  • ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Trailer & Poster – Death Runs in the Family!

Called “one of the best movies I’ve seen this year” by Stephen King last year, Shudder and IFC Films’ The Rule of Jenny Pen has released its first official teaser trailer this week.

The Rule of Jenny Pen is coming to theaters on March 7. The film will make its at-home debut on Shudder at a later date this year. While you wait, watch the teaser trailer below.

The teaser soaks you in the bizarre dread of the movie set inside an assisted living facility, introducing the characters played by Hollywood veterans John Lithgow and Geoffrey Rush.

In the film, “A former judge goes toe-to-toe with an elderly psychopath (John Lithgow) who is using a hand puppet to terrorize the residents at an assisted living facility.”

    Here’s the full plot synopsis…

“Arrogant Judge Stefan Mortensen (Rush) suffers a near-fatal stroke, leaving him partially paralyzed and confined to a retirement home. Resistant to the staff and distant from his friendly roommate, Mortensen soon clashes with seemingly gentle resident Dave Crealy (Lithgow) who secretly terrorizes the home with a sadistic game called “The Rule of Jenny Pen” while wielding his dementia doll as an instrument of cruelty. What begins as childish torment quickly escalates into far more sinister and disturbing incidents. When Mortensen’s pleas to the staff go unanswered, he takes it upon himself to put an end to Crealy’s reign of terror.”

Directed by James Ashcroft and co-written by Eli Kent and Ashcroft, this year’s The Rule of Jenny Pen follows Ashcroft’s acclaimed feature debut Coming Home in the Dark.

Post-The Rule of Jenny Pen, James Ashcroft is working on a slate of features including Max Brooks’ Devolution and Grady Hendrix’ How To Sell A Haunted House for Legendary Studios and Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures, The Whisper Man for the Russo Brother’s AGBO Productions/Netflix, and an adaptation of the graphic novel Old Haunts for AWA Studios.

  • Why Steve Smith is probably the last to score 10,000 Test runs – Osman Samiuddin

Smith-esque. That is to say, the shot that brought Steve Smith his 10,000th Test run was not pretty or ugly. It was just very Smith: a whole lot of fidgety movement, teasing a flamingo, all very compelling, all very watchable for its enduring weirdness, all for a single to wide mid-on. In doing so he became the 15th batter to make it to 10,000 runs. He could be the last.
Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli are, respectively, 724 and 770 runs short, and on the surface, not that far. But the modern cricket calendar is working against Williamson getting there. He is 34, has a maximum of four Tests this year, his 15th as a Test player, and has presently opted out of a central contract. Meanwhile, invisible stumps outside off as well as general bad juju seem to be conspiring against Kohli. He has nine Tests potentially this year, although five this summer in England loom first as decisive.

Even if either or both get there, they’ll be the last for a while. Angelo Mathews and Dimuth Karunaratne are the next two in line, but neither will get there, if only because they won’t play enough Tests to score the 2000-odd runs they need. Even Marnus Labuschagne, who is 30, has played 56 Tests, and plays for a country that plays enough Tests, is over 5000 runs away currently.

Which might, in time, create the same aura around Smith’s feat as when Sunil Gavaskar became the first man to get there, nearly 40 years ago: it was distant, towering, impossible, unimaginable. It remained that way for a while once Gavaskar had late-dabbed Ijaz Faqih for those runs and said that he’d have been happy enough with a thousand runs, let alone the 9000 extra. Allan Border didn’t get there until nearly six years later, a pioneer for the likes of Steve Waugh, Younis Khan and Rahul Dravid in the 10k club, for making it look like the slog it must have been.

And then nobody else for a decade.

But when Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar got there, within six months of each other, it begat an age when getting to 10k happened often enough that some of the extraordinariness of the feat started slipping away. It wasn’t humdrum, but for a while in the 2000s, as six batters got there, it did feel a little commonplace. It spoke not only of a spike in the amount of Test cricket being played, but also perhaps of a golden age for batting: of the 30 batters with over 50 Tests in the 2000s, 11 finished with a 50-plus average.
Then, Dravid, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, one after the other in less than a year to round off a glutton’s decade. Five more got there in the 2010s, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara bromancing so hard they decided to get there exactly a year apart. Shivnarine Chanderpaul shuffled to the mark quietly between them. It took Chanderpaul over 18 years – the longest in terms of time – to get there from his debut, which is such a pleasing old-world fact. Who plays Tests for two decades anymore? Who takes that much time over anything anymore?

It’s easy enough to argue for the greatness of all these batters. It’s also easy to argue – as becomes clearer watching cricket of this era – that the 2000s, in particular, was a golden age for batting pitches.

Two of the last four to reach the landmark are English. Joe Root got there in half the time Chanderpaul took, and 22 Tests fewer. If you say out loud what this means – that Root scored 10,000 runs in less than ten years – it sounds ridiculous. He beat Alastair Cook’s record for the shortest time taken to get there (just over ten years). Given how many more Tests England play than any other nation, Cook and Root got there with a greater sense of inevitability than most on that list.

Smith’s 10,000 is a reminder alas that nothing about batting, about cricket, about sport, about life, is inevitable.

Steve Smith is undoubtedly one of the greatest batsmen of our generation, but why is he most likely the last player to reach the milestone of 10,000 Test runs?

There are a few reasons for this prediction. Firstly, the modern game has seen a shift towards shorter formats such as T20 and ODI cricket, which means that players are playing fewer Test matches and therefore have less opportunity to accumulate runs. With the rise of franchise leagues and the increasing demands on players, it is becoming increasingly rare for a player to have a long and successful Test career.

Secondly, the demands of modern cricket are greater than ever before. With the rise of faster and more aggressive bowling, as well as the increasing competitiveness of international teams, it is becoming harder for batsmen to consistently score runs at the highest level. Injuries and burnout are also common issues for players, which can further limit their longevity in Test cricket.

Lastly, the sheer talent and skill required to reach 10,000 Test runs is immense. Smith has shown time and time again that he possesses the ability to score runs against the best bowlers in the world, but not every player has the same level of talent and determination. It takes a special kind of player to reach such a milestone, and it is unlikely that we will see another player like Smith in the near future.

In conclusion, while Steve Smith has already achieved the incredible feat of scoring 10,000 Test runs, it is highly unlikely that we will see another player reach this milestone in the near future. The demands of modern cricket, the talent required, and the shifting priorities of players all point towards Smith being the last of his kind.

  • Virat Kohli Embarrasses On Ranji Trophy Return, Clean Bowled For 6 Runs. Watch

Virat Kohli was bowled for 6 runs© X (Twitter)

Amid the mayhem at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the Delhi vs Railways Ranji Trophy, Virat Kohli produced another disappointing show in red-ball cricket. Right after hitting his first boundary of the innings against Railways on Day 2 of the group match, Kohli failed to read an inswinging delivery from Himanshu Sangwan and the ball ended up sending his off-stump cartwheeling. Kohli looked to have gained confidence as he smashed an aggressive straight drive for a four down the ground. But, the next delivery made the entire stadium silent.

The crowd, that was buzzing for every single delivery Virat faced, couldn’t murmur a single word as the India stalwart departed after scoring just 6 runs off 15 balls. Here’s the video:

Sangwan’s celebration of Virat’s wicket also confirmed how important the dismissal was for the Railways bowler.

Ahead of the start of the match on Day 2, the anticipation in the stadium was palpable, with fans eagerly waiting for a Delhi wicket to fall–just so they could watch their hero walk out to bat.

The Delhi stadium was buzzing and filled with excitement on Day 1, a sight not common for domestic cricket matches, with fans awaiting action from their hero whose recent performances have been mostly disappointing. Some additional gates were opened to accommodate fans and additional security deployed.

As per reports, over 15,000 fans attended the match on the opening day.

The Group D clash also saw a fan breaching security as he rushed onto the field to meet Virat Kohli. With Delhi’s opening bowlers, Navdeep Saini and Siddhant Sharma, having Railways in trouble at 21/3, the person managed to evade security and reach Kohli and touched his feet.

Security personnel quickly intervened and escorted the intruder off the field. Kohli requested them to go easy on the fan and avoid any harsh treatment.

  • Delhi vs Railways, Ranji Trophy Live Score: Fan runs in to touch Kohli’s feet

Delhi vs Railways, Ranji Trophy Live Score: The presence of Virat Kohli has significantly enhanced the stature of this Ranji Trophy fixture while providing a much-needed boost to Delhi’s team morale as they aim to conclude their underwhelming season positively in their final group D encounter against Railways.

Railways, with 17 points from six matches, maintain a realistic chance of advancing to the knockout phase if they secure a victory with bonus points against Delhi, which would elevate their total to 24.

Delhi’s campaign, yielding 14 points from six matches, remains theoretically alive, although the anticipated crowd of 10,000 spectators appears more interested in the spectacle than the outcome.

In the qualification race, Tamil Nadu (25 points from six matches), Chandigarh (19 from six matches), and Saurashtra (18 from six matches) hold more advantageous positions compared to both Delhi and Railways.

If Delhi fields first, attendance will likely remain under 3000, but should Delhi bat first, spectators would rather see Sanat Sangwan or Arpit Rana dismissed swiftly to witness Kohli at the crease.

The anticipation surrounding Kohli’s return has been so significant that the Arun Jaitley Stadium has attracted broadcasters preparing for the live stream, marking the celebrated batsman’s first Ranji appearance after a gap of 12 years and three months.

Delhi vs Railways, Ranji Trophy Live Score: Fan runs in to touch Kohli’s feet

In a bizarre turn of events during the Delhi vs Railways Ranji Trophy match, a fan managed to break past security and run onto the field to touch Delhi captain Virat Kohli’s feet. The incident happened during a break in play and caused a momentary disruption before the fan was escorted off the field by security personnel.

Despite the unexpected interruption, the match resumed without any further incidents. Delhi and Railways continued to battle it out on the field, with both teams vying for a crucial victory in the prestigious domestic tournament.

The incident highlights the passionate and sometimes overzealous nature of cricket fans in India, especially when it comes to their favorite players like Virat Kohli. While the fan’s actions were clearly inappropriate, it also underscores the immense popularity and adulation that players like Kohli command in the country.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Delhi vs Railways Ranji Trophy match and follow along for live scores and commentary as the action unfolds.

  • GE Aerospace T901 Engine Powers Black Hawk for First Time in Successful Ground Runs

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., – January 29, 2025 – GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) announced today the successful completion of initial ground runs for the T901 engine on a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter at Sikorsky’s West Palm Beach facility. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the Improved Turbine Engine Program’s Black Hawk testing.

“These tests mark a pivotal moment in history as the T901 engine powers the Black Hawk for the first time,” said Amy Gowder, president and CEO, Defense & Systems at GE Aerospace. “This achievement paves the way for a more powerful and mission-ready Black Hawk, equipping the U.S. Army with the ability to meet the growing demands of future operations.”

The ground runs validated the initial performance of all critical systems — including fuel, electrical, hydraulic, engine and flight control systems, and engine bay flow. Additionally, the tests acquired data from the comprehensive aircraft and engine instrumentation that will be used throughout the flight test program.

Factory testing continues in parallel with this integration effort. The data gathered during these tests continues to validate that the T901 engine is on track to meet the U.S. Army’s rigorous performance requirements.

“The successful ground runs of the T901 engine on the Black Hawk represent another critical milestone in our partnership with the U.S. Army,” said Tom Champion, GE Aerospace’s T901 program director. “This latest accomplishment not only validates the T901 engine’s unmatched performance but also reflect the unwavering effort of our team and strength of our partnership with both the U.S. Army and Sikorsky.”

The T901 engine builds on GE Aerospace’s unparalleled legacy of powering Black Hawk and Apache helicopters with the combat-proven T700 engine, which has logged more than 100 million flight hours over the past four decades. Developed in response to the Army’s call for increased power and reduced fuel consumption, the T901 delivers 50 percent more power, improved fuel efficiency, and reduced life cycle costs thanks to its simpler design and fewer parts. This efficiency translates to increased range, longer loiter time, and reduced maintenance and sustainment costs for the Army’s enduring fleet.

Read the full (automated) interview below:

Todd Piro: His name is Glenn Thomas Jacobs. A pretty, pretty American name, right? Well, you may know by a different name. If you are one of my fraternity brothers from the late 90s, early 2000s, they are Dartmouth College, New Hampshire. You know him as WWE Hall of Famer Kane. He’s also the mayor of Knox County. Since the year 2018. Mr. Jacobs Excuse me. Mayor Jacobs, great to have you on The Guy Benson Show. How are you, sir?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): I’m doing great. Thanks for having me, Todd.

Todd Piro: You’re seven feet tall, is that correct?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Well, I’m actually about six eight in wrestling boots. I was a little taller, but I’m pretty tall, dude.

Todd Piro: There you go. Nonetheless. Yeah. Six, eight, seven. I mean, we’re. We’re picking nits here. But, you know, I’ve seen you a lot on the channel recently. Haven’t had an opportunity to interview you on my program on the TV, so we’ll do it here on radio. And you have an absolutely fascinating story because, again, I’m not going to sit here and be a poser and say I’m a big WWF, WWE guy, although I do live right down the street from the headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. But but I did, you know, grow up at a time, especially in my fraternity days, where my brothers used to gather around the TV. I mean, these are Ivy League educated cats, right? And they would sit there and they would watch you. They would watch Stone cold. They would watch all these guys and get into it. It shaped a generation. And now you’re trying to shape a generation as a politician. So how did you make that transition?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): First, you went to Dartmouth, right? Yes, sir, I heard. Yeah. Yeah. My niece actually went to Dartmouth for medical school. She’s not orthopedic surgeon, so she’s really smart. I like to say it’s a good it’s a good school. But yes, for me, the reason I got to politics, it wasn’t like a particular issue or anything like that. I had a fantastic life, great product, The American Dream. I grew up on a small farm in Missouri. My family is great. My mom and dad are hardworking folks, but we didn’t have a whole lot. We weren’t poor. And of course, that’s something to eat and a roof over our head. But nevertheless, that was about it. And from there, I mean, I was able to find something I was good at. Professional wrestling, of all things. Travel the world or fame. People provide a life for my family that I wouldn’t have thought possible. And I think that story is only possible in America. And all too often we take that for granted. I mean, I’ve traveled the world. I’ve seen other places. To me, this is far and above a superior place to live. You know, it’s the legacy in our country of, you know, just freedom and justice for all. That’s a real thing for us. Right. And I just wanted to do what I could to ensure that that go on for my grandkids and my kids. Like President Reagan said, the freedoms never more than a generation away from extinction. And I think that more people and a lot of people are standing up for more people need to stand up and ensure that we’re not the generation allows that to happen.

Todd Piro: You mentioned Reagan. We’re in the era of Trump, and I’m looking at your story. All individuals who didn’t start out as politicians, they came from something else. And in many respects, all three of you came from the entertainment business to varying degrees. But the focus really isn’t on entertainment. It is bringing something else to the table other than the, let’s call it institutional knowledge or institutional bureaucracy of government. Why do you think that has made you successful? Why do you think it made Reagan successful and why do you think it makes Trump successful?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Well, it is that different perspective and you can absolutely see it in this Trump administration. These first five days have been truly remarkable. They’ve almost been transformational for our country, and it’s been done in a very businesslike way. I mean, I think this time Trump learned from his first term while he was being literally persecuted as a private citizen. I learned from that. And he and his team came in with a game plan this time. And they often hear about presidents in the first hundred days and how important it is and all that stuff. Well, they take it to heart. And I mean, they have just done things that, you know, you wouldn’t have never thought possible before. But it was all strategy and all planning, which is something that you learn in business.

Todd Piro: You mentioned kids and grandkids. Do you think that years from now when history books are written that literally this week will be written about in history books where probably not my kids, my kids are young, but I think, you know, the books are already written. Do you think their kids, my grandkids will read about this week? January of 2025 as the day that America changed.

    Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): For.

Todd Piro: The weak and changed.

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Man it should be. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. I just, you know, everything from tackling the border and immigration crisis to strengthening American sovereignty, to righting injustices, all these different things that have been done in a way. And it just keeps on getting better. I mean, transparency. You know, how many years have people been begging for the JFK files to be declassified? And it doesn’t happen for decades. And then in the Trump administration, second Trump ministration three days and bam, there it is. And, you know, people think, well, that’s no big deal. It’s a huge deal. You know, it’s a huge deal because government classifies so many documents and, you know, so many of them shouldn’t be classified. It causes a lack of transparency. And that’s been addressed. And right now, it’s kind of a symbolic way. But I think going forward, it it’ll be even more more in that vein. So absolutely, I think. Yeah, it’s going to change the country and I really think that it’s going to get the country back on the right track. When so many of us were very concerned that we were about to go off the rails.

Todd Piro: We’ve addressed the policy of this week, but you are also there attended Trump’s inauguration in D.C.. You know, human to human. What was that like?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Yeah. There was so much excitement. So many people that had supported the president in many cases from the beginning. And, you know, part of the reason I think that the elitist left hates Trump so badly is because, you know, I consider myself I’m just an average person, man. You know, I was fortunate enough and very blessed to have a great career and do some really cool stuff. But in the end, you know, I’m just a dude. I’m just a guy. And that’s what Trump is, you know? And I think that’s part of the reason that the elites just despise him is because when they look at him, they see us, they see flyover country. You know, he’s not one of those like, rich dudes that that puts on airs or anything like that. You know, he’s just himself. And that gives him, you know, in wrestling and in politics the ability to connect with people. It’s intangible and you can’t teach it, but it’s one of the most important things. In fact, I would argue it is the most important thing for success in both areas. And it’s just something that some folks have and some folks don’t. Trump’s got it and he’s got it in spades. And again, I think that’s why, you know, people keep higher ups in the in the Democrat Party have been trying to figure that out. And they can’t and they never will. But that’s why people understand what that’s why they loved him so much.

Todd Piro: I think you touched upon something really, really interesting. And it’s a general topic that we address a lot, this elites versus non elites. And I think we look at and say, elites look down upon, not elites. But I think you looked at it from a different perspective and that’s important. Elitist, almost celebrate the fact that they’re not regular dudes. And that does two things. It’s almost like a self-fulfilling prophecy. They can never let themselves be around or be comfortable with that concept of just being a dude. And they have to continuously sort of always one up or two up or three up you whether it’s in terms of of knowledge policy or just their approach to the world and what Donald Trump does. We mentioned it earlier in the show, Common sense. It’s all about common sense. Don’t overthink things. You know, there are criminals that are illegally in our country. So what does Trump do? Gets rid of this. We have oil underneath our feet. So what does Trump do? Drills for it. And these are just two examples, but it drives the elites crazy that regular people are succeeding and regular people are voting for this because it almost shatters their view of the world, which I don’t know. I’m not an elite. Glenn, I don’t understand your thoughts.

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Yeah, Yeah. Well, whatever percent agree, I’m not an elite either. But I think a lot of it is just that. Wanting to run everybody’s lives and believing that you are smarter in that kind of paternalistic attitude that you know better and, you know, you’re literally have been put in a position, you know, anointed by God to tell everybody else what to do. And, you know, my my political political philosophy is basically to maximize individual freedom. The people know how to run their lives better than some bureaucrat in Washington, D.C. does. Right. When it comes to the education of our kids, you know, they know better how to what their kids need than some faceless drone at the Department of Education in Washington, D.C.. And, you know, a lot of this obviously goes I think goes back to the progressive era. You know, and experts and technocrats should be running everything that’s not that’s not America. That’s completely un-American. And if nothing else, what has happened this week with with Trump and everything he’s done so far is really a lot of that. And that attitude has been overturned. You know, obviously, you know, sometimes it feels like we’re in a movie and these folks are just going to sit back on the heels of it all happen. At some point, they’ll come back out swinging. But, man, it feels good right now that I mean, seriously, we all keep on saying it, but it feels like America is back in a big way.

Todd Piro: Let’s switch before we let you go from America to specifically the great state of Tennessee. Senator Marsha Blackburn appears to be the clear frontrunner for Tennessee governor, That according to a Trump pollster. You’re the state mayor of Knox County there, which is where Knoxville is located. If my Wikipedia search, I just did while doing the radio hit with you is correct. You agree with that? Is Blackburn. Is this Blackburn’s gubernatorial seat if she wants it?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Yes. If Senator Blackburn wants to run for governor, I’ll certainly support for and I think that she would be definitely considered the front runner right now. And she’s done great. And she was in the state Senate then with the Congress and obviously is now a U.S. senator, but has done very well at all those levels, represents Tennessee and the people of Tennessee and Tennessee values very well. So I think she’d make a great governor.

Todd Piro: How long are the terms there?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Four years. And why? Said the term limited, say up to four year terms.

Todd Piro: Okay. So follow me where I’m going here. If memory serves, there have been other WWF, WWE individuals who’ve gone on to the governor’s mansion in their respective state. Is that on the table for Cain? And eight plus years?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Yeah. You know, I’m not exactly sure. I have two years left as mayor. A little less than that, actually. And I’m term limited as well. You know, for me, it’s not looking at what political office I want to run for next. It’s really just about trying to make a positive difference for the people that I love. And hopefully that radiates out to everybody else as well. So I’m not exactly sure, you know, and I’m not worried about it either. I mean, for whatever reason, you know, God always seems to put me in different places that, you know, that I feel rewarded and I feel that I belong. And I’m sure that’s what’s going to happen in the future. So, you know, it’s one of those things whatever comes, comes, and I’m going to be okay with that.

Todd Piro: Got it. You are listening to Glenn Thomas Jacobs. He’s the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, since 2018 and came to all those boys that I hung out with when I was in the fraternity watching WWE. This is awesome. Thank you so much for making the time curious and excited to see what the next step in your career is. But I think we’re all excited to see what Donald Trump does in the next four years. Appreciate your time. Have a great weekend.

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Thanks to you, too. I appreciate it.

Knoxville Mayor and WWE Hall-of-Famer Glenn Jacobs recently expressed his support for Senator Marsha Blackburn potentially running for Tennessee Governor in the upcoming election. In a statement, Jacobs said, “I would certainly support Senator Blackburn if she decides to run for Governor. She has been a strong advocate for our state and I believe she would make a great leader for Tennessee.”

Jacobs, who is known for his conservative views, has been a vocal supporter of Blackburn in the past and has praised her work in the Senate. If Blackburn does decide to run for Governor, she would likely have strong support from the conservative base in Tennessee, including Jacobs.

Blackburn has not yet announced her intentions to run for Governor, but speculation has been swirling in political circles. If she does decide to throw her hat in the ring, it seems she would have the backing of influential figures like Glenn Jacobs.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • W&M Men’s Basketball Runs Win Streak to Six with Road Triumph at Hampton

    (Tribe Athletics)

HAMPTON — Senior Matteus Case scored six-straight points in the closing 1:07 to lift William & Mary to a 67-64 CAA road win at Hampton on Thursday night.

The Tribe (11-7, 5-0 CAA) led by as much as nine points in the second half, but trailed 62-60 with 1:31 remaining following a George Beale Jr. jumper. Cue Case who converted back-to-back old-fashion 3-point plays to propel the Green and Gold to its sixth-straight victory.

The 6-4 guard hit a floater in the lane with 1:07 left and was hit on the arm. After he completed the 3-point play to give W&M a one-point lead, the Green and Gold generated a turnover near midcourt. The ball ended up in the hands of Keller Boothby who found a cutting Case. The Pickering, Ontario native made the twisting lay-up and was fouled. His second 3-point play in 15 seconds extended the Tribe lead to 66-62 with 52 second left.

The Pirates (9-9, 2-4 CAA) had a chance to tie in the closing seconds, but Trevor Smith’s corner 3-point attempt at the horn was long, and the Tribe celebrated just the program’s fourth 5-0 CAA start.

Case led all scorers with 18 points off the bench. He was a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor, including 6-of-7 from the free throw line. After missing the last seven games due to injury, junior Kyle Pulliam returned in the lineup with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3, in 12 minutes off the bench. Senior Caleb Dorsey rounded out the double-digit scorers with a nice 10-point, five-rebound, and four-assist stat line.

As a team, W&M finished the game shooting 51.2% (22-of-43) from the floor, including a sizzling 75% (12-of-16) in the second half. The Tribe connected on 15-of-20 (75%) at the free throw line and was 8-of-20 (40%) from 3-point range.

Defensively, the Tribe limited Hampton to 37.5% (21-of-56) shooting, including just 6-of-23 (26.1%) from 3. The Pirates held a 32-29 advantage the glass, including 13 offensive rebounds. Hampton forced W&M into 16 turnovers, converting those into 18 points.

Hampton scored the game’s opening nine points. Beale Jr. scored four during the stretch, and a pair of Richard Goods free throws at the 16:35 mark gave the Pirates a 9-0 cushion.

The Pirates started 3-of-5 from the floor, but W&M turned up the defense, holding the Pirates to just 4-of-22 over the final 17 minutes of the first half.

W&M used a 17-2 run to take its first lead. An eight-point spurt, capped by a Pulliam 3-pointer, drew the Tribe within 18-17 at the 5:09 mark.

After a Xzavier Long lay-up briefly put the home side back on top by three, the Tribe connected on three-straight 3-pointers to open up a six-point advantage. Boothby tied the game at 20, before a Malachi Ndur left wing 3-pointer gave W&M a three-point lead at forced a Hampton timeout with 3:41 left in the half. Pulliam canned his second triple of the opening 20 minutes to stretch the margin to 26-20 just 27 seconds later.

W&M’s lead reached it largest at nine, 34-25, just over four minutes into the second half on an Isaiah Mbeng 3-pointer.

Hampton used a 5-0 run to close back within 34-30 on a Daniel Johnson jumper. The Tribe lead though jumped back to nine, 44-35, on a fastbreak and-1 from Case at the 12:31 mark.

The Pirates finally pulled even behind a 7-0 run sparked by Noah Farrakhan. He knocked down a 3-pointer, before his driving finger roll at the 4:45 mark tied the contest at 54.

Farrakhan, who led the Pirates with 15 points, gave the home team its first lead of the second half, 59-58, on another triple with 2:37 to play.

Smith added 12 points off the bench for Hampton, while Beale had 11. Long just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Mbeng tallied seven points and a game-high five assists, while Ndur notched seven points on 3-of-4 shooting, including a 3-pointer.

However, the team’s strong defense and efficient offense proved to be the difference maker in this game. • Kyle Hamilton, Marcus Freeman and representation in their postseason runs — Andscape

The paths of Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton and Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman only crossed for one season in South Bend, Indiana, yet they both find themselves in a unique position this postseason.

A small percentage of the football population identifies as both Black and Asian American. In 2023, the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport reported that 0.1% percent of players in the NFL were Asian. The NCAA reported in 2024, that 1% of Division I head coaches across all sports were Asian.

Hamilton, whose Ravens play the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round on Sunday, and Freeman, whose Fighting Irish face Ohio State in the College Football Playoff national championship on Monday, are both representing their Black and Korean heritage proudly in their respective playoff runs.

“I think one, the success of anybody, any minority in a position of power is cool to see, especially at an institution like Notre Dame,” said Hamilton, who played at Notre Dame from 2019 to 2021. Freeman was defensive coordinator in South Bend during Hamilton’s junior year. “You know, it’s a predominantly white catholic school and to have a Black Korean head coach leading the team to the championship, it’s pretty cool when you step back and look at it.”

Freeman and Hamilton are two men doing what they love all while proving to the next generation of Black and Asian athletes that it’s possible. Freeman will make history as the first Black and Asian head coach to make it to the Football Bowl Subdivision national championship.

“If me being a Black and Asian head coach in the college football national championship gives others that opportunity, then that’s awesome,” Freeman said in a news conference Jan. 12. “I’ve always said this: I don’t want this to be about me. I want this to be about others, and others getting opportunities and our team.”

In September 2024, ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes and Hamilton connected on her podcast over their shared Korean heritage. They talked about growing up with Korean moms, Asian presence in the NFL and even had Freeman join as a guest.

“There was a moment where I think all of the Koreans kind of figured it out and were sort of rooting for Notre Dame, because you know how Koreans are, we figure out someone is Korean and we are in the tank for them, forever.” Kimes said on her show to both Hamilton and Freeman.

Said Freeman on the show: “You don’t meet just half-Korean, or Korean people every day. I remember when I got a chance to figure out Kyle’s background, you know now we have a common place, and understanding and I said, ‘we are both Blasians now,’ [I] was able to see pictures of his mom and showed him pictures of my mom and those are things that truly help you form a relationship.”

Kimes asked Freeman at what moment he realized Hamilton was “him.” His response? An unforgettable interception at Florida State. As Freeman is set to make history on Monday, Andscape asked Hamilton the inverse: Was there a specific moment he realized Freeman was a championship-level coach?

“I think from just Day 1 he kind of brought in a different energy and a standard when it came to defense, because he was only my defensive coordinator when I was there,” Hamilton said. “He created a bunch of things that we could latch onto throughout the year no matter what we’re struggling with, whether it be a saying or a quote. We would come in and out just put our heads down and work and he was working right with us and everybody on staff. I was just appreciative of that and that consistency.”

After his junior season at Notre Dame, Hamilton entered the 2022 NFL draft and was selected in the first round (No. 14 overall) by the Ravens. His first three seasons in the league have been a compilation of league and conference honors including PFWA All-Rookie Team honors in 2022, two Pro Bowl selections and a 2024 AP All-Pro selection.

But he left the Ravens practice facility on Wednesday sporting a navy backpack with the Notre Dame leprechaun.

“…Just being [and feeling] prideful for my school, they made it to the championship,” Hamilton said. “I think they still have some work to do still; you know we’re not just satisfied going there, we need to win the game. Hopefully we get that done.”

Hamilton has used his platform to rep his Korean heritage, including adding a Korean flag sticker on the back of his helmet last season as a part of the NFL’s heritage initiative

“My mother is actually South Korean and was born there. [She] came to the states when she was about 13. Growing up, we were immersed in the culture, my brother and I,” Hamilton shared in a video on baltimoreravens.com.

Freeman and Hamilton are a tale of a coach and player striving to excel, all while being examples of positive representation. Hamilton has spoken openly about the responsibility and opportunity to represent his heritage proudly.

“It’s not something that I am always thinking about, but it’s something that I am always conscious of,” Hamilton said. “I know that, you know, many people may see me and see somebody that they can identify with in a lot of different cultures. It’s pretty cool to have that. Knowing that people of all ages, all races, can look to me and see somebody that they can aspire to be and it’s just a blessing to be in this position.”

Cayla Sweazie is a women’s and college sports reporter. She is a former HBCU athlete (Go Bears) with a passion for giving student-athletes a platform to share their stories.

As Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Freeman gear up for their respective postseason runs, their presence on the big stage is not only a testament to their talent and hard work, but also to the importance of representation in college football.

Hamilton, a standout safety for the Fighting Irish, has been a force to be reckoned with all season long. His versatility, athleticism, and football IQ have made him one of the most dynamic players in the country. As Notre Dame looks to make a statement in the upcoming College Football Playoff, Hamilton will undoubtedly be a key player to watch.

On the coaching side, Marcus Freeman has made waves in his first season as Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator. His innovative schemes and ability to connect with players have been instrumental in the team’s success. With his leadership, the Fighting Irish defense has been among the best in the nation, setting the stage for a strong postseason run.

But beyond their individual accomplishments, Hamilton and Freeman’s presence in the postseason spotlight is a reminder of the importance of representation in college football. As Black men in a predominantly white sport, they serve as role models for young athletes who may not always see themselves reflected in the game.

Their success challenges stereotypes and opens doors for future generations of players and coaches. It’s a reminder that diversity and inclusion are not just buzzwords, but essential components of a thriving and equitable sports landscape.

So as we cheer on Kyle Hamilton, Marcus Freeman, and the rest of the Fighting Irish in their postseason pursuits, let’s also celebrate the power of representation and the impact it can have on the world of college football. #GoIrish #RepresentationMatters.
