2025 NFL Draft: NFL insider highlights Jaxson Dart rise, makes intriguing comparison to Bo Nix
Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward have long been thought of as the top two quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft class. After that, it’s a toss-up.
However, that gap may have closed a bit after scouts took a closer look at Jaxson Dart this week in Mobile, AL for the Reese’s Senior Bowl. The Ole Miss quarterback has been impressive at practice, and NFL insider Ian Rapoport saw first-hand how Dart was able to boost his draft stock.
“I was in Mobile watching the practice and Jaxson Dart, the Ole Miss quarterback, seems to have had a really good couple of days,” Rapoport said. “To me, based on the people I’ve spoken with, seems right now to have maybe the inside track, I would say, to be the third quarterback taken.”
His stats in college back up Rapoport’s claim. During his three-year career with the Rebels, Dart is the all-time leading passer in Ole Miss history. threw for 2,974 yards and 20 touchdowns in his first full season in 2022. It was only uphill from there. He followed that up with a 3,364-yard, 23-touchdown campaign in 2023.
Then came the best yet, as Ole Miss pushed for a playoff spot in 2024. Jaxson Dart threw for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns, against just six interceptions. He also ran for 495 yards and three scores.
It appears that those around the league believe he has tremendous upside under center at the pro level. Based on the high praise he’s received since arriving at the Senior Bowl, he’s only helped push his draft stock higher.
“If you talk to the scouts, talk to general managers, where does he fit in? They say, you know, probably somewhere in the middle of the first round,” Rapoport continued. “Okay, but we’ve seen this before. If you’re middle of the first round now, by the time we get to the draft, when it’s the quarterback-needy teams, you’re probably a little higher. We’ve seen all these guys get pushed up. This time last year, Bo Nix was being talked about as a second-rounder, and he went 12th.
“We know the quarterbacks always go much earlier. Really solid weekend in Mobile for Jaxson Dart. We’re going to get to Indianapolis before we know it you’re going to see some of the other guys who are in competition for that, the Quinn Ewers‘ and Will Howard‘s. It’s going to be intriguing how this all plays out. I for one kind of wish it was here right now.”
The 2025 Reese’s Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2:30 p.m. ET live on the NFL Network.

The former is a key supplier to Nvidia Corp., while Samsung’s pivotal chip division reported a smaller-than-expected profit. Markets in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan remain closed.
“There is lot more” recalibration to come in the AI trades, Gareth Nicholson, chief investment officer at Nomura Singapore Ltd. told Bloomberg Television. “We will see more rotation and it makes us even more bullish, albeit we needed some steam to come out of the system to build a stronger momentum forward.”
Earnings for large tech companies still face heightened scrutiny after investors dumped AI-related stocks earlier this month. Nvidia shares rose Thursday but remained on track for their worst week since September. The Nasdaq 100 is also set to drop for the first week in three.
Despite this week’s selloff in technology stocks, Asian equities are on pace for their first monthly advance in four as concerns over Trump’s use of tariffs eased after he held back from imposing levies on China.
Samsung “missed consensus, mainly from the semiconductor division,” said SK Kim, Daiwa Securities executive director and analyst, speaking on Bloomberg Television. “In semiconductors, Samsung has higher exposure to China and they are also supplying the AI chips to Chinese customers.”

Flu cases and flu deaths in South Carolina are increasing, according to new data from the South Carolina Department of Public Health. The department puts out a “flu watch” report every week. To check out the previous report click here. Here are the takeaways from this week’s report, which is data from Jan. 12 to Jan. 18. The latest report shows widespread activity in the state.There were 5,711 lab-confirmed tests reported. In the current flu season, there have been 20,299 lab-confirmed tests reported. The report shows increases in confirmed flu tests and hospitalizations.This week, 13 influenza-associated deaths were reported; however, 2 deaths occurred during previous weeks. In the Week 7 Power Rankings, I handed out first-quarter grades, which are included here. But these grades are not cumulative for the entire first half of the season. Did teams get better? Did they maintain a certain level of play? Did teams slip up somewhere?

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is just as valuable to Oklahoma City defensively as he is offensively.

None of the Celtics average three personal fouls per game, while minute leader Jayson Tatum averages only 2.1 personal fouls in 36.4 minutes per game over the last seven weeks.

Second quarter: B+New York has improved defensively throughout the season, but it is still led by the offense. And while the Knicks haven’t been as powerful scoring the ball as they were to begin the season, the offense has still been quite efficient. Center Karl-Anthony Towns was selected as a starter in the All-Star Game for the first time in his 10-year career, and his 55 percent shooting from the field over the last seven weeks is a major reason why.

Only the Rockets have averaged more offensive rebounds per game over the last seven weeks than the Grizzlies. Rookie center Zach Edey’s greatest contribution to the Memphis offense has been offensive rebounding, as he grabbed 3.3 of his teammates’ missed shots per game since returning from injury last month.
7. Denver Nuggets (28-18)

Offensive rating: 118.0 (fourth)
Defensive rating: 113.6 (19th)First quarter: C
Second quarter: B+Denver has been better defensively over the second quarter of the season, but it has also improved to become the best offense in the Western Conference in that time. Reigning MVP center Nikola Jokić consistently gets great shots for his teammates and himself. Since Dec. 6, Denver is the only NBA team to make at least half of its total field goal attempts (51.7 percent), while Jokić is averaging 30.0 points on 57.9 percent shooting.

As we near the halfway point of the NBA season, teams are beginning to separate themselves from the pack and make their mark on the league. The New York Knicks and Houston Rockets have been two of the biggest surprises of the second quarter, as they continue to climb up the power rankings.The Knicks, led by Julius Randle and rookie sensation Immanuel Quickley, have been on a tear lately, winning 9 of their last 10 games and firmly establishing themselves as a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference. Their hard-nosed defense and timely scoring have propelled them to a 4th place ranking in the East, and they show no signs of slowing down.
On the other hand, the Rockets have been on a rollercoaster ride this season, but have found their footing in the second quarter behind the stellar play of Christian Wood and John Wall. Despite dealing with injuries and COVID-19 protocols, the Rockets have managed to string together some impressive wins and are now sitting in the 7th spot in the Western Conference.
As we hand out grades for the second quarter of the season, it’s clear that both the Knicks and Rockets have exceeded expectations and are trending in the right direction. With plenty of basketball still to be played, it will be interesting to see if they can maintain their momentum and continue their climb up the power rankings.
