shortly after taking office.

With the recent surge of migrants at the border, Republican lawmakers are calling for the reinstatement of the Remain in Mexico policy as a way to deter illegal immigration and enforce stricter border control measures. They believe that the policy is necessary to protect national security and prevent the abuse of the asylum system.

The pledge to bring back the Remain in Mexico policy under a potential Trump presidency in 2024 has sparked debate among politicians and immigration advocates. While some argue that the policy is necessary to address the border crisis, others believe it is inhumane and ineffective in addressing the root causes of migration.

As the debate over immigration policy continues to heat up, it remains to be seen whether the Remain in Mexico policy will indeed make a comeback under a Republican administration in the future. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

    No. 12 Michigan State
    No. 13 Oregon
    No. 17 Purdue
    No. 19 Illinois
    No. 20 Michigan

    Rutgers 75, UCLA 68

Rutgers snapped its three-game losing streak with a 75-68 victory over UCLA, extending the Bruins’ skid to four games. Freshman Ace Bailey was the standout, recording a double-double with 20 points, 10 boards. Dylan Harper contributed 18 points, including two 3-pointers, and Jeremiah Williams had 11 points off the bench.

UCLA was led by Eric Dailey Jr. and Sebastian Mack, each scoring 16 points. Despite UCLA’s early 7-0 run and a 33-30 halftime lead, Rutgers rallied in the second half, with Bailey leading the charge to secure the win.

    Maryland 77, Minnesota 71

Maryland oultasted Minnesota, with freshman Derik Queen leading the way, scoring a season-high 27 points. Queen played a key role in the victory, scoring six consecutive points to push Maryland ahead 60-53. His dunk with 4:19 left capped his scoring performance, setting a new career high.

Rodney Rice added 21 points, while Ja’Kobi Gillespie chipped in 15 points and seven assists. For Minnesota, Dawson Garcia led the Gophers with 21 points. Freshmen Isaac Asuma and Lu’Cye Patterson each contributed 15 points, but the Gophers’ late push fell short as Maryland held on for the win.

    No. 19 Illinois 94, Indiana 69

Now this was more like it for the Fighting Illini. Illinois cruised to a 94-69 victory over Indiana, opening up a massive 28-point halftime lead. Kylan Boswell led the charge with 22 points, while Kasparas Jakucionis added 21, and Tomislav Ivisic contributed a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Fighting Illini were dominant from the start and established a commanding 60-32 lead by the break.

Indiana did rally after the break, scoring the first 10 points of the second half, but they never managed to seriously threaten. Oumar Ballo led the Hoosiers with 16 points and 15 rebounds, but his efforts were not enough to close the gap.

    No. 24 Wisconsin 70, Ohio State 68

Wisconsin fended off a late comeback attempt by Ohio State to secure a 70-68 win, extending its winning streak to six games. The Badgers held a commanding 37-20 lead at halftime, but struggled after the break, as Ohio State mounted a rally. Bruce Thornton’s 21 points and Devin Royal’s 12 helped the Buckeyes pull within 65-64 on a layup by Micah Parrish with 16 seconds left. However, John Tonje, who finished with 17 points, hit a key 3-pointer to give Wisconsin a 65-57 lead with just over four minutes to go and sealed the victory with clutch free throws in the final moments.

John Blackwell added 15 points, and Steven Crowl chipped in 14 points for Wisconsin marking coach Greg Gard’s 200th career win. Ohio State had a strong second half, as Royal’s 3-pointer capped a 9-0 run that closed the gap to 48-44 with just over 10 minutes remaining. Despite their late surge, the Buckeyes couldn’t complete the comeback and remain one of the most confusing teams in the country.

    USC 99, Iowa 89

USC defeated Iowa on Tuesday night, powered by a stellar performance from Desmond Claude, who scored 25 points. Saint Thomas was also outstanding, contributing 24 points with 9-for-10 shooting, including 3-for-4 from deep.

Wesley Yates III added 21 points, and Chibuzo Agbo chipped in 18. Iowa, despite a strong effort from Owen Freeman, who scored 23 points on 11-for-14 shooting, couldn’t keep up. Payton Sandfort (20 points), Drew Thelwell (16 points), and Josh Dix (13 points) contributed offensively, but Iowa was unable to overcome the Trojans.

No. 12 Michigan State 90, Penn State 85

Michigan State secured a 90-85 victory over Penn State on Wednesday night, with Frankie Fidler leading the way with a season-high 18 points. The Spartans have now won 10 straight games, their longest streak since the 2018-19 season, which ended in a Final Four appearance under coach Tom Izzo.

Penn State continues to struggle, dropping their fourth consecutive game and third straight against a ranked opponent. Ace Baldwin Jr. was a standout for the Nittany Lions, scoring 20 points. However, Penn State faced a setback as Puff Johnson, who had recently scored 15 points, left the game in the first half with a right-hand injury and did not return. Despite Baldwin’s impressive performance, the Nittany Lions couldn’t keep pace with Michigan State’s efficient offense.

    No. 17 Purdue 69, Washington 58

Purdue rallied in the second half to defeat Washington 69-58 on Wednesday night. Trey Kaufman-Renn led the Boilermakers with 19 points as they overcame a 10-point deficit late in the first half. Purdue trailed by eight at halftime but surged ahead with an 11-2 run to start the second half, fueled by Kaufman-Renn’s strong performance.

Despite the loss, Great Osobor shone for Washington, scoring a game-high 28 points. He was incredibly efficient, hitting 8-of-9 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range, while also grabbing nine rebounds. However, his effort wasn’t enough to prevent Purdue from extending their second-half dominance.
