The 29-year-old performed Sunday night in Fall River during the ROFL House’s sold-out show, through Whale City Comedy, at the Belmont Club, The Fall River Herald reports. The standup comic, actor, and TikTok star joined a lineup that included Ray Harrington, Fall River’s Sonya Priest, Derek Furtado, Carolina Montesquieu, and Doug Key, according to the newspaper.
“Thank you Whale City Comedy Festival and all of our comedians, as well as our special guest Matt Rife for making the return of ROFL House comedy a success,” the club wrote on Facebook, adding in another post, “never know who could pop in at a Whale City Comedy Festival show!!!”
According to the Fall River Reporter, Rife — an Ohio native — bought a home in North Smithfield, Rhode Island last year.

A propósito del River Plate vs. México del martes 21 de enero, viene bien recordar la única ocasión que estos dos cuadros se enfrentaron hace casi 75 años.
Fue en 1950 en el marco de una gira por El Salvador y México que hizo el cuadro argentino en enero, y febrero tras salir subcampeón del Torneo Argentino en 1949. En el primer mes del año venció tres veces al representativo centroamericano (3-0, 8-0 y 3-1) y luego tomó rumbo a México.
Aquel aquipo tenía como figuras e ídolos al delantero Ángel Labruna y al arquero Amadeo Carrizo. Dos legendarios futbolistas del club de la plata.
En sus primeros duelos, River arrazó en México. Venció a l Atlante (6-0), al América (8-2), pero por fin Atlas le puso un alto al vencerlo (3-2) el 26 de enero en Oblatos. Luego siguió su camino ganador. Se impuso al Veracruz (4-1) y al combinado España-Asturias (1-0).
Ya en febrero, empató con León (1-1), volvió a igualar con el combinado España-Asturias (0-0), así como con León (2-2) y se impuso al Oro (3-1).
Selección Mexicana vs. River Plate
Y el 19 de febrero de 1950 cayó 2-0 ante México en el Estadio Olímpico Ciudad de los Deportes en el último duelo de su larga gira.
México tenía en sus filas jugadores históricos como José Antonio Roca, José Luis Borbolla y Max Prieto y eran dirigidos por Octavio Vial. Unos meses después, pero aún era muy pronto haría explosión en la liga un joven guardameta llamado Antonio ‘La Tota’ Carbajal, pero en ese momento el arco era aún de Raúl Córdova.
El cuadro argentino era dirigido por José María Minella y el público mexicano quería ver el juego y los goles de de Labruna.
Las crónicas de esos días hablan de la solidez de la defensa mexicana y su buen juego al frente, así como del espectacular juego de River, pero no tan contundente como en otras ocasiones.
A los 38 minutos, Rodrigo Ruiz cobró un tiro libre casi desde media cancha y Max Prieto se elevó para anotar el primer gol. Ya en la segunda mitad, a los 52 minutos, ‘ Chepe’ Naranjo hizo un disparo (que Ramos de River desvió), para el segundo gol.
El marcador ya no se movió pese a los esfuerzos de los argentinos que incluso sacaron y metieron a Labruna un par de veces.
Labruna se llevó los aplausos y las porras por su juego, y su esfuerzo.Tras la derrota de aquella tarde, River Plate luego de casi 75 años, por fin tendrá su duelo de revancha, aunque ahora en casa.
El pasado fin de semana se vivió un encuentro histórico en el mundo del futbol, ya que por primera vez en la historia se enfrentaron la Selección Mexicana y River Plate en un partido amistoso de preparación para la Copa Mundial de Futbol 2026. El encuentro tuvo lugar en el Estadio Azteca, con un lleno total de aficionados que no querían perderse este enfrentamiento único.Desde el inicio del partido se pudo sentir la intensidad en el campo, con ambas selecciones buscando imponer su estilo de juego. En qué canal pasan el amistoso de River vs. México hoy

Javier Aguirre le dará prioridad al rendimiento del equipo en el partido ante River
Ciudad de México — Javier Aguirre, director técnico de la selección mexicana de futbol, aseguró que en el duelo que sostendrán mañana ante River Plate el marcador pasará a segundo plano porque lo que le interesa es el rendimiento de los jugadores.

El comentario llega en conferencia de prensa previa al partido, y después de la victoria 2-0 ante el Inter de Porto Alegre, en Brasil. El Vasco también adelantó que jugarán los elementos que no vieron acción y Andrés Sánchez será el portero titular.
“Que sea un buen partido de preparación para ambos, espero que el equipo muestre personalidad, que se centre en el juego, son cosas que quiero ver. Va a ser un partido complicado”, explicó en conferencia de prensa.
El Vasco advirtió que River jugará a full, porque no se puede permitir un marcador escandaloso.
“Andrés Sánchez será el portero titular, quiero que juegue gente que no participó porque ya que hicieron el viaje el marcador pasa a segundo plano, me interesa el rendimiento de los jugadores”, añadió.

Aguirre explicó que por lo pronto todos los convocados tienen calificación aprobatoria porque cumplieron con las reglas que pidió, al 100% y más.
“Tengo tres reglas absurdas: no tener el celular en las comidas, en las charlas; les dimos tarde libre y lo hicieron muy bien, en cuanto a la profesionalidad y la conducta dentro y fuera de la cancha, ya conmigo aprobaron”, detalló.
El técnico nacional dijo que en esta gira por Sudamérica se cumplieron sus expectativas de que los jugadores no se sintieran cómodos con las tribunas a su favor y enfrentarse en territorios hostiles.
Aplaude la salida de Huerta a Europa
Finalmente, el Vasco se congratuló por la partida de César Huerta al futbol de Bélgica, pues aseguró que a su regreso verán a otro jugador, más maduro y con mayor calidad.
“Fantástico, de eso se trata, de ver el árbol y no sólo el bosque, está bien que la lana sea importantísima, porque hay años en los que puedes acumular para tu patrimonio, y más tarde, administrar y guardar”, aseguró. El ‘Chino’ es un ejemplo, el día que todos pensemos de esa manera, y cuando digo todos me refiero también a la gente que tiene los derechos federativos”.
Asimismo, el seleccionador agradece que Pumas haya apoyado al jugador para salir del país.
“Me encanta que se vayan, el hecho de salir de tu casa, tu gente, te obliga estar más alerta de todas las circunstancias y eso te obliga a mejorar”, dijo el Vasco. “Cuando lo volvamos a ver será un jugador distinto, y con eso gana él y gana el futbol mexicano”.

Con los Millonarios consiguió un título de Primera División, además de una Copa Campeonato, situación que lo llenó de confianza para también ser campeón en México, pues sumó una Copa MX con Necaxa y otro título copero con Monterrey y uno de Liga MX también con Rayados.
Ramiro Funes Mori
El ‘Mellizo’ inició su carrera en River Plate y fue figura del cuadro Millonario en dos etapas. Le tocó la campaña del ascenso a Primera División, donde se consolidó como uno de los mejores elementos. Después estuvo hasta 2015, cuando emigró a Europa.
Tras su paso en el ‘Viejo Continente’, en Arabia Saudita y en México, regresó a River Plate en 2023 para regresar como figura y con la meta de brillar una vez más. En la Liga MX estuvo en Cruz Azul, donde no le fue tan bien.
Nicolás Sánchez
Uno de los centrales más respetados en la historia de Monterrey, equipo en el que estuvo por cuatro años, de 2017 a 2021. El argentino dejó la vara muy alta y demostró que estaba a la altura de la Pandilla.
Sin embargo, antes estuvo en River Plate de 2007 a 2010, donde conquistó un campeonato. Incluso, su buen paso con el cuadro argentino lo catapultó a otros equipos de la liga argentina.
Jonathan Maidana
Pese a que el zaguero no fue canterano de River Plate y jugó en Boca Juniors, fue un ídolo de los Millonarios, equipo al que llegó en 2010 y en el que estuvo en dos etapas, donde fue un referente en ambas.
A Maidana le tocó el descenso a Segunda, el ascenso a Primera y una época de mucha gloria para River Plate. A nivel local, ganó tres ligas, dos copas, dos Supercopa Argentina y dos Trofeos de Campeones. En tanto, en el plano internacional, conquistó dos Copas Sudamericanas, una Recopa Sudamericana y dos Libertadores, incluida la de la final ante Boca Juniors en Madrid. En Liga MX jugó en Toluca sin dar tan buenos resultados.
Óscar Ruggeri
El ‘Cabezón’ es de los pocos argentinos que ha pasado por Boca Juniors y River Plate y que no es odiado en alguno. Su carrera inició con los Xeneizes en 2980 y para 1984 pasó con los Millonarios en un movimiento que llamó mucho la atención.
Con River Plate conquistó una liga y después de cuatro años muy buenos, entonces pasó a Europa, donde jugó con el Logroñés antes de llegar al Real Madrid, lo que fue uno de los puntos más altos de su carrera. En México jugó con el América en 1993.
Guillermo Rivarola
El argentino inició en el Cipolletti en 1986 y estuvo en el club por cinco años. Entonces pasó a River de 1991 a 1997 y con los Millonarios vivió uno de los momentos más importantes de su carrera donde consiguió cuatro títulos de la Primera División.
En tanto, tras ese buen paso con River Plate, llegó a México, donde hizo una carrera por apenas tres años. En 1997 pasó al Pachuca, luego a Santos en 1998 y en 1999 llegó a Monterrey, que fue su último club antes de volver a Argentina.
Lucas Ocampos
Formado en River Plate, ha sido uno de los mejores jugadores del club argentino y eso le valió su pase a Europa con el Monaco, luego el Marsella, el Genoa, el Milan y el Sevilla (incluido un breve préstamo con el Ajax), su último club en el Viejo Continente.
Entonces fue cuando Monterrey lo compró para el Apertura 2024. De inmediato dio resultados y guió al club a la final, pero no pudo ganarla después de que perdieron con el América.
Maxi Meza
El argentino inició en Gimnasia y Esgrima y luego pasó a Independiente. Entonces en 2018 llegó a Monterrey, donde se consagró como uno de los mejores mediocampistas que ha tenido el club y que sin duda lo pusieron como una figura del club.
Con Rayados, de 2018 y hasta 2024 conquistó una Liga MX y una Copa MX, además de cos Liga de Campeones de la Concacaf. Tras su paso en México llevó a River Plate, donde se mantiene hasta la fecha y es una figura muy importante del club Millonario.
Damián Álvarez
Se formó en River Plate de 1998 a 2002. Tuvo un breve paso por el Reggina de Italia, pero no se pudo consolidar en el balompié europeo. Entonces llegó al balompié mexicano con el extinto Monarcas Morelia, club del que fue figura por tres años.
Pasó al Pachuca, donde también fue figura de 2006 a 2010 y conquistó la Copa Sudamericana. Finalmente, llegó a los Tigres en 2010 y se retiró con dicho club en 2017, donde también ha sido de los mejores elementos en la historia del club.
Sebastián Abreu
El ‘Loco’ ha estado por muchos clubes. Fueron más de 30 equipos por los que pasó el uruguayo, y en México sumó varios, así como en Argentina. En el futbol sudamericano coleccionó muchas playeras, pero estuvo en River Plate en dos ocasiones.
En México es muy recordado por su paso con Cruz Azul, pero también en América, Tecos, Dorados, San Luis, Monterrey y Tigres.
Santiago Solari
El ariete argentino inició su carrera en River Plate en 1996 y rápido dio muestras de su buen futbol. Tras apenas dos años emigró a Europa con el Atlético de Madrid y luego pasó al Real Madrid, equipo con el que estuvo de 2000 a 2005, por lo que fue parte de la era de los ‘Galácticos’.
Luego fue al Inter de Milán en 2005 y tras tres años regresó a San Loreno. Finalmente, en 2009, le llegó al Atlante, donde estuvo por dos años para así retirarse de manera definitiva.

Si bien hay muchos jugadores que tuvieron pasado en River Plate y que también disputaron el torneo mexicano, a continuación, te presentamos algunos nombres de jugadores que fueron figura en la Liga MX.
Ángel Comizzo
Empezó en Talleres de Córdoba, pero el portero pasó a River Plate en 1988 y estuvo con los Millonarios hasta 1993. Entonces fue donde tuvo su primera experiencia en México con Tigres. Luego regresó a Sudamérica y fue hasta 1996 cuando volvió a la Liga MX.
Fue figura del León de 1996 a 1999 y después del Morelia de 1999 al 2001. Incluso, con los purépechas fue campeón en el Invierno 2000 y tras su paso en México llegó a River Plate una vez más.
Cristian Nasuti
El zaguero se formó en Platense, pero pasó a River Plate en 2002 y estuvo hasta 2005. Entonces llegó al Morelia y tuvo un buen año con los purépechas, aunque no pudo conseguir cosas importantes con el cuadro michoacano.
Javier Gandolfi
En 1998 inició en el futbol profesional con River Plate. Al inicio de la década de los años 2000 estuvo en varios equipos de Argentina y fue en 2009 cuando llegó a México con Jaguares. Entonces en 2010 llegó a Xolos y fue con los fronterizos con quien realmente se hizo un ídolo y fue campeón en 2012 bajo el mando de Antonio Mohamed.
Daniel Ludueña
El ‘Hachita’ también inició su camino en River Plate en el 2000. Tras cuatro años fue traspasado a México con los extintos Tecos, con el que estuvo por dos años y fue una de las principales figuras. Entonces para 2007 pasó a Santos, donde se consolidó en el futbol mexicano como uno buen asistidor. Pasó por Pachuca y Pumas antes de volver a Sudamérica.
Rubens Sambueza
Formado en River Plate, debutó en 2003 y fue hasta 2007 cuando les dijo adiós para llegar a los Pumas. Con los felinos no tuvo mucho éxito y pasó a Flamengo y otras vez con los Millonarios. Entonces llegó a Tecos en 2009 y su carrera despuntó. Para 2012 fue al América y se convirtió en una figura. Luego pasó por Pachuca y Toluca.
Rogelio Funes Mori
El ‘Mellizo’, al igual que su hermano, se formó en River Plate. Su buen nivel lo llevó al Benfica de Portugal, pero no se pudo consolidar. También pasó por Turquía, pero sin mucho éxito. Para 2015 llegó con Monterrey y se convirtió en el máximo goleador de la institución con 160 anotaciones. Entonces llegó a Pumas en el 2024 y se mantiene con los felinos.
En el mundo del fútbol, es común ver cómo los jugadores cambian de equipos y ligas a lo largo de su carrera. En este caso, vamos a destacar a once futbolistas que han tenido pasado en River Plate y la Liga MX.1. Marcelo Barovero: El arquero argentino jugó en River Plate antes de dar el salto al fútbol mexicano, donde ha tenido destacadas actuaciones con el Necaxa.
2. Leonel Vangioni: El lateral izquierdo argentino también pasó por River Plate antes de llegar al Monterrey, donde ha sido pieza clave en la defensa.

Doc River Makes Surprising Damian Lillard Revelation as Long Phone Call With 4X All Star Emerges
Following a riveting NBA Cup journey, the Milwaukee Bucks seemed to return to their old mistakes again. Defensively, they were failing to stay organized. And on the offense, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard were the only ones who prevailed. But their last eight games have got a stark change. While the Greek Freak has continued to stay dominant, there’s been a large change in his right-hand man.
Tonight the win against the Raptors was Milwaukee’s seventh win in their last eight games. The team itself has come together well. But in particular, Lillard has made it a point to pressure the rim and take advantage of the spacing the Bucks present. The switch didn’t come during the early stages of the season when Lillard hesitated in unloading himself. However, some motivation from assistant coach Vin Baker gave him confidence in himself.
“Just talking to me and Vin Baker maybe about two and a half weeks ago, we had a really long phone conversation where he was just like it’s actually time for you to just go be who you are. Don’t worry about doing the right thing and all that stuff like you play the right way as it is. It’s time for you to just take off and go. Don’t worry about nothing. Be Dame Lillard. And because of the relationship I have with him I know he wouldn’t just be saying that to me just because,” said Damian Lillard.

Dame Dolla admits the conversation “freed” him from holding himself back. And in the last five games, his impact has been instrumental in the Bucks’ rampaging run. He is averaging two fewer triples, but his efficiency is off the chart. Putting up 26 points per game in that stretch, Lillard’s attack-first mentality has been vital. And the four-time All-Star’s words allowed Lillard to revert to his natural predatory instincts.
“I always wanted to show that my intentions are right. Sometimes that can take away from your aggressiveness or your attack mode. But I think that conversation really did something for me. It’s allowed to just take off and go,” he said about Baker.
The other dimension of Damian Lillard’s improvement
Offensively, it was only a matter of time before Damian Lillard got going. In his off time, he is constantly studying and finding ways to improve. Aside from his talk with Baker, his routine never changed. “My routine stayed the same. I just start watching film and looking for areas that I can help myself. Where I might be having turnovers or might be opportunities for me to keep attacking,” said the seasoned guard.

But there has been another revolution in his game which took even Doc Rivers by shock.
“Dame’s intensity has been terrific. It really has. There was a stretch in the first quarter where I thought he was our best defender on the floor at times. Brook and Giannis’ ability to attack the basket as far as blocking shots has been great. Dame’s mixing it up,” he said about the Bucks point guard.
Previously, backcourts took advantage of the defensive mismatch with Damian Lillard. In the recent stretch though, the 34-year-old is doing just enough to Antetokounmpo and Lopez, two premier shot blockers who set themselves for those attacking the rim. Additionally, his ferocity now to aim for points at the rim puts pressure on the opponents’ defensive schemes. Tonight, the Raptors were forced to foul often.

Such intensity on both ends of the floor has led to a resurgence for the Bucks. They now sit as the fourth seed in the West after barely being over .500 prior to this stretch. And without Damian Lillard making the necessary adjustments, it might not have been possible.

Tampa leaders kill Hillsborough River development that threatened wetland
Tampa City Council members struck down a developer’s rezoning request Thursday, delivering a win to neighbors long opposed to the Hillsborough River housing project.
The lengthy hearing stirred a larger conversation among city leaders about how Tampa should approach future building in the aftermath of the hurricanes that walloped the region last year.
To some activists in attendance, the council’s rejection of the plan is an early sign of a city finally curbing development after storms flooded areas that were not previously thought to be vulnerable to rising water.
More than 50 residents who crammed inside the city’s Old Town Hall in downtown Tampa cheered and hugged after hearing the final vote cast.
Many donned matching green and gray T-shirts with a message: “Save our wetlands.”
Following a public comment period that lasted more than two hours, they felt council members had voted to do just that.
The council voted 5-2 to deny multi-use housing on the parcel of land zoned for single-family homes. The decision killed a ruling made in August that would have allowed developers to fill a 5,000-square-foot wetland on the property.
It was an unlikely victory for residents in Tampa’s Riverbend neighborhood who have fought an uphill battle against developers and county environmental regulators for more than two years.
Last summer, the Hillsborough County Environmental Protection Commission granted developers a wetland mitigation permit that allowed them to fill in the sensitive habitat as long as another was built in its place.
In exchange for Riverbend’s wetland, another one had been slated for preservation in the Fox Ranch Mitigation Bank area, about 50 miles up the river in northwest Polk County.
But the ruling hinged on Thursday’s rezoning hearing. Now that council members have rejected their request, the property owners are barred from destroying the wetland.
Hank Cramer, president of the Riverbend Civic Association, said he had been confident city leaders would side with neighbors.
“People genuinely were ready to fight this. It’s unbelievable. Unbelievable,” he said. “We got an awful lot of support, as you can see, and it was effective support.”
Developers had intended to construct 42 townhomes and three single-family homes on the 4.6-acre property at 6111 N Rome Ave. Neighbors, angered by plans to fill in the sensitive wetlands along the river and cut down mature, code-protected “grand trees,” quickly organized against developers.

She pleaded with council members in her closing remarks.
“We’re exhausted from this project, to be honest, and I think your staff is exhausted, too,” she said. “This application has taken longer to get to you than any other application in the city of Tampa that I’ve ever been involved with.”
“We thought we had a thoughtfully designed project that will be a treasure — a future gem,” she said.
Developers had originally planned to cut nearly 90% of the property’s 260 trees, including eight grand trees, the Tampa Bay Times previously reported.
Kevin Reali, another lawyer representing the developers, said five grand trees were to be preserved in the latest iteration of site plans. He also promised a sixth tree, made hazardous after damage from Hurricane Milton, would not be chopped down as part of efforts to conserve wildlife habitat.
Reali said the property, which had previously housed the German-American Club of Tampa, appeared overgrown and neglected when developers Mize and Sefair bought the land in 2023 for more than $3 million. The company, who has close ties to the largest corporate investors in the state, specializes in build-to-rent homes.
Some trees are healthy, but many are invasive species, Reali added. He, too, highlighted the lengthy process of litigating the project.
“We hired more experts than I’ve ever used on a zoning,” he said.
Lawyers also emphasized that the development met every city code.
But for a city now rethinking how it should build and rebuild in the wake of an unprecedented hurricane season, it would be a mistake to destroy more natural features that could curb future floodwaters, said council member Charlie Miranda.
“The code is something on paper, but we just went through hell. Places that were never going to flood, they flooded,” he said. “You’re not going to get what you want doing the things we’ve done normally for the last 100 years.”
“It does not work any longer,” he added.

They argued more concrete and stucco would lead to floodwaters washing out nearby homes, including the proposed townhomes.
A Tampa sewage lift station adjacent to the Rome property flooded during Milton, though floodwaters did not cause the facility to fail. The nearby Police Athletic League building also took on 2 to 8 inches of water during the storms, Cramer said.
“That’s what happens when you stop a wetland,” Cramer said. “Water always wins.”
Cramer, echoing some council members, said the destruction of the Rome development’s wetland would be problematic as hurricanes, fueled by human-caused climate change, grow more intense.
He cast doubt on developers’ plans to build stormwater ponds to handle rain runoff in place of the natural wetland.
“I don’t know if that’s enough,“ Cramer said. “Does anybody know if that’s enough to handle that flow that’s going to come from these intensive storms — these volatile and vicious and bigger storms that we’re getting?”

[ JEFFEREE WOO | Times ] The council’s decision flew in the face of recommendations made by city staff and the planning commission, who argued developers’ plans were consistent with Tampa’s comprehensive plan, the city’s master planning document.
Council members Gwendolyn Henderson and Luis Viera voted in favor of the rezoning. They argued the council’s decision should support the collaboration between builders and city staff.
“You can clearly see that the applicant put in the work, even though you don’t like it,” Henderson said, addressing Riverbend residents.
Council member Lynn Hurtak suggested the comprehensive plan should be amended, particularly where building on coastal high-hazard areas is concerned.
“This does not promote the efficient and sustainable infrastructure with careful consideration of potential adverse impacts to onsite natural elements,” she said, citing the planning document.
With owners’ plans for development foiled, the Rome property’s future is unclear.
Despite Thursday’s victory, Frank Greco, a neighborhood association member, said he doesn’t expect the battle is over.
“They’ll come back with something else, I’m sure,” he said. “They’re not going to let the $2.5 million they spent on this go away.”

Former USS John F. Kennedy towed down Delaware River as aircraft carrier begins journey out of Philadelphia Navy Yard
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The decommissioned aircraft carrier, formerly named after President John F. Kennedy, has begun its journey as it heads south from the Philadelphia Navy Yard to the scrapyard.
Towboats began towing the vessel down the Delaware River around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday to begin the journey to Brownsville, Texas.
The large ship will be towed through the Delaware River, through the Delaware Bay and into the Atlantic Ocean. Once it reaches the Gulf Coast of Texas, crews will dismantle the Kennedy.
The move to Texas was pushed back after a delay on Wednesday.
Ray Staley and Michael Marchesse served onboard from 1971 to 1973 – just two kids from Norristown.
“We met in the ship’s library and we found out we had mutual friends, and lived five miles from each other. We’ve been friends for 52 years,” said Michael Marchesse of Norristown.
In Chester, the veterans were joined by dozens of other onlookers who were watching as the aircraft carrier passed by.
Some of them were reminded of their time in the Navy.
“No regrets at all, a wonderful experience. Lucked out,” said Ray Staley of Royersford.
The aircraft carrier conducted US Navy missions worldwide during its 39 years of service.
The ship conducted 18 deployments including to the Mediterranean, Tyrrhenian, Ionian, Ligurian, Aegean and Adriatic seas, during a period of escalating tension in the Middle East and North Africa, often while under the surveillance of Soviet ships.
It was the Navy’s final conventionally-powered aircraft carrier before switching to nuclear power.
“Big John,” as it was affectionately nicknamed, was decommissioned in 2007 and has been in Philadelphia ever since.
A new aircraft carrier named after JFK will enter service later this year.
