  • Bruins-Rangers Brings Back Childhood Memories For Joe Sacco

BOSTON — Joe Sacco has a unique view of the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers’ rivalry.

Sacco has been watching the two clubs face one another for upwards of six decades, always rooting for the guys in Black and Gold — which is about what you would expect from someone who grew up in Medford, Mass.

It’ll be a bit different on Saturday, though.

The B’s named the 55-year-old interim head coach on Nov. 19, with Saturday’s matinee matchup presenting his first opportunity to experience the rivalry in his new role at home.

“The Bruins and Rangers games were always — there was always something more special,” Sacco said on Saturday. “It’s almost like there was more feel to it. Everybody always talks about the game at Madison Square Garden, with the shoe and all of that. I do remember that vividly. I remember coming to the old Boston Garden as a kid and catching all of the Original Six games — the Rangers being one of (the opponents). The energy in the building was always fantastic.”

Sacco expects more of the same Saturday, calling on his home fans to bring energy to a pair of teams in transition.

“I expect the same thing here today,” Sacco said. “I expect good energy. I hope our players can feed off of that, as well.

The Bruins and Rangers will drop the puck from TD Garden at 3:50 p.m. ET, with full coverage coming on ABC.

One of the most memorable games for Joe was when the Bruins faced off against the New York Rangers. The fierce rivalry between the two teams always made for an exciting matchup, and Joe loved every minute of it.

As he got older, Joe’s passion for hockey only grew stronger. He worked tirelessly to hone his skills, eventually earning a spot on the Bruins roster. Playing in the same jersey he had idolized as a child was a dream come true for Joe.

Now, as an assistant coach for the Bruins, Joe still gets chills every time he sees his team take on the Rangers. The nostalgia of those childhood memories floods back as he watches the game unfold, and he can’t help but smile at how far he’s come.

  • Joe Sacco Provides New Injury Update On Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman

The Bruins might not be without Jeremy Swayman for too long.

Swayman missed Thursday’s win over the Ottawa Senators due to an upper-body injury. Interim head coach Joe Sacco told reporters at TD Garden that the team would monitor Swayman’s status but the injury was not considered serious.

The star netminder was at Warrior Ice Arena on Friday and participated in morning skate. Sacco told reporters the 26-year-old “should be an option” for the Black and Gold’s Saturday matinee matchup against the Colorado Avalanche at TD Garden.

A sign that Swayman could be active is that the Bruins assigned forward Patrick Brown and goaltender Michael DiPietro to Providence. Joonas Korpisalo would earn a second consecutive start if Swayman is unable to play.

Puck drop for Bruins-Avalanche is scheduled at 1 p.m. ET, and you can catch full coverage on NESN after an hour of pregame.

Boston Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman has been sidelined with an injury, but good news has emerged as Joe Sacco, the team’s assistant coach, provided a new injury update on the young netminder.

Sacco revealed that Swayman is progressing well in his recovery and is on track to return to the ice soon. The team is taking a cautious approach with his rehabilitation to ensure he is fully healed before making a comeback.

“We’re pleased with Jeremy’s progress so far and are optimistic about his return to action,” Sacco stated. “He’s been working hard in rehab and we’re confident that he’ll be back to his best in no time.”

Swayman has been a standout performer for the Bruins this season, posting impressive numbers in his rookie year. His absence has been felt by the team, but with his imminent return, fans can look forward to seeing him back between the pipes in the near future.

Stay tuned for more updates on Jeremy Swayman’s recovery and return to the Bruins lineup.

  • Joe Sacco Provides Injury Update On Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman

The injuries for the Boston Bruins keep piling up, and the latest is between the pipes.

Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco told reporters before Boston’s game against the Ottawa Senators that Jeremy Swayman is “dealing with a little bit of an upper-body issue.

“Minor,” Sacco explained, as seen on NESN’s pregame coverage. “He came out after the second period (in Wednesday’s game). So, with the quick turnaround here, obviously (Wednesday and Thursday night), we’re gonna hold him out here tonight, and we’ll just monitor day by day.”

Sacco said Swayman had not been dealing with it prior to Boston’s loss to the New Jersey Devils, but it came up during the game. Sacco added he is “cautiously optimistic” Swayman will be available for Saturday’s matinee matchup with the Colorado Avalanche.

With Swayman unavailable, Sacco confirmed Joonas Korpisalo would get the start in net against his former team. The Bruins recalled standout goalie prospect Michael DiPietro from Providence before the game to serve as the backup.

“He’s been playing well,” Sacco said of DiPietro. “He’s had a good year. It’s an opportunity for him to come up, but we have full faith in Korpi here tonight.”

Sacco confirmed Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, Mark Kastelic and Cole Koepke all remain out of the lineup, but Trent Frederic will return after missing the last two games with an illness.

The Bruins have lost their first two games against the Senators this season. On Saturday, they suffered a disappointing shootout loss to Ottawa after surrendering the tying goal with just 12 seconds remaining in regulation.

Boston Bruins head coach Joe Sacco recently provided an injury update on rookie goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who suffered a lower-body injury during a recent game. Sacco stated that Swayman is day-to-day and will be re-evaluated after undergoing further medical tests.

Swayman, who has been an integral part of the Bruins’ success this season, has quickly made a name for himself in the NHL with his impressive play between the pipes. The 23-year-old netminder has posted a 10-7-2 record with a 2.29 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in 20 games played.

While Swayman’s injury is certainly concerning for the Bruins, Sacco remains optimistic about his goaltender’s recovery and is hopeful that he will be back on the ice in no time. In the meantime, the Bruins will rely on veteran goaltender Linus Ullmark to shoulder the workload in Swayman’s absence.

Fans of the Bruins will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on Swayman’s progress and hoping for a speedy recovery for the promising young goaltender. Stay tuned for more updates on Swayman’s condition as they become available.

  • Bruins’ Joe Sacco Offers Vague Answer Why Brad Marchand Didn’t Play In OT

The Boston Bruins lost the lead in the final seconds of regulation. Then, they lost the game in a shootout and their playoff position to the Ottawa Senators.

Curiously, Bruins captain Brad Marchand never saw the ice during overtime or the shootout. Interim head coach Joe Sacco told reporters in Ottawa that Marchand wasn’t hurt; it was a coach’s decision to have the team’s second-leading scorer not log any shifts in the extra session.

Marchand had just one shot on goal and two giveaways across 19:20 of ice time in the Bruins’ loss. He looked fatigued down the stretch. In the final moments of the third period, Marchand didn’t play his normal pest-like game as the Bruins tried to contain the Senators, who were desperately seeking an equalizer.

With its goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, Ottawa scored two goals in the final 3:01 of regulation to knot the game 5-5.

“We didn’t execute well enough under pressure when they had six on five,” Sacco said, per team-provided video. “We had an opportunity below the goal line there, on the fourth goal, I think it was, and we weren’t able to get it out. We had a breakdown in our coverage in the slot.

“We had an opportunity to make it 6-3, and we didn’t put it in the back of the net on the other end, so we just have to be better at defending that lead at six-on-five. I don’t know really what else to say. I mean, we can’t give up slot chances like that. I give them credit. They were hungry, but we have to do a better job. We have to make sure that we get the puck out of our zone.”

In a common theme over the last three games, the Bruins were outshot 44-28 in the contest. Jeremy Swayman made 39 saves, including three big stops in overtime.

“He gave us a chance to win again,” Sacco said. “All you can ask from your goaltender, and he did that again. We’ve got to cut down on certain scoring opportunities to help him out.”

The Bruins and Senators will meet for the third time this season on Thursday night in Boston. Ottawa bested Boston in overtime on Nov. 9 at TD Garden.

The Boston Bruins’ assistant coach, Joe Sacco, offered a vague answer when asked why star forward Brad Marchand did not play in overtime in a recent game. Marchand, known for his scoring ability and clutch performances, was noticeably absent during the crucial extra period.

Sacco simply stated that it was a “coaching decision” and did not provide any further explanation as to why Marchand was kept off the ice during overtime. This decision raised eyebrows among fans and analysts, as Marchand is often relied upon in high-pressure situations.

Some speculated that Marchand may have been dealing with an injury or disciplinary issue, while others questioned the coaching staff’s reasoning for benching one of the team’s top players when the game was on the line.

Whatever the reason may be, Marchand’s absence in overtime certainly had an impact on the game and left many wondering what exactly led to the decision. Bruins fans will be eagerly awaiting more clarity on this situation from the coaching staff in the days to come.
