The weather system that provided a rainy respite for firefighters in California continued its roll across the nation Wednesday, and was forecast to spread rain, snow and ice along a 2,600-mile stretch from the Southwest to Northeast by the weekend, meteorologists say.

The main threats Wednesday include snow squalls in the Northeast and severe weather in the Great Plains.

This time Florida and other areas of the Gulf Coast appear likely to avoid frozen precipitation, a week after a record snowstorm blasted the Southeast.

But “locally heavy snow” and snow squalls were forecast for the Great Lakes and Northeast through Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

“Even in areas where there is not enough snow to accumulate or cause slippery travel, the bursts of snow will be ill-timed with morning, and perhaps late afternoon commutes,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.

Flooding rain and severe thunderstorms could slam the South Central U.S. and Mississippi Valley from Wednesday into Thursday, forecasters warned.

The storm brought an inch of rain to parts of Southern California and several inches of snow over the region’s mountains Sunday into Monday. Accumulating snow is possible from northern Arizona to Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska, beginning as early as Wednesday, AccuWeather said.

Farther south, up to 6 inches of rain could bring flooding and travel issues from central Texas to western Kentucky. By the end of the week, New York City will be one of the major metro areas that could see drenching rain or ice and snow, AccuWeather warned, adding that Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., could see several hours of heavy rain that could cause travel delays.

Snow squalls possible Wednesday in the Northeast

On Wednesday in the Northeast, the National Weather Service warned that snow squalls could cause intense bursts of heavy snow with gusty winds, resulting in periods of low visibility and dangerous driving conditions.

AccuWeather meteorologist Alyssa Glenny said that “after a period of steady snow moved across New York state and New England Tuesday night, spreading a swath of 1-3 inches of fresh accumulation, snow showers and squalls will tend to bubble up across the Northeast through Wednesday afternoon.”

Accumulating snow is expected from the eastern Great Lakes through interior New England, with the heaviest snow likely downwind of Lakes Ontario and Erie and in the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont, the weather service said.

Severe weather threat in the Plains

A few strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible across parts of the southern Great Plains both Wednesday and Thursday, the Storm Prediction Center said.

The potential for thunderstorms packing significant hail and powerful wind gusts will shift from central Texas on Wednesday to southeastern Texas on Thursday, AccuWeather said.

Florida warming up after historic snowfall

After a week of record-breaking cold temperatures and historic snowfall, Florida weather is back to normal. The Pensacola area is forecast to see high temperatures around 69 degrees on Wednesday before warming up to 70 on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

From Jan. 19-25, Pensacola’s average temperature was 33.8 degrees, which is 17.3 degrees below the average temperature for the same time frame, according to the weather service. A week ago Pensacola was slammed with 5 inches of snow, breaking the state record. Some nearby areas saw up to 10 inches.

Tallahassee and Jacksonville will see temperatures in the 70s throughout the week, and Jacksonville will have highs in the low 80s, according to AccuWeather. Central Florida and South Florida will have warm weather in the high 70s and low 80s throughout the week.

January much colder than normal in Northeast

AccuWeather, summarizing January temperatures observed so far, said the Northeast and I-95 corridor are tracking several degrees below the historical averages given the recent cold conditions that have gripped the region. Overall, Washington, D.C., is trending nearly 6 degrees below its historical averages, Philadelphia is around 5 degrees below, and New York City is around 4 degrees below, AccuWeather reported.

But while the Gulf Coast and parts of the South are still rebounding from a historic snowfall, the Northeast has seen relatively little snow so far this season.

“Cities like Philadelphia have only reported 4.9 inches of snow since Oct. 1, which is roughly 50% of the historical average snowfall during that time frame,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Courtney Travis said.

Rains may not help California for long

As the weather system that finally brought substantial rain to Southern California moves slowly east, battle-scarred residents may be wondering how long they’re safe from the kind of wildfires that have ravaged Los Angeles County neighborhoods this month. The approximate answer: Maybe a week?

That doesn’t mean such devastating infernos will return in early February, only that the weekend’s precipitation wasn’t strong enough to fully soak the drought-stricken region and eliminate fire danger.

“This might keep things down for a week or so,” AccuWeather meteorologist Alex DaSilva said. “They didn’t get an extreme amount of rain. It will help to douse the fires, but in a week or so it’s just going to be dry again.’’ Read more here.

Another big storm is on the horizon, set to sweep across the United States with a mix of snow and severe weather in its path. Meteorologists are predicting heavy snowfall in some areas, with blizzard conditions possible in the Midwest and Northeast.

The unit only had a few parts, and with the clear and easy-to-follow instructions, it was easy to assemble. It even came with the required tools, including 4 mm and 5mm Allen wrenches, one of which has a Phillips head on the other end. I don’t think anyone would want to use the enclosed Phillip’s head for the assembly, but it is there if needed. I used an electric screwdriver to screw the five wheels to the base and a regular Phillip’s head for the rest of the assembly. A heavy vertical post attaches at the back of the base. At the top of the post is a horizontal bar on which the TV will hang. To hang the TV on the bar, a frame must be attached to the back of the TV. To secure the frame on the TV, a large assortment of bolts is provided to accommodate different makes and sizes of TVs. There are also two sizes of spacers. My Samsung 55” required the large diameter bolt. The small length bolt was too short, and the longer bolt was too long. Thus, I needed spacers for the longer bolt. The large spacer was too large, and there were not enough smaller spacers to finish the project. Fortunately, I had the correct size bolts – a length between the enclosed short and long bolts – from another project. This should NOT be an issue for most of you. If it is a problem, the bolts are available at hardware stores for about a buck. You can attach a “cable management solution” to secure and hide the cables on the back of the vertical post. These are zip ties with a sticky backing. They were not “sticky enough” to stay secure to the post.

The base and vertical post are hefty. The two shelves, which are functional, adjustable, and easy to attach, look “cheap and flimsy.”

Some of the reviews claim the unit is sturdy with a TV attached. When stationary, the unit is okay. But let’s be honest; this unit consists of a relatively small base on wheels. At the rear of the base is a vertical post that goes up about four feet with a horizontal bar on the top. Hanging off the horizontal bar, 3 to 4 feet from the ground, is a 40+ pound TV. It will rock back and forth if you lightly push or touch the TV. Some similar units I looked at recommended that it be attached to the wall for added security. If you move the unit, especially on carpeting, it is very “tippy.” Even the instructions recommend two people move the unit.

Unlike some of the other units I looked at, on this one, it is relatively easy to adjust the height of the TV. Also, it is easy to turn the TV to the left or right.

It will not win any design awards, but it was inexpensive, easy to assemble, well made, and it got the job done.

My TV is a 58" Roku from Walmart. I was SO nervous to put it on this stand! Thinking it would be too big for the stand and was scared like heck it would possibly topple over, seeing as I've never heard of a 'rolling' TV stand before, or anything that looked like this other than having some heavy stand on the bottom to accommodate a heavy, expensive TV. But…… I'm happy to say, I was wrong!

I could see perhaps a 55" going on it just fine. But a 58", much less a 70"????! Yeah, I was a little nervous. But I took a chance.

It's just fine. Really. If you're concerned, don't be. It's pretty sturdy. It's good for my TV, anything bigger than that, then I may get a little nervous, especially if you move it around some time. But I think it would be fine.

I wanted to save space in my bedroom, so I choose this, and yes, I was nervous to try because it was something different than what I'm used to. And of course, it would be an added bonus to be able to move the thing easily without having to struggle when I move furniture around. Oh..my…God, this thing is ever so awesome.

The wheels could be of better quality, but they're ok. The locking mechanism is a little difficult. Not really as simple as locking it, but really trying to put some pressure with your foot on them and they're tiny and hard to reach. That's what I don't like. The wheels could be better. There are 5 total.

Like other reviews, I have to agree with the shelves. They suck. I think me personally, I would have to purchase a sticky pad or something non slip to be able to better secure my consoles on it, like my Xbox from sliding off. So far, it's holding everything ok.

You can hide the cords or wires. Comes with tape that is also a sort of ziptie looking thing on it. You lock the cords and stuff in place and tape them to the back of the stand. Very convenient.

In my case, came with all parts. Even provides you all the tools you need, like a Phillips screwdriver and Allen wrench. The instructions are actually surprisingly decent to get through. They are both English and Chinese language. I don't feel it's as thorough as I'd like though. There were some questionable things that wasn't explained in the manual, but we managed ok. There were pictures to help guide you and many different options to choose from depending on the type of back you have behind the TV. Like any weird shapes and stuff. I put this together with my boyfriend and absolutely this would definitely be a 2 person job. It's A LOT of work. It's very heavy, too. Of course. You can expect something like this to not be a piece of cake when assembling. There's going to be lots of work required. Took us about 2-3 hours, start to finish.

But honestly, I love it so much. It was so worth it, the money, the setup and all. It makes me wonder why I never thought of something like this before. I wonder how much time and horrible backaches something like this could've saved me over the years. It was worth the money.

What can you say other than comparatively perfect. No you do not get oddly shaped base. You get a full bottom shelf that is very large. You also get two very sturdy metal shelves. The column that holds up the television does not have two screws in it like most of the modern TV stands. It has eight. Four front and four back at its main connection point. As this is second generation they have more than likely corrected any flaws that the old model had. And an engineer did it. Please save yourself the heartache of all those old tippy stands. Buy this product today. Unless you have a pet rhino or bison you're going to have no trouble with this ever tipping over. The central column is thick heavy steel. At the point of contact with the really thick wooden base it has a thick steel panel that attaches to under the wooden base. The instructions are easy to follow. Wow! Now I must mention that I have arthritis and I am disabled in a wheelchair. It is very heavy in the box. I unboxed the entire thing on my bed and assembled it. Making sure to tighten all of the bolts correctly in an x pattern where that applies. This is a beautifully designed piece of engineering art. Simple,functional and tough. 10 stars. Seller shipped promptly and arrived as scheduled.
