The insider also gave the deets on contract talks which are supposedly underway. Should The Avengers actress accept the offer, she could be given a $5 million-a-year contract. This would be the same as Jenna would receive – you wouldn’t want to start conflict before the show even began. Everyone involved in Today, Jenna, crew, producers, and most importantly, Hoda, are all aboard the Scarlett train. That’s why the co-host train now has to leave the station.

The “Weekend Update” joke swaps between co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che are always chaotic and jaw-dropping — and the latest installment truly did shock Jost’s wife, Scarlett Johansson.
Jost swung by The Tonight Show on Monday, January 20, where Jimmy Fallon brought up how they saw each other at the Saturday Night Live December 2024 Christmas episode.
“I think one of the best ‘Weekend Updates.’ I’ve ever seen,” Fallon told Jost, before following up with, “Are you in trouble with Scarlett?”

Fallon was referring to the “Weekend Update” joke swap segment that featured Johansson’s live reactions to the unexpected quips.
The actress, who is guest-hosting the fourth hour of TODAY this week, visited Studio 8H for Martin Short‘s December 21 SNL Christmas episode, helping induct the beloved comedian into the Five-Timers Club. She made a surprise cameo in the cold open, and then stuck around for the rest of the show.
“I’m in trouble, I think, with a lot of people. Scarlett was genuinely so shocked,” Jost replied. “Because I was obviously surprised by everything, but they gave her a heads-up.”
Jost explained how the writers asked Johansson if she would be okay with being incorporated into some of the punchlines, “And she was like, ‘Sure! You know, whatever. I’m open to it,’” he told Fallon.
But Johansson had zero idea what the actual jokes would be, and when a particularly lewd one began with an image a roast beef sandwich, she was visibly stunned backstage as she watched her husband deliver the shocking joke — which was also a surprise to him.
“So Scarlett is backstage like, ‘Oh, my God! That’s what it is?!’” Jost continued.
“It was honestly a legitimate live moment, and you weren’t acting at all,” said Fallon, as Jost confirmed, “I was not. I can’t act that well.”
The jaw-dropping segment showed just how good a sport Johansson is.

Speaking of Saturday Night Live, Jost and Fallon teased what fans can expect from the upcoming SNL50: The Anniversary Special, airing Sunday, February 16.

The stunned look on Scarlett Johansson’s face during a “vulgar” joke swap segment on “Saturday Night Live” in December was no act.
The “Black Widow” star had the deer-in-the-headlights look in the Dec. 21 episode as she was filmed reacting to her husband, “SNL” star Colin Jost, reading filthy jokes about her. The lines were written by Jost’s “Weekend Update” co-anchor Michael Che.
In keeping with tradition, each host had no idea what jokes the other had written for them until they had to read them live on air. This time, though, Johansson was watching live backstage at Studio 8H.
“Oh gosh, are we reliving the joke swap?” Johansson told Jenna Bush Hager on TODAY on Jan. 24 while serving as guest co-host of Jenna & Friends. “It’s wrong. It’s just wrong, you guys. It got so vulgar.”
During the segment, Jost could barely contain his laughter as he read the start of Che’s lines.
“My boo, Scarlett Johansson, is so genuinely worried. Hey boo, y’all know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday, which means I’m about to get up out of there!” Jost read on “SNL” before cracking up.
Johansson was asked by “SNL” in advance if she wanted to be a part of the bit, and she said she agreed under certain terms.
“I said, ‘I don’t want to get canceled or divorced,’” Johansson said on TODAY. “Those are my boundaries. And they said, ‘OK fine, what if we just tape you listening to the jokes?’ I said, ‘OK, that seems fine, tame-ish.’”
It turned out not to be so tame-ish, as one joke involved Johansson’s genitalia.
“Honestly Jenna, I felt like it was ‘To Catch a Predator’ when the lights kind of came on me and suddenly there was a whole audience, and I was there with, thankfully, a very stiff cocktail,” Johansson said of her reaction.
“The jokes got — they were so vulgar,” she said. “That’s genuine shock.”
Jost also affirmed earlier this week that his wife was not acting when she gave that reaction.
“Scarlett was genuinely so shocked,” Jost told Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” Jan. 20. “I was obviously surprised by everything, but they gave her a heads-up.”
Even for an “SNL” regular like Johansson, who has hosted the show six times and made multiple other appearances, Che’s lines, as read by Jost, were an eye opener.
“Emma Stone, who was also there because we were doing a five-timers thing for Martin Short, turned to me and she went, ‘That was not OK. That was not OK,’” Johansson said. “My heart was racing. My eyes were watering. My hands were like this (shaking). It was surreal.”
During the “SNL” segment, Che also had to read jokes written by Jost.
“(Jost) writes also for Michael Che, but I honestly feel like Michael is trying to get us permanently removed, I don’t know,” Johansson joked. “He has a vendetta against us. Michael, why?! What’d I do to you, Michael?”
Jenna suggested a way that Johansson can get her revenge. She invited Johansson to return on Jenna & Friends with Che as a guest, and they can do a teleprompter swap.
“I’m all for that,” Johansson said.

She later continued, “Six days after I had a baby, somebody told me that beer would help bring in your milk or whatever it is. So, I think I had a giant Guinness and a huge bowl of puffed Cheetos, and I was staring into the abyss, like, ‘What have I done?’”

Does having an outside-the-box name make you feel happily unique or woefully unusual?
Jenna Bush Hager discussed the agony of never finding her name on an item at the airport gift shop with guest co-host Scarlett Johansson Jan. 22 on “Jenna & Friends.”
The name Jenna became more well known in the ‘90s, Jenna said, but growing up, she could never find items with her name on them.
According to the Social Security Administration, the name Jenna was popular in the 1980s and 1990s. It began it’s declining in 2002 and in 2023 it was the 629th most popular baby girl’s name in the US.
Scarlett, on the other hand, was the 948th most popular name for a baby girl in the U.S. in 1992 but it began surging in popularity in 2002, just as Jenna started to decline. From 2015 to 2013, Scarlett stayed in the top 20 baby girls’ names on average. In 2023, it landed at No. 17.
Baby name expert Colleen Slagan tells TODAY.com that after hundreds of chats with baby name clients, the data reflects what she’s hearing.
Jenna “had its moment” and is “quite uncommon” today, she says. On the other hand, “Scarlett was super rare in the ‘80s. It didn’t even rank in the top 1,000. It’s now the 17th most popular name, maybe thanks to Scarlett herself influencing culture!”
But when Johansson was growing up, “there were definitely no Scarletts,” she said.
“And my twin brother, Hunter — certainly there were no Hunters,” Johansson shared. “But a couple of years ago, we were in Montauk out in Long Island and we were at one of those surf shop places, and there were two mini-keychain surfboards.
