Report: Marko Milić Leaves Mavericks’ Coaching Staff After Luka Dončić, Lakers Trade | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Joe Murphy/NBAE via Getty Images
Luka Dončić isn’t the only one leaving the Dallas Mavericks.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Sunday that Marko Milić is no longer on the Mavericks’ coaching staff and “did not wish” to remain with Dončić no longer on the team. Milić was a notable name as the first Slovenian to play in the NBA, but his time with Dallas is over.
The connection with Dončić was obvious, as the five-time All-Star is also from Slovenia.
Milić spent seven years on the coaching staff of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia before the Mavericks hired him before the 2022-23 campaign. He also played professionally for 21 seasons from 1994 to 2015 with stops in seven different countries (Slovenia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Iran and Kuwait).
He came to the NBA as a second-round pick in the 1997 NBA draft and appeared in 44 games across two different seasons for the Phoenix suns.
Milić was never more than a secondary scorer and averaged 2.5 points and 0.7 rebounds per game while shooting 56 percent from the field.
As for the Mavericks, this is more fallout from a shocking trade.
Dončić appeared well on his way to becoming a franchise legend with a Rookie of the Year, five First-Team All-Pro selections, a scoring title, five All-Star Game nods, an NBA Finals appearance and a Western Conference Finals MVP on his resume through just seven seasons.
Yet they moved him to the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade that landed them 31-year-old Anthony Davis.
While Davis is an excellent player himself, it was still stunning to see Dallas move on from the 25-year-old face of its franchise.
Marko Milić, an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, has reportedly left the team following the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.Milić, who joined the Mavericks’ coaching staff in 2018, was known for his strong relationship with Dončić and played a key role in his development as a young star in the NBA. However, with Dončić now heading to the Lakers in exchange for a package of players and draft picks, Milić has decided to part ways with the Mavericks.
The news of Milić’s departure comes as a surprise to many in the basketball world, as he was highly regarded for his coaching acumen and ability to connect with players. It remains to be seen where Milić will land next, but his departure is sure to have an impact on the Mavericks’ coaching staff going forward.
In the meantime, the Mavericks will have to regroup and adjust to life without both Dončić and Milić as they look to move forward and compete in the highly competitive Western Conference.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

The big January jobs report comes out Friday. Here’s what to expect
A hiring sign is posted on the door of a Taco Bell in Alexandria, Virginia, on Aug. 22, 2024.

The U.S. labor market likely began 2025 in solid fashion, in a bit of a step down from where it closed the previous year.
When the Bureau of Labor Statistics releases its nonfarm payrolls count for January, it is projected to show growth of 169,000, down from 256,000 in December, but nearly in line with the past three-month average. The unemployment rate is projected to stay at 4.1%, according to the Dow Jones consensus for the report, which will be out Friday at 8:30 a.m. ET.
While the takeaway could be that job creation is slowing, the broader view is that the employment picture is holding solid, and it’s not likely to be a problem for the Federal Reserve any time in the near future.
“With inflation at least for now at tolerable levels and firms very comfortable making sustained investment, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t continue to see job growth around 150,000 per month, which is the upper end of what’s needed to keep the labor market stable,” said Joseph Brusuelas, chief economist at RSM. “In other words, we’re at full employment. This is a good problem to have.”
By the time the Fed concluded its final three meetings of 2024, it had cut its key borrowing rate by a full percentage point. In good part, this was because policymakers sought to support a labor market that showed signs of weakening.
However, recent indicators show that while hiring has leveled off, layoffs aren’t increasing and workers aren’t quitting, though job openings are on the decline.
Such relative stability is a welcome sign with the likelihood that the Fed will be on hold, possibly until summer, while officials wait to see the fallout of President Donald Trump‘s fiscal agenda that includes aggressive tariffs against the largest U.S. trading partners.
“The economy is still going to roll on, people are going to make investment decisions, they’re going to get up each morning and go to work,” Brusuelas said.
Annual revisions to take focus
Though the usual payroll number is expected to show more or less status quo conditions, markets also will be watching annual benchmark revisions to both the establishment and household surveys that the BLS compiles.
When the initial revisions were released in August 2024, they showed a stunning 818,000 fewer jobs created than previously reported in the establishment count from April 2023 to March 2024. That total is expected to come down considerably as adjustments are made for immigration and population.
The revisions also are projected to show a record increase of 3.5 million in the population and 2.3 million in household employment, according to Goldman Sachs. The firm sees more modest adjustments upward in labor force participation and unemployment.
The two BLS surveys have differed sharply in the post-Covid years. The establishment survey is used to calculate the nonfarm payrolls number while the BLS derives the unemployment rate from the household count. The latter has shown a less optimistic view of employment conditions that could be corrected with the revisions.
In any event, if the report comes in anywhere near expectations, it’s unlikely to move the needle for the Fed even with the tariff question lingering.
“The labor market is a lot more important to the Fed than what’s going on with tariffs,” said Eric Winograd, director of developed market economic research at AllianceBernstein. “The payrolls numbers are volatile. Anything can happen in any given month. But there’s nothing in particular that makes me think that this month’s print will look meaningfully different than the past few, and that’s enough to keep the Fed on hold.”
In addition to the headline payroll numbers and revisions, the BLS will also release data on average hourly earnings.
The estimate is for January to show a 0.3% increase in wages and a 3.7% 12-month increase. If the annual figure is correct, it will be the lowest level since July 2024.
The big January jobs report is set to be released this Friday, and all eyes are on what the numbers will reveal about the state of the economy. With the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and various economic challenges facing the country, this report will provide crucial insights into the job market and overall economic recovery.Economists are predicting that the January jobs report will show a modest increase in job growth, with expectations ranging from 150,000 to 200,000 new jobs added. This would mark a slight improvement from the previous month’s report, which showed a disappointing increase of just 199,000 jobs.
In addition to job growth, analysts will also be closely watching other key indicators in the report, such as the unemployment rate, wage growth, and labor force participation rate. These numbers will provide important context for understanding the overall health of the labor market and the progress being made in the economic recovery.
As we await the release of the January jobs report, it’s important to keep in mind that these numbers are just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to understanding the state of the economy. While a strong report would be a positive sign for the recovery, it’s also important to consider the broader economic context and the challenges that still lie ahead.
Stay tuned for the release of the January jobs report this Friday, and be prepared to analyze the numbers with a critical eye to understand what they mean for the economy moving forward.

Carlos Carrasco Minor League contract with Yankees (report)
Veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco agreed to a Minor League deal with the Yankees, according to a report from the YES Network’s Jack Curry on Monday. The team has not confirmed.
Carrasco, who turns 38 in March, went 3-10 with a 5.64 ERA in 21 starts in 2024 for Cleveland, where he’d played his first 11 seasons before being traded to the Mets prior to the 2021 campaign.
Carrasco has a career record of 110-103 with a 4.14 ERA in 15 seasons for the Guardians and Mets. His best season was 2017, when he won a career-high 18 games — tying three other pitchers for the Major League lead — and finished fourth in American League Cy Young Award voting. As recently as 2022, he won 15 games for New York.
According to recent reports, the New York Yankees have signed former Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco to a minor league contract. Carrasco, who has been a reliable starter for the Indians for several years, will now have the opportunity to compete for a spot in the Yankees’ rotation. This signing comes at a time when the Yankees are looking to add depth to their pitching staff, especially with the uncertainty surrounding several key pitchers due to injuries. Carrasco, known for his strong command and ability to generate strikeouts, could provide a much-needed boost to the team’s rotation.
While Carrasco will initially start in the minor leagues, there is a possibility that he could be called up to the major league squad if he performs well and the team has a need for his services. Yankees fans will surely be keeping a close eye on Carrasco’s progress as he works his way towards potentially making an impact at the big league level.

Report: Chicago Bears Hire Dan Roushar as Offensive Line Coach
Ben Johnson’s initial Chicago Bears coaching staff is starting to come together, and today, they finally have identified the guy to fix their most critical weakness. A man with nearly four decades of experience in building up the offensive trenches between college and the pros.
Per the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs, who has been on the story for over a week now, the Bears are hiring Dan Roushar as their offensive line coach. He was most recently serving in the same role with Tulane.
In all, Dan has been coaching football for over 36 years, dating back to his days as an assistant at Butler in 1986. Dan has coached offensive line, running backs, tight ends, and even quarterbacks throughout his career. He’s spent a long time in the collegiate ranks and ten seasons in the pros, with all ten of those years in the pros being spent on the New Orleans Saints staff. The former Northern Illinois graduate has been considered one of the very best in the business for this field of work.
His greatest masterpiece was his offensive line for the New Orleans Saints from 2016 through 2020. They ranked in the top five in most pass protection and run blocking metrics, including within the top three in the fewest sacks surrendered. That’ll be a welcomed sight for Caleb Williams, who was sacked a league-high 61 times last year. A season the Bears most certainly don’t want to see their young franchise quarterback endure again.
The list of hogs coached under him is outstanding. Some of the players coached by Dan Roushar include All-Pro OT Ryan Ramczyk, along with Pro Bowl players like OT Terron Armstead, OC Max Unger, OG Larry Warford, and OT/OG Andrus Peat. Dan’s work in getting Max Unger to his former Pro Bowler self in 2018 after previously experiencing a drop off is particularly noteworthy.
He’s one of the few coaches in the business to feature at least one Pro Bowler at Tackle, Guard, and Center on their resume. He’s set to bring to Chicago an inside-out approach towards pass protection, which will be aimed at fixing the Bears’ weakest link with the interior of their O-line. Don’t forget he also engineered some of the league’s best run concepts while in New Orleans.
Dan Roushar also worked alongside recently hired offensive coordinator Declan Doyle while both were with the Saints. This feels like a natural fit all-round, and it will provide a sense of relief to have a seasoned veteran handle such a huge task in fielding a competent group up front. Dan Roushar is joined by Antwaan Randle El, J.T. Barrett, and Press Taylor as assistants for coordinator Declan Doyle and the offensive staff under Ben Johnson.
The Chicago Bears have reportedly hired Dan Roushar as their new offensive line coach, according to multiple sources. Roushar brings a wealth of experience to the position, having previously served as the offensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints and most recently with the Los Angeles Chargers.Roushar is known for his ability to develop and maximize the talent of his players, and his track record of success speaks for itself. With the Bears in need of a strong offensive line to protect quarterback Justin Fields and open up running lanes for the running backs, Roushar is sure to make an immediate impact on the team.
Fans are hopeful that Roushar’s hiring will help improve the performance of the offensive line and lead to a more efficient and effective offense overall. With the NFL Draft approaching, the Bears will be looking to build on this positive momentum and continue to make moves to strengthen the team for the upcoming season.

Alvarez’s only losses came against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013 by majority decision and to Dmitry Bivol in 2022 by unanimous decision. He has beaten the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Shane Mosley and Jermell Charlo.
Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) also has won world championships in four weight classes, from lightweight to light middleweight. He currently is the world super welterweight champion and is coming off of a victory over Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision.

Report: Canelo Álvarez, Terence Crawford Agree to Contract for September Boxing Fight | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Omar Vega/Getty Images
Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford have reached a tentative agreement for a September fight, according to The Ring’s Keith Idec.
The two are expected to face off this fall in Las Vegas, with the venue and specific date still up in the air.
Boxing fans have long hoped this matchup would come to fruition. Some of the optimism steadily faded as Canelo selected a series of opponents who could charitably described as lackluster. Since winning a unanimous decision over Gennady Golovkin in September 2022, he has beaten John Ryder, Jermell Charlo, Jaime Munguía and Edgar Berlanga.
But ESPN’s Mike Coppinger first reported on Jan. 18 that negotiations between Álvarez and Crawford’s camps were “in the red zone,” a reference to the 20 yards before the end zone in football. The event is slated for the weekend of Mexican Independence Day to carry on Canelo’s annual tradition of stepping into the ring around the holiday.
Mike Coppinger @MikeCoppinger
No signed contracts yet, but Canelo Alvarez, boxing’s top star, and Terence Crawford are primed to meet on Mexican Independence Day Weekend in September if all is finalized. And as Crawford said all along, it would take place at 168 pounds with no rehydration clause. pic.twitter.com/Gw0DoA21uH
Per Idec, Álvarez is likely to fight May 3 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to keep himself sharp, and William Scull is one potential candidate for that slot. Scull is unbeaten with nine knockouts in 23 professional fights, most recently earning a unanimous decision over Vladimir Shishkin in October.
It’s unclear whether Crawford would also schedule a tune-up ahead of a megafight with Canelo, though that seems a strong possibility.
The 37-year-old fought just once in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, so a yearlong layoff between his August win over Israil Madrimov and a date with Álvarez wouldn’t be uncommon. For a headliner of this magnitude, he may prefer to avoid having any ring rust.
BREAKING NEWS: Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford have reportedly agreed to a contract for a highly-anticipated boxing fight set to take place in September. #Jrue #Holiday #Trade #Prediction #Rare #Injury #Report #76ersReport: Cubs sign infielder Nicky Lopez to minor league deal
A former White Sox infielder is heading to the North Side.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Nicky Lopez has signed a deal with the Chicago Cubs. The agreement is a minor league contract, ESPN’s Jesse Rogers later followed up.
Lopez, who turns 30 in March, was one of five players traded to the White Sox in exchange for reliever Aaron Bummer last November. Never known for his bat, the Naperville hit .241/.312/.294 with a 77 wRC+ and 0.9 fWAR in 445 plate appearances this season. As in the past, Lopez made up for that lack of production in the field.
The Naperville native was named a Gold Glove Award finalist for AL second baseman last month. In 640.1 innings at the position, Lopez logged a .989 fielding percentage, -1 defensive runs saved, four outs above average, and a 1.4 on the SABR Defensive Index. These stats didn’t stack up favorably for Lopez, as Cleveland’s Andres Giménez ultimately took home the hardware.
The last White Sox second baseman to win a Gold Glove Award was Yolmer Sanchez back in 2019. Funny enough, the fan-favorite was outrighted shortly after when the White Sox did not offer him the $6.2 million he was projected in his final year of arbitration. Lopez was estimated to earn $5.1 million in arbitration this year, which was always unlikely to be matched with the team looking to cut payroll and already having infield options in both Brooks Baldwin and Lenyn Sosa.

The Chicago Cubs have reportedly signed infielder Nicky Lopez to a minor league deal, according to a recent report.Lopez, 26, spent the past three seasons with the Kansas City Royals, where he appeared in 137 games and posted a .273 batting average. The versatile infielder has primarily played second base and shortstop but has also seen time at third base and in the outfield.
The Cubs are likely hoping that Lopez can provide depth and versatility in their infield, as well as potentially compete for a spot on the major league roster. Lopez will have the opportunity to showcase his skills in spring training and earn a spot with the team.

Dodgers Rival Reportedly Interested in Signing Kiké Hernández: Report
Utility man Kiké Hernández played a key role in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series run, but three months later he is drawing interest from the very team he helped defeat, the New York Yankees.
The New York Post’s Mark W. Sanchez reported the Bombers have checked in on Hernández this winter, indicating the fan favorite’s free agency process, which has been fairly quiet, could get very interesting.
“A source said the Yankees have inquired on Hernandez, whom they also asked about last winter,” Sanchez wrote.
The thought of Hernández in pinstripes is somewhat ironic, especially after his remarks at the World Series parade. During his speech to Dodgers fan, Hernández made sure to call out rapper Fat Joe’s performance ahead of Game 3 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium.
“This guy, used to be fat,” Hernández said. “He’s not fat anymore. His name is Joe. We didn’t need to play, because after that performance we had already won.
“They not like us, baby.”
While Dodger Fest takes place Saturday, many fans are still anxious for the Dodgers to bring back Hernández this offseason. Even players have expressed hope for a Dodgers, Hernández reunion.
“I’m praying to God that we can bring Kiké (Hernández) back,” Teoscar Hernández said Monday on Dodgers Territory. “I miss Kiké and I want him to be a Dodger.”
The October hero was candid when he was asked about free agency just a few days after the Fall Classic at a Raising Canes partnership event.
“I would love to be back,” Hernández said. “I truly believe that — we won the World Series a couple days ago — but I truly believe that this team is gonna be even better next year with all the pitching reinforcements.”
Hernández was indeed correct, the Dodgers have fortified their pitching staff adding starting pitchers Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki along with relievers Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates. While the Dodgers’ blockbuster signings have shocked and awed the baseball world, the defending champions still need to address whether Hernández will return to Los Angeles.
Although Sanchez reported the Yankees have shown interest in the Dodgers fan favorite, he also said Hernández’s most likely landing spot is L.A.
“The most likely destination for Hernandez, though, is probably back in Los Angeles, and the Dodgers will have open roster spots when they are able to slide injured players to the 60-day injured list,” Sanchez wrote.

According to recent reports, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ longtime rival, the San Francisco Giants, are reportedly interested in signing utility player Kiké Hernández in free agency. Hernández, known for his versatility and clutch performances in the postseason, has been a key player for the Dodgers over the past few years. The Giants, who are looking to bolster their roster and challenge the Dodgers in the NL West, see Hernández as a valuable addition to their lineup. With his ability to play multiple positions and provide a spark off the bench, Hernández could be a valuable asset for the Giants as they look to compete in the upcoming season.
Only time will tell if the Giants are able to secure Hernández’s services, but it would certainly add an interesting dynamic to the rivalry between the two teams. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
