  • Magic land hometown star in new mock trade to save their offense

It’s no secret that offense is not the Magic’s strong suit. This current team, built around Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs, excels on defense but relies heavily on Banchero and Wagner to carry the offensive production despite little spacing around them. All of those troubles have been amplified by the numerous injuries that hit the Magic this season.

Banchero and Wagner have barely even played together yet, which is one reason why the Magic currently have the second-worst offensive rating in the league. The Magic have struggled especially in their most recent games, hitting the 100-point mark only once in five straight losses

Orlando has fallen to seventh place in the Eastern Conference and will have to find a way out of that hole to realize their goal of securing homecourt advantage in the playoffs. The Magic learned the hard way how important that can be last season, as the home team won every game in their seven-game series against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

There are several ways the Magic can approach this. They could simply wait to get healthy and see if having their core together once again can be enough to string together a bunch of wins and rise in the standings. Banchero and Wagner are both back on the court already, and Jalen Suggs and Goga Bitadze should hopefully return soon as well. Things are going to start looking much better, but the question is whether that is enough.

Mock trade has Magic make a move for Anfernee Simons

Another way to improve the Magic’s offense is to trade for an offensive-minded player. One mock trade recently proposed by Kevin O’Connor on The Bill Simmons Podcast has the Magic trading Cole Anthony, Jett Howard, and a first-round pick to the Portland Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons.

Simons is a player that has been connected to the Magic for quite some time. The reasoning is that Simons likely needs to move to another team to truly flourish, and the Magic need a guard who can score and space the floor. Simons is not shooting it as well from three this season as in other seasons, but 36.9 percent on 8.1 attempts per game is still solid, especially for a Magic team desperate for any kind of production from deep. Plus, Simons is still only 25, fitting the Magic’s timeline very well, and grew up in the area.

Giving up Cole Anthony and Jett Howard for a player who could help the Magic take the next steps offensively is not a crazy price either. Anthony has been rather inconsistent this season, and Howard is still not a regular part of the Magic’s rotation.

On paper, Simons seems like a good fit in Orlando, and the fake trade is reasonable. The question is just whether the Magic would even consider making such a significant move ahead of the trade deadline. For one, the Magic are not known for their activity on the trade market unless absolutely necessary. Secondly, they have barely even gotten a chance to see Wagner and Banchero play together yet this season. In Banchero’s absence, Wagner played at an All-Star level. The Magic would likely prefer to see if he can do the same while the rest of the team is healthy before making any significant changes to the roster.

If the Magic make a move before the trade deadline, it will likely be for a role player who can space the floor rather than someone who would change the way they play. They need better 3-point shooting but do not necessarily have to go after someone like Simons, who would need a lot of touches, quite yet. A move like that probably makes more sense in the offseason.

In a stunning turn of events, Magic Land Hometown Star has been involved in a new mock trade that could potentially save their struggling offense. With rumors swirling about the team’s lackluster performance on the field, fans are eagerly anticipating this potential shake-up.

The trade, which has not been officially confirmed by the team, would send Hometown Star to a rival team in exchange for a proven offensive player. This move could provide the much-needed spark that Magic Land’s offense has been missing, and fans are hopeful that it will lead to a turnaround in their performance.

While it’s always tough to see a beloved player leave, sometimes drastic measures are necessary to shake things up and get a team back on track. The potential trade has certainly generated a lot of buzz among fans and analysts, who are eagerly awaiting any official announcement from the team.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as we wait to see if Magic Land Hometown Star will indeed be traded in a bold move to save their offense.

  • Richarlison revival, Van de Ven return, belief. How Spurs can save Ange

On the platform at Frankfurt station on Wednesday, a Tottenham Hotspur fan en route to Hoffenheim had just declared Jürgen Klinsmann to be her preferred successor to Ange Postecoglou when Klinsmann, to the group’s delight, suddenly appeared upstairs, walking across the concourse, presumably also on his way to the game.

If only Postecoglou could work his magic so swiftly, to propel Tottenham up the Premier League table, win a cup, or even just heal one or two of his 11 injured players in time to face Leicester City today at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. When Spurs drew away to Leicester on the opening day of the season, Postecoglou’s side entertained realistic ambitions of finishing in the top four. At 2pm on Sunday, the aim is to strengthen the buffer between themselves and the bottom three.

Postecoglou was back to his bullish best late on Thursday after the 3-2 win over Hoffenheim, insisting his team were “on the right road”, that the players’ “belief” was all that matters and that his long and layered career had taught him the key in a crisis is to block out “the noise” and “not get influenced by the current mood”. After his downbeat and occasionally surly responses in recent weeks, it felt like something of a return to form for Postecoglou, buoyed by victory and up for the fight.

Spurs are certainly not out of the woods yet, though, and any optimistic fans heartened by a gutsy win over struggling Hoffenheim in the Europa League should be wary, despite Leicester losing their past seven consecutive Premier League games under Ruud van Nistelrooy. After all of Tottenham’s biggest wins this season — against Everton (3-0), Manchester United (3-0), West Ham (4-1), Aston Villa (4-1), Manchester City (4-0), Southampton (5-0) and even Liverpool in the Carabao Cup (1-0) — they failed to win their next match in the league. At full-time in Germany on Thursday night, three or four players looked dead on their feet.

Yet there remains a narrow path for Postecoglou, a way to save this turbulent season and perhaps even his job. He is nearly two years into a four-year contract at Spurs and there is a belief at the club that he can still turn results around, as well as an awareness of the impact of the list of absentees. Interim appointments made things worse after Antonio Conte and José Mourinho while there could also be a middle way, where Postecoglou completes the season but another coach, with similar principles, takes the project on to its second phase.

What is clear is that Postecoglou’s tenure will be defined by the next few weeks, when he needs to get big decisions right and several elements to work in his favour.

    Wrap defence in cotton wool

Only Brighton & Hove Albion’s players have missed more days through injury this season than Tottenham’s and while fatigue has affected all areas of the team, the defence has been hit hardest.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are crucial to the way Spurs play, with their ability to adopt the aggressive, high line and make quick recovery runs, so losing both in November, just after each had returned from injury, has been central to Tottenham’s downfall.

The hope is Romero and Van de Ven will resume full training this week, which could put them in contention for Brentford away next weekend and then Liverpool in the second leg of the Carabao Cup four days later. Romero’s leadership would be invaluable at Anfield, as would Van de Ven’s pace against Mohamed Salah, but it will be a delicate decision to make. Postecoglou has to avoid rushing them back before they are ready because Spurs cannot afford to lose them again.

    Fire up Richarlison

With Dominic Solanke out for six weeks, and therefore missing both cup games against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and Aston Villa in the FA Cup, the return to fitness of Richarlison is timely, although Solanke, who injured his knee in training last weekend, may not have broken down if cover had arrived sooner.

Tottenham were open to selling Richarlison last summer but Postecoglou has to find a way to unearth the Brazilian’s best version now, the player they signed for £60million from Everton in 2022 and the one who scored nine goals in ten games during a golden spell under Postecoglou this time last year.

Tottenham Hotspur v AZ Alkmaar - UEFA Europa League - Group Stage - Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Richarlison has scored only twice in all competitions in an injury-hit season but Spurs need the best version of the Brazilian now

    PA

Injuries have plagued Richarlison’s three seasons at Spurs and he is a complicated character, with whom coaches have found it difficult to engage. Conte’s hard-line approach — he called Richarlison “selfish” when he complained about a lack of game time — failed to stir a response and Postecoglou has never been one to cosy up to players either. A confident and healthy Richarlison could make all the difference. “When Richy is playing he is Brazil’s No9,” said Postecoglou on Friday. “When he played for us last year he was scoring goals.”

    Rest super-kids Bergvall and Gray

Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray both dropped to the turf and lay flat on their backs at the final whistle on Thursday night, the exhaustion felt by Tottenham’s two 18-year-olds clear for all to see. They have certainly benefited from the injury crisis, having been given more matches and responsibility than they could ever have imagined when they signed from Djurgarden and Leeds United for about £40million combined last summer.

    FBL-ENG-PR-EVERTON-TOTTENHAM

Gray has acquitted himself well despite being thrown in at the deep end — but Spurs risk burning the teenager out

    AFP

At some point, Bergvall and Gray may look back on this period as a formative one — Bergvall has been deployed as a No6 and No8 while Gray has played right, left and centre back, as well as in central midfield — but they need to be managed carefully at a time when errors, a drop in form or injury could have lasting damage.

James Maddison was visibly emotional when talking about Bergvall and Gray’s contributions after the game. “I went up to the lads like Lucas and Archie and said, ‘Don’t underestimate what you’re doing right now,’” he said. “We’re asking so much of them at such a young age.”

    Sign another forward this month

Even before Solanke’s injury, Spurs were prioritising bringing in a forward in the January transfer window but they are yet to sign any outfield players, after the arrival of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky on January 5.

All of Tottenham’s senior attacking players, apart from the returning Richarlison, are now either injured or exhausted, with Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski overloaded and struggling for form in recent weeks while Solanke, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert are all on the sidelines. The 17-year-old Mikey Moore has become an important option.

Tottenham’s league position and salary structure have made it difficult to attract the calibre of player they want, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani making it clear early he preferred Juventus, while the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal entering the forwards market has also knocked Spurs down the pecking order.

Postecoglou has admitted that “potentially” there may be no more new signings, although there is a belief the market may open up once the league phase of European competitions ends this week and clubs that have not progressed decide they need to trim their wage bills. Spurs need to be ready to pounce.

    Prioritise the cups

Tottenham cannot afford to be complacent about their position in the Premier League, with only eight points between them and the bottom three, but realistically they are not going to be relegated. According to Opta’s supercomputer, there is a 0.07 per cent chance that Spurs go down, presumably because the teams 18th to 20th — Ipswich Town, Leicester and Southampton — are also rarely picking up points. With players back, Tottenham should pull up into mid-table.

If that happens, Postecoglou might do well to consider using the league to rest and rotate, while directing the team’s main focus and energy into the cups and, specifically, the Europa League. Fighting for the European places in the Premier League has always been the priority for Tottenham in recent years but their lowly position gives them a rare opportunity to concentrate fully on winning a trophy.

And why not? Winning the Europa League would fast-track them into the Champions League and it is probably their best chance of silverware this season too, given none of Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester City stand in their way. There are no Champions League drop-outs either after Uefa abolished that rule, which means that Athletic Bilbao, Lazio, Eintracht Frankfurt and Manchester United are probably the teams to beat. A first trophy since 2008, and first in Europe since 1984, would secure Postecoglou legendary status at Tottenham. Certainly, nobody would remember when they finished in the league.

Richarlison revival, Van de Ven return, belief: How Spurs can save Ange

After a tumultuous start to the season, Tottenham Hotspur are in need of a revival. However, with the return of Richarlison from injury and the impressive performances of young defender Van de Ven, there is hope for a turnaround.

Richarlison, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, is set to make his comeback in the coming weeks. The Brazilian forward has been a key player for Spurs since joining from Everton in the summer, and his return could provide a much-needed spark in the attack.

Meanwhile, Van de Ven has been a revelation at the back, impressing with his composure and defensive abilities. The young Dutchman has quickly become a fan favorite and his return from injury will only strengthen Spurs’ defense.

With these key players back in the fold, there is a renewed sense of belief among the Spurs faithful that a turnaround is possible. Manager Ange Postecoglou has faced criticism in recent weeks, but with the return of Richarlison and Van de Ven, he has the tools to turn things around.

The upcoming fixtures will be crucial for Spurs, but with a fully fit squad and renewed belief, there is hope that they can save their season and push for a top-four finish. Richarlison revival, Van de Ven return, belief: the ingredients for a Spurs revival.

The first trailer for Zero Day, starring Robert De Niro, has arrived – and it looks like an epic political thriller.

In the brief clip, which can be viewed below, De Niro plays former U.S. President George Mullen who is tasked by the current U.S. president (Angela Bassett) with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyber attack that killed over 3,000 people.

It’s far from easy, especially given that the public seems to view him as an enemy – not to mention the fact that another attack could happen at any given moment. “If the public finds out how deep this really is,” Bassett says, “I don’t think we really survive that.”

Per the official synopsis, “As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and government collide, Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear.”

The series is co-created and co-written by Eric Newman, who served as the showrunner of the Netflix series Narcos and its spin-off Narcos: Mexico. The cast includes Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, Connie Britton, Joan Allen, Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, McKinley Belcher III, Matthew Modine, Clark Gregg, and Gaby Hoffman. Zero Day also marks De Niro’s second-ever television role as a series regular, with the first being the Argentine limited series Nada, which aired exclusively on Disney Plus.

All six episodes of Zero Day are set to hit Netflix on February 20. For more, check out our list of the best Netflix shows and the best Netflix movies to stream right now.

From the mind of acclaimed Narcos showrunner, this epic new series promises to be a thrilling ride filled with action, suspense, and political intrigue. De Niro’s character is a man of power and influence, but he is also a man with a dark past and a personal vendetta that drives him to take on this dangerous mission.

As the trailer unfolds, we see De Niro’s character assembling a team of skilled operatives and navigating through a web of conspiracy and deception to uncover the truth behind the impending catastrophe. With his signature intensity and gravitas, De Niro brings a commanding presence to the screen, promising a performance that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

“Mission: Save the World” is set to be a must-watch series for fans of political thrillers and action-packed dramas. Stay tuned for its premiere on Netflix and get ready to join De Niro on his mission to save the world.

  • Not Even Michelle Yeoh Can Save This

Scientists say that our universe is constantly expanding. But some universes should know when to quit, as evidenced by the first television film (well, technically streaming film) and the 14th overall in the venerable Star Trek franchise. Premiering on Paramount+, Star Trek: Section 31 is a spinoff of the series Star Trek: Discovery but mainly seems designed to exploit the talents of Michelle Yeoh, who, since she created the character of Philippa Georgiou, has added the term “Academy Award winner” to her bio.

Helmed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, the film was originally conceived as another series, but Oscar winners tend to have busy schedules. Hence this one-off, although its conclusion makes it obvious that if the fans demand it, we’ll be seeing plenty more of Philippa and the other figures from the titular rogue organization that defends the United Federation of Planets in ways they would prefer not to know about.

    Star Trek: Section 31

    The Bottom Line

Makes it harder for the franchise to live long and prosper.

    Release date: Friday, Jan. 24
Cast: Michelle Yeoh, Omari Hardwick, Sam Richardson, Robert Kazinsky, Kacey Rohl, Sven Ruygrok, James Hiroyuki Liao, Humberly Gonzalez, Joe Pingue, Miku Martineau
    Director: Olatunde Osunsanmi
    Screenwriter: Craig Sweeny

    Rated PG-13,
    1 hour 40 minutes

I’ll confess to having long lost track of the byzantine chronology of the Star Trek universe, so you’ll have to look elsewhere to find the details of Yeoh’s character, who began as a respected Starfleet captain before shifting to an alternate version as a villainous emperor in the Mirror Universe.

Now she’s back in the Prime Universe, albeit in a different timeline — pay attention, there’ll be a quiz at the end of this review — operating a nightclub in a distant region of the galaxy (it’s good to know that live entertainment continues to thrive even in space). The film begins with a voiceover memo to the members of Section 31, presumably designed to bring the audience up to speed as much as them, featuring the warning about Philippa: “Make no mistake, the dog bites, so watch your backs.”

Philippa feels very much in her element in her club, where her martinis feature raw eyeballs instead of olives. So she’s none too thrilled when approached by the dashing Section 31 leader Alok Sahar (Omari Hardwick) and recruited to join them in a secret mission preventing the United Federation of Planets from being attacked by an ultimate weapon. The name of said weapon provides the opportunity for a less than amusing exchange about whether it should be pronounced “Godsend” or “God’s End.”

The other Section 31 members are an eclectic bunch, including Rachel Garrett (Kacey Rohl), who struggles to infuse Starfleet values into the mission (and who was first seen all the way back in Star Trek: The Next Generation); Fuzz (Sven Ruygrok), a Vulcan who’s not really a Vulcan, as evidenced by his emotional volatility and tendency to speak in a very bad Irish accent; Quasi (Sam Richardson), a shapeshifting Chameloid (originally portrayed by Iman in Star Trek VI: The Voyage Home); Mell (Humberly Gonzalez), who joined Section 31 after the Starfleet refused to allow her to employ her natural charms; and Zeph (Rob Kazinsky), who annoyingly delights in the advantages of his mechanical body modifications.

The screenplay by Craig Sweeny struggles mightily to mine humor from the quirky characters with little success, and such plot elements as the revelation that one of the Section 31 members is a mole are similarly underwhelming. So that pretty much leaves the diversion to be found in the numerous action sequences, with Yeoh again demonstrating her trademark fighting skills (albeit here augmented with distracting digital trickery). The actress has such a commanding and darkly amusing screen presence that the pedestrian film can almost, but not quite, be forgiven for letting her down so completely.

Not that she won’t be back, as evidenced by the ending, featuring a cameo from one of Yeoh’s co-stars in Everything Everywhere All at Once, that makes it clear that more films featuring Philippa are all but inevitable.

Unfortunately, not even the incredible talent of Michelle Yeoh can rescue this sinking ship of a movie. Despite her best efforts, the lackluster plot, poor writing, and uninspired direction have left audiences disappointed and underwhelmed. It’s a shame to see such a talented actress wasted on a project that simply doesn’t deliver. Hopefully, Yeoh will soon find herself in a project worthy of her talents and capable of showcasing her true brilliance. Until then, we’ll just have to chalk this one up as a missed opportunity.
