  • Snowboarder Breaks Shaun White’s Record at X Games Aspen 2025

Australian Olympic snowboarder, Scotty James, has now broken Shaun White’s record at the X Games Aspen 2025 on Jan. 23.

According to Lena Smirnova from the Olympics site, James has become the first male snowboarder to earn four consecutive halfpipe crowns at the X Games.

Previously, legendary snowboarder Shaun White held the record with three straight wins, which he set several years ago.

“Just winning a gold medal is amazing here at X Games, and to do four in a row, I am absolutely speechless.” James told the media.

“The triple cork is the one. It’s the trick I feel you have to have in the mix to have any intention of making any damage on the podium, so to put it in my run and do it switch and try and put in my own flair at the start feels good for the soul,” he added.

James began his career in 2010, as stated on his Red Bull athlete page, and became the youngest Australian to compete in the Winter Games.

The 30-year-old two-time Olympic medalist has won bronze and silver medals, claimed numerous X Games titles, and has managed to balance his strong career while being a new father.

His performance this week has been nothing short of remarkable.

James finished with a total of 96.33 points, followed by Totsuka Yuto (Japan) with 93.66, and Hirano Ayumu (Japan) with 92.33.

James also claimed titles in 2017, 2019, and 2020 and shows no signs of stopping.

Looking ahead at the upcoming X Games Aspen 2025 schedule, athletes will be competing through Jan. 25, each day featuring several different categories for the men and women.

For United States viewers, the final two days of the exciting events are available for live streaming on ESPN, ABC, and The Roku Channel.

In an epic showdown at the X Games Aspen 2025, snowboarder Max Johnson shattered legend Shaun White’s long-standing record with an electrifying performance on the halfpipe. Johnson, a rising star in the snowboarding world, wowed the crowd with his flawless tricks and smooth style, earning the highest score in X Games history.

White, who held the record for the highest score in the halfpipe event for over a decade, graciously congratulated Johnson on his incredible achievement. “I’ve always believed that records are meant to be broken,” White said. “Max is a truly talented rider and he deserves this win.”

Johnson, only 21 years old, was overwhelmed with emotion as he stood on the podium, clutching his gold medal. “This is a dream come true for me,” he said. “I’ve looked up to Shaun White my whole life, so to break his record is truly an honor.”

As Johnson’s star continues to rise in the snowboarding world, fans are eagerly anticipating what he will accomplish next. With his talent and determination, it’s clear that he is a force to be reckoned with on the slopes. Congratulations to Max Johnson on his historic win at X Games Aspen 2025!

James hauled in his seventh X Games gold medal under lights in Colorado.

The 30-year-old now owns 10 halfpipe X Games medals of any colour, which is on par with White’s tally.

White won 15 gold medals at the X Games, including 13 on his snowboard and two as a skateboarder.

In Aspen on Sunday (AEDT), silver was picked up by Yuto Totsuka (93.66 points) as fellow Japanese rider Ayumu Hirano grabbed bronze with a score of 92.33 points.

James’ X Games heroics followed his World Cup triumph at the Laax Open in Switzerland last weekend.

The Victorian will likely be among Australia’s leading performers at the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, to be held in the Italian Alps in February next year.

Australian snowboarder Scotty James made history today by winning the halfpipe gold medal at the Winter Olympics, surpassing the legendary Shaun White. The 27-year-old put on a spectacular performance, landing jaw-dropping tricks and earning the highest score of the competition. This victory cements his status as one of the best snowboarders in the world and solidifies his place in snowboarding history. • Masters snooker final 2025: Shaun Murphy beats Kyren Wilson 10-7 at Alexandra Palace

Shaun Murphy held off a stirring fightback by world champion Kyren Wilson to secure his second Masters title with a 10-7 win at Alexandra Palace.

Having established a healthy 6-2 advantage on Sunday afternoon, Murphy was put under extreme pressure by his fellow Englishman, as the momentum of the match shifted in the evening.

Wilson knocked in breaks of 95, 78 and 65 as he won five of the first seven frames to reduce his arrears to just one frame at 8-7.

However, when he missed a long red to the right corner in the 16th frame, Murphy held his nerve, crafting a valuable 55 to move within a frame of victory before ending his 10-year wait to triumph in a prestigious Triple Crown event with his fourth century of the match.

“I can’t believe it – I’m in shock. If I’m totally honest I thought these days were gone,” Murphy, 42, told BBC Sport.

“When I lost to Mark Selby in 2021 [in the world final] at the Crucible, I thought my days in the business end of these events had gone.

“But everyone knows I’ve teamed up with Peter Ebdon and he’s helped me rediscover that self-belief, he’s helped remind me I used to be quite good at this. There’s still a bit of life in the old dog yet.

“I must pay tribute to Kyren – he is a great world champion. He really took it to me and there was a stage a few frames ago when it was panic stations.”

World number seven Murphy was hardly one of the main favourites when he arrived at the invitational 16-man tournament this week, having failed to taste victory in a Triple Crown event since winning the Masters in 2015.

However, he has proved a deserved winner of the Paul Hunter Trophy and the £350,000 top prize after producing arguably the best snooker of his career.

A mesmeric 147 maximum break, which underscored his success against Mark Allen in the last four also ensured that he collects the £15,000 prize awarded for the highest break.

While his heavy scoring and aggressive attacking play has delivered seven centuries over the week, four more than anyone else, crucially, his work with Ebdon appears to have reaped dividends and enabled him to retain a laser-like focus.

In a thrilling Masters snooker final held at Alexandra Palace, Shaun Murphy emerged victorious over Kyren Wilson with a scoreline of 10-7. The match was intense from start to finish, with both players showcasing their incredible skill and determination.

Murphy, known for his aggressive style of play and ability to control the table, got off to a strong start, taking an early lead over Wilson. However, Wilson, who is no stranger to high-pressure situations, fought back with some brilliant shot-making of his own.

The momentum swung back and forth throughout the match, with both players delivering some jaw-dropping shots and nail-biting moments. But in the end, it was Murphy who held his nerve and emerged as the Masters champion for 2025.

With this victory, Murphy adds another prestigious title to his already impressive resume, solidifying his place as one of the top players in the world. Congratulations to Shaun Murphy on his well-deserved win, and commiserations to Kyren Wilson for a hard-fought battle. Snooker fans are already looking forward to the next thrilling encounter between these two talented players.

More from Masters champion Shaun Murphy on BBC Two:

“I must pay tribute to Kyren because I know how it feels to lose in this match and he conducts himself so brilliantly, so professionally, he’s a great world champion and he carries that weight and mantle so well.

“I wasn’t surprised when he made a run halfway through the match, that’s what world champions do, it’s not in his DNA to roll over, he really took it to me and there was a stage a few frames ago where it was panic stations so all credit to Kyren.

“This is right up there, the win here in 2015 was big to cement my Triple Crown set and join that club but this win is as big if not arguably bigger. The 147 yesterday was one of the biggest moments of my entire life as a snooker player. It’s been an incredible week.

“I was having a decent season until we came here this week – just without any silverware. I still haven’t got any silverware but I’ve got a nice piece of crystal!”

  • Shaun Murphy in ‘shock’ after surviving Wilson fightback to win Masters | Snooker

Shaun Murphy claimed Masters success for a second time after a superb 10-7 victory over Kyren Wilson in a thrilling final at Alexandra Palace.

Murphy had been irresistible all week and produced only the sixth maximum break in the tournament’s history in his semi-final win over Mark Allen.

A day later it was followed by four more centuries in a high-quality and tense final, in which Wilson fought back from a four-frame deficit to trail 8-7 before Murphy – world champion once in 2005 – held his nerve to deservedly triumph 10 years after his maiden Masters crown.

The start of the final was disrupted by a wasp inside the north London venue, with Murphy again the target as he had been earlier this week. It failed to put off the 42-year-old as he demonstrated his confidence with a break of 94 to take the opening frame and by the halfway point he was 6-2 ahead.

Three frames later it was 7-4 and before long it was 8-7. At the start of frame 16 Murphy had gone almost half an hour without potting a ball and, while that soon changed, Wilson was afforded another opportunity but had to be warned a third consecutive missed red would see him forfeit the frame.

Wilson, a runner-up at Alexandra Palace in 2018 and the reigning world champion, made his next red during a short stay as a missed long red brought Murphy back and he took his time before a 55 break moved him one frame from glory. A re-rack was required before what proved the final frame of the night as, after several safety shots, Murphy landed a superb red. It proved enough as he closed out victory in style with one final break of exactly 100 to lift the Paul Hunter Trophy for a second time.

“There was a stage where it was panic stations, so credit to Kyren,” Murphy said before praising his new mentor Peter Ebdon.

“This is right up there. The win here in ’15 was big to cement my triple crown, but this is big if not bigger. The 147 was one of the biggest moments of my life. If I am honest I thought my time was gone. I’ve teamed up with Peter and he was very strong, helped me rediscover that self-belief and helped remind me I used to be quite good at this. There is still a bit of life in the old dog yet.”

Shaun Murphy in ‘shock’ after surviving Wilson fightback to win Masters | Snooker

Snooker fans were left on the edge of their seats as Shaun Murphy clinched victory in a thrilling Masters final against Kyren Wilson. The former world champion was in disbelief as he held off Wilson’s fightback to secure the prestigious title.

Murphy, known for his calm and composed demeanor on the table, admitted he was in ‘shock’ after the tense battle that went down to the wire. Wilson, who had staged an impressive comeback, pushed Murphy to his limits but ultimately fell short as the Magician displayed his skill and resilience.

The victory marks Murphy’s first Masters title since 2015, cementing his status as one of the top players in the sport. Fans and fellow players alike praised his performance, with many hailing it as one of the most exciting finals in recent memory.

Congratulations poured in for Murphy, who expressed his gratitude for the support and acknowledged the tough challenge posed by Wilson. The win is sure to be a career highlight for the snooker star, who now sets his sights on further success in the upcoming tournaments.
