52nd Annual Saturn Special & Tribute Awards Revealed Along With Wildfire Fundraising Efforts
The 52nd Annual Saturn Awards are right around the corner. With that in mind, The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films has revealed the initial recipients of special tribute and honorary awards at the show. This will take place on Sunday, February 2nd, at The Hilton Universal City Hotel. These include William Shatner, the cast of “Back to the Future”, and Prime Video’s “Fallout”. Along with that, they will have fundraising efforts to benefit those affected by the Los Angeles Wildfires.
THE SATURN AWARDS’ LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The Saturn Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award is reserved for those in either film and/or television for their outstanding work. To honor their illustrious careers as artists and icons and those who have helped further genre entertainment in the industry and beyond.
With that said, this year’s recipient is William Shatner, aka Captain Kirk. Shatner has hosted two of the first televised Saturn Awards in the late 70s. He has also won Best Actor for “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”. Last year he presented Robert Forster Artist’s Award to Seth MacFarlane.
THE GEORGE PAL MEMORIAL AWARD
The George Pal Memorial Award is presented to someone who has shown exemplary work in the respective film genres. This year The Saturn Awards is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the all-time classic time-travel adventure “Back to the Future”. They will be bestowing this honor on its filmmakers and stars. Representing the film will be Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson, writer & producer Bob Gale, and composer Alan Silvestri.
SATURN AWARDS’ THE SPOTLIGHT AWARD
The Spotlight Award is given to a film or series that the Academy deems worthy of special recognition and accolades. This year’s recipient will be Prime Video’s “Fallout” and its cast and creators. It will be presented by Ron Perlman. The Academy says “Fallout” has exceeded gamers’ expectations and welcomed millions of new science fiction fans into its world of post-apocalyptic adventure, retro-futuristic intrigue, and darkly comedic survival.
LOS ANGELES WILDFIRES FUNDRAISING EFFORTS
With Los Angeles County being hit by deadly, destructive wildfires, there is an urgent need for support in the community. The Academy is using this platform to celebrate achievements in genre to give viewers nationwide and attending the event information on how to donate and support the rebuilding efforts in Los Angeles. This necessary initiative is looking to raise awareness and provide vital contact information to help the city recover.

William Shatner To Receive Lifetime Achievement Saturn Award – TrekMovie.com
The Star Trek franchise has a long history with the Saturn Awards, and this year will be another special one as the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror is honoring a Star Trek icon: William Shatner.
Shatner’s Saturn Lifetime
William Shatner will be honored at the 52nd Saturn Awards ceremony on Sunday, February 2. For the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films honors “individuals in either film and/or television for their outstanding work, to honor their illustrious careers as artists and icons and those who’ve helped further genre entertainment in the industry and beyond.” This year, that person is Star Trek’s first captain, William Shatner, described by the Academy in their announcement as a “living legend.”
Shatner has a long history with the Saturn Awards. He’s been nominated several times, and won for Best Actor in 1983 for his performance as James T. Kirk in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. He also won as a guest star for the Syfy series Haven in 2016. This isn’t even Shatner’s first special Saturn award: In 1980, he was honored with a Life Career Award. Last year he was at the event to present the Robert Forster Artist’s Award to Seth MacFarlane.
The multi-talented showman hosted the televised Saturn Awards ceremony twice in the 1970s. It was at the 1978 ceremony when Shatner performed his famous rendition of the Elton John/Bernie Taupin song “Rocket Man.”
Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Discovery are also nominated for Saturn Awards this year.
This year’s ceremony will be held at the at The Hilton Universal City Hotel and livestreamed for free on both Electric Entertainment’s premium OTT app and FAST channel, ElectricNOW and The Roku Channel on Sunday, February 2nd. Over the next few weeks, a stunning parade of planets will glow across the night sky, putting on a celestial spectacle that both amateur and seasoned stargazers can easily observe.
All month, four planets — Venus, Saturn, Jupiter and Mars — will appear to line up and be bright enough to see with the naked eye in the first few hours after dark, according to NASA. Uranus and Neptune will be there, too, but will require binoculars or telescopes to spot.
“These multi-planet viewing opportunities aren’t super rare, but they don’t happen every year, so it’s worth checking it out,” NASA added.

Since the beginning of January, Venus and Saturn have been drawing closer and closer to each other. The climax will take place Friday and Saturday, when the two planets will appear within just “a couple of finger widths’ distance apart” from Earth’s perspective, NASA said. (Though in reality, there are hundreds of millions of miles between them.)
Meanwhile, Mars is at “opposition” this month. That’s when a planet and the sun are directly opposite each other with Earth in between. This celestial event happens about every two years for the red planet.
Opposition is “around the time when the planet is at its closest to Earth, making it appear at its biggest and brightest,” NASA wrote.
For those planning to spot the cosmic lineup, NASA said Venus and Saturn will be visible in the southwest during the first couple of hours after dark. At that time, Jupiter will shine high overhead while Mars will rise in the east. A simple way to distinguish a star from a planet is that planets tend to shine steadily while stars twinkle, according to NASA.
In June 2024, a planet parade featuring Saturn, the Moon, Mars and Jupiter was on display in the morning sky but only two planets could be observed with the naked eye.
