Former IU basketball center Kel’el Ware got his first NBA start on Tuesday evening.
And right away, he made a splash.
The 7-footer scored 20 points, pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds and added two blocks in 38 minutes against Portland.
According to OptaSTATS, Ware joins basketball great David Robinson as just the second player in the last 40 years to produce 20+ points, 15+ rebounds, and 2+ blocks in their first NBA career start.
Ware’s role and productivity have been on the rise for the last few weeks. Tuesday night’s effort followed a career-high tying 25 points against San Antonio on Sunday. Over his last 12 games, Ware is averaging 12.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks over 22.1 minutes per contest.
Prior to that, Ware’s role had been limited in his first NBA season that included some time in the G League.
Ware played one season for IU and led the Hoosiers in scoring (15.9 points per game), rebounding (9.9), blocked shots (1.9), and field goal percentage (58.6%). He was voted second-team All-Big Ten by the media.
Miami chose Ware with the 15th pick of the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft in June.

On Tuesday afternoon, the 2025 class for the National Baseball Hall of Fame will be announced. Former Seattle Mariners star Ichiro Suzuki is going to get in, though it’s a question of if he will be a unanimous selection or not.
When he does get in, he’ll become the third player in history to wear an M’s cap on his plaque, joining Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez.
One Mariners player that won’t get in on Tuesday is starting pitcher Felix Hernandez. With 183 ballots currently known, Hernandez has 26.2 percent of the vote. It’s impossible for him to get in on this ballot, but he’s achieved the five percent of the vote needed to stay on the ballot next year.
His former teammate Robinson Cano, speaking with Mariners on SI last week, said he’d like to see Hernandez get in in the future.
“He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. We all know what he did in Seattle….”

Hernandez won a Cy Young and was a two-time Cy Young runner-up. He was a six-time All-Star who also threw a perfect game. He’s a member of the Mariners Hall of Fame and had a run of 16 straight starts of seven or more innings pitched and two runs or less allowed, which made baseball history in 2014.
Lifetime, Hernandez was 169-136 with a 3.42 ERA. He made 419 career appearances, with 418 of them being starts. He struck out 2,524 career batters, the most in M’s team history. He played 15 years, all with the M’s.

Now that he’s back with the Knicks, Landry Shamet talked to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post about the injury that nearly cost him his latest NBA opportunity. Shamet was on his way to earning a roster spot in October when he dislocated his shoulder four days before the final cuts had to be made. Because his contract wasn’t guaranteed, the team let him go to give him time to heal, then re-signed him last week.
“There’s stretches in the first week where it’s just really acute and I can’t even lift my arm to wash under my arms or brush my teeth,” Shamet said. “There’s periods of time where you’re like, ‘God,’ And that’s what I talk about with the mental piece. Not only are you dealing with injury, rehabbing something you’ve never dealt with before, but now you’re away from your teams, kind of out of rhythm. So that part could be challenging. And there were days for sure where it was pretty bleak. Like, ‘Groundhog Day.’ Like, ‘Ahh, we’re still here. It still hurts.’ But then you had days where there were big jumps and you’re like, ‘OK.’ So both feelings were prevalent.”
Shamet could have opted for surgery, but after consulting with doctors he chose to let the shoulder heal naturally so he could resume playing more quickly. Bondy notes that the non-surgical path was a risky option, and it didn’t work for Julius Randle when he suffered a similar injury last season.
Shamet has seen his playing time gradually increase in his three games since returning, and he appears headed for a place in the rotation after posting seven points and two steals in 10 minutes Friday night. Shamet provides another veteran at the wing who can help reduce the burden on the starting lineup.
There’s more from New York:
Karl-Anthony Towns has been a tremendous addition for the Knicks, but he hasn’t been able to shake the foul problems that often plagued him in Minnesota, Bondy notes in a separate story. Coach Tom Thibodeau wants Towns to be more focused about avoiding unnecessary fouls that can force him to come out of games. “There’s good aggressive fouls and there’s fouls that are obviously cheap that you have to clean up,” Thibodeau said. “I think that’s the important thing for him to understand — the difference between the two and how it’s being called.”
Jalen Brunson heard some “MVP” chants Saturday night at Washington as he scored 55 points in an overtime victory, per Steve Popper of Newsday. It was Brunson’s third 50-point game since joining the Knicks, which ties him for second in franchise history. “We needed it,”Josh Hart said. “This one was a tough one for us. Back-to-back. I felt a little old today. So a lot of us felt the same way. We were a little slow. But he made big shots. That’s why he’s the captain. Find a way to win.”
It looks like Mitchell Robinson will be sidelined until at least late January, so it could be hard to trade him by the February 6 deadline, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic states in a mailbag column. Edwards expects the Knicks to look for another center on the trade market, and he suggests that Isaiah Stewart would fit well with the current roster if the Pistons would accept Robinson and Precious Achiuwa in return.
The New York Knicks have been making some noise in the NBA recently, and there are a few key players that have been standing out. Here are some notes on Landry Shamet, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Brunson, and Mitchell Robinson:
– Landry Shamet has been a valuable addition to the Knicks roster this season. The sharpshooting guard has been a consistent threat from beyond the arc, and his scoring ability has helped the team in close games. Shamet’s ability to stretch the floor and create space for his teammates has been a key factor in the Knicks’ success.
– Karl-Anthony Towns has been a force to be reckoned with on the court. The All-Star center has been putting up impressive numbers, averaging a double-double in points and rebounds. Towns’ versatility and scoring ability have made him a matchup nightmare for opposing teams, and he has been a key player in the Knicks’ recent success.
– Jalen Brunson has been a reliable playmaker for the Knicks this season. The point guard has been a steady presence on the court, providing solid ball-handling and distributing skills. Brunson’s ability to run the offense and make smart decisions with the ball has been crucial for the Knicks, and he has been a valuable contributor to the team’s success.
– Mitchell Robinson has been a defensive anchor for the Knicks this season. The athletic center has been a shot-blocking machine, altering shots and protecting the rim with his length and athleticism. Robinson’s presence in the paint has been a key factor in the Knicks’ defensive success, and his ability to protect the rim has been a game-changer for the team.
Overall, these four players have been instrumental in the Knicks’ recent success, and their contributions will be key as the team looks to make a push in the playoffs. Stay tuned for more updates and notes on the Knicks as the season progresses.
Elon Musk has caused anger by calling for the release of Tommy Robinson and accusing Keir Starmer of failing to prosecute child rapists in Oldham in Greater Manchester.
The billionaire ally of Donald Trump pinned a message at the top of his X feed overnight saying “Free Tommy Robinson!”, tagging the far-right activist who is in jail for contempt of court.
As well as a number of messages in support of Robinson, Musk posted several times about rape gangs in Rochdale and Oldham, attacking the prime minister and the safeguarding minister, Jess Phillips, over their responses to the scandal.
In one post Musk said: “In the UK, serious crimes such as rape require the Crown Prosecution Service’s approval for the police to charge suspects. Who was the head of the CPS when rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice? Keir Starmer, 2008-2013.”
He added that Phillips “deserved to be in prison” after she said it was for Oldham council to call an inquiry into child exploitation there, rather than the national government.
In another he said: “The real reason she’s refusing to investigate the rape gangs is that it would obviously lead to the blaming of Keir Stamer (head of the [Crown Prosecution Service] at the time).”
Musk reposted several comments calling for the release of Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, who was jailed last October for repeating false allegations about a Syrian refugee.
Musk’s latest intervention in British politics has caused anger among Labour MPs, many of whom have been pushing the government to stop posting on X.
The Tesla co-founder and X owner has repeatedly attacked Starmer over the prime minister’s response to the UK riots last summer. He is reported to be considering donating as much as $100m (£80m) to Reform UK, and was pictured alongside the party’s leader, Nigel Farage, and its treasurer, Nick Candy, two weeks ago.
One MP said: “[Musk] has pushed it too far this time. Twitter [now X] is really rapidly becoming a cess pit, even for disinterested non-partisan types.”
Several ministers said they thought this should be the trigger for the government to leave Musk’s platform. Others, however, warned that doing so could cause a diplomatic incident given Musk’s role in the incoming Trump administration.
Downing Street declined to comment.
A spokesperson for Reform UK would not say whether the billionaire’s endorsement of Robinson – a divisive figure within the party – would change its willingness to accept his money.
A spokesperson for Oldham council said: “Survivors sit at the heart of our work to end child sexual exploitation. Whatever happens in terms of future inquiries, we have promised them that their wishes will be paramount, and we will not renege on that pledge.
“We all recognise that terrible mistakes were made in the past, with children ignored or dismissed. By ensuring that survivors have a voice that is heard, we can help make sure that no child will be failed in the future.”
Elon Musk’s recent tweets calling for the release of far-right activist Tommy Robinson have sparked outrage among Labour MPs. The tech billionaire’s vocal support for Robinson, who was jailed for contempt of court, has been met with criticism from many in the UK’s political sphere.
Labour MPs have condemned Musk’s comments, with many accusing him of endorsing hate speech and extremism. They have called on the billionaire to retract his statements and instead support efforts to combat hate and discrimination.
Musk’s controversial stance on Robinson’s case has further divided opinions on the issue, with some defending his right to free speech and others denouncing his support for a figure known for spreading divisive and harmful rhetoric.
It remains to be seen how Musk’s comments will impact his reputation and relationship with political figures in the UK, but one thing is clear: his calls for Robinson’s release have not been well-received by many in the Labour party.

The Cleveland Browns will get an in-depth look at their quarterback depth chart as the club wraps up the 2024 campaign on Saturday. In the regular-season finale, Cleveland is slated to start veteran Bailey Zappe at quarterback, according to the Associated Press. While Zappe will get the nod out of the gate, head coach Kevin Stefanski noted previously that both Zappe and fellow signal-caller Dorian Thompson-Robinson could play in Week 18, and NFL Media notes that this plan still appears to be intact. So, it could simply be Zappe getting the first crack while Thompson-Robinson follows up.
Meanwhile, Jameis Winston, who has started seven games this season, is expected to be the third-string quarterback.
Zappe, 25, signed with the Browns active roster in late October in the aftermath of Deshaun Watson suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. Before that, he was working on the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs, latching on with the defending champions at the end of the summer following his release from the New England Patriots.
Zappe entered the league as a fourth-round draft choice of the Patriots in 2022 out of Western Kentucky and was able to get some starting experience over his tenure. In all, he’s started eight games in his career, owning a 4-4 record. In 14 total appearances, Zappe has tallied 2,053 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions while completing 63.2% of his throws.
Once he officially gets the starting nod in Saturday’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, Zappe will be the 40th Browns starting quarterback since 1999.
For the Browns, starting Zappe and possibly going with the tandem quarterback attack with Thompson-Robinson on Saturday could be two-fold. First, the team could merely be evaluating the position group as it enters an offseason where they are likely to add to the room in some form or fashion. Knowing the capabilities of both Zappe and Thompson-Robinon (who has started five games for the club over the last two seasons) could give them a leg-up in the evaluation process.
Second, the Browns are still in play to earn the No. 1 overall pick at the 2025 NFL Draft but are currently slotted with the No. 3 pick. For them to keep that standing and possibly move up, they’d need to lose, so muddling the quarterback waters by playing both Zappe and Thompson-Robinson could help in that regard as well.
Meanwhile, this could further help Cleveland’s Week 18 opponent in the Baltimore Ravens, who are already over a two-touchdown favorite in this matchup. A win on Saturday would secure Baltimore the No. 3 seed in the AFC and the AFC North title.
In a surprising turn of events, rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe is set to start for the Cleveland Browns in their Week 18 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Zappe, who was drafted in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has impressed coaches and teammates with his performance in practice and is now being given the opportunity to showcase his skills on the field.
Additionally, it has been reported that Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the Browns’ backup quarterback, may also see some playing time in the game. Thompson-Robinson has been waiting for his chance to prove himself in the NFL and could provide a different dynamic to the Browns’ offense if called upon.
It will be interesting to see how Zappe and Thompson-Robinson perform in this crucial game, as the Browns look to secure a playoff spot with a win over their division rival. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

LeBron James is bestowed with the title of “King James” by his fans. The four-time champion is 39 years old and will celebrate his 40th birthday on Monday.
He currently plays for the LA Lakers alongside his son, Bronny. Last season, he became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, breaking the record of 38,387 points previously held by another NBA legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The following year, he smashed records with 40,000 points, continuing his dominant position.

James kicked off his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers and later on, went to play for the Miami Heat and the Lakers. He is also a four-time NBA Finals MVP, 20-time NBA All-Star, and three-time NBA All-Star Game MVP, among other accomplishments.

As a basketball fan, there’s always something exciting about seeing young talent emerge in the sport. And when that young talent happens to be the son of one of the greatest basketball players of all time, well, that just takes it to a whole other level.
Recently, Bryce James, the son of LeBron James, along with fellow high school hoopers like Jerzy Robinson, took part in a fun guessing game where they tried to guess LeBron’s age. The reactions from hoops fans were priceless, with many expressing amazement at how quickly time has flown by since LeBron burst onto the scene as a teenager himself.
Some fans couldn’t believe that LeBron is now in his late 30s, while others marveled at how he’s managed to maintain his elite level of play for so many years. And of course, there were plenty of jokes and memes floating around about just how old LeBron actually is.
But regardless of his age, one thing is for certain – LeBron James has left an indelible mark on the game of basketball, inspiring a new generation of hoopers like Bryce James and Jerzy Robinson to follow in his footsteps. And who knows, maybe one day we’ll see them not only guessing LeBron’s age, but also making a name for themselves on the court just like their legendary father.
