  • 3 Undeserving players who shockingly made the All-Star Game over Kyrie Irving

As February comes to a close the Dallas Mavericks are slowly getting their roster back toward a place of sustainability, as Dallas has dealt with many injuries and illnesses that have derailed the trajectory of their season. The Mavericks have surmised some solid wins in this recent stretch, but they have a lot more ground to cover if they want to get back to a top four seed in the Western Conference like they were before Christmas, and it’s crucial that Dallas builds some momentum heading into the All-Star break.

There’s a variety of trades the Mavericks could explore to upgrade their roster ahead of the February 6 trade deadline, as recent injuries to Maxi Kleber and Dereck Lively II have boosted the need for a backup big man or bigger-bodied wing. Dallas recently signed Kylor Kelley to a two-way deal to mend their lack of big man depth a little bit, and the likes of Kessler Edwards and Olivier-Maxence Prosper are proving they are rotation-caliber NBA wings recently, but the Mavericks could still definitely use some depth in these areas to sure up their roster ahead of the postseason.

While making a trade before the deadline is possibly one of Dallas’ top priorities over the next week, Dallas’ main priority is coming out of All-Star break is likely to get fully healthy, and they are coming closer to that goal as superstar Luka Doncic will make a return to action soon.

Unfortunately for Doncic, he’s missed one too many games this season to have a legitimate case to make the All-Star team, as he wasn’t announced as a reserve or starter for the Western Conference this season. However, co-star Kyrie Irving is having one of his best statistical seasons in years and has only missed 10 games through 48 contests this season, yet Irving wasn’t selected as an All-Star when the reserves were announced yesterday.

3 Players Kyrie Irving deserved an All-Star spot over

It’s obvious that Irving got snubbed because Dallas’ record (26-22) as well as the fact that they are the eighth seed didn’t seem fit enough to coaches who selected the reserves, but Irving is more than deserving of making the All-Star team this season.

Irving has led Dallas valiantly through all the hiccups in their lineup this season, and he’s proved to be as durable as ever in his 14th NBA season. Even on a case-by-case basis, Irving clears a few of the names that were selected as Western Conference All-Stars this season, even though there are clearly some players who are on teams with better records than Irving.

    3. James Harden

First off, the most glaring player that Irving shouldn’t have been snubbed for is James Harden, as Harden has played in a few more games than Irving and the Clippers are the sixth seed in the West, but Irving is having a wildly more efficient season. Through 44 games this season, Harden is currently averaging 21.7 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game on 39.9/35.2/88.8 shooting splits.

Harden has stood the test of time well this season for the Clippers and has them at the sixth seed in the West despite Kawhi Leonard missing a ton of time to start the season, but Dallas has encountered far more adversity and Irving has been more crucial to Dallas’ success than Harden has been for the Clippers’. Irving is currently averaging 24.2 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game on 48.2/41.9/89.7 shooting splits, and he’s not turning the ball over 4.6 times per game like Harden is, so it’s clear who the coaches should’ve gone with even though the Clippers have a better record than Dallas.

    2. Alperen Sengun

Alperen Sengun and the Houston Rockets are surging past all initial expectations this season, as the dynamic big man is currently averaging 19.1 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game for the West’s second seed. Given the Rockets are the second seed, it was to be expected that the coaches would give them some representation for All-Star weekend in San Francisco, but that doesn’t make Sengun more deserving of an All-Star appearance than Irving.

Sengun is a great young big man who has some Jokic-esque offensive qualities, but the Rockets have an extremely talented roster across the board, and he hasn’t been near as vital to their success as Irving has been for Dallas. The Mavericks wouldn’t even be in the playoff picture much less the eighth seed if Irving didn’t carry this team over the past month with Doncic down, and Irving has been nearly as efficient from the field compared to Sengun this season even though Sengun is a center and Irving is a point guard, so Irving clearly should’ve been selected ahead of Sengun.

    1. Jalen Williams

Jalen Williams has commanded far more attention on the offensive end this season, as he’s ascended to one of the best pure three-level scorers in the league over the past season and a half or so. Williams is currently averaging 21.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Mavericks have seen just how dynamic Williams can be on multiple occasions recently, including their playoff series versus the Thunder in the second round last season.

With the Thunder being the first seed in the West, Williams was easily the most deserving player to make the All-Star team out of anyone on this list, but he’s still not more deserving than Irving. Williams hasn’t taken the step from star to superstar quite yet, as he’s still not an expert at navigating double teams and more deceptive defensive coverages, but he’s certainly getting there and will be there soon.

Irving has been more dynamic offensively this season for the Mavericks and has been put in a more burdensome position compared to Williams though, and it’s objective to say Williams probably couldn’t do the same thing if he was in Irving’s position with Dallas’ beat up roster over this past month. Williams may be more deserving than Irving for All-Star candidacy for seasons to come, but the coaches should’ve waited one more year to vote for Williams as an All-Star reserve ahead of Irving.

    1. Ben Simmons – While Simmons is a talented player, his lack of a consistent jump shot and scoring ability should have kept him from being selected over Kyrie Irving. Irving is a proven scorer and clutch performer, making him a more deserving All-Star.
    2. Jaylen Brown – Brown has had a solid season with the Boston Celtics, but his numbers do not compare to Irving’s. Irving has been a key player for the Brooklyn Nets and has shown time and time again that he can perform at an elite level. Brown’s selection over Irving is certainly surprising.
    3. Zach LaVine – LaVine has had a breakout season with the Chicago Bulls, but his selection over Irving is questionable. Irving is a perennial All-Star and has proven himself on the biggest stage, while LaVine is still establishing himself as a top player in the league. Irving’s snub in favor of LaVine is a shock to many fans and analysts.

  • Texans Shockingly Fire Team President Greg Grissom: Report

The Houston Texans are making a massive change in the organization. It has been announced that the organization has fired team president Greg Grissom.

Ian Rapoport reported on the fire but has officially changed the language to reflect that Grissom and the Texans have mutually parted ways.

After being bounced out of the playoffs in back-to-back Divisional Round appearances, it appears the team was comfortable shaking things up regarding a high front-office level.

Grissom has served in the role as the Texans president since March 2021, according to his LinkedIn page. He has also spent the last 23 years with the organization, serving in many roles such as corporate development manager, director of corporate development, and senior vice president of corporate development.

After spending the last 23 years with the Texans, Grissom will now presumably look for another role in the NFL world.

The Texans also released a statement on Grissom being let go.

“The Houston Texans have amicably parted ways with Team President Greg Grissoom, the club announced on Thursday.

“We want to thank Greg for his contributions to the organization,” said Chair and CEO Cal McNair, “Since he became our team president in 2023, Greg helped me implement numerous initiatives to help our organization fearlessly and evolve and grow in many ways, which we are thankful for. We wish Greg and his family all the best in the future. We will provide updates regarding the team’s next president in the coming days.”

“Leading the Houston Texans business operations has been the opportunity of a lifetime,” Grissom said. “After almost 25 years with the Texans, including the last four as President, I feel its the right time to embrace new challenges and opportunity. I want to thank Janice McNair and Cal and Hannah McNair for their support and the opportunity to help lead this organization. Over the past four years, I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished for our fans and for our business. Most of all, I am thankful for the relationships I’ve built with my Texans teammates, everyone at NRG Park, corporate and civic leaders across Houston and Harris County, and, of course, our passionate Texans fans. These connections have been the most rewarding part of my time here and will always hold a special place in my life. I am grateful for my time with the Texans and look forward to what’s next.”

The Texans will now look for a new team president to lead the organization moving forward. After the success the team has had with DeMeco Ryans as head coach and a strong young talent in C.J. Stroud, Houston might have no trouble at all finding a new front-office leader.

In a shocking turn of events, the Houston Texans have reportedly fired their team president, Greg Grissom. This unexpected decision has sent shockwaves through the organization and the NFL community as a whole.

Grissom, who has been with the Texans since 2019, was instrumental in overseeing the team’s business operations and was seen as a key figure in the front office. His sudden departure has left many wondering what prompted the decision and what implications it may have for the future of the franchise.

The Texans have yet to release an official statement regarding Grissom’s firing, leaving fans and analysts speculating about the reasons behind the move. Some believe it could be related to the team’s recent struggles on the field, while others suggest there may have been internal conflicts or disagreements within the organization.

Regardless of the reasons, Grissom’s departure marks a significant shake-up for the Texans and raises questions about the direction the team will take moving forward. As more details emerge, fans will be eagerly awaiting to see how this decision will impact the team’s future success.

  • The shockingly common items barred from cruise ships — that could get you banned for life

Don’t rock the boat — you should avoid bringing these items on your next cruise, an expert warns.

Gary Bembridge, an avid travel and cruise extraordinaire, revealed the common items that are barred from popular liners.

The first, he explained, are surge protectors, extension cords or “anything allowing multiple plugs.”

Before boarding the boat, cruise liner guests should ensure they don’t pack any restricted items that could be confiscated — or worse, get them booted. nikolas_jkd – stock.adobe.com

“All cruise lines ban any extension cord with a surge protector feature,” he said, per The Mirror, adding that the cables are a fire hazard.

Bluetooth speakers are also not allowed on certain cruises, like Carnival ships.

“They have said that if any passenger tries to bring them on board at embarkation or at a port, they’ll be confiscated, and if cruisers buy a Bluetooth speaker in the on board shops, they will be held until the end of the cruise,” Bembridge explained.

“I am sure it has really been done as it is annoying and intrusive having people playing loud music at the pools, around the deck, on their balconies and in their cabins,” he noted, adding that he was “devastated” to learn of the restriction because he listens to white noise while sleeping.

Wi-Fi hotspots, routers and satellite dishes are also barred from boarding the boat — which one guest learned the hard way on a Carnival cruise.

YouTuber Richard Shillington tried to slink a Starlink mini dish out to sea and it was confiscated, Bembridge said.

CBD oil is also banned from cruise liners, despite its widespread medicinal use, according to Bembridge, who recalled the time one Carnival cruise guest was “denied boarding with no refund” after CBD gummies were discovered in their luggage. Not to mention, she was banned for life.

According to Carnival Cruise Line’s list of restricted items, drugs, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, flammable substances, hard liquor and sharp items like knives, scissors and open razors are among the banned belongings.

One of the most unusual items that is barred from the boat are paper pineapples, which are used to denote that the couples occupying their suite are open to swingers.

“I’ve never quite understood the hit-and-miss nature of advertising using that on regular cruises, when there are entire ship charters dedicated to swingers run by groups like such as Bliss Cruises which seems a surer thing,” Bembridge said.

Cruise ships are a popular vacation option for many people, offering a luxurious escape to exotic destinations. However, there are some items that are surprisingly common but are actually barred from being brought on board. Here are some items that could get you banned for life from a cruise ship:

    1. Weapons: This may seem obvious, but many people still try to bring firearms, knives, or other weapons on board. Cruise ships have strict security measures in place to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members.

    2. Illegal drugs: Bringing illegal drugs on board a cruise ship is not only dangerous but also against the law. If you are caught with drugs, you could face serious consequences, including being banned from all future cruises.

    3. Flammable liquids: Items like lighter fluid, gasoline, and other flammable liquids are not allowed on cruise ships due to the potential fire hazard they pose. If you are caught with these items, you could be banned from cruising for life.

    4. Drones: While drones can capture stunning aerial footage of your cruise, they are not allowed on board due to safety and privacy concerns. Using a drone on a cruise ship could get you banned from future cruises.

    5. Animals: Bringing pets or other animals on a cruise ship is not allowed, as it can disrupt the experience for other passengers and pose health risks. If you are caught with an animal on board, you could be banned for life.

    6. Large amounts of alcohol: While most cruise ships allow passengers to bring a limited amount of alcohol on board, bringing excessive amounts could get you banned. Cruise lines have strict policies on alcohol consumption and bringing large quantities on board is a red flag.

It’s important to familiarize yourself with the cruise line’s policies and rules before embarking on your vacation. By avoiding these common items, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable cruise experience without the risk of being banned for life.

  • Dodgers Shockingly DFA Former Top Prospect Diego Cartaya

Dodgers Shockingly DFA Former Top Prospect Diego Cartaya

The Dodgers have made the decision to designate former top prospect Diego Cartaya for assignment. The move comes after the team signed Hyeseong Kim to a deal.

The Dodgers needed to clear room on the 40-man roster for Kim, who was officially signed to a three-year, $12.5 million deal with a two-year club option for 2028 and 2029. Designating Cartaya for assignment comes as a surprise, though.

Cartaya, 23, was once considered the top prospect in the Dodgers organization.

    This article will be updated…

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a shocking move today, designating former top prospect Diego Cartaya for assignment.

Cartaya, once considered one of the top catching prospects in all of baseball, has struggled to live up to the high expectations placed upon him since signing with the Dodgers as an international free agent in 2018.

Despite showing flashes of potential in the minor leagues, Cartaya has been unable to put it all together at the major league level. His struggles at the plate and behind the dish have led to the Dodgers making the difficult decision to DFA him.

It’s a tough break for Cartaya, who was once seen as a cornerstone of the Dodgers’ future. However, baseball can be a cruel game, and sometimes talented prospects just don’t pan out.

It will be interesting to see if another team takes a chance on Cartaya and tries to unlock the potential that made him such a highly regarded prospect in the first place. Only time will tell what the future holds for Diego Cartaya.
