The Thing originally debuted in the pages of Marvel Comics in 1982, just a few months before the film’s release. Written by Bill Mantlo and illustrated by Brent Anderson, the comic book adaptation delved deeper into the story of MacReady and the other occupants of Outpost 31 as they battled against the shape-shifting alien creature.
While the film was met with mixed reviews and struggled at the box office, the comic book adaptation was a hit with fans and helped keep MacReady’s character alive in the minds of audiences. The comic book provided additional backstory and character development that was not fully explored in the film, giving fans a deeper understanding of MacReady’s motivations and struggles.
Thanks to the success of the comic book adaptation, Kurt Russell’s portrayal of MacReady became a cult favorite and helped solidify his status as a genre icon. SAN FRANCISCO — About an hour after Quinten Post wrapped up a 20-minute, 20-point breakout performance in the Warriors’ 131-106 blowout home win over the Bulls on Thursday, he shared an unprompted story about Steph Curry that meant a lot to the unknown rookie.
After the team landed in San Francisco following a recent road trip, Post was having trouble finding a ride home around 2:30 a.m. Uber wasn’t working for him, he said. As many in the organization filtered into the parking lot and away from the airport, Curry, who often moves in his personal life at a methodical pace, saw the unsettled Post trying to figure out the logistics of his exit as the options dwindled.
“Steph’s like: ‘Are you trying to go home?’” Post recalled. “Yep. ‘I got you.’”
Post estimated that Curry took a 20-minute detour to get him where he needed to go. It was a small and forgettable gesture to Curry. When relayed that Post had shared it with reporters, Curry laughed in delight, said he “loved the kid” but that rookies reveal too much. But for Post, this was clearly a symbolic moment of leadership as he gets acclimated to NBA life.
“That just shows how he is as a person,” Post said. “Out of the 50 people at the airport, he was the last person that needed to worry about if I got home.”
Quinten Post told a story at the podium tonight of Steph Curry taking him home at 2:30 am after a road trip because Uber wasn’t working. Said it was probably a 20-minute detour but clearly meant a lot to Post. pic.twitter.com/TljEUCPX75

Post delivered that anecdote only because his on-court play warranted a trip to the podium. The Warriors have had a bottom-five offense in the league the last two months and, as they’ve lost Jonathan Kuminga and Draymond Green to injuries while tumbling through a 9-19 stretch, Steve Kerr has gone searching for some offensive answers.
Post, drafted 52nd in June and shoehorned into the roster on a two-way contract, had shown promise in his most recent G League stint, scoring 30, 30 and 27 in three early January games. He’s a true 7-footer who made 40-plus percent of his college 3s at Mississippi State and Boston College and impressed Green, Kevon Looney and the coaching staff in camp enough with his toughness and physicality to warrant an opportunity.
There were even people in the organization a little annoyed that the front office didn’t get him to Minnesota in time for that shorthanded game against the Timberwolves to close the previous road trip. The staff has gained increasing belief in recent weeks that Post, an older rookie at 24, might be able to fill an obvious void as a floor-spacing center.

Who are the Warriors? Trade deadline begs for some Zach LaVine-level boldness
“He played five years of college basketball,” Kerr said. “He’s an old-school rookie. Guys 25 years ago came in ready to play because they played all that college ball and got that foundation under him. That’s Quinten. Then the biggest thing over the last couple months in Santa Cruz is the staff there did a great job of working him defensively. That was our biggest concern at the beginning of the season. Could he guard pick-and-roll? Could he get out on the perimeter? Could he be up to the level of the screen and get back into the paint? You saw that tonight.”
Post credited some of his defensive acclimation to regular conversations with former Warriors center Zaza Pachulia, who remains a prominent member on the business side of the organization and was spotted in the locker room postgame Thursday night.
But Post’s arrival into the rotation is about what he provides on the offensive end. Defenses are selling out to stop Steph Curry, and Post, a willing and accurate shooter, is benefitting by letting it fly from above the arc with regularity the last two nights. Post attempted 10 3s and made five of them in 20 minutes on Thursday against the Bulls. In 61 career minutes, he’s already attempted 22 3s.
“Last few games we’ve been kinda struggling offensively,” Post said. “That’s why I’m getting a chance. It doesn’t make sense if I come in and don’t play my game. Shot the shots I thought were good shots. Glad a few went in.”

— Golden State Warriors (@warriors) January 24, 2025
Post was part of a bench eruption against the Bulls. Gui Santos hit five more 3s and had 19 points. The Warriors were a plus-31 with him on the floor. Moses Moody had four blocks and four 3s. The Warriors were a plus-33 with him on the floor. Brandin Podziemski returned from a 12-game absence and juiced the team’s pace, looking much like the high-impact rookie who burst on the scene a season ago.
But Post was the postgame story, and Curry hasn’t been able to hide his pleasure in the development. He beamed as a few of Post’s five made 3s went in against the Bulls.
“He picks and pops,” Kerr said. “That means the other team’s big guy has to go with him. That means that defender’s not in the paint. Steph (Curry) was the happiest guy in the building tonight with all that room to work with. The game got a lot easier for all of our guys.”

Post will continue to be a featured part of the rotation in the coming games. Stiffer tests are immediately ahead. The Warriors face Anthony Davis and the Lakers in a showcase game on Saturday night and Post will be a noted part of their pregame scout. How does Post handle the physicality? The Warriors face the Thunder next Wednesday. How does he handle what will be a targeted Shai Gilgeous-Alexander attack on him in space?
“He sees and feels the game and he’s got some toughness to him,” Kerr said. “He’s a physical 7-footer. He’s not a finesse 7-footer. He’s a real 7-footer and likes to mix it up.”

Warriors rookie Quinten Post, once rescued by Steph Curry, is returning the favor
In a heartwarming turn of events, Golden State Warriors rookie Quinten Post is paying it forward by helping out the very person who once rescued him – none other than superstar teammate Steph Curry.
It all started when Post, a 7-foot center from the Netherlands, found himself stranded in a snowstorm while driving to a game earlier this season. With no cell service and no way to call for help, Post was starting to panic until Curry happened to drive by and notice his teammate in distress.
Curry immediately pulled over and offered Post a ride to the game, saving the day and earning the gratitude of the young rookie. Since then, Post has been determined to repay the favor and show his appreciation to Curry in any way he can.
Whether it’s setting screens, grabbing rebounds, or simply being a supportive teammate, Post has been going above and beyond to make sure Curry knows just how grateful he is for the assist.
And as the Warriors continue to make a push for the playoffs, Post’s contributions on and off the court are sure to make a difference in the team’s success. It’s a heartwarming story of friendship and camaraderie that reminds us all of the power of lending a helping hand when it’s needed most.

Saving wildlife is a job fit for a princess, and Bindi Irwin’s daughter Grace Warrior is up for the task! The adorable 3-year-old wore a pink princess dress to help rescue a turtle in a new video, and she’s like a real-life Snow White.
Bindi’s brother Robert Irwin shared the sweet clip on Instagram this week, which happened before he flew to South Africa to film I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. “Cool little animal rescue, with the help of a turtle expert … Grace. Fun times before heading over to Africa. #FlashBack,” the reality show host and wildlife conservationist captioned a post.

In the video, he explains more about how this rescue came about. “So, I just finished doing a reptile tour here at Australia Zoo,” he says, explaining how he always opens up the room for questions at the end. Someone raised their hand and said, “I don’t have a question, but I just found this wandering around a footpath in the zoo.”
Robert instantly recognized it as “a wild turtle” who didn’t belong in the zoo. The tiny baby turtle is smaller than the palm of his hand and so adorable! “I’m now going to get this guy relocated and put him in a nice, safe spot,” Robert says. “I think this is a job for my niece.”
The niece is Grace, of course, who determinedly walks behind her uncle near a body of water. She looks adorable in a ballerina pink dress with fluffy pink tulle and matching pink sneakers, with a blue bucket hat on her head. She lifts the turtle from the container that Robert is using to transport him, then crouches down next to the creek to let the turtle crawl away. She did it like a little pro!
“Compassion for another living being is the greatest gift ,” Grace’s “Bunny” (Grandma Terri Irwin) commented on the video.
“I love seeing you all pass down that family legacy to little Grace. such a blessing,” a fan commented. Someone else wrote, “Cutest rescue now THIS is how you teach the future generations ”
Grace and her uncle Robert have such a sweet relationship, and we love seeing what they get up to together on social media. Like earlier this month, when Robert gave Grace a piggyback ride (and she gave him cute nose “boops.” She wore another pink princess dress with Minnie Mouse ears in these precious photos.
“The adventures of Uncle Robert and Grace (…AKA Minnie Mouse! )” he captioned the post.
In an interview with Access Hollywood in May, Robert gushed about his niece and shared how he and Bindi are keeping the memory of their dad, the late Steve Irwin, alive with her. “We’ll turn on a documentary of dad and it’s amazing how Grace gravitates towards that. She really does,” Robert said.
He added, “You know what’s the most meaningful thing ever, sometimes there’ll be really early footage of dad doing something cool, you know catching a croc or whatever, and she’ll go, ‘Oh look it’s Uncle Robert,’ and we’ll go, “No, no, no, no, that’s your grandpa. That’s the most meaningful thing.”
Grace is definitely surrounded by love, and she is already learning how to give love back to the creatures of this world!

The IDF and Shin Bet, in a special and secret operation, rescued the body of the kidnapped soldier, Sergeant Oron Shaul , who fell in the battle of Shejaiya on July 20, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge. He fell in the APC disaster in the Gaza Strip, in which six other fighters fell.
He was initially declared missing, but Hamas announced that the soldier was in its possession. The IDF determined that he was no longer alive and a few days later declared him a martyr whose burial place was unknown, and his family even held a vigil for him.
“Efforts to recover him, including the collection of information and intelligence by the Prisoners of War and Missing Persons Command and the Special Operations Division in the Intelligence Branch, have continued throughout the past decade and even more intensely during the war,” the IDF said. Several special units in the IDF and Shin Bet took part in the operation, including the 13th Battalion, forces from the 162nd Division, and units of the Intelligence Directorate, as well as Golani fighters. The IDF does not address questions about when and how this happened, but the body was recovered in the past 24 hours. There were no casualties among IDF forces in the operation.
Shaul was identified at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Israel, after which IDF representatives informed his family. The family of the kidnapped soldier Hadar Goldin was also informed, although his body was not recovered from the Strip. Some 97 hostages are currently being held in the Gaza Strip, including Hadar Goldin, who also fell in Operation Protective Edge. In addition to him, hostages Avraham Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed have also been held in the Strip since 2014, and are scheduled to be released during the first phase of the hostage deal.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “in a special operation by the Shin Bet and the IDF, before the cease-fire came into effect, we returned to Israel the body of the late Golan fighter Oron Shaul. I hug the Shaul family, my dears, and congratulate the Shin Bet and IDF forces for their resourcefulness and courage.”
“The picture of Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin, of blessed memory, who fell in Operation Protective Edge in 2014, has been in front of my eyes in my office for many years as daily testimony to my commitment to bringing them home. Tonight we completed the mission to return Oron, and we will not be silent or rest until we also complete the mission to return Hadar Goldin. We will continue to work to return all of our hostages- both the living and the dead.”
Herzl Shaul, Oron’s father, died about two years after the APC disaster in which his son was kidnapped. He died after a long battle with small intestine cancer. Before his death, he said that he contracted the disease due to the suffering he had endured since Oron’s fall and the wait for his return from Hamas.”
In December 2023, an IDF spokesman reported that fighters from the 13th Battalion of the Golani, together with the brigade combat team of the 188th Brigade, took over and destroyed the “Palestine Square” in the neighborhood, where Hamas had erected a statue glorifying the disaster. The square was erected after “Protective Edge”, and the statue in its center depicts a fist emerging from an APC, with three discs on it, one of which bore Oron Shaul’s name.
In a miraculous turn of events, the body of Israeli soldier Oron Shaul, who has been held by Hamas since 2014, has been rescued from Gaza. The news has brought a sense of closure and relief to Oron’s family and the entire nation of Israel.
Oron Shaul was one of seven soldiers killed during Operation Protective Edge in 2014, and his body was taken by Hamas militants. Since then, his family has been tirelessly advocating for his return, refusing to give up hope.
The details of how Oron’s body was rescued from Gaza are still unclear, but one thing is certain – this is a momentous occasion for Israel. The return of Oron’s body brings a sense of closure and allows his family to finally lay him to rest with the dignity and respect he deserves.
As we celebrate this incredible news, let us also remember the sacrifices made by all the soldiers who have lost their lives defending Israel. May their memories be a blessing, and may their families find comfort in knowing that their loved ones are finally at peace.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Two crewmembers of a Kodiak-based fishing boat are in stable condition after being rescued from the sinking vessel Wednesday, according to U.S. Coast Guard officials.
The Coast Guard said the fishing vessel Tanusha began “taking on water” about 23 miles southeast of the city of Kodiak and put out a distress signal from the boat’s radio beacon at 9:48 a.m. Wednesday, triggering the response.
The two Tanusha crewmembers were the only people onboard the ailing vessel at the time. Coast Guard officials said all nearby fishing boats were alerted of the distress call via radio and one boat — the Victory — went to the area and found the two men in a life raft near the capsized boat.
The Coast Guard said one of the two fishermen was showing signs of hypothermia and suffered a head injury.
Video captured by the Coast Guard depicts a USCG helicopter hoisting one of the crewmembers up from an Alaska State Troopers vessel.
The Coast Guard said the two fishermen were helped by medical personnel in Kodiak and were last reported in “stable” condition.
The Tanusha is a longliner fishing boat built out of Kodiak, according to the Craftsmen United boatbuilders. It suffered a minor oil spill in February 2009 that was naturally dispersed.

On a stormy day near Kodiak, Alaska, two fishermen were rescued after their fishing boat capsized in rough waters. The dramatic rescue operation was carried out by the U.S. Coast Guard, who received a distress call from the fishermen stating that their boat was taking on water and sinking.
Despite the treacherous conditions, the Coast Guard quickly mobilized a rescue team and located the fishermen clinging to debris in the frigid waters. Using a helicopter, they were able to hoist the fishermen to safety and transport them to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Thanks to the quick response and expertise of the Coast Guard, these two fishermen were saved from a potentially tragic end. Their story serves as a reminder of the dangers fishermen face while out at sea, and the importance of having a strong and reliable rescue team to come to their aid in times of need. We are grateful for the bravery and skill of the Coast Guard in this successful rescue mission.
