  • Stars, Sharks Reportedly Discussing Mikael Granlund Trade

Earlier today, the Stars made a series of roster moves geared toward setting up and optimizing their LTIR pool.  It appears they may be putting some of that money to use sooner than later as ESPN’s Kevin Weekes reports (Twitter link) that the two sides are working on a trade that would see Dallas acquire center Mikael Granlund from San Jose.  The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta adds (Twitter link) that discussions between the two sides intensified on Friday.  Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports (Twitter link) that defenseman Cody Ceci may also be in this swap.  TSN’s Darren Dreger relays (Twitter link) that San Jose is receiving a first-round pick and a fourth-rounder that could elevate to a third in return; Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic clarifies (via Twitter) that the pick would upgrade if Dallas reaches the Stanley Cup Final.

The Stars have been missing a key middleman for the last two months when Tyler Seguin underwent hip surgery which is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the regular season.  They’ve been trying to fill that spot internally with Jamie Benn spending some time down the middle while Sam Steel has been elevated to the third line at times as well but there has been a general expectation that Dallas would need to look outside the organization to fill that spot at some point.

Granlund would certainly help fill the void.  The 32-year-old had a resurgence last season in his first year with San Jose, recording 12 goals and 48 assists in just 69 games.  Granlund has shown that the improvement wasn’t a fluke as he has 15 goals and 30 helpers through 52 games this season, putting him on pace for 69 points which would tie his career-high set back in 2016-17.

That said, Granlund shouldn’t be counted on to produce at a similar rate with the Stars.  With San Jose, Granlund has been an all-situations number one center, logging nearly 21 minutes a night for the second straight year.  That won’t be the case with Dallas with them still having Roope Hintz, Wyatt Johnston, Matt Duchene, and Benn all in the mix in the top-six.  More likely is that Granlund would be counted on to anchor the third line with some secondary minutes on both the power play and penalty kill.

Granlund is in the final season of a two-year, $10MM contract.  It’s worth noting that the Sharks have already used all three of their available salary retention slots (on Brent Burns, Erik Karlsson, and Tomas Hertl) so they will not be able to retain any money to help facilitate a deal.  Accordingly, either Dallas absorbs the full $5MM into their LTIR pool (one that’s around $12MM per PuckPedia at the moment) or they will need to get a third team involved to pay down some of the contract.

As for Ceci, he’s in his first season with San Jose after being acquired over the summer from Edmonton in what amounted to a cap-clearing move from the Oilers.  The 31-year-old is playing a bigger role than he has been accustomed to in recent years but is holding his own with 15 points, 100 blocked shots, and 52 hits in 54 games while logging over 21 minutes a night.

Ceci has over 800 games of NHL experience over his 12-year career, largely spent ranging from being a second to a fourth defender.  He may get the opportunity to remain in that role with his new club for the time being with Miro Heiskanen out on a longer-term basis while Nils Lundkvist’s season has come to an end after undergoing shoulder surgery.  Additionally, offseason signing Mathew Dumba hasn’t quite panned out as planned so there should be an opportunity for Ceci to play an impactful role in Dallas.

Ceci is also in the final season of his contract, one that carries a $3.25MM cap charge.  If Dallas isn’t getting any third-party retention in this move, then they’ll be using about two-thirds of their LTIR pool in one move (barring any roster players going the other way) although they’ll also be filling a pair of important needs in one swap.

Dallas didn’t necessarily have to trigger using LTIR today as they still had enough regular cap space to operate outside of it.  The fact they committed to using it today suggested they had a move in the works.  This certainly qualifies as they give themselves a big boost in the highly competitive Central Division.

    More to follow.

The NHL trade deadline is quickly approaching, and it seems that the Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks are in discussions about a potential trade involving forward Mikael Granlund.

Granlund, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, has been a consistent producer for the Nashville Predators this season. The 29-year-old forward has recorded 24 points in 41 games and could provide a boost to either the Stars or Sharks.

With the Stars currently sitting outside of a playoff spot and the Sharks struggling to stay afloat in the competitive Western Conference, both teams could benefit from adding a player of Granlund’s caliber to their roster.

It remains to be seen if a trade will come to fruition, but it’s clear that both teams are exploring their options as the trade deadline approaches. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.

  • NFL News: Josh Grizzard Reportedly Promoted to Bucs OC After Liam Coen’s Jaguars Exit | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly found their new offensive coordinator after Liam Coen left to become the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Friday that Tampa Bay promoted pass-game coordinator Josh Grizzard to the role. Garafolo noted Tampa Bay “keeps continuity and hands the play-calling reins over to a coach who is highly regarded in the building” with this move.

Coen’s departure was certainly a roller-coaster ride for the franchise.

As Nick Shook of NFL.com detailed, Coen was initially a candidate for the Jaguars but pulled out of consideration and appeared to be heading back to Tampa Bay with a pay raise. However, he went back to visit with Jacksonville after it fired general manager Trent Baalke.

The Buccaneers attempted to get a hold of him when he was visiting the Jaguars, and Coen eventually reached out to head coach Todd Bowles.

Still, the result was Coen moving to the AFC South and leaving the Bucs with a sudden OC opening.

That vacancy is no more following the promotion of Grizzard.

The 2024 campaign was his first season as Tampa Bay’s pass-game coordinator after he spent seven years on the staff with the Miami Dolphins. He was a quality control coach and a wide receivers coach at different times during his tenure with Miami.

Grizzard found success in his first year with the Buccaneers, as quarterback Baker Mayfield set career highs in completion percentage (71.4), passing yards (4,500) and passing touchdowns (41) while leading the team to an NFC South crown.

It was the fourth straight division championship for Tampa Bay and second straight with Mayfield under center.

There is something to be said about maintaining some continuity in the system with a quarterback who is playing the best football of his career, and that is exactly what the Buccaneers did with this move.

In a surprising turn of events, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly promoted Josh Grizzard to the position of offensive coordinator following Liam Coen’s departure to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Grizzard, who previously served as the team’s quarterbacks coach, has been with the Buccaneers for several years and is known for his innovative offensive schemes.

This move comes after Coen accepted the head coaching position with the Jaguars, leaving a void in the Buccaneers’ coaching staff. Grizzard has been praised for his work with star quarterback Tom Brady and is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the team’s offense.

Fans are eager to see how Grizzard’s promotion will impact the Buccaneers’ performance on the field, especially as they look to defend their Super Bowl title. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • How long has YFN Lucci been in jail? Rapper to be reportedly released from prison in a day

In January 2024, American rapper and singer YFN Lucci, aka Rayshawn Bennett, pleaded guilty to violating Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. As a result, he was sentenced to ten years behind bars and ten more on probation. He has been in jail since the time he surrendered in 2021. Therefore, the rapper has been in prison for about four years now.

On January 13, 2025, former TMZ correspondent Loren Lorosa shared an update on social media claiming that Lucci was getting prepared to be released from prison this month. According to XXL, the rapper will be freed on Friday, January 31, 2025.

The tweet by XXL revealed that his prison time has been counted since 2021. The rapper reportedly was eligible for parole in May 2024.

After the confirmation by XXL, Loren again took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and revealed that she had reached out to YFN Lucci’s attorney Drew Findling. She confirmed that the rapper was going to be released on the last day of this month. Her tweet read:

“A source close to the rapper tells me, Lucci will be released ANY DAY NOW. His teams literally checking their phones daily for the call.”

The tweet also read that there will be a few conditions that the rapper had to abide by, during his release. Loren further stated that the “conditions aren’t too crazy.” She additionally said that the conditions were the same ones as were put forward when the plea deal was agreed upon.

A condition of his plea deal, as confirmed by Findling, was that YFN Lucci would not cooperate in any other cases.

Why was YFN Lucci arrested and what were the charges against him?

As mentioned before, YFN Lucci turned himself in in 2021, when murder charges were filed against him. This was in connection to a fatal shooting that killed 28-year-old James Adams and injured another man. The prosecutors then argued that the rapper was the driver during the incident. They, however, also clarified that he wasn’t the one to pull the trigger.

The rapper was then charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, racketeering, and participation in gang activity.

Last year, he pleaded guilty to one count under Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. In return for the deal, the prosecutors dropped 12 out of the 13 charges against the rapper.

According to a January 23, 2024 article by CNN, prosecutors claimed that Lucci had an association with The Bloods street gang. Prosecutors also argued that the part of the gang that Lucci allegedly belonged to, got into a rift with YSL.

As per the indictment, YFN was related to The Bloods and was also involved in several criminal activities over the years. In a September 2024 report by Diario AS, the investigation and case related to Lucci were a part of the efforts made by the Fulton County District Attorney, to deal with gang-related issues in Atlanta.
