Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told his second wife Mary Richardson Kennedy it was her own fault he’d cheated on her with dozens of women, according to secret recordings he made of their conversations during their bitter divorce.
“I want to be in a monogamous relationship. I don’t want to be in a polygamous relationship. I think that’s wrong,” he told her in a June 2011 recording obtained by Mother Jones magazine.
“But then why have you done it for 10 years?” asked Richardson, who had found a diary listing 37 of her husband’s infidelities.
“I did it because I was being abused at home,” Kennedy replied.
It was just one of more than 60 conversations that President Donald Trump ’s nominee for secretary of health and human services secretly recorded, according to Mother Jones . At least one recording appeared to have been made when Kennedy was in California, a state that requires both parties to consent to a recording, the site reported.
He apparently used the recordings to compile a 60-page affidavit accusing Richardson of violent outbursts, excessive drinking, physical abuse, and threatening suicide in front of their children.
Richardson in turn prepared a previously unreported point-by-point rebuttal, saying Kennedy “has been stealthily tape-recording phone conversations in my home,” according to Mother Jones . She died by suicide in May 2012, without ever filing the rebuttal in court.
In the document, Richardson admitted she had once lost her temper and hit Kennedy, but she denied many of his allegations—including that she had ever talked about killing herself in front of their kids. Her husband was waging a “scorched earth” campaign against her, she said.
She also alleged Kennedy had physically abused her, was abusing prescription medicine, had lied to her about the extent of his infidelity, and was a bad father. She also called him a “sexual deviant” and a sex addict, and said she had texts and photos from his phone related to his affairs.
“I have witnessed Bobby’s obsessive-compulsive need to not only beat but annihilate someone he perceives as an adversary,” she wrote. “He re-jiggers the facts, or makes them up, and rushes to tell as many people as he can so that is the version of reality that gets distributed in people’s minds—classic gaslighting.”
Kennedy did not respond to multiple requests for comment from Mother Jones . The Daily Beast has reached out to Kennedy’s representatives for comment.
According to Vanity Fair , Richardson’s family has always privately believed Kennedy’s behavior contributed to her death. In September 2013, Kennedy’s 2001 “ sex diary ” was leaked to the New York Post .
In the back of a nearly 400-page red notebook, he listed 37 women and, using a scale of 1 to 10, noted which sex acts they’d done. Sixteen of the women were marked as 10s; on one day he recorded a “triple play” with three separate encounters listed as 10, 3 and 2.
The diary laments Kennedy’s struggles with his “lust demons,” and on days he’d managed to resist a sexual temptation, he wrote, “Victory.”
“Despite the terrible things happening in the world, my life is… great,” he wrote in November 2001. “So I’ve been looking for ways to screw it up. I’m like Adam and live in Eden, and I can have everything but the fruit. But the fruit is all I want.”
In an earlier entry he wrote, “It’s not misogyny. It’s the opposite! I love them too much.”
At the time of its publication, Kennedy denied the diary existed—though the Post released a photo of it. The Kennedys blamed Richardson’s depression and alcohol abuse for her death. After Kennedy filed for divorce in 2010, his wife began drinking heavily and was arrested twice in two years for driving under the influence.
The recordings obtained by Mother Jones reveal how “distraught” Richardson was over the end of her marriage, according to the magazine. By the time they were made, Kennedy had begun dating actress Cheryl Hines —whom he later married—and the former couple was fighting over custody of their four children.
In the recordings, Richardson sometimes lashed out at Kennedy, who Mother Jones reports was “more circumspect” during the confrontations because he knew he was recording. At one point, Richardson begged Kennedy to sign a custody agreement and asked him to avoid having their 16-year-old son Conor photographed in public with Hines.
Eventually, Richardson’s behavior became so erratic that Kennedy was granted custody of the kids. She had asked to live in the guest house and keep the Kennedy name, which Kennedy refused, according to Vanity Fair . He then tried to avoid paying her child support, according to the magazine.
The Mother Jones report comes just one day after Kennedy’s cousin Caroline Kennedy accused him of being “perverse” and a “predator” who is not qualified to serve as the country’s health secretary.
In a letter urging the Senate not to confirm her cousin, Caroline Kennedy—former President John F. Kennedy ’s only surviving child—wrote he was a recovering heroin addict who had “gone on to misrepresent, lie, and cheat his way through life.”
Kennedy’s Senate confirmation hearings are scheduled to begin Wednesday.

Kimberly Schlapman is spilling the beans on a secret she’s kept for nearly two decades.
While co-hosting Today with Jenna & Friends on Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Little Big Town vocalist revealed to Jenna Bush Hager something that she’s kept secret from her parents and children since 2006. After being asked if she’s “ever had a wild night on vacation,” Schlapman decided it was time to share her story.
“When we talked about this earlier, I started shaking, my hands started shaking. I got really nervous,” Schlapman admitted. “I was like, ‘I do have a story,’ but, like, four people on the whole earth know about it. Not my parents, not my mama and daddy.”
Ten minutes before the show aired, Schlapman rushed to her phone to call her parents. She wanted them to hear the story directly from her before they saw it on television.
“I was like, ‘Mama, is Daddy there, can he hear me? I have to tell you something,’ ” she recalled. “And I told her and she was like, ‘What?!’ And then finally I got more nervous and nervous and then she started giggling. And I was like, ‘Okay.’ So Schlap and I got married — my husband, I call him Schlap, our last name is Schlapman. My late husband’s name was Steve. This one’s name is Steve. I can’t call both of my beautiful men Steve, so this is Schlap. So Schlap and I got married November 2006, but six months earlier we eloped to Vegas.”

Schlapman confirmed that until today, almost “no one” — including her kids — knew about her elopement in Las Vegas.
The country music star says that her decision to elope wasn’t a last-minute one.
“We planned it,” she said. “We planned it because we were meeting some family out at the big beautiful lake out there. So Schlap was like, ‘What if we go a day early to get married.’ And I was like, ‘I’ve never done anything bad!’ And I was like, ‘Yes, yes.’ ”

She continued: “And we kept the secret a really long time. And then — this was back when we were booking hotel rooms with Little Big Town, I had to tell Karen [Fairchild] because I wanted a hotel room with my husband. And so she knew and like one other person, I told my sister.”

Even though Schlapman said she was “still shaking” thinking about how she just revealed her long-kept secret to her parents, she noted it was “nice to be free of that.”
Her “beautiful and wonderful” elopement even had an Elvis impersonator at the reception.
Schlapman and her husband, Stephen, formally got married on a private Caribbean island on Nov. 28, 2006, a rep confirmed to PEOPLE at the time. The pair share daughters Daisy Pearl and Dolly Grace.
Schlapman’s first husband, Steven Roads, died suddenly of a heart attack at age 41 in April 2005. He had been her band’s lawyer.

Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre gave Americans a look behind the lectern in a telling Vanity Fair piece published on Tuesday.
Jean-Pierre, who chose to keep her personal life private while working in the Biden-Harris administration, revealed a private health battle that put significant weight on her and her family.
Jean-Pierre recalled attending the Bidens’ first state dinner in December 2022, saying it was “the first time the administration felt a dinner was safe to host since the pandemic began.” That evening, Jean-Pierre was accompanied by her mother, who told her that it was “the happiest day of my life.”
The state dinner was the last time Jean-Pierre “recognized my mother as the woman I grew up with.” Unfortunately, things took a turn, and just a couple of months later, her mother was diagnosed with stage II colon cancer. Jean-Pierre found out that her mother was sick while visiting Poland with then-President Joe Biden.
“My mother has always been a private person. When she finally acquiesced to reality, she told me: ‘Don’t tell anyone. Do not tell the president I have cancer,’” the former press secretary wrote.

Biden was supposedly “one of only a few people at the White House” who knew about what Jean-Pierre’s mother was going through. Jean-Pierre said Biden “showed up for me” during the difficult time.
While navigating her mother’s care alongside her siblings, Jean-Pierre was driving to New York “every weekend I could to see my mom,” only to return late at night to catch “a few hours of sleep” before heading to the White House.

Despite serving in a very public-facing role in the Biden-Harris administration with her “second full-time job” coordinating her mother’s care, Jean-Pierre explained that being a “private person” is only one of the reasons why she did not make her mom’s cancer battle public. The former press secretary said she was also working under the “weight” of being a “first.”
“I’m the first Black press secretary. The first person of color press secretary. The first openly queer press secretary. The first Haitian American immigrant press secretary. The first press secretary to be all of the above. Being a first meant that my responsibilities were beyond those in the job description, the load heavier. I bear a certain responsibility to the communities I represent,” Jean-Pierre wrote.
Jean-Pierre also claimed that she believed sharing her mother’s diagnosis would have been seen “as an excuse” because “society doesn’t allow women of color to be vulnerable at work. When you’re a first, you don’t get the benefit of the doubt.”

Rachel Appeared On NCIS Before Torres’ Time On The Show
Rachel is the late Kate Todd’s older sister, and she appeared as a recurring character in NCIS seasons 8 through 11 as a psychologist. Even though NCIS‘ Kate Todd died in the season 2 finale, her sister, Rachel, did not appear on the show until several years later. Rachel and Torres may not have met on-screen, but they could have met at a work eventand developed a personal relationship from there.

As Torres is very close with his colleagues, it is surprising that he has not revealed his girlfriend to them yet, but the age gap could be one explanation for why he has not.

Grace Has Been A Recurring Character on NCIS Since Season 13
Maybe one of the most controversial candidates for Torres’ secret romance, Dr. Grace Confalone has been a recurring NCIS character for several seasons. Torres began attending therapy sessions with Grace in NCIS season 19 and has since become a much more emotionally available and well-rounded character. While Torres’ therapy sessions have not been shown since NCIS season 20, it does not mean he has stopped seeing Grace.
Torres has had such great character growth in NCIS since going to therapy, so it is likely that he is still going to weekly sessions, but to a different therapist to allow room for a romantic relationship to develop with Grace.
A relationship between Grace and Torres may be unethical if he is still attending his sessions. However, given that he has not appeared in one since season 20, it means he could very well have stopped attending Grace’s sessions to seek her out romantically instead.
