IND vs ENG Live Score, 5th T20I: India coach reveals who took the final call on concussion substitute

The selection of Harshit Rana as a “concussion sub” in place of Shivam Dube infuriated England captain Jos Buttler, but India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel defended the decision, claiming that match referee Javagal Srinath made the final call after they presented the young pacer’s name.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir skillfully employed the rules to substitute Mumbai all-rounder Rana, who bowls at early 120 clicks, for Dube, who reached a half-century, when Dube was hit by Jamie Overton off the penultimate delivery of the Indian innings.

“As far as I’m aware, Shivam (Dube) obviously took the knock on the head and when he came off the field during the innings break with mild headache symptoms, we took a name forward to the match referee in terms of a suitable substitution.

“From there it’s up to the match referee to make that decision,” Morkel replied when asked about the controversy surrounding Rana.

With a match remaining, the pacer helped India win by 15 runs in Pune on Friday night, capping the T20I series. He took 3/33 on his debut.

“Harshit (Rana) was having dinner, had to get himself ready as quick as possible to get onto the field and bowl and I thought he did an excellent job,” Morkel said.

When questioned about Buttler’s criticism of the replacement for not being like-for-like, Morkel avoided the subject.

“You know, it goes to the powers sort of above me (match referee).

“Match referee, he made the decision, you know, we can only take the name forward and from there it’s out of our hands. We got the green light to go with that and, you know, we gave it an opportunity,” he said.

The bowling unit’s consistency in execution has greatly impressed the former South African pacer, who joined the Indian team management prior to the home season.

“In our planning we do before games, everybody’s contributing in those conversations. But the main thing at the end of the day is to go out and execute,” Morkel said.

“And I think even if we’re under pressure with ball in hand, like tonight, you know, we were under pressure, defending a total there tonight, it was great character shown by this young group,” he said.

England got off to a fast start with 62 runs in Powerplay, but Varun Chakravarthy, Rana, and Ravi Bishnoi demonstrated their skills by defending a total of 181.

“The way we defended tonight, yeah, I’m just very proud of this team. You know, defending a 180 sort of total on a good wicket with a wet outfield is outstanding work.”

  • Mohammed Shami benched after just one game as Rinku Singh returns from injury – Firstpost

England captain Jos Buttler, who opted to field after winning the toss in the fourth T20I against India in Pune, named two changes for his team – with Jacob Bethell and Saqib Mahmood replacing Jamie Smith and Mark Wood. India, meanwhile, have also included Shivam Dube in their lineup besides RInku Singh and Arshdeep Singh, who replaces Mohammed Shami.

India and England are facing off in the fourth T20I of their five-match series, with England captain Jos Buttler winning the toss and opting to bowl in Pune. Both teams have made key changes to their playing XIs from the previous match.

For India, Arshdeep Singh replaces Mohammed Shami, who has been left out after just one game. Rinku Singh returns in place of Dhruv Jurel, while Shivam Dube has been brought in for Washington Sundar to add more firepower to the lineup.

β€œIt’s all about coming here and playing a good brand of cricket. The pitch looks a bit dry. Three changes. Arshdeep in for Shami and Rinku is back for Jurel. We need a little bit of firepower, so Dube in for Washington,” said Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav at the toss.

Meanwhile, England have made two changes, Saqib Mahmood replaces Mark Wood, and Jacob Bethell comes in for Jamie Smith.

β€œYeah, feels like a great atmosphere and obviously a must-win for us. Really pleased with the performance [in Rajkot] and happy with the way we are moving. I’m unsure to be honest and have to be on it from the first ball,” Buttler said.

While India registered contrasting victories in the first two matches of the series in Kolkata and Chennai, England fought back with a 26-run victory in the third T20I in Rajkot.

India vs England, 4th T20I: Playing XIs

India’s Playing XI: Sanju Samson (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav (capt), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakravarthy

England’s Playing XI: Phil Salt (wk), Ben Duckett, Jos Buttler (capt), Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood

In a surprising turn of events, Mohammed Shami has been benched after just one game as Rinku Singh returns from injury. The decision has raised eyebrows among fans and pundits alike, with many questioning the rationale behind the move.

Shami, who had a decent performance in the previous game, was expected to be a key player for the team. However, the team management has opted to bring back Rinku Singh, who has recovered from his injury and is ready to take the field once again.

This decision has sparked speculation about the team’s strategy and selection process. Some believe that Shami’s performance in the previous game was not up to the mark, while others feel that Rinku Singh’s return is a strategic move to strengthen the team’s batting lineup.

Whatever the reason may be, one thing is for sure – the competition for a spot in the playing XI is fierce, and every player will have to give their best to secure their place in the team. Only time will tell how this decision will affect the team’s performance in the upcoming games. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: India have experienced two very different kinds of victories in their T20I series against England thus far and one more win today would confirm yet another series win at home for them

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Mohammed Shami is returning to international cricket for the first time since the 2023 World Cup final with India captain Suryakumar Yadav saying that his replacing Arshdeep Singh, who has been rested for the third T20I against England in Rajkot. India have won the toss and are bowling first. …Read More

India have experienced two very different kinds of victories in their T20I series against England thus far and one more win today would confirm yet another series win at home for them. It was almost a walk in the park for them at the Eden Gardens where they won the first T20I by seven wickets with a whopping 43 balls to spare. In the second, though, it took a virtuoso knock from Tilak Varma to take them over the line with two wickets and four balls to spare.

England’s ploy of throwing the kitchen sink at the Indian bowlers, particularly the spinners, almost worked at the Chepauk in the second T20I. The fact remains that they would have probably stuck to that tactic today even if it hadn’t worked at all in Chennai. Such is the Bazball way. They have their task cut out for them, though – in India they are facing a side who have won 15 of the 17 T20Is they have played since they won the 2024 T20 World Cup. India are also unbeaten in their last 17 T20I series at home, with their last defeat being a 2-0 loss to Australia in February 2019.

Moreover, India seemed to have changed their approach to T20 cricket during this period. Gone are the days of top order anchors and middle-order sloggers, they all slog now. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have not have too many big opening partnerships but that is largely because they have tried to heave the bowlers out of the ground as often as possible in the powerplay. Tilak has been a revelation at No.3.

Strangely enough, the one player on whom some doubt seems to have crept up since the T20 World Cup is captain Suryakumar Yadav, although the alarm bells are not even visible in the horizon. Suryakumar has scored 12 runs at a strike rate of 120 in this series thus far. Since the T20 World Cup, he has managed only two fifties and scored 242 runs at an average of 23.

In the bowling lineup, it seems pretty certain that Mohammed Shami won’t be playing this time around either. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said that the fitness didn’t play a role in the decision to keep out Shami, who has been on the sidelines since the final of the 2023 World Cup. With Arshdeep Singh’s short-pitched deliveries proving to be too much for Phil Salt to handle, it wouldn’t really make sense to drop him halfway through the series. Moreover, Arshdeep has proven himself to be undroppable regardless of the situation as he sits within touching distance of becoming the first Indian to take 100 wickets in T20Is.

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: What to expect in Rajkot

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: The average first innings total in the five T20Is played here is 189. As stated earlier, India scored 228 for 5 against Sri Lanka the last time they played in Rajkot. There were also plenty of 170-plus totals in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches held here in November-December. The pitch itself looked rather pale without much grass. All these suggest a high-scoring encounter is on the cards. The chasing sides have had a better success rate in T20 games played in Rajkot.

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: A challenging start for Brendon McCullum

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: It hasn’t been a very promising start to life as England’s white-ball head coach for Brendon McCullum. First of all, he has taken over a side that underperformed in the 2024 T20 World Cup and they are now looking quite far away from looking good enough to get a win in India.

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: If England had won the second T20I Brydon Carse would’ve been the player of the match hands down. He bailed England out of being all out for a low score by smashing 31 in 17 balls and then he dismantled the Indian middle order, recording figures of 3/29.

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Jofra Archer blows hot and cold

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Jofra Archer was pretty much the only bowler who could stop the Indian batters from scoring at will in the first T20I. The story couldn’t be more different in the second. He recorded figures of 2/21 in the first T20I, with Abhishek Sharma going berzerk only after Archer bowled all four of hs overs on the trot. The second T20I, however, marked the first time Archer conceded more than 50 runs in a T20I match. He ended up with figures of 1/60.

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: They threw the kitchen sink on Indian spinners in the second T20I and that only almost got them to a win. Not to a win itself. India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Could Dhruv Jurel sit out?

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Dhruv Jurel was one of two changes that India made for the second T20I after the injuries to Nitish Reddy and Rinku Singh. India had called in Ramandeep Singh and Shivam Dube as replacements to the squad and it is quite likely that they will slot in the latter. For that, through, Jurel is pretty much the only player wh seems to be replacable in the eleven.

India have gone at 10.07 in this phase of matches while England have gone at 8.90. India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Suryakumar Yadav’s blitz in the last Rajkot T20I

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Suryakumar can look at what he did on this ground the last time a T20I was played here if he needs some reminding of what he can do on his day. India won the toss and batted first. Suryakumar came in at No.3 and put up a stand of 111 runs off just 53 balls with Shubman Gill. He did most of the scoring in that partnership and later put an unbeaten stand of 39 runs with Axar Patel. SKY finished not out on 112 off 51 balls and led India to a score of 228/5. Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Yuzvendra Chahal and captain Hardik Pandya then packed up the Sri Lankans for just 137 runs and India won by 91 runs.

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Suryakumar Yadav due a big score

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Murmurs of concerns over Suryakumar Yadav’s form is not unfounded. He relinquished the No.3 spot to Tilak Varma in South Africa and that seems to have worked wonders for the latter. India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: India’s two contrasting victories

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: England were hardly able to make anything of themselves in the first T20I but they did more than that in the second. England were all out for 132 despite captain Jos Buttler scoring 68 in 44 balls in the first T20I and India raced to that target seven wickets and just over seven overs to spare. In the second, though, Buttler scored only 45 in 30 balls, but England managed to reach 165/9 thanks to a rear guard act led by Brydon Carse. He then shone with the ball but Tilak Varma stood strong to lead India over the line in a game that turned out to be a thriller.

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Hello and welcome!

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: This series has gone from being billed as the one in which Mohammed Shami makes his comeback to the one in which Mohammed Shami is highly unlikely to make a comeback. And that is because, quite frankly, there seems to be no place for him at the moment. Arshdeep Singh is Mr.Dependable, as the spinners led by Varun Chakravarthy. It is highly unlikely that Shami will play today with gunning for a series win and most probably wanting to maintain the balance that has worked for them thus far.

India vs England 3rd T20I LIVE SCORE: Mohammed Shami returns, Arshdeep β€˜rested’ as IND win toss and bowl first

In the crucial third T20I between India and England, Mohammed Shami makes his return to the playing XI, while Arshdeep Singh has been ‘rested’.

After winning the toss, India captain Virat Kohli decides to bowl first, hoping to restrict the strong England batting lineup and chase down the target later.

  • Mohammed Shami in, Nitish Kumar Reddy out; cloud over Abhishek Sharma: India’s likely XI vs England for 2nd T20I

Team India, riding high on momentum after a convincing seven-wicket victory in the opening match, will look to double their advantage against England in the second game of the five-match series on Saturday in Chennai. Despite lingering fitness concerns surrounding Mohammed Shami, the hosts appear well-equipped to maintain their dominance.

India’s Mohammed Shami attends a practice session ahead of their second Twenty20 cricket match against England(AP)

Shami, who was expected to feature in the first game, was sidelined to allow the management to assess his readiness further. His potential inclusion in this match will depend on a last-minute fitness evaluation. In his absence, the Indian bowling attack excelled in Kolkata, with Arshdeep Singh dismantling England with the new ball and Varun Chakaravarthy delivering in the middle overs.

The Chepauk pitch is expected to favor spinners, much like it has in the past. India’s spin trio of Varun Chakaravarthy, Axar Patel, and Ravi Bishnoi will be key in exploiting the conditions. The home side boasts of quality and variety in a line-up consisting Varun, vice-captain Axar Patel, and Ravi Bishnoi, making them well-prepared for the challenge.

England’s spinners, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone, will need to step up significantly after struggling in Kolkata. With Chepauk’s tricky surface in play, spinners on both sides are expected to have a major say in the outcome.

India’s opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson has been a revelation, providing consistent starts since forming their partnership last year. In the first T20I, Abhishek dominated England with a blistering knock, striking at over 230. However, there are concerns over Abhishek’s fitness after it was reported that the left-hander has twisted his ankle during India’s training session.

If Abhishek is unavailable for selection, there could be a possibility of captain Suryakumar Yadav promoting himself as an opener, since there is no designated opener in the side. Samson, meanwhile, has three centuries in his last six innings, cementing their status as India’s first-choice openers.

They also offer that rare right-hand-left-hand combination at the top, a dynamic that keeps opposition bowlers on their toes.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav will look to regain form, having struggled with just two fifties in his last 11 innings since the T20 World Cup final. Although his performances haven’t hurt India’s winning streak, he will be eager to make a significant impact and lead from the front in Chennai.

If Shami is declared fit, he could replace Nitish Kumar Reddy in the XI. England, on the other hand, might bolster their spin department by including young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed and have already added Brydon Carse and Jamie Smith to their squad.

With both teams adjusting to the conditions, a thrilling contest awaits at Chepauk.

    India’s likely XI

Openers: Abhishek Sharma/Suryakumar Yadav (if Abhishek is unfit), Sanju Samson

Middle-order: Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh

    All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel

Bowlers: Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy

(If Shami remains unfit, he could place Nitish Kumar Reddy)

After a thrilling victory in the first T20I against England, India will be looking to continue their winning momentum in the second match of the series. However, there are a few changes expected in the playing XI for the upcoming game.

One of the major changes is the inclusion of Mohammed Shami in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy. Shami, who was rested for the first match, is likely to make a comeback to the team for the second T20I. His experience and pace will add a new dimension to India’s bowling attack.

On the other hand, there is a cloud over Abhishek Sharma’s inclusion in the playing XI. The young all-rounder had a forgettable outing in the first match and might make way for another player in the team.

Here’s India’s likely XI for the 2nd T20I against England:

    1. Rohit Sharma
    2. KL Rahul
    3. Virat Kohli (c)
    4. Suryakumar Yadav
    5. Rishabh Pant (wk)
    6. Hardik Pandya
    7. Washington Sundar
    8. Shardul Thakur
    9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
    10. Yuzvendra Chahal
    11. Mohammed Shami

With a strong batting line-up and a potent bowling attack, India will be hoping to put up another dominant performance against England in the second T20I. Stay tuned for an exciting clash between the two cricketing giants.

  • India Champions Trophy squad – Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shami in India’s squad

There were injury concerns over both Bumrah and Kuldeep ahead of the selection on Saturday, with Kuldeep not having played any competitive cricket since his hernia surgery in November, while Bumrah had suffered a stress-related injury during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kuldeep has been building up his bowling load at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and is understood to be bowling 10-12 overs at a go.
The 15-man squad will be led by Rohit Sharma, with Shubman Gill as his vice-captain, and also includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was picked for the first time in ODIs. He is likely to be the reserve opener for the Champions Trophy.

With Virat Kohli the No. 3, the middle order has the same look as the squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul retaining their spots, along with allrounders Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Apart from Rahul, Rishabh Pant is the other wicketkeeper in the 15, preferred ahead of Sanju Samson who did not take part in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy. Washington Sundar is the fourth allrounder in the squad, which includes only four specialist bowlers.

Mohammed Shami, who was recently named in the T20I squad for the upcoming home series against England following a long injury layoff, was also named in the Champions Trophy squad. He last played international cricket at the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he was the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 24 wickets.

The final squad for the Champions Trophy must be submitted to the ICC by February 11.

India play three bilateral ODIs against England on February 6, 9 and 12 – their first 50-over games since the tour of Sri Lanka in August last year – before the Champions Trophy. India are in Group A in the Champions Trophy and begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, after which they play Pakistan on February 23, and New Zealand on March 2. India play all their matches in Dubai because their government refused to let the team travel to Pakistan.

India squad for Champions Trophy 2025

Rohit Sharma (capt), Shubman Gill (vice-capt), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja

India has announced its squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy, and it includes some exciting young talent alongside experienced players. Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mohammed Shami are among the players who have been named in the squad.

Bumrah, known for his deadly yorkers and ability to bowl in the death overs, will be a key player for India in the tournament. Kuldeep Yadav, with his deceptive spin and variations, will add a different dimension to India’s bowling attack.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young and talented batsman, has been rewarded for his consistent performances in domestic cricket and the IPL. His attacking style of play could prove to be a game-changer for India in crucial matches.

Mohammed Shami, with his pace and swing, will provide the much-needed experience and firepower to India’s fast bowling department. His ability to take crucial wickets at crucial moments could be vital for India’s chances in the tournament.

With a mix of youth and experience, India’s squad for the Champions Trophy looks strong and balanced. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the team’s performance in the tournament as they aim to bring home the trophy once again.
