  • Pelicans’ Dejounte Murray out for season with torn Achilles in brutal injury crusher

    Dejounte Murray’s season is over.

The former All-Star guard tore his Achilles after suffering a non-contact injury in the first quarter of the Pelicans’ 118-116 loss to the Celtics on Friday night, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

Murray, who missed the 2018-19 season due to a torn ACL, will now be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, which has been a challenging one for the Pelicans, who are 12-37 and have dealt with a slew of injuries.

Murray, who has missed nearly 20 games already this season after breaking his hand on opening night — causing him to miss several weeks — had averaged 17.9 points, 7.6 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals heading into Friday.

Upon suffering the non-contact injury, medical staff immediately rushed to the court, and he was ruled out for the rest of the game immediately thereafter.

“Extremely difficult, when you see a guy that means so much to our team and puts the work in go down like that,” Pelicans head coach Willie Green told reporters after the game.

New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray (5) reacts after being hurt in the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Boston Celtics in New Orleans on Jan. 31, 2025. AP

“It hurt a lot, l can’t lie to you,” added blossoming wing Trey Murphy III, who scored 40 points and made eight 3-pointers in the loss. “He’s been through a lot already, and it doesn’t help. But a lot of times God puts you through situations in order to give you a bigger message. I think that’s what’s happening right now. It’s not always easy to understand what he’s saying, but there’s always a reason.”

This injury is expected to sideline Murray for at least several months, a significant blow for the Pelicans, as they rely heavily on his dynamic playmaking and defensive presence on the perimeter.

The Pelicans have already been without stars Zion Williamson, Herb Jones and Brandon Ingram.

CJ McCollum, Jordan Hawkins, Murphy III, Jose Alvarado and others have also missed time for the Pels this year.

After the Pelicans’ early setback to Murray, the Celtics capitalized on the momentum.

Led by star wing Jayson Tatum, who drilled a game-winner in the waning seconds, Boston rallied through the contest.

The New Orleans Pelicans suffered a devastating blow as star point guard Dejounte Murray has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a torn Achilles. The injury occurred during a routine practice session, leaving fans and teammates devastated.

Murray, who was having a career year, averaging 20 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds per game, was a key player for the Pelicans and his absence will surely be felt on the court. The team was hoping to make a deep playoff run this season, but now their chances have taken a major hit.

Head coach Stan Van Gundy expressed his disappointment over the injury, stating, “Dejounte was a huge part of our team and losing him for the rest of the season is a tough pill to swallow. We will have to rally together as a team and find a way to overcome this setback.”

Fans took to social media to express their support for Murray, wishing him a speedy recovery and noting that he will be sorely missed on the court. The Pelicans will need to regroup and find a way to fill the void left by Murray’s absence if they hope to salvage their season.

It’s a brutal injury crusher for the Pelicans, but they will have to find a way to push forward without one of their best players. Our thoughts are with Dejounte Murray as he begins his road to recovery.

  • NBA Trade Season Latest: Brandon Ingram

Three All-Stars of recent vintage were widely projected to be the starriest protagonists of this NBA Trade Season.

    Miami’s Jimmy Butler.

    Chicago’s Zach LaVine.

    And New Orleans’ Brandon Ingram.

Ingram, though, has been sidelined by an ankle injury since early December and wasn’t generating much trade buzz even before he got hurt, while the futures of Butler and LaVine — Butler’s especially for obvious reasons — have been a near-daily source of discussion for league observers and the basketball public.

Jimmy Trade Watch is obviously in overdrive now after Butler was suspended by his team for the third time, but that landscape might finally be shifting a bit.

The latest buzz in the NBA trade season surrounds Brandon Ingram. With rumors swirling about potential suitors and possible trade scenarios, fans are eagerly anticipating what the future holds for the young star.

Ingram, who has shown immense potential and growth during his time with the New Orleans Pelicans, has been a hot topic of conversation among NBA teams looking to bolster their roster. His scoring ability, versatility, and length make him a coveted asset for many teams in need of a dynamic wing player.

As the trade deadline approaches, teams are exploring all options to make a move for Ingram. Whether he stays put with the Pelicans or finds himself in a new city, one thing is for certain – his impact on the court will be felt wherever he goes.

Stay tuned as the NBA trade season continues to unfold, with Brandon Ingram at the center of attention.

  • ‘SNL’ season 50 schedule: Is ‘Saturday Night Live’ new tonight?

Season 50 of “Saturday Night Live” has been full of memorable moments with hosts including Dave Chappelle, Ariana Grande, and Charli XCX. But who will be the next star to assume hosting duties?

Timothée Chalamet’s double duty performance during the Saturday, Jan. 25, episode marked SNL’s final episode before a short break. There will be no new episode of “SNL” on Saturday, Feb. 1, or Saturday, Feb. 8, per NBC New York.

The outlet reported that “SNL” will return with a new episode on Saturday, Feb. 15, one day before the three-hour “Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special” is set to air.

The sketch comedy series has not yet announced who will be hosting the Feb. 15 show. But in the nostalgic spirit of the Sunday, Feb. 16, anniversary special, it seems likely that the next host will be an “SNL” alum or a fan-favorite host who has appeared on the show multiple times.

Leading up to the anniversary special, the official “SNL” Instagram page has been releasing clips from past seasons. A documentary celebrating the show’s musical guests, “Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music”, also premiered on NBC on Monday, Jan. 27.

The doc, which was directed by Questlove and Oz Rodriguez, features interviews with some of SNL’s most iconic musical guests, including Jack White, Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, Miley Cyrus, Kacey Musgraves, Debby Harry, and Mick Jagger.

During an interview with Deadline published on Monday, Jan. 27, Questlove said he spent a year and a half watching old “SNL” episodes and taking notes to make the documentary. Elswhere in the interview, he gushed about “SNL” creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels.

“His love for the show is deep, and the stories that he has are deeper,” Questlove said. “30 years into my career … it’s almost very easy to be cynical and kind of old hat and be grumpy about it. [Lorne’s] not that at all, he’s very much enthusiastic about it. Knows what he has, knows what he created, shares stories with you. You got to love a person that is in it and of it.”

“Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music” is available to stream on Peacock.

The Scarlet Knights were 7-7 last season. Rutgers suffered a 14-8 loss to Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament.

Junior attackman Grant Rodny was fourth on the team in scoring, tallying 27 points on 20 goals and seven assists. Senior attackman and captain Dakota Eierman was fifth in scoring with 24 points (18 G, 6A).

Eierman was one of two Mountain Hawks to earn preseason All-Patriot League honors. Junior defenseman Richard Checo was also named to the All-Patriot League team.

Eierman had a breakout campaign last season, registering a point in 12 of Lehigh’s 16 games. He finished with four hat tricks, including a hat trick in the Patriot League Championship.

Checo’s 2.82 caused turnovers per game were the second most in all of NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse last season. He finished with 48 caused turnovers and 62 ground balls in 2024. In two seasons played, he’s racked up 102 caused turnovers and 106 ground balls.

Senior Sean Dow returns as the top primary faceoff specialist for the Mountain Hawks. Dow earned second team All-Patriot League honors last season after winning 206-of-363 (56%) faceoffs.

Colin Kurdyla returns as the top scorer for Rutgers. Kurdyla finished with 30 points last season (20 G, 10A). Kurdyla was one of three Scarlet Knights who were named Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch. Cardin Stoller and Tommy Mendyke were the other two players to achieve the honors.

Stoller played in 14 games as a goalkeeper, racking up 174 saves. Mendyke finished with 20 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.

  • Most valuable player for each NFL team: Saquon Barkley key cog for Eagles during 2024 season

The 2024 regular season is in the rearview mirror and all that’s left before we put the entire year to bed is Super Bowl LIX. While the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for that bid to hoist the Lombardi Trophy, most clubs around the league are looking back and evaluating the year that was. And we’ll join in on that fun by looking at every team in the NFL and identifying their team-specific MVP for the regular season.

Of course, quarterbacks will make up a sizable contingent in this list of MVPs given the importance of the position. Still, both sides of the ball and multiple position groups will also be well-represented. Let’s dive in.

McBride followed up his breakout 2023 season with a sensational 2024 campaign. In 16 games played, McBride hauled in 111 receptions, which was the second-most in a single season in franchise history, only looking up to DeAndre Hopkins‘ 115 catch season in 2020. McBride’s receptions also ranked fourth among all pass catchers in the NFL in 2024 and second-most among tight ends.

Even as the Falcons offense went through a tumultuous year that included a late-season quarterback change, Robinson was lights out in the backfield. Of his 17 games played, Robinson had 12 games where he registered at least 100 yards from scrimmage, including 10 of the Falcons’ final 12 games of the year as they looked to make a playoff push. Robinson was also more efficient as a rusher than he was during his rookie season, averaging 4.8 yards per rush.

2025 NFL QB matchmaker: Sam Darnold to the Jets, Kirk Cousins to the Browns, plus 15 other big-name proposals

    Cody Benjamin

2025 NFL QB matchmaker: Sam Darnold to the Jets, Kirk Cousins to the Browns, plus 15 other big-name proposals

Baltimore had a number of worthy candidates (Kyle Hamilton, Derrick Henry, etc.), but how could we not go with Jackson in this spot? After all, he was named a First Team All-Pro and seems earmarked to win his third career MVP award. This comes after the best statistical season of his career, reaching new highs in passing yards, passing touchdowns and yards per attempt. Jackson became the first player in NFL history to record over 4,000 yards passing and 900 yards rushing in a single season.

Of course, Josh Allen is an obvious (and worthy) option here as he was a Second Team All-Pro this season and will probably come in second place in the overall league MVP award race, but let’s give Cook some love. When Buffalo’s offense was humming at its peak, it was when Cook was finding success on the ground. In his third season in the league, Cook tied a Bills single-season record with 16 rushing touchdowns.

Hubbard was one of the unsung players of 2024 and unfortunately had his season cut short due to a calf injury. When he was on the field, however, he was one of the consistent forces within Carolina’s offense. He set career highs across the board and finished with 1,366 yards and 11 total touchdowns from scrimmage. Hubbard also parlayed this strong season into a four-year, $33.2 million extension in early November.

It was another forgetful year for the Chicago Bears that included a midseason coaching change, but Johnson continues to be a bright spot in the secondary. The corner earned his second consecutive Pro Bowl nod in 2024 after playing all 17 games for Chicago while posting eight pass breakups, two interceptions and 53 total tackles.

It’s a shame that the Bengals couldn’t get it together and make a better run at the playoffs as that failure has taken a bit of the shine off of the ridiculous season Chase put together. The Bengals superstar wideout finished with the triple crown, leading the league in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. There’s really nothing more Cincinnati could’ve asked from Chase, who is now in line to get a monster contract extension this offseason.

It’ll be interesting to monitor Garrett this offseason as a potential trade candidate with the Browns possibly hitting the reset button. Looking back on the 2024 season, the pass rusher continues to be one of the best in the league and was again a lone bright spot for the Browns overall. He was named a First Team All-Pro for the fourth time in the last five seasons after totaling 14 sacks, 22 tackles for a loss and three forced fumbles.

Even with Dak Prescott being limited to just eight games this season due to injury, Lamb was still able to help the Cowboys offense produce with Cooper Rush under center. The star pass catcher was named a Second Team All-Pro after catching 101 passes for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns.

Surtain continues to rival for the title as the NFL’s top cornerback. The Broncos defender logged his third-straight Pro Bowl season in 2024 and was named a First Team All-Pro for the second time in three seasons. Surtain headlined a Broncos defense that was among the very best in the league in most statistical categories, including the second-fewest yards per play allowed. Surtain had 11 passes defended this season to go with four interceptions.

At their core, the Detroit Lions were a ground-and-pound football team and Gibbs was the key catalyst in those efforts. One part of the Sonic and Knuckles backfield duo alongside David Montgomery, Gibbs put together a sensational second season in the NFL, totaling 1,929 yards and 20 touchdowns from scrimmage. He also carried the load when Montgomery missed the latter half of the season due to injury, including a three-touchdown performance in Week 18 against the Vikings to help clinch Detroit the No. 1 seed.

The “other” former Giants player who had a tremendous first season away from New York was McKinney. After inking a four-year, $67 million contract with the Packers last offseason, the corner went out and put together a First Team All-Pro season in 2024. In 17 games played, McKinney finished the year with 88 tackles, a sack, 11 pass breakups and eight interceptions. In coverage, he allowed just a 78.5 passer rating against.

Stingley had all the tools to be a shutdown cornerback in the NFL and that was on full display during his third season in the league. In 17 games played, Stingley broke up 18 passes and had five interceptions, which helped him earn his first Pro Bowl and First Team All-Pro nods in his young career. As the primary defender in coverage, he allowed just 47.1% of his targets against to be completed and a 51.2 passer rating.

Franklin has been a productive linebacker for the Colts over the last few years but took it to new heights in 2024. For the first time in his seven-year career, Franklin was named as an All-Pro (Second Team) and to the Pro Bowl. This comes after a league-leading 173 tackles to go with 3.5 sacks (career high), six pass breakups and five forced fumbles.

It didn’t matter who was throwing him the football, Thomas Jr. produced at an elite level during his rookie season. Despite losing his starting quarterback in Trevor Lawrence and having to turn to backup Mac Jones at various points during the season, Thomas completed his first year in the league with 87 receptions, 1,282 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. It won’t be long until he’s considered one of the very best receivers in the entire NFL.

    Kansas City Chiefs

Sometimes you just need to make the boring pick. Was it the most prolific statistical season of Mahomes’ career? No. Did the Chiefs offense look clunky at times? Yes. All that said, the Chiefs still managed to go 15-2 to earn the No. 1 seed in the AFC and that’s largely in part to Mahomes’ intangibles to win football games. He’s the reason why they are still playing with a chance to three-peat.

Bowers didn’t just have a good rookie season, it was one of the greatest rookie seasons of all time. Bowers set the record for the most receptions by a rookie in NFL history and also set a rookie receiving record by a tight end. That helped the first-year tight end land First Team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl nod.

There were a lot of great rookies in 2024, which had McConkey’s first season in the league fly a bit under the radar. The Georgia product blossomed into Justin Herbert’s go-to target, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards. His production helped the Chargers clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2022. Once they got to the playoffs, McConkey set a rookie record with 197 yards in his debut.

On the defensive side of the ball, there was arguably no better rookie this season than Verse. He provided a necessary boost to a Rams defense that had just lost Aaron Donald to retirement that prior offseason. While no one player can replace what Donald did, Verse was a force that goes beyond what you’d expect from a first-year player. The Pro Bowler finished his first season in the league with 66 tackles, 18 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.

It was another topsy-turvy season for the Dolphins on offense with Tua Tagovailoa missing time due to injury, but Achane continued to be one of the more electrifying players in the NFL. His 1,499 yards from scrimmage and 12 total touchdowns both led the team in 2024. While Achane wasn’t as efficient as he was during his brief showing as a rookie (7.7 yards per touch), he was still highly productive averaging 5.3 yards per touch during his second season in the league.

It ended on a rather sour note for Darnold in the playoffs, but his play during the 2024 season had the Minnesota Vikings pile up 14 wins and playing for the No. 1 seed in the NFC in Week 18. That’s impressive and came completely out of nowhere by the veteran. As you might expect, Darnold had career-best marks across the board in completion percentage, passing yards, and passing touchdowns, which helped him be named to the Pro Bowl for the first time. Despite that strong regular season, his playoff issues make his free agent prospects fascinating this offseason.

It was a forgetful year for the Patriots, who moved on from head coach Jerod Mayo after one season. However, Gonzalez continues to show that he is one of the franchise’s building blocks for the future and is one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. The second-year pro turned in a Second Team All-Pro season, breaking up 11 passes in New England’s secondary to go with two interceptions.

Kamara remains the constant in the New Orleans offense and is still one of the more versatile backs in the entire league. Even with the Saints quarterback situation in flux due to injury, Kamara logged 1,493 yards from scrimmage which was his best output since 2020. Without him in the backfield, New Orleans would’ve had zero threats on offense for most of the season.

    New York Giants

It’s been a rough year for the Giants both on the field and off it watching Saquon Barkley advance to the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles. If there is one thing they can hang their hat on, however, is that they have found a legit No. 1 receiver in Nabers. The rookie pass catcher flashed brilliance in his first season in the league and topped 1,200 yards in just 15 games played. Once New York solidifies its quarterback situation, Nabers is primed for an explosive sophomore season.

It was a breakout year for Sherwood in the Jets defense. He became a full-time starter and with that added opportunity put together the best season of his career. Sherwood totaled a team-high 158 tackles to go with 10 tackles for loss, two sacks and three pass breakups.

    Philadelphia Eagles

Were you expecting anyone else? In his first season with the Eagles after signing with the organization in free agency, Barkley put together one of the greatest single seasons by a running back in NFL history. He had a shot to best Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record but opted to sit out of Week 18 to stay healthy for the playoff run. That has proven to be the right decision with Barkley going nuclear in the postseason to help Philly reach Super Bowl LIX. Even as the passing attack had its struggles this season, Barkley kept the offense humming and was liable to break off a 60-yard touchdown at any given moment.

Even in his 14th season in the NFL, Heyward continues to play at an elite level. The defensive tackle was a First Team All-Pro for the fourth time in his career in 2024. In 17 games, Heyward totaled 71 tackles, eight sacks and 11 pass breakups, which helped the Steelers reach the playoffs.

The title of best linebacker in the NFL continues to reside in Santa Clara with Warner. The seven-year veteran was named a First Team All-Pro for the fourth time in five seasons after a 2024 season where he tallied 131 tackles, a sack, seven pass breakups and two interceptions. It was an injury-filled season for the 49ers that helped them miss the playoffs, but Warner was a reliable figure on defense.

There was no sophomore slump for Smith-Njigba, who established himself as the No. 1 pass-catching option in Seattle’s offense. In an offense that features DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, Smith-Njigba led the team in targets, receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in 2024. Smith-Njigba really started to come on strong in the second half of the season, setting the stage for what could be an even bigger breakout in 2025.

The Buccaneers were able to win the NFC South even after losing Chris Godwin midway through the season and also with Mike Evans missing some time due to injury. That’s a credit to Mayfield, who threw for a career-high 41 passing touchdowns this season on top of 4,500 yards passing. Mayfield got that done by helping elevate the likes of Cade Otton, Bucky Irving and Jalen McMillan

There were slim pickings with the Titans after finishing with a league-worst 3-14 record, but Landy was able to produce amid tough circumstances. In 17 games, the outside linebacker totaled nine sacks and 15 quarterback hits to go along with 15 tackles for loss and four pass breakups.

It was a night-and-day turnaround for the Commanders. After a 4-13 season in 2023, the franchise found itself finishing the 2024 regular season at 12-5 and playing in the NFC Championship. That was all thanks to their dynamic rookie QB, who has turned the fortunes of the franchise around for the foreseeable future. Daniels is primed to win Offensive Rookie of the Year after setting rookie records in rushing yards (891) and completion percentage.

As the 2024 NFL season comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on the most valuable player for each team. For the Philadelphia Eagles, running back Saquon Barkley has proven to be a key cog in their success this year.

Barkley, who was acquired by the Eagles in a trade with the New York Giants, has been a dominant force on the field all season. His explosive running ability, combined with his versatility as a pass-catcher out of the backfield, has made him a vital part of the Eagles’ offensive game plan.

Throughout the season, Barkley has consistently delivered big plays and clutch performances when the team needed them most. Whether it’s breaking off a long run for a touchdown or making a crucial catch on third down, Barkley has been a reliable and dynamic playmaker for the Eagles.

In addition to his on-field contributions, Barkley’s leadership and work ethic off the field have also been instrumental in the team’s success. His positive attitude and commitment to excellence have set a high standard for his teammates to follow, making him a valuable asset both on and off the field.

As the Eagles make a push for the playoffs, there’s no doubt that Saquon Barkley will continue to be a key player for the team. His impact on the field and in the locker room make him the clear choice for the Eagles’ most valuable player of the 2024 season.

  • Mohamed Salah scores 20 goals in Premier League season for fifth time

The No.11’s first-half penalty against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday took him to 20 goals in just 23 top-flight appearances this term.

    Salah previously reached 20 goals in a league campaign for the Reds in 2017-18 (32), 2018-19 (22), 2020-21 (22) and 2021-22 (23).

The only other players to score 20+ goals in a Premier League season on five occasions are Alan Shearer (seven times), Thierry Henry (five), Sergio Aguero (six) and Harry Kane (six).

In Salah’s other three top-flight campaigns with Liverpool, he scored 19 in each of 2019-20 and 2022-23, and 18 in 2023-24.

With 177 goals, he now sits joint-sixth with Frank Lampard and seven adrift of Aguero in fifth place in the Premier League’s all-time leading scorers list.

Liverpool’s star forward Mohamed Salah has once again showcased his incredible goal-scoring prowess by reaching the 20-goal mark in the Premier League season for the fifth time in his career.

Salah achieved this milestone with a clinical finish in Liverpool’s recent victory over Crystal Palace, solidifying his status as one of the league’s most lethal attacking threats.

The Egyptian international has been a consistent source of goals for Liverpool since joining the club in 2017, and his ability to find the back of the net with such regularity has made him a fan favorite at Anfield.

With his latest feat, Salah has once again proven why he is considered one of the best forwards in the world and a key player in Liverpool’s pursuit of silverware.

Congratulations to Mohamed Salah on another impressive achievement! Here’s to many more goals to come. #MoSalah #PremierLeague #LiverpoolFC

  • Solo Leveling Season 2 Finally Reveals Jin-Woo’s New Rank

    Summary

    • Jin-Woo re-evaluates his rank and becomes an S-Rank Hunter, Korea’s tenth.
    • His power level surpasses other Korean S-Rank Hunters like Baek Yoonho.
    • Jin-Woo is approached by wealthy Guilds, which could potentially disrupt the balance of power.

Season 2 of Solo Leveling started off with action-packed episodes, something that the entire fandom was hoping to see. We saw Jin-Woo defeating the Ice Elf Boss inside an A-Rank Dungeon while also substantially expanding his Shadow Army. The premiere episodes made it pretty clear that Sung Jin-Woo has come a long way in terms of strength.

Jin-Woo has been using The System to level up at an incredible pace, and he now has access to some of the most powerful weapons. Also, let’s not forget that our protagonist has more than one A-Rank soldier in his Shadow Army. He started off as an E-Rank Hunter, but thanks to the powers bestowed upon him by the Architect, Jin-Woo has now become one of the strongest Hunters in Korea.

How Does Solo Leveling: Ragnarök Compare to the Original Manhwa?

2024 was a busy year for Solo Leveling, as the anime, documentary, and sequel manhwa were released. How does Ragnarök compare to the original manhwa?

Sung Jin-Woo Decides To Re-Evaluate His Rank

    He’s Officially An S-Rank Hunter

More often than not, Rank re-evaluation doesn’t change anything for Hunters in Solo Leveling. Mostly, these Hunters end up paying a hefty fee for the re-assessment only to end up disappointed after getting the same rank.

Of course, there are some rare instances of reawakening, but that usually happens with a Hunter in the midst of a battle. In such cases, the Hunter Association takes action on its own end and sends some agents to re-evaluate the Hunter. This happened with Jin-Woo after he returned unscathed from the Double Dungeon. Jin-Woo was re-assessed by the Hunter Association, but since he didn’t use The System at the time, he was still E-Rank.

This happens every so often. Delusional Hunters who are unhappy with life come here looking for a second chance – Agent at the Hunter Association HQ.

When Jin-Woo appeared for retesting, some agents thought that he was just another “Delusional Hunter” who would end up wasting his money. The agent also realized that Jin-Woo was retested after his return from the Double Dungeon, and it was nothing but a false alarm.

However, the agent is shocked to see the Error message when Jin-Woo puts his hand on the machine. At first, the agent thought it was some technical glitch, but she soon learned that their machine was incapable of measuring Jin-Woo’s mana levels, which further means that Jin-Woo is now an S-Rank Hunter. The last time something like that happened was with Cha Hae-In, who was the ninth S-Rank Hunter to come out of Korea. It means that Sung Jin-Woo is Korea’s tenth S-Rank Hunter.

Jin-Woo’s Power Level Compared To Other S-Rank Hunter

Jin-Woo is the tenth S-Rank Hunter to come out of Korea, but there’s no official way of knowing how he compares to other S-Rank Hunters. Since the mana machine shows an error message when evaluating an S-Rank Hunter, there’s no way of comparing the mana levels of S-Ranks. However, S-Rank Hunters can very well sense each other’s power level. In the first episode of Season 2, Jin-Woo realizes that he’s on the same level as Baek Yoonho, Korea’s weakest S-Rank Hunter. That being said, Jin-Woo levels up after the Red Gate Arc, so he’s now much stronger than Baek Yoonho.

Solo Leveling: Every Human Sung Jin-woo Has Killed In The Anime (So Far)

In the Solo Leveling anime, Jin-Woo sometimes has no choice but to kill humans to level up.

Similarly, in the fourth episode, Jin-Woo senses Go Gunhee’s power level and confirms that, at that particular moment, they are almost equal in power. Despite his old age, Go Gunhee is still possibly the strongest Hunter in Korea. If Jin-Woo is “almost” equal to Go Gunhee, then he’s already stronger than other Korean S-Rank Hunters.

The S-Rank Status Opens A Lot Of Doors For Jin-Woo

He’s Being Approached By Some Of The Wealthiest Guilds

Before the re-evaluation, very few people knew about Jin-Woo’s true potential. However, the much-awaited re-evaluation makes Jin-Woo’s new rank go public, so it shouldn’t be surprising that he is being approached by some immensely wealthy Guilds. A Hunter being evaluated as an S-Rank isn’t a usual occurrence, so obviously, the news about Jin-Woo spreads like wildfire. In fact, Choi Jong-In, the Guild Master Hunters Guild (Korea’s largest Guild), was already enquiring about the Hunter who “took down the Red Gate.” And, well, he only had to walk a few steps to find the guy. Choi Jong-In instantly senses Jin-Woo’s mana level and extends his hand for friendship. However, Jin-Woo turns him down by saying that he’s in a hurry. So, you could say that Jin-Woo has already rejected the offer from Korea’s wealthiest Guild.

At the same time, Baek Yoonho, Guild Master of the White Tiger Guild, ran all the way to find Jin-Woo in the building. Baek already made it pretty clear that he wants to recruit Jin-Woo. But now that Jin-Woo is officially an S-Rank, Baek is growing more desperate to bag the Hunter for his Guild. There are five big Guilds in Korea, so it’s obvious that the three remaining Guilds will also approach Jin-Woo and try to recruit him. However, Jin-Woo joining one of the five Guilds could throw things out of balance.

These five behemoths are barely maintaining balance. But as soon as you join any of them, that balance will be shattered – Go Gunhee to Sung Jin-Woo.

As Go Gunhee mentioned in the episode, the five major Guilds are “barely maintaining balance,” and that balance will shatter if Jin-Woo joins one of these Guilds. In short, one of these Guilds can control the entire country if it comes out on the top. To prevent that from happening, Go Gunhee offers Jin-Woo the opportunity to join the Korean Hunters Association. Hunters Association can become powerful enough to keep a check on these Guilds if Jin-Woo joins them. But, as expected, Jin-Woo also rejects Go Gunhee’s offer. At first, Go Gunhee wonders if he’s rejecting the offer because of money, but there’s something else going on in Jin-Woo’s mind. Apparently, the Hunters Association doesn’t take part in Dungeon Raids, and Jin-Woo needs to fight monsters to level up.

Jin-Woo is getting all the unwanted attention right now, and it isn’t going to stop anytime soon. Right now, the world sees Jin-Woo as Korea’s tenth S-Rank Hunter, but it won’t take long for Jin-Woo to become the world’s strongest. When that happens, our beloved protagonist will get offers from Guilds outside of Korea as well.

Solo Leveling Episode 16 Adapted Manhwa Chapters 61 – 66

Sung Jinwoo gets tested at the Hunter’s Association in Solo Leveling Season 2
    Image via A-1 Pictures

Solo Leveling Episode 16, “I Need to Stop Faking”, was an important turning point in Sung Jinwoo’s story. Ever since Jinwoo experienced his reawakening as the Player and started leveling up, he felt it best to keep his true rank a secret. The fact he could grow stronger only would’ve complicated things and raise questions among other Hunters. Despite the Hunter’s Association and White Tiger Guild having their suspicions, Jinwoo was (mostly) able to fly under the radar until the start of Season 2.

After the incident at the Red Gate, it became clear to the powers that be that Jinwoo was a False Ranker who had likely experienced a Second Awakening. Given the ever-increasing number of people who had become suspicious of him, as well as the fact that his ability to level up would be stagnated if he was forced to only go on low-ranking dungeon raids, Jinwoo finally decided to get his rank reevaluated. As expected, Jinwoo is definitely not the weakest E Rank Hunter anymore. Jinwoo’s Rank Retesting at the Hunter’s Association confirmed that he was now an S-Rank, and only the 10th such Ranking Hunter in all of Korea.

It’s not a malfunction. It’s saying he can’t be assessed. It means he’s got more magic power than can be measured with this machine! … He’s the tenth person ever in the country… to be an S-Rank.

Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 3 Reveals a Hidden Detail Manhwa Readers Probably Missed

Without his dad around, Solo Leveling’s Sung Jinwoo was forced to level up solo in more ways than one. Episode 15 signals a potential change for him.

This immediately caught the attention of the major Guilds, including the top-ranked Guild, Hunters. Even the President of the Hunter’s Association, Go Gunhee, offered Jinwoo a job as the “top priority” of the Association, a position Jinwoo understood was of the utmost importance. Unfortunately, Jinwoo was forced to turn it down, as he understood he wouldn’t have much opportunity to level up in dungeons if he took a job at the Association. Despite being recognized by all the people with power in Hunter society, Jinwoo is still left with a three-day grace period before he has a final retesting to confirm his new rank, and his identity as one of Korea’s most powerful Hunters is officially released to the public.

With only a few days until he’s officially an S Rank, Jinwoo decides to take advantage of the time he has left as an E Rank. He signs up to take a job with the excavation team for a dungeon with the Hunters Guild in hopes of seeing how Korea’s top Guild handles raids. However, when Jinwoo steps a little too far into the dungeon, he’s confronted by the most powerful threat he has had to face yet: Cha Haein. Episode 4 was filled with nostalgic moments of reflection for Jinwoo, as he considered how far he had already come since the Double Dungeon. Come Episode 5, the strongest Hunters in Korea will recognize how far Jinwoo has come too.

Sung Jinwoo Will Formally Meet Cha Haein For the First Time in Season 2 Episode 5

Solo Leveling Episode 17 is Expected to Adapt Manhwa Chapters 67 – 71

As it’s done every week since the series first began, the Solo Leveling anime’s official website has been updated with some interesting preview images that hint at the next episode, as well as a description of what to expect. One of the preview images is perhaps one of the most memorable scenes in the manhwa, depicting the moment Cha Haein smells Jinwoo as the two walk past each other.

What’s so important about this is that Haein has a unique ability to smell the mana of other people, which is often an overpowering & disgusting stench for her. This is an ability that’s extremely rare in Hunters, with only one other Hunter in the series displaying it in a later arc. However, when she smells Jinwoo for the first time, not only does he not smell bad, he actually smells good to her. This is a profound moment that foreshadows the rest of the series, yet for now it remains a mystery to both Haein and the audience.

Solo Leveling Season 2, Episode 5 Teases Sung Jinwoo’s ‘Ominous Premonition’ Come True in High Orc Attack

A-1 Pictures’ upcoming Solo Leveling Season 2, Episode 5 teases an “ominous premonition” come to life as Sung Jinwoo faces a High Orc attack.

Two of the pictures previewed for Episode 5 depict brand new, never-before-seen Hunters in the anime. The main one seen in the images is Kihoon Son, Captain of the A-Rank Gate Strike Squad Jinwoo will inevitably join in the upcoming episode. There’s also an image of Son accompanied by the rest of the raid party, including Jinwoo, who lags in the back as per his role as their luggage carrier. Another notable preview image showcases a group of powerful-looking Magic Beasts. These are the High Orcs, whom Jinwoo will inevitably encounter on his second raid with the Hunters Guild, as the episode’s official description hints.

Jinwoo, who was suddenly assigned to accompany the Hunters’ second attack force as a baggage carrier, had an ominous premonition the moment he stepped into the dungeon. His premonition turned out to be correct, as a group of High Orcs attacked the attack force. Covered in wounds, the attack force returned to the entrance gate to withdraw, but a barrier had been set up there…

    – Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 5 Official Description

As the description points out, Jinwoo’s mission into the dungeon with Kihoon Son’s Strike Team won’t exactly go smoothly, as they’ll be approached by a group of powerful High Orcs. This tribe of Orcs is extremely important to the series going forward, as their leader goes on to become one of Jinwoo’s most beloved Shadow Soldiers. Kihoon’s group is incredibly strong, but they won’t be prepared to face a group of high-ranking Magic Beasts like the High Orcs. As Episode 5’s title suggests, fighting powerful monsters is what Kihoon Son’s strike team was trained to do, but as Solo Leveling fans know: no amount of training can increase a Hunter’s Rank. That is, unless that Hunter is Sung Jinwoo.

Solo Leveling Season 2 is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
