Lakers Rumors Roundup: Myles Turner update, searching for point guard
The trade deadline is one week away and the Lakers are still searching for the right answer to their problems.
Is that a center? A point guard? A third star? A combination of those three?
The front office will assess those questions in the coming days. While fans wait, let’s catch up on the latest rumors and reports.
Myles on the move?
One of the names to emerge over the last week has been Myles Turner from the Pacers. Effectively, there was no report linking him to the Lakers other than people citing a history of links to the Lakers and Turner’s contract expiring at season’s end.
Naturally, since this didn’t have a starting point, there really isn’t much smoke to this one, at least according to longtime NBA reporter Marc Stein. In his latest Substack newsletter, Stein said the Pacers are only looking to move Turner if they get another starting center in return.
Yet the prevailing leaguewide sense, one week out from the trade buzzer, is that the Pacers do not want to trade Turner.
There is a strong belief among some league personnel that Indiana would need to see proposals that return a starting-level center to even consider the notion.
There are three-team machinations of deals that could potentially send the Pacers a starting center while landing the Lakers Turner, but those are complicated deals. And those are only possible if the Pacers want to move Turner, which remains to be seen.
Center not the biggest need?
While there’s been plenty of talk about the center position — and more to come shortly — that isn’t the only position of need for the Lakers currently.
After trading away D’Angelo Russell, the Lakers have been short on playmakers on the roster. There has been a heavy reliance on Austin Reaves and LeBron James in the starting lineup while Gabe Vincent’s recent strong play has come at a critical time.
However, that might not be a sustainable formula moving forward, and the Lakers know it. According to Dan Woike of the LA Times in a recent extensive piece, the need for another ball handler is very apparent even to those in the locker room.
A center also is not the Lakers’ lone need. According to players inside the locker room discouraged from publicly discussing trade targets, there’s a desire for more playmaking, a need that’s become clear since the team traded D’Angelo Russell.
As much as the discussion has been about the need for center, perhaps equally important is the need to bring in another guard. With Vincent out, the Lakers have to turn to one of Shake Milton or Bronny James and, as fans saw on Tuesday against the Sixers, those are not good solutions.
Looking for a big man
Ultimately, the Lakers’ trade deadline will probably be graded on whether they land another center. Although this has been a need for some time, Anthony Davis’ public remarks amplified the pressure on the front office to find an upgrade.
But the Lakers are not alone in searching for a center. As Woike also noted in his piece, the price for big men is high as the deadline nears.
In conversations with executives inside and outside of the organization, it’s become clear that the costs for starting-caliber NBA centers are high — particularly ones good enough to force the Lakers into the kind of seismic change that moving Davis to power forward and LeBron James to small forward would cause.
Trading for a big man just for the sake of bringing in another center isn’t going to solve any problems. Finding one that can both complement AD and also excel without him is quite the needle to thread.
But, Woike still reports that the team is looking for potential options.
The Lakers have been actively exploring adding a big man, though it’s not being done recklessly, according to NBA executives. Concerns about cost, fitting Redick’s preferred style of play and the ripples from moving Davis — namely playing James major minutes at small forward — are being weighed.
With Walker Kessler, the No. 1 target for most fans, seemingly unavailable at the deadline, it really thins the list of players who fit all the criteria the Lakers need.
The Lakers aren’t in a particularly easy situation to find upgrades, but they certainly are under a lot of pressure to do so. Sure sounds like fun!

The Los Angeles Lakers are not wasting any time in their quest to fill out their roster for the upcoming season. With the trade deadline looming, the Lakers are actively looking for a point guard to bolster their backcourt. One of the names that has been circulating in Lakers rumors is Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers. The 25-year-old center is known for his shot-blocking prowess and would provide a defensive anchor in the paint for the Lakers. However, reports indicate that the Pacers are asking for a hefty price in return for Turner, potentially including a combination of draft picks and young players.
While the Lakers are intrigued by the possibility of adding Turner to their lineup, they are also exploring other options at the point guard position. With LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way, the Lakers are looking for a playmaker who can facilitate the offense and take pressure off of their star duo.
Names like Kyle Lowry of the Toronto Raptors and Lonzo Ball of the New Orleans Pelicans have been mentioned in Lakers rumors as potential targets. Both guards bring different skill sets to the table, with Lowry known for his leadership and championship experience, while Ball is a young and talented playmaker with room to grow.
As the trade deadline approaches, Lakers fans will be eagerly anticipating any updates on potential acquisitions. With a championship on the line, the Lakers are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of adding talent to their roster. Stay tuned for more Lakers rumors as the deadline draws near.

Sixers power ranking roundup: Can this team find a defensive identity?
Today is Wednesday, and that means the time has come to take the temperature of the national media’s feelings about this year’s Sixers team. Let’s get into it:
NBA.com: 22 (no change from last week)
It is no secret that Joel Embiid’s prolonged absences have complicated the Sixers’ path to winning games on a consistent basis. Writer John Schuhmann points out how the team’s win on Saturday night could be a sign of progress after a disastrous loss earlier in the week:
“The win in Chicago (their first win in the second game of a back-to-back) was also, statistically, the Sixers’ best defensive game (97 points allowed on 102 possessions) without Joel Embiid, who’s now missed the last 11 games. They’ve still rank 29th defensively and last in total rebounding percentage over his absence. The Nuggets’ 144 points on 97 possessions on Tuesday was the most efficient performance for any team this season.” [NBA.com]
Even a few days later, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse made a point to rave about his team’s defensive effort in Chicago. On the second leg of a home-road back-to-back, playing against one of the fastest-paced teams in recent memory, the Sixers were able to lock in as a defense and force a ton of late turnovers to put the game away.

ESPN: 22 (+1 from last week)
Perhaps the only real break the Sixers have caught this season is the overall incompetence in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference. Writer Tim Bontemps explains:
“To show how weak the bottom of the Eastern Conference is: The 76ers lost seven games in a row earlier this month before pulling off back-to-back victories over the Cavaliers and Bulls and gained a game on the 10th-place Bulls in that span. This is why the ongoing belief is that no matter how hard Philadelphia tries, it’s probably going to remain in the fight for a play-in spot until the end of the season.” [ESPN]
The Chicago Bulls remain the team to watch, as the Sixers are now just one game back of the Eastern Conference’s No. 10 seed. But with the knowledge that they will only keep their first-round pick if it falls within the top 10 selections and plenty of veterans to trade, the Bulls could consider making a business decision.
The Athletic: 22 (+1 from last week)
In his power rankings, Law Murray details each team’s performance in the first and second quarters of the regular season now that the midway point has been crossed:
“Philadelphia began the season with an average defense and a terrible offense. The second quarter of the season went better, but now it’s the offense that is average while the defense struggles. The Sixers miss the rim protection Joel Embiid would provide, and it’s leaving Philadelphia as the worst defense at the rim in the league.” [The Athletic]
Of course, Embiid’s otherworldly scoring capabilities are greatly missed whenever he is not on the floor. But without consistent rim protection behind him, his loss has been felt to a tremendous degree on the defensive end of the floor as well.

The Philadelphia 76ers have had an up-and-down start to the season, currently sitting at 6-4 and trying to find their footing on the defensive end. Let’s take a look at how various power rankings are assessing the team’s performance:1. ESPN: The 76ers are ranked 7th in ESPN’s latest power rankings, with a focus on their defensive struggles. The team has the potential to be a defensive powerhouse with players like Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, but they have yet to find a consistent identity on that end of the court.
2. NBA.com: According to NBA.com, the Sixers are ranked 9th, with a note on their offensive efficiency. While their defense has been lacking at times, their offense has been clicking, thanks in large part to the play of Tobias Harris and Seth Curry.
3. Bleacher Report: Bleacher Report has the 76ers ranked 8th, highlighting their potential for improvement on defense. With new head coach Doc Rivers at the helm, there is optimism that the team can figure out their defensive issues and become a more well-rounded squad.
4. CBS Sports: CBS Sports has the Sixers ranked 6th, pointing to their strong start to the season despite their defensive struggles. They believe that once the team figures out their defensive identity, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference.
Overall, it’s clear that the Sixers have the pieces to be a top team in the league, but they need to figure out their defensive identity in order to reach their full potential. Only time will tell if they can make the necessary adjustments and become a more well-rounded team.

Trade Rumor Roundup: Bogi, Capela out, Brandon Ingram, Nurkic in?
We may be in store for a busy trade deadline.
The Hawks currently sit at 22-26 — still in the mix for the Eastern Conference Play-In Tournament — but will have to forge on without Jalen Johnson for the remainder of the season. As a reminder, their own first-round pick is out the door, but they do have the Lakers’ unprotected first-round pick and possibly Sacramento’s as well this season.
Clint Capela and Bogdan Bogdanovic have been important members to the team since the 2020-21 season, but recently the pair has been held out of competition for health and ‘away from team’ reasons per the organization. All that has led to speculation that one or both may be moved prior to Thursday’s trade deadline.
Marc Stein posted on his Substack blog on Thursday, 1/30/25, 9:30 AM about Bogdan Bogdanovic’s possible availability:
It has been known for some time that Atlanta is willing to trade veteran center Clint Capela, but league sources say that the Hawks have begun actively exploring the trade market for their own perimeter specialist: Bogdan Bogdanović.
Bogdanović has not shot the ball anywhere close to his usual standards this season at 37.1% from the field and 30.1% from deep. Yet he still has fans around the league and has to be monitored closely given the credible whispers this week that he could be on the move.
Any interested team has to be comfortable with the contractual realities on Bogdanović: The 32-year-old has one guaranteed year left on his contract and $16 million in 2025-26 before a $16 million team option (rather than player option) in 2026-27.
That same day, Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic reported that the Suns and the Hawks discussed trade scenarios involving out-of-favor center Jusuf Nurkic, including a nod to the reporting of Michael Scotto of HoopsHype:
Sources have informed The Arizona Republic the Suns have been talking to teams throughout the league about trading 7-footer Jusuf Nurkic, with the Atlanta Hawks being one of those teams.
[…]
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported this week the Suns are looking to pair up one of the first-round picks they obtained from Utah with Nurkic to acquire a “high-level” rotation player.
Just looking at the Hawks and based on contracts alone, the Suns could trade Nurkic and a first-round pick for guard Bogdan Bogdanovic, who is due $17.2 million this season.
Finally, on Friday there came reporting from Brian Windhorst of ESPN involving Brandon Ingram on Get Up:
Brandon Ingram is a guy who’s been on the trade block for months. […] I’m seeing a little bit of a warmup in some talks between [Ingram and Zach LaVine]. Specifically, keep an eye on the Atlanta Hawks.
They just lost their star wing Jalen Johnson for the season. They may start to get interested in making a move, especially for Brandon Ingram. Keep an eye on that.
Brad Rowland of the Locked on Hawks podcast echoes those rumors that he’s heard buzz surrounding this situation.
Clearly, the Hawks are making phone calls and exploring different scenarios for trades that may or may not happen by Thursday afternoon.
Ingram, in particular, is a surprising to Atlanta given his reported desire to land a large contract in the offseason. He’s only appeared in 18 games to this point, but he’s a proven 20+ point-per-game scorer and can aide in turning around the Hawks’ shooting struggles…at least for the final two months of the season and health permitting.
What do you make of these rumors?
In the latest NBA trade rumor roundup, it seems like the Atlanta Hawks are looking to shake things up by potentially trading away Bogdan Bogdanovic and Clint Capela. Reports suggest that the New Orleans Pelicans are interested in acquiring Bogi, while the Portland Trail Blazers are eyeing Capela. On the flip side, the Hawks are rumored to be targeting Brandon Ingram from the Pelicans and Jusuf Nurkic from the Blazers in potential trades. Ingram, a former All-Star, could provide a scoring punch for Atlanta, while Nurkic’s defensive presence and rebounding could bolster their frontcourt.
It’s still uncertain whether these rumored trades will come to fruition, but it’s clear that the Hawks are exploring all options to improve their roster. Stay tuned for more updates as the NBA trade deadline approaches.

#Roundup #Dual #Action #Weed #Grass #Killer #Month #Preventer #Concentrate #Kills #Prevents #Year #fl.oz,for 1 year plusNHL Rumor Roundup: Updates On Mikko Rantanen, Ivan Provorov And Rasmus Ristolainen
Contract talks between the Colorado Avalanche and right winger Mikko Rantanen have stalled, prompting Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman to suggest they set a deadline to spur action on the matter.
The 28-year-old Rantanen is eligible for UFA status on July 1. He’s in the final season of a six-year contract with an average annual value of $9.5 million.
It’s believed the Rantanen camp seeks something comparable to the $14 million average annual value that the Edmonton Oilers will pay Leon Draisaitl starting on July 1. The Avalanche prefer he accepts something closer to teammate Nathan MacKinnon’s $12.6 million.
Friedman wondered if the Avalanche would consider the March 7 NHL trade deadline as the cut-off date or if they’ll take their chances if he’s unsigned beyond then. However, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli recently reported the Avalanche aren’t shopping Rantanen as the two sides intend to revisit contract talks following next month’s 4 Nations Face-Off. The Hockey News’ Adam Proteau, meanwhile, believes they would have traded Rantanen by now if they were really at odds with each other.

Turning to the Columbus Blue Jackets, TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported last month that Ivan Provorov could be open to signing a contract extension. The 28-year-old defenseman is in the final season of a six-year deal with an average annual value of $6.75 million.
In his recent column for The Athletic, LeBrun wrote there’s mutual interest between Provorov and Blue Jackets management in an extension. He could seek the maximum eight-year deal, but the Jackets might prefer something shorter, given the promising talent within their prospect pipeline.
LeBrun believes the Blue Jackets could peddle Provorov if he’s unsigned by the trade deadline. However, they’re jockeying for a wild-card berth in the Eastern Conference. Given everything the underdog Jackets have been through since last year, they could retain Provorov to improve their chances of clinching a playoff berth.

Speaking of defensemen, Rasmus Ristolainen of the Philadelphia Flyers remains a player of interest in the trade market.
The 30-year-old Ristolainen has two years remaining on his contract with a $5.1-million cap hit and lacks no-trade protection. He’d draw interest from clubs seeking defensemen with term remaining on their deals.
The Hockey News’ Siobhan Nolan reports Flyers GM Daniel Briere said he’s not shopping Ristolainen. Teams have called, but Briere cited the blueliner’s improvement and his value to the club’s defense corps.
That doesn’t mean Briere wouldn’t trade Ristolainen, but it would take a significant offer to tempt him, like a first-line center.

Seth Rogen’s nonprofit Hilarity for Charity is behind the documentary “Taking Care,” which premiered Jan. 13 on Fuse and Fuse+, and will now be available to watch on Amazon, iTunes and Google Play beginning Jan. 22.
“‘Taking Care’ is a story about family, resilience, and the power of taking action in the face of adversity. With expert insights and touching personal moments, the film is a powerful reminder of the difference we can all make in the effort to end Alzheimer’s. Whether you’re drawn to stories of resilience, advocacy, or how laughter and love can help us through life’s toughest moments, this film will leave you inspired and hopeful. ‘Taking Care’ is about the legacies we choose to embrace – and those we strive to change – for a better future,” reads the film’s description.
James Keach directed and produced the project. Lauren Miller Rogen, Seth Rogen, Nancy Lynn Keach, Daniel Miller, Bonnie Wattles, Laura Cardona, Morgan Hanner and Sarah Lenz Lock executive produce. “Taking Care” is presented by Hilarity for Charity and PCH Films alongside BrightFocus Foundation and AARP’s Brain Health Action.
“The idea for this documentary came to me while I was going through the Alzheimer’s journey with my mom,” said Miller Rogen. “She was a teacher and if she had a microphone to teach someone something, she would take it. I decided to fight back against this terrible disease by sharing her story and educating people about what they can do to support caregivers and research, but also about the importance of prevention through brain health education.”

“The Buddy Way,” the upcoming ESPN documentary executive produced by Peyton Manning, will debut on Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. ET.
The documentary follows the historic career of Coach Eugene F. “Buddy” Teevens III, starting from his early years in Pembroke, Mass. before tracking his time as a multi-sport athlete and his important role at the Manning Passing Academy. The film blends new footage and behind-the-scenes interviews with Teevens’ family.
“We are honored to share Buddy’s story and preserve his legacy,” Manning said. “Buddy’s motto as a coach and leader was “adjust and improvise.” But it was more than a motto; Buddy was a true football innovator. He hired female coaches in the college ranks before anybody else, and he emphasized smarter and safer tackling long before the practice was adopted across the sport. Buddy was a terrific coach, but the legacy Buddy leaves behind extends well beyond his success on the field.”
“The Buddy Way” will premiere Jan. 29 on ESPN2 and will be available to stream on ESPN+ following its linear debut.
