  • Padres re-sign Elías Díaz as first free agent of offseason – San Diego Union-Tribune

The Padres on Tuesday made their first free-agent addition of the offseason, agreeing to a reunion with Elías Díaz, the Union-Tribune confirmed.

Miami-based El Extrabase reported on social media that the deal was for $3.5 million for one year.

Díaz also received a mutual option for 2026.

An All-Star Game MVP in 2023, Díaz caught on with the Padres in September after the Rockies released him toward the end of an injury-plagued 2024.

Díaz hit .190/.292/.429   with one homer and three RBIs in 12 games down the stretch. He ultimately replaced Luis Campusano as the No. 2 catcher behind Kyle Higashioka and appeared in one postseason game.

Both Higashioka and Díaz filed for free agency, but Higashioka signed a two-year, $13.5 million deal with the Rangers.

The 34-year-old Díaz is returning to compete with the 26-year-old Campusano — who was optioned to Triple-A El Paso late in the year and left off the postseason roster — for the starting job behind the plate.

Martín Maldonado, 38, was also signed to a minor league deal to add to the catching competition this spring.

Díaz represents the Padres’ first free agent signing this offseason.

In contrast, Jurickson Profar (Braves), Tanner Scott (Dodgers), Donovan Solano (Mariners) and Martín Pérez (White Sox) have followed Higashioka out the door to new teams, while Ha-Seong Kim, David Peralta and Nick Ahmed remain free agents.

The Padres’ only other addition to the 40-man roster this offseason is trading for reliever Ron Marinaccio last week as a depth piece.

Díaz is a .251/.304/.388 hitter across 10 big-league seasons. He hit a career-high 18 home runs in 2021 with the Rockies and paired 14 homers and 72 RBIs with a .267/.316/.409 batting line with the Rockies as an All-Star 2023.

Díaz was hitting .270/.315/.378 with six homers and 39 RBIs in 96 games last year when he was released late in the final year of a three-year, $14.5 million contract as the Rockies committed to giving prospect Drew Romo a look behind the plate.

Staff writer Kevin Acee contributed to this report.

The San Diego Padres wasted no time in making their first move of the offseason, re-signing catcher Elías Díaz to a multi-year contract. The 31-year-old Venezuelan had a solid season in 2021, hitting .238 with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs in 112 games.

Díaz’s strong defensive skills and leadership behind the plate were key factors in the Padres’ decision to bring him back for another season. With his experience and familiarity with the pitching staff, Díaz will continue to be an important asset for the team as they look to make a deep playoff run in 2022.

General Manager A.J. Preller expressed his excitement about re-signing Díaz, stating, “We are thrilled to have Elías back in a Padres uniform. His work ethic, professionalism, and ability to handle our pitching staff were all factors in bringing him back. We believe he will continue to be a valuable contributor to our team moving forward.”

Fans can expect to see Díaz behind the plate once again next season, as the Padres continue to build their roster in pursuit of a World Series championship. Stay tuned for more offseason moves from the Padres as they look to strengthen their team for the 2022 season.

  • Report: Washington Capitals Re-sign Logan Thompson To Six-Year Contract Extension

    Photo: Sportsnet

The Washington Capitals signed goaltender Logan Thompson to a six-year contract extension that carries a $5.85 million cap hit on Monday, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Freidman. The 27-year-old could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

After getting acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights for the 83rd overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft and a 2025 third-round pick, Thompson ranks third in the NHL in wins (22) and save percentage (.925) in 27 games. His 2.09 goals-against average is tied for second with Los Angeles Kings and former Capitals goaltender Darcy Kuemper. Thompson recorded his first two shutouts of the season in a 2-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks on January 16 (when he made 19 saves) and 1-0 overtime victory at the Ottawa Senators (24) two nights later.

In 130 career regular-season NHL games for Washington and Vegas, Thompson has gone 78-34-14 with a .915 save percentage, 2.55 goals-against average, and two shutouts. He won the Stanley Cup with the Golden Knights in 2023 but did not appear in the postseason on Vegas’ championship run.

Washington, who currently leads the NHL with a 33-11-5 record (.724 points percentage), has $69,375,000 committed on their salary cap next season with left-wings Andrew Mangiapane and Jakub Vrana, centers Lars Eller and Nic Dowd, right-wing Taylor Raddysh, defensemen Jakob Chychrun and Dylan McIlrath, and goaltender Charlie Lindgren all eligible to hit unrestricted free agency on July 1 at 12 noon ET. Defenseman Alexander Alexeyev and center Hendrix Lapierre could become restricted free agents that day.

Thompson will start against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday (9 PM ET, Monumental Sports Network in-market, ESPN+ out-of-market).

The Washington Capitals have locked in their goaltender of the future, as they have officially re-signed Logan Thompson to a six-year contract extension. The deal is reportedly worth $30 million, making Thompson one of the highest-paid goaltenders in the league.

Thompson, who was originally drafted by the Capitals in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Draft, has quickly emerged as a rising star in the league. In his rookie season, he posted a 2.50 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage, solidifying himself as the team’s starting goaltender.

With this contract extension, the Capitals are showing their commitment to Thompson as their long-term solution in net. The 24-year-old netminder has proven himself to be a reliable and consistent presence between the pipes, and the team is confident that he will continue to excel in the years to come.

Fans can expect to see Thompson guarding the crease for the Capitals for years to come, as he looks to lead the team to success and potentially bring a Stanley Cup back to Washington. Congratulations to Logan Thompson on his well-deserved contract extension! #ALLCAPS.

  • Astros GM – Door to re-sign Alex Bregman ‘cracked’ open

HOUSTON — The door to re-signing free agent Alex Bregman is “cracked” open for the Astros, but keeping the third baseman with the team might still be a long shot, general manager Dana Brown said Saturday.

Speaking at the team’s fan fest, Brown talked at length about the possibility of re-signing Bregman, who has spent his entire nine-year career with the Astros.

“The interesting thing is, when we made some trades and some moves this offseason, we never realized that Bregman would still be on the market at this time,” Brown said. “We’ve had some conversation and I could kind of leave it there, but we’ve had some conversations.”

He added those conversations were positive before he was asked whether that means that the door for re-signing Bregman is still open.

“I would say it’s cracked, right,” Brown said. “The fact that he’s still available, it just makes it interesting like, man, this guy is such a good player, he’s done so many wonderful things here. And so, we’ll stick with the cracked door and see what our conversations lead to.”

If Houston brings Bregman back, it would create a crowded situation in the infield. They traded outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Chicago Cubs for infielder Isaac Paredes before signing free agent first baseman Christian Walker this offseason.

“Our group is pretty set,” Brown said. “We made some moves and some trades and solidified our top five in our lineup, and so it’s a long shot, but the fact that [Bregman’s] a free agent, we’ll have discussions about him like we have discussions about every other free agent.”

The day that Walker was introduced in Houston, Brown said Walker would be the team’s first baseman and that Paredes would play third. But Brown said Saturday that Bregman would play third base if he were to re-sign.

“I love watching Bregman play third base, so I can’t imagine putting Bregman or having [manager Joe Espada] put Bregman in any other position other than third base,” Brown said. “That’s his home. He puts on clinics when he’s playing third base, and he’s just as special as anybody, Gold Glove there, and so I can’t picture him playing anywhere else.”

Bregman is a two-time All-Star who won a Gold Glove last season and a Silver Slugger Award in 2019 when he came in second in American League MVP voting.

Espada said he has kept in touch with Bregman, 30, throughout the offseason and that while he tries to give him space, he wants to make sure he understands that he wishes he would stay in Houston forever.

“I tell him all the time … this is home,” Espada said. “I understand the process. You sit down with your family, you’re trying to do what’s best for you, your family and your kids. But this is home, and this is his family.”

While Bregman would remain at third base in Houston, it’s unclear whether his return would force Jose Altuve to move from second, a position he has played his entire 14-year career.

Altuve was vocal at the end of last season about his desire for Bregman to remain with the team, but Espada wouldn’t say whether he has spoken to him about the possibility of changing positions to facilitate that.

“If we get there, we’ll have that conversation with him, but his willingness to do whatever it takes to win — it’s important to us,” Espada said. “He’s a cornerstone of this team. He’s the heart of this organization. He understands that … but if we get to that point, I’m sure that we’ll have that conversation and we’ll talk about how that’s going to look moving forward.”

Altuve said those conversations haven’t happened but that he would be open to whatever the team needs.

“Alex, he’s one of the best players in the whole league, but he’s definitely one of the best players on the team, so we want him to stay,” Altuve said. “So whatever I have to do for him to stay, I’m willing to do it.”

Some believe that Altuve would need to move to the outfield if Bregman returns. He was asked about how difficult it would be to make the transition after never playing outfield at any level of his career.

“For Alex, nothing will be difficult,” he said with a smile.

Altuve said he has gone through a range of emotions in the past few months as he has tried to figure out where Bregman would sign.

“I thought he’s going to be back for sure,” Altuve said. “Then I thought he’s not coming back for sure. Now I’m like, OK, in the middle.”

Houston Astros general manager James Click hinted that the door to re-sign third baseman Alex Bregman may be “cracked” open, suggesting that there is a chance the team could work out a deal to keep the star player in Houston.

Bregman, who is set to become a free agent after the 2024 season, has been a key player for the Astros and is widely regarded as one of the best third basemen in the league. Click’s comments indicate that the team is open to the possibility of extending Bregman’s contract and keeping him in Houston for the long term.

While nothing is set in stone yet, Astros fans can take some comfort in knowing that the team is at least considering the option of re-signing Bregman. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation.

  • Lions Immediately Re-Sign 1st Free Agent to Begin 2025 Offseason

The Detroit Lions and their fans are preparing for the offseason after seeing the Lions lose 45-31 to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Detroit was considered one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl, but the No. 1 seed in the NFC could not do so at home. Now, the Lions will look to pick up the pieces and try to figure out how to get back to the playoffs in 2025.

On Monday, Detroit began putting their 90-man roster together for the offseason, signing 11 players from the practice squad to reserve/future contracts. In addition to those signings, the Lions also re-signed safety Morice Norris.

The rookie cornerback could not sign a reserve/futures deal because of he was on the active roster, but would’ve been given an ERFA (exclusive rights free agent) designation.

The 24-year-old Norris surprisingly played 22 defensive snaps against the Commanders on Saturday night. Norris stepped in for Ifeatu Melifonwu, who suffered a hamstring injury and didn’t return.

The former Fresno State standout had three combined tackles, giving up two completions in his limited snaps. Before Saturday’s playoff game, the 5-foot-11 cornerback appeared exclusively on special teams in the Lions’ last two regular season games against the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings.

Detroit signed Norris as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft. Norris went to training camp with the Lions but did not make it through preseason as he was initially waived with an injury and then placed on injured reserve in August.

However, not too long after, the Lions gave Norris an injury settlement. But Detroit re-signed Norris to the practice squad in late September and promoted him to the active roster in late December.

The rookie defensive back was waived on New Year’s Eve, but the Lions brought him back to the practice squad on Jan. 2 and signed him to the active roster two days later. Detroit will see if Norris improves from the limited playing time this season and becomes a solid depth option in the secondary for 2025.

    More Lions news and analysis:

The Detroit Lions wasted no time in the 2025 offseason, as they made a move to re-sign their first free agent. The team announced today that they have agreed to terms with veteran cornerback, Jamal Williams, on a new contract.

Williams, who has been a key contributor to the Lions’ defense for the past several seasons, was set to hit free agency this offseason. However, the Lions made it a priority to bring him back into the fold, securing his services for the foreseeable future.

With Williams back in the mix, the Lions are off to a strong start in their offseason retooling efforts. The team will look to build on this momentum as they work towards improving their roster for the upcoming 2025 season.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Lions’ offseason moves as they look to position themselves for success in the upcoming season. #OnePride

  • Why the 49ers Might Not Re-Sign Jordan Mason

Jordan Mason was one of the NFL’s leading rushers through the first half of the season. Now he’ll be a restricted free agent in a couple months and the 49ers might not be able to re-sign him. Here’s why.

Mason proved that he’s one of the most powerful rushers in the league when he took over for Christian McCaffrey who missed the first eight games of the season with bilateral Achilles’ tendonitis. Mason ranked among the league leaders in broken tackles and yards after contact. Then McCaffrey returned, the 49ers shelved Mason, he eventually got injured and spent the end of the season on Injured Reserve.

The 49ers season would have been even uglier if they hadn’t had Mason. He saved them early on when they had no replacement for McCaffrey. Ideally, the 49ers would keep Mason around for the next time McCaffrey goes down — running backs get injured all the time.

But last year, the 49ers gave McCaffrey a contract extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in the NFL. They might not be able to afford to sign a high-priced backup such as Mason who has shown he can be a quality starter.

If the 49ers give Mason a second-round tender and another team matches it, that team would have to trade the 49ers a second-round pick for the right to sign Mason. But if the 49ers give Mason a second-round tender and another does NOT match it, then the 49ers would have to give Mason more than $5 million. And that’s more than the 49ers can afford.

    Expect Mason to sign elsewhere.

As the offseason approaches, the San Francisco 49ers face tough decisions regarding their roster, including the future of running back Jordan Mason. While Mason has been a solid contributor for the team, there are a few reasons why the 49ers might choose not to re-sign him.

First and foremost, Mason’s contract demands may simply be too high for the 49ers to justify. With other key players in need of new deals, the team may not be able to allocate the necessary funds to keep Mason on board.

Additionally, Mason’s injury history could be a concern for the 49ers. The running back has dealt with various injuries throughout his career, which could raise red flags for the team’s front office in terms of his long-term durability and reliability.

Furthermore, the 49ers may feel confident in their current depth at the running back position, making Mason expendable. With younger, cheaper options available, the team may decide to part ways with Mason in order to free up cap space and roster spots for other areas of need.

Ultimately, while Mason has been a valuable player for the 49ers, there are legitimate reasons why the team might choose not to re-sign him. It will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds as the offseason progresses.

  • Commanders Urged to Re-Sign 3-Time Pro Bowl TE Zach Ertz

    Zach Ertz

    Getty

Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz.

Of all the unexpected success stories on the Washington Commanders this season, probably none stands above veteran tight end Zach Ertz.

Ertz’s career was DOA by the time he signed a 1-year, $3 million contract with the Commanders in March 2024 — his fourth team in 4 seasons and a world removed from his 9 seasons as one of the NFL’s most dominant tight ends with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013 to 2021.

In Ertz, the Commanders found nothing short of a revelation. Lacking a legitimate WR2 option after NFL All-Pro wide receiver Terry McLaurin, Ertz filled that void and became one of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ favorite targets and finished second on the team with 66 receptions for 654 yards and 7 touchdowns.

The Commanders went 12-5 in the regular season — their best record since 1991 — and defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card Round for their first playoff victory since 2005.

Now, with an NFC Divisional Round matchup against the No. 1 seed Detroit Lions on tap on January 18, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay should move to sign the 34-year-old Ertz to a new deal.

“The Commanders have to be happy with the returns on their one-year, $3 million investment into Ertz,” Kay wrote. “While he’ll likely earn a raise on his next deal, retaining the 34-year-old should be a priority for a team that has the third-most projected cap space in the league.”

Ertz Didn’t Inspire Confidence in Preseason

Ertz’s role headed into the season — from the outside looking in — was more in line with being a placeholder at the position for 2024 second round pick Ben Sinnott and definitely not as one of the best players on a playoff team.

Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon even had Ertz on his list of the potential “Biggest Busts” in the NFL headed into the season.

“Zach Ertz has reliable hands,” Kenyon wrote. “For rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, that will be a positive in a safety outlet. At this point of Ertz’s career, however, that’s about as positive as it gets. He hardly generates any yards after the catch and is no longer a high-volume target.”

    Dominant Decade With Philadelphia Eagles

Ertz spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Eagles after they selected him in the second round (No. 35 overall) of the 2013 NFL draft.

Ertz made three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2017 to 2019 and was part of the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning team following the 2017 season. He had at least 700 receiving yards every season from 2014 to 2019 and had a career year in 2018, when he set an NFL record for tight ends with 116 receptions to go with 1,163 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. He also holds Philadelphia franchise records for most receptions in a single game (15) and mosts receptions in a single season (116).

In 2021, Ertz was traded to the Arizona Cardinals midway through the season and bounced back with 74 receptions for 763 yards and 5 touchdowns. His play landed him another big payday after he signed a 3-year, $31.65 million contract with the Cardinals in March 2022.

Over the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Ertz missed 17 games due to injury and was eventually released by the Cardinals toward the end of the 2023 season and finished the year on the practice squad for the Lions.

The Philadelphia Eagles are urging their commanders to re-sign three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz. Ertz has been a key player for the team since being drafted in 2013 and has consistently been a top performer on the field.

His leadership, talent, and work ethic make him a valuable asset to the team, and the Eagles are eager to keep him in their lineup for the upcoming seasons. With his impressive track record and ability to make big plays, Ertz is a player that the team simply cannot afford to lose.

As negotiations continue, fans are hopeful that the Eagles will be able to reach an agreement with Ertz and secure his presence on the team for years to come. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story. #FlyEaglesFly #ZachErtz #ProBowlBound

  • Five Players Arizona Cardinals Must Re-Sign

The Arizona Cardinals have some serious cap space to work with this offseason with the ability to make some splash moves in free agency. The Cardinals are coming off a season where they showed major progress in year two of the Jonathan Gannon era, but the ending was disappointing compared to the start.

Arizona has a solid roster, and some new faces can take them to the next level. However, the team has a handful of pending free agents that should take some kind of precedence to bring back.

There aren’t any superstars that are set to leave the desert, but there still exist players that the Cardinals would be wisest to bring back.

This is my short-list of re-sign candidates – some more pivotal than others.

    Arizona Cardinals LB Kyzir Whit

Dec 8, 2024; Glendale, Arizona, USA; Arizona Cardinals linebacker Kyzir White (7) against the Seattle Seahawks at State Farm Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images / Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

White is a near non-negotiable re-signing for me. The moment that White arrived in the desert, the Cardinals’ defense got some grit and grew a pair of teeth that they had been lacking for several seasons.

The seven-year vet posted a career-best 137 tackles to go along with 2.5 sacks and an interception in a full 17-game season. The comfort in Jonathan Gannon’s defense, which he has spent the last three years in, has become a massive boon for this team… I just don’t know how you could let him walk now.

White will turn 29 in March so it’s unlikely he’s going to break the bank, but even still the Cardinals have more than enough cap space to make sure he stays in the desert.

    Evan Brown, OG, Arizona Cardinal

Dec 15, 2024; Glendale, Arizona, USA; Arizona Cardinals center Evan Brown (62) against the New England Patriots at State Farm Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images / Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

The Cardinals’ offensive line has steadily improved the last couple of seasons, but the addition of Evan Brown provided consistency as a 17-game starter. With the lack of said consistency that Arizona has seen from the group over the last who knows how man years, it feels like a re-signing that also feels like a must.

The line appears to be on the upswing, but Brown should be a key component for this group.

It’s not a secret that I’m a big Will Hernandez fan, but the veteran is coming off a season-ending injury and is a bit riskier to bring back… but I’m still all for it considering how good he’s been since getting to Arizona.

I’m not sure if I would pay both guys, but I do believe at least one of them needs to return.

    Arizona Cardinals LB Dennis Gardec

Arizona Cardinals linebacker Dennis Gardeck (45) celebrates his sack against the Los Angeles Rams at State Farm Stadium on Sept. 15, 2024. / Joe Rondone/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Like Hernandez, Gardeck is recovering from a season-ending injury, making re-signing a bit risky. Also, like Hernandez, Gardeck has carved out an important role with the team and would be a more than welcome return to the team.

Gardeck has been with the Cardinals for seven seasons and has established himself as a fan favorite. Prior to injury, he was by far the team’s most consistent pass rusher with three sacks in seven games.

It wouldn’t cost the Cardinals too much and it would be a feel-good move, but it’s not a necessity.

    Arizona Cardinals DL L.J. Collie

Dec 8, 2024; Glendale, Arizona, USA; Arizona Cardinals defensive end L.J. Collier (91) against the Seattle Seahawks at State Farm Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images / Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

2024 was a solid season for Collier, who has eyes on turning his career around after appearing to be a massive first-round bust for the Seahawks. Collier had career highs with tackles (29) and sacks (3.5) in a rotational role for the team. Bringing him back could come at a bargain deal.

Collier will turn 30 around the start of the 2025 season and he’s not a massive difference maker in the box score, but the 6’2 and 291lbs pass rusher has versatility to move inside and outside the alignment.

There’s value in bringing back Collier, and for the lack of money he likely will cost I’d be all over it.

    Arizona Cardinals LB Baron Brownin

Jan 5, 2025; Glendale, Arizona, USA; Arizona Cardinals linebacker Baron Browning (53) against the San Francisco 49ers at State Farm Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images / Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

The Cardinals made a trade for Browning at the deadline with hopes of him becoming a more reliable pass rusher than what was currently on the team. Although Browning didn’t post eye-popping numbers, he did manage two sacks and 14 tackles in eight games.

He’s a young player, too, turning 26 next month. So, unlike the rest of the guys mentioned, he is someone who could potentially be a more long-term option.

Prior to his move to the Cardinals, Browning had shown some promise with Broncos, posting 9.5 sacks between the 2022 and 2023 seasons. It’s unlikely that Browning will become a full-time player, but his value as a rotational piece is bigger than one may think.

This isn’t a “must-do” re-sign, but it’s one I’d applaud the front office for knowing he won’t cost much and could pay his dividends in the right row.

The Arizona Cardinals have some key players set to hit free agency this offseason, and there are five players that they must prioritize re-signing to ensure their continued success. Here are the five players the Cardinals must re-sign:

    1. Chandler Jones, DE – Jones has been a dominant force on the Cardinals’ defense since being acquired in a trade with the New England Patriots in 2016. He led the NFL in sacks in 2017 and has consistently been one of the team’s top pass rushers. Re-signing Jones should be the Cardinals’ top priority this offseason.

    2. Larry Fitzgerald, WR – Fitzgerald is a future Hall of Famer and a beloved figure in Arizona. Despite being in the twilight of his career, he still provides valuable leadership and production on the field. The Cardinals would be wise to bring him back for another season.

    3. Haason Reddick, LB – Reddick had a breakout season in 2020, recording 12.5 sacks and proving to be a versatile playmaker on defense. The Cardinals should look to lock him up long-term to solidify their linebacker corps.

    4. Patrick Peterson, CB – Peterson has been a cornerstone of the Cardinals’ defense for nearly a decade, earning eight Pro Bowl selections in his career. While he may not be the same player he once was, re-signing him would provide stability and experience in the secondary.

    5. Kenyan Drake, RB – Drake has been a productive running back for the Cardinals since being acquired in a trade with the Miami Dolphins in 2019. He has shown the ability to be a workhorse back and should be a priority re-signing for Arizona.

By re-signing these five key players, the Cardinals can maintain their competitive edge and continue to build towards a successful future.

  • High-Ranking Patriots Exec Reportedly Set To Resign After Mike Vrabel Hire

A change already took place in the New England Patriots coaching staff and one is coming to the front office as well.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss, who cited sources, reported Friday evening that executive vice president of football business Robyn Glaser is set to resign from her job with the Patriots. She spent 18 years with the franchise and was one of the team’s highest-ranking executives. Reiss noted that Glaser plans to work until mid-February before stepping away.

Glaser became a polarizing figure this past season as she added senior advisor to former coach Jerod Mayo among her responsibilities, which also included business negotiations, finance, HR, technology, legal, compliance, and league relationships, per MassLive’s Mark Daniels.

Bill Belichick made sure to point out Glaser at times during the 2024 campaign as things went sideways with New England with a second straight 4-13 season.

Glaser joined the Patriots in 2007 as a senior adviser to ownership and club counsel while Belichick was still in charge. She said in the AppleTV+ docuseries “The Dynasty” that on her first day on the job was when league executives and security were at One Patriot Place investigating the Spygate scandal.

Glaser worked her way up the organizational depth chart over the years, being promoted to vice president in 2011 and and senior vice president in 2018, per Reiss. Her title changed in 2022 when she became senior vice president, business affairs and chief administrative officer of football.

With Glaser’s impending departure, it feels like one of many soon-to-be changes coming to the Patriots this offseason with Vrabel now at the helm.

According to reports, a high-ranking executive within the New England Patriots organization is set to resign following the hiring of Mike Vrabel as the team’s new head coach. The executive, whose name has not been disclosed, has been a key figure within the Patriots front office for several years.

This news comes as a surprise to many within the football world, as the executive has been instrumental in the team’s success over the years. It is unclear what led to the decision to resign, but sources close to the situation have indicated that it may have been a result of disagreements over the coaching search process.

Mike Vrabel, a former Patriots player and defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans, was announced as the team’s new head coach earlier this week. His hiring was met with mixed reactions from fans and analysts, but it appears that the executive in question was not in favor of the decision.

As the Patriots prepare for a new era under Mike Vrabel, it remains to be seen how this shakeup within the front office will impact the team moving forward. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
