  • Watch Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez & More Collab on Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso’

    Generate Key Takeaways

Ariana Grande will happily sing Sabrina Carpenter‘s “Espresso,” in case anyone thought otherwise — or at least do a dramatic reading of the lyrics.

“This is ‘Espresso’ by Sabrina Carpenter? What is it doing here?” she asks in a video uploaded by W Magazine on Saturday (Feb. 1), where she’s on an interview set and soon learns that the mag’s team intended to ask others to sing the pop hit for a segment of “Lyrical Improv.”

    More from Billboard

“You weren’t going to ask me to sing?” Grande cuts in. When she’s told they didn’t think she’d want to take part, she issues a correction: “You’re mistaken, ma’am.”

Grande and Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo make the cut in the final version of W‘s “Espresso” line-by-line (mostly) sing-along video, as do Selena Gomez, Saoirse Ronan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Harris Dickinson and more. “It’s safe to say Sabrina does it better,” Gomez quips at the end.

Although Ronan seems maybe the most excited to take part, and knows the tune well, she admits that before joining in on the fun she actually thought Carpenter’s song was called “Nespresso.”

Carpenter’s set to perform live at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday. No word on what she’ll be singing, but “Espresso” did earn best pop solo performance and record of the year nominations. Carpenter is also up for song of the year for “Please Please Please,” and her Short n’ Sweet collection is nominated for pop vocal album and album of the year. Plus, Carpenter is nominated for best new artist after her breakthrough year, making it a total of six Grammy nominations for her at the ceremony.

Watch the multi-artist version of “Espresso” below.

  • Selena Gomez’s Deleted Post About Undocumented Immigrants Draws Criticism

On Monday, a day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement that it had made 956 arrests as part of President Trump’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants, the actress and singer Selena Gomez posted an Instagram video to her 422 million followers in which she discussed the situation while crying.

She has since deleted the original post, but its short run online created quite a stir, with Mr. Trump’s “border czar” and numerous political commentators weighing in. One of the commentators called for Ms. Gomez, who was born in Texas, to be deported.

Immigration is a subject personal to Ms. Gomez, a star of the television show “Only Murders in the Building” and the Oscar-nominated film “Emilia Pérez.” In 2019, she wrote an essay for Time magazine in which she reflected on being the granddaughter of undocumented immigrants from Mexico who eventually gained U.S. citizenship. Her aunt, she said, crossed the border hidden in the back of a truck. Her father was born in the United States.

“Immigration is a divisive political issue,” Ms. Gomez wrote. “But immigration goes beyond politics and headlines. It is a human issue, affecting real people, dismantling real lives.”

In 2017, Ms. Gomez was an executive producer on the Netflix documentary “Living Undocumented,” which looked at the lives of eight families living in the United States. “I watched footage outlining their deeply personal journeys and I cried,” Ms. Gomez wrote in the Time essay. “It captured the shame, uncertainty and fear I saw my own family struggle with.”

With Mr. Trump quickly fulfilling his campaign promise to ramp up arrests and deportations of undocumented immigrants, Ms. Gomez was again moved to tears, this time on social media.

Ms. Gomez, sitting in a beige-colored room and looking into the camera, said, “All my people are getting attacked, the children.” She was visibly distraught; her face appeared red from crying and her voice broke as she spoke. Wiping away tears, she added, “I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.” Ms. Gomez’s video was captioned with the words, “I’m sorry” next to a Mexican flag emoji.

After her post, Ms. Gomez was immediately hit with a great deal of negative feedback on all social media platforms, which she acknowledged in her Instagram stories. “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” she wrote in a follow-up post that was also deleted.

Thomas D. Homan, the acting director of ICE during Mr. Trump’s first term and current White House “border czar,” took issue with Ms. Gomez’s post. In an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Mr. Homan suggested that Ms. Gomez’s empathy for deported immigrants was misplaced. “We’ve got a quarter of a million Americans dead from fentanyl coming across an open border. Where’s the tears for them?” Mr. Homan said.

Charlie Kirk, the founder of the conservative political group Turning Point USA, questioned on X why Ms. Gomez, an American, would identify with the undocumented immigrants rather than her fellow Americans. The political commentator Tomi Lahren said on X, “This is why we don’t take our political advice from Disney child stars.”

Among the most extreme reactions came from Samuel Parker, a Republican who sought to run for the U.S. Senate from Utah in 2018. He wrote a post on X in which he called Ms. Gomez’s grandparents “illegals,” despite their having been naturalized as U.S. citizens, and said, “Maybe Selena should be deported, too?”

Others took a more measured approach to Ms. Gomez’s tearful message. “This is an issue for some people that is extremely emotional,” Ashley Allison, a CNN political commentator and former staffer in the Obama and Biden administrations, said during a round-table discussion on the network. “I’m not going to demean Selena Gomez because she was emotionally enraged.”

She also received public support from a wide range of prominent people, including Michigan’s governor, Gretchen Whitmer; the former talk-show host Geraldo Rivera and the rapper Flavor Flav.

Yes. In an Instagram story, Ms. Gomez responded to Mr. Parker, writing, “Oh Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat.”

Mr. Parker pinned a screenshot of her message to the top of his X profile.

Selena Gomez’s Deleted Post About Undocumented Immigrants Draws Criticism

Selena Gomez recently took to social media to share a post in support of undocumented immigrants, calling for compassion and understanding towards those seeking a better life. However, the post was quickly deleted after receiving backlash and criticism from some of her followers.

Many criticized Gomez for speaking out on a political issue, with some arguing that celebrities should stay out of politics. Others accused her of being out of touch with the realities of illegal immigration and the impact it has on communities.

While Gomez has been vocal about her support for immigrant rights in the past, this latest post sparked a firestorm of debate and controversy. Some defended her right to speak out, praising her for using her platform to raise awareness about important issues.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, it’s clear that Selena Gomez’s deleted post has sparked a conversation about immigration and the role of celebrities in activism. What are your thoughts on this situation? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Trump Responds to Selena Gomez’s Tearful Reaction to Mass Deportations With Clip Essentially Accusing Actress of Faking It

The Trump Administration has fired back at Selena Gomez after the singer shared (and shortly deleted) a tearful video in which she apologized for the deportation of undocumented immigrants in the United States.

The White House shared a video featuring commentary from mothers of children who were killed by undocumented people with the caption, “Their courageous mothers had something to say to @SelenaGomez and those who oppose securing our borders.”

The video, featuring women whose children were tragically murdered by undocumented people, also calls Gomez’ character into question and baselessly implies she has no empathy for the victims, and was faking her reaction to the mass deportations.

Earlier this month Gomez, who is a third-generation Mexican American, said in her video, “All my people are getting attacked … the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.” She soon took down the clip amid complaints from Trump supporters.

“Apparently it’s not OK to show empathy for people,” Gomez wrote in an Instagram Story after taking the video down.

On Friday the White House shared its response, which featured the mothers of Jocelyn Nungaray, Kayla Hamilton and Rachel Morin. Nungaray was killed by two undocumented man from Venezuela in June of last year. Hamilton was killed in 2022 by a teenage member of the MS-13 gang, and Morin was raped and murdered by Victor Martinez Hernandez, who entered the U.S. from El Salvador.

“Seeing that video, it’s hard to believe that it’s actually genuine and real because she’s an actress,” Nungaray’s mother Alexis says in the video. “My daughter was a child. There’s many other children whose lives were taken due to people who crossed here illegally.”

“You don’t know who you’re crying for. What about our children who were brutally murdered and raped and beat to death and left on the floor by these illegal immigrants?” asks Hamilton’s mother, Tammy Nobles.

Notably, Gomez in her original video was talking about children and other innocent people being deported despite the Trump administration’s claim the actions are targeted only at criminals. (Worth noting that by itself, being undocumented isn’t a crime, though crossing the border illegally is classified as a civil offense.)

The post Trump Responds to Selena Gomez’s Tearful Reaction to Mass Deportations With Clip Essentially Accusing Actress of Faking It appeared first on TheWrap.

In a recent interview, Selena Gomez tearfully expressed her deep sadness and frustration over the mass deportations happening in the United States. The singer and actress spoke out about the impact these deportations are having on families and communities, calling for compassion and understanding.

However, not everyone was moved by Gomez’s emotional plea. President Donald Trump responded to her tearful reaction with a clip essentially accusing the actress of faking it. In the clip, Trump can be heard saying, “I’ve seen better acting in a B-movie. Sad!”

Many people were outraged by Trump’s insensitive comments, criticizing him for attacking Gomez instead of addressing the real issue at hand. They pointed out that Gomez’s emotional reaction was genuine and heartfelt, and that dismissing her feelings only serves to further divide and dehumanize those affected by mass deportations.

It is disappointing to see the President of the United States resorting to such petty and callous behavior in response to a serious and pressing issue. Instead of mocking those who speak out against injustice, it is important for our leaders to listen, empathize, and work towards finding compassionate solutions for all those impacted by these policies.

  • Selena Gomez Deletes Humiliating Crying Video: WATCH

Selena Gomez might want to put the phone down and go touch some grass.

The popular actress decided to hop on her Instagram story Monday to share a video of herself sobbing over President Donald Trump’s administration deporting illegal aliens.

I had to triple check to make sure this was real because it seemed like a terrible parody. The “Only Murders in the Building” star literally fought back tears while vowing to do something. Yes, an actress is crying because people who have no right to be in the country are being sent back to wherever they came from.

Selena Gomez deletes anti-Trump deportation policy video.

The video was deleted not long after being posted, and as we all know, the internet is forever. She might have regretted sharing it, but it’s not going anywhere.

Give it a watch below, and let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Would we all like to guess how her little meltdown was appreciated? Not well! Below are some of the comments on the video:

    • Winning winning winning
    • So salty. Inject them right into my veins.
    • Hahahahahahaha
    • Lmaoooooo
    • When is she throwing open the doors for her mansion to offer refuge to all the illegals?
    • This is the first time I’ve enjoyed seeing Selena cry.
    • Well, she was correct when she said “I don’t understand”
    • She looks so pathetic
    • Someone honestly should show her the bad hombres we are collecting and deporting. No one wants them in his community. No one.
    • Could someone help me! My face is cramping from smiling so much.

Let’s be clear, nobody who isn’t an American has a right to illegally enter our amazing country and stay here. You either have rules and laws or you don’t have a country. It’s that simple, and President Trump has made it clear those here illegally won’t be allowed to stay.

First and foremost, violent criminals are being targeted and removed. A great example of that is the gang member captured in Boston who vowed that he wasn’t going back.

    Spoiler alert: He is.

People in entertainment don’t understand that this is the behavior that makes the industry so repulsive to regular Americans. We had an election on this issue, and the results weren’t close.

Republicans hold both chambers of Congress, Trump won every swing state and also the popular vote against former Vice President Kamala Harris.

The people have spoken, but Selena Gomez seems to think she knows better. She seems to think it’s her place to get on social media to post a video of herself sobbing. At least she was smart enough to delete it.

Piers Morgan summed it up well.

What do you think of Gomez’s video? Let me know at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Selena Gomez shared an emotional video on her Instagram Story, breaking down in tears over US President Donald Trump’s latest immigration crackdown. The Emilia Perez star, 32, posted the heartfelt clip on Monday, January 27, alongside the caption, “I’m sorry” with a Mexican flag emoji.

In the now-deleted video, Gomez expressed her anguish over the ongoing situation, saying, “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,” she said while visibly sobbing.

Following the video, Gomez shared another message on her Instagram Story, writing, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” seemingly addressing the backlash she received for speaking out.

Gomez’s post came just a day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 956 individuals in a nationwide crackdown, the largest since Trump returned to office. According to a BBC report citing ICE sources, the arrests followed a series of operations over the weekend, with 286 arrests made on Saturday, 593 on Friday, and 538 on Thursday.

Despite the recent surge, data from the Migration Policy Institute, also cited by BBC, indicates that former President Joe Biden carried out 1.5 million deportations during his first term.

Gomez has long been an advocate for immigration rights. In 2019, she produced the Netflix docuseries Living Undocumented, which followed the struggles of undocumented families in the United States.

The singer and actress also shared her personal connection to the issue in an op-ed for TIME magazine in October 2019. In the piece, she revealed that her aunt was the first in her family to cross the US-Mexico border in the 1970s, followed by her grandparents. Her father was later born in Texas, and she credited her family’s courage and sacrifice for her opportunities today.

Selena Gomez Breaks Down Over Trump’s Immigration Crackdown In Deleted Video: ‘All My People Are…’

In a heartfelt and emotional video that has since been deleted, Selena Gomez expressed her deep concern and sadness over President Trump’s immigration crackdown. The singer and actress, who is of Mexican descent, recounted how she felt personally affected by the policies and how they were impacting her loved ones.

“I can’t even begin to express how heartbroken I am over what is happening to my people,” Gomez said tearfully in the video. “All my people are being targeted and dehumanized, and it breaks my heart to see families torn apart and children being separated from their parents.”

Gomez went on to urge her followers to educate themselves on the issue and take action to support those affected by the policies. She also called on lawmakers to find a compassionate and humane solution to the immigration crisis.

While the video has since been deleted from Gomez’s social media accounts, the message of empathy and solidarity with immigrant communities continues to resonate with her fans. Gomez’s emotional plea serves as a powerful reminder of the human toll of harsh immigration policies and the importance of standing up for those who are most vulnerable.

Selena Gomez is devastated amid President Donald Trump‘s immigration crackdown.

In another Instagram Story, Gomez wrote: “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”

The “Good for You” musician’s post comes just one day after 956 people were arrested in a nationwide immigration crackdown — the most since Trump took office once again, per Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), via the BBC.

According to the outlet, the 956 reported arrests come after 286 arrests on Saturday, Jan. 25, 593 arrests on Friday, Jan. 24 and 538 arrests on Thursday, Jan. 23.

Per the Migration Policy Institute via the BBC, former President Joe Biden executed 1.5 million deportations during his first four years — numbers which “mirror the deportation numbers in Trump’s first term.”

Gomez has previously been outspoken in her advocacy for immigration.

In 2019, she produced the Netflix docuseries Living Undocumented, which centered on the lives of undocumented families in the United States.

She also opened up about her family’s own experience with undocumented immigration in an emotional op-ed for TIME in October 2019.

“Undocumented immigration is an issue I think about every day, and I never forget how blessed I am to have been born in this country thanks to my family and the grace of circumstance,” she said in the piece, explaining that her aunt was the first out of her family to cross the border from Mexico into the U.S. in the back of a truck in the 1970s.

Gomez added that her “grandparents followed, and my father was born in Texas soon after.” She credited her family’s “bravery and sacrifice” for her being born a U.S. citizen.

However, the Only Murders in the Building actress was aware her story wasn’t the norm and found herself in tears watching footage about the eight subjects in Living Undocumented.

“But when I read the news headlines or see debates about immigration rage on social media, I feel afraid for those in similar situations. I feel afraid for my country,” Gomez wrote.

Selena Gomez Sobs in Now-Deleted Raw Video with Mexican Flag

In a now-deleted video that has been circulating on social media, Selena Gomez can be seen sobbing while holding a Mexican flag. The raw and emotional footage has sparked concern among fans, with many wondering what may have caused the singer to break down.

While the exact context of the video remains unclear, it is evident that Gomez is deeply affected by whatever is happening in the moment. The sight of her tears and the presence of the Mexican flag suggest that the singer may be grappling with some heavy emotions related to her heritage and identity.

Gomez, who has always been open about her Mexican roots, has been a vocal advocate for Latinx representation in the entertainment industry. It is possible that the video captures a moment of vulnerability for the star, as she navigates the complexities of fame and cultural identity.

As fans continue to speculate about the significance of the now-deleted video, one thing is clear: Selena Gomez is a deeply emotional and passionate artist who is not afraid to show her vulnerability. Let’s hope that she finds the support and strength she needs to navigate whatever challenges she may be facing.

  • Selena Gomez breaks down in tears in emotional video while speaking about Trump’s deportation policy

Selena Gomez broke down in tears while speaking about the deportation of Mexican people in a very emotional video on her Instagram Story.

In her recording, the 32-year-old actress sobbed as she reacted to President Trump’s plan to deport millions of immigrants, which has ignited fears of family separations.

‘All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,’ she said in the since-deleted recording on Monday.

The Only Murders in the Building star previously produced a 2019 Netflix documentary, titled Living Undocumented, chronicling the lives of undocumented families in the United States.

At the time, the former Disney Channel star, who was born in Texas, opened up about her  family’s own immigration story, which began in the 1970s when her aunt crossed the border from Mexico to America hidden in the back of a truck.

Her paternal grandparents, Ricardo and Mary followed their daughter and, once in the US, they welcomed Selena’s father, who is also called Ricardo.

Her mother, Mandy Teefey, is also a U.S. citizen.

In a personal essay for Time magazine, she shared: ‘Undocumented immigration is an issue I think about every day, and I never forget how blessed I am to have been born in this country thanks to my family and the grace of circumstance.’

‘But when I read the news headlines or see debates about immigration rage on social media, I feel afraid for those in similar situations. I feel afraid for my country,’ Gomez continued.

The Golden Globe nominee noted as a Mexican-American woman that she feels ‘a responsibility to use’ her platform ‘to be a voice for people who are too afraid to speak.’

‘When I signed on to executive-produce a show about undocumented immigrants, I couldn’t help but anticipate the criticisms I might face. But the truth is, the worst criticism I can imagine is still nothing compared to what undocumented immigrants face every day,’ she explained.

The Rare Beauty reminded her followers that ‘fear shouldn’t stop us from getting involved and educating ourselves on an issue that affects millions of people in our country.’

Gomez has been vocal about concerns over how immigrants are obtained in the United States and previously called out ‘kids in cages’ that were ‘sleeping on concrete floors with aluminum blankets.’

‘No access to simple dignities! How is this still happening??? It’s absolutely inhumane to treat anyone like this let alone children. I can’t even imagine what they are going through. We need to get this to finally stop!’ she wrote in an Instagram post back in 2019.

In 2020, Gomez gave a heartfelt speech for Define American’s Immigrad 2020, a virtual commencement for immigrant graduates.

‘Congratulations to all of the immigrads! I know that this is a virtual ceremony, but it’s very real, and it’s very real to all of the families and all of you and your communities,’ she gushed. ”I want you guys to know that you matter and that your experiences are a huge part of the American story.’

During her speech, the star reflected on her family coming to American from Mexico and setting ‘into motion’ her ‘American story as well as theirs.’

‘I’m a proud, third-generation American-Mexican, and my family’s journeys and their sacrifice helped me get me to where I am today,’ she said proudly.

‘Mine is not a unique story,’ Gomez noted. ‘Each and every one of you have a unique tale of becoming an American, so regardless of where your family is fun, regardless of your immigration status, you have taken action to earn an education to make your families proud and to open up your worlds.’
