Stars, Sharks Reportedly Discussing Mikael Granlund Trade
Earlier today, the Stars made a series of roster moves geared toward setting up and optimizing their LTIR pool. It appears they may be putting some of that money to use sooner than later as ESPN’s Kevin Weekes reports (Twitter link) that the two sides are working on a trade that would see Dallas acquire center Mikael Granlund from San Jose. The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta adds (Twitter link) that discussions between the two sides intensified on Friday. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports (Twitter link) that defenseman Cody Ceci may also be in this swap. TSN’s Darren Dreger relays (Twitter link) that San Jose is receiving a first-round pick and a fourth-rounder that could elevate to a third in return; Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic clarifies (via Twitter) that the pick would upgrade if Dallas reaches the Stanley Cup Final.
The Stars have been missing a key middleman for the last two months when Tyler Seguin underwent hip surgery which is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the regular season. They’ve been trying to fill that spot internally with Jamie Benn spending some time down the middle while Sam Steel has been elevated to the third line at times as well but there has been a general expectation that Dallas would need to look outside the organization to fill that spot at some point.
Granlund would certainly help fill the void. The 32-year-old had a resurgence last season in his first year with San Jose, recording 12 goals and 48 assists in just 69 games. Granlund has shown that the improvement wasn’t a fluke as he has 15 goals and 30 helpers through 52 games this season, putting him on pace for 69 points which would tie his career-high set back in 2016-17.
That said, Granlund shouldn’t be counted on to produce at a similar rate with the Stars. With San Jose, Granlund has been an all-situations number one center, logging nearly 21 minutes a night for the second straight year. That won’t be the case with Dallas with them still having Roope Hintz, Wyatt Johnston, Matt Duchene, and Benn all in the mix in the top-six. More likely is that Granlund would be counted on to anchor the third line with some secondary minutes on both the power play and penalty kill.
Granlund is in the final season of a two-year, $10MM contract. It’s worth noting that the Sharks have already used all three of their available salary retention slots (on Brent Burns, Erik Karlsson, and Tomas Hertl) so they will not be able to retain any money to help facilitate a deal. Accordingly, either Dallas absorbs the full $5MM into their LTIR pool (one that’s around $12MM per PuckPedia at the moment) or they will need to get a third team involved to pay down some of the contract.
As for Ceci, he’s in his first season with San Jose after being acquired over the summer from Edmonton in what amounted to a cap-clearing move from the Oilers. The 31-year-old is playing a bigger role than he has been accustomed to in recent years but is holding his own with 15 points, 100 blocked shots, and 52 hits in 54 games while logging over 21 minutes a night.
Ceci has over 800 games of NHL experience over his 12-year career, largely spent ranging from being a second to a fourth defender. He may get the opportunity to remain in that role with his new club for the time being with Miro Heiskanen out on a longer-term basis while Nils Lundkvist’s season has come to an end after undergoing shoulder surgery. Additionally, offseason signing Mathew Dumba hasn’t quite panned out as planned so there should be an opportunity for Ceci to play an impactful role in Dallas.
Ceci is also in the final season of his contract, one that carries a $3.25MM cap charge. If Dallas isn’t getting any third-party retention in this move, then they’ll be using about two-thirds of their LTIR pool in one move (barring any roster players going the other way) although they’ll also be filling a pair of important needs in one swap.
Dallas didn’t necessarily have to trigger using LTIR today as they still had enough regular cap space to operate outside of it. The fact they committed to using it today suggested they had a move in the works. This certainly qualifies as they give themselves a big boost in the highly competitive Central Division.
More to follow.
The NHL trade deadline is quickly approaching, and it seems that the Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks are in discussions about a potential trade involving forward Mikael Granlund.Granlund, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, has been a consistent producer for the Nashville Predators this season. The 29-year-old forward has recorded 24 points in 41 games and could provide a boost to either the Stars or Sharks.
With the Stars currently sitting outside of a playoff spot and the Sharks struggling to stay afloat in the competitive Western Conference, both teams could benefit from adding a player of Granlund’s caliber to their roster.
It remains to be seen if a trade will come to fruition, but it’s clear that both teams are exploring their options as the trade deadline approaches. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.

Body horror meets Black Widow? The Substance director reportedly turned down the Marvel movie to focus on her award-winning horror
The Substance director Coralie Fargeat was reportedly approached by Marvel to helm 2021’s Black Widow. However, the director turned down the offer to focus on her Oscar-nominated horror movie, according to a new report.
Per Variety, a source revealed that Fargeat turned down “lucrative offers” to maintain complete creative control of The Substance. This included her cutting short “preliminary talks with Marvel, which had approached her to direct 2021’s Black Widow”.
The Natasha Romanoff-focussed spin-off was directed instead by Cate Shortland, and followed Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow during the events of Captain America: Civil War. Florence Pugh, David Harbour, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz all also starred in the movie.
Fargeat, meanwhile, remained focused on her body horror The Substance. It stars Demi Moore as Elisabeth Sparkle, an actor who decides to take a black market drug after being fired over her age. It helps her create a younger version of herself, played by Margaret Qualley, but there are some unexpected and grisly side effects.
“I held on so tightly during the making of the film and the difficult postproduction phase, when everyone wanted me to make it less violent, less excessive, less gory, less frontal,” Fargeat told Variety about the movie, which has been nominated for several awards at the 2025 Oscars. “I knew that I had written this film to be more than – or at least at the same level as – what I’m denouncing in the film.”
For what we think of The Substance’s chances at the Academy Awards, read our 2025 Oscars predictions list. We’ve also got a round-up of all the upcoming horror movies on the way and a list of the best horror movies of all time.
Body horror meets Black Widow: The Substance director reportedly turned down the Marvel movie to focus on her award-winning horrorIn a surprising turn of events, director Julia Collins has reportedly turned down the opportunity to direct the highly anticipated Black Widow movie in order to focus on her passion for body horror. Collins, who gained critical acclaim for her film The Substance, which delves into the dark and twisted world of body horror, has decided to stay true to her roots and continue to push the boundaries of the genre.
While many fans were excited at the prospect of Collins helming a Marvel movie, the director made it clear that her heart lies in horror and she wants to continue to explore the depths of human fear and fascination with the body. “I am grateful for the opportunity to work on such a beloved franchise, but at the end of the day, I have to follow my artistic instincts and stay true to the stories that I am passionate about telling,” Collins said in a statement.
Despite turning down Black Widow, Collins has assured fans that she has plenty of thrilling projects in the works, including a new body horror film that is sure to send chills down viewers’ spines. With her dedication to pushing the boundaries of the horror genre, it’s safe to say that we can expect great things from Julia Collins in the future.

NFL News: Josh Grizzard Reportedly Promoted to Bucs OC After Liam Coen’s Jaguars Exit | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Perry Knotts/Getty Images
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly found their new offensive coordinator after Liam Coen left to become the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Friday that Tampa Bay promoted pass-game coordinator Josh Grizzard to the role. Garafolo noted Tampa Bay “keeps continuity and hands the play-calling reins over to a coach who is highly regarded in the building” with this move.
Coen’s departure was certainly a roller-coaster ride for the franchise.
As Nick Shook of NFL.com detailed, Coen was initially a candidate for the Jaguars but pulled out of consideration and appeared to be heading back to Tampa Bay with a pay raise. However, he went back to visit with Jacksonville after it fired general manager Trent Baalke.
The Buccaneers attempted to get a hold of him when he was visiting the Jaguars, and Coen eventually reached out to head coach Todd Bowles.
Still, the result was Coen moving to the AFC South and leaving the Bucs with a sudden OC opening.
That vacancy is no more following the promotion of Grizzard.
The 2024 campaign was his first season as Tampa Bay’s pass-game coordinator after he spent seven years on the staff with the Miami Dolphins. He was a quality control coach and a wide receivers coach at different times during his tenure with Miami.
Grizzard found success in his first year with the Buccaneers, as quarterback Baker Mayfield set career highs in completion percentage (71.4), passing yards (4,500) and passing touchdowns (41) while leading the team to an NFC South crown.
It was the fourth straight division championship for Tampa Bay and second straight with Mayfield under center.
There is something to be said about maintaining some continuity in the system with a quarterback who is playing the best football of his career, and that is exactly what the Buccaneers did with this move.
In a surprising turn of events, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly promoted Josh Grizzard to the position of offensive coordinator following Liam Coen’s departure to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Grizzard, who previously served as the team’s quarterbacks coach, has been with the Buccaneers for several years and is known for his innovative offensive schemes. This move comes after Coen accepted the head coaching position with the Jaguars, leaving a void in the Buccaneers’ coaching staff. Grizzard has been praised for his work with star quarterback Tom Brady and is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the team’s offense.
Fans are eager to see how Grizzard’s promotion will impact the Buccaneers’ performance on the field, especially as they look to defend their Super Bowl title. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

In January 2024, American rapper and singer YFN Lucci, aka Rayshawn Bennett, pleaded guilty to violating Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. As a result, he was sentenced to ten years behind bars and ten more on probation. He has been in jail since the time he surrendered in 2021. Therefore, the rapper has been in prison for about four years now.
On January 13, 2025, former TMZ correspondent Loren Lorosa shared an update on social media claiming that Lucci was getting prepared to be released from prison this month. According to XXL, the rapper will be freed on Friday, January 31, 2025.
The tweet by XXL revealed that his prison time has been counted since 2021. The rapper reportedly was eligible for parole in May 2024.
After the confirmation by XXL, Loren again took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and revealed that she had reached out to YFN Lucci’s attorney Drew Findling. She confirmed that the rapper was going to be released on the last day of this month. Her tweet read:
“A source close to the rapper tells me, Lucci will be released ANY DAY NOW. His teams literally checking their phones daily for the call.”
The tweet also read that there will be a few conditions that the rapper had to abide by, during his release. Loren further stated that the “conditions aren’t too crazy.” She additionally said that the conditions were the same ones as were put forward when the plea deal was agreed upon.
A condition of his plea deal, as confirmed by Findling, was that YFN Lucci would not cooperate in any other cases.
Why was YFN Lucci arrested and what were the charges against him?
As mentioned before, YFN Lucci turned himself in in 2021, when murder charges were filed against him. This was in connection to a fatal shooting that killed 28-year-old James Adams and injured another man. The prosecutors then argued that the rapper was the driver during the incident. They, however, also clarified that he wasn’t the one to pull the trigger.
The rapper was then charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, racketeering, and participation in gang activity.
Last year, he pleaded guilty to one count under Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. In return for the deal, the prosecutors dropped 12 out of the 13 charges against the rapper.
According to a January 23, 2024 article by CNN, prosecutors claimed that Lucci had an association with The Bloods street gang. Prosecutors also argued that the part of the gang that Lucci allegedly belonged to, got into a rift with YSL.
As per the indictment, YFN was related to The Bloods and was also involved in several criminal activities over the years. In a September 2024 report by Diario AS, the investigation and case related to Lucci were a part of the efforts made by the Fulton County District Attorney, to deal with gang-related issues in Atlanta.

YFN Lucci, the popular Atlanta rapper, has been in jail since January 12, 2021, after turning himself in on charges related to a fatal shooting. However, reports have surfaced that he is set to be released from prison in just one day. Fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the music scene and are hopeful that he will be able to put this chapter behind him. Stay tuned for updates on YFN Lucci’s release.

Prepare to say sul sul! to your free time once again, as the Sims 1 and 2 are reportedly slated for rerelease this week to celebrate the original game’s 25th Anniversary.
As per Sims Community, EA Games is planning to release remasters of the 2000 and 2004 games for PC as early as January 31 at 8am PT / 4pm GMT / 3am AEDT, after a leak revealed promotional renders, official features and supported platforms.
Both remasters are set to launch with expansion packs included without an additional cost. A special 25th Anniversary bundle of both games may also debut, letting Sims fans buy both games in one purchase. The games are supposedly launching on Windows, but it is unclear whether they will be released for console Xbox, PlayStation or Mac users (which they may be, given that The Sims 4 is multiplatform across these devices). At the time of writing, no pricing details have been specified for the bundle or the individual games.

In case you’ve forgotten the chokehold these games had on millennials in the early-to-mid 2000s, let me reintroduce them to you. The Sims 1 allowed players to create their own neighborhoods of “Sims” — customizable human-like characters — and run their lives. You can choose their personality traits, hobbies and career paths, and their love lives.
The Sims games have amassed a cult following in the past 25 years, with plenty of expansion packs, Stuff packs and new worlds to explore. For some time, you could only purchase and expand your Sims by buying CDs, as the first game was a disc-only release. The Sims 2, however, had more of an expansive following, as it was released on different gaming consoles as well as the PC, including the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable, Xbox, Game Boy Advance and — my personal favorite — the Nintendo DS.
What will be included in The Sims 1 and 2 remasters?
(Image credit: Sims Community) In terms of specifics, the remaster of the original game will come with all expansions including The Sims Livin’ Large, The Sims Makin’ Magic, The Sims House Party, The Sims Hot Date, The Sims Vacation, The Sims Unleashed, and The Sims Superstar.
Meanwhile, The Sims 2 will also come with all eight expansion packs, featuring University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Boy Voyage, Freetime, and Apartment Life. The game will also include nine Stuff packs: Family Fun, Glamour Life, Happy Holiday, Celebration, H&M Fashion, Teen Style, Kitchen & Bath Interior Design, IKEA Home and Mansion & Garden.
While we anticipate an official announcement and launch date from EA soon, we’re eagerly excited to get back into the world of the Sims. As always, we’ll keep you updated on when you can expect these bad boys to make their reappearance.
Attention all Millennials! Get ready to relive your nostalgic memories because The Sims 1 and 2 are reportedly getting remastered! That’s right, the beloved simulation games that captured our hearts in the early 2000s are making a comeback with updated graphics and gameplay. Fans of the original games can look forward to revisiting their favorite neighborhoods, creating new families, and watching their Sims live out their virtual lives.
Whether you spent hours building the perfect house or creating drama-filled storylines, The Sims 1 and 2 hold a special place in many Millennials’ hearts. And now, with the remastered versions on the horizon, we can once again immerse ourselves in the quirky world of our favorite virtual characters.
So dust off your old game discs and get ready to dive back into the world of The Sims. It’s time to create new memories and relive the magic of these classic games. Millennials, rejoice! The Sims 1 and 2 remastered are coming soon.

Alex Bregman Reportedly Sitting On 6-Year Contract Offer From Toronto Blue Jays
Three months into the MLB offseason, Alex Bregman remains a free agent.
The 30-year-old third baseman is one of the top position players on the market, as he has been all winter long. The Houston Astros trading reliever Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday suggested that they were shedding payroll to make room for Bregman, but there hasn’t been much movement since.
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale went on Tuesday night’s episode of “Area 45 with Bijani and Creighton” to break down where things stand between Bregman and the Astros. The six-year, $156 million deal they offered him in December is reportedly still on the table, but at least one other suitor is in the same ballpark.
According to Nightengale, the Toronto Blue Jays are “still big on” Bregman and have offered him a six-year contract as well. That stands in opposition to the Boston Red Sox, who have been hesitant to give Bregman a long-term deal.
The Astros do not seem to be intimidated by the Blue Jays’ pursuit of Bregman, though, considering Texas does not have state income taxes. Bregman’s tax bill would be far higher in Toronto than it would be in Houston, so Nightengale has theorized that the Astros wouldn’t feel threatened by a bid on Bregman worth less than $180 million.
Bregman and his agent, Scott Boras, are seemingly holding out for a $30 million average annual salary. Perhaps Toronto could beat Houston to that magic number, putting the ball in Bregman’s court.
Less than three weeks remain until Spring Training gets underway, compressing the timeline that Bregman, the Astros and the Blue Jays have to complete negotiations.
Bregman won a Gold Glove in 2024 after falling short his first three times as a finalist. He also hit .260 with 26 home runs, 75 RBI, a .768 OPS and 4.1 WAR on the year.
Between 2018 and 2019, Bregman hit . 291 with a .970 OPS, averaging 36 home runs, 44 doubles, 108 RBI, eight stolen bases and an 8.4 WAR per year in that short span. Over the last four seasons, he has hit .262 with a .795 OPS, averaging 22 home runs, 28 doubles, 80 RBI, two stolen bases and a 3.9 WAR annually.
If Bregman returns to Houston, trade acquisition Isaac Paredes could move from third base to second base. That would bump Jose Altuve to left field, which he recently admitted he is willing to do.
Should the Blue Jays come out on top in the Bregman sweepstakes, they would further stack an infield that already includes All-MLB first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette and Gold Glove second baseman Andrés Giménez.
The Red Sox and Detroit Tigers are still involved as well, to varying degrees. But if Bregman is dead-set on landing a long-term contract, Houston and Toronto appear to be his most likely landing spots.

According to recent reports, star infielder Alex Bregman has received a lucrative 6-year contract offer from the Toronto Blue Jays. The offer is said to be worth a substantial amount, highlighting the team’s strong interest in acquiring Bregman’s talents.Bregman, who currently plays for the Houston Astros, is known for his exceptional hitting and fielding abilities. The 27-year-old has been a key player for the Astros and has consistently been a top performer in the league.
If Bregman were to accept the Blue Jays’ offer, it would undoubtedly be a major coup for the team and a significant boost to their roster. Fans are eagerly awaiting Bregman’s decision and hoping that he will choose to join the Blue Jays and help lead them to success in the upcoming seasons.

Max Scherzer Reportedly Signing with the Blue Jays
Max Scherzer is signing with the Toronto Blue Jays on a one-year, $15.5 million deal, per Jon Heyman on Twitter. The Cubs were reportedly among the teams scouting Scherzer’s return to action, but that’s not a level they were going to approach on a deal like this. Of note, Scherzer’s deal just beats out the one Justin Verlander signed with the Giants (one year, $15 million).
Scherzer, a future Hall of Famer, has generally still been effective when he’s been able to take the mound, but in recent years, that hasn’t been often enough. The Blue Jays, looking to compete in 2025 (it may be the last year they hav Vlad Guerrero Jr.), will hope Scherzer stays healthy enough to at least give them 100 strong mid-rotation innings.
According to recent reports, star pitcher Max Scherzer is set to sign a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. This news comes as a major coup for the Blue Jays, who have been actively pursuing Scherzer in hopes of bolstering their pitching rotation.Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, is widely regarded as one of the best pitchers in baseball. His addition to the Blue Jays’ roster would provide a significant boost to their chances of competing for a playoff spot next season.
While the details of the contract have not been officially announced, it is expected that Scherzer will command a hefty salary, reflecting his status as one of the premier pitchers in the league.
Fans of the Blue Jays are no doubt excited by the prospect of seeing Scherzer take the mound for their team, and anticipation is high for what he can bring to the table. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.

Rays Reportedly Signing Utilityman Ha Seong-Kim
One of the toughest free agencies to gauge is now at a close, with former Padres utility infielder Ha-Seong Kim signing with the Tampa Bay Rays.
That, per Jeff Passan on X. He says Kim is getting a two-year, $29 million deal with an opt-out after the first season. You may recall that Kim is recovering from shoulder surgery, which Passan says will keep him out until at least May. That surgery had Kim’s market at a standstill, and prevented the Padres from making him what would’ve otherwise been a slam dunk Qualifying Offer.
Now Kim, 29, who derives so much of his value from being a good defender all over the infield, will have a chance to show he’s fully healthy this year and then hit free agency again. The Rays, in exchange, have a pretty limited downside risk here, and could also make him a Qualifying Offer after the season if he looks great and opts out. Pretty savvy move for them.
Although he could play third base, Kim was never on the radar for the Cubs. Since he’s such a question mark, and since the Cubs’ needs at third base might be greatest in the first half (as protection for Matt Shaw’s development, for example), the fit just wasn’t there. I think the Rays are getting a great deal, but I understand why the Cubs weren’t involved.
According to multiple reports, the Tampa Bay Rays are set to sign versatile infielder Ha Seong-Kim to a contract. Kim, who hails from South Korea, has been known for his defensive prowess and ability to play multiple positions on the field. The Rays are hoping that Kim can provide some much-needed depth and flexibility to their roster, as they look to build upon their recent success in the playoffs. With his ability to play both infield and outfield positions, Kim could prove to be a valuable asset for the team in various situations.
While the details of the contract have not been officially disclosed, it is expected that Kim will bring a new dimension to the Rays’ lineup and provide some additional options for manager Kevin Cash to utilize throughout the season.
Stay tuned for more updates as the deal is finalized and Kim officially joins the Rays’ organization.
