If you worked last year, you might have a tax refund check coming your way if you file. The Internal Revenue Service began accepting returns from taxpayers on Jan. 27.
According to IRS data, the bureau expects nearly 140 million Americans to file taxes. But when will that check or direct deposit arrive?
Here is what you need to know about tax deadlines, how to check your payment return status, and when to expect your return.
Where is my refund? How to check your tax return status
On the IRS.gov site, taxpayers who filed their returns can see their refund status on the “Where’s My Refund?” tool. To see the status, you must enter the following information:
Your Social Security or individual taxpayer ID number (ITIN)
Your filing status
The exact refund amount on your return
Once the information is entered, you will see one of the following:
Return Received – The IRS received your return and are processing it.
Refund Approved – The IRS approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
Refund Sent – The IRS sent the refund to your bank or you in the mail. It may take five days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.
How long will it take for my refund to be deposited?
The timeline for your refund depends on how you filed the tax return.
If you file electronically, your return is processed much faster than if you file a paper return and wait for a check. According to the IRS, most refunds are issued in less than three weeks.
The IRS advises taxpayers not to depend on receiving a refund by a specific date, particularly when making significant purchases or paying bills. Some returns may need further review, which could take more time.
Why is my refund delayed?
There is a bevy of reasons why a tax return gets delayed. Here are the most common reasons, as per the IRS:
The return has errors, is incomplete, or is affected by identity theft or fraud.
The return needs a correction to the child tax credit or recovery rebate credit amount.
The return has a claim filed for an earned income tax credit or additional child tax credit or includes a Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation PDF.
The time it takes a taxpayer’s bank or credit union to post the refund to the taxpayer’s account.
When is the last day to file taxes?
Federal income tax returns for 2024 must be filed by April 15, 2025. Americans residing overseas have an extended deadline of June 16, 2025, to file.
The IRS clarifies that the timestamp in your time zone when submitting your electronic return determines its timeliness. For those submitting paper returns, the IRS will consider them on time if they are correctly addressed, have sufficient postage, and are mailed and postmarked by the due date. For electronic filers, the deadline is 11:59 p.m. local time.
If you’re eagerly awaiting your tax refund from the IRS, you may be wondering, “Where is my refund?” Fortunately, there are easy ways to check the status of your tax return and find out when you can expect your money.
One of the simplest ways to check your refund status is to use the IRS’s “Where’s My Refund?” tool on their website. All you need to do is enter your Social Security number, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund. The tool will then provide you with the current status of your refund, including whether it has been processed, approved, or sent out for payment.
Another option is to call the IRS refund hotline at 1-800-829-1954. Make sure to have your Social Security number, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund on hand when you call.
It’s important to remember that the IRS typically issues refunds within 21 days of receiving your tax return. However, if you filed electronically, you can expect to receive your refund much sooner than if you filed by mail.
If you’re still waiting for your refund and the IRS refund tool or hotline doesn’t provide any information, it may be worth reaching out to a tax professional for assistance.
Don’t forget that the deadline for filing your taxes is April 15th, so be sure to submit your return on time to avoid any penalties or interest charges. And if you’re due a refund, make sure to check the status regularly so you can plan accordingly for when your money will be coming in.

In other news, it seems that González is edging closer to a move to Manchester City. The talented midfielder has been linked with a number of top clubs, but it looks like City have won the race for his signature. This could be a huge coup for Pep Guardiola’s side as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
Stay tuned for more updates as the deadline approaches!
Willian left Olympiakos in December after a short stint in Greece (Picture: Getty Images)
Veteran playmaker Willian is in talks to re-join Fulham, just six months after leaving the Cottagers.
The 36-year-old had spells in the Premier League with Chelsea, Arsenal and Fulham, most significantly with the Blues where he won two Premier League titles.
The Brazilian made 339 appearances for Chelsea, also lifting the FA Cup and Europa League trophy during his time at Stamford Bridge.
His stint at Arsenal was forgettable but was good for Fulham, before leaving for Olympiakos last summer.
Willian’s time in Greece did not go to plan, leaving the club in December after making just 11 appearances.
However, that has not put off one of his former clubs, with Sky Sports reporting that talks are ongoing to bring him back to Craven Cottage.
As the Brazil international is a free agent the deal does not need to be completed before Monday night’s transfer deadline, but the move is close to being completed.

The veteran turns 37 in August and has a wealth of experience across Europe, in his home country and at international level.
Willian has 70 caps for Brazil, winning the Copa America in 2019, and outside of the Premier League he has turned out for Corinthians, Shakhtar Donetsk, Anzhi Makhachkala and Corinthians
He won the Ukrainian Premier League four times with Shakhtar before moving to Russia and then Chelsea in 2013.

It has been an incredibly quiet transfer window for Fulham so far, with no significant arrivals or departures from Marco Silva’s squad.
The Cottagers have won two of their last three games, beating Newcastle 2-1 on Saturday to climb back up to ninth in the Premier League table.
According to reports, Premier League veteran Willian is in talks to make a shock return to his former club. The Brazilian winger, who spent several successful seasons at the club before moving to a new team, is said to be considering a move back to familiar surroundings.
Willian’s experience and skill on the pitch would be a valuable asset to his former club, who are reportedly keen on bringing him back to bolster their squad. The 33-year-old has proven himself as a top performer in the Premier League and his return would undoubtedly be a boost for the team.
Fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation of the deal, with many excited at the prospect of seeing Willian back in familiar colors. If the transfer goes through, it could be a significant move for both the player and his former club as they look to achieve success in the upcoming season.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as negotiations continue between Willian and his former club. Will we see the Premier League veteran back in action at his old stomping grounds once again? Only time will tell.
NBANBAWhat could the Dallas Mavericks have gotten if they had shopped Luka around the league? “It probably would have been the biggest haul in NBA history,” said one NBA executive.
“Great fucking job—helluva job keeping it under wraps,” a Western Conference team executive told The Ringer on Sunday. “It’s incredible. I take my hat off to Nico.”
Nico is Nico Harrison, the Mavericks’ team president, who consummated the stunning deal late Saturday night sending Doncic, the 25-year-old basketball maestro and perennial MVP candidate, to the Los Angeles Lakers for a remarkably modest package built around veteran star Anthony Davis, who is six years older than Doncic and not nearly as talented.
Breaking Down the Luka Doncic Deal
Breaking Down the Luka Doncic Deal
The deal was complete before rival teams even knew Doncic was available. It was negotiated under a virtual cone of silence, by two longtime friends, Harrison and Lakers executive Rob Pelinka, without a word leaking—a rare occurrence in today’s NBA. The secrecy was absolutely elite. The actual dealmaking by the Mavericks? Er, not so much.
“A nightmare,” wrote Tim Cowlishaw, the longtime Dallas Morning News columnist.
“The return sucks. Your job is to get the best return,” said another Western Conference team executive.
“It’s shortsighted,” said an Eastern Conference team executive, adding: “If you want to do this, shop the guy. The deals you could have gotten for him are ridiculous.”
By Harrison’s own telling at a press conference on Sunday, this was always a two-team negotiation. He made no other inquiries, solicited no other offers, before making the deal. Which raises the obvious question: How rich a return could the Mavs have netted if they’d actually done their due diligence? We’ll never know, of course, but rival executives had no shortage of reasonable suggestions that could have topped Davis, Max Christie, and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick.
Start with the San Antonio Spurs, who surely would have loved the chance to pair Doncic with Victor Wembanyama, and who could have offered some combination of talented young players (Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan) and oodles of first-round draft picks (they had 12, before their Sunday-night trade for De’Aaron Fox).
Or look to Brooklyn, where the Nets have their own massive supply of first-round picks (they have 15). “You’re telling me Brooklyn wouldn’t have given up every pick they have, Cam Johnson, and Nic Claxton?” said the Eastern Conference executive. “I think it’s irresponsible the way [the Mavericks] acted.”
Or look to the Houston Rockets, another team flush with young talent and first-round picks, including the rights to valuable Phoenix Suns picks in 2027 and possibly 2029. Could the Mavericks have pried loose Amen Thompson and Jalen Green?
Oklahoma City seemingly has everything it needs—including MVP favorite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander—but would the Thunder have hung up on a Doncic trade offer? Would they have parted with Jalen Williams, Isaiah Hartenstein, and some portion of their 13 first-round picks? “They would have considered it,” said the Eastern Conference executive.
Cleveland is having its best season in years, fueled by three All-Stars, though none as gifted as Doncic. What if the Mavericks had asked for Darius Garland and Evan Mobley?
The Miami Heat are at a crossroads, and could trade Jimmy Butler at any minute. Would Pat Riley have offered Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and picks for Doncic?
What if the Mavericks had asked Minnesota for Anthony Edwards? Or offered Doncic to the Sacramento Kings—who passed on Doncic in the 2018 draft—for Fox and Domantas Sabonis?
Utah played a facilitator role in the Doncic-Davis swap, netting Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks. But what if the Mavericks had instead offered Luka to the Jazz and asked for some portion of Utah’s 11 first-round picks? Or waited until this offseason so they could include Lauri Markkanen?
“I’m not exaggerating here,” said the second Western Conference executive. “It probably would have been the biggest haul in NBA history,” if the Mavericks had canvassed the league for the best offer. “This dude is a perennial MVP [candidate] at 25, most likely heading into his prime. It would have been four firsts, three [pick] swaps, two awesome players, one young guy who may hit.”
Said the Eastern Conference executive: “Every team in the league would have offered everything they could.” And the Mavericks had the luxury of knowing they had an offer they liked, from the Lakers, already in hand as a fallback.
One executive pushed back a bit on the “shop for better offers” approach, noting that it increases the risk of talks leaking to the media. If that happens, he said, “You raise a million flags, and open yourself up to scrutiny. You give the player the ability to dictate terms.” But, other executives noted, it is possible to target at least a few teams and keep discussions quiet.
Until now, Harrison—who in 2021 left a longtime role as a Nike executive to run the Mavericks—had enjoyed mostly positive reviews for his leadership of the franchise. His bold trade for Kyrie Irving in February 2023 was a defining moment, a risky move that initially drew criticism but was ultimately vindicated when Irving helped get Dallas to the Finals. Along the way, Harrison’s front office also made shrewd moves to obtain the draft rights to Dereck Lively II and to acquire key veterans P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford, all of whom became essential contributors to that Finals run.
But the return for Doncic looks abysmal compared to the draft capital in other recent blockbusters trades—from Donovan Mitchell (three first-round picks and two swaps) and Rudy Gobert (four firsts, one swap) in 2022, to Kevin Durant (four firsts, one swap) in 2023, to the Mikal Bridges deal (five firsts and a swap) last summer.
Even the executive who praised Harrison’s secrecy conceded, “I just wish he had gotten three more picks” in the deal. The Mavericks acquired just one, the Lakers’ first-round selection in 2029, plus Christie, a promising defender who will turn just 22 next week. As some sources reasoned, the Mavericks surely viewed Davis—a nine-time All-Star and five-time All-Defensive team selection—as being worth four first-round picks himself.
But that was among the more generous interpretations that rival executives offered on Sunday. The fact is, Dallas swapped one of the best players on earth—still in his pre-prime and less than a year removed from leading the Mavs to the NBA Finals—for an oft-injured big man who will turn 32 in March. Davis should boost the Mavericks defense, as Harrison said on Sunday. But the Mavericks offense will now be almost entirely reliant on Irving, who will turn 33 next month and who has never succeeded in the postseason without a bigger star next to him.
With Doncic, the Mavericks had a 10-year window to build a contender. Now, as Harrison himself awkwardly noted in Sunday’s press conference, “The future to me is three, four years from now. Ten years from now, I don’t know. They’ll probably bury me and [coach Jason Kidd] by then. Or we’ll bury ourselves.”
It might not take that long. Figuratively speaking, Harrison’s peers already have the shovels out.
Howard Beck got his basketball education covering the Shaq-and-Kobe Lakers for the L.A. Daily News starting in 1997, and has been writing and reporting about the NBA ever since. He’s also covered the league for The New York Times, Bleacher Report, and Sports Illustrated. He’s a co-host of ‘The Real Ones.’
The Luka Doncic Trade Baffles NBA Execs: “The Return Sucks”
In a shocking move that has left NBA executives scratching their heads, the Dallas Mavericks have traded away their star player Luka Doncic in exchange for a package that many are calling underwhelming.
Doncic, who has quickly emerged as one of the league’s brightest young stars, was expected to be a cornerstone of the Mavericks’ franchise for years to come. However, in a move that has left fans and analysts alike stunned, the team has decided to part ways with the 22-year-old phenom.
The return for Doncic has left many wondering what the Mavericks were thinking, as the package they received in return has been widely panned as lackluster. “The return sucks,” one NBA executive said when asked about the trade. “I can’t believe they gave up a player like Doncic for what they got in return.”
While the specifics of the trade have not been officially announced, rumors are swirling that the Mavericks received a handful of draft picks and role players in exchange for Doncic. Many believe that this is simply not enough to justify giving up a player of Doncic’s caliber.
As the dust settles on this shocking trade, one thing is clear: the Mavericks’ decision to trade away Luka Doncic has left NBA executives and fans alike baffled. Only time will tell if this move will ultimately pay off for the franchise, but for now, it seems as though the return for Doncic has left much to be desired.

I’m finding myself in the same situation as “Dead To Me,” which is, hey, I know I’m supposed to be around for one season, but how do we get to continue this party? I’d love to. I love Dan. I love his writing. Everybody on set is a kind human being that’s super talented, top of their game. It’s very rare to be a part of something that feels brave enough and courageous enough to take risks and to try to tell a story that maybe is gonna make us ask a lot of questions about ourselves and our future, and in a time where content is kind of risk-averse and you don’t get as many original stories anymore. I would love to do it again. I don’t know how that would work, but open to the suggestions.
What This Means For Paradise
There Are Numerous Possibilities For James Marsden’s Season 2 Return
Marsden’s comments hint that, while President Bradford’s murder in Paradise may suggest a definitive end, there could still be ways to bring him back in future seasons. His mention of Dead To Me is promising, as he played twin brothers in the Netflix series, allowing him to remain on the show even after his character was killed off. If Paradise is renewed for a second season, the writers may be able to find a unique way to keep his character involved, whether through more flashbacks or perhaps a different idea entirely.
Paradise’s three-episode premiere on Hulu features a shocking science-fiction twist and a cliffhanger that deepens the murder mystery.
Another factor in Marsden’s potential return is the narrative structure of the show. Given Paradise‘s existential and reality-bending themes, there could be room for unconventional storylines that could make his reappearance plausible. However, at the time of writing, there is still no official confirmation for season 2 of Paradise. If the series gains strong viewership and critical acclaim, there could be a high demand for a second season, giving the creators more reasons to expand the world and bring back fan-favorite characters.
Our Take On Marsden’s Potential Return
A Second Season Could Elevate Paradise’s Impact
James Marsden’s passion for the series speaks volumes about the quality of Paradise and the creative team behind it. If a second season is confirmed, Marsden’s return could be an exciting development, especially with Marsden and Brown’s chemistry being praised as one of the best parts of the show. Ultimately, the future of Paradise’s cast of characterswill depend on audience reception and Hulu’s final decision, since the creator already plans for Paradise to go on for two more seasons.
Paradise Star James Marsden Addresses Season 2 Return Chances Despite His Character’s Shocking Fate
Fans of the hit show Paradise were left stunned after the shocking fate of James Marsden’s character in the season 1 finale. Despite his character’s apparent demise, many fans are still holding out hope for his return in season 2.
In a recent interview, James Marsden addressed the speculation surrounding his character’s potential return, saying, “I can’t reveal too much, but I will say that anything is possible in the world of Paradise. The creators have crafted a truly unique and unpredictable story, so you never know what twists and turns may come next.”
Marsden went on to praise the show’s writers for their creativity and willingness to take risks, hinting that there may be more surprises in store for fans in the upcoming season.
While Marsden’s return to Paradise remains uncertain, one thing is for sure – fans will be eagerly awaiting any news or updates on the fate of his character. Stay tuned for more updates on season 2 of Paradise and the potential return of James Marsden.

You can check out the look at Prime Video’s Reacher Season 3 beginning at around the 3:05 mark:
Reacher Season 3: Some Things You Should Know…
Back in January 2024, we learned that the third season would be tackling Lee Child‘s seventh novel, 2003’s Persuader, with Reacher going undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past. In February, we learned that Anthony Michael Hall and Sonya Cassidy were joining Ritchson and the returning Maria Sten (Frances Neagley) during the currently-in-production season. Hall’s Zachary Beck is a formidable & successful businessman – and a widow and single father of a 20-year-old son, Richard – who owns a rug import company that Reacher believes is a cover for some shady dealings. Cassidy’s Susan Duffy is an extremely intelligent and tough DEA agent from Boston with a sharp and sarcastic sense of humor.
In March 2024, we learned that Brian Tee had joined the cast in the series regular role of Quinn. A physically imposing and intimidating character, Quinn was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army whom Reacher (Ritchson) investigated a decade prior when he sold military secrets to hostile nations. In addition, Johnny Berchtold was cast in the series regular role of Richard Beck, a sensitive and artistic college student who lost his mother when he was young and is the only son of businessman Zachary Beck (Hall). Five years ago, he was the victim of a traumatic kidnapping that left him mutilated.
Roberto Montesinos‘ series regular Guillermo Villanueva is a DEA agent on the verge of retirement who has served as the mentor and father figure of Agent Susan Duffy (Cassidy). Paunchy with bad knees and a good-natured sense of humor, Villanueva loves and cares about Duffy – even though they bust each other’s chops all the time. Daniel David Stewart‘s recurring Steven Elliot is a clean-cut rookie DEA agent – a lovable guy who’s fresh-faced, new to the job, and still learning. In addition, we learned that “The Dutch Giant” Olivier Richters (Black Widow, Borderlands) has joined the cast as Paulie – one of Beck’s bodyguards and 7 feet, 2 inches of trouble for Jack.

She directed some of her vitriol toward social influencers, if only because they look cuter than she does with little effort.
“I want you to do a TikTok dance next to a helicopter,” she said.
But Glaser’s underdog persona doesn’t resonate like it used do. First off, she’s far too fabulous looking these days to play the ugly duckling. On “FBoy Island,” the reality dating series she hosts and produces, she’s just as hot as the bikini-clad contestants.
And it’s hard to feel sorry for someone who, at this moment, just might be the most talked about comedian on the planet.
Glaser was more effective when exploring darker themes that have nothing to do with her quest for eternal youth.
She dared to touch on Wednesday’s plane crash in Washington, D.C., that killed 67 people. She also had material about kinky pornography and pedophilia.
Comedian Nikki Glaser, fresh off her hosting gig at the Golden Globes, made a raunchy return to Minnesota with a hilarious stand-up show that had the audience in stitches. Glaser, known for her no-holds-barred sense of humor, didn’t hold back as she touched on everything from dating to sex to her own personal experiences.
Fans were thrilled to see Glaser back on stage, delivering her signature brand of comedy with unapologetic honesty and wit. The sold-out show was a hit, with audience members raving about her sharp wit and fearless approach to taboo topics.
After her successful stint at the Golden Globes, it’s clear that Glaser is on fire and shows no signs of slowing down. With her quick wit and fearless humor, she continues to push boundaries and entertain audiences around the country.
Nearly four months after suffering a wrist injury in training camp, Dante Exum has made his season debut. Exum, who was a key cog on last year’s team during the regular season, underwent wrist surgery on Oct. 9 that held him out for the first 48 games of the 2024-25 campaign. His return comes at a welcomed time, as the Dallas Mavericks are on the road for their longest road trip of the season. After winning in New Orleans by one point, Dallas welcomed Exum back in a 117-102 loss to the Detroit Pistons. All things considered, it was a successful debut for Dante. In his 14 minutes, Exum was rusty, as you’d expect. However, he moved well and didn’t appear to struggle with the wrist at all. As Exum starts to works his way into a role with this year’s team, I’m here to tell you that his addition back to the lineup is bigger than you think.
Master connector
Part of what made Dante Exum such an excellent piece during the regular season last year was his ability to play the chameleon role. Like a chameleon changes colors to fit the environment around it, Exum was able to work in a variety of different lineups and roles due to his versatility. At 6’6”, Exum is big enough to play all the way up to the small forward spot, while having the ball handling skills to play all the way down to the on-ball initiator.
When Exum played with both Luka and Kyrie at the same time, he worked in essence as the small forward. In almost 400 possessions with that trio on the floor, Dallas had a whopping +23.9 net rating, with an explosive 132.6 offensive rating and a stingy 108.6 defensive rating.
With just one of Doncic or Irving on the floor, Exum can slide into that secondary ball handler role, and the Mavericks thrived in those lineups as well. In over 1,000 possessions with an Exum and Doncic backcourt and Irving on the bench, the Mavericks enjoyed a +13.8 net rating, buoyed by an offensive rating of nearly 126 points per 100 possessions. Remember that five-game stretch that Dante put together with Kyrie Irving out of the lineup due to a freak injury he suffered against the Portland Trail Blazers?
don’t think I’ll ever forget this five-game stretch from Dante Exum last year:
The Exum/Irving backcourt data is a bit fuzzier, since that duo was tethered to Tim Hardaway Jr. the majority of the time. In just 450 possessions with Luka off & Kyrie and Exum on court, the Mavs were -2.5 points per 100 possessions, mainly due to a paltry 120.5 defensive rating.
The reason I have hope for those lineups now is pretty simple: replacing Tim Hardaway Jr. with Quentin Grimes, Klay Thompson or Naji Marshall. Grimes provides the defensive chops that Hardaway lacked, while also shooting 40% from deep. We know what Klay Thompson does to defenses, that spacing is key for Irving and Exum to operate. And lastly, Naji Marshall functions a lot like Exum does as a guy who just connects dots for this team. Having two guys out there who can shape shift into roles that are needed is a valuable commodity.
A lessening burden on the rest of the back court
The biggest thing that Dante Exum’s (and eventually, Luka Doncic’s) return provides is purely anecdotal. Dante Exum lessens the burden on players who have been heavily relied upon lately. When Exum gets his legs back underneath him, his play will mean that the Mavericks could have some leeway if some of their usual guards or forwards are having off nights. With him in the fold, the Mavericks have an extra option if someone like Spencer Dinwiddie or Jaden Hardy are struggling on the ball. Same goes if it’s Grimes, Thompson or Marshall at the combo guard or forward spot: Exum has the ability to soak up some of those minutes.
The Mavericks need able bodies in the worst way right now. Exum is one of the more versatile players that they have, given his size and ability to play multiple spots. He’s no slouch defensively, either, which will certainly help what Dallas does on that end of the floor. Dante is able to compliment a variety of Mavericks lineups, which given how much shuffling has gone on this year, is going to be a huge asset for this team. Dallas, for the first time in a while, is starting to get healthier. That should be a scary thought for the rest of the West.
Dante Exum’s return to the Dallas Mavericks could be the missing piece that helps them connect the dots and reach their full potential. Exum, a versatile guard known for his defensive prowess and playmaking abilities, brings a unique skill set to the team that could complement and elevate the Mavericks’ already talented roster.
One of the key areas where Exum can make a significant impact is on the defensive end. His length, athleticism, and quickness allow him to guard multiple positions effectively, providing the Mavericks with a lockdown defender who can disrupt opposing offenses and create turnovers. With Exum in the lineup, the Mavericks can become a more cohesive and cohesive defensive unit, leading to more stops and transition opportunities.
Offensively, Exum’s ability to handle the ball and create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates can help the Mavericks improve their ball movement and spacing. His vision and passing skills can help unlock the full potential of players like Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, leading to more open looks and easy baskets. Additionally, Exum’s ability to drive to the basket and finish at the rim can provide the Mavericks with another scoring threat and help take some pressure off their star players.
Overall, Dante Exum’s return to the Dallas Mavericks has the potential to help the team connect the dots and reach new heights. His defensive prowess, playmaking abilities, and overall versatility make him a valuable addition to the roster and could be the key to unlocking the Mavericks’ full potential. With Exum in the lineup, the Mavericks have the opportunity to become a more well-rounded and dangerous team that can compete with the best in the league.
