  • Knicks to reportedly sign Landry Shamet, now healthy after shoulder injury cost him roster spot out of camp

Knicks to reportedly sign Landry Shamet, now healthy after shoulder injury cost him roster spot out of camp

    USATSI

The New York Knicks have agreed to a deal with veteran guard Landry Shamet, according to ESPN. Shamet actually spent training camp with the Knicks, and was initially considered a lock to make the roster. However, after he suffered a dislocated shoulder in the preseason, the Knicks waived him with an eye on an eventual reunion.

To make that reunion happen, they selected Shamet No. 2 overall in the G-League draft. This way, they would retain his rights and he could rehab under their supervision with the Westchester Knicks. After playing three games and averaging just under 11 points in Westchester, Shamet now appears healthy and ready to contribute to the big-league Knicks.

Where exactly Shamet will fit in for the Knicks remains to be seen. The veteran shooter would have an obvious niche on most teams as a reserve sniper, but the Knicks already rank second in the NBA in 3-point percentage, hitting just under 40% of their triples this season, and with the league’s No. 2 ranked offense, points haven’t exactly been at a premium. Where they actually could improve is their 3-point volume, as New York ranks only 20th in attempts from deep this season. Introducing Shamet to the rotation could compel the Knicks to take more 3s.

But coach Tom Thibodeau runs a notoriously short rotation, relying primarily on his starters to carry his teams through games. The Knicks already give reserve guards Deuce McBride and Cam Payne roughly 42 combined minutes per night, so Shamet may not see much playing time initially. Injuries are sadly a feature of the regular season, though, and having a spare scorer lying around tends to be helpful. With Shamet and Precious Achiuwa now back, the Knicks are only waiting on the return of one injured player, Mitchell Robinson, to get back to full strength.

The New York Knicks are set to bolster their roster with the addition of sharpshooting guard Landry Shamet, according to reports. Shamet, who missed out on a roster spot out of camp due to a shoulder injury, is now healthy and ready to make an impact for the Knicks.

The 24-year-old guard is known for his three-point shooting ability, making him a valuable asset for any team looking to space the floor and add scoring punch. Shamet has shown flashes of his potential in his young career, and the Knicks are hoping he can provide a spark off the bench and help them push for a playoff spot.

With Shamet now back to full health, the Knicks are excited to see what he can bring to the table and how he can help them as they continue to build towards a successful season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • OG Maco Reportedly Passes Away At 32

OG Maco Reportedly Passes Away At 32

OG Maco has reportedly passed away several weeks after he was hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On Friday, December 27, Maco’s manager Poppa Perc confirmed the tragic news in an Instagram Story. “We lost a legend last night,” he wrote. According to TMZ, the Atlanta artist passed away in a hospital in Los Angeles while surrounded by family members. He had been recovering at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center since December 12 after he suffered from a gunshot wound to the head. Paramedics responded to Maco’s home after a neighbor called for help. A firearm was reportedly discovered near the rapper. He was only 32.

Maco’s family previously issued a statement in which they shot down reports about his death and confirmed he was in “critical yet stable condition.” Unfortunately, his condition worsened while he was in a coma and couldn’t be revived. TMZ reported doctors had failed to get proper brain scans after they attempted to remove all the toxins in Maco’s body. His family has not commented on his death yet. They are still, understandably, rattled by the unexpected news.

OG Maco has been in the rap game since 2011. He dropped various mixtapes including 10 Moons and Live Life before he signed with Quality Control Music in 2014. He dropped his self-titled project that same year with his smash hit “U Guessed It” and the remix featuring 2 Chainz. He spent most of 2016 dropping projects even after he overcame several health issues from a horrific incident. In the summer of 2016, OG Maco got into a near-fatal car crash and suffered from multiple serious injuries. He almost lost his right eye. Maco went through several surgeries and made a full recovery from the accident. Three years later, Maco revealed his battle with a flesh-eating disease known as necrotizing fasciitis.

    Rest in peace, OG Maco.

If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org.

It is with heavy hearts that we report the passing of rapper OG Maco at the young age of 32. The news of his death has shocked the music community, with fans and fellow artists expressing their condolences on social media.

OG Maco, whose real name is Maco Mattox, rose to fame with his hit single “U Guessed It” in 2014. He was known for his unique style and raw lyrics, which resonated with many listeners. His music touched the lives of countless fans and his legacy will continue to live on through his music.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to OG Maco’s family, friends, and fans during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

Smoke and fire have been reported near the Bryant Park Holiday Market.

The open-air market, which spans 40th to 42nd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, hosts dozens of artisans from around the world.

Video taken by Eugene McGuire posted on X shows large flames billowing from several stands.

It is unclear where or how the fire started and whether there are any injuries.

This is a breaking news story. Check back for updates.

Just last week, a fast-moving fire tore through part of the Herald Square holiday market, destroying at least four vendor booths and leaving small business owners devastated.

One firefighter sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

FOX 5 NY spoke with several small business owners who were devasted that there stands had been destroyed.

“I was crying,” said Slivus Duspiva, whose booth, filled with handcrafted ornaments, was reduced to ashes and debris.

Duspiva shared with FOX 5 that his family invested more than $10,000 in rent, hoping holiday sales would cover the cost.

  • Eagles News: Nick Sirianni reportedly apologized to Zach Ertz for mocking him after the Commanders game

Eagles News: Nick Sirianni reportedly apologized to Zach Ertz for mocking him after the Commanders game

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Nick Sirianni called Zach Ertz to apologize after a high five led to a post-game separation – Hogs Haven
Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported yesterday that the two had to be separated by Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro. […] “But according to sources close to the incident. Here’s what really happened. Ertz went to shake Sirianni’s hand and could tell the coach was agitated, so instead gave him a high five. Sirianni didn’t like the intensity of Ertz’s hand slap and mocked him because he had only one catch and told him he essentially did nothing to contribute to the Commanders’ win. Ertz took exception and got in Sirianni’s face, but the coaches escort, as always Dom DiSandro, jumped in and held Ertz back and ushered a defeated Sirianni to the tunnel. Sirianni later called Ertz and apologized over a Zoom conference call.”

Eagles sign quarterback to practice squad ahead of Cowboys game – BGN
The Philadelphia Eagles are signing free agent quarterback Ian Book to their practice squad, according to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo. The news has since been confirmed by an official team announcement. The Eagles had an opening after releasing practice squad tight end Kevin Foelsch earlier this week. The Eagles signing Book points to the team having significant concerns about QB availability in their game against the Dallas Cowboys this week.

Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield among NFL stars up for bonuses – ESPN
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. After leaving the New York Giants and signing with the rival Eagles in free agency, Barkley proved that he has plenty left in the tank. He currently leads the NFL with 2,114 yards from scrimmage, which will earn him $500,000. A Pro Bowl nod nets Barkley an additional $250,000, and an All-Pro selection earns him $500,000. Barkley will also benefit if the Eagles go on a deep playoff run. He is set to earn $250,000 in bonus money with an NFC championship win and $500,000 with a Super Bowl victory.

Week 17 NFL picks: Can Bears knock off Seahawks on ‘TNF’? Broncos or Bengals in huge AFC clash? – NFL.com
Why Ali picked the Eagles: I waited as long as I could to make this pick, hoping to glean some insights as to who would, or perhaps more importantly, who wouldn’t be suiting up for this NFC East battle. The unknowns related to Jalen Hurts (concussion) and Ceedee Lamb (shoulder) are particularly challenging to navigate, as neither team’s offense looks remotely the same without its respective superstar on the field. The same could be said for the Cowboys’ defense, which was a mess while Micah Parsons was sidelined earlier this season. But since Week 12, the unit has been among the NFL’s most opportunistic, tied for first in takeaways and leading the league outright in sacks. I expect the Cowboys to carry a massive chip into this division contest, one that’s been building since the beating the Eagles put on them back in Week 10. That desire for revenge helps to keep this game close, but not enough to keep Saquon Barkley and the Eagles’ top-ranked defense at bay for 60 minutes.

Are Eagles mulling kickoff change after debacle vs. Commanders? – NBCSP
Michael Clay didn’t even wait until anybody asked a question about kickoffs and kickoff coverage. At his weekly media chat Tuesday, the Eagles’ special teams coach addressed it before he even took any questions. And he hinted that the Eagles may be considering a change to try and prevent what happened Sunday in the loss to the Commanders. “We didn’t play well enough, special-teams wise, especially in the coverage phase, primarily on kickoff coverage,” he said. “We put our defense in terrible situations. One, starting off the game with a penalty. Not what our standard is and then coming back and letting them have a big return. … Overall, wasn’t up to our standard. We put our defense in a bad spot. Kudos to Vic (Fangio) and (the defense) for getting some turnovers right after those bad spots. But we’ve got to be better, especially as we’re ending this regular season and getting into playoff football-time mode, especially going against Dallas. We all know KaVontae Turpin is a dangerous returner. But not up to our standards when we played against Washington.” It was a bad day all around on kickoffs.

Eagles mourn the passing of Bill Bergey, NFC Champion and member of the franchise’s Hall of Fame – PE.com
The Eagles are saddened to learn of the passing of Bill Bergey, one of the franchise’s greatest linebackers and a member of the Eagles Hall of Fame. He fought valiantly and bravely against cancer for three years. He died peacefully on Christmas morning at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving family. “We are saddened to learn of the passing of Bill Bergey. An Eagles all-time great, Bill was a legendary linebacker who gained the respect of players and coaches across the league for his blue-collar work ethic and hard-nosed play,” said Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie. “He was rightfully inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 1988. Bill exemplified what it meant to be an Eagle in every way, and proudly represented the team in the community well after his playing days were over. We will all miss him dearly and extend our deepest condolences to the entire Bergey family.” Bergey is survived by his wife of 55 years, Micky, three sons – Jason, Jake, and Josh, 10 grandkids whom he loved and cherished every day, and two siblings – his brother, Bruce, and sister, Sylvia. He was a man who loved his family to the end. His bear hugs will be missed.

Cowboys roundtable: Defensive players, the Dallas offense, and the Philly game – Blogging The Boys
Howman: I’ll start with my hot take: everyone is saying Dallas has a legit shot to win if Kenny Pickett has to play again, but I think the odds are better if Jalen Hurts ends up playing. Hurts has been terrible under pressure this year, with a dismal -0.39 EPA/dropback when pressured. That’s behind the likes of Bryce Young, Sam Darnold, and Aaron Rodgers, and just barely ahead of Kirk Cousins, who just got benched. Stopping Saquon Barkley is going to be its own challenge no matter what, but I like the prospects of this red hot Mike Zimmer defense going up against Hurts. […] Tom: The Cowboys know Barkley well. It’s probably the one facet that will determine the game. If Dallas forces Philadelphia to go to the air, there’s a chance. As for a hot take, I think this turns out to be a battle of the back, with Dowdle rebounding in a big way. […] RJ: It is hard to know how this will go with the question mark surrounding Jalen Hurts. Ultimately I think the Cowboys probably lose in a tough fight which will please Team Tank. My hot take is that CeeDee Lamb has a hat trick’s worth of touchdowns in his final performance of the calendar year 2024.

The Miami Dolphins decided to waive edge rusher Shaq Barrett — what’s next? – The Phinsider
The Shaq Barrett era with the Miami Dolphins is over after roughly nine months. ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared that the franchise is waiving the former Super Bowl champion off the Reserve/Retired list on Thursday. According to recent reports, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has reportedly apologized to veteran tight end Zach Ertz for mocking him after the team’s loss to the Washington Commanders last Sunday.

During his post-game press conference, Sirianni was caught on camera imitating Ertz’s route-running, which drew criticism from fans and media alike. The incident sparked backlash from many who felt that Sirianni’s actions were disrespectful and unprofessional.

In response to the backlash, Sirianni has since reached out to Ertz to apologize for his behavior. Ertz, who is known for his professionalism and leadership on the field, has reportedly accepted the apology and the two have moved on from the incident.

This incident has brought attention to the strained relationship between the Eagles coaching staff and players, but it seems that Sirianni is taking steps to mend fences and move forward in a positive direction.

  • Heat’s Jimmy Butler reportedly prefers trade out of Miami before NBA trade deadline

Heat’s Jimmy Butler reportedly prefers trade out of Miami before NBA trade deadline

Jimmy Butler is ready for a change of scenery.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Miami Heat star “prefers” a trade out of town by the Feb. 6 trade deadline. However, he reportedly hasn’t formally asked the Heat for a trade.

Butler, 35, is in his 14th year in the NBA. He’s been with the Heat since 2019. Miami is reportedly open to listening to offers for Butler, who wants a trade to a “win-now contender” above all. The teams Butler is open to reportedly include the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets.

Butler and the Heat weren’t able to come to terms on a contract extension this summer, meaning he has only a $52 million player option left on his Heat contract. According to Charania, Butler does not plan to exercise that option, which means he’d become a free agent in July. He’s currently averaging 18.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists this season.

The Heat have been to the playoffs in five of Butler’s six full seasons in Miami. He hoped the Heat could be his chance to win the NBA Finals and get his long-awaited championship ring, and they got close several times. The Heat made it to the finals in 2020, Butler’s first season in Miami, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers 4-2 in the COVID-19 bubble Finals. Three years later, the Heat were back in the Finals, but lost 4-1 to the Denver Nuggets.

The 2023-24 season was the first time the Heat weren’t in the playoffs since Butler joined the team. They’re currently sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 14-13 record, above the play-in line, but there are still quite a few games left to play.

While several teams have reportedly called to inquire about Butler’s availability, the Heat don’t have to trade him. It’s their only shot to get a return on Butler, who can leave at the end of the season, but with Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro set up as Miami’s future, the Heat could absolutely keep Butler around and see if they can make one last run at the Finals before the Butler era comes to an end.

According to recent reports, Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler is reportedly seeking a trade out of Miami before the NBA trade deadline. The news comes as a surprise to many fans, as Butler has been a key player for the Heat since joining the team in 2019.

There are several teams that are rumored to be interested in acquiring Butler, including the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Golden State Warriors. While it remains to be seen where Butler will end up, one thing is for certain: his departure would be a major loss for the Heat.

Butler’s preference for a trade out of Miami could have significant implications for the team’s future, as he has been a leader both on and off the court. As the trade deadline approaches, fans will be eagerly awaiting any updates on Butler’s potential move and the impact it will have on the Heat’s roster.

Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops.

  • QB Teddy Bridgewater, fresh off coaching alma mater to HS state title, reportedly coming out of retirement to sign with Lions

QB Teddy Bridgewater, fresh off coaching alma mater to HS state title, reportedly coming out of retirement to sign with Lions

Two weeks after leading his high school alma mater to a state championship, Teddy Bridgewater is reportedly returning to the NFL.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 32-year-old quarterback will sign with the Detroit Lions for the remainder of this season. It’s unclear if he will be part of the active roster or signed to the practice squad.

Bridgewater played nine NFL seasons with six teams before retiring after last season, which he spent with the Lions. He threw for 15,120 yards and 75 touchdowns in 79 career games after being a first-round pick out of Louisville in 2014.

Bridgewater then took over head coaching duties at Miami Northwestern, who won the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 3A state title last month 41–0 over previously undefeated Jacksonville Raines. The team finished 12-2 on the season and outscored opponents 262-12 in their five playoff games.

After leading the school to its first state title since 2019, Bridgewater said he wasn’t done with the NFL. He told Rapoport and Tom Pelissero on NFL Network last month that he was looking forward to playing again.

“That’s the plan,” Bridgewater said. “My team knows that’s the plan. We wanted to win a state championship and then coach goes back to the league, see what happens, and then come back February in the offseason, continue coaching high school football. We’ll see how it plays out.”

The 13-2 Lions currently have started Jared Goff and backup Hendon Hooker on their active depth chart. Jake Fromm, who is on the practice squad, is the only other quarterback on the roster.

The Detroit Lions are making headlines once again, as reports have surfaced that quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of retirement to sign with the team. Bridgewater, who recently led his high school alma mater to a state championship as a coach, is ready to make a return to the NFL.

The Lions have been in need of a veteran presence at the quarterback position, and Bridgewater could be just the answer they are looking for. With his experience and leadership skills, he could provide a valuable asset to the team both on and off the field.

After spending time with the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, and Carolina Panthers, Bridgewater decided to step away from the game to pursue coaching. But now, it seems that he is ready to lace up his cleats once again and help lead the Lions to success.

It will be exciting to see Bridgewater back in action and watch how he can elevate the Lions’ offense. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops. #TeddyBridgewater #DetroitLions #NFL #Football #Comeback

The Detroit Lions have added to their quarterback depth.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of retirement and is “expected” to sign with the Lions.

Bridgewater last played in the 2023 season for the Lions. He spent the 2024 season as the head coach of Miami Northwestern High School, his alma mater. He led the Bulls to a Florida Class 3A state championship.

Bridgewater has compiled a 33-32 overall record in his nine-season career, with 15,120 passing yards, 75 passing touchdowns and 47 interceptions while also adding 844 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns.

2023 was his only season in Detroit and he did not attempt a pass for the team. He served as the backup behind Jared Goff on a Lions team that went 12-5 and reached the NFC Championship Game.

He now joins a Lions team in a similar spot as Detroit is 13-2 and fighting for a NFC North title and the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Bridgewater will join Goff and Hendon Hooker in the quarterback room and will aim to capture his first Super Bowl victory with the talented Lions squad.

In a shocking turn of events, former NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has reportedly come out of retirement to sign a contract with the Detroit Lions. After announcing his retirement earlier this year, Bridgewater has now decided to make a comeback and join the Lions as they look to improve their quarterback situation.

Bridgewater, who previously played for the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints, brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Lions. Known for his accuracy and poise in the pocket, Bridgewater will be a valuable addition to the team as they aim to turn their season around.

Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Bridgewater will perform in his return to the NFL. With his skills and leadership abilities, he could be the missing piece that the Lions need to elevate their offense and compete in the tough NFC North division.

Stay tuned for more updates on Teddy Bridgewater’s signing with the Lions, as well as all the latest news, scores, highlights, stats, and rumors from around the NFL. It’s sure to be an exciting season ahead!

Eagles reportedly sign quarterback to practice squad ahead of Cowboys game

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing free agent quarterback Ian Book to their practice squad, according to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo. The news has since been confirmed by an official team announcement.

The Eagles had an opening after releasing practice squad tight end Kevin Foelsch earlier this week.

The Eagles signing Book points to the team having significant concerns about QB availability in their game against the Dallas Cowboys this week.

Jalen Hurts is still in the concussion protocol; he was listed under “did not participate” on Wednesday’s estimated injury report. Kenny Pickett, meanwhile, was listed under “limited participation” due to the ribs injury he suffered in Week 16. Tanner McKee is only the Eagles quarterback on the active roster not listed on the injury report.

If Hurts and Pickett both can’t suit up, the Eagles will have McKee start and temporarily elevate Book from the practice squad to be the backup. If Hurts is out but Pickett is in, the Eagles could still look to temporarily elevate Book to have him available as an emergency third quarterback. In that scenario, Book would only be able to play if both Pickett and McKee are out for the game.

Book previously spent time with the Eagles from August 2022 through August 2023. He then spent stints with the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs after leaving Philly.

The 26-year-old quarterback has logged one career start, which came as a rookie in 2021. He completed 12 of his 20 attempts for 135 yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions, and a 40.6 passer rating.

The Eagles will be hoping to not have to use Book but they’d rather have him than literally no quarterback at all.

UPDATE: The Eagles also released practice squad DB Tariq Castro-Fields and signed RB Lew Nichols to the practice squad.

Nichols, also making a return to Philly, is a candidate to be temporarily elevated as a third running back this weekend with Will Shipley currently in the concussion protocol.

    EAGLES PRACTICE SQUAD

Each player below is eligible to be temporarily elevated to the active roster up to three times in the regular season unless otherwise noted.

    QB Ian Book

    RB Lew Nichols

WR Parris Campbell (zero elevations remaining)

FB Khari Blasingame (zero elevations remaining)

S Andre’ Sam (two elevations remaining)

OLB Ochaun Mathis (two elevations remaining)

    DE KJ Henry

    WR Kyle Philips

    DE Tarron Jackson

    LB Dallas Gant

    CB Parry Nickerson

    WR Danny Gray

    DB A.J. Woods

    RB Tyrion Davis-Price

    DT Gabe Hall

    T/G Brett Toth

    OT Laekin Vakalahi (international exemption)

The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly signed quarterback Jake Dolegala to their practice squad ahead of their highly-anticipated matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Dolegala, a 6-foot-7, 242-pound signal-caller, went undrafted out of Central Connecticut State in 2019 and has spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots. He will provide depth at the quarterback position for the Eagles as they prepare to take on their division rivals.

With starting quarterback Jalen Hurts dealing with an ankle injury and backup Gardner Minshew still getting acclimated to the offense, Dolegala will serve as insurance in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

It remains to be seen if Dolegala will be activated to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys, but his presence on the practice squad adds another layer of depth and competition at the quarterback position for the Eagles. Stay tuned for updates as the week progresses.
