Ruben Amorim reaction — Manchester United boss on Crystal Palace loss, Lisandro Martinez injury
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim will be rueing wasteful finishing, rough defending, and a potentially huge injury in the Red Devils’ 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a brace for the visiting Eagles, yet on another day the goals would’ve been a part of a thrilling score line.
[ MORE: Man United vs Crystal Palace recap ]
United took 14 shots but only asked former goalkeeper Dean Henderson to make two saves for the visitors, as Henderson controlled the Palace box with six recoveries.
Amorim’s men held 65% of the ball but were poor without the ball for much of the other 35%, as defender Harry Maguire had a rough day amidst a recent resurgence in the back line.
Adding injury to the insult was a scary Lisandro Martinez injury that left the Argentine back in tears as he was stretchered off the pitch.

Ruben Amorim reaction — Manchester United boss on Crystal Palace loss, Lisandro Martinez injuryManchester United suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, prompting manager Ruben Amorim to address the team’s performance and the injury to defender Lisandro Martinez.
Amorim expressed his frustration after the loss, stating that the team failed to execute their game plan and lacked the necessary intensity on the field. He emphasized the need for his players to bounce back quickly and learn from their mistakes in order to improve moving forward.
The injury to Lisandro Martinez also raised concerns for Amorim, as the defender was forced off the field in the first half with a suspected ankle injury. The extent of Martinez’s injury is still unknown, but Amorim expressed his hope for a speedy recovery and praised the defender for his contributions to the team so far this season.
Overall, Amorim remains determined to turn things around for Manchester United and is focused on regaining their winning form in the upcoming matches. Fans will be eagerly anticipating the team’s response in their next game as they look to bounce back from this disappointing result.

#Ruben #Amorim #reaction #Manchester #United #boss #Crystal #Palace #loss #Lisandro #Martinez #injuryMan Utd sign Patrick Dorgu: Can ‘glitch in the matrix’ solve Ruben Amorim’s problem?
Dorgu’s story began with local youth football in his home city of Copenhagen, as well as playing with his siblings. One of his brothers is an attacker for Genoa’s under-20 team, while the other is a goalkeeper in Denmark’s lower leagues.
At 12 years old he was scouted by Danish Superliga side Nordsjaelland, a club – owned by the Right To Dream academy in Ghana – renowned for producing promising young talents. Brighton’s Simon Adingra and Brentford duo Mathias Jensen and Mikkel Damsgaard are among the academy’s alumni.
Nordsjaelland are specialists at developing youngsters, with the best of the best spending a season or two with the first team before moving on.
Yet in 2022, newly promoted Serie A side Lecce paid about €200,000 (£167,000) to sign the then 17-year-old Dorgu before he had made a single senior appearance.
“He’s sort of a glitch in the matrix,” Karsten Krogh, Serie A journalist at Danish podcast Mediano, tells BBC Sport.
“He never really did that well as a youth player in Denmark, he was never a star anywhere. It wasn’t like the other teams in Denmark were lining up to get his signature.”
After helping Lecce win the Italian under-19 title in his first season, the club’s then-first team manager Roberto d’Aversa fast-tracked Dorgu into his squad.
“He’s growing a lot and I see a bright future for him,” D’Aversa said at the time.
“In football there are no ages, there are strong players and less strong ones. He is one of the strong players.”
This season Dorgu has switched between the right wing and left-back in a back four, providing three assists and scoring once while starting all but one of Lecce’s Serie A games.
His performances have convinced United to take action, even if his childhood dream was to play for Chelsea.
In a surprising move, Manchester United has signed Portuguese midfielder Patrick Dorgu in a deal that has left many fans scratching their heads. With Ruben Amorim struggling to find his form in recent matches, could this ‘glitch in the matrix’ be the solution to his problem?Dorgu, known for his lightning-fast speed and precision passing, could provide the creative spark that United has been missing in midfield. With his ability to break down defenses and create scoring opportunities, he could be the key to unlocking United’s attacking potential.
However, some skeptics are questioning whether Dorgu is the right fit for United’s style of play. With Amorim’s struggles, the pressure will be on Dorgu to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact.
Only time will tell if this unexpected signing will pay off for United. Can Dorgu be the missing piece in the puzzle that helps United turn their season around? Or will this ‘glitch in the matrix’ only add to Amorim’s problems? Stay tuned to find out.

Ruben Gallego’s Senate committee assignments include Homeland Security
U.S. Sen.-elect Ruben Gallego will sit on the Homeland Security Committee in the new Congress that begins Friday and comes as the nation confronts the apparent terrorist attack in New Orleans.
Gallego, D-Ariz., along with every member of the next Senate and House of Representatives, will be formally sworn in Friday.
Incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., announced committee assignments for a slimmed-down Democratic caucus on Thursday. Republicans won control of the House and Senate in the November elections.
Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., kept his posts on the Armed Services, Intelligence and Environment committees.Gallego, who joins the Senate after five terms in the House, is also joining the Banking, Energy and Natural Resources, and Veterans Affairs committees.
“Arizonans sent me to the Senate to fight for them, and these committee assignments put me and our team directly in the position to do just that,” Gallego said in a statement Thursday. “I’m excited to get to work and deliver solutions to secure Arizona’s border, reform our broken immigration system, bring down the cost of housing and energy, and support Arizona’s veterans.”
Homeland Security figures to center on border security matters that played a prominent role in President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign message. The New Year’s attack in New Orleans that killed at least 14 people could add new security measures to the GOP agenda.
Gallego was a longtime member of the House Natural Resources Committee. In the Senate, the committee offers an opportunity to advocate for water security in Arizona and the Southwest.
Gallego will succeed retiring Sen. Krysten Sinema, I-Ariz., who steps down after one term. She was a member of the Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs committees that Gallego will now join. She also was a member of the Appropriations and Commerce committees.
Ruben Gallego, a Democrat from Arizona, has been appointed to serve on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. This committee plays a crucial role in overseeing the Department of Homeland Security and ensuring the safety and security of the United States. As a member of this committee, Gallego will have the opportunity to shape policies related to national security, emergency preparedness, border security, and other critical issues. His experience as a veteran and former member of the House Armed Services Committee makes him well-equipped to tackle these complex challenges.
Gallego’s appointment to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs is a testament to his dedication to serving his constituents and his commitment to keeping our country safe. We look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have in this important role.

Our football betting expert Jones Knows is back to provide his Premier League insight and thinks Man Utd are being overlooked in betting against Newcastle.
Aston Villa vs Brighton, Monday 7.45pm
Backing Brighton as outsiders makes sense in these sorts of games. The type of forward they like to recruit tends to flourish when playing in transition but struggle when tasked with breaking down a low block. To score just one goal from 67 shots this season in home games against Brentford, Southampton and Ipswich tells you all you need to know about how flaky the Brighton forwards are when it comes to finishing.
However, despite now going six games without a win, Fabian Hurzeler’s team have beaten Bournemouth, Man City, Newcastle, Tottenham, Man Utd and drawn with Arsenal this season where opposition teams offer them more space to play. At 5/6 with Sky Bet, they are one of the best bets of the card on the double chance at Villa Park.
SCORE PREDICTION: 1-2 | JONES KNOWS’ BEST BET: Brighton double chance (5/6 with Sky Bet)
Ipswich vs Chelsea, Monday 7.45pm
Ipswich have now lost five of their last six games – only Southampton (2) have fewer points over that period. It’s becoming rather bleak for them.
Confidence looks shot in the final third with the free-flowing, flexible attacking patterns that we saw rip up the Sky Bet Championship last season a distant memory. They’ve scored just two or more goals in four of their 18 games this season, blanking in four of their last six. Omari Hutchinson’s form has completely dipped while Liam Delap is now feeding off scraps.
A Chelsea win to nil at 7/4 with Sky Bet looks a nice way to boost the outright away win price.
SCORE PREDICTION: 0-2
Manchester United vs Newcastle, Monday 8pm, live on Sky Sports
I’m swimming against the tide here and remain quite positive on Manchester United’s prospects under this manager, especially from a defensive point of view. The structure and organisation is so much more secure than under Erik ten Hag and may just lead to positive results when confidence returns and Bruno Fernandes stops getting sent off.
The expected goals data does suggest Ruben Amorim’s influence is already stabilising them slightly, albeit the results make that hard to believe.
The market has moved too much towards the untrustworthy Toon here who have only won three on the road in their last 10 games in all competitions and were beaten 3-2 by Ten Hag’s side last season at Old Trafford. I’ll put my crash helmet on and advise Man Utd on the draw no bet at 10/11 with Sky Bet with no confidence whatsoever purely based on the price.
SCORE PREDICTION: 1-1
Brentford vs Arsenal, Wednesday 5.30pm
Thomas Frank lost two more key members of his Brentford back line to take their total number of injured players to 11 in the dogged draw at Brighton. Such depletion is going to bite sooner or later and this could be where that tide turns.
Arsenal, without grabbing many plaudits, do seem to have their game-heads on again in terms of winning games. Declan Rice’s return to form may have something to do with that – he’s looked more himself in the last few weeks and is carrying a big goalscoring threat from midfield.
He netted in the win at Palace and went close with two strikes in the comfortable 1-0 win over Ipswich. The 18/1 on him to score first with Sky Bet is too big. Back it.
SCORE PREDICTION: 0-3 | JONES KNOWS’ BEST BET: Declan Rice to score first (18/1 with Sky Bet)

The decision was met with a mix of shock and applause from the crowd, with many fans cheering the manager’s brave call.
Former United player and current pundit Gary Neville was quick to react to the substitution, calling it “brutal” but also acknowledging the manager’s courage in making such a bold move. Gary Neville blasts Man United as ‘the worst pound-for-pound team in the country’ as Ruben Amorim’s side are mauled by Newcastle in the first half at Old Trafford

- Ruben Amorim’s side found themselves 2-0 down with just 19 minutes played
- LISTEN NOW: It’s All Kicking Off! New formation, some new faces, but the optimism has gone at Old Trafford
Gary Neville has blasted Manchester United as ‘the worst pound-for-pound football club in the country’ following their woeful first half against Newcastle.
United went into the game in 14th place in the Premier League and they made a woeful start at Old Trafford as Alexander Isak put Newcastle ahead after just four minutes.
There was further misery to come as Joelinton put the visitors 2-0 up in the 19th minute.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: ‘You are watching the worst pound-for-pound football club in the country. They are that bad.’
United boss Ruben Amorim reacted by substituting forward Joshua Zirkzee after just 33 minutes, with Kobbie Mainoo replacing him.
It has been a woeful season for United so far, with the appointment of Amorim having not had the desired effect so far.

Ruben Amorim’s side found themselves 2-0 down after just 19 minutes against Newcastle
Amorim reacted by withdrawing forward Joshua Zirkzee with just 33 minutes played
Former United defender Neville didn’t hold back in his criticism of the Red Devils
After he succeeded Erik ten Hag there was much excitement at United when Amorim was appointed.
However, he went into the game against Newcastle with a mixed record of four wins, one draw and five defeats in ten matches.
Many United players have underperformed this season, with it being clear that the squad is in need of an overhaul.
The January transfer window could represent a chance for United to improve their squad.
However, there is much work for Amorim to do and there also remains uncertainty over the future of Marcus Rashford, despite the forward having returned to the matchday squad against Newcastle.
Rashford had been left out by Amorim for United’s previous four games.
Former Manchester United player and current football pundit Gary Neville has not held back in his criticism of his former club, labeling them as ‘the worst pound-for-pound team in the country’ after their dismal performance against Newcastle at Old Trafford.Neville’s scathing comments come after United were mauled by Ruben Amorim’s side in the first half, with the visitors taking a commanding lead early on. The Red Devils struggled to cope with Newcastle’s attacking prowess and were left chasing the game as they fell behind by multiple goals.
The former England international did not mince his words as he lambasted United’s lackluster display, questioning their commitment, desire, and overall quality on the pitch. Neville’s assessment is sure to ruffle feathers among the United faithful, who have been left frustrated by the team’s inconsistent performances in recent weeks.
As the pressure mounts on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players, Neville’s comments serve as a stark reminder of the high standards expected at a club of United’s stature. With tough fixtures on the horizon, including a crucial Champions League clash against Villarreal, the Red Devils will need to quickly address their issues if they are to salvage their season and appease their disgruntled fans.

Fans spot what Joshua Zirkzee did after storming down tunnel following brutal substitution from Ruben Amorim – Man Utd
Fans picked up on what Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee did after storming down the tunnel when brutally substituted just 32 minutes into the game against Newcastle.
United were looking to end a wretched 2024 with a victory at Old Trafford but found themselves 2-0 down after 20 minutes, with both Alexander Isak and Joelinton finding the net for the visitors.
The Red Devils were completely outplayed by the Magpies and after being destroyed for 30 minutes, Ruben Amorim made a decision to make an early change.
Kobbie Mainoo got changed into his kit and warmed up on the touchline before it was announced that he would be replacing Zirkzee, who had lined up on the left.
The summer signing’s withdrawal was met with sarcastic cheers and after a brief handshake with Amorim, the dejected Dutchman grabbed his coat and jogged down the tunnel.
A few minutes later and with the game continuing, the former Bayern Munich man did return to take his place on the bench.

Having slammed the fans’ reaction to Zirkzee going off on commentary for Sky Sports, former United skipper Gary Neville suggested that Zirkzee had been told by a member of staff to get back to the dugout – finding it hard to believe he had merely ran down the tunnel “for a lucozade”.
Neville expresses sympathy for Zirkzee
Zirkzee has struggled since signing for United in a £36.5 million fee, scoring just four goals in 25 appearances. United supporters quickly ran out of patience with him after a series of frustrating displays but Neville did not like seeing what happened to him.
“I actually feel sorry for Joshua Zirkzee,” Neville said on Sky Sports.
“He was bought for big money but there is a human being in there.”
“He is essentially being cheered off by his own fans. He’s has not been good but they’ve all been poor.”

The young forward, who plays for Manchester United, was visibly frustrated as he made his way off the pitch, but what happened next caught everyone’s attention. As Zirkzee reached the tunnel, he was seen taking a deep breath and shaking his head in disappointment. However, instead of disappearing into the dressing room, he stopped and turned back towards the pitch. Fans watched in awe as he stood there for a moment, seemingly gathering his thoughts before finally walking off.
This small gesture did not go unnoticed by supporters, who praised Zirkzee for showing maturity and resilience in the face of adversity. Many took to social media to commend the player for his professionalism and determination, even in a difficult moment.
It’s clear that Joshua Zirkzee’s passion for the game and his commitment to his team shine through, even in the toughest of times. This display of character will undoubtedly endear him to fans even more, and prove that he is a player worth watching in the future.

Hull City manager Ruben Selles reacts to his side’s 1-0 defeat against Preston North End at Deepdale:
“We created situations to score at least one goal and then in one moment we went 1-0 down and never recovered in terms of the score. I think we were competitive enough.”
“We created situations, it’s not just the situation with Regan (Slater) after five minutes. We created other situations and we need to make it count, but we created the situations so we just need to work on the details.
“You come away from difficult games in difficult competitions and first of all we need to be competitive and second of all we need to win football matches.
“Without being competitive we are not going to win games. We need to continue developing that competitiveness and in games like today, when we have the opportunities, we have to make it count and then we’ll be in a better place.
“We have to try to not make excuses. We know we can do things. Now we have to do it to the very end.”
Preston North End secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Hull City in a tightly contested Championship clash. The only goal of the game came from a well-taken strike by Emil Riis Jakobsen in the first half.Despite the win, Preston’s assistant manager Ruben Selles was quick to point out the need for more clinical finishing from his side. Speaking after the match, Selles emphasized the importance of converting more of their chances to goals in order to secure more comfortable victories in the future.
Selles praised the team’s performance overall but acknowledged that they need to be more ruthless in front of goal. He urged the players to work on their finishing in training and to be more composed when presented with scoring opportunities.
With the win, Preston moved up the Championship table and will be looking to build on this result in their upcoming fixtures. Selles will be hoping that his message resonates with the players and that they can improve their finishing in order to continue their positive momentum in the league.
