Ryan Reynolds faces renewed scrutiny over alleged behavior as Blake Lively battles legal drama with Justin Baldoni
Ryan Reynolds, celebrated for his portrayal of the anti hero Deadpool, finds himself in the public eye once again after past claims by his Deadpool co-star TJ Miller were brought back into the spotlight. The resurfaced allegations come amid an escalating legal battle involving Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, and filmmaker Justin Baldoni.
In 2022, during an episode of The Adam Carolla Show, TJ Miller accused Reynolds of being “horrifically mean” to him on the set of Deadpool. Recalling an incident, Miller claimed Reynolds, while in character, told him, “You know what’s great about you, Weasel? You’re not the star, but you do just enough exposition that it’s funny, and then we can leave and get back to the real movie.” While Miller described the interaction as “weird,” he maintained there was no lingering animosity but admitted he would not work with Reynolds again. Later, Miller revealed Reynolds had reached out via email to clarify the misunderstanding, insisting their relationship was amicable.
These comments have resurfaced amid a separate controversy involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the director of It Ends With Us. Blake Lively has accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and fostering a “hostile work environment” during the film’s production. Baldoni, however, has denied the allegations and countered with a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Blake Lively, Reynolds, and her publicist, Leslie Soane.
Baldoni’s lawsuit claims Blake Lively took over the creative process and alleges she forced him and his family to stay in a basement holding area during the film’s premiere. In contrast, Lively’s legal team dismissed Baldoni’s lawsuit as a classic example of DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender), stating, Reportedly the evidence will show that Sony asked Ms. Blake Lively to oversee Sony’s cut of the film, which they then selected for distribution, and it was a magnificent success.
Ryan Reynolds, known for his charming and witty persona, is facing renewed scrutiny over alleged behavior as his wife, Blake Lively, battles legal drama with actor Justin Baldoni. The allegations against Reynolds come at a time when Hollywood is reckoning with issues of toxic masculinity and inappropriate behavior. While details of the allegations are still emerging, they have cast a shadow over the actor’s public image.
Meanwhile, Lively is embroiled in a legal battle with Baldoni over a contract dispute, adding further stress to the couple’s already tumultuous situation.
As fans and industry insiders alike watch the drama unfold, many are wondering how Reynolds and Lively will navigate these challenges and whether their relationship will withstand the pressure.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are hitting back at Lively’s “It Ends with Us” co-star Justin Baldoni, after the actor’s legal team released behind-the-scenes footage from the controversial film.
In a letter to Judge Lewis J. Liman in the Southern District of New York on Tuesday, attorneys for the A-list couple accused Baldoni and his legal team of continuing their “harassing and retaliatory media campaign” against Lively with “almost daily media statements or other releases to the press,” according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.
The filing comes after Baldoni’s attorneys released behind-the-scenes footage on Tuesday of an intimate scene Baldoni and Lively performed in the romantic drama. In an emailed statement to USA TODAY on Tuesday, Lively’s legal team blasted the footage’s release as a “stunt” by Baldoni’s attorneys that reinforces “misleading media narratives.”
Before Tuesday’s letter, Lively and Reynolds’ legal team sent a cease-and-desist letter to Baldoni’s attorney Bryan Freedman in December 2024 requesting that he refrain from making “defamatory and retaliatory statements relating to Ms. Lively.” Around this time, a cease-and-desist was also sent to Baldoni and his business associates asking them to halt “all unlawful conduct toward the Lively-Reynolds parties and their affiliates.”
“Virtually every day since, Mr. Freedman has given television interviews, appeared on podcasts, issued inflammatory written statements, and leaked information … to the Hollywood press and tabloid media,” Lively and Reynolds’ attorneys said Tuesday.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
“Those statements not only continue the campaign of retaliation that was the subject of Ms. Lively’s First Cease and Desist, but they contain numerous new false statements about Ms. Lively and others.”
In response, Lively and Reynolds’ attorneys are seeking an “appropriate protective order” to curb Freedman’s non-litigation statements, as well as a hearing to “address the appropriate conduct of counsel moving forward.”
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ attorneys: Media releases will ‘prejudice’ legal battle
Among the numerous media releases made by Freedman, Lively and Reynolds’ legal team cite a video of behind-the-scenes footage from “It Ends with Us” released on Tuesday.
The nearly 10-minute clip shows the actors’ characters, Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni) and Lily Bloom (Lively), slow dancing during a scene referenced in Lively’s December complaint against Baldoni, which preceded the actress’s federal lawsuit.
As further evidence of an alleged harassment campaign, the couple’s attorneys also referenced Freedman’s previous announcement to launch a website relating to Baldoni’s federal lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds. The website will reportedly contain “all correspondences as well as relevant videos that quash (Lively’s) claims.”
“As Ms. Lively’s counsel have attempted, repeatedly, to caution Mr. Freedman, federal litigation must be conducted in court and according to the relevant rules of professional conduct,” Lively and Reynolds’ attorneys said.
“His conduct threatens to, and will, materially prejudice both the Lively Case and the Wayfarer Case by tainting the jury pool, because his statements are deliberately aimed at undermining the ‘character, credibility, (and) reputation’ of numerous relevant parties and likewise includes ‘information the lawyer knows or reasonably should know is likely to be inadmissible as evidence in a trial,’ thereby creating a substantial risk of prejudice not just for Ms. Lively, but for numerous other parties in the matters.”
USA TODAY has reached out to Freedman for comment.
Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively’s legal drama, explained
The former co-stars both filed lawsuits on New Year’s Eve rehashing their allegations of working together: Lively’s federal suit mirrors a complaint filed in California and chronicled in a viral New York Times report, titled “‘We Can Bury Anyone’: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine.”
The “Gossip Girl” alum alleges Baldoni engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct in and out of the workplace and orchestrated a smear campaign against her for addressing his purported behavior.
Meanwhile, Baldoni’s $250 million suit challenged The New York Times’ reporting on Lively’s allegations, claiming the publication relied on “‘cherry-picked’ and altered communications stripped of necessary context and deliberately spliced to mislead.”
Baldoni also filed a $400 million federal lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds on Jan. 16, accusing the couple of defamation and extortion.

According to recent reports, Hollywood power couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are reportedly seeking a gag order in the ongoing legal case involving their close friend and fellow actor Justin Baldoni. The case, which has been making headlines for weeks, involves allegations of fraud and breach of contract against Baldoni.Lively and Reynolds, who have been vocal supporters of Baldoni throughout the legal proceedings, are said to be concerned about the negative publicity surrounding the case and the impact it may have on Baldoni’s reputation and career. The couple is reportedly seeking to prevent any further leaks of information to the media in order to protect Baldoni’s privacy and ensure a fair trial.
While the details of the case remain murky, Lively and Reynolds have made it clear that they stand by Baldoni and believe in his innocence. The couple’s request for a gag order has sparked speculation among fans and industry insiders, with many wondering what secrets may be revealed if the case goes to trial.
As the legal battle continues to unfold, it seems that Lively and Reynolds will stop at nothing to protect their friend and ensure that justice is served. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

‘I hate’… Ryan Reynolds reveals what he doesn’t like about Tom Brady ahead of Wrexham vs Birmingham City
Wrexham and Birmingham City clash for the second time this season on Thursday evening and Ryan Reynolds should be desperate to get one over on Tom Brady.
American ownership in English football has grown substantially over the last decade, with Wrexham one of the teams to have benefited most from this.
Along with Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds purchased the Red Dragons in 2021 and the duo have completely transformed the club on and off the field.
They were only playing National League football 18 months ago but are now competing for a place in the Championship in 2025/26.
Standing in their way, however, are a high-flying Birmingham City side currently owned by NFL legend, Tom Brady.
Birmingham beat Wrexham 3-1 in the reverse fixture last year in what was a star-studded event.
Photo by Catherine Ivill – AMA/Getty Images What Ryan Reynolds hates about Tom Brady ahead of Wrexham vs Birmingham City
Brady sent a message to Wrexham fans and McElhenney after his side came out on top in that game.
Now, ahead of this week’s meeting, Reynolds has been speaking about the former NFL player.
The American actor was not in attendance for the previous game but revealed he was smack-talking Brady and David Beckham, who attended the tie together.
He also revealed the one thing he hates about the pair, stating: “Well there is some of that [smack talk]. I wasn’t able to be at the Birmingham match but he was sitting with Beckham and I was texting both of them, mostly failing bone structure and age-related sort of material but it was not my finest moment.
“But I hate that they’re [Brady and Beckham] both kind people in real life by the way.
“So yeah, there is definitely a lot of anticipation. Would I love to be Tom Brady at sports? Yes, the answer is yes, an emphatic yes. Would Rob? Maybe more, I think more.”
Ryan Reynolds makes Wrexham Premier League claim
Should Wrexham cause an upset on Thursday evening, it will boost their chances of going up massively.
A third-straight promotion would be historic but Reynolds already has eyes on the Premier League.
In the same interview, he spoke about wanting Wrexham to be a ‘unique’ side in the English top-flight.
He said: “I mean, 10 years from now… we would be morons to not want to see this club in the Premier League but to also be unique in that everything about the place has stayed true to what it originally was – I mean, that’s kind of the perfect scenario.
“So, 10 years, I hope Wrexham is Wrexham and I hope the change that has taken place is for the better and that people are proud of it, and that the change doesn’t feel like it was too big, too soon because there’s an underdog nature to the town.”

I hate Tom Brady: Ryan Reynolds reveals what he doesn’t like about the football star ahead of Wrexham vs Birmingham CityIn a recent interview, actor and Wrexham FC co-owner Ryan Reynolds didn’t hold back when discussing his feelings towards NFL quarterback Tom Brady. Reynolds, who is known for his witty humor and candid opinions, didn’t mince words when asked about his thoughts on the seven-time Super Bowl champion.
“I hate Tom Brady,” Reynolds stated bluntly. “I mean, the guy is just too good. It’s like he’s not even human. How can someone be that successful and still be so annoyingly perfect?”
Reynolds went on to explain that while he respects Brady’s talent and work ethic, there’s something about the football star that rubs him the wrong way.
“I think it’s just his aura of invincibility,” Reynolds mused. “He’s like a superhero out there on the field, and it’s intimidating. Plus, he’s always so polished and put together. It’s just not fair.”
Despite his disdain for Brady, Reynolds made it clear that he’s looking forward to the upcoming match between Wrexham and Birmingham City, where he hopes to see his team emerge victorious.
“I may not be a fan of Tom Brady, but I am a fan of good competition,” Reynolds concluded. “And I have no doubt that Wrexham will give Birmingham City a run for their money. Let’s show them what we’re made of!”

Kim Reynolds, Tim Walz offer contrasting fiscal paths
- John Hendrickson is policy director of Iowans for Tax Relief Foundation.
- John Phelan is an economist with Minnesota’s Center of the American Experiment.
Iowa and Minnesota are Midwestern neighbors who have taken vastly different fiscal policy paths in recent years. They have arrived at quite different destinations, with one looking at lower taxes and a budget surplus and the other at higher taxes and a budget deficit. They illustrate the alternative policy paths from which the United States must choose.
In Iowa, Gov. Kim Reynolds has positioned Iowa as a national leader in fiscal responsibility. Along with the Legislature, she has prioritized conservative budgeting, leading to multi-year budget surpluses, full reserve funds, and a Taxpayer Relief Fund nearing $4 billion. These responsible practices enabled Iowa’s historic income tax reforms.
This is in complete contrast with Minnesota under the leadership of Gov. Tim Walz. Entering 2023 with a forecast budget surplus of $18 billion, Walz and the Democratic-controlled Legislature not only spent every penny of that — increasing spending, in real terms, by 23% per person since 2019 — but hiked taxes and fees by another $10 billion on top of that. This explosion of spending has now landed the state government with a forecast deficit of $5 billion for the 2028-2029 budget biennium.
These contrasting approaches are why Reynolds has been recognized by the Cato Institute as the most fiscally conservative governor in the nation, while Walz received the lowest ranking.
Conservative budgeting is at the heart of Iowa’s pro-growth income tax reforms. The Hawkeye State once had some of the highest income tax rates in the nation, but, since 2018, Reynolds has made tax reform a priority.
Iowa’s progressive income tax with the top rate of 8.98% was one of the highest in the nation, and the top corporate rate of 12% was the highest. Now, Iowa has a flat 3.8% income tax and a 7.1% corporate tax, which is scheduled to be reduced further until it reaches a flat 5.5%. Reynolds has stated that income tax reform is far from over and seeks further rate reductions.
Fiscal conservatism has strengthened the state’s budgetary foundation, while still allowing it to meet spending priorities. In fiscal year 2024, Iowa posted a budget surplus of $2.05 billion, projected to increase to $2.25 billion in fiscal year 2025. Further, the Cash Reserve Fund and Economic Emergency Fund, Iowa’s primary reserve accounts, are filled to their statutory maximums, with a combined balance of nearly $962 million. Iowa’s Taxpayer Relief Fund currently holds $3.7 billion.
Reynolds has also made reforming and reducing the size and scope of government a priority. The Legislature passed the first major reforms to state government in nearly 40 years, reducing the number of executive-level agencies from 37 to 16. Numerous boards and commissions are also being reviewed and will either be eliminated or consolidated. This is making government more efficient and reducing bureaucracy. In less than 18 months taxpayers saved about $130 million as a result of the reforms and additional savings are expected as the process continues.
Walz, meanwhile, inherited some of the highest tax rates in the Unites States — a 9.85% top rate of income tax and 9.80% for the corporate tax, now the highest in the nation — but has worked, with Democrats in the Legislature, to increase them, with measures such as a top rate of income tax of 12.5%, which would be the highest in the country, and the imposition of a “Global Intangible Low Tax Income” burden on companies.
He has expanded the size and scope of government. A new Paid Family and Medical Leave scheme, for example, imposes a tax of 0.7% on each worker, but a state commission found that this will need to increase by 23% in four years to keep the scheme solvent. It micromanages employment relations across the state and requires the hiring of hundreds of new state employees.
Because of this fiscal incontinence, the state is forecast to see a budget surplus of $616 million at the end of the 2026-2027 biennium turn into a deficit of $3.5 billion in 2028-2029, or $5.1 billion if inflation is factored in. Budget battle lines are already being drawn in St. Paul.
As the United States faces mounting fiscal pressures from increasing deficits and rising interest rates, Iowa and Minnesota offer examples of the drastically different choices policymakers in Washington could make. Do they follow Reynolds’ path of fiscal conservatism to lower taxes and balanced budgets? Or Walz’s path of higher taxes, higher spending, and higher deficits?
John Hendrickson is policy director of Iowans for Tax Relief Foundation. John Phelan is an economist with Minnesota’s Center of the American Experiment.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz have taken different approaches to fiscal policy, with Reynolds advocating for tax cuts and smaller government while Walz focuses on investing in education and infrastructure.Reynolds, a Republican, has pushed for tax cuts and deregulation as a way to spur economic growth in Iowa. She has also focused on reducing government spending and streamlining government operations. Reynolds believes that lower taxes and less government intervention will attract businesses and create jobs in the state.
On the other hand, Walz, a Democrat, has prioritized investing in education, healthcare, and infrastructure in Minnesota. He has proposed increasing funding for public schools and expanding access to affordable healthcare. Walz believes that investing in these areas will improve the quality of life for all Minnesotans and help the state remain competitive in the global economy.
The contrasting fiscal paths of Reynolds and Walz highlight the different priorities and philosophies of the two governors. While Reynolds believes in smaller government and lower taxes, Walz is focused on investing in public services and infrastructure. It remains to be seen which approach will lead to greater economic prosperity and quality of life for their respective states.

#Kim #Reynolds #Tim #Walz #offer #contrasting #fiscal #pathsThis Historical Western Miniseries Starred Tom Berenger, Burt Reynolds, and Luke Perry
When it comes to bringing the Western genre to television, perhaps the most consistent medium for success is the miniseries. These productions often contain visuals and performers of feature film-level quality, with a story and length that surpass them. A miniseries allows a story to develop over an extended (albeit still limited) time frame but without the long-term commitment of standard television. Western miniseries are great explorations of the scope and scale of the genre and can offer a distinct outlook on historical events. As such, the Hallmark Channel miniseries, Johnson County War, retold the infamous titular Wyoming conflict back in 2002, with a stellar cast that included Tom Berenger, Burt Reynolds, and Luke Perry. While this two-part event has largely fallen out of the public eye, it’s one worth revisiting for a few reasons…
‘Johnson County War’ Is a Loose Adaptation of Historical Events
If you’ve ever heard of the “Johnson County War,” it’s probably because of the infamous Michael Cimino flick, Heaven’s Gate. The historical range war was so notable that it has served as the backdrop for plenty of other Western yarns over the years, including both Shane and Pale Rider. Here in the 2002 miniseries, Johnson County War, the event tackled the conflict with a stellar cast that just eats up the material. It follows three Wyoming brothers — Tom Berenger’s Cain, Luke Perry’s Harry, and Adam Storke‘s Dale Hammett — as they struggle to survive in the cattle business after their more wealthy competitors attempt to run them out. Members of the Cheyenne Social Club, including Dynasty‘s Christopher Cazenove as Lord Peter, move heaven and earth to dishearten and destroy the small bands of homesteaders, labeling them cattle rustlers, who have claimed land that they want for their own.
While the actual Johnson County War was an event that spanned several years and didn’t center on a single family of homesteaders or ranchers, the 2002 Hallmark series is actually an adaptation of the Frederick Manfred novel Riders of Judgment rather than the historical record itself. Manfred’s fictional account borrows plenty from the first and second-hand accounts of the Wyoming-based range war, but it centers on a fictional protagonist in Cain Hammett (Berenger). Of course, Cain was in part based on the real-life homesteader Nate Champion, one of the first men to be targeted by the cattle barons and their hired guns for resisting the cattlemen’s associations’ attempts to remove them from the land. Tom Berenger plays the part well, as Cain is not only a man beloved by the community and a natural leader, but a morally upright one who finds himself on the right side of history.
While the specifics of Johnson County War are largely historical, the general events are pretty true to what really did occur during the historic conflict. The tensions between honest, hard-working homesteaders and the greedy cattlemen who attempt to take the land by force are high here, and you never know who is going to find themselves on the wrong end of the barrel. Not only that, but characters like Luke Perry’s Harry Hammett find themselves conflicted by the happenings in Johnson County, especially since he is secretly working with Lord Peter’s foreman Jessie Jacklin (Jack Conley) to scrape some heads off the Englishman’s stock. This isn’t to mention the romantic bond between Cain and his sister-in-law (Dale’s wife) Rory (Michelle Forbes), who holds a torch for the eldest Hammett despite her marriage to his brother, and Cain’s own unwillingness to sully his honor.

‘Lonesome Dove’ Scribe Larry McMurtry Co-Wrote ‘Johnson County War’
Though produced by the Hallmark Channel (of all places), Johnson County War is of further note because it was penned by famed Lonesome Dove author Larry McMurtry, alongside his writing partner Diana Ossana. The pair crafted this Hallmark miniseries (which doesn’t feel especially Hallmark-y) masterfully, offering a return to form for TV Westerns after years of notable absence — save for the short-lived The Magnificent Seven series and a few others in the late ’90s. In reflecting on his time working on this project, McMurtry had some distinct memories of Tom Berenger’s final scene. In his memoir, Hollywood: A Third Memoir, McMurtry praised Berenger for elevating the material. “The film had its moments but very few of the actors had theirs — mainly the star, Tom Berenger, who insisted on singing as he was being murdered,” McMurtry wrote. “We tried to discourage him but he persuaded us and I suspect now that he was right: absurdity is better than nothing, in the movies.”
While Johnson County War has largely been forgotten after all these years — a shame since Burt Reynolds’ cool-headed Hunt Lawton is quite the antagonist, a far cry from his tenure on Gunsmoke — the miniseries garnered solid reviews from outlets at the time. Variety, in particular, noted that “everything about the production, from the humming streams to the snowcapped hills, is gorgeous.” Having seen the results, we can’t quite argue. The sprawling Wyoming landscapes (which really come from Alberta, Canada) and the stable performances by its leads are enough to encourage folks to return to Johnson County War. It may not be the best that the Western miniseries has to offer, but it’s romantically close.
Johnson County War can be purchased digitally on Prime Video in the U.S.

A still frame from a promotional video for the Maximum Effort Channel’s “Bedtime Stories with Ryan Reynolds.” (Courtesy image) Fubo and comedian Ryan Reynolds have given up on the Maximum Effort Channel less than two years after the free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) network launched, The Desk has learned.
The channel is no longer available on a handful of third party platforms, including Plex, LG Channels, Xumo Play and Amazon’s Freevee, after technology provider Wurl pulled the plug on the network earlier this week. A website that promoted the channel and its availability went offline on Tuesday. On Dish Network’s FAST platform, Sling Freevee, the Maximum Effort Channel continues to be listed, but its programming feed has been replaced with a “technical difficulties” graphic.
Neither Fubo nor Maximum Effort, the Reynolds-backed company that programmed the channel, have released public statements on the closure of the channel. A customer support specialist with Fubo confirmed Maximum Effort Channel is no longer on the platform, even though the company continues to advertise its availability.
Launched in 2023, the Maximum Effort Channel was promoted as Reynolds’ attempt to channel his inner Brandon Tartikoff by programming and distributing a television network of his own — or so he said in a quote that accompanied the pre-launch press release at the time.
“We believe Fubo occupies the perfect sweet spot between streaming and cable, so we’re very grateful for the partnership with Fubo,” Reynolds said. “The Maximum Effort Channel will try to open the Overton window when it comes to both programming and advertising, but do it in the most gentle, entertaining way possible.”
It was certainly a unique venture. In addition to re-runs of shows like “Two Guys and a Girl,” “Absolutely Fabulous” and “Extras,” the channel offered some exclusive imports and original programs, including “Flip A Cöin,” which involved Swedish actor and filmmaker Dolph Lundgren flipping a coin 21 times per episode. Reynolds himself starred in a short web show called “Bedtime Stories with Ryan Reynolds,” during which Reynolds read bedtime stories in a smoothing voice, accompanied by calm animation.
Fittingly, one of the last original programs aired on Maximum Effort Channel was “Discontinued,” a limited-run documentary series that took a deeper dive into products and services that are no longer around or shells of their former existence. Video retail chain Blockbuster, corporate smartphone company BlackBerry and the Furby were among some of the topics covered by the show.
Leading up to its closure, Maximum Effort Channel set aside its sitcom re-runs and original shows and aired a marathon of low-budget holiday films from late November through the beginning of the new year. The channel was expected to exit the holidays by picking up on its distribution of shows like “Extras,” “Kids in the Hall” and “Mad TV,” according to TV listings from Nielsen’s data company Gracenote.
Despite much promotion at the time of its launch, the channel never gained much of an audience, according to a source at Fubo who declined to be identified. Fubo and Reynolds remain on good terms, and are considering ways to work together in the near future, the source said.
A spokesperson for Maximum Effort has not yet returned an email seeking comment. An attorney representing Fubo asked The Desk to stop contacting the streamer’s main spokesperson with inquiries in January 2023, despite Fubo’s prior complaint that The Desk had not solicited comment for certain stories prior to publication.
Recently, Fubo and Ryan Reynolds made the tough decision to shut down the Maximum Effort Channel. This channel, which was a joint venture between the streaming service and Reynolds’ production company, was known for its unique and engaging content. The decision to shut down the channel was not made lightly, but both Fubo and Reynolds felt that it was the best course of action moving forward. Despite the channel’s popularity and success, they realized that they needed to focus their efforts and resources on other projects.
Fans of the Maximum Effort Channel may be disappointed by this news, but there is no doubt that Fubo and Reynolds will continue to create exciting content in the future. Stay tuned for updates on their next big projects!

In a surprising turn of events, Ryan Reynolds’ Fubo-backed Maximum Effort Channel has announced its closure. The channel, which was launched in partnership with the streaming service FuboTV, was meant to showcase original content created by Reynolds and his production company, Maximum Effort. The decision to shut down the channel comes as a shock to many fans, who were eagerly anticipating the content that Reynolds had in store. The actor, known for his wit and humor, had promised a variety of original shows and films that would showcase his unique brand of comedy.
While the exact reasons for the channel’s closure have not been disclosed, it is speculated that financial issues may have played a role. Despite the setback, Reynolds remains optimistic about the future of Maximum Effort and has assured fans that they can still expect to see his work on other platforms.
For now, fans will have to wait and see what Reynolds has in store for the future of Maximum Effort. In the meantime, they can still enjoy his work in films and TV shows across various platforms.

(Credits: Far Out / YouTube Still)
While there are no guarantees that any given movie or role within it is destined to win awards, conquer the box office, or change the face of cinema, hindsight isn’t only 20/20 but undefeated with a 100% success rate. Burt Reynolds was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars at his peak, but he was left kicking himself for decades after turning down two parts that worked wonders for the people who played them.
For at least half a decade, no leading man was more popular than Reynolds. The consecutive success of Smokey and the Bandit, Semi-Tough, The End, Hooper, Starting Over, Smokey and the Bandit II, The Cannonball Run, Sharky’s Machine, and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas made him the highest-grossing actor in Tinseltown for five years in a row.
Understandably, he was happy to keep doing what he was doing. After all, his name was enough to put butts in seats, his distinctly American brand of moustachioed machismo had propelled him to the top of the A-list, and he even notched a couple of Golden Globe nominations in the ‘Best Actor – Musical or Comedy’ category to underline that he wasn’t entirely bereft of acting chops.
All good things must come to an end, though, and the early 1980s marked a period of irreversible decline. Reynolds gradually began slipping down the pecking order and never came close to being restored to former glories. The pinnacle of his career from that point on was undoubtedly his Academy Award-nominated turn in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights, even if he despised the director.
However, things could have been very different had Reynolds accepted either of the roles he’d come to regret turning down. The first would have made his star shine even brighter and guaranteed him millions of dollars in earnings for decades to come, while the other could have seen him take to the stage and collect an Oscar.
“This is where my IQ drops about 40 points,” he admitted, per Desert Sun. “Star Wars. That was the one.” Reynolds was being eyed for Han Solo, and after he decided he didn’t want to head off to a galaxy far, far away, Harrison Ford was awarded the part and turned the character – as well as himself – into a cultural icon.
“But the biggest one that I turned down, and I think I could have knocked it out of the park, was Terms of Endearment,” he said. “I felt it was very close to my life at the time. But I understood the character, and that’s very important. Actors will come along and act like they know what they’re doing, but they don’t even know who they’re playing or why they’re playing the guy.”
James L Brooks offered Garrett Breedlove to Reynolds, who knocked it back in favour of Stroker Ace, which bombed hard and landed five Razzie nominations, including ‘Worst Picture’. Meanwhile, Terms of Endearment enlisted Jack Nicholson after failing to secure its number one choice for the character, and he ended up winning the Oscar for ‘Best Supporting Actor’.
