Patriots reportedly targeting Lions’ Terrell Williams as next DC
Another Detroit Lions assistant is reportedly close to receiving a promotion from a different team.
According to a CBS report on Tuesday, the New England Patriots are “targeting” Lions defensive line coach and defensive run game coordinator Terrell Williams as their new defensive coordinator under first-year coach Mike Vrabel. Williams joined the Lions as defensive line coach last offseason after spending 2018-23 in the same role for the Tennessee Titans, where he used to work under Vrabel.
Williams spent six seasons with the Titans and previously coached the defensive line for the Oakland Raiders and Miami Dolphins, where he spent one season working with Lions head coach Dan Campbell, after spending over a decade as a defensive line coach for college teams.
“I’ve known Terrell and long, long time and I just think that he’s an absolutely excellent coach, and (assistant defensive line coach) Cam (Davis) continues to grow as a coach as well and they work well together,” Campbell said in December. “I think they give our guys the best opportunity to have success in a game which is what you want.”
He joined the Lions’ staff under defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn last February intending to improve Detroit’s pass rush. In 2024, the Lions had the sixth-ranked rushing defense (98.4 rushing yards allowed per game, a slight fall off from 2023’s second-ranked rushing unit at 88.5 rushing yards allowed per game), and finished with 37 sacks as a team.
The Lions’ 37 sacks tied for 23rd-most in the NFL, along with the San Francisco 49ers. The Lions did not have a single pass rusher reach double-digit sacks after spending most of the season without their top pass rusher, Aidan Hutchinson, who broke his leg in Week 6. Detroit also lost its other starting defensive end, Marcus Davenport, in Week 3 and top defensive tackle, Alim McNeill, in Week 15 to season-ending injuries.
LOOKING AHEAD:Ben Johnson replacement: 5 candidates to watch for Detroit Lions offensive coordinator
By the end of the year, the Lions’ pass rush mainly consisted of players who were not on the roster at the beginning of the season alongside options like defensive end Josh Paschal and defensive tackle D.J. Reader. In the season-ending loss to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round, the Lions had zero sacks and two quarterback hits on rookie phenom Jayden Daniels.
Lions coaches are now free to accept other coaching positions now that the Lions’ season is over. Former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has already accepted the Chicago Bears head coaching job and Glenn is one of the leading finalists for other head coaching vacancies such as the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints. Offensive line coach Hank Fraley has also reportedly interviewed for the Seattle Seahawks’ open offensive coordinator position.

According to recent reports, the New England Patriots are eyeing Detroit Lions’ defensive backs coach, Terrell Williams, as their next defensive coordinator. Williams has been praised for his work with the Lions’ secondary and has a reputation for developing young talent. The Patriots are in need of a new defensive coordinator after Matt Patricia was fired earlier this season. Williams could bring a fresh perspective to the Patriots’ defense and help revitalize a unit that has struggled at times this season.
While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, the Patriots’ interest in Williams is definitely something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

Bengals Reportedly Down to Two Defensive Coordinator Finalists
Cleveland Browns: Tommy Rees Is Elevated to Offensive Coordinator
The Browns have hired their next offensive coordinator from within. Tommy Rees has been elevated from Tight Ends Coach/Pass Game Specialist to Offensive Coordinator, the team announced.
“Tommy has an incredible football mind,” Head Coach Kevin Stefanski said. “He is extremely bright and has been around the game his entire life. Before joining our staff, he established himself as one of the top assistant coaches in college football. Last season, he transitioned into our tight end room and with our pass game, and he didn’t miss a beat.
“Due to injuries, there was a lot of uncertainty at tight end, but Tommy did a phenomenal job with that group and always had his players ready for gameday, despite, in some cases, only being with the team for a short period of time.”
Stefanski did not announce whether he or Rees would call plays next season. Last season, Stefanski called plays for the first seven games, then handed those duties to Ken Dorsey, who was fired after the season.
According to recent reports, the Cincinnati Bengals are narrowing down their search for a new defensive coordinator to just two finalists. The team has been on the lookout for a new defensive leader after parting ways with their previous coordinator at the end of the season. The two finalists for the position are said to be highly respected within the coaching community and have a track record of success in developing strong defensive units. The Bengals are looking for someone who can come in and make an immediate impact on their defense, which struggled at times during the previous season.
It will be interesting to see which candidate the Bengals ultimately choose to lead their defense in the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Bears reportedly finalizing deal to hire Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson
Ben Johnson was the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator the past three seasons. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images) Ben Johnson has been on the list of just about every NFL team that had a head-coaching vacancy recently. Finally, Johnson is making his move.
The Chicago Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Johnson as their next head coach, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Per the report, Johnson is targeting former New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen as his defensive coordinator.
Johnson, who is 38 years old, quickly made a name for himself as he worked up the NFL coaching ladder. He spent seven seasons on the Miami Dolphins’ staff (Dan Campbell was part of that staff when Johnson was there) and then moved to the Lions. In Detroit he worked up from offensive quality control coach to tight ends coach to passing game coordinator to offensive coordinator over the course of five seasons. Then in his three seasons as Lions offensive coordinator he became the hottest name among NFL assistants as a future head coach.
Last offseason Johnson was getting interviews but decided to stay with the Lions for at least another season, running their offense. Detroit scored 564 points this season, which led the NFL, and the Lions got the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Johnson was a popular name again in the head-coaching interview cycle.
Teams were looking for a Sean McVay-type of hire when they were courting Johnson, hoping to get a young offensive guru who hadn’t yet had a chance to be a head coach. His work with the Lions, getting fantastic production out of Jared Goff with a balanced offense that was dominant in the passing and running game, was impressive.
Whether Johnson can make a successful transition to being a head coach is unknown, of course. But Johnson will get his shot to make an even bigger name for himself.
According to multiple sources, the Chicago Bears are reportedly finalizing a deal to hire Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. The move comes after the Bears fired head coach Matt Nagy following a disappointing season.Johnson, who has been with the Lions since 2019, is highly regarded for his work with quarterback Jared Goff and the Detroit offense. He is known for his innovative play-calling and ability to tailor his schemes to his players’ strengths.
Many Bears fans are excited about the potential of Johnson bringing his offensive expertise to Chicago and rejuvenating the team’s struggling offense. With a young quarterback in Justin Fields and talented skill position players, Johnson could be the spark the Bears need to turn things around.
Stay tuned for official confirmation from the Bears organization on this reported hiring. In the meantime, Bears fans are hopeful that Ben Johnson can help lead the team to success in the upcoming seasons.

Mavs Reportedly Seek Impact Perimeter Defender, Make Gafford Available
The Mavericks, who remain on the look for an impact perimeter defender, have dangled center Daniel Gafford in those talks, according to Christian Clark of The Athletic.
Clark first reported at the start of the month that Dallas was exploring the idea of pursuing a player who could upgrade the club’s perimeter defense. He mentioned Pelicans forward Herbert Jones at that time, but acknowledged that New Orleans was unlikely to move him.
Jones is now out indefinitely with a shoulder ailment, but prior to that injury, the Pelicans’ asking price for him was “extraordinarily high,” according to Clark, who doesn’t identify any other specific players the Mavs may be eyeing, noting that the options available on the trade market for a needle-moving impact defender may be limited.
Still, Clark’s suggestion that Dallas is open to making Gafford available is noteworthy. The Mavs gave up a late 2024 first-round pick for the veteran big man at last season’s deadline and he helped the team make a run to the NBA Finals, starting all 21 playoff games in the spring.
As effective as Gafford has been since arriving in Dallas, he’s essentially a backup center, averaging a modest 20.0 minutes per game this season as he has taken a back seat to rising second-year big man Dereck Lively. Gafford is contributing 11.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per night, with a .706 FG%. The Mavs have a -2.0 net rating in his minutes, compared to a +8.1 mark when Lively is on the floor.
It’s also worth mentioning that if Dallas needs to aggregate contracts to acquire a player earning $20MM or more, Gafford’s $13.4MM cap hit could be useful. Outside of Maxi Kleber ($11MM), every other Maverick earning above $4MM is a regular part of the rotation when healthy.
Gafford is under contract for one season beyond 2024/25, with a $14.4MM guaranteed salary for ’25/26. He’s currently back in the Mavs’ starting lineup while Lively recovers a right ankle sprain, which will sideline him again on Friday vs. Oklahoma City.
According to recent reports, the Dallas Mavericks are actively seeking an impact perimeter defender to bolster their defense for the upcoming season. The team is reportedly looking to improve on the defensive end, particularly on the perimeter, where they struggled at times last season. In order to acquire a top-tier defender, the Mavericks are said to be making center Daniel Gafford available in trade talks. Gafford, who was acquired by the Mavericks in a trade last season, has shown promise as a rim protector but may be expendable in order to address the team’s defensive needs on the perimeter.
With a talented core led by Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, the Mavericks are looking to build a stronger defensive identity to complement their potent offense. By targeting an impact perimeter defender, the team hopes to improve their chances of making a deep playoff run in the highly competitive Western Conference.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Mavericks’ pursuit of a defensive upgrade as the NBA offseason progresses.

Saudi Arabian outlet VGA4A has reported that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has been banned in the region due to an unstoppable LGBTQ sequence.
This isn’t the first time that the country has banned a video game for its inclusion of LGBTQ content. The Last of Us Part II was refused release in Saudi Arabia due to it featuring a same-sex relationship, as well as its inclusion of a trans character.

Right now it is not known what the scene in question is, but we do know that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 features sex and nudity, so there’s no reason why this won’t also feature LGBTQ content. However, right now an official statement from developer Warhorse Studios hasn’t been made yet, so keep that in mind.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is slated for release on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on February 11, 2025. Earlier this week, Warhorse Studios’ Daniel Vavra claimed that the game’s script is the longest ever in a video game, including current record holder Baldur’s Gate III.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Reportedly Banned In Saudi Arabia Due To Unskippable LGBTQ SceneReports have surfaced that the highly anticipated sequel to Kingdom Come Deliverance has been banned in Saudi Arabia due to a controversial unskippable LGBTQ scene. The scene in question reportedly depicts a romantic relationship between two male characters, sparking outrage among conservative groups in the country.
The ban comes as a disappointment to many fans of the popular RPG series, as Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 was highly anticipated and expected to be a major hit upon its release. The decision to ban the game has sparked debate among gamers and activists, with some arguing that censorship of LGBTQ content is a violation of free speech and artistic expression.

Topline
Bitcoin led a broader cryptocurrency market rally Friday, boosted by encouraging economic data and reports about what President-elect Donald Trump may do to bolster the digital asset when he takes office next week.
Trump speaks at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in July.
Key Facts
Bitcoin rose to more than $105,000 by early afternoon, notching its highest price since Dec. 18.
The world’s largest crypto token is up more than 15% from its two-month low of below $90,000 hit Monday.
Other major digital assets have also jumped from their Monday lows, including ether, which is up 17% from the start of the week, XRP, which is up 38%, and Solana, which is up 28%.
The recovery is part of a broader bounce across financial markets after a Wednesday inflation report reignited interest rate cut prospects, sending the U.S. stock benchmark S&P 500, which is up 28% since Tuesday, toward its best week in more than two months.
And reports about what Trump may pursue shortly upon his Monday inauguration further accelerated the rally.
Trump plans to sign an executive order designating crypto a national priority and establishing a crypto advisory council, Bloomberg reported Thursday afternoon, and a much awaited national bitcoin stockpile could be a part of the order signed as soon as Monday, according to the report.
The New York Times also reported Thursday that Trump’s proposed bitcoin reserve, which would allow the federal government to buy and sell bitcoin, is under consideration for a crypto executive order he could sign, and the Times shared a pair of papers from bitcoin advocacy groups outlining how Trump could establish such a stockpile.
Big Number
$400 billion. That’s about how much market capitalization the global crypto market has added since Monday, rising from $3.41 trillion to $3.81 trillion, according to CoinGecko.
Key Background
Bitcoin accounts for 54% of the crypto market, with a market cap of more than $2 trillion, more than Tesla’s. Asked last month if he’d establish a bitcoin stockpile akin to the government’s strategic petroleum reserve, Trump said “I think so.” Trump shifted from bitcoin bear to bull between presidential terms, as many of the younger figures in his orbit have publicly embraced crypto, including Vice President-elect JD Vance, who owns $250,000 to $500,000 worth of bitcoin, according to his latest financial disclosures. Bitcoin prices surged after Trump won in November, up 51% since Election Day, as crypto investors embraced the prospect of federal government support for the token and looser financial regulation.
Crucial Quote
The national bitcoin stockpile “has to answer many non-trivial questions” before becoming reality, including what government entity would oversee the reserve and how it may “undermine the strength of the dollar,” wrote Bernstein analyst Gautam Chhugani in a note to clients next week. It will likely take the stockpile “longer than 2025 to answer these questions and actually start buying bitcoin,” noted Chhugani, who has a highly bullish $200,000 price target for bitcoin.
Bitcoin Hits 4-Week High As Trump Reportedly Eyes Bitcoin Stockpile OrderIn a surprising turn of events, Bitcoin has surged to a 4-week high as reports emerge that President Trump is considering ordering a stockpile of the cryptocurrency. This news has sent shockwaves through the financial markets, with many speculating on the implications of such a move.
The price of Bitcoin has soared in response to the news, reaching levels not seen in weeks. Many investors are now scrambling to buy up Bitcoin in anticipation of a potential stockpile order from the President.
The implications of such an order are vast and could have far-reaching effects on the cryptocurrency market. Some experts believe that a government stockpile of Bitcoin could lead to increased adoption and legitimacy of the digital currency, while others fear that it could lead to increased government regulation and control.
Regardless of the outcome, one thing is clear – Bitcoin is once again making headlines and attracting the attention of the world. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Wink Martindale Atlanta Falcons: Michigan DC reportedly interviewing
The Detroit Lions’ coordinators aren’t the only ones in this state getting NFL interviews.
Wink Martindale, Michigan football’s defensive coordinator, is now scheduled to interview with the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday and the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday about vacancies for the same position, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
NFL on CBS’ Jonathan Jones also reported Martindale with interview with the Falcons.
Martindale did not immediately respond to a text looking for comment Tuesday afternoon.
Martindale, 61, took over as U-M’s defensive coordinator prior to the 2024 season when former DC Jesse Minter left alongside ex-head coach Jim Harbaugh to take over the Los Angeles Chargers and though things started slowly, they finished with a bang.
The man with more than two decades of NFL experience − from the Oakland Raiders (2004-08) and Denver Broncos (2009-10) to the Baltimore Ravens (2012-21) and New York Giants (2022-23) − came back to Ann Arbor to take over the No. 1 defense in the nation, but immediately lost the man he called his “Eric Weddle” when Rod Moore suffered a torn ACL during spring practice.
That, combined with a difficult schedule and first year coaches along the defensive line (Lou Esposito), linebackers (Brian Jean-Mary) and in the secondary (Lamar Morgan), not to mention the head coach (Sherrone Moore) and the immediate learning curve proved to be a bit too much.
After never allowing more than 24 points in a game last season, U-M surrendered 24 points or more in four of its first six games and though it escaped with a pair of fortunate victories − back-to-back three-point wins over USC and Minnesota − the team was floundering as it went 4-2 into the bye week.
MORE MICHIGAN FOOTBALL NEWS:Michigan football reportedly to add WR via transfer portal
Michigan lost three of its next four to fall to 5-5, but that’s when the defense came alive.
It started when Michigan held a potent Indiana attack to 20 points, then confidence grew with a 50-6 win over Northwestern. But the crowning moment of the season was when Martindale brought his unit − led by defensive linemen Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant and Josaiah Stewart − into Columbus and as three-touchdown underdogs, shocked the college football world with a 13-10 victory.
It was a defensive masterpiece for the ages, considering Michigan won a game where it didn’t have its best offensive player (Colston Loveland) a projected top-10 defensive draft pick (Will Johnson) and U-M’s offensive passing stat line read as follows: 9 of 16 for 62 yards and two interceptions.
Martindale’s unit shutdown a Buckeyes team now playing for a national championship, then decided to cap it off with a 19-13 hammering of Alabama. Again, Martindale’s group suffered one of the better offenses in the country and this time did so with its top four players sitting out for the NFL draft.
In the end, U-M’s finished No. 11 in total defense (308.4 yards per game) and No. 19 in scoring defense (19.9 points per game) despite playing four of the 12 teams in the College Football Playoff.
According to Martindale’s contract, should he leave for the NFL, he would need to pay U-M $350,000 as a buyout. Martindale signed a three-year contract on Feb. 14, 2024 which had him scheduled to make $2.3 million base salary in 2024, $2.5 million in 2025 and $2.7 million in 2026.
Despite losing a host of picks to the NFL draft (with Moore still to make up his mind), U-M felt it took momentum into the offseason on that side of the ball with Martindale at the helm. Now, it will see just how much pull the NFL still has.
The report also indicates the Cincinnati Bengals have interest in meeting with Martindale.

Wink Martindale Atlanta Falcons: Michigan DC reportedly interviewingAccording to reports, Wink Martindale, the current defensive coordinator for the University of Michigan, is set to interview for the Atlanta Falcons’ head coaching position. Martindale has been with the Wolverines since 2021, helping lead the team to a successful season.
Martindale’s aggressive defensive style and ability to motivate players have been key factors in his success at Michigan. He has previous NFL coaching experience, having served as the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens from 2018 to 2020.
If Martindale were to be hired by the Falcons, it would mark a significant change for the team, as they look to rebuild and improve after a disappointing season. Fans are hopeful that Martindale’s leadership and defensive expertise could help turn the Falcons into a winning team once again.
Stay tuned for more updates on Wink Martindale’s potential move to the Atlanta Falcons as their new head coach.

The Chicago Bears are exploring an array of options to fill their head-coaching vacancy, including the trade market.
They placed a call to the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire head coach Mike Tomlin but were denied, according to a recent report from ESPN. One other NFL team inquired about Tomlin, who has a no-trade clause, but they were also unable to negotiate a trade, per the report.
Tomlin delivered a message earlier this week regarding potential trade offers from other teams — “save your time.”
The Steelers are coming off a 10-7 campaign that saw them lose five combined games (regular season plus postseason) to close out the season, ending with a loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the wild-card round.
Pittsburgh has a combined 183-107-2 regular-season record, won Super Bowl XLIII and has never had a losing season under Tomlin (2007-present). That said, the Steelers also haven’t won a playoff game since the 2016 season.
Chicago went 5-12, low-lighted by a 10-game losing streak, this season. It’s in the midst of an exhaustive head-coaching search, which has included interviews with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, among many others. The Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus after two-plus seasons following their loss to the Lions in Week 13.
Whomever Chicago’s next head coach is, that person inherits a compelling roster, headlined by quarterback and 2024 first overall pick Caleb Williams, wide receivers DJ Moore and Rome Odunze, linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards and cornerback Jaylon Johnson.
The Bears are one of five teams in search of a head coach, the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders being the other four. The New England Patriots are the only team to hire a new head coach thus far this cycle, that being Mike Vrabel.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly rejected a trade request from the Chicago Bears for head coach Mike Tomlin. According to sources, the Bears expressed interest in acquiring Tomlin to fill their head coaching vacancy, but the Steelers quickly shut down any potential deal.Tomlin, who has been the head coach of the Steelers since 2007, is highly regarded in the NFL for his leadership and success on the field. Under his guidance, the Steelers have consistently been competitive and have made multiple playoff appearances.
While the Bears may have been eager to bring in a proven coach like Tomlin, it seems that the Steelers are intent on keeping him in Pittsburgh. It remains to be seen how the Bears will proceed in their search for a new head coach, but it seems that Tomlin will not be leaving the Steelers anytime soon.
