Chris McKenna Talks Replacing Charles Mesure (Exclusive)
In a surprise move, Chris McKenna has taken over the role of General Hospital’s Jack Brennan from Charles Mesure, who chose to leave the soap.
In a statement to Soap Opera Digest, a representative for GH stated, “Charles Mesure opted to exit the role of Brennan. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors. General Hospital looks forward to continuing Brennan’s exciting storyline with Chris McKenna in the role. “
For McKenna, who got his daytime start as One Life to Live’s Joey Buchanan from 1990-93 then popped up again on The Young and the Restless as Mark Harding from 2014-15, it was a quick hiring process. “I got word late on a Sunday night that Frank Valentini [executive producer, who was also the EP at OLTL] wanted me to chemistry read with Laura Wright [Carly Spencer],” he begins. “I know Laura, but I hadn’t seen her in 30 years, so I said, ‘Well, of course, I’ll be there.’ On Tuesday, I went in, and Laura saw me in the hallway and ran over. We hugged and said hello and we caught up really quick and she wished me luck. The last time I saw her, I think she was the pitcher and I was the catcher at a Make-A-Wish softball game in 1994. So, it was trippy.”

McKenna was a teenager the last time he worked for Valentini, who had to adjust to the fact that he’s now a man. “I’ve run into Frank over the years a couple of times, but he still thinks of me as 14 years old,” notes McKenna. “So, I thought I was finally going to get in front of him and remind him that I’m an adult now [Laughs]. As soon as I finished the read with Laura, which seemed to go pretty darn well, Frank said, ‘You were not this good when you were 12.’ And I said, ‘No s**t!’ ”
McKenna reveals that he had no idea who he had been called in to play when he first arrived at the studio. “They wrote a scene for the audition that was in the spirit of Brennan, but they didn’t use the name,” he explains. “So, it was a unique scene just to get the feel of the character and to see how the chemistry was between Laura and me, and it was great. It was a lot of fun reading with her for the first time in forever.”
McKenna found some other familiar faces on the set as well. “It was crazy,” he marvels. “Some of the writers knew me from One Life to Live when I was a kid and said so. And I said, ‘Well, don’t think of me that way now. I was going through puberty on TV. It’s a whole other thing. I’m a cool spy now.’ Having Frank on set again is great, and one of the cameramen, Bruce, was one of the cameramen on One Life to Live and my favorite guy. I had no idea he was going to be there, and it was so great to see him. One of the directors, Gary Tomlin, was there, so I really felt comfortable right off the bat, and it felt a lot like coming home.”
The last time McKenna was on a soap was in 2016 when he did a brief run as Dr. Hayden on The Bold and the Beautiful. Nevertheless, he wasn’t intimidated by the challenge of stepping into a front-burner tale. “I was excited about it,” he shares. “That’s how I grew up; it’s the first thing I did. The lines and the speed were always easy for me because that’s how I learned. My first day, I had 40 pages to do, and Laura very sweetly wrote me a message and said, ‘Listen, don’t be daunted by the amount of pages. I’ll work with you and Eden [McCoy, Josslyn Jacks] will work with you and we’ll read together and it’ll be great.’ And I wrote her back and said, ‘Not daunted. Looking forward to it. Bring it on.’ And it was great. Y&R moved faster than One Life and GH moves faster than Y&R, but I love it. I’m really comfortable there.”
He’s also enjoying getting to know the ins and outs of his new alter ego. “I’m still learning who the guy is and figuring it out, but it is a lot of fun to get a chance to have a meaty character like this,” McKenna notes. “This is the type of character that I’ve been playing a lot the past decade, but a new version. I don’t usually play the guy in the suit; I’m in a tank top in the jungle, that kind of a CIA agent. So, this is a fun little twist on it, the more Bond-ian guy, if you will. It’s a lot of fun to be able to establish a new version of a character and have a new relationship with Laura and learn what’s in store. Every script is really exciting, so it’s fun.”
Charles Mesure as Jack Brennan (Disney/Bahareh Ritter)
In between his soap gigs, McKenna worked steadily on a slew of primetime shows. He credits his daytime experience with helping him succeed in other mediums. “It’s hard to overstate the amount of training that you get doing 100 pages a day, getting new scripts, having a consistent job for years, and learning and getting better,” he declares. “I teach acting classes now, and I tell them how much they can learn on soaps and what a valuable training ground it is and how the actors on soaps are the hardest working actors in this industry and don’t get nearly enough credit.”
His most memorable nighttime gig was the 2014-15 series State of Affairs. “State of Affairs was great,” he recalls. “It had an amazing cast — Katherine Heigl, Alfre Woodard, David Harbour, just to name a few, and I had such a great character. Katherine Heigl had to go to bat for me and we had so much fun. It ended up being only a one-season deal, but that really changed everything for me and my career and the way I was perceived and really ushered in the next chapter where I got to play really cool guys like CIA agents and FBI agents. So, I’ll never forget that.”
Disney/Bahareh Ritter
He will also never forget the importance that One Life to Live played early in his career. “Growing up on TV was a crazy experience,” he reflects. “And now because I’m having all these memories unlocked going back, I hear Bruce’s voice, I hear Frank’s voice, and I feel like I’m right back there again. I didn’t realize how much I’d remember Laura’s laugh, but when heard it, it was I immediately like, ‘Oh, my God, it’s 1991.’ So I feel like there’s been a time jump, but It was really an amazing time back then and it was so important to my career and my life.”
He even heard from his soap mom when he booked his new role. “Erika Slezak [Viki Buchanan] apparently had just talked to Frank, and he told her that I was on the show, and she squealed and was so excited and she wrote me immediately to congratulate me, which is really great,” McKenna says. “She sends me Christmas cards and we exchange little messages, but that was the longest thing she’s written me, and I feel like we reconnected again because of that, so that was really cool. She’s my second mom. So, it’s really fun being back on daytime again with people who knew me back then and having another run at it.”

(NewsNation) — Hoda Kotb’s departure has left a huge hole in the third hour of “Today,” but her former co-host Jenna Bush has reportedly found a replacement.
While chatting with Tina Fey on stage at the Playground Partners Winter Luncheon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Monday, Bush told Fey: “Hoda left and my heart is broken but I’m getting over it because Scarlett Johansson and I have matching earrings so — sorry, Hoda, I’ve moved on with one of the world’s most beautiful women!”

Research shows that chatbots and fake social media accounts get more engagement when they have female personas because people are more likely to view women as warm and approachable, and to see chatbots with female personas as more human than those posing as male. Johansson declined OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s request to voice the ChatGPT AI program and threatened to sue when the company went with what she called an “eerily similar” voice. The crowd laughed, but speculation is rising that Johansson, who clearly loved her time co-hosting with Bush and whose husband, Colin Jost, works at “SNL” in the building, would be a perfect full-time replacement.
For the next month, Bush is still rotating people in and out of the chair. Up next: Kelsea Ballerini, Kimberly Schlapman, Ciara and Wynonna Judd … but don’t be surprised if, in a month or two, Johansson takes the full-time slot.

Lions hire John Morton as offensive coordinator, replacing Ben Johnson
The Detroit Lions have found their replacement for Ben Johnson.
John Morton has been hired to become Detroit’s new offensive coordinator. Morton, who was a senior offensive assistant with the Lions in 2022, had been the passing game coordinator for the Denver Broncos for the last two seasons.
Morton, 55, has been an offensive coordinator twice before in his career, once in the NFL and once at the collegiate level. He led Southern California’s offense from 2009-10, helping the Trojans average 410 yards and 28.7 points per game over 26 contests.
During his lone season as offensive coordinator for the New York Jets in 2017, Morton’s unit ranked 28th in yards (305.3) and 24th in points (18.6). Quarterback Josh McCown, at age 38, was New York’s leading passer. Receivers Robbie Chosen and Jermaine Kearse and tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins were the team’s top receiving options, and running back Bilal Powell was the No. 1 rusher.
McCown (2,926), Kearse (810), Seferian-Jenkins (357) and Powell (772) all had career-high yardage marks in 2017. Chosen’s 941 receiving yards were the second-most of his career, with the 2020 campaign (1,096) being his only season with more.
Morton spent three seasons as a senior offensive consultant with the Raiders after he was fired by the Jets. He held the same position with the Lions until he was hired by the Broncos, who ranked 20th in passing yards per game this season with rookie Bo Nix under center.
Nix completed 66.3% of his throws for 3,775 yards, 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and had a passing success rate of 43.7%, which ranked 28th among quarterbacks who started at least eight games in 2024. The Broncos went 10-7 this season before losing to the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round.
“Johnny’s a superstar now, and there’s a number of things that he did for us last year that are things that we’ve kept,” head coach Dan Campbell said of Morton in 2023, after the former consultant left for the Broncos.
Morton, an Auburn Hills native who graduated from Avondale High School, was an undrafted receiver out of Western Michigan who never appeared in an NFL game but spent time with the Raiders, Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars. He became an offensive assistant with the Raiders in 1998 and remained with the team until 2004, working his way up to tight ends coach.
The University of San Diego hired Morton in 2005 to be its passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. He’s also held various offensive roles with the New Orleans Saints — he worked alongside Campbell in 2016 — and San Francisco 49ers, in addition to the Jets. All told, he has over two decades of coaching experience.
Morton’s hire means the Lions did not go with an internal candidate to replace Johnson, who left to be the head coach for the Chicago Bears. The Lions did choose an in-house option to fill the void left by Aaron Glenn at defensive coordinator, landing on former linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard.
Presumed internal candidates for the formerly vacant offensive coordinator position included running backs coach and assistant head coach Scottie Montgomery, offensive line coach Hank Fraley and passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand.
Most figured Detroit would go with a familiar face, given Campbell’s desire to not overhaul the offense.
Still, fans shouldn’t expect too many changes. Campbell has had his fingerprints all over the offense, even with Johnson, and the Lions led the league in points scored in 2024. Campbell said earlier this month he wanted input from quarterback Jared Goff as the team searched for a replacement for Johnson.
“Is it going to be the ultimate decision?” Campbell said of Goff’s opinion. “No, it’s not. But what he says is going to mean a lot to me.”

The Detroit Lions have made a major coaching move by hiring John Morton as their new offensive coordinator, replacing Ben Johnson. Morton brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers.Morton’s innovative offensive schemes and ability to develop young talent make him a perfect fit for the Lions as they look to revamp their offense and improve upon their 2021 season. With his track record of success in the league, fans can expect to see an exciting and dynamic offense under Morton’s leadership.
This hiring signals a new era for the Lions as they aim to turn things around and compete at a high level in the upcoming season. Emery on replacing Carlos, new signing Garcia and West Ham
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has been speaking to the media before Sunday’s Premier League game against West Ham at Villa Park (kick-off 16:30 GMT).
Here are the key lines from his news conference:
-
Emery was asked if he expects any more incomings or outgoings before the January transfer window closes: “We are open to try to improve the squad until the last moment and we are open as well in case someone is leaving. Of course, Diego Carlos left last week and we have to replace him. We are focusing with the sporting director and the club on which players could potentially replace Diego Carlos.”
-
On new signing Andres Garcia: “He is a right full-back, potential, young player. He was progressing so quickly, and I knew him before. I know how he was doing, as a person as well. We decided to sign him because we were thinking it was a good opportunity, just in this moment – a really good opportunity. He is progressing so quick in his career.”
-
Emery gave his thoughts on Villa’s ambitions: “Of course, for the history of Aston Villa, to try to be a contender, building the team, getting the structure stronger, trying to be contenders in the future for trophies as well, is another objective we have to add. To play in Europe was another objective.”
-
He continued: “We started two years ago, and we are in this process we planned, but the process is through the players, through the mentality as a team. We can be demanding, setting very ambitious objectives. We have a lot of players with a very good mentality – and a lot of players, they have improved a lot in having the right mentality we want, but there’s still work to do.”
-
On facing West Ham: “Very important, those three points on Sunday against West Ham. Very difficult, because all matches in the Premier League are very difficult. Of course, West Ham, they are not being consistent, but they have a new coach now. Tactically, they are going to improve, playing matches, and they have very good players as well. Maybe they have some important players injured but, for us, Sunday is very important.”

Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Has A Far More Difficult Task Than Replacing Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow If He Doesn’t Return
Pirates of the Caribbean has consistently been one of the most lucrative and successful properties in Hollywood for several decades now, with Johnny Depp’s iconic performance leading the many sequels to success. However, with Depp’s involvement in the franchise growing uncertain, it’s unclear exactly how the series is going to continue into the future. Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has been confirmed, but it’s hard to see this sequel/reboot being as much of a hit without Depp. The plans for Pirates of the Caribbean were first announced in 2018, with Deadpool’s co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick attached to the project. When they dropped out, the film struggled to find its footing and was delayed even further when Johnny Depp found himself at the center of a very public trial in 2022. It’s now being suggested that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will be more…
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has been a beloved series for fans of swashbuckling adventures and supernatural curses. However, with the recent controversy surrounding Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow, there has been speculation about whether or not he will be returning for the sixth installment. If Depp does not return as Jack Sparrow, the filmmakers will have a far more difficult task on their hands than simply finding a replacement actor. Depp’s charismatic and eccentric performance as the pirate captain has become synonymous with the franchise, and it will be a tough act to follow.
Not only will the filmmakers have to find an actor who can capture the same level of charm and charisma that Depp brought to the role, but they will also have to navigate the delicate balance of honoring the legacy of the character while also bringing something new to the table.
Additionally, the absence of Jack Sparrow could potentially alienate longtime fans of the series who have grown attached to the character over the past five films. It will be a challenge for the filmmakers to create a compelling narrative that can stand on its own while also satisfying the expectations of fans who have come to love the swashbuckling adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow.
Ultimately, the success of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will depend on the filmmakers’ ability to navigate these challenges and deliver a film that can capture the spirit of the original while also paving the way for a new chapter in the franchise. Only time will tell if they are up to the task.

Fox News announced its successor to Neil Cavuto, who unexpectedly left the network in December. Will Cain, an avowed conservative who co-hosts “Fox & Friends Weekend,” will take over Cavuto’s time slot at 2 p.m. Arizona time, starting on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Too bad. Cavuto was a welcome voice of independence in the Fox News lineup, willing to cross the ultimate line when it comes to the network’s viewers: criticizing Donald Trump. For instance, in October Cavuto blasted Trump on the air for spreading misinformation about federal response to Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.
After 28 years at the network, Cavuto chose not to accept a reduced contract offer from Fox News.
What is Will Cain’s new Fox News show about?
Cain will host “The Will Cain Show,” which the network describes as featuring “conversations with newsmakers from across politics, business, culture and sports, The Will Cain Show will offer a comprehensive look at the news of the day” delivered in “a signature podcast style.”
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
Time will tell, but it certainly sounds different from Cavuto’s more business-oriented show. And the format will give Cain space to espouse his avowedly conservative views, which he has never been shy about.
“As the media landscape continues to evolve, we are always looking to innovate our programming lineup to meet the needs of our viewers, and we are confident the new lineup will best position FOX News Media for the future,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement.
Uh-oh. We’ve been hearing that “continues to evolve” bit from people like Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chief executive, when he announced that he was getting rid of fact checkers at the company’s social-media apps, which include Facebook and Instagram, in a clear effort to appease Trump. Meanwhile, billionaire owners of legacy media companies, like Jeff Bezos, who owns the Washington Post, and Patrick Soon-Shiong, the owner of the Los Angeles Times, have in their own ways bent over backward to attempt to get off on a good foot with the incoming administration.
Will Cain took an unusual route to his Fox News show
Cain took an unusual route to his new gig. He worked at ESPN before coming to Fox News; at the sports network he was something of a rarity — a conservative voice. “Has being conservative helped me since I’ve been here?” Cain said in a Washington Post interview in 2018. “Of course. ESPN doesn’t have a voice like mine.”
He also worked as a political analyst for CNN and as a host on “The Blaze,” the conservative media outlet founded by Glenn Beck.
“It has been an honor to wake up with America these past four years and I am thrilled to apply my background in news, law, entertainment and business to help our viewers better understand the headlines through thought-provoking content and analysis every weekday afternoon,” Cain said in a statement.
Perhaps he will again defend Pete Hegseth, Trump’s pick as Secretary of Defense, against accusations that he has a drinking problem, as well as accusations of inappropriate conduct. Perhaps he will criticize Gov. Gavin Newsom and compare him negatively to Gov. Ron DeSantis for their handling of very different natural disasters. Or perhaps he will continue to celebrate Trump’s victory.
All that seems just fine over on X, whose users celebrated Cavuto’s exit like a cure for the common cold and are celebrating Cain’s ascension as if our long national nightmare was finally over. What a world.
You can’t turn around at Fox News without tripping over another conservative cheerleader for Trump. That’s fine, that’s how the network has chosen to present itself. But it would have been nice to hear from a voice as independent as Cavuto’s. Maybe Cain will surprise us and be just that.
But don’t hold your breath.

#Fox #News #ESPN #anchor #replacing #Neil #Cavuto #UghNC State coach Dave Doeren is replacing offensive coordinator Robert Anae following the 26-21 loss to East Carolina.
NC State coach Dave Doeren is replacing offensive coordinator Robert Anae following the 26-21 loss to East Carolina in the Military Bowl on Saturday.
Anae, who also coached the tight ends and slot receivers, will be replaced by quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper.
Roper, who is in his sixth year at NC State, will remain coaching quarterbacks.
NC State alum Gavin Locklear, who has served as an offensive quality control coach on the Wolfpack staff, has been named tight ends coach.
“I want to thank Robert and wish him and his family the best,” said Doeren. “I have great respect for him and appreciate the work he has done.”
A 30-year coaching veteran, Roper has served as an offensive coordinator for two SEC programs and another in the ACC. He has coached the Wolfpack quarterbacks in the past two seasons and the 2019 season. He led the running backs from 2020 to 22.
“Kurt has done a great job for us and knows what we need to do to take the next step forward as a program,” said Doeren. “He has a great relationship with our players, a great knowledge of college football and the ACC, and I’m looking forward to seeing him as a play caller.”
Roper had been an interim offensive coordinator for last year’s bowl game against Kansas State.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity and appreciate Coach Doeren’s faith in me,” said Roper. “My family and I love NC State, and I’m excited about the future.”
Under Roper’s tutelage, freshman quarterback C.J. Bailey had the second-highest yardage total ever by a Wolfpack freshman in 2024 (2,413), while his 17 touchdown passes also rank second ever for an NC State rookie. Bailey’s 144.0 passing efficiency mark this past season ranks the best for a freshman and seventh-best in school history, regardless of class.
Roper spent 15 years coaching in the SEC. He began his career as a graduate assistant at Tennessee (1996-98) and then coached the quarterbacks at Ole Miss from 1999-2004 under coach David Cutcliffe. He then spent the 2005 season coaching the same position at Kentucky and returned to UT from 2006-07 to coach the running backs.
In 2008, he rejoined Cutcliffe at Duke, where he served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach until 2013 before serving in that same position at Florida in 2014.
After spending the 2015 season as a senior offensive assistant with the Cleveland Browns, Roper went to South Carolina, where he was co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for two years before heading to Colorado.
Roper tutored All-America signal-caller Eli Manning, the 2003 SEC Player of the Year and the No. 1 overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft, during his six years as the quarterbacks coach at Ole Miss. After winning the Maxwell and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Awards in 2003, Manning went on to win two Super Bowls, was twice named the Super Bowl MVP, and was a four-time Pro Bowl selection.
Another one of his quarterbacks, Thaddeus Lewis, spent six years in the NFL after a record-breaking career in Roper’s offense at Duke. Lewis finished his career as Duke’s all-time leader in pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. He joined the Wolfpack’s Philip Rivers as just the second player in ACC history to throw for over 10,000 yards.
In Roper’s last year at Duke, the Blue Devils enjoyed a record-setting campaign, winning a program-best 10 games and capturing the ACC’s Coastal Division championship. His offense set the school record for total touchdowns (60) and became the first squad in Blue Devil history to post 20+ rushing and 20-plus passing touchdowns in the same season.
Locklear originally walked on for the Wolfpack but was awarded a scholarship before the 2016 campaign. He ended up playing in 38 career contests as a wide receiver. After returning from a major leg injury, he earned the program’s Ken McNeill Iron Wolf Award.
“Gavin has been a positive addition to our program since the first day he walked on and has done a great job on our staff,” said Doeren.” I love being able to give former players the opportunity to work at their alma mater and am looking forward to watching his career continue with the Wolfpack.”
The Apex native graduated from NC State with a degree in sports management in 2017 and served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Wolfpack in 2018 before taking on a role as a graduate assistant in 2019. After serving as a graduate assistant, he joined NC State as an offensive quality control coach.
“I am very grateful to Coach Doeren and Coach Roper for giving me this opportunity to coach for the university that I love,” said Locklear.

NC State coach Dave Doeren is replacing offensive coordinator Robert Anae following the 26-21 loss to East Carolina. After a disappointing performance in the Wolfpack’s loss to East Carolina, head coach Dave Doeren has decided to make a change on the offensive side of the ball. Offensive coordinator Robert Anae will be replaced as the team looks to shake things up and spark some much-needed momentum.
Doeren expressed his disappointment with the team’s offensive struggles, particularly in the red zone, during the loss to East Carolina. He believes a change in leadership is necessary to get the offense back on track and put the team in a position to succeed moving forward.
Anae, who has been with the program for several years, will be reassigned within the coaching staff. In his place, Doeren has named assistant coach John Smith as the interim offensive coordinator for the remainder of the season.
Fans are hopeful that this change will bring about positive results and help the Wolfpack turn things around as they continue their quest for a successful season. Stay tuned for updates as the team prepares for their next matchup.
