• Houston Astros Star Reportedly Has Been Extended Two Serious Offers

Coming into the offseason, the Houston Astros made it known their top priority was re-signing Alex Bregman to keep the two-time World Series champion with the franchise for likely the rest of his career.

They offered him a contract, but it wasn’t close to what he and his representation were looking for this winter.

So, the star third baseman continued to be patient in free agency.

But, with things getting closer to Spring Training and him still on the market, the likelihood of him getting that megadeal seemed less and less likely.

However, its seems like a lucrative deal could be coming his way after all.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY, Bregman has “serious offers” on the table from at least two teams around the league, something that could result in a bidding war for his services.

The insider didn’t reveal who those teams are, but the usual suspects like the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays are probably part of the mix since they’ve been connected to him for virtually the entire offseason.

There’s also a chance he doesn’t sign for the $200 million contract he wanted.

Based on how late in the process it now is, Bregman’s agent Scott Boras might have overplayed his hand when it came to his star client’s market.

If he signs for something closer to what the Astros initially offered him, that would certainly be a tough pill to swallow and even a slap in the face for Houston since they have stated they are open to him returning.

What comes out of this will be seen, but it seems like that Bregman will officially depart at some point this offseason.

According to recent reports, Houston Astros star player, Carlos Correa, has received two serious contract extension offers from the team. The offers are said to be significant and could potentially keep Correa with the Astros for the foreseeable future.

Correa, who has been a key player for the Astros since making his debut in 2015, is considered one of the best shortstops in the league. His impressive defensive skills and strong offensive performance have made him a valuable asset to the team.

While the details of the offers have not been disclosed, it is clear that the Astros are keen on keeping Correa in their lineup for the long term. The negotiations are said to be ongoing, and fans are eagerly awaiting news of whether Correa will accept one of the offers.

  • Houston Astros Reportedly ‘On Verge’ Of Trading All-Star Reliever to Cubs

The Houston Astros are seemingly on the cusp of sending one of their best relievers out of town.

According to a report from USA Today MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the Astros are ‘on the verge’ of trading All-Star former closer turned setup man Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs. Further reporting from Chandler Rome of The Athletic clarified that Pressly has not to this point waived his no-trade clause, something he would have to do in order to approve any trade.

Because of the no-trade clause, exactly how imminent a deal actually is seems to be unclear, but what doesn’t appear to be a question is the fact the Astros are at the very least shopping the two-time All-Star around.

Pressly had been the team’s closer virtually since they acquired him in a 2018 trade from the Minnesota Twins, but prior to the 2024 season he moved into a setup role upon the huge signing of Josh Hader.

Responding with another solid season, Pressly posted an ERA of 3.49 in 59 appearances, and though the numbers were solid, they had begun to decline slightly from the peak of the two-time All-Star’s career.

In six and a half seasons with Houston, Pressly has put up a blazing ERA of 2.81 with 411 strikeouts and 110 saves in 342 appearances for the team.

Though the numbers started to decline slightly this past season for the 12-year veteran, Pressly is still unquestionably one of the best in the game. Even though he has been moved out of the closing role for the Astros, his 2023 season still showed he is clearly capable of serving as the shutdown man in another team’s bullpen.

In his most recent season as a closer before Hader arrived, Pressly had 31 saves in 65 appearances with a 3.58 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 65.1 innings pitched. Ironically, those numbers were actually slightly better than Hader in 2024, who had a 3.80 ERA, though Hader was striking out batters at a much higher rate than Pressly even in a down year for the five-time All-Star.

Pressly is under contract this season for $14 million before he becomes a free agent next winter and would likely be playing elsewhere anyway, so dealing him now may be a fairly sound strategy for the Astros rather than having him play it out and getting nothing in return a year from now.

By the sounds of it, movement is coming soon one way or another, and the Cubs are certainly a suitor to watch very closely.

The Houston Astros are reportedly on the verge of trading All-Star reliever Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs in a blockbuster deal. Pressly, who has been a key part of the Astros’ bullpen for the past few seasons, is rumored to be heading to the Cubs in exchange for a package of prospects.

This potential trade comes as a surprise to many Astros fans, as Pressly has been a reliable and dominant arm out of the bullpen. However, with the Astros looking to bolster their roster for a deep playoff run, they may be willing to part ways with Pressly in order to acquire some much-needed young talent.

The Cubs, on the other hand, are in need of bullpen help and see Pressly as a valuable addition to their pitching staff. With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, this deal could be finalized in the coming days.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the Astros and Cubs continue to negotiate the terms of the trade.

  • Talks Between Alex Bregman, Tigers Reportedly At “Standstill”

Spring training is now just a few weeks away but many free agents are still unsigned, with Alex Bregman arguably being the most notable. The Tigers are one club that have been connected to him but Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports that talks are “at a standstill.”

At the start of the offseason, MLBTR ranked Bregman the #3 free agent of the winter, behind Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes. Soto and Burnes are both now signed, leaving Bregman as the top guy still out there. We predicted a seven-year, $182MM deal that ended up being sort of a midpoint for Bregman’s negotiations earlier in the offseason. The Astros reportedly offered Bregman $156MM over six years, though the third baseman was trying to get to $200MM.

Rather than meet in the middle, Houston walked away. They lined up a deal with the Cardinals for Nolan Arenado, though Arenado used his no-trade clause to quash that. Instead, they acquired Isaac Paredes from the Cubs and signed Christian Walker to take over at first base. Since then, Bregman has been connected to clubs like the Tigers, Blue Jays, Red Sox and others, but without much apparent momentum.

The Cubs reportedly sniffed around the possibility of a short-term deal for Bregman but agent Scott Boras said last week that Bregman wasn’t considering that path. Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer also recently downplayed the possibility of the Cubs getting involved. “I think likely,” Hoyer said at Cubs Convention a few days ago, when asked if the Cubs’ third baseman is already in the organization. “Certainly, we’ll look to supplement. Infield is an area we’re focused on (for the bench), but I think the likelihood is yes.”

Matt Shaw is perhaps the best solution there but he has not yet made his major league debut. There’s no guarantee he will hit the ground running in 2025, so there’s an argument for adding someone established, but it seems the Cubs are trying to be more opportunistic than aggressive in Bregman’s market.

It makes for something of a staring contest with the 2025 season approaching. It was around this time last year that Boras started pivoting to short-term deals for Cody Bellinger, Matt Chapman, Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery. Boras has apparently made that turn with client Pete Alonso, as Alonso’s camp reportedly pitched a three-year deal to the Mets recently.

But with Bregman still holding out hope for a longer deal, it seems to be leading to the general sluggishness of the third base market. The Tigers have had a fairly quiet offseason, with one-year deals for Alex Cobb and Gleyber Torres being their primary moves so far. They have Jace Jung and Matt Vierling as potential in-house options at the hot corner, so they have a bit of leverage to wait out Bregman.

With Vierling also capable of playing the outfield, Jung seems like the logical choice for third base right now. He struck out in 30.9% of his plate appearances last year but that was a small-sample debut of 94 plate appearances. He didn’t have those kind of strikeout rates in the minors and still managed to draw a lot of walks while making his major league debut. Like with Shaw, there’s no guarantee that he can take the job and run with it but the Tigers might feel they have enough cover to not go crazy on a Bregman deal.

As long as Bregman stays out there, it seems to be preventing other dominoes from falling. The Cardinals came into the winter looking to do something of a reset but they haven’t been able to execute it yet, which seems to be at least partially because Arenado wanted clarity on Bregman’s situation before he’d commit to being traded. That has left St. Louis in a sort of holding pattern where they might just keep Arenado and other veterans into the start of the 2025 season.

Daniel Kramer of MLB.com also reports that the Bregman situation is leaving the Mariners playing a waiting game. While the M’s are not in on Bregman, they are impacted by the situation nonetheless. Kramer writes that the M’s “believe they’re positioned to make a notable move before Spring Training” but are holding on to see if a Bregman deal sparks movement elsewhere, since upgrading at third is on their to-do list.

Seattle has been fairly quiet this winter, with their signing of infielder Donovan Solano to a one-year, $3.5MM deal being their most notable move. Kramer reports that the M’s don’t plan to deploy him at second and he will be in the mix for playing time at first base more than anywhere else. That perhaps suggests Solano will be platooning with Luke Raley, since Solano is better against lefties and Raley the opposite.

For third base, Kramer floats various possible scenarios that could come to pass as the offseason progresses. He mentions that the Red Sox could land Bregman, which could perhaps make someone like Triston Casas more available. Casas doesn’t play third but it could perhaps lead to Solano moving across the diamond for more time over there. Kramer also floats the possibility of the Tigers signing Bregman and making Jung available, or a similar situation with someone on the Blue Jays like Orelvis Martínez or Addison Barger. It’s also possible that infielders like Luis Arráez of the Padres or Willi Castro of the Twins become more available once Bregman is off the board.

Until then, the Mariners are left laying in the cut, though they have explored other options. They had talks with the Cubs about Nico Hoerner and Bellinger, though the Hoerner deal seemed to become less likely when Paredes was sent to Houston in the Kyle Tucker deal. Perhaps the Hoerner trade talks could be revisited if Bregman ends up a Cub, which is perhaps another reason for the M’s to wait. The Bellinger connection was reported earlier in the offseason.

Another path the M’s considered, according to Kramer, was getting Nathaniel Lowe from the Rangers. However, it seems Texas didn’t feel great about dealing Lowe within their division, which led to him being dealt to the Nationals instead.

For now, it all feels like the part of the standoff where everyone has their hand by their holster, waiting for movement. It’s possible that bodies start dropping once someone flinches, but it’s a staredown for the time being.

According to sources close to the situation, talks between the Detroit Tigers and star third baseman Alex Bregman have hit a “standstill.” The two parties have been engaged in negotiations for weeks, but it appears that they have reached an impasse.

Bregman, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, is seeking a long-term contract extension with the Tigers. However, it seems that the team is hesitant to meet his demands, leading to the current stalemate.

Both Bregman and the Tigers have expressed a desire to reach a deal, but it remains to be seen if they will be able to overcome their differences and come to an agreement. In the meantime, fans will have to wait and see how this situation unfolds. Stay tuned for more updates as the story develops.

LATEST: Ukraine attacks Russian oil depot, aviation plant, command post overnight, military says.

A Ukrainian drone attack targeted the Smolensk Aviation Plant in western Russia overnight on Jan. 21, starting a fire at the facility, the independent news channel Astra reported.

Russian authorities confirmed a drone attack against Smolensk Oblast but made no mention of the plant. According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, Russian air defenses intercepted 55 drones overnight, including 10 in Smolensk Oblast.

“Fallen drone debris caused fires on the ground and on the roofs. Windows of residential buildings were also damaged,” Governor Vasily Anokhin said on his Telegram channel. The governor also warned against alleged “fake information and videos” appearing on social media regarding the drone attack.

At least two high-rise residential buildings were damaged as a result of the attack, the Russian Telegram channel Shot claimed. No casualties were reported.

The Ukrainian military did not comment on the claims, which could not be independently verified.

Smolensk lies less than 60 kilometers (around 35 miles) east of the Russia-Belarus border and some 270 kilometers (170 miles) north of Ukraine. The city’s aviation plant is involved in the production and modernization of the Su-25 military aircraft, said Andrii Kovalenko, the counter-disinformation chief at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.

The same night, an oil depot in the village of Lisky in Voronezh Oblast caught fire due to fallen drone debris, Governor Alexander Gusev said. Ukrainian drones previously attacked the facility on Jan. 16.

Ukrainian long-range drones regularly target Russian military and industrial facilities to undermine Moscow’s ability to wage its full-scale war in Ukraine.

In a shocking turn of events, Ukrainian drones have reportedly launched a daring attack on a Russian aviation plant located in Smolensk. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, has left the plant severely damaged and several Russian aircraft destroyed.

According to eyewitness accounts, a squadron of Ukrainian drones descended on the plant, unleashing a barrage of missiles and bombs. The attack was swift and precise, targeting key infrastructure and aircraft on the premises. The plant, which is known for producing military aircraft for the Russian armed forces, has been left in ruins.

The Ukrainian government has yet to officially claim responsibility for the attack, but many believe it to be a retaliatory strike in response to escalating tensions between the two countries. The Russian government has condemned the attack, vowing to retaliate with full force.

As tensions continue to rise between Ukraine and Russia, the situation remains highly volatile. The attack on the aviation plant in Smolensk marks a dangerous escalation in the conflict, with both sides seemingly unwilling to back down.

  • Chicago Cubs Reportedly Signing Veteran Utilityman Jon Berti

The Chicago Cubs have finally added a big league contract to their bench, signing veteran utilityman Jon Berti to a one-year deal.

Berti, whose 35th birthday is today, was something of late-arriving big leaguer, not establishing himself as a bench guy until he was already 29. But, since then, he has usually been a nice contributor:

A split-neutral righty, Jon Berti has a 95 wRC+ for his career, and he can play any position reasonably well (including shortstop as recently as 2023). He missed most of 2024 with a calf injury, and, given his age, that’s probably the biggest concern heading into 2025: can he still perform at the level he was at in the years before 2024, or was that the start of a decline? Hence a relatively modest deal.

On the one hand, I like the versatility that Berti brings to a Craig-Counsell-led team, and if he’s healthy and doesn’t fall off a cliff, Berti can help the Cubs in a lot of ways.

On the other hand … is this the main bench addition? Like, is this the guy who offers protection at third base for Matt Shaw’s development? At second base for Nico Hoerner’s health? Are we staring down the barrel of a Berti, Vidal Brujan, Alexander Canario, Other Catcher bench?

I’m gonna have to think on this for a moment. More on Berti soon.

The Chicago Cubs have reportedly signed versatile utility player Jon Berti to bolster their roster for the upcoming season. Berti, who has experience playing multiple positions including infield and outfield, is expected to provide depth and flexibility for the Cubs.

The 31-year-old veteran is known for his speed on the basepaths and solid defense, making him a valuable asset for any team. Berti has spent the past few seasons with the Miami Marlins, where he showcased his abilities as a reliable utility player.

With the Cubs looking to add depth to their roster, Berti’s signing is seen as a smart move to strengthen their lineup. His ability to play multiple positions will give the team more options and flexibility in different game situations.

Cubs fans are excited to see what Berti can bring to the team and are hopeful that his addition will help the team compete at a high level in the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates as the Cubs continue to make moves to improve their roster.

  • Jeannie Mai Reportedly Calls the Police on Jeezy After Being Denied Entry to His Georgia Home

Jeannie Mai and Jeezy’s divorce may be finalized, but the former lovers are still very much at odds.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch Weekly, the commentator visited Jeezy’s Georgia home on December 9th, 2024, to collect personal belongings but had to call the Atlanta Police Department when she was denied access.

The “Trap or Die” star had previously packed his ex-wife’s items, including awards and personal effects, into boxes in his garage. While his lawyer claimed Jeezy was “perfectly fine” with Mai retrieving her things, he expressed concerns about her being in his home, citing fears of privacy invasion.

“[Jeannie] is angry about the parties’ divorce and she is revengeful,” Jeezy’s lawyer alleged, adding, “[Her presence] would absolutely destroy [Jeezy’s] peace and tranquility.”

Mai’s legal team refuted these claims, stating their client only sought to collect her belongings. Upon arrival, the former “The Real” host alleged Jeezy’s house manager refused entry despite prior confirmation. Police intervened, but further obstacles arose, including demands for Mai to sign a nondisclosure agreement.

When she finally accessed the garage, Mai claimed to have found her belongings damaged.

“[The] boxes were wet, with water having soaked through, damaging personal items,” her lawyer noted, adding that mouse traps had ruined some contents. The mom of one denied being vengeful, accusing Jeezy of contempt for violating court orders.

“The only party that seems to be angry or revengeful is [Jeezy],” her lawyer wrote.

The judge has yet to rule on the ongoing disputes. Neither Jeezy nor Mai have commented on the matter.

  • NFL News: John Spytek, Raiders Reportedly Finalizing GM Contract After Telesco Exit | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

TAMPA, FL - AUGUST 13: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Vice President of Player Personnel John Spytek watches the action on the field before the preseason game between the Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 13, 2022 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Looking for a fresh start, the Las Vegas Raiders have landed on John Spytek to be their next general manager.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant general manager is finalizing an agreement with the team.

    Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter

John Spytek and Tom Brady both played at Michigan in 1999, then were together in Tampa when Brady led the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl title. Now they join forces again in Las Vegas. https://t.co/s8uKsj0KiW

This marks the second straight offseason the Raiders went through a search for a new head coach and general manager. Last year, they opted to retain Antonio Pierce as head coach after he had a successful stint in an interim role.

The Raiders surprised many by going with former Los Angeles Chargers general manager Tom Telesco, who was fired by L.A. late in the 2023 season after a 63-21 loss to Vegas, to be their GM in 2024.

Neither decision wound up working out, as the Raiders finished last in the AFC West with a 4-13 record. Both Telesco and Pierce were fired by the team shortly after the end of the regular season.

The Athletic’s Tashan Reed noted the Raiders initially planned to keep Telesco, but the opportunity “to start with a clean slate” by having a new coach and GM on the same timeline proved to be appealing.

Even though the Telesco era was brief and largely unsuccessful, he did nail his only first-round pick by selecting Brock Bowers with the No. 13 selection in the 2024 draft. The 22-year-old became the fourth tight end in NFL history to earn All-Pro first-team honors as a rookie.

There aren’t many foundational pieces currently on the roster in Vegas, but Bowers is certainly one. Maxx Crosby could be another one, but he hasn’t sounded thrilled about the constant coach and front-office turnover.

It could also be more beneficial for Spytek to trade a player of immense value like Crosby, who could bring back multiple first-round picks, to accelerate the timeline of this latest rebuild.

Regardless of everything else the Raiders do, they have to figure out an answer at quarterback. They’re already in a difficult position playing in the same division as the Kansas City Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid; Los Angeles Chargers with Justin Herbert and Jim Harbaugh; and Denver Broncos with Bo Nix and Sean Payton.

The Raiders have had seven different quarterbacks start a game since the 2022 season, including five over the past two years after releasing Derek Carr in February 2023.

Spytek has a difficult task ahead of him to get the Raiders back on track, but hopefully he will be given some time to at least see their plan through for an organization that has lacked stability for a long time.

The Raiders are getting someone with a wealth of NFL knowledge and experience to run their front office.

Spytek has been working in the league for 21 seasons since he was hired as an operations intern by the Detroit Lions in 2004. He’s had jobs with five different organizations ranging from an intern to pro scout to director of college scouting.

The most recent job for Spytek was as assistant general manager for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the past two seasons. He was in the Bucs front office when Tom Brady joined the team in 2020.

Fixing the Raiders is a monumental task, but Spytek has a strong track record of team building from his eight seasons with the Bucs.

The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly finalizing a contract with John Spytek to become their new general manager after Tom Telesco’s exit. Spytek, who currently serves as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ director of player personnel, is expected to bring his expertise in talent evaluation and roster building to the Raiders.

This news comes after Telesco’s surprising departure from the Raiders, leaving the team in need of a new leader in the front office. Spytek’s potential hiring has generated a buzz among football fans and analysts, as he is regarded as a rising star in the NFL personnel world.

  • Ryan Gosling Reportedly In Talks To Lead New Star Wars Movie

Well here’s something I didn’t expect: A new report claims that Ryan Gosling—yes that very famous one from Barbie—is in negotiations to star in an upcoming Star Wars movie from Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy. And it sounds like his involvement has sent the project into hyperspace at Lucasfilm.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter on January 22, Ryan Gosling is currently in talks with Lucasfilm and Disney to headline a standalone Star Wars movie from Levy. Apparently, according to sources who spoke to the outlet, Gosling’s involvement with the project wasn’t planned and happened suddenly, leading to some schedule changes.

Levy was reportedly looking to direct a boy band movie with Paramount. The movie would have starred Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, recreating the same core group that helped make Deadpool & Wolverine the second biggest movie of 2024 at the box office. But that all changed when Gosling got involved with Levy’s in-development Star Wars project. The Hollywood Reporter says that if Gosling makes a deal with Lucasfilm, Levy’s Star Wars movie could start rolling as early as this fall.

The outlet didn’t have any details to share about what Levy’s Star Wars movie will be about, when it will be set, or what part of the sci-fi galaxy it will feature. Levy has been planning the Star Wars movie since at least 2022, and Jonathan Tropper has been working on the script for over a year. It’s reportedly to be a standalone movie, not connected to the Skywalker Saga.

Of course, if you’ve been following Star Wars movie news for the last few years, then you know that there have been many, many, many announced and reported movies that have been stuck in development, canceled, reworked, or shelved since the last film—2019’s The Rise of Skywalker—arrived in theaters. But Star Wars movies are returning to our galaxy. Next year’s The Mandalorian & Grogu movie wrapped filming last year and is set to arrive in May 2026.

  • Patriots Reportedly Request To Interview Coach With Strong Mike Vrabel Ties

The New England Patriots reportedly are keeping one coordinator in place, but are in search for two more.

And it appears another name can be added to the defensive coordinator candidates list.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported Monday night that the Patriots requested permission to interview Miami Dolphins outside linebackers coach Ryan Crow for their vacant defensive coordinator position. Crow is well-known to new head coach Mike Vrabel, spending six seasons on Vrabel’s staff with the Tennessee Titans.

Vrabel gave Crow his first NFL job, coming in 2018 as a defensive assistant coach with the Titans. Crow stayed alongside Vrabel throughout his tenure at the helm of the Titans and Crow seemed to make an impression since he received a couple of promotions.

After serving as a defensive assistant for two seasons, Crow was elevated to assistant special teams coach before taking over as outside linebackers coach for three seasons.

Crow is the first-known candidate to be interviewed to be Vrabel’s defensive coordinator. But just like the Patriots are doing for their offensive coordinator search, they will likely talk to several more coaches for the job before coming to a decision.

According to recent reports, the New England Patriots have requested to interview a coach with strong ties to former Patriots linebacker and current Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel.

The Patriots are looking to fill a coaching vacancy on their staff and are reportedly interested in bringing in someone who has worked closely with Vrabel in the past. Vrabel, who played for the Patriots from 2001 to 2008, has gone on to have success as a coach in the NFL, leading the Titans to back-to-back playoff appearances.

The identity of the coach in question has not been revealed, but sources indicate that they have a strong relationship with Vrabel and could bring valuable insight and experience to the Patriots’ coaching staff.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Patriots continue their search for a new coach with strong ties to Mike Vrabel.
