MultiVersus Shuts Down At The End Of Season 5 With No Refunds
Warner Bros. is pulling the plug on another failed multiplayer game. Its Smash Bros.-inspired platform fighter MultiVersus will shut down at the end of season 5, just a year after it’s bumpy return from live-service purgatory. The game will still be available to play offline, but there won’t be any refunds for players who already spent money.
“After careful consideration, our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game,” MultiVersus’ developers wrote on the game’s website on Friday. Fans will need to download the new update in order to still play offline after season 5 ends but no new downloads of the game will be allowed after that. All microtransactions in the free-to-play game have also been halted.
Season 5 begins on February 4, 2025 and will run through May 30, 2025. It adds DC’s Aquaman and Looney Tunes’ Lola Bunny. Both characters have to be unlocked, Aquaman via the Battle Pass and Lola as the daily calendar login reward. It seems like a weird move for a game that only has 90 days left to live. There won’t be refunds on recent purchases either. “This announcement does not change any current refund policies or terms offered by the storefront(s) from which content was previously purchased,” the FAQ page states.
MultiVersus originally launched in 2022 and was the new online hotness for a brief period, before people bounced off due to lack of new content and the novelty and gameplay balance wearing thin. Warner Bros. then took the unusual step of un-releasing the game, continuing development on it, and launching a new version early in 2024. Despite the comeback, however, it never managed to build up the same following it had the first time around.
MultiVersus’ monetization model didn’t do it any favors, either. Players complained about the cost of unlocking characters for local tournament play and the general grindy-ness for those who don’t spend lots of extra cash.
This is the latest game Warner Bros. has bailed on just a year after release, with 2024’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League also being unceremoniously put out to pasture after struggling to find a following.
“This decision was not made lightly. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have put our heart and soul into MultiVersus, creating a unique social and cooperative experience from the ground up that brings together a variety of popular characters and worlds,” the development team wrote on the game’s FAQ page. “We are very proud of the game we’ve built and are incredibly thankful for the support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey. Your passion and enthusiasm have been unmatched.”
.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of MultiVersus at the end of Season 5. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to continue operating the game beyond this point. We understand that this news may come as a disappointment to our loyal players, and for that, we sincerely apologize. We had hoped to provide an exciting and engaging gaming experience for all of you, but unfortunately, we are no longer able to do so.
As a result of this closure, we regret to inform you that there will be no refunds issued for any in-game purchases made. We understand that this may be frustrating for some players, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
We want to thank each and every one of you for your support and dedication to MultiVersus throughout the years. It has been an incredible journey, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to create and share this game with all of you.
We hope that you will continue to support us in our future endeavors, and we thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. Thank you for being a part of the MultiVersus community.

Caroline Wozniacki hopes to be “back again” as she confirmed why she had withdrawn from this year’s Australian Open.
Former world No 1 Wozniacki withdrew from the first Grand Slam of the year in the weeks building up to the tournament, though did not make an official announcement.
The Dane was still in Melbourne, bringing the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup onto the Rod Laver Arena during a presentation ceremony on the opening day of the tournament.
Speaking to Eurosport, the 2018 champion revealed that her ongoing battle with rheumatoid arthritis had left her struggling physically in the build-up to the tournament.
That led to her withdrawal, though she shut down rumours of a second retirement by confirming her intention to get back onto court later this year.
She said: “My body was not feeling great. When I started pre-season training I was struggling with my body a little bit.
“I have rheumatoid arthritis so it’s been an ongoing battle but I am hoping with a little break I will be back again soon.”
After two previous US Open final defeats, Wozniacki finally captured her sole Grand Slam title at the Australian Open seven years ago, beating Simona Halep in a three-set thriller.

She revealed her battle with rheumatoid arthritis later that year and retired from tennis at the Australian Open in 2020.
Wozniacki memorably defeated Kristie Ahn and 23rd seed Dayana Yastremska to reach the third round before a loss to Ons Jabeur, after which she had an on-court presentation ceremony.
However, after welcoming two children with husband David Lee, Wozniacki stunned the tennis world but announcing her intention to return in 2023.
The Dane made her comeback at the 2023 Canadian Open and then also played the Cincinnati Open, before reaching the fourth round of the US Open – losing to eventual champion Coco Gauff.
Wozniacki played 29 matches in 2024, holding a 16-13 record for the season.
The highlights of her season included a run to the last eight in Indian Wells and a return to the second week of the US Open, where she was beaten in the fourth round by Beatriz Haddad Maia.
However, the 34-year-old did not play after action in Flushing Meadows last season, and her withdrawal from the Australian Open led some to believe she was retiring for the second time.

Caroline Wozniacki, the former world number one and Grand Slam champion, has put an end to retirement rumours swirling around her by revealing the real reason for her withdrawal from the upcoming Australian Open.In a recent statement, Wozniacki confirmed that she will not be competing in the first Grand Slam of the year due to health concerns. The Danish tennis star explained that she has been struggling with rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes joint pain and inflammation.
Wozniacki, who announced her retirement from professional tennis in 2019, has been dealing with the condition for several years but has managed to continue playing at a high level. However, the 31-year-old decided to prioritize her health and well-being by taking a break from competitive tennis.
“I have been battling with rheumatoid arthritis for some time now, and it has become increasingly difficult to manage while trying to compete at the highest level,” Wozniacki said in a statement. “I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Australian Open to focus on my health and recovery.”
Despite the setback, Wozniacki remains optimistic about her future in tennis and is not ready to call it quits just yet. She emphasized that she is not retiring and plans to return to the WTA Tour when she is feeling better.
“I am not retiring from tennis. I love this sport and will do everything I can to get back on the court and compete again,” Wozniacki added. “I want to thank my fans and supporters for their understanding and continued support. I will be back stronger than ever.”
Fans around the world have expressed their support for Wozniacki and wish her a speedy recovery. The tennis community is looking forward to seeing the former champion back in action and competing at the highest level once again.

Celebrity chef Bobby Flay has recently made the decision to shut down several of his restaurants amidst industry challenges. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic causing significant disruptions to the restaurant industry, many establishments have been struggling to stay afloat. Flay’s decision to close some of his restaurants serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing the industry. One of the restaurants that Flay has decided to close is the iconic Mesa Grill in Las Vegas. The restaurant, which opened in 2004, was known for its Southwestern cuisine and had become a popular dining destination for both locals and tourists. However, with the decline in tourism and dining restrictions due to the pandemic, Mesa Grill was no longer able to sustain itself.
In addition to Mesa Grill, Flay has also closed several of his other restaurants in New York City, including Bar Americain and Bobby’s Burger Palace. These closures come as a blow to both fans of Flay’s cuisine and the restaurant industry as a whole.
Flay’s decision to shut down these restaurants highlights the challenges that many in the industry are facing. The pandemic has forced restaurants to adapt to constantly changing regulations and restrictions, leading to financial strain for many establishments. With dining habits shifting towards takeout and delivery, traditional dine-in restaurants have had to find new ways to stay relevant and profitable.
Despite the closures, Flay remains optimistic about the future. In a statement, he expressed his gratitude to his loyal customers and reiterated his commitment to reopening some of his restaurants in the future. While the closures are certainly a setback, Flay is determined to weather the storm and come back stronger than ever.
As the restaurant industry continues to navigate the challenges brought on by the pandemic, it is clear that even celebrity chefs like Bobby Flay are not immune to the struggles facing the industry. With closures and financial difficulties affecting restaurants across the country, it is more important than ever for diners to support their favorite local establishments and help them survive during these difficult times.

It looks like we might go into 2025 with more Grimes and Azealia Banks drama. The singers have been going toe to toe on social media off and on since 2018, and on December 26, they started hissing at each other, with Banks making some wild claims on X, formerly known as Twitter, which is now run by Grimes’s ex-boyfriend, Elon Musk.
How the feud got reignited
This drama is a little wild with years of insults, but the bad blood got reignited this week after Grimes responded to an edited image of her and Banks as Glinda and Elphaba from Wicked. “Hate to say it but would’ve been kinda lit,” she responded.
Azealia Banks responds
Banks caught sight of Grimes’ response and did not hold her fingers with her fiery response saying Musk “harvested” her eggs and took a picture of her c- section. “girl the way u are still trying to hold out on some weird ass innocent bull***t years later after u got dumped, cheated on, ur kids kidnapped and still trying to paint me like the villain and act like ur above me when ur getting conned by felons secretary,” Banks began.
Banks had other responses on X but they’re a bit too offensive to keep repeating.
What Banks is talking about
Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, shares two sons, X Æ A-Xii and Techno Mechanicus, and a daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl. As noted by DailyMail, Grimes claimed in November that the billionaire father of 12 wouldn’t let her see their children for 5 months. The former couple had been in a legal battle since April 2022, suing and countersuing each other for custody and parental rights.
She took to X to explain, “‘ Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers’ rights having my Instagram posts and modeling used as reasons I shouldn’t have my kids and fighting and detaching from the love of my life as he becomes unrecognizable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or IQ/ strategy experience).”
The singer did not share many more details, but DailyMaiil reported that the Travis County Clerk confirmed that the Texas dispute was settled in November.
As for the whole C-section thing, Grimes claimed in the past that Musk took a photo of her while she was having a C-section for X Æ A-Xii and circulated it without her consent.
Grimes responds
Grimes responded to Banks, saying it was just a joke. While she didn’t shut down her claim that he cheated on her, she did refute that Musk broke up with her. “It’s just a funny joke bro. Not trying to paint you as a villain. I didn’t ‘get dumped.’ I bounced. ‘My amazing baby is asleep in my bed beside me, I’m in love. No regrets. Life is as beautiful as you want it to be. Ur insanely talented,” she wrote, “even after all this, I want u to win. god bless Mlady.”
Grimes then responded to an X user calling Banks ‘problematic’ saying “She is the best hater on the planet. The da Vinci of insults. At a point I just gave up and accepted that I appreciate the madness of existence.”
The mother of 3 also claimed, “She literally blackmailed me for 250k and leaked all our personal texts cuz I wouldn’t pay her lol. Think i was actually p nice to not press charges.”
They’ve stopped responding to each other, and from one of Grimes’ tweets, it seems like she may have finally blocked Banks.
Grimes recently took to social media to shut down claims made by rapper Azealia Banks that Tesla CEO Elon Musk had dumped her.In a series of now-deleted Instagram stories, Banks alleged that Musk had ghosted her after inviting her to his house to work on music. She also claimed that Grimes had ignored her messages and calls, leading her to believe that the couple was no longer together.
However, Grimes quickly responded to Banks’ allegations, stating that she and Musk were still together and that Banks’ claims were false. She also urged Banks to stop spreading lies and focus on her own career.
This latest drama comes after Banks previously accused Musk of tweeting while on acid and called him a “beta male” in a series of tweets last year.
It seems like the drama between Banks and Musk is far from over, but for now, Grimes has made it clear that she and Musk are still going strong.

The Costco board has rejected a request from shareholders to drop its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies. The shareholders urged the board to get rid of its “illegal discrimination” program.
The Costco board replied to a number of shareholders, recommending a vote against a proposal to “report on the risks of maintaining DEI efforts,” Newsweek reported.
The shareholders had put forward a suggestion that employees of the company could be victims of “illegal discrimination because they are white, Asian, male or straight.” They argued that it could lead to tens of billions of dollars in legal expenses defending against lawsuits.
“Our Board has considered this proposal and believes that our commitment to an enterprise rooted in respect and inclusion is appropriate and necessary,” said a statement issued by the board.. “Our success at Costco Wholesale has been built on service to our critical stakeholders: employees, members and suppliers. Our efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion follow our code of ethics.”
The board added that it wants to make sure all of its more than 300,000 employees “feel valued and respected,” and that by having a diverse workforce, Costco can have more insight and creativity when it comes to what the company offers at stores.
The board went on to note that customers will be able to “see themselves reflected in the people in our warehouses with whom they interact.”
“Having diversity in our supplier base, including attention to small businesses, is beneficial for many of the same reasons diversity benefits our Company,” the board stated. “We believe that it fosters creativity and innovation in the merchandise and services that we offer our members.”
The shareholders argued that the Supreme Court ruling in the case Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard found that Harvard’s use of race when choosing who to admit to the school violated the 14th Amendment.
The shareholder proposal also noted that a Starbucks manager had won a lawsuit worth $25.6 million after claiming that she was fired because she was white.
“It’s clear that DEI holds litigation, reputational and financial risks to the Company, and therefore financial risks to shareholders,” the proposal stated. “And yet Costco still has such a program, though it was apprehensive enough to recognize this as it recently and quietly rebranded its DEI program to ‘People and Communities.’”
The board noted that it “regularly evaluates” the procedures the firm uses to comply with “the law including evolving Supreme Court decisions.”
“We believe that our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are legally appropriate, and nothing in the proposal demonstrates otherwise,” the board added. “Our focus on diversity, equity and inclusion is not, however, only for the sake of improved financial performance but to enhance our culture and the well-being of people whose lives we influence.”
The annual shareholder meeting is set to be streamed live on January 23 at 5 p.m. E.T. Part of the meeting will be devoted to a vote on the proposal “if properly presented at the meeting.” Only those who have been shareholders since before November 15 will be allowed to vote.
In a recent decision, Costco has shut down shareholders’ demands to ditch their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) hiring practices. The company has faced pressure from some investors who believe that DEI initiatives are unnecessary and could potentially harm their bottom line.Costco, however, has stood firm in their commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The company believes that DEI practices not only benefit their employees but also enhance their overall company culture and performance.
In a statement, Costco’s CEO reaffirmed their dedication to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce and emphasized that they will continue to prioritize DEI initiatives in their hiring processes.
This decision highlights Costco’s commitment to fostering a more equitable and inclusive workplace, despite opposition from some shareholders. It also sends a powerful message about the importance of diversity and inclusion in corporate settings.

Heather Rae El Moussa won’t be mom-shamed.
The HGTV star, 37, is married to Tarek El Moussa, and the couple share a son, 1-year-old Tristan. She’s also stepmother to the two children he shares with ex-wife Christina Hall – Taylor, 14, and Brayden, 9.
On Christmas Eve, El Moussa shared a series of photos of herself with Tarek, Tristan and Brayden, as well as a number of other people at what appeared to be a holiday party. In the photos, she was wearing a revealing red dress made primarily of fishnet and lace.
She received several positive comments about her appearance, with many people telling her that the dress was beautiful.
“When I grow up I want to look like Heather! She’s so pretty!” one person wrote.

Another comment read, “I’m so glad you’re wearing that dress. This is what taking care of your body and working hard looks like.”
Others were more critical. Some commenters slammed her for wearing the racy dress now that she’s a mother.
“Dress looks like more for the bedroom!” one person commented, along with a crying emoji.
“The dress? Really and as a mother of a little boy!” another person wrote.
Another comment read, “The dress is not appropriate. Your [sic] a mother now,” and to that, El Moussa fired off a response.
“So because I’m a mother I can’t wear a pretty dress that makes me feel beautiful?” she wrote, per People. “What does that have to do with anything? I’m still a human and my name is heather I’m not just a mother. Choose joy.”
She also took a screenshot of the exchange and posted it to her Instagram story, adding the text, “Comments like this make me laugh. I don’t even get offended anymore by the rudeness of others. I choose to spread joy not hate.”

Heather admitted the show has “been stressful at times” but noted filming has been fun. “We have a lot of laughs, and we’re going to kick her butt.”

“I think people are very excited about ‘The Flip Off’ because, obviously, you have exes working together again after they were on ‘Flip or Flop’ for so long,” Heather noted. “It’s been like a fun, friendly competition.”
Fox News Digital’s Lauryn Overhultz contributed to this report.
Heather Rae El Moussa, star of HGTV’s hit show “Flipping 101 with Tarek El Moussa,” recently found herself at the center of controversy after some critics claimed that her Christmas dress was “not appropriate” for a mother. In a defiant Instagram post, Heather shut down these claims, stating, “I am a proud mother and I will dress however I please. Just because I’m a mom doesn’t mean I have to dress a certain way. I am confident in my choices and won’t let anyone dictate how I should look or act.”
The stunning red dress in question featured a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit, showing off Heather’s toned figure and impeccable sense of style. Many of her fans and followers praised her for looking glamorous and confident in the outfit.
Heather’s response to the criticism serves as a powerful reminder that mothers are individuals with their own unique style and should be free to express themselves however they choose. As a successful businesswoman and TV personality, she is a role model for women everywhere, showing that you can be a dedicated parent while still embracing your own identity and personal style.
In the end, Heather’s message is clear: she will not let anyone’s opinions hold her back from being her true self. And her fans couldn’t agree more.
