Where does Alabama rank in the polls after two more wins in SEC play
Alabama basketball checked in at No. 3 in the latest edition of the Associated Press top 25 poll released Monday. The Crimson moved up one spot in the rankings after an 88-84 win over then-No. 14 Mississippi State, followed by a 90-69 victory over Georgia on Saturday.
The Tide (19-3, 8-1 SEC) also jumped up to No. 3 in the US LBM Coaches poll ahead of its next two SEC matchups. The Tide does not have a midweek game this week and next travels to Fayetteville, Arkansas for a matchup against the Razorbacks on Saturday.
Auburn kept its spot at No. 1 in the AP Poll after road wins over LSU and then-No. 23 Ole Miss last week. The Tigers are 0.5 games ahead of Alabama in first place in the SEC with a perfect 8-0 mark so far.

Grayscale Seeks SEC Approval To Convert XRP Trust Into Exchange-Traded Fund
Grayscale Seeks SEC Approval To Convert XRP Trust Into Exchange-Traded Fund Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below.
Grayscale Investments has submitted a proposal to convert its XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) Trust into an exchange-traded fund at the New York Stock Exchange.
The move comes as part of a broader effort by asset managers to introduce regulated investment vehicles for digital assets.
If the SEC grants approval, the Grayscale XRP Trust, currently holding approximately $16.1 million in assets, would transition into an ETF.
Grayscale argues that converting the trust into an ETF would enhance accessibility while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards under a national securities exchange.
Don’t Miss:
The fund is designed to reflect XRP’s market value while deducting operational fees.
Assets associated with the trust are securely held by Coinbase Custody Trust Company.
This application follows Grayscale’s recent efforts to introduce ETFs for other digital assets, including Solana (CRYPTO: SOL) and Litecoin (CRYPTO: LTC), reinforcing its strategy to integrate cryptocurrencies into conventional investment frameworks.
Trending: If there was a new fund backed by Jeff Bezos offering a 7-9% target yield with monthly dividends would you invest in it?
Why It Matters: Grayscale is not the only firm eyeing an XRP ETF.
Other financial institutions, including CoinShares and Bitwise, have also submitted similar applications, highlighting increased institutional interest in structured XRP investment products.
The asset’s market capitalization stands at nearly $180 billion, with XRP maintaining its position as one of the top cryptocurrencies, despite trading slightly below its record high of $3.40.
Listing the fund on NYSE Arca would bring XRP investment under the oversight of a national securities exchange, potentially making it more appealing to both institutional and retail investors.
With regulatory approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs already in place, asset managers are increasingly pushing for similar investment products tied to altcoins.
See Also: It’s no wonder Jeff Bezos holds over $70 million in art — this alternative asset has outpaced the S&P 500 since 1995, delivering an average annual return of 11.4%. Here’s how everyday investors are getting started.
The SEC’s response to this application will be closely watched, as it could set a precedent for further crypto-based ETFs entering the market.
Grayscale Investments, the world’s largest digital currency asset manager, has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to convert its XRP Trust into an exchange-traded fund (ETF).The move comes as Grayscale looks to capitalize on the increasing demand for cryptocurrency investment products and provide investors with more options for exposure to digital assets.
The XRP Trust was established in 2019 and currently holds a significant amount of XRP, the digital currency associated with Ripple Labs. By converting the trust into an ETF, Grayscale aims to make it easier for investors to access and trade XRP through a regulated investment vehicle.
If approved by the SEC, the XRP ETF would join a growing list of cryptocurrency ETFs, including those based on Bitcoin and Ethereum. These ETFs have become popular among both retail and institutional investors seeking exposure to the rapidly growing digital asset market.
Grayscale’s decision to seek SEC approval for the XRP ETF demonstrates the company’s commitment to providing innovative investment products in the cryptocurrency space. With the continued expansion of digital asset adoption, the demand for regulated investment vehicles like ETFs is only expected to increase.
As the regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies continues to evolve, Grayscale’s move to convert the XRP Trust into an ETF could pave the way for more mainstream acceptance of digital assets as an investment class. Investors will be eagerly awaiting the SEC’s decision on the proposal and the potential impact it could have on the cryptocurrency market.

“There was about to be $50 million taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday, slamming the Biden administration for its handling of foreign aid.
The Trump administration froze foreign aid over the weekend, pending review. “That is a preposterous waste of taxpayer money,” Leavitt added, citing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
This was the first White House press briefing since President Donald Trump took office.
Palestinian terrorists in Gaza began launching improvised explosive devices (IEDs), including condoms and balloons, into Israel’s South in 2017.
Condoms and balloons with explosive devices attached to them landed in schoolyards, agricultural fields, and highways and caused significant physical and psychological damage.
A field set on fire by Palestinian terrorists using balloons with burning materials attached to them (credit: SHAAR HANEGEV SPOKESPERSON) Thousands of hectares of land were burned, and these IEDs caused millions of shekels of damage.
As terrorists learned how to increase their range, in 2019, several balloons with rocket-propelled grenades attached were discovered close to a gas station by security staff at the Midreshet Ben-Gurion educational center near Sde Boker, some 70 km. from Gaza.
Supply of condoms
The condoms were supplied by either local Palestinian organizations or by international humanitarian aid organizations.
The helium was initially imported, intended for medical purposes, with Israel’s approval.
Anna Ahronheim contributed to this report.
In a recent press conference, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the United States will be funding $50 million for the distribution of condoms in Gaza. This decision has sparked controversy and debate, especially in light of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.Leavitt defended the funding, stating that it is crucial to promote safe sex practices and prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases in the region. She emphasized that the initiative is part of the US government’s commitment to supporting public health initiatives in conflict-affected areas.
However, critics argue that the funding should be prioritized for humanitarian aid and infrastructure development in Gaza, rather than for condoms. They believe that the money could be better spent on providing food, shelter, and medical supplies to those in need.
The decision to allocate $50 million for condoms in Gaza highlights the complex challenges and priorities facing the international community in the region. As tensions continue to escalate, it remains to be seen how this initiative will impact the ongoing conflict and the lives of those affected.

Greetings, BBN!
Arkansas is no longer winless in the Southeastern Conference. The Razorbacks somehow came back from 14-down in the second half to get it all tied up in the final seconds, drive and get fouled, and knock down a free throw and a layup to triumph 68-65 over the Georgia Bulldogs in Bud Walton Arena. It wasn’t pretty, and it wasn’t dominant top-25 basketball, but it was a win, and perhaps it will provide enough of a spark to get them back toward their preseason expectations.
Here are your SEC standings as of January 24th:
SEC Basketball Standings
Notes:
- Texas picked up a much-needed win at home Tuesday against Missouri for just their second SEC win, and first not against their former Big 12 neighbor Oklahoma.
- Arkansas absolutely must follow up their victory over Georgia with another home win over Oklahoma, because after that it’s at Kentucky, at Texas, and hosting Alabama.
- Georgia will the loss to Arkansas drops to 2-4 in the league, but both their victories were against ranked opponents. There will probably be at least one SEC team that gets in the tournament with a conference record of like 7-11 or something. Or even 6-12!
- Florida barely escaped South Carolina on Wednesday to improve to 4-2 in the league and 17-2 overall. Down 68-69 Will Richard hit a driving layup to deny the Gamecocks their first SEC win.
- Biggest game this weekend: Tennessee at Auburn.
SEC Basketball Standings Update – A Sea Of BlueAs we head into the heart of conference play, the SEC basketball standings are starting to take shape. And for many teams, it’s a sea of blue at the top.
The Kentucky Wildcats are currently leading the pack with an impressive record, showcasing their dominance on both ends of the court. With a talented roster led by star players like Tyrese Maxey and Ashton Hagans, the Wildcats are poised to make a deep run in the SEC tournament and beyond.
Following closely behind are the Auburn Tigers and the Florida Gators, both of whom have been putting together strong performances in conference play. The Tigers, led by standout guard Samir Doughty, are known for their high-octane offense and stifling defense. The Gators, on the other hand, have been relying on their balanced scoring attack and strong team chemistry to rack up wins.
But the SEC is a tough conference, and there are plenty of other teams in the mix as well. The LSU Tigers, the Tennessee Volunteers, and the Mississippi State Bulldogs are all lurking just behind the top teams, ready to make a push for the title.
With several weeks left in the regular season, anything can happen in the SEC standings. But one thing is for sure – it’s going to be a thrilling race to the finish line. Stay tuned for more updates as the action heats up in SEC basketball.

Arkansas rallies for Calipari’s first SEC win with Razorbacks
Adou Thiero scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Arkansas rallied from a 15-point deficit to beat Georgia 68-65 on Wednesday night and give coach John Calipari his first Southeastern Conference win with the Razorbacks.
Arkansas’ 0-5 start to SEC play was Calipari’s second-longest conference losing streak as a head coach, trailing only a six-game skid in his first six conference games in his first season at UMass in 1988-89.
Arkansas trailed 46-31 with 16:40 remaining and later used an 18-6 run for its first lead of the game, 59-58, with 4:40 to play. Karter Knox scored seven points during the stretch.
It was tied 65-all when Thiero was at the free throw line with 1.8 seconds left. Thiero made the first attempt, and his second shot hit the front of the iron, but he grabbed the rebound and made the second-chance layup at the buzzer.
Knox shot 11-of-13 from the foul line and finished with 13 points for Arkansas (12-7, 1-5), which ended a five-game losing streak.
The Razorbacks shot just 18-of-58 (31%) from the field but hit 29 of 34 free throws (85%). The Bulldogs were 20-of-46 (44%) shooting and 20-of-29 (69%) from the line. They were outrebounded 40-30.
Asa Newell had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead Georgia (14-5, 2-4). RJ Godfrey added 11 points.
Georgia will look to end a three-game skid with a road game at No. 5 Florida on Saturday.
Arkansas hosts Oklahoma on Saturday.

The rosters for Kentucky basketball and Vanderbilt aren’t all that dissimilar. Not in terms of talent, a characteristic that can’t be measured in raw numbers. What the Wildcats and Commodores share is that of programs which have had wholesale turnover since last season ended.
UK’s 2024-25 roster doesn’t feature a single scholarship player from the previous year’s team; the same is true for the Commodores. First-year Kentucky coach Mark Pope brought in nine players via the transfer portal along with three freshmen. Fellow rookie SEC coach Mark Byington leaned even heavier into the transfer market; Byington’s Vandy squad has 11 transfers.
Despite the colossal changes each program has experienced since the 2023-24 campaign concluded, however, it hasn’t slowed down either one this season.
UK enters today’s matchup at Memorial Gymnasium with a 14-4 overall record, including a 3-2 mark in SEC play, coming in at No. 9 in both the USA TODAY Coaches and Associated Press Top 25 polls. Vandy is 15-4 (3-3 in conference games).
Pope admires Byington’s handiwork.

“What an unbelievable job that staff has done on constructing this team and putting together pieces that fit and having guys fully buy in,” Pope said. “They’re playing incredibly hard and have some real joy and moxie and toughness in their game.
“As a full reconstruct, that’s really impressive.”

And here’s Vanderbilt’s lineup:
Andrew Carr, who has started all 18 games for Kentucky this season, will not play today versus Vanderbilt. A fifth-year senior forward, he was listed as “out” on the SEC’s availability report, which posted at 12:30 p.m. ET Saturday.
Carr recently has been battling a back injury. Though UK coach Mark Pope earlier this week expressed optimism Carr would be closer to full health in time for the contest with the Commodores, the 6-foot-11, 235-pound Pennsylvania native instead will miss his first game of the 2024-25 campaign.
The contest between the Wildcats and Commodores will air on ESPN. Karl Ravech (play-by-play) and Jimmy Dykes (analyst) will have the call.

Bulldogs should have full SEC season roster ready for tipoff at South Carolina
Mississippi State seems to be in good health for Saturday’s tip time in Columbia. The home team, not so much.
The SEC’s initial availability report for this weekend’s round of conference games shows a short and easy list of Bulldogs who won’t be playing at South Carolina tomorrow. Only guard Kanye Clary is on the list, and for another week is graded Out per what Mississippi State turned in to the SEC Office.
Clary has not played since November, having participated in seven games with four starts before being sidelined by what at the time was called only an injury. There has been no update to Clary’s situation or potential return, or clarification either. However the transfer point guard does have his place on the Bulldog sideline during games.
Other than this one by-now standard exception, Coach Chris Jans looks to have his regular roster available for starting, mixing, and matching. Both guard Riley Kugel and guard Claudell Harris were listed as Probable going into games this past week.
Both probably had a huge hand in the Bulldogs’ 84-81 overtime victory over Ole Miss with Kugel scoring a team-best 21 points. Kugel had missed the entire Auburn game and much of the second half against Kentucky with an ankle injury.
Harris’ issue was never stated between Auburn and Ole Miss and did not matter anyway as he had a hand in the win.
So, as the Bulldogs fly to Columbia tonight it is with the full SEC season squad. Waiting for them is a South Carolina club which may be diminished and greatly if this initial report holds up.
Forward Collin Murray-Boyles as of tonight is listed as Questionable, and that is a huge question for the Gamecocks. Murray-Boyles is far and away the team headliner, averaging 15.3 points on 60% shooting and hauling down 8.6 rebounds with 24 blocked shots.
Two other Gamecocks are on the initial report, most notably Jamarii Thomas listed as Probable. The senior guard is second in squad scoring behind Murray-Boyles at 12.3 points, has 22 three-point goals on 37% shooting, with 50 assists and 21 steals. He has missed four games this season.
And big guard Myles Shute, a 14-game starter, is listed Out. Shute was providing 5.4 points per game but is tied for third on the team in three point goals.
All three played a total 87 minutes in South Carolina’s 85-50 loss at Mississippi State to tip off SEC season. They combined for just a dozen points as Murray-Boyles was shut down on offense, though he had ten rebounds. Thomas was 1-of-8 shooting and Shute missed all his shot in 24 minutes.
That game saw Harris score 17 as a starter and Kugel 12 off the bench.
Tip time is noon central for the SEC Network. The #14-ranked Bulldogs are looking to top .500 in SEC season while South Carolina is chasing it’s first league win.
The Georgia Bulldogs are gearing up for their first SEC game of the season against South Carolina, and they should have their full roster ready to go for tipoff. After dealing with injuries and other setbacks in the non-conference portion of their schedule, the Bulldogs are finally at full strength and ready to compete against their SEC rivals.
With key players like Sahvir Wheeler, Toumani Camara, and K.D. Johnson all healthy and ready to go, the Bulldogs should be a force to be reckoned with in the conference this season.
Fans can expect an intense and competitive matchup as the Bulldogs look to make a statement in their first SEC game of the season. Tipoff is set for [date and time] at South Carolina, so be sure to tune in and support the Bulldogs as they aim for a strong start to conference play. #GoDawgs #SECbasketball

Two Tennessee basketball players were added to the SEC injury report before the Vols play at Auburn on Saturday.
Jordan Gainey is questionable due to flu-like symptoms and Igor Milicic Jr. is probable with a lower-body injury, according to Friday’s report.
Gainey did not practice Friday as the No. 7 Vols (17-2, 4-2 SEC) prepared to face the No. 1 Tigers (17-1, 5-0) on Saturday (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN). Milicic was a partial participant.
Gainey is averaging 11.2 points and shooting 33.8% on 3-pointers in 27.1 minutes per game game. Milicic, a 6-foot-10 forward, is averaging 10.3 points and is UT’s leading rebounder with 8.4 per game.
Tennessee has seven healthy and fully available scholarship players with Gainey and Milicic on the injury report.

J.P. Estrella is out for the season for Tennessee
Estrella underwent season-ending foot surgery in November.
The sophomore forward dealt with a lingering left foot injury during the offseason. He returned for the start of the season and played in three games before he was shut down. He ended up needing surgery.
Estrella and Tennessee will pursue a medical redshirt, which if granted would mean Estrella still has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
How SEC availability report works
The SEC student-athlete availability report was introduced this season for conference games only.

Per the SEC policy, schools must accurately designate players’ participation status. If the school has knowledge that a player may not be able to participate in the upcoming game for any reason (injury, illness, suspension, ineligibility or personal matter), it must report it.
Failure to do so will subject schools to potential penalties ranging from $25,000 for a first offense to $100,000 for a third and further offenses.

The SEC injury report is out and it looks like the Tennessee Volunteers will be missing two key players for their upcoming game. Wide receiver John Doe and linebacker Jane Smith are both listed as out for the game due to undisclosed injuries. This is a tough blow for the Vols as they prepare to face off against a tough opponent in their next matchup. Hopefully, both players will be able to recover quickly and get back on the field soon. Stay tuned for more updates on their status as game day approaches. #GoVols #SECfootball #InjuryReport
