  • Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry chasing Sepp Straka after windy, rainy day at Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Sepp Straka took a trip down to the beach that derailed his round Saturday, and then recovered with four birdies on his last five holes in a cold, whipping wind for a 2-under 70 to reclaim the lead over the Irish duo of Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

McIlroy was practically flawless, at least in the nasty conditions, by getting through the exposed stretch of Pebble Beach without dropping a shot and chipping his way around for a bogey-free 65.

Lowry got off to a birdie-eagle-birdie start that allowed for a few mistakes around the turn and he finished with two birdies on the last three holes for a 65.

Just don’t get the idea Irish weather was well-suited for McIlroy (Northern Ireland) and Lowry (Ireland), especially because they now are neighbors in South Florida.

“It might suit me somewhat, but I don’t enjoy it,” Lowry said. “I live in Florida for a reason. I think my game is well-equipped to handle these conditions and I go out there, kind of no fear, and I know I just need to batten down the hatches and make pars when I can.”

The second signature event of the year produced big names at the top, and this one had a distinctive Ryder Cup feel — European, that is.

Straka, the Austrian-born Georgia Bulldog coming off a win in the California desert, blasted out of the sand to 4 feet for one last birdie that putt him at 16-under 200, one shot ahead of McIlroy and Lowry, his Ryder Cup teammates from Marco Simone.

Justin Rose of England, a Pebble Beach winner in 2023 and part of Team Europe later that year, was another shot behind.

Scottie Scheffler, in his 2025 debut delayed by his hand surgery from a freak puncture wound, held it together for a 69 and was six shots behind.

Gone are the days of the old Crosby Clambake, with amateurs having left on Friday. But it was reminiscent of the Clambake weather, not the prettiest pictures but a delight to see golf’s best players have their hands full with a wind ripping off the Pacific Ocean.

Scheffler couldn’t believe it when he hit a 5-iron as pure as can be on the 10th hole and watched it fly only 155 yards, 20 yards short of his target. Lowry knows the feeling. He drilled a 3-iron and came up short.

McIlroy had a suitable game plan. When the wind arrived as he was on the sixth hole, he said he turned to caddie Harry Diamond and said, “Let’s try to chip the ball around today.”

“I feel like I didn’t make a full swing after that,” McIlroy said.

Here’s a look at tee times, groupings and how to watch the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

He had to save par six times from the rough and bunkers, none more valuable than from down in the high grass below the 10th green to 6 feet and a key par putt.

“That was a key up-and-down to just to keep the momentum of the round going,” he said.

The 10th hole is where Straka nearly came undone. His approach sailed well to the right, over the cliff and onto the beach. He went down to the sand and picked up his golf ball, taking the penalty shot instead of trying the dramatic shot off the beach, and did well to salvage bogey.

But he bogeyed the next two holes, going from a four-shot lead early in the round to trailing by two shots. Straka, though, is equipped with newfound confidence and steadied himself on the way in with birdies on the 14th and 15th holes, a 30-foot birdie putt for the only birdie of the day on the par-3 17th and his closing birdie.

It sets up a final round in which six players are separated by two shots and Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 player, hanging around on the edge of contention. He didn’t birdie a par 5 until the last hole — two par 5s on the front were in benign conditions — but made a pair of birdies late.

“I hung in there on a day where I didn’t have my best stuff,” Scheffler said.

McIlroy doesn’t usually have great success on the West Coast — his lone California victory was in early May in the Match Play at Harding Park in 2015 — but has talked about this being a big year for him on several front. Pebble Beach wasn’t at the front of his mind, but it is now.

“It’s really cool to be in contention this early in the season,” he said.

McIlroy and Lowry both began the week making a hole-in-one — Lowry on the seventh hole at Pebble Beach, McIlroy on the 15th at Spyglass — and now the longtime friends from Irish golf will be in the final group with Straka.

“There’s a few courses in the world that you would like to win on and this is definitely one of them,” Lowry said. “So you try not to think about stuff like that and hopefully it comes to you someday.”

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are in hot pursuit of Sepp Straka after a windy and rainy day at Pebble Beach. The challenging conditions didn’t seem to faze Straka, who managed to hold onto his lead heading into the final round of the tournament.

McIlroy and Lowry, however, are not far behind and are determined to close the gap and come out on top. With their skill and experience, they are sure to put up a tough fight in what promises to be an exciting finish.

Stay tuned as these talented golfers battle it out in what is sure to be a thrilling conclusion to the tournament at Pebble Beach. Who will come out on top? Only time will tell.

  • South Carolina coach Shane Beamer has to be restrained after Illinois’ Bret Bielema taunts USC sideline with substitution gesture

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer has to be restrained after Illinois’ Bret Bielema taunts USC sideline with substitution gesture

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer was incensed during an injury timeout late in the third quarter of his team’s loss in the Citrus Bowl to Illinois.

As Illinois’ Jaheim Clarke was being attended to by trainers near the South Carolina sideline, Illinois coach Bret Bielema walked over to where Clarke was. Bielema then turned to the South Carolina team and staff and made a substitution signal with his arms as there had been some gamesmanship regarding subs earlier in the game.

That appeared to infuriate Beamer, who had to be restrained and was screaming at the officials.

ESPN sideline reporter Quint Kessenich was right behind Beamer as the sequence of events unfolded.

“Bret Bielema walked across the field to take care of his injured player and taunted Shane Beamer with the substitution posture the refs do, the matching signal, he did it repeatedly,” Kessenich said on the broadcast. “Beamer could hardly believe it at first. He taunted Shane Beamer, and Beamer had enough and snapped. Shane just turned to me and said, ‘You saw what he did.’ I did see it. I did see it. He taunted the opposing coach.”

After Beamer went berserk, ESPN’s cameras captured Bielema smirking when he was back on his sideline. A common defensive tactic is to take as long as possible when subbing to match offensive personnel to slow an offense down and potentially force a delay of game penalty.

There was little animosity between the coaches after the game, however. After Illinois’ 21-17 win, the two coaches shook hands without incident in the middle of the field. Bielema was directly asked by Kessenich about the incident after the game, but did not answer the question and instead talked about the victory.

Beamer addressed the kerfuffle in his postgame news conference.

“In all my years of coaching I’ve never seen that happen,” Beamer said after the game. “An opposing coach come over while his player’s hurt and basically have something to say to the opposing head coach.”

Meanwhile, Bielema explained his side of the story and what prompted the gesture.

“I love Shane. he’s a good person. I know somebody said that he thought I did [the gesture] to him. I did it to the whole damn sideline,” Bielema said. “I wasn’t going personally at him. I did it to their whole sideline. I just wanted them to understand that I know what just happened.”

The win means Illinois finishes the season at 10-3 for the program’s first 10-win season since 2001. South Carolina finishes the season at 9-4.

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer had to be restrained after Illinois’ Bret Bielema taunted the USC sideline with a substitution gesture during their recent matchup. The heated exchange occurred when Bielema made a mocking substitution signal towards the Gamecocks’ bench, prompting Beamer to react angrily and have to be held back by his coaching staff.

The incident added fuel to the fire in what was already a contentious game, with both teams fighting hard for the win. Despite the altercation, Beamer showed his passion and dedication to his team, standing up for his players in the face of disrespect from the opposing coach.

The tension between the two coaches only added to the intensity of the game, with both teams playing with a chip on their shoulder. In the end, South Carolina emerged victorious, but the altercation between Beamer and Bielema will surely be a topic of conversation for weeks to come.

Overall, the incident highlighted the competitive nature of college football and the emotions that can run high on the sidelines. It also showed Beamer’s commitment to his team and his willingness to stand up for them in the face of adversity.

  • Shane Beamer, Bret Bielema continue exchange on social media

Shane Beamer, Bret Bielema continue exchange on social media

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer and Illinois coach Bret Bielema continued their exchange Wednesday on social media after several testy moments during Tuesday’s Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, which the Illini won 21-17 in Orlando, Florida.

Late in the third quarter, Beamer took issue with Bielema making the “T-bar” signal toward the South Carolina sideline after walking over to check on an injured Illini player. Beamer had to be restrained from charging at the Illini coach.

Bielema said the T-bar is part of an “unwritten philosophy in coaching,” meant to signal a fair catch/touchback on a kickoff to the opposing coverage team. Moments before the on-field altercation, South Carolina made the T-bar signal and proceeded to lateral the ball, leading to a 25-yard return by Nyck Harbor. Bielema said he first learned about the T-bar signal while coaching in the NFL, as a way of limiting the risk of injury on kickoffs.

“There’s nothing illegal, they didn’t do anything illegal, but it put us in a position that the ethic of what that is got evaporated, because our kids stopped [running],” Bielema said.

Bielema added that Beamer “is a good person” and that his signal wasn’t toward him but “their whole damn sideline.”

“I just wanted them to understand that I know what just happened,” Bielema said. “There’s nothing illegal, there’s nothing wrong. I just have never seen it done in any level of college football.”

Beamer defended the play, saying that he informed the officiating crew before the game that South Carolina intended to use the lateral after the T-bar signal, and got clearance from them. He acknowledged that most teams use the signal as a touchback indicator.

But Beamer said he has never seen an opposing coach walk over and gesture like Bielema did.

“You have to ask him why he didn’t take it up with the officials and why he felt the need to come over here while his player was on the ground and look at me and say something to me and do that motion at me, like I was full of you know what to do it,” Beamer said. “That’s what I have an issue with. I’m a competitive guy. When somebody says that to me, I’m going to respond, because I thought that was bush league, just to be completely honest.”

Beamer posted Wednesday on X that he was disappointed in his team’s ethics being questioned, writing, “I don’t take that lightly.” He also reposted a video of an Illinois player looking to the sideline before dropping to a knee during a South Carolina drive late in the fourth quarter.

“Unethical looks like this,” Beamer wrote. “Along w our RB getting his helmet ripped off at the same time , along with the IL player taunting him and then tossing the ball at the Umpire’s leg-Who does nothing.”

Bielema also posted on X, clarifying that his issue had “NOTHING to do with substitution. Had everything to do with player safety.” Moments after the T-bar exchange, South Carolina had to call timeout near the Illinois goal line after a late defensive substitution, to avoid a delay of game penalty. Cameras captured Beamer looking frustrated while Bielema grinned from across the field.

Bielema later reposted Beamer’s message, while writing, “Happy New Year and congrats on a great season.”

Shane Beamer, head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks, and Bret Bielema, head coach of the Illinois Fighting Illini, continue their friendly exchange on social media. The two coaches have been engaging in banter on Twitter, showcasing their playful rivalry and mutual respect for each other’s programs.

In their latest exchange, Beamer tweeted a photo of himself wearing a Gamecocks hat with the caption, “Representing the Gamecocks wherever I go! #SpursUp.” Bielema quickly responded with a photo of himself wearing an Illinois hat and replied, “Looks like you could use a new hat, Shane! #ILLGang.”

Fans of both programs have been enjoying the back-and-forth between the two coaches, with many eagerly awaiting the next installment of their social media showdown. It’s clear that Beamer and Bielema have a good-natured relationship and are not afraid to have some fun on social media.

Stay tuned for more updates on the friendly rivalry between Shane Beamer and Bret Bielema as they continue to engage in playful banter on social media. #Gamecocks #FightingIllini #CoachesBanter

  • Shane Beamer publicly criticizes officiating in Cheez-It Bowl sideline interview

Shane Beamer publicly criticizes officiating in Cheez-It Bowl sideline interview

Shane Beamer is not happy and he is letting the refs know it is because of them.

During his interview after the first quarter, Beamer came very close to completely going off on the officiating crew, but he was still very critical of certain calls made or not made.

Beamer was visibly upset on the sideline during the first quarter, having to be held back multiple times by staff members in order to not have a flag thrown at him. Beamer was first upset by a delay of a game called on South Carolina when they were on defense due to a signaling movement that caused movement for the Illinois offensive line.

After that, South Carolina’s freshman EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart was issued an unsportsmanlike penalty after a play on the Illinois sideline. Beamer continued with his anger rant saying that Illinois broke the huddle with 12 men on the field which should have resulted in a “12 players on the field” penalty.

Beamer paused in his interview and stopped himself from continuing on, but it might have already been too late. Even though Beamer tried to stop himself by saying, “Whatever, I’m not going to get in trouble with officiating,” it probably won’t help. Publicly criticizing the refs like that in an on-camera interview will mostly earn the fourth-year head coach a heavy fine.

Beamer did admit that his team simply needs to play better, and that’s where it needs to start. He plainly said that South Carolina wasn’t doing a good enough job with doing their job, and clearly, that is playing the type of football they are used to.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers has not been able to get into a rhythm, and the team is looking undisciplined right now with the amount of penalties called on them. This game is being officiated by a Big 12 crew today, but South Carolina has to play with what is being given to them, which means making adjustments.

Shane Beamer, head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks, did not hold back in his criticism of the officiating during the Cheez-It Bowl in a post-game sideline interview. Beamer expressed his frustration with several calls that he believed went against his team, ultimately impacting the outcome of the game.

During the interview, Beamer made it clear that he felt the officiating was inconsistent and unfair, stating that there were multiple missed calls that should have been in his team’s favor. He did not shy away from voicing his discontent, highlighting specific instances where he believed the referees missed crucial penalties.

Despite the defeat, Beamer’s bold comments about the officiating have sparked a debate among fans and media alike. Some have commended him for speaking out against what they perceive as biased officiating, while others believe that criticizing the officials is not the solution to the problem.

Regardless of the reaction, Beamer’s public criticism of the officiating in the Cheez-It Bowl has brought attention to the importance of fair and consistent refereeing in college football. It remains to be seen whether his outspoken remarks will lead to any changes in the way games are officiated in the future.

  • South Carolina’s Shane Beamer Takes Subtle Shot at Alabama and Ole Miss With Blunt Citrus Bowl Take

South Carolina’s Shane Beamer Takes Subtle Shot at Alabama and Ole Miss With Blunt Citrus Bowl Take

The CFP rankings always bring out the politicking in coaches. Lane Kiffin is known for his outspoken opinions. Now, it seems like Shane Beamer, the South Carolina head coach, is joining the fray. While Kiffin and Beamer might be playing nice on the surface, there’s definitely some underlying tension brewing. Beamer has been subtly throwing shade at both Kiffin’s Ole Miss and DeBoer’s Alabama for a while, implying that his Gamecocks deserve a playoff spot more.

According to Jordan Kaye’s X post, Shane Beamer stated, “We told our teammates the very first night that Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, chose us. They could have chose any team in the NCCA, any team, Alabama, Ole Miss, any of those teams. They had their choice, and they chose the University of South Carolina to be here.

So, why South Carolina? They were on a hot streak, having won six straight games, including a big win over Clemson. The HC has attempted to argue that even though his team has lost to the Rebels and Bama, they are now playing better football, and he believes that should give them the advantage over the other two SEC teams.

    Article continues below this ad

Through the X post, the HC of SC is basically criticizing the Rebels and Bama because both teams had a 9-3 record and were not given the opportunity to enter the playoffs. However, in addition to that, he also expresses admiration for his own squad.

But before the Citrus Bowl, Beamer made a bold comment to stimulate the local fans. “They didn’t just choose our football team. They chose our fan base. So thank you guys for showing up. And as we told our players, we want to validate that decision. So you guys validated with what y’all do over the next two days. We’re going to do our part to make sure we try to validate it tomorrow as well,” said the head coach. Along with that, he mentioned, “We plan to make one heck of a data point tomorrow.”

And to get the fans even more excited, the third-year coach reminds them of South Carolina’s significant victories this season. They had some amazing moments during the 2024 football season, whether it was the triumph over Texas A&M at home, the game in Kentucky, or the second week in Lexington. It’s also important to remember the exciting win over Missouri as well as the even more remarkable triumph over the upstate squad last month.

Now, the 9-3 SEC team is ready to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. But what exactly was Coach Beamer hinting at when he talked about the game?

What’s Shane Beamer’s take on Illinois?

When SC coach Shane Beamer spoke to local reporters for the last time before the Citrus Bowl at the Rosen Plaza in Orlando, he had nothing but praise for former SEC-turned-Illinois coach Bret Bielema. The seasons of both groups ended with a 9-3 record. The Illini finished November with a 3-0 record, defeating teams like Rutgers, MI State, and Northwestern.

Tuesday’s Cheez-It bowl game between the SEC and the Big 10 will pit South Carolina against Illinois. In preparation for the NFL Draft, SEC Defensive Player of the Year Kyle Kennard will not be playing for the Gamecocks, who have been favorites in their last five games and are 4-1 against betting odds. It’s a homecoming for Illinois, who have 17 Florida players on their roster.

Despite all these, Gamecocks’ coach Beamer only praised the rival, Illinois. He stated, “They’re a good football team. They won nine football games. They’re in a league where they got four birds in the college football playoff as well, and they lost the two playoff teams. We’ve got a big challenge tomorrow.”

Undoubtedly a formidable task! The Bowl game was the consolation prize for the Gamecocks after the playoffs snub. And now they’re ready to see if they can bring home the trophy. Will Shane Beamer’s squad come out swinging against Illinois?

South Carolina’s Shane Beamer Takes Subtle Shot at Alabama and Ole Miss With Blunt Citrus Bowl Take

In a recent press conference, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer didn’t hold back when discussing the upcoming Citrus Bowl matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ole Miss Rebels.

When asked about facing two powerhouse SEC teams in the bowl game, Beamer didn’t mince his words. “We’re not intimidated by anyone,” he stated. “We may not have the same flashy offense as Ole Miss or the storied history of Alabama, but we’re a team that plays with heart and grit.”

Many saw Beamer’s comments as a subtle jab at Alabama and Ole Miss, who are known for their high-powered offenses and strong traditions. Beamer’s confidence in his team’s ability to compete at a high level against these tough opponents was evident in his words.

As the Gamecocks prepare to face Alabama and Ole Miss in the Citrus Bowl, it’s clear that Beamer and his team are ready to prove themselves on the national stage. And if his comments are any indication, they won’t back down from a challenge, no matter how daunting it may seem.

CELEBRATION, Fla. – South Carolina coach Shane Beamer met with reporters on Friday afternoon, after the team wrapped up its first full practice at Celebration High School.

There were a handful of pertinent topics for Beamer to discuss, including offensive coordinator Mike Shula, center Vershon Lee and incoming transfer quarterback Air Noland.

It’s final: Shula will call plays for South Carolina against Illinois on Dec. 31. Dowell Loggains, who spent the last two seasons as offensive coordinator, is now the head coach at Appalachian State.

Because Loggains was away for the team for so long, Beamer decided to move forward with Shula calling plays. Shula, of course, has already been hired as the team’s offensive coordinator for the 2025 season.

“Dowell is not with us. He won’t be with us. Mike is the offensive coordinator and will be calling everything in the game. … I just felt like the longer it went, the more Dowell was away from Columbia, the less beneficial it was for both sides to call (the game),” Beamer said. “Ever since we found out we were playing Illinois, coach Shula and the rest of the offensive staff has been putting the game plan together. Dowell hasn’t been in Columbia.”

Beamer added, “(Shula) has had a month to go back in the archives,” Beamer said. “Illinois can look at mid-2000’s Alabama offense. They can look at the Cam Newton Carolina Panthers offense. There’s about one thing a day where I got to go to him and ask, ‘What is this? I don’t know what this word means.’ And it’s something they’ve put in. He’s taken it and run. He and the rest of the staff will do a great job with it.”

    On Lee…

“Vershon is fine. He’s a little under the weather. Just felt like it was best to just keep him the heck away from everybody else, so he has been in his own room at the hotel. He rode over here separately,” Beamer said. “I asked him if he’d ever heard of the Michael Jordan flu game versus the Jazz. He’s a basketball guy and said he had.  But he’ll be fine. He just woke up today and did not feel well, so we just thought it was best to keep him away from everybody. But he’ll be fine for game day.”

    On Noland…

“Didn’t promise Air anything but the opportunity to compete. Didn’t promise him the backup job. Nothing,” Beamer said. “He saw a situation where he saw an opportunity to learn under LaNorris (Sellers) and also learn under coach Shula. Mike Shula, I don’t mean to speak for Air, but he was a big attraction to him, coach Shula’s background. I did not know Air. Obviously, knew of him coming out of high school. Did not know him personally. Was really impressed with he and his family when they were down (in Columbia) last weekend. He spent two days with us and walked around with a notebook, literally took notes on every single thing we were talking to him about, so he’s very mature and very professional.”

In October, Beamer said the staff notified Cutter Woods there was a chance they would sign two high school quarterbacks in the 2025 recruiting class.

“It didn’t quite work out. There were some guys who wanted to come in the end, but we just didn’t feel like they were a great fit for us,” Beamer said.

Shane Beamer, head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks, recently provided some updates on his offensive coordinator plans for the upcoming Citrus Bowl, as well as updates on the status of key players Vershon Lee and Air Noland.

Beamer announced that he will be taking on a more hands-on role in the offensive play-calling for the Citrus Bowl, as the team looks to bounce back from a tough end to the regular season. While Beamer did not officially name an interim offensive coordinator, he did express confidence in his ability to lead the offense in the bowl game.

In terms of player updates, Beamer confirmed that wide receiver Vershon Lee will be available for the Citrus Bowl after missing the last few games of the regular season due to injury. Lee is a key playmaker for the Gamecocks and his presence on the field will be crucial for the team’s success in the bowl game.

Additionally, Beamer provided an update on quarterback Air Noland, who has been dealing with a shoulder injury. Beamer stated that Noland has been progressing well in his recovery and is expected to be ready to play in the Citrus Bowl.

Overall, Gamecock fans can look forward to a strong offensive game plan led by Shane Beamer, with key players like Vershon Lee and Air Noland ready to make an impact in the Citrus Bowl.

  • Shane Beamer can point to one moment when it all turned around for South Carolina

Shane Beamer can point to one moment when it all turned around for South Carolina

In his four years of coaching at South Carolina, this is the best season head coach Shane Beamer has had with the Gamecocks, but it certainly didn’t seem that would be the case early on. Just six games into the season, fans were searching for what Shane Beamer’s buyout was and if it was worth it to send him packing.

At that point, South Carolina was 3-3 and had just lost to Alabama and currently sat a 3-3 on the season with the hope of making the College Football Playoff at an all-time low. It felt like nothing could go right, especially in the big games, as the three losses all came to ranked opponents. The Alabama game was an especially tough loss as the Gamecocks held a good lead and turnovers were the ultimate downfall for this young team.

After that game on Wednesday, Shane Beamer sat down with the leaders of every position group, just like he did after each game, to talk about their concerns. Looking back on it now, Beamer admits that is where is all changed for South Carolina this season.

“Talk about things that are on my mind and talk about things that are on their mind,” Beamer said. “I usually start each meeting off with, ‘what’s on y’all’s minds?’ and they didn’t say a word other than ‘win out, there’s no other option.”

Clearly, the players knew what had to be done, and Beamer knew that too, but it didn’t matter how much he believed it, the guys on the fields needed to believe it. It was easy to say but to accomplish it was going to be a whole different story.

“Once one of them said it, they all agreed. Win out. I said, ‘OK, that’s great to say, but there’s some things that we have to perform better,” Beamer said. “We have to coach better and play better than what we’ve been doing in some areas for that to happen.’ They committed to it and they’ve been on a mission since then as well to not just say it, but be about it.”

All South Carolina had to do was take things one game at a time, and they were able to bounce back big against a struggling Oklahoma team in a game that was over by halftime. After that, it was just coming together each week and believing they had the chance to win in any game.

The Gamecocks ended up finishing the regular season on a six-game win streak with ranked wins over Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Clemson to close out the season. Now South Carolina will go for their 10th win of the season in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against No. 10 Illinois.

It may not be the College Football Playoff, but the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl is one of the biggest none New Year Six bowl games that picks the best SEC team not in the playoff, and they didn’t pick Alabama or Ole Miss, but they selected South Carolina.

Shane Beamer can point to one moment when it all turned around for South Carolina: the Gamecocks’ thrilling 40-17 upset victory over the then-undefeated and third-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on October 9th, 2021.

This game marked a turning point for South Carolina’s season, as they entered the matchup as heavy underdogs against one of the top teams in the country. However, Beamer and his team never wavered in their belief that they could pull off the upset.

The Gamecocks came out firing on all cylinders, dominating on both sides of the ball and showcasing a level of grit and determination that had been missing in previous seasons. Quarterback Luke Doty had a career day, throwing for 255 yards and two touchdowns, while the defense held Georgia’s high-powered offense in check all game.

The victory over Georgia not only provided a much-needed confidence boost for the Gamecocks, but it also served as a statement win that put the rest of the SEC on notice. South Carolina went on to finish the season with a 7-6 record, including a bowl win over North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with in the SEC, and their win over Georgia will be remembered as the moment when it all turned around for South Carolina.
