Rohit Sharma tells Ajit Agarkar, Gautam Gambhir he’s ‘opting out’ of 5th Test vs Australia; Shubman Gill back at No. 3

India is all set to be captained by Jasprit Bumrah in the fifth and final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground starting Friday after skipper Rohit Sharma decided to give himself a rest. According to a report in The Indian Express, Rohit, 37, has spoken to head coach Gautam Gambhir and the chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, informing them about his decision to ‘opt out’, which was met with a cordial response.

Rohit Sharma could well have played his last Test match(AFP)

A day after the news of unrest in the Indian dressing room emerged, Rohit briefly appeared during India’s practice session on the eve of the final match of the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Shortly after, Gambhir dismissed those reports during the pre-match press conference but kept mum on whether Rohit would play tomorrow. “Everything is fine with Rohit and I don’t think it’s anything traditional. The head coach is here and that should be good enough. We are going to have a look at the wicket and finalise it tomorrow,” he said.

The reaction all but confirmed Rohit’s absence from the series decider, a belief that was strengthened even more as the day progressed. Gambhir, Rohit, and Bumrah were seen having a long chat during the nets, and while all batters had a long and extended session, Rohit’s batting was curtailed. He batted in India’s sweatshirt, which qualifies as nothing more than a warm-up drill.

At this stage, the man walking out for the toss tomorrow at 4.30 AM India time will likely be Bumrah, who led India to a dominating 295-run win in Perth in November. And rightly so. With the series on the line – India need to win the SCG Test to level the series and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy – no one better than Bumrah to get their hopes and campaign back on track. If Rohit indeed doesn’t turn up on Friday, the MCG Test could be his last as he is unlikely to continue in Tests in the fresh World Test Championship.

India need to win Sydney Test

Rohit’s ‘rest’ also paves the way for the return of Shubman Gill at No. 3. The India youngster, who, with scores of 28 and 31 in Adelaide, didn’t do much wrong to get dropped, unfortunately, had to be left out due to ‘combination’. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, who put on a record 201-run partnership at the Optus Stadium in the series opener, will open the innings.

Despite starting last year off on a high – drawing the Test series in South Africa and beating England 4-1, scoring two centuries, the second half of 2024 has been woeful for Rohit. His own form has dropped to an all-time low, with the skipper averaging 24.56 in Tests. He failed with the bat miserably, scoring 91 runs in three Tests against New Zealand as India suffered their first series defeat on home soil after 12 years.

To make matters worse, Rohit’s returns in Australia – 31 runs from 3 Tests, with scores of 3, 6, 10, 3 and 9 are the worst by a visiting batter Down Under. Rested or dropped, Rohit’s decision could be categorised as a first in the history of Indian cricket, as no captain has ever taken a backward step with so much on the line. India have had captains in the past – and pretty good ones – struggling for form, such as Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli – but never has the leader pulled out, especially when a series against Australia.

If this indeed is it for Rohit, he would end his Test career with India, having scored 4301 runs from 67 matches at an average of 40.57 with 12 centuries. Since taking over as captain of India’s Test team when Virat Kohli stepped down in January of 2022, Rohit has led India to high-profile series wins against Australia and England at home. Under him, India reached the final of the 2nd World Test Championship final, where they finished runner-up.

In a surprising turn of events, Rohit Sharma has informed former cricketers Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir that he will be “opting out” of the upcoming 5th Test against Australia. The decision comes as a shock to many fans and experts, as Rohit has been in fine form throughout the series.

Replacing Rohit at the top of the order will be young talent Shubman Gill, who will be making his return to the No. 3 position. Gill has shown great promise in his limited opportunities so far, and fans will be eager to see how he performs in this crucial match.

It remains to be seen what prompted Rohit’s decision to opt out of the Test, but it is clear that the Indian team will have to make some adjustments in his absence. With the series finely poised at 1-1, this final Test will be crucial for both teams, and India will be hoping that Gill can step up and fill the void left by Rohit’s absence.

India coach coy on picking captain Rohit Sharma

India head coach Gautam Gambhir played it coy when asked if Rohit Sharma, the captain of the test side, would play in the fifth and final test match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Australia lead the series 2-1 after an impressive 184-run victory in the fourth test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground but India have the chance to tie the series should they win in Sydney.

The form of their captain is a worry though as Rohit is averaging just 10.93 in his last nine test matches and only 6.2 in this series. He scored 3 and 9 in Melbourne and was dismissed both times by opposite number Pat Cummins.

Gambhir, meanwhile, was frosty from the start of his pre-match press conference and said: “The head coach is here, that should be enough,” when asked why Rohit was not also addressing the media.

India’s captain had also skipped the press conference ahead of the third test in Brisbane but on that occasion Shubman Gill had attended in his place. In Sydney, Gambhir spoke to the media alone which has increased speculation over Rohit’s future with the team.

“Everything is fine with Rohit,” Gambhir told reporters before adding that “we’re going to have a look at the wicket and finalise it [the team line-up] tomorrow,” when asked if Rohit was going to play.

Rohit himself is very aware of his down turn in form but feels as though he is not too far away from things clicking back into place. Speaking after the third test in Brisbane he said: “As long as my mind, my body, my feet are moving well, I am pretty happy with how things are panning out for me.

“Sometimes those numbers can tell you that it’s been a while since he has got big runs. But for a person like me, I think it’s all about how I feel in my mind.”

Yet after the defeat in Melbourne the India captain admitted to feeling the mental strain of such an intense series. He said: “As a batter as well, a lot of the things that I am trying to do is not falling in the place that I would want to but mentally, it is disturbing without a doubt.”

Australia also have doubts of their own with Mitchell Starc facing a late push to see if he can overcome a rib injury from the previous match in Melbourne. The fifth test begins on January 3, 2025 in Sydney

India’s cricket coach has remained coy on whether Rohit Sharma will be named as the team’s captain for the upcoming matches. Despite speculation and rumors swirling around Sharma taking on the role, the coach has given little indication of what the final decision will be.

Fans and critics alike are eagerly awaiting the announcement, as Sharma has shown great leadership skills and performance on the field. However, the coach’s silence on the matter has only added to the suspense and anticipation.

With India’s upcoming matches fast approaching, the question of who will lead the team has become a hot topic of conversation. Will it be Rohit Sharma, or will the coach surprise everyone with a different choice? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • Rohit Sharma Likely To Be ‘Rested’ For 5th Test Against Australia. This Player Will Be Captain

Rohit Sharma Likely To Be ‘Rested’ For 5th Test Against Australia. This Player Will Be Captain

Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma is likely to be ‘rested’ for the fifth Test match against Australia starting Thursday in Sydney, according to sources. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the side in his absence. Rohit has struggled massively in the ongoing five-match Test series as he has scored just 31 runs in three matches. He missed the first Test match as he decided to stay back with his family following the birth of his second child. However, since joining the side, he has failed to score big.

Bumrah led the team in the first Test match in Perth which they won by 295 runs.

Earlier, during the pre-match press conference on Wednesday, head coach Gautam Gambhir fueled the speculation by not providing a clear answer regarding Rohit’s future. When asked about whether he will play in Sydney, Gambhir said that the decision will be taken keeping the pitch in mind.

“Everything is fine with Rohit and I don’t think it’s anything traditional (fronting up for the pre-match presser). The head coach is here and that should be good enough. We are going to have a look at the wicket and finalise it tomorrow,” Gambhir told reporters in Sydney.

“I just said that we’re going to have a look at the wicket and announce a playing XI tomorrow. The answer remains the same,” he added.

With India trailing 1-2 in the five-match series with just one game to go, the Sydney Test holds special significance when it comes to their dreams of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

India will have to win the Test match and depend of results from the series between Australia and Sri Lanka later this month. The defeat against Australia in the Melbourne Test was a huge shock to the team as the result took their WTC Final fortune out of their own hands.

There are reports suggesting that Rohit Sharma is likely to be ‘rested’ for the upcoming 5th Test against Australia. In his absence, Ajinkya Rahane is expected to take over the captaincy duties.

Rohit Sharma has been in great form recently, scoring a century in the last Test match against Australia. However, with the series already secured, the team management is looking to give him some much-needed rest ahead of the upcoming series.

Ajinkya Rahane, who is an experienced player and has led the team in the past, is expected to step up as the captain for the final Test match. It will be interesting to see how he leads the team in Rohit Sharma’s absence.

While it may be disappointing for fans to not see Rohit Sharma in action, it is important for the team to manage their players’ workload effectively, especially with a busy schedule ahead. Let’s hope that this decision pays off and the team puts up a good show in the final Test match against Australia.

  • BGT – Aus vs India – SCG Test – Will Rohit Sharma play in Sydney? Gambhir doesn’t say yes

BGT – Aus vs India – SCG Test – Will Rohit Sharma play in Sydney? Gambhir doesn’t say yes

“The head coach is here. That should be enough,” Gambhir said to a room full of reporters wondering why Rohit was not at the pre-match press conference.

Rohit had skipped it before the third Test in Brisbane too – Shubman Gill spoke to the press then – but the explanation then was that he had not come for the optional training session at the Gabba where the press conference was being held. Thursday’s training session at the SCG was optional too, but Rohit was there at the ground, on the eve of a Test India must win to draw the series and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

So the question was asked: Is Rohit okay? “Everything is fine with Rohit,” Gambhir replied.

And when he was asked again whether Rohit was going to play, he said: “We’re going to have a look at the wicket and finalise it [the XI] tomorrow.”

That’s where it all kicked off.

Rohit has been struggling for form. He’s averaging 10.93 in his last nine Tests and only 6.2 in this series. He was late to India’s training on Thursday. Technically, it was an optional session, so it might not be right reading too much into it, but everybody was there.

Gill, who was left out of the XI for the MCG Test, was among the first set of batters in the SCG nets. Dhruv Jurel, who hasn’t played since the first Test in Perth, was among them too; it was one of the few times he has worked alongside the first-XI players. Jasprit Bumrah came out from the doors leading into the members pavilion and went straight to Gambhir for a little chat.

Still there was no sign of Rohit at the nets. He had been in the main ground playing a game of foot-volleyball and then disappeared. It was only after the others had batted for an hour that Rohit made his way out to join them, without his kit, in just his sweatshirt and shorts. He went down to where the team analyst, Hari, was standing. Then Bumrah joined the two. This had happened at the MCG as well. Rohit took his time to get to the outdoor nets and had a fairly long session facing only throwdowns. The only difference was in Melbourne he also attended the press conference.

At the SCG, he had a light, 40-minute hit facing the fielding coach T Dilip and throwdown specialist Daya off the sidearm. The other frontline batters were already done with their stints by this time. Rohit was batting alongside Tanush Kotian and Abhimanyu Easwaran. There were moments that he looked good, a pull shot off the front foot for example, moments that he seemed to have fun, an apology for an awkward throwback down the pitch had him smiling from ear to ear, and moments where he batted like someone not in form, he left one that took out his off stump.

At the end of the Brisbane Test, Rohit had admitted that while he wasn’t batting well, he was still ticking all the boxes that he needed to.

“As long as my mind, my body, my feet are moving well, I am pretty happy with how things are panning out for me,” Rohit had said two weeks ago. “Sometimes those numbers can tell you that it’s been a while since he has got big runs. But for a person like me, I think it’s all about how I feel in my mind.”

In Melbourne, he seemed to find a semblance of form, or at least a lot more faith in his defence, as he withstood a period of bowling that Pat Cummins said was pretty close to perfect from his side. Australia hunted for his outside edge, he denied them for the first hour, but then gave them their first breakthrough when he played a risky flick shot that ended up in the hands of the gully fielder.

“As a batter as well, a lot of the things that I am trying to do is not falling in the place that I would want to,” Rohit said after India went 2-1 down in the series. “But mentally, it is disturbing without a doubt.” Reports emerged in the media that Rohit was already thinking of retiring at the end of the Sydney Test, which then begged the question, if he was thinking along those lines, could he not step away now when the series is still alive?

India rarely reveal their XI on the eve of a Test match but Gambhir refusing to confirm whether Rohit will be part of it was odd. Doesn’t the captain walk straight in? Isn’t he the one who decides who plays, not the other way around? The new year has begun with plenty of intrigue for India.

The upcoming Sydney Cricket Ground Test match between Australia and India has cricket fans buzzing with excitement. One of the biggest questions on everyone’s minds is whether or not Indian batsman Rohit Sharma will be playing in the match.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir recently weighed in on the topic, but his response may not be what fans were hoping for. When asked if he thinks Rohit Sharma will play in Sydney, Gambhir did not give a definitive answer. Instead, he stated that it will ultimately depend on the team management and the medical staff’s assessment of Sharma’s fitness.

Rohit Sharma has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the IPL and missed the first two Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Fans are eager to see him back in action, as he is known for his explosive batting and ability to change the course of a match.

With the series currently tied at 1-1, both teams will be looking to secure a victory in Sydney to gain the upper hand. Whether or not Rohit Sharma will be a part of India’s lineup remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain – his presence on the field could make a significant difference in the outcome of the match.

  • Criticism Mounts for Rohit Sharma as Shastri and Gavaskar Speak Out

Criticism Mounts for Rohit Sharma as Shastri and Gavaskar Speak Out

Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has been facing increasing criticism in recent times, with former cricketers Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar speaking out about his performance.

Shastri, who served as the head coach of the Indian cricket team until recently, expressed his concerns about Sharma’s consistency on the field. He pointed out that while Sharma is undoubtedly a talented player, he needs to work on his consistency in order to cement his place in the team. Shastri also emphasized the importance of maintaining a high level of performance in all formats of the game, not just in limited-overs cricket.

Gavaskar, a legendary Indian cricketer and commentator, echoed Shastri’s sentiments, stating that Sharma needs to step up and deliver for the team in crucial moments. Gavaskar highlighted Sharma’s tendency to throw away his wicket after getting off to a good start, which has cost India dearly in important matches.

The criticism of Sharma comes at a time when the Indian cricket team is facing a series of challenges, both on and off the field. With the upcoming T20 World Cup and other important tournaments on the horizon, it is essential for Sharma to address these issues and perform at his best in order to help India achieve success.

Sharma, who currently serves as the vice-captain of the Indian team, will need to take these criticisms to heart and work on improving his game in order to silence his critics. With his talent and experience, there is no doubt that Sharma has the potential to bounce back and prove his worth to the team.

It remains to be seen how Sharma will respond to the mounting criticism and whether he will be able to turn his performance around in the coming matches. As one of India’s most talented cricketers, all eyes will be on Sharma as he looks to make a strong comeback and solidify his place in the team.

  • Unraveling the Myth: Examining the Flaws in Rohit Sharma’s Strategy

Unraveling the Myth: Examining the Flaws in Rohit Sharma’s Strategy

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has often been praised for his strategic acumen on the field. He has led his team to multiple IPL titles and is widely regarded as one of the best captains in the league. However, a closer examination of his tactics reveals some significant flaws that may be holding his team back.

One of the most glaring flaws in Sharma’s strategy is his overreliance on a few key players. While it is important to have star players who can deliver in crunch situations, Sharma often seems to rely too heavily on them, neglecting the rest of his squad. This can lead to a lack of depth in the team and make them vulnerable to injuries or poor form from their key players.

Another issue with Sharma’s strategy is his tendency to stick with the same playing XI, even when it is clear that changes need to be made. This can lead to stagnation within the team and prevent young, talented players from getting a chance to prove themselves. It also makes the team predictable to their opponents, who can easily counter their tactics.

Sharma’s conservative approach to captaincy is also a concern. He often opts for safe, defensive tactics, even when his team is in need of quick runs or wickets. This can lead to missed opportunities and prevent his team from seizing the initiative in crucial moments of the game.

Furthermore, Sharma’s lack of flexibility in his tactics is a major flaw in his strategy. He tends to stick to a set game plan, regardless of the conditions or the opposition. This can make his team vulnerable to teams that are able to adapt and change their tactics mid-game.

Overall, while Rohit Sharma may have had success as a captain in the past, it is clear that there are flaws in his strategy that need to be addressed. By being more proactive, making use of his entire squad, and being more flexible in his tactics, Sharma can lead his team to even greater heights in the future. Only time will tell if he is able to overcome these flaws and cement his legacy as one of the greatest captains in IPL history.

'Gotta feel for the kid': Rohit Sharma draws flak over angered reactions to Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped catches

NEW DELHI: India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had a terrible day on the field on Sunday as he dropped three crucial catches of the Australian batters, prompting angered reactions from his skipper Rohit Sharma.
After having dropped Usman Khawaja on 2 at leg-gully in the morning session, Jaiswal dropped Marnus Labuschagn on 46 at third slip in the second session off Akash Deep.
At the stroke of Tea, the 21-year-old then dropped a catch of Pat Cummins off Ravindra Jadeja at silly-point.

Of all the three chances, the second dropped catch in particular, saw emotions getting better of Rohit with the skipper seen shouting and throwing his arms around angrily.
The animated Rohit reactions to the dropped chances didn’t go down well with the commentators with the likes of Mike Hussey suggesting that such things aren’t expected from skipper.

    dropped catch

“I’ve got to be honest, I don’t like that reaction from the Indian skipper. I appreciate he’s emotional, and he desperately wants wickets, but you’re the one who has to send the message of calm and support. No one means to drop a catch.
“He’s gonna feel bad enough as it is for putting a catch down, especially someone like Marnus Labuschagne; it happens quickly, it’s in, it’s out. You don’t need to see that as a young player,” Hussey said on Fox Cricket.
Australia’s women’s skipper Alyssa Healy also said that the team needs to be gentle with Jaiswal as he will be key in India’s fourth innings chase.
“Particularly when you need him to walk out and open the batting alongside you, to make some runs and try and win a Test match for your country,” she said.
Former Australia coach Darren Lehmann also wasn’t impressed with Rohit and Virat Kohli’s reaction to dropped catches. He however liked Rishabh Pant’s gesture which saw him putting arm around Jaiswal, lifting his spirits.
“Rishabh Pant did well. He actually gave him a pat on the back and said ‘just hang in there, we all drop them’. What he doesn’t need is the captain Rohit Sharma and (Virat) Kohli throwing their arms about. The poor kid,” Lehmann said on ABC Radio.
Former Victoria wicketkeeper Darren Berry also called out for support to Jaiswal from senior after the dropped catches.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has come under fire for his visibly frustrated reactions to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dropped catches during a recent match. The young player, who is still finding his feet in international cricket, was visibly upset by his mistakes, and Sharma’s reactions only added to the pressure he was already feeling.

While it’s understandable that Sharma, as the captain, would want to see his team perform at their best, many fans and pundits have criticized his handling of the situation. Some have argued that Sharma’s public displays of frustration could have a negative impact on Jaiswal’s confidence and development as a player.

Cricket is a game of highs and lows, and every player, no matter how talented, will make mistakes from time to time. It’s important for senior players like Sharma to show empathy and support for their younger teammates, especially when they are going through a rough patch.

As fans, we all want to see our team succeed, but it’s crucial to remember that these players are human beings with emotions and vulnerabilities. Let’s hope that Sharma can learn from this experience and show more compassion towards his teammates in the future. After all, we’ve all gotta feel for the kid trying to make his mark on the big stage.

  • Rohit Sharma’s Fiery Reaction To Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Dropped Catches Draws Brutal Criticism

Rohit Sharma’s Fiery Reaction To Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Dropped Catches Draws Brutal Criticism

India skipper Rohit Sharma has come under fire from broadcasters after showcasing an angry body language towards his young teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal, who dropped three catches on day four of the Boxing Day Test Jaiswal, generally a great third slip and gully catcher, had earlier dropped Usman Khawaja on two at leg gully. In the second session, after Jasprit Bumrah picked three quick wickets, Marnus Labuschagne nicked to Jaiswal in the slips on 46 off Akash Deep. But Jaiswal dropped a relatively simple catch, marking it his second shelled chance of the day. Rohit reacted furiously to Jaiswal’s drop of Labuschagne by immediately throwing his arms in frustration and then blankly towards the youngster.

Virat Kohli was also irate in his reaction, while Akash mouthed a few swear words towards the youngster. Rohit’s body language towards Jaiswal on his dropped catch didn’t please former Australia batter Mike Hussey.

“I’ve got to be honest, I don’t like that reaction from the Indian skipper. I appreciate he’s emotional, and he desperately wants wickets, but you’re the one who has to send the message of calm and support. No one means to drop a catch.”

“He’s gonna feel bad enough as it is for putting a catch down, especially someone like Marnus Labuschagne; it happens quickly, it’s in, it’s out. You don’t need to see that as a young player,” he said on Fox Cricket.

Alyssa Healy, Australia women’s captain, thought the team needs to be gentle towards Jaiswal, considering he will hold the key in India’s chase at Melbourne. “Particularly when you need him to walk out and open the batting alongside you, to make some runs and try and win a Test match for your country,” she said.

Unfortunately, Jaiswal dropped another catch just before tea, this time of skipper Pat Cummins. That shelled chance brought out a more muted reaction from Rohit, but he still stared blankly at Jaiswal.

Speaking on ABC Radio, former Australia coach Darren Lehmann appreciated wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for being gentle towards Jaiswal over his dropped catches.

“Rishabh Pant did well. He actually gave him a pat on the back and said ‘just hang in there, we all drop them’. What he doesn’t need is the captain Rohit Sharma and (Virat) Kohli throwing their arms about. The poor kid.”

Former Victoria wicketkeeper Darren Berry said on X that Jaiswal needs support of senior India players to regain his focus and keep his spirits up. “You gotta feel for the kid Jaiswal has dropped 3 catches today. He might have dropped 3 crucial chances, the game & the series. His only answer is a match-winning innings when his chance comes later today for India. Needs a pat on the back from his senior players not berated.”‍️

Indian cricket fans were left shocked and disappointed when star batsman Rohit Sharma’s fiery reaction to young fielder Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dropped catches during a recent match drew brutal criticism from fans and experts alike.

In a tense moment of the game, Jaiswal dropped two crucial catches off the bowling of Sharma, leading to the opposition gaining a significant advantage. Sharma’s reaction was seen as overly aggressive and unsportsmanlike, with many fans expressing their disappointment in his behavior.

Critics slammed Sharma for not showing support and encouragement to the young player, who was clearly struggling under pressure. Many felt that his actions were a poor display of leadership and sportsmanship, and that he should have handled the situation with more grace and maturity.

While Sharma has since apologized for his reaction and expressed regret for his behavior, the incident has sparked a debate about the role of senior players in mentoring and supporting younger players on the team.

Overall, the incident has served as a reminder of the importance of maintaining composure and sportsmanship on the field, even in moments of frustration and disappointment. Fans will be watching closely to see how Sharma and Jaiswal move forward from this incident.

‘Captain Cry Baby’: Australian media tears into Rohit Sharma after ‘Clown Kohli’ controversy over blow-up at Jaiswal

Australian media sowed no mercy to India’s senior batter Virat Kohli over the Sam Konstas incident at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last week, but they have moved on from the former India captain and found a new target in Rohit Sharma. In a fresh attack from the same publication, the incumbent skipper was humiliated over his blow-up at Yashasvi Jaiswal on Sunday during the fourth Test match against Australia.

Australian media tears into Rohit Sharma over blow-up at Yashasvi Jaiswal

Day 4 witnessed a see-saw battle between India and Australia. While Jasprit Bumrah single-handedly brought the tourists back into the game with three quick wickets in the afternoon session, where Australia were reduced to six down for 91, the hosts bounced back following a impressive fifty from Marnus Labuschagne, followed by a gritty fifty-run stand between Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland.

During the opening two sessions, Jaiswal incurred a forgettable time on the field as he dropped as many as three catches. Yet, it was Rohit who came under the scanner for his reaction when his opening partner dropped Labuschagne on 47. The 37-year-old fumed at Jaiswal and threw his hands in frustration. Later, he even let out a scream when the youngster dropped Pat Cummins.

The reaction did not go down well with either the commentators or the Australian media. The West Australian, the same publication who had taken a dig at Kohli, calling him ‘Clown,’ blasted Rohit on Sunday as they went with the headline: “Captain Cry Baby” – surrounding the same incident. The slug further read: “Turns out Kohli isn’t the only sook in Indian side.”

Rohit Sharma criticised for Jaiswal act

Former Australia cricketer Mike Hussey slammed Rohit for berating Jaiswal as ex-England captain Michael Vaughan pointed out late on Day 4 that India had a big task at hand in getting Jaiswal in the right mindset for the mighty chase.

“I’ve got to be honest, I don’t like that reaction from the Indian skipper,” Hussey said on Fox Cricket. “I appreciate he’s emotional, and he desperately wants wickets, but you’re the one who has to send the message of calm and support… He’s gonna feel bad enough as it is for putting a catch down, especially someone like Marnus Labuschagne, it happens quickly… you don’t need to see that as a young player.”

Aussie star Alyssa Healy added: “Particularly when you need him to walk out and open the batting alongside you, to make some runs and try and win a Test match for your country.” Former Aussie cricketer Darren Berry tweeted: “You gotta feel for the kid Jaiswal has dropped 3 catches today. He might have dropped 3 crucial chances, the game & the series. His only answer is a match winning innings… (he) needs a pat on the back from his senior players not (to be) berated.”‍️

In a scathing article titled ‘Captain Cry Baby’, Australian media has ripped into Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma after his controversial outburst at young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal during a recent match.

The incident, which occurred during the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, saw Sharma losing his cool and shouting at Jaiswal after a misunderstanding in the field. The Indian captain’s behavior has been widely criticized, with many labelling him as ‘Captain Cry Baby’.

This latest controversy comes hot on the heels of the ‘Clown Kohli’ incident, where Sharma was seen mocking his Indian teammate Virat Kohli during a match. The Australian media has not held back in their criticism of Sharma, with one publication describing him as a ‘petulant child throwing a tantrum’.

Sharma’s behavior has been met with disdain from fans and pundits alike, with many calling for him to be reprimanded by the IPL authorities. It remains to be seen how the Indian captain will respond to the backlash, but one thing is for sure – his reputation has taken a significant hit in the eyes of the cricketing world.

‘Rohit Sharma is finished’: India captain told to ‘retire’, hand over leadership to Bumrah as fans lose patience

Rohit Sharma‘s return as an opener did not bear the desired result at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) as the right-handed batter once again registered a single-digit score in the series. Rohit, 37, lasted just five balls in the first innings of the fourth Test against Australia and departed after scoring just 3 runs.

The Indian captain has come under severe scrutiny and criticism for his below-par returns in Tests. As expected, netizens are not pleased with Rohit’s performance, and his latest dismissal has sparked a plethora of reactions on social media.

In his last 14 innings, Rohit Sharma has managed just 152 runs. After missing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener in Perth, Rohit has registered scores of 3,6,10 and 3. In the absence of Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah led India in the first Test, which the visitors won by 295 runs.

Rohit Sharma’s lack of runs and his captaincy are both being questioned. In the Melbourne Test, the management went in with three all-rounders (Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy).

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one user wrote, “Out of form is one thing, but Rohit Sharma is giving Negative Energy now. That Negative energy is reflecting not just on his batting performance but also showing on team. Never thought player like him will be washed like this even in sunset phase of career. But that’s what Test cricket does. Take Retirement and Leave.”

Here are some of the other reactions:

Even in the pink-ball practice game against Australia Prime Minister’s XI, Rohit disappointed, scoring just three runs. In the prior series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, the India captain registered one score of more than 50.

After Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting called out the Indian captain for playing a lazy shot. “That’s just a lazy, not-switched-on, not-up-for-the-moment type of shot,” Ricky Ponting said on 7 Cricket.

Earlier, former India captain and legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar had said that Rohit might retire if he fails to score runs in Melbourne and Sydney. Gavaskar made the comment during the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at Gabba, Brisbane.

“I think Rohit obviously will get the opportunity to play in the next couple of matches, that’s for sure. But maybe at the end of it, if he hasn’t scored runs, my feeling is that he himself will take the call,” he had said while doing commentary for ABC Sport.

“He’s a very conscientious cricketer, he will not want to be a burden on the team. He’s a cricketer who cares very deeply for Indian cricket. So if he doesn’t score runs in the next couple of games, I think he himself will step down,” he added.

Rohit Sharma is finished: India captain told to ‘retire’, hand over leadership to Bumrah as fans lose patience

After a disappointing performance by the Indian cricket team, fans have begun calling for captain Rohit Sharma to step down and retire from the game. The team’s recent series loss has left supporters frustrated and impatient, with many believing that it is time for a change in leadership.

Rohit Sharma, who took over the captaincy from Virat Kohli earlier this year, has failed to deliver the results that fans had hoped for. Despite his success as a player, many believe that he is not the right man to lead the team and that it is time for a new captain to take charge.

Some fans have even gone as far as to suggest that fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah should be handed the captaincy, citing his leadership qualities and impressive performances on the field. They believe that Bumrah has the potential to lead the team to success and that it is time for a fresh start.

As the calls for Rohit Sharma to step down grow louder, it remains to be seen how the Indian cricket board will respond. Will Rohit Sharma choose to retire from the game and hand over the reins to Bumrah, or will he fight to prove his critics wrong? Only time will tell.
