In the 67th Caribbean Series championship game Friday night at Mexicali’s Nido de las Águilas Stadium, the Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Republic faced the challenge of defeating the previously unbeaten Charros de Jalisco, representing host country México.
Leones starter Esmil Rogers and the Leones’ pitching staff were up to the task, throwing a one-hitter against the Charros en route to capturing the tournament of winter league champions with a 1-0 victory.
Manager Albert Pujols’ Dominican club took the lead in the top of the third inning against Mexico’s starter, left-hander Manny Bañuelos, who issued three consecutive walks to load the bases with no outs. Robinson Canó followed with a double-play groundout, scoring Junior Lake with what would be the game’s only run.
Rogers (1-1), named Most Valuable Player of the tournament with 12 2/3 total innings of one-run ball in two starts, overcame five walks and allowed the lone hit with four strikeouts in six frames to notch the win in Friday’s championship game. Leones’ relievers Joe Corbett, Ulises Joaquín and Jimmy Cordero pitched one hitless frame apiece, with Cordero securing his second save in the series.
For Mexico, Bañuelos (0-1) pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
With Friday’s win, Escogido has now won five Caribbean Series titles, tied for third place among individual clubs with the Criollos de Caguas and Cangrejeros de Santurce, both from Puerto Rico. The all-time leaders are Tigres del Licey (11), followed by Águilas Cibaeñas (6), both from the Dominican Republic.
Among participating countries, the Dominican Republic has now won 23 championships, most in the history of the event.
The next edition of the Caribbean Series will take place in Caracas, Venezuela in 2026, followed by Hermosillo, Mexico in 2027 and Miami’s loanDepot park in 2028.

In every generation, there is a chosen one — again.
Variety has learned from sources that a sequel series to the beloved show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is nearing a pilot order at Hulu.
Sources say that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to once again play the iconic title character in the untitled project, although it would focus on a new Slayer and Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series.
Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce. Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar would also executive produce along with Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui will executive produce via Suite B, while Dolly Parton will executive produce via Sandollar. 20th Television and Searchlight Television will produce. Berman, the Kuzuis, and Parton were all executive producers on the original “Buffy” series.
Reps for Hulu and 20th TV declined to comment.
Noticeably absent from the show’s creative team is Joss Whedon, who created the original series and oversaw its seven-season run. As Variety reported in 2021, Whedon was accused of creating a toxic work environment on both “Buffy” and the spinoff series “Angel” by nearly a dozen people associated with the show.
“Buffy” and “Angel” actress Charisma Carpenter also spoke out against Whedon, with fellow cast members like Amber Benson and Michelle Trachtenberg backing up her allegations. Whedon responded to those and other allegations against him in January 2022, admitting that he had been “not mannerly” with Carpenter but otherwise saying “Most of my experiences with Charisma were delightful and charming.”
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” originated as a film starring Kristy Swanson in the title role. Whedon wrote the film with Fran Kuzui directing. It was released in 1992. Five years later, the series version starring Gellar debuted on The WB. It would air on The WB for its first five seasons before airing its final two seasons on UPN. The cast also included Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Carpenter, Anthony Stewart Head, David Boreanaz, Seth Green, and James Marsters among others. Boreanaz would then head up the spinoff series “Angel” at The WB for five seasons.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” has proven to be a massive cult hit and highly influential since its debut. The series is credited for helping to popularize ongoing story arcs in television while also building a show around a strong female lead. It is frequently cited as one of the best television shows of all time.
Whedon previously penned a series of comic books with Dark Horse that continued the story of the series, though no new “Buffy” project has ever made it to screen. Most recently, it was reported in 2018 that Monica Owusu-Breen was working on a reboot of the series with Whedon onboard as an executive producer. Ultimately, that version of the project never went forward.
Gellar can currently be seen in the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” on Paramount+ with Showtime. Though she is perhaps best known for her time on “Buffy,” Gellar’s other notable TV credits include Paramount+’s “Wolf Pack,” CBS’ ”The Crazy Ones” opposite Robin Williams, and The CW’s “Ringer.” In film, she has starred in features like “Cruel Intentions,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” the two live-action “Scooby Doo” movies, and “The Grudge.”
The Zuckermans were the showrunners on the popular Peacock series “Poker Face” starring Natasha Lyonne during the show’s first season. Their past credits include “Prodigal Son” and “Fringe” at Fox, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” at ABC, “Suits” at USA Network, and “Haven” at Syfy. Variety exclusively reported they are also attached to a series adaptation of the novel “The Spy Coast” currently in the works at Amazon.
Zhao received four Oscar nominations for her 2020 film “Nomadland” starring Frances McDormand — best director, best editing, best adapted screenplay, and best picture. Zhao went on to win best director that year with “Nomadland” winning best picture. Zhao is also known for her films “The Rider” and “Songs My Brother Taught Me,” both of which she also wrote and directed. Zhao was also the director and co-writer of the Marvel film “Eternals.”
Gellar is repped by CAA, Linden Entertainment, and Yorn Levine Barnes. The Zuckermans are repped by UTA and Lichter Grossman. Zhao is repped by CAA, Ilene Feldman Management, and Lichter Grossman. Berman is repped by Ziffren Brittenham.
Should the sequel show proceed, it would be the latest series revival to find a home at Hulu. Most recently, Hulu gave a pilot order to a reboot of “Prison Break.” The streamer currently airs new episodes of the adult animated comedy “Futurama,” while a new installment of “King of the Hill” is currently in the works.

Battlefield Labs, a new testing environment created to help develop the next entry in the series, was announced today with a new video that also features pre-alpha footage of the yet-to-be-officially announced game.
Battlefield Labs is the most ambitious community testing program in the history of the franchise and is being launched as the next entry in the series has reached a critical phase in development, which will benefit from the community’s input. The first phase of the testing will go live in the coming weeks, and the initial tests will include an invited group of players in Europe and North America, with plans to expand the number of invited players and server locations in the future. Sign-ups have been opened and can be found on the series’ official website. A video explaining the new testing environment and what Battlefield Studios aims to achieve with it, featuring some pre-alpha footage of the next entry in the series, can be found below.
Very little is currently known about the next entry in the Battlefield, other than the fact that it is in the works. The studio working on the game is comprised of DICE, the creators of the series, Ripple Effect, Motive and Criterion.

War. Colonization. Atomic bombs. I know these things are bad. But if there’s one thing I hate more than nuclear hellfire, it’s losing in games – so when Firaxis’ latest turn-based strategy Civilization 7 dangles these options in front of me as a means of beating slimy Ben Franklin and his diplomacy-loving ways, I gobble up its sinful platter like the greedy little war criminal I am.
Civilization 7 brings a lot to the table, and not all of it requires abandoning your morality to play with. Fans of the series will find a map that’s livelier than ever, city management that won’t overload your brain, and one of the most engaging endgames ever devised. While predecessor Civilization 6 crammed in similar depth without quite managing to convey all of it clearly, Civilization 7 feels like a cohesive next step for the franchise – and when a few quirks are ironed out, this will be the series’ best modern iteration to date.

Whether you’re a returning fan or stepping into Firaxis’ iconic 4X (exploration, expansion, exploitation, and extermination) strategy series for the first time, Civilization’s core premise remains largely the same. Starting with one settlement, you’ll grow your empire across a randomly-generated world with the goal of seizing victory through scientific, cultural, militaristic, or economic means. It’s a tried-and-true formula, but Civilization 7 takes a couple of big risks that shake it up creatively.
The first thing you’ll notice is that you no longer pick a Civilization and get to work. Instead you choose a leader – who remains with you through an entire campaign – while your Civilization choice changes at several points based on your playstyle and leader’s historical background. Rolling with Confucius, for example, opens up Ming China as an option, due to his real-world background, but with multiple iron mines in the bag, I could also go Norman.
I was worried this feature would dilute the identity of factions, but that’s not the case. Rather than picking a civilization with a unique unit that’s obsolete 50 turns in (or one that doesn’t turn up for another 200) you now get to pick a total of three civs that are relevant for their entire duration, all with the nifty perks and special units you would expect from past Civ games.
Likewise, I’ve been dreading how Ages would work since Civilization 7’s reveal. Since the ’90s, Civilization’s whole deal has been unleashing players in a sandbox and letting them do their thing (see: war crimes) uninterrupted. Now, each match is divided into three segments – the opening Antiquity Age, followed by Exploration, and finally Modern.
It’s not always a smooth transition, as each Age has a hard stop that resets the board a little. This is particularly frustrating if you’re in the middle of something important. In one match, I was closing in on the end of a particularly bloody war and within reach of my mortal enemy Amina’s capital when the Age shifted from Exploration to Modern, ending our war and warping my soldiers back to my own distant territories. The rancid cherry on top? Some of the no-name civs who were trailing on the leaderboard got a major science boost through the interim, meaning my empire was promptly invaded by landships while its citizens were still marveling at the wonders of the wooden wheel.

That’s not an indictment, though. Since then, I’ve realized that it takes time to learn how Ages work. In previous entries you’d slowly build strength through the course of each game – conquering capital cities, hurtling towards space flight, or hoarding cultural wonders like a well-read toddler – until it all came to a head. In Civilization 7 victory is more measured, and to carry your momentum through to the next Age you need to complete Legacy Paths: a series of win conditions for each individual age, rewarding permanent bonuses. If you want to win through science, for instance, you’ll start by rushing to build libraries and academies in Antiquity, prioritize housing specialists in your cities through Exploration, and finally try to be the first civ in space during Modern. Doing so lets you carry powerful perks across Ages, whilst neglecting them is a surefire way to fall behind.
I’ve got mixed feelings. Legacy Paths and Ages make the early and mid-game feel a lot more dynamic, and freshen up a campaign’s later stages. But at times it feels like you’re being railroaded into one path – a little jarring, given the freedom of Civ’s sandbox approach up to this point. Although I’d like to see more objective varieties or pathways through these Legacy Paths, I do think that Ages (even if they’re a little heavy-handed) are an improvement to the formula, if only because the endgame is no longer ticking boxes until you reach a surefire win.

When all of that clicks, Civilization 7 is a thrill. Outside of the big gambles, the core Civilization experience is lightyears ahead of anything we’ve seen from the series before. Moving from one turn to the next is near-instantaneous, and besides the world looking sublime with its visual glow-up and warmer palette, it feels livelier than ever. Volcanic eruptions change surrounding tiles, rivers flood, and powerful storms can wreak havoc. I nearly missed out on colonizing a new continent (boo-hoo, I know) because a huge hurricane kicked up as my army was crossing the ocean, gaining on their ships as I furiously fear-hammered movement commands to reach the coast.
That liveliness extends to combat’s impressive fluidity. Army commanders allow you to stack units and transport them around in-sync, and can order simultaneous attacks that are worth utilizing – having every archer in range fire at once gives each unit involved more combat strength, for example, but you can also command mass pillaging or have everyone construct makeshift fortifications on their tiles.
During my first campaign as Xerxes, a three-way war with my continental neighbors Machiavelli and Himiko drew the attention of meddling outsiders Ben Franklin and Ashoka, World Renouncer. The latter two factions had no settlements in the continent, but decided to wade in anyway, landing masses of tanks and gun-toting infantry on our shores and transforming the countryside into a fiery wreck until I turned the sea into a killing field of my own with a blockade of battleships. I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into Civilization, but that single conflict is the most fun I’ve ever had with combat.

Independent powers – a new cross of barbarians and city states – can churn out hostile soldiers early on. You’ll have to stock up troops of your own, or burn through Influence (Civ 7’s new take on diplomacy) to deal with them.
Commodifying diplomacy is an interesting choice (see Strong Influence). Firaxis has long tried to play around the fact that AI motivations can be inscrutable, and reducing it to a resource is an inelegant but mostly effective solution. Besides using it to push trade, scientific, and commercial agreements with other civs, Influence can boost your support for a war back home – whichever side of the battle has lower support takes some pretty harsh penalties in combat, so it’s important to keep the troops happy. But it’s also a step back in some ways, as gold can no longer be used to tantalize other civs into settling wars, and you can’t buy or sell settlements.
This is particularly frustrating because razing settlements in war permanently penalizes your war support for every future conflict, which means that since you also can’t milk your rival for gold during peace negotiations, you sometimes have to absorb rubbish settlements rather than burn them to the ground. That in itself is another can of worms, as Civilization 7 goes big on expansion. Settlements are now divided into towns and cities, with the former acting as lower-maintenance support hubs for your cities.
All of that, paired simpler iteration of Civilization 6’s district system, means juggling your empire is far less of a headache. Because there are fewer penalties to expanding, you (and AI factions) tend to manage significantly more settlements. Finding unclaimed land is now genuinely scrappy, and racing to plant my flag in undeveloped continents has been the highlight of my time in Civilization 7. I’ve admittedly found myself engaging with the cultural side of Civ less because of it, though, and AI has an irritating habit of squeezing a town right outside of your established borders.
I had no idea what to expect from Civilization 7. Firaxis has a habit of scaring fans by announcing wild choices (hello, Marvel’s Midnight Suns) then pulling them off so slickly you forget there was ever any doubt. Civilization 7 isn’t quite so slick – with its heavy-handed Ages diplomacy rework – but it’s certainly a huge stride forward for the legendary strategy series, joining the clarity of Civilization 5 with the added depth of Civilization 6.
Ages will be more divisive – I personally think the system does wonders for the usual tedium of late-stage campaigns – while other features, like pairing Leaders with evolving civs, should be a staple going forward. Civilization 7 already feels like the best entry point yet, and with Firaxis’ habit of saving the real polish for expansions, I think this is going to become a grand strategy titan. Just keep an eye on that Ben Franklin fella – and don’t believe a word he says about any “war crimes”.

As a long-time fan of the Civilization series, I was eagerly anticipating the release of Civilization 7. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Reacher Season 3: Some Things You Should Know…
Back in January 2024, we learned that the third season would be tackling Lee Child‘s seventh novel, 2003’s Persuader, with Reacher going undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past. In February, we learned that Anthony Michael Hall and Sonya Cassidy were joining Ritchson and the returning Maria Sten (Frances Neagley) during the currently-in-production season. Hall’s Zachary Beck is a formidable & successful businessman – and a widow and single father of a 20-year-old son, Richard – who owns a rug import company that Reacher believes is a cover for some shady dealings. Cassidy’s Susan Duffy is an extremely intelligent and tough DEA agent from Boston with a sharp and sarcastic sense of humor.
In March 2024, we learned that Brian Tee had joined the cast in the series regular role of Quinn. A physically imposing and intimidating character, Quinn was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army whom Reacher (Ritchson) investigated a decade prior when he sold military secrets to hostile nations. In addition, Johnny Berchtold was cast in the series regular role of Richard Beck, a sensitive and artistic college student who lost his mother when he was young and is the only son of businessman Zachary Beck (Hall). Five years ago, he was the victim of a traumatic kidnapping that left him mutilated.
Roberto Montesinos‘ series regular Guillermo Villanueva is a DEA agent on the verge of retirement who has served as the mentor and father figure of Agent Susan Duffy (Cassidy). Paunchy with bad knees and a good-natured sense of humor, Villanueva loves and cares about Duffy – even though they bust each other’s chops all the time. Daniel David Stewart‘s recurring Steven Elliot is a clean-cut rookie DEA agent – a lovable guy who’s fresh-faced, new to the job, and still learning. In addition, we learned that “The Dutch Giant” Olivier Richters (Black Widow, Borderlands) has joined the cast as Paulie – one of Beck’s bodyguards and 7 feet, 2 inches of trouble for Jack.

Get ready for your next binge obsession as Reacher Season 3 is just a few days away! The hit Prime Video series brings back Alan Ritchson in his iconic role as Jack Reacher and promises more action, suspense, and new bad guys.
The former military policeman will dive into an undercover mission, fueled by revenge and constant challenges. He is tasked with taking down a powerful criminal organization, especially a character named Francis Xavier Quinn who has a dark history with Jack Reacher.
The twist? Reacher believed he was successful in killing Quinn in the past but turns out he is alive and even deadlier. While he usually prefers direct action, Reacher must go undercover to strike Quinn down.
While the Prime Video series is adapted from Lee Child’s acclaimed novel, the show doesn’t strictly follow the book order. This time, the showrunners have chosen Child’s seventh book, ‘Persuader’ for Reacher Season 3.
As seen in the trailer, Jack Reacher will have to face an enemy from the past, while also fighting other bad guys. Similarly, Quinn is the leading foe in Persuader, who killed Jack’s old ally, Dominique Kohl.
Now that Quinn is alive, Reacher’s got a score to settle, and he never misses!
Prime Video’s Reacher Season 3 is based on Lee Child’s Persuader
After nearly a year of anticipation, fans are getting Reacher Season 3 on February 20, 2025. While the show is based on Lee Child’s Reacher novels, it does not follow the chronological order. The first season followed the first book, while the second was based on Child’s eleventh book.
As for Reacher Season 3, the showrunners decided to adapt book seven ‘Persuader,’ in which Jack Reacher takes on an undercover mission. As promised by showrunner, Nick Santora (via The Hollywood Reporter):
“Reacher [in Season 3] is going to kick the crap out of people; he’s going to be incredibly smart and deductive in figuring things out; he’s going to be a hero and he is going to help save the day! He’s going to be Jack Reacher.”
Interestingly, this is what Lee Child’s Persuader is about. Reacher joins forces with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and finds out that his past enemy Quinn is connected to the DEA’s prime target Zachary Beck, a man suspected of being a wealthy drug smuggler.
As Reacher gets to dig deep into Beck’s history, he also gets to settle his score with Quinn. The book also talks about Jack Reacher’s past life, which will be shown as flashback scenes in Reacher Season 3.
It will reveal more about the former military policeman and how Francis Xavier Quinn’s actions led to the tragic death of Reacher’s young colleague. Not only this, but Child’s seventh book also introduces fans to DEA Agent Susan Duffy, who accompanies Reacher on his mission and becomes one of his love interests.
The role of Susan has been secured by Sonya Cassidy in Reacher Season 3, the actress who has been a part of several engaging TV series.

Jailen Bedford, Jeremiah Cherry, Jaden Henley, and Julian Rishwain all average between 8.2 and 11.9 points per game. Cherry leads the Runnin’ Rebels in rebounds and blocks, averaging 5.4 rebounds per game and 1.6 blocks per game.

Jake Paul and Logan Paul made social media announcements Tuesday that created widespread speculation the brothers would fight each other, but the teased March 27 event on streaming service Max will be a reality series rather than a boxing match, the streaming service confirmed Thursday.
Calling it the “moment you’ve waited a decade for,” the posts featured a head-to-head shot of the brothers with a March 27 date and the Max logo. The release later elaborated on those posts by specifying that the series, which will feature archival and previously unseen footage of the Paul brothers, will involve eight episodes and its debut season finale will air on May 15.
Jake Paul, 28, and Logan Paul, 29, are both YouTube stars who know how to create buzz. Their exhibitions have drawn the interest of the biggest names in combat sports. Jake Paul defeated Mike Tyson in November in an eight-round unanimous decision. Netflix announced more than 108 million viewed the event globally.
Jake Paul and Tyson, the former heavyweight champion, broke records. Promoters said in November that the Tyson-Paul fight was the highest-grossing combat sports event ever in Texas, pulling in $18.1 million. BetMGM said the bout was by far its most-bet boxing or mixed martial arts fight, taking three times the number of bets and four times the money of any combat sports event in its history.

“Little did Jason know that pretty much the second Lasso ended production, there would be copycats popping up like weeds on the various streaming services. The copycat that particularly bugs him is Netflix’s sports comedy Running Point, which has completed shooting and which will roll out next year.”
