  • Sherri Papini’s Alleged Ex Shauhin Davari Joins Survivor 48 Cast


    Shauhin Davari, who allegedly dated Sherri Papini before her kidnapping hoax, is now a cast member on Survivor.

    Davari, 38, is one of the season 48 contestants, with the full cast list being announced by CBS on Wednesday, January 29. He is best known for past comments about dating Papini, 42, before she made headlines for a kidnapping hoax. Papini disappeared on November 2, 2016 after going for a jog in her California neighborhood and resurfaced 22 days later, which is when she claimed she had been beaten and branded by captors.

    As new details emerged following her return, Papini was ultimately arrested in 2022 for orchestrating her abduction. She pleaded guilty to a federal judge later that year and was sentenced to 18 months in jail for committing mail fraud and lying to a federal officer about being kidnapped.

    “[I am] so sorry for the pain I’ve caused my family, my friends, all the good people who needlessly suffered because of my story and those who worked so hard to try to help me,” Papini said in a statement at the time about how “deeply ashamed” she was of her actions. “I will work the rest of my life to make amends for what I have done.”

    Papini was also ordered to pay more than $300,000 in restitution for losses incurred by the California Victim Compensation Board, the Social Security Administration, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She was released from prison in August 2023.

    Davari, for his part, called Papini a “compulsive liar” while discussing their alleged romance in 2022. (Papini didn’t address his comments at the time.)

    “I was like, there’s no way [she was kidnapped]. She’s fine. I promise you, she’s fine. There’s just no chance that she got kidnapped,” he told Inside Edition. “She would not talk to you for three or four days, and then all of a sudden there’d be some fantastical story about what happened.”

    Davari spoke out to shut down rumors he was the ex-boyfriend Papini planned the hoax with, who turned out to be James Reyes. The case recently became a topic of conversation again when Hulu released Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini in June 2024.

    Sherri’s now-ex-husband Keith Papini and several of her family members and loved ones participated in the docuseries. Law enforcement also broke down how they ultimately pieced together the clues that pointed to a kidnapping hoax.

    One month after Perfect Wife started streaming, Investigation Discovery announced an upcoming docuseries in which Sherri will speak out for the first time about the controversy. The show will debut in 2025.

While many perspectives have been told, there is one point of view that the world hasn’t heard and that is from Sherri herself,” President of ID Jason Sarlanis said in a statement in June 2024. “Investigation Discovery will present a new side of Sherri Papini’s case — told by her in her own words.”

  • Man Who Claimed He Dated Sherri Papini Now a Cast Member on ‘Survivor 48’


    A man who says he dated Sherri Papini, describing her in a 2022 interview as a “compulsive liar,” is now on the cast of Survivor 48.

    Shauhin Davari, 38, was announced as one of the contestants on the show set to premiere next month, Entertainment Weekly reported. 

    Davari, a debate professor from East Bay, Calif., told Inside Edition in 2022 that he previously dated Papini. In 2016, Papini became a household name after she disappeared for 22 days during a jog in Redding, Calif. She was found on the street with bruises on her face and had been “branded,” her husband Keith Papini said at the time.

    Papini claimed she had been kidnapped by two Hispanic women.

    However, a years-long investigation found that she had faked her own kidnapping and was hiding in an ex-boyfriend’s house; that man later told police that she had asked him to hit her. When he refused, she bruised herself.

    While this revelation shocked many, including her own husband, Davari was not surprised, he told Inside Edition after her 2022 arrest.

    “I was like, there’s no way. She’s fine. I promise you she’s fine. There’s just no chance that she got kidnapped,” he said.

    He claimed Papini was a “compulsive liar” — and he had his suspicions when he first heard about her kidnapping that later turned out to be a hoax. 

    “She would not talk to you for three or four days, and then all of a sudden there’d be some fantastical story about what happened,” Davari claimed.

    At the time, Davari said he was speaking out to dispel rumors that he was the ex-boyfriend and Papini had colluded with him.

    “Running a speech and debate team requires working with all different people. Motivating them toward a common goal, while working socially to put your team in position to succeed,” he said, per EW.

    He also said one of his pet peeves is being interrupted: “I love the sound of my voice.”

    He listed his inspirations as his students, his mother and brother.

    Survivor 48 is set to premiere on Feb. 26, on CBS.

    A contestant on the new season of “Survivor” allegedly dated Sherri Papini, the California woman who was sentenced to 18 months in prison for faking her kidnapping in Sept. 2022.

    Shauhin Davari was announced as one of the 18 people competing on “Survivor 48,” premiering Feb. 26, by CBS on Wednesday.

    Davari is a 38-year-old debate professor who lives in Costa Mesa, Calif.

    But the most shocking fact about Davari is his past connection to Papini.

    In 2016, Papini disappeared for 22 days while allegedly on a jog in Redding, Calif. When she resurfaced, she claimed she was kidnapped by two masked Hispanic women.

    However, after a years-long investigation, authorities discovered that Papini orchestrated the kidnapping with her ex-boyfriend. She was arrested in 2022 and released from prison in Aug. 2023.

    After the truth about Papini came out, Davari revealed in a 2022 interview with Inside Edition that they allegedly dated when she was 20 and he was 15.

    “She’s a compulsive liar,” Davari said about Papini. “She would not talk to you for three or four days, and then all of a sudden there’d be some fantastical story about what happened.”

    Davari claimed Papini told several lies when they dated, including that she surfed and had a heart condition. He also said he didn’t believe the initial news that she was kidnapped.

    “I was like, there’s no way. She’s fine. I promise you she’s fine. There’s just no chance that she got kidnapped,” he said.

    Davari also clarified to Inside Edition that he wasn’t the ex-boyfriend who helped Papini commit the kidnapping hoax.

    To pull off the crime, one of Papini’s exes, a man named James Reyes, helped her escape her home in Redding to hide in Costa Mesa – 600 miles south of her home – for three weeks.

    When she reappeared, she told police that two Hispanic women kidnapped her at gunpoint and tortured her while in captivity.

    But her lies fell apart after investigators found DNA on a piece of clothing that would lead back to Reyes, who dropped her off in Woodland when she decided to reappear.

    In March 2022, Papini was arrested and charged with making false statements to federal agents and mail fraud. A month later, she formally pleaded guilty, admitting her kidnapping claims were a hoax.

    Papini’s case was explored in the 2024 Hulu documentary series “Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini,” which featured interviews with Papini’s husband, Keith, who filed for divorce and for sole custody of their kids after she pled guilty.
