Boston Showing Interest in Forward, Mazzulla Offers Strange Take, More
According to a recent report, the Boston Celtics are interested in acquiring a forward known for their sharpshooting skills before the trade deadline. And they are willing to get rid of a talented up-and-comer to do it.
In the same vein, a new trade proposal has Boston acquiring a guard who used to play for the organization in order to bring the team back to the NBA finals. However, the Celtics may not have the trade assets or financial flexibility to make any kind of trade happen.
Meanwhile, Boston head coach Joe Mazulla has revealed that he wants to completely get rid of halftime in all NBA games, saying that it gives players “an opportunity to escape from the arena.”
Here are some stories to help get you all caught up on everything to do with the Boston Celtics. Click the title to see the entire story:

The Boston sports world is buzzing with rumors of the Celtics showing interest in acquiring a forward before the trade deadline. With the team looking to bolster their roster for a deep playoff run, they have reportedly set their sights on several potential targets. In a surprising turn of events, former Celtics player and current analyst, Bob Mazzulla, offered a strange take on the situation. Mazzulla claimed that the team should focus on developing their young talent rather than making a move for a veteran forward. This opinion has sparked debate among fans and experts alike, with many questioning Mazzulla’s logic.
Despite the controversy, the Celtics front office remains focused on exploring all options to improve the team. With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, it will be interesting to see if Boston pulls the trigger on a deal for a forward or if they follow Mazzulla’s advice and stick with their current roster. GitHub Is Showing the Trump Administration Scrubbing Government Web Pages in Real Time
You can see the specific steps that a government agency is taking to comply with the Trump administration’s policies against diversity, equity, and inclusion on the agency’s GitHub, which shows it frantically deleting and editing various documents, employee handbooks, Slack bots, and job listings across everything the agency touches.
18F is a much-hyped government agency within the General Services Administration that was founded under the Obama Administration after the disastrous rollout of Healthcare.gov. It more or less had the specific goal of attracting Silicon Valley talent to the federal government to help the government innovate and make many of its websites and digital services suck less. It is one of the “cooler” federal agencies, and has open sourced many of its projects on GitHub.
GitHub is a website for open source development that shows changes across different “commits,” or changes to code and documentation. In the first days of the Trump administration, 18F’s commit list is full of change logs detailing the administration’s attempts to destroy the concept of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The changes show that in the last 48 hours, 18F has edited text and wholesale deleted both internal and external web pages about, for example “Inclusive behaviors,” “healthy conflict and constructive feedback,” “DEIA resources,” and “Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.” It deleted a webpage about “psychological safety” (which now 404s) deleted all information about the “DE&I leads” at the agency, as well as language for employees that said “Anyone who has issues or concerns related to inclusion or equity in the 18F engineering chapter should feel empowered to reach out to the DE&I Leads.” It has deleted, in various places, the word “inclusion,” as well as the term “affinity groups.”
It also deleted an internal Slack Bot called “Inclusion Bot,” which is described as being “integrated into Slack and passively listens for words or phrases that have racist, sexist, ableist, or otherwise exclusionary or discriminatory histories or backgrounds. When it hears those words, it privately lets the writer know and offers some suggested alternatives.”
Do you work for the federal government? I would love to hear from you. Using a non-work device, you can message me securely on Signal at +1 202 505 1702. Otherwise, send me an email at jason@404media.co.
It has also notably deleted information intended for improving accessibility for blind and visually impaired employees, which asked employees to use “visual descriptions” when introducing themselves on Zoom meetings.
In a hiring document, the language “Teams should consider factors of equity and complexity of the research when determining compensation for participants on their project” has been changed to “team should consider other factors or complexity of the research.”
The Trump administration has not tried to hide that it is trying to delete web pages and employee information across the government. But seeing the change logs pop up as they’re happening on GitHub shows exactly how these changes are being done and how they’re rolling out.
GitHub Is Showing the Trump Administration Scrubbing Government Web Pages in Real TimeRecently, GitHub, the popular platform for developers to collaborate on code, has been used to track the Trump administration’s efforts to scrub government web pages of information. Users have set up automated scripts to monitor changes to government websites in real time, documenting the removal of data and resources.
This comes amid growing concerns about transparency and accountability in the government. The Trump administration has been accused of deleting or altering information on government websites related to climate change, LGBTQ rights, and other contentious issues.
By using GitHub to track these changes, concerned citizens and activists are able to hold the administration accountable and ensure that important information is not erased or manipulated. This grassroots effort to monitor government actions shows the power of technology in promoting transparency and preserving the public record.
As the Trump administration continues to make changes to government websites, GitHub will likely play an increasingly important role in documenting these actions and keeping the public informed. This innovative use of technology highlights the importance of open-source tools in promoting government accountability and protecting access to information.

Akero Therapeutics Inc. Among patients with baseline and week 96 biopsies, 39% of the 50mg EFX group (p=0.009) demonstrated ≥1 stage improvement in fibrosis with no worsening of MASH, representing a 24% effect size over placebo at 15%
By ITT analysis, with all missing week 96 biopsies treated as failures, 29% of the 50mg EFX group (p=0.031) demonstrated ≥1 stage improvement in fibrosis with no worsening of MASH, representing a 17% effect size over placebo at 12%
Investor webcast at 8:00 am ET Monday, January 27, 2025
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Jan. 27, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Akero Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKRO), a clinical-stage company developing transformational treatments for patients with serious metabolic disease marked by high unmet medical need, today released preliminary topline week 96 results from SYMMETRY, a Phase 2b study evaluating the efficacy and safety of its lead product candidate efruxifermin (EFX) in patients with biopsy-confirmed compensated cirrhosis (F4), Child-Pugh Class A, due to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Among patients with baseline and week 96 biopsies (n=134), 39% of patients treated with 50mg EFX (n=46) (p=0.009) experienced reversal of cirrhosis with no worsening of MASH, compared to 15% for placebo (n=47). In the Intent to Treat (ITT) population (n=181), with all missing week 96 biopsies treated as failures, 29% of patients in the 50mg EFX group (n=63) (p=0.031) experienced reversal of cirrhosis with no worsening of MASH, compared to approximately 12% in the placebo group (n=61).
With more than a doubling of effect size from weeks 36 to 96 in the 50mg group (from 10% to 24%), the SYMMETRY study underscores the benefit of longer EFX treatment for patients with compensated cirrhosis (F4).
In a subgroup of patients with baseline and week 96 biopsies who were not taking GLP-1 at baseline (n=97), 45% in the 50mg EFX group experienced reversal of cirrhosis with no worsening of MASH (n=29) (p=0.009) compared to 17% for placebo (n=36), suggesting that the observed reversal of cirrhosis was not attributable to GLP-1 therapy.
“Until today, we’ve not had the prospect of an effective treatment for compensated cirrhosis due to MASH, which is associated with high rates of short-term morbidity and mortality,” said Mazen Nourredin, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Transplant Hepatologist at Houston Methodist Hospital, and principal investigator for the SYMMETRY study. “Now we have reason to be optimistic about the future potential of EFX as a much-needed treatment for cirrhosis, if approved. I’m so happy for my patients and patients all around the world.”
Akero Therapeutics, a biotechnology company focused on developing innovative treatments for serious metabolic diseases, has announced exciting preliminary topline results from its Phase 2b SYMMETRY study. The study evaluated the efficacy of Akero’s investigational drug in treating compensated cirrhosis (F4) due to metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD).The results of the study showed a statistically significant reversal of compensated cirrhosis at Week 96, as demonstrated by both completer and intent-to-treat (ITT) analyses. This is a major milestone in the field of liver disease treatment, as compensated cirrhosis is a severe and irreversible stage of liver damage that can lead to life-threatening complications if left untreated.
“We are thrilled to see such promising results from our Phase 2b SYMMETRY study,” said John M. Taylor, CEO of Akero Therapeutics. “The reversal of compensated cirrhosis in patients with MAFLD is a significant achievement and represents a potential breakthrough in the treatment of this debilitating disease.”
These findings signal a potential new treatment option for patients with MAFLD and offer hope for those suffering from advanced liver disease. Akero Therapeutics plans to continue investigating the efficacy and safety of its drug in larger clinical trials, with the goal of bringing this promising therapy to patients in need.
Stay tuned for more updates on Akero Therapeutics and the progress of its investigational drug in the treatment of MAFLD.

Los Angeles Clippers guard Norman Powell is one of the most interesting stories in the NBA this season.
Powell is averaging 23.7 points per game on 49.0/44.1/83.2 shooting splits, representing, by far, the best year of his career.
For reference, the former UCLA Bruins star owns a career average of 13 points per game, and while his lifetime percentages (47.1/40.0/82.8) are in line, the fact that he is upholding that efficiency on such higher volume is truly remarkable.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about Powell’s run — other than the fact that he is oddly breaking out at the age of 31 — has been his consistency.
Look at Powell’s numbers in December and January, for example.
Last month, the UCLA product posted 25.6 points a night while shooting 49 percent from the floor and 40.6 percent from 3-point range. Thus far in January, Powell is registering 22.2 points per game while making 48.9 percent of his shots and 40.6 percent of his triples.
So, essentially, Powell’s shooting percentages between December and January are identical.
The San Diego native is showing no signs of slowing down, as he has recorded under 20 points just three times since Dec. 16. That’s a span of 16 games.
Powell was always a decent scorer, as evidenced by the fact that he tallied 19 points per game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Clippers during the 2021-22 campaign (although he played in just 45 games that year).
Still, no one ever expected this from Powell, who had previously just been a reliable complementary scorer.
Powell did a tremendous job of keeping Los Angeles afloat throughout Kawhi Leonard’s absence, and now that Leonard has returned, Powell still hasn’t skipped a beat.
The 6-foot-4 sharpshooter spent four seasons at UCLA between 2011-12 and 2014-15, averaging 9.8 points per game. His best year came during his final campaign with the Bruins, when he logged 16.4 points a night.
However, Powell wasn’t much of a long-range shooter throughout his time at UCLA, as he converted on just 31.4 percent of his three-point tries.
We’ll see if the newfound Clippers star can continue his success during the second half.

Front Office Showing ‘Little Sign’ Of Aggression & Willingness To Deal First-Round Picks
As it currently stands, the Los Angeles Lakers are not anywhere near championship contention. Even after a December trade to bring in Dorian Finney-Smith, the franchise still needs roster improvements if they plan to compete this season. So all eyes are on general manager Rob Pelinka.
The Lakers do still have some assets in terms of players on tradable contracts as well as draft capital, but whether they will choose to make a big move is unclear. The trade deadline is less than two weeks away, but it sounds as if Pelinka and the Lakers won’t be major buyers.
According to Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Pelinka and the Lakers have shown little signs of aggression in recent trade talks and remain hesitant to send off their future draft picks:
The Lakers’ recent discussions with teams show little sign of aggression, sources say, and those actions speak to their concern level about their stars at the moment. The Lakers have shown a reticence to put their future first-round picks into trades in recent seasons, and there’s no indication that position has shifted.
This is very much in line with other previous reports which stated that if the Lakers do make another move, it won’t be for a big name or star to pair with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The superstar duo has reportedly been pushing for Pelinka to make another move as they feel the Lakers aren’t far away from contention, but it seems more and more likely that any move would be a minor one.
That isn’t necessarily a bad thing as bringing in another good role player or two could greatly enhance this roster. By all accounts, Pelinka doesn’t want mortgage the Lakers’ future by giving away first-round draft picks in a deal that doesn’t guarantee them a championship and it is hard to argue with that sentiment.
It is a difficult balance to try and compete now as LeBron continues to perform at a high level while Davis has been one of the best players in the NBA this season while still not putting the franchise in an awful spot years down the line. Pelinka will continue to scour the market for the right deals to make, but time is ticking.
Anthony Davis wants Lakers to acquire a center
If Rob Pelinka and the Lakers are able to swing another deal, the question then becomes what type of player should the team target. For Anthony Davis the choice is a simple one.
In a recent interview, Davis again reiterated his desire for the Lakers to bring in another center as he feels he is at his best when being able to play more at the power forward position. The franchise has been linked to a couple of centers, but whether or not they are able to agree to the right trade remains to be seen.

In the world of professional sports, the front office of a team plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the franchise. One key aspect of this is the willingness to make bold moves, including trading first-round draft picks in order to improve the team’s chances of success. However, recent reports suggest that some front offices are showing “little sign” of aggression and willingness to deal first-round picks. This lack of willingness to take risks and make big moves could have a significant impact on a team’s ability to compete at the highest level.
It’s important for front offices to carefully weigh the potential risks and rewards of trading away first-round picks. While it can be a difficult decision to part with a valuable asset, sometimes it is necessary in order to make a significant improvement to the team’s roster.
Fans and analysts alike will be keeping a close eye on how front offices navigate these decisions in the coming months. Will they show the aggression and willingness to make bold moves, or will they play it safe and stick with the status quo? Only time will tell.

Dan Hurley went off again on Tuesday night, and then his team nearly blew a very winnable game in overtime at home to Butler.
The UConn head coach then, after absolutely berating an official in the first half of their 80-78 overtime win against the Bulldogs, found a way to blame the cameras for his outburst. Though, just before doing so, he admitted that he was going to “sound like an a**hole here.”
This was UConn Head Coach Dan Hurley’s response when asked about saying “Don’t turn your back on me. I’m the best coach in the ***ing sport” to a referee. pic.twitter.com/Gm7u3DwEpY
— The Next Round (@NextRoundLive) January 22, 2025
“I just wish they would show these other coaches losing their minds at the officials in other Big East games that I’m coaching where I look, going into a timeout when I’m not talking to officials, I see the other coaches as demonstrative as I am,” Hurley said at the XL Center on Tuesday night. “The camera obviously, I’ve created this for myself. I’m not no victim. I just wish that they would not have the camera on me 90% of the time, unless they feel like it’s driving ratings and more a**holes on Twitter that can put clips of me from a game and they go, ‘Look how big of a monster he is, he’s yelling at a ref again. What a monster.’”
Late in the first half, Hurley was spotted screaming at an official as teams began walking to their respective benches for a timeout. Hurley, upset that a foul was called on the other end, then lost it when the official turned his back to him and started ignoring him.
“Don’t turn your back on me,” Hurley can be seen screaming at the official. “I’m the best coach in the f***ing sport.”
He did not receive a technical foul for the outburst, and then the Huskies held on to beat Butler by two points in overtime. Solo Ball led the way with 23 points and six rebounds, and Alex Karaban finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists. The win pushed UConn to 14-5 and came on the heels of its home loss to Creighton on Saturday. Butler, which has won just a single Big East game this season, dropped to 8-11.
Hurley’s antics on Tuesday night are nothing new. The coach, who has led UConn to back-to-back national titles, had to be held back by his assistants multiple times at the Maui Invitational earlier this season while screaming at officials — including once where he was hit for a technical foul that led to them losing a game. Hurley even said after, despite it being the premier Thanksgiving week tournament each season, that he would never play in it or an event like it again.
But to Hurley’s credit, the Huskies are still in a great position to pull off a rare three-peat in college basketball. If they are winning games, it’s much more difficult to question his sideline behavior.
Based on his comments after Tuesday’s game, he’s not going to adjust anything, either.
UConn’s fiery head coach Dan Hurley is not one to back down from a confrontation, especially when he believes his team is being wronged. After his latest sideline eruption at an official during a recent game, Hurley is doubling down on his actions and pointing the blame at the cameras for only showing his reaction. In a post-game press conference, Hurley made it clear that he was not happy with the officiating and felt that his team was not getting a fair shake. He admitted that his emotions got the best of him, but he also emphasized that the cameras only captured his side of the story.
“I know I can get fired up on the sidelines, but I believe in fighting for my guys and standing up for what’s right,” Hurley said. “The cameras only show my reactions, but they don’t show the whole picture. I’m not the only one who gets emotional during a game.”
Hurley’s fiery demeanor and intense passion for his team have been well-documented throughout his coaching career. While some may criticize his behavior, others see it as a sign of his commitment to his players and his willingness to fight for them no matter what.
As UConn continues its season, it’s clear that Dan Hurley will not be backing down anytime soon. Despite the cameras capturing his every move, Hurley remains steadfast in his belief that his actions are in the best interest of his team.

Report: Mets Showing Interest in Max Scherzer Reunion
According to On SI’s Pat Ragazzo, the New York Mets are showcasing “some level of interest” in right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer, who threw for teams at Cressey Sports Performance’s pro day earlier this week as he looks to secure a deal in free agency.
Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports
Alongside the Mets, Ragazzo reported that the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox were among the other clubs present.
Scherzer, of course, spent parts of two seasons in Queens after signing a three-year, $130 million deal in November 2021. Over that stretch, he recorded a 3.02 ERA, 3.50 FIP and 7.4 bWAR in 42 starts and 253 innings. Amidst a disappointing season for the team, the Mets traded him to the Texas Rangers for Luisangel Acuña at the 2023 deadline as part of a sell-off that also included the likes of Justin Verlander and David Robertson.
Scherzer would proceed to help Texas win its first World Series in franchise history. He returned in 2024 after picking up his player option, though he only made nine starts to the tune of a 3.95 ERA while dealing with a number of different injuries.
At 40-years-old, the future Hall of Famer and three-time Cy Young Award winner is looking to finish his illustrious career off on the right note. The Mets have already signed Sean Manaea, Frankie Montas, Clay Holmes and Griffin Canning this offseason, but perhaps they could find room for one more addition in their rotation.
According to recent reports, the New York Mets are showing interest in potentially reuniting with former Cy Young winner Max Scherzer. Scherzer, who spent the majority of his career with the Washington Nationals before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, is now a free agent and could be a valuable addition to the Mets’ starting rotation. The Mets have been active this offseason in trying to bolster their pitching staff, and Scherzer would certainly be a big-name addition. The 37-year-old right-hander is still considered one of the top pitchers in the game and would bring a wealth of experience and leadership to the Mets’ rotation.
While there is no guarantee that a deal will be reached, the Mets’ interest in Scherzer is certainly intriguing. Stay tuned for further updates as the offseason progresses.
