  • LeBron James dominates as Lakers rip Knicks who also lose OG Anunoby to injury

The Knicks’ first loss in six games could prove doubly costly.

LeBron James recorded a triple-double Saturday night in what potentially could be his final career game at Madison Square Garden, and the Knicks couldn’t overcome an injury to two-way forward OG Anunoby as their five-game winning streak came to an end with a 128-112 loss to the Lakers.

The defeat was exacerbated by Anunoby suffering a noncontact injury and limping to the locker room with what the Knicks later termed a sprained right foot after he dropped to one knee upon receiving a pass on the perimeter 1:22 into the third quarter.

LeBron James, who had 33 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds, slams home a dunk during the Knicks’ 128-112 loss to the Lakers on Feb. 1, 2025. Jason Szenes for New York Post

The 40-year-old James registered his 122nd career triple-double with 33 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds for the Lakers (28-19), who were without injured All-Star center Anthony Davis.

LeBron’s son, rookie Bronny James, even made his MSG debut and scored late in the game after the crowd was chanting his name.

“It speaks to who he is and his career,” Tom Thibodeau said about LeBron James before the game. “Twenty-[two] years to do it the way he’s done it, everywhere he’s been, if he’s on the team they’re a threat. So they always have a chance.

“Obviously Anthony Davis is a huge part of that, as well. But it’s just the way [James] can bring out the best, not only out of himself, but the people who are around him.”

Josh Hart had 26 points, 13 rebounds and 11 against the team that drafted him in 2017 to notch his seventh triple-double of the season.

But leading scorers Jalen Brunson (17 points) and Karl-Anthony Towns (11) combined to shoot 10-for-30 from the floor for the Knicks (32-17). Precious Achiuwa contributed 15 points and 15 boards off the bench.

The Knicks’ remaining strength of schedule entering the game was the highest in the Eastern Conference, with an opponents’ combined winning percentage of .526 over the final 34 games, and tied for fourth-hardest overall in the league, according to Tankathon.

Thibodeau’s team posted a strong finish to complete January with a 9-6 record, and they already had taken care of the Kings, Grizzlies and Nuggets with a fifth straight formidable foe, the Rockets, slated to finish off the five-game homestand Monday night.

Still, James’ teams now have posted a 24-9 record in 33 career games at the Garden in the regular season in his 22-year NBA career. He also played in one playoff series against the Knicks in 2012 with the Heat.

After receiving a respectful ovation during pregame warmups, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer got to the rim right away and scored the first points of the game before adding two assists and a midrange bucket as the Lakers grabbed an early 17-10 lead.

The Knicks pulled even at 23-all on Precious Achiuwa’s three-point play, and the sides were tied 32-32 through 12 minutes.

James finished the period with 13 points and Rui Hachimura had 12 of his 21 points, while five different players netting at least five points for the Knicks, led by seven by Anunoby.

Towns’ 3-pointer gave the Knicks a short-lived two-point lead midway through the second, but former Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith responded with back-to-back treys to put the Lakers back on top en route to a 59-54 edge at intermission.

After Anunoby departed early in the third, the Lakers pushed their cushion to nine on three free throws by Austin Reaves (27 points).

Miles McBride converted a four-point play before James answered with a triple from the corner.

Hart recorded his 10th assist with a bounce pass to Achiuwa for a dunk and buried a 30-footer at the buzzer to pull the Knicks within 91-89 entering the final period.

But the Lakers opened the fourth on a 13-4 spurt, and Gabe Vincent’s second 3-pointer of the quarter gave them 109-97 advantage with 8:10 remaining.

Hart’s transition dunk off a steal cut the deficit to seven just past the midpoint, but James sank another 3-pointer to get the Lakers’ lead back to double digits.

LeBron James dominates as Lakers rip Knicks who also lose OG Anunoby to injury

In a highly anticipated matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks, LeBron James put on a show as he led the Lakers to a dominant victory. The Lakers came out firing on all cylinders, with James showcasing his elite scoring and playmaking abilities.

Not only did James put up impressive numbers, but he also played a crucial role in getting his teammates involved and setting the tone for the game. The Lakers’ defense was also on point, stifling the Knicks’ offense and forcing turnovers.

Unfortunately for the Knicks, the night took a turn for the worse as OG Anunoby suffered a devastating injury during the game. The loss of Anunoby was a huge blow to the Knicks, as he has been a key contributor on both ends of the floor.

Despite the loss of Anunoby, the Knicks fought hard until the final buzzer, but ultimately fell short against the Lakers. The Lakers’ victory was a testament to their talent and depth, with James leading the charge and proving once again why he is considered one of the greatest players of all time.

Overall, it was a thrilling game that had fans on the edge of their seats, but in the end, it was LeBron James and the Lakers who emerged victorious.

  • Don’t let AI rip off musicians

    Laura Kuenssberg

Watch: Paul McCartney on the risks the next generation of musicians face

Sir Paul McCartney has told the BBC proposed changes to copyright law could allow “rip off” technology that might make it impossible for musicians and artists to make a living.

The government is considering an overhaul of the law that would allow AI developers to use creators’ content on the internet to help develop their models, unless the rights holders opt out.

In a rare interview for Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Sir Paul said “when we were kids in Liverpool, we found a job that we loved, but it also paid the bills”, warning the proposals could remove the incentive for writers and artists and result in a “loss of creativity”.

The government said it aimed to deliver legal certainty through a copyright regime that provided creators with “real control” and transparency.

Watch: Protect creative artists or you won’t have them – Paul McCartney

Sir Paul, one of the two surviving members of the Beatles, said there was a risk that AI would create a “Wild West” in which artists’ copyright is not properly protected.

“You get young guys, girls, coming up, and they write a beautiful song, and they don’t own it,” he said.

“They don’t have anything to do with it. And anyone who wants can just rip it off.

“The truth is, the money’s going somewhere. Somebody’s getting paid, so why shouldn’t it be the guy who sat down and wrote Yesterday?”

He appealed to the government to think again about its plans, saying: “We’re the people, you’re the government! You’re supposed to protect us. That’s your job.

“So you know, if you’re putting through a bill, make sure you protect the creative thinkers, the creative artists, or you’re not going to have them.”

In 2023, Sir Paul and Beatles drummer Sir Ringo Starr used AI to extract the vocals from an unfinished demo left by John Lennon to produce a new song, Now and Then.

The song, billed as the Beatles’ final release, drew widespread praise and has been nominated for two Grammys and a Brit award.

“I think AI is great, and it can do lots of great things,” Sir Paul said.

“We took an old cassette of John’s and cleaned his voice up so it sounded like it had just been recorded yesterday. So it has its uses.

“But it shouldn’t rip creative people off. There’s no sense in that.”

The government is currently consulting on proposals that would allow AI companies to use material that is available online without respecting copyright if they are using it for text or data mining.

Generative AI programmes mine, or learn, from vast amounts of data like text, images, or music online to generate new content which feels like it has been made by a human.

The proposals would give artists or creators a so called “rights reservation” – the ability to opt out.

But critics of the plan believe it is not possible for an individual writer or artist to notify thousands of different AI service providers that they do not want their content used in that way, or to monitor what has happened to their work across the whole internet.

An alternative proposal for artists to opt in to give their permission for their content to be used will be put forward in the House of Lords by cross bench peer Baroness Kidron this week.

Tom Kiehl, chief executive of music industry body UK Music, said: “Government plans to change copyright law to make it easier for AI firms to use the music of artists, composers and music companies without their permission put the music industry at a huge risk.

“It would be a wild punt against the creative sector that is already contributing over £120bn to the economy and be counterproductive to the government’s own growth ambitions.

“There is no evidence that creatives can effectively ‘opt out’ of their work from being trained by AI systems and so this apparent concession does not provide any reassurance to those that work in music.”

A government spokesperson said that the UK’s music industry was “truly world class” and had produced “some of the most celebrated artists in history”.

“That is why we have launched a consultation to ensure the UK copyright framework offers strong protections for artists with regards to AI,” they said.

“Our aim is to deliver legal certainty through a copyright regime that provides creators with real control, transparency, and helps them licence their content.”

The spokesperson added the government was “keen to hear the views of the music industry on these proposals” and would “only move forward once we are confident that we are delivering clarity, control and transparency for artists and the sector, alongside appropriate access to data for AI innovators”.

Sir Paul recently finished his Got Back tour, which saw the 82-year-old play in France, Spain and Brazil before ending at London’s O2 Arena.

The full interview with Paul McCartney will be on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg on Sunday 26 January at 09:00 GMT.

As technology continues to advance, artificial intelligence (AI) has become increasingly prevalent in the music industry. While AI has the potential to revolutionize the way music is created and consumed, there is a growing concern that it could also lead to musicians being ripped off.

One of the main issues is the use of AI-generated music in commercial projects without properly compensating the original creators. Since AI can produce music at a rapid pace and without the need for royalties or credit, there is a risk that musicians will lose out on their rightful earnings.

It is crucial for industry leaders and policymakers to establish clear guidelines and regulations to ensure that musicians are fairly compensated for their work, regardless of whether it was created with the help of AI or not. Additionally, music streaming platforms and other digital services must be transparent about how they use AI-generated music and ensure that proper royalties are paid to the original creators.

As consumers, we also have a role to play in supporting musicians and advocating for fair compensation. By being mindful of where our music comes from and advocating for ethical practices in the industry, we can help prevent musicians from being exploited by AI.

In conclusion, it is essential that we do not let AI rip off musicians. By working together to establish fair practices and regulations, we can ensure that musicians are properly compensated for their creative work in the digital age.

  • DeForest Buckner, Pat McAfee rip Colts after missing playoffs again: ‘We s*** the bed another year’

DeForest Buckner, Pat McAfee rip Colts after missing playoffs again: ‘We s*** the bed another year’

DeForest Buckner lit up the Indianapolis Colts on Monday.

After they fell to the New York Giants on Sunday, which officially eliminated them from the postseason race, it’s easy to understand why the Colts’ star defensive lineman was upset.

“I’m going to be honest, as the entire team, we [expletive] the bed another year and it’s frustrating,” he said, via the Indianapolis Star. “I can see what we have. It’s just we’re not getting over that hump.”

The Colts fell to 7-9 on the season after Sunday’s loss, which came at the hands of the spiraling Giants. Indianapolis allowed Drew Lock to throw for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns, and the Giants put up 45 points in the shootout win despite entering the contest with the worst offense in the league. It was the most points the Colts have allowed all season, and the most points they’ve given up to the Giants since 1950.

The loss marked the third time in the last four seasons that the Colts have failed in a must-win situation when it comes to the playoffs. They have won just a single playoff game in the last decade.

Former Colts punter and current ESPN analyst Pat McAfee railed into the organization on social media after the loss on Sunday, too.

“A blind person could see the red flags on this team,” he wrote, in part.

There’s plenty to point to when it comes to the Colts’ issues this season. Quarterback Anthony Richardson struggled early on, and actually subbed himself out of a game at one point because he was tired, before Joe Flacco came in to replace him due to various injuries. Another perfect example came when running back Jonathan Taylor committed a brutal mistake earlier this month when he fumbled inches before crossing the goal line, blowing what would’ve been a surefire touchdown. Just about everyone from last year’s team that went 9-8 returned this season, the second under head coach Shane Steichen, but they clearly took a step back.

Buckner, who is wrapping up his fifth season with the franchise, joined in on calls for changes this offseason. Whether that includes Steichen or general manager Chris Ballard — who is in his eighth season but has just a single playoff win and only two winning campaigns under his belt — remains to be seen.

“There’s obviously going to be people that are going to still be in the building, people that are not,” Buckner said. “Changes are going to need to be made, you know what I mean? I understand that, and we all understand that in the building. You’ve got to make those changes for the better.”

The Colts will wrap up the regular season against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, though that game doesn’t matter much now.

“Every year, every team is different,” Taylor said on Sunday, via ESPN. “Next week, that’ll be the last time that all 53 guys are in that locker room.

“That’s the reality of the business. But when you have a season and it doesn’t turn out how you want, it could be more changes than usual.”

DeForest Buckner, Pat McAfee rip Colts after missing playoffs again: ‘We s the bed another year’

The Indianapolis Colts fell short of making the playoffs once again, and two former Colts players were not shy about expressing their frustrations.

Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and former punter Pat McAfee took to social media to vent their disappointment with the team’s performance. Buckner tweeted, "We s the bed another year. Unacceptable." McAfee chimed in, saying, "Another year, same result. The Colts continue to disappoint. It’s time for some serious changes."

Both players were key members of the Colts during their time with the team, and it’s clear that they are not happy with the direction the organization is heading in. Fans are also expressing their frustrations, calling for changes to be made in order to turn things around for the team.

As the Colts head into the offseason, it will be interesting to see what moves they make in order to address the issues that have plagued them in recent years. One thing is for certain, the pressure is on for the team to make significant improvements and get back on track for the upcoming season.

Deadly severe weather outbreak ongoing as tornadoes rip through South

PORTER, Tex. — A deadly severe weather outbreak swept across the South Saturday evening, spawning multiple tornadoes across three states and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

One person died as one of those tornadoes swept through Texas’ Brazoria County, south of Houston, according to Manvel Mayor Dan Davis. Additional damage reports came in from Louisiana and Mississippi.

A three-hour radar loop. Warning boxes are color coded: Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are in yellow, Tornado Warnings are in red, Tornado Warnings with confirmed tornado are in purple, Flash Flood Warnings are in green and Flash Flood Emergencies are in pink.
    (FOX Weather)

A rare Particularly Dangerous Situation Tornado Watch was issued, and dozens of Tornado Warnings have wailed across the South into Saturday evening, with hours of dangerous weather still to go.

Multiple tornadoes cause damage near Houston on Saturday

Multiple tornadoes struck in southeastern Texas on the outskirts of Houston earlier in the day Saturday, causing significant damage to towns both north and south of the nation’s fourth-largest city.

DRONE VIDEO SHOWS TORNADO DAMAGE AFTER DEADLY STORMS RIP THROUGH HOUSTON AREA

Drone video showed several buildings suffering damage in Porter Heights north of Houston.

Spotters reported multiple mobile homes were hit, and the twister caused significant damage to a brick home and the East Montgomery Fire Department building, according to the National Weather Service office in Houston.

“There have been no reported injuries to our firehouse team at 154, and all pending calls have been cleared,” officials at the fire station wrote in a Facebook post.

In an update posted on Facebook, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said at least 15 people were trapped in homes after the storms, but they have been rescued.

FOX 26 Houston reporter Shelby Rose walked through one of the neighborhoods that suffered a direct strike from the tornado, finding some homes damaged or even destroyed.

One family had nearly finished constructing a new home, but now it lay destroyed amid the tornadic ruins.

“This family was just about to move inside,” Rose said. “(The mother) is now in tears to see what once would have been her brand-new home, is now rubble.”

One killed in Brazoria County, Texas

Another report showed significant damage near the towns of Alvin and Liverpool, to the south of Houston.

Multiple homes were destroyed, and substation debris was seen on State Highway 35.

Mayor Dan Davis of nearby Manvel said on X that he received confirmation that at least one person was killed by the storm as it tore through Brazoria County. He didn’t provide any further details about the death.

A family in nearby Liverpool had to scramble to take shelter as the tornado raced to their property.

Jose Ramirez told FOX 26 Houston reporter Jonathan Mejia he heard loud rain and thunder and ran back in to get his wife and dogs to run to a more sturdy shelter.

“When he came back out, he saw all this,” Mejia said, gesturing to the debris and damage scattered through the yard. “He tells me this was all reduced to nothing in a matter of seconds.”

Video taken near the Houston suburb of Katy showed a funnel hovering above the ground earlier in the day. Spotters reported damage to a mobile home park near Noel Lane.

HOW YOU SHOULD PREPARE FOR A TORNADO

Trailers flipped in Mississippi as tornado swept through

More damage came in from southern Mississippi where a large tornado rolled through the town of Bude, tossing multiple trailer homes, according to FOX Weather Storm Trackers Corey Gerken and Brandon Copic.

“There were a couple mobile homes that literally were flipped — upended both ways,” Copic said. “And thankfully no injuries from what I saw. But there were injuries further down.  A woman had minor injuries from my understanding. Thankfully, nothing catastrophic from what I’m being told.”

Port Arthur just missed a strong tornado

The tornado that swept near Liverpool would go on a more than four-hour, 120-mile journey along Texas’ Gulf Coast, tracking just north of Galveston and nearly making a direct hit on the town of Port Arthur.

The National Weather Service issued multiple Tornado Warnings on the twister, even denoting it as their more dire “particularly dangerous situation” type warning.

For several minutes, it appeared the heart of Port Arthur and its nearly 50,000 people would be in the crosshairs of the tornado, but luckily the storm veered just to the south, tracking over Sabine Lake instead.

“Overall, we have had minor property damage, downed power lines, and 2 reported minor injuries from debris,” Capt. Crystal Holmes of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office told FOX Weather. “One of our citizens homes was destroyed by the tornado.”

Severe weather threat moves east Sunday

  • Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar Rip Into Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy Over 4th Test Tactics

Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar Rip Into Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy Over 4th Test Tactics

India captain Rohit Sharma continues to court criticism over his baffling strategy and selection calls in the Melbourne Test. Since announcing the return of Washington Sundar to India’s playing XI for the Boxing Day Test — which came at the cost of Shubman Gill — Rohit has had his decision-making questioned time and again. Be it the use of his bowlers, or match-ups used against different Australian batters, Rohit struggled to get the best out of India’s bowling attack for the first two days. Some of his decisions received public criticism from legends like Suni Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri.

During his commentary stint on Day 2 of the Melbourne Test, Shastri questioned both Rohit and head coach Gambhir over the decision to add 2 spinners to the playing XI as they didn’t show the required trust in them.

“Why did you take 2 spinners if you had to bowl them after 40 overs? In Melbourne, spinners should always bowl in 1 or 1 and a half overs. I didn’t understand why Jadeja and Sundar bowled after 40 overs,” Shastri wondered.

The former India head coach also felt that the team should’ve started with Bumrah on Day 2 but he came in to bowl the third over.

“India should’ve started with Bumrah but Siraj bowled the first over. With SIraj’s confidence being low, it’s important to handle him well,” he asserted.

Shastri questioned not just Rohit’s bowling changes but also his field placements.

He said: “You see, Mitchell Starc has come and you have long on and long off fielders. At least put one of them up.”

Sunil Gavaskar was also livid upon seeing India’s bowling performance in the middle. Barring Jasprit Bumrah, no India pacer managed to step up. Gavaskar said that the new ball was ‘wasted’ by India’s pacers.

“Pretty ordinary blowing. If you have to bowl a bouncer, you get it around the helmet’s badge and not around the waist. I’m very disappointed, I’m sorry. This new ball has been wasted. Aakash Deep has been all over the place. He has wasted the new ball by bowling way outside off stump. The Indians have also been sloppy in the field,” the original Little Master said on commentary.

Later, Rohit also decided to open the batting for India, pushing the in-form KL Rahul down the order. But, the skipper departed after making just 3 runs.

Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar Rip Into Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy Over 4th Test Tactics

In a scathing critique of Rohit Sharma’s captaincy during the recently concluded 4th Test against South Africa, former cricketers Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar did not hold back in expressing their disappointment with the Indian skipper’s tactics.

Shastri, who had previously coached the Indian team, lambasted Sharma for his lack of aggression and innovative thinking on the field. “Rohit Sharma seemed lost at times during the 4th Test. His field placements were unimaginative, and he failed to inspire his bowlers to take wickets when needed. This is not the kind of leadership we expect from the captain of the Indian team,” Shastri said.

Gavaskar also expressed his disappointment with Sharma’s captaincy, particularly his decision-making during crucial moments of the match. “Rohit Sharma’s defensive mindset cost India dearly in the 4th Test. He seemed content to let the game drift instead of seizing the initiative and putting pressure on the South African batsmen. As a captain, you need to be proactive and make bold decisions, which Rohit failed to do,” Gavaskar remarked.

The criticism from Shastri and Gavaskar comes at a time when Sharma is under increasing scrutiny for his captaincy skills, with many questioning whether he is the right man to lead the Indian team in the long term. It remains to be seen how Sharma responds to this criticism and whether he can silence his detractors with improved performances in the future.
