MultiVersus is coming to an end. After rumors began to circulate on Thursday that the game could wrap up after Season 5, it’s been announced that MultiVersus is shutting down.
In a post on social media and the game’s website, Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games announced that Season 5 “will serve as the final update for MultiVersus”. The season will run from February 4-May 30. After that day, the game will be taken offline with the game only playable in an offline state.
“At that point, there will be an option to play MultiVersus offline via the local gameplay mode, either solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends,” the blog post reads. “To do this, you’ll need to install/download the latest version of the game and log in during Season 5, any time between February 4 at 9 a.m. PST and May 30 at 9 a.m. PST.
“After logging in, a local save file will be automatically created connected to your PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account, allowing you to enjoy the game offline with all earned and purchased content moving forward.”
Starting today (January 31) real-money transactions will no longer be available in the game. Everything, including the two new characters—Aquaman and Lola Bunny—will be unlockable by playing the game. Lastly, once Season 5 ends on May 30, the game will no longer be able to be downloaded from any marketplace.
As far as the future of developer Player First Games is concerned, that’s currently unknown. Warner Bros. Games acquired the studio in July 2024.
“This decision was not made lightly,” the developers said. “All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros Games teams have put our heart and soul into MultiVersus, creating a unique social and cooperative experience from the ground up that brings together a variety of popular characters and worlds.
“We are very proud of the game we have built and are incredibly thankful for the support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey. Your passion and enthusiasm have been unmatched.”

On Apr. 17, 2025, EA‘s game platform Origin will be shutting down, leading players to migrate to the EA App. This comes as a result of a lack of support for the service, which is outdated and has not been favored among players. To maintain access to their previously saved data and games, any remaining Origin users will have to switch to the EA App, which is still supported.
While the number of players this may apply to may be minimal, it could be frustrating to those still using the service who are unaware of the change. The reason for the shutdown is a result of Microsoft’s lack of support for 32-bit software, according to a statement from EA. Microsoft now only supports software that’s 64-bit and up, rendering Origin obsolete. Players without a processor that can run 64-bit programs are unfortunately out of luck as the technology becomes more and more outdated.
Steam has tons of great video games from the 1990s, including Doom and Fallout 2.
Luckily, the process for transferring from Origin to the EA App is simple. Players just need to install the EA App and log in with the same credentials that they would on Origin. Once logged in, all previously owned games and data should be transferred to the EA App. EA felt the need to point out that players only need to redownload their content if they switch to a new device to use the EA App, but simply changing operating systems will still allow content to carry over.
On EA’s website, it also states that downloading the EA App will uninstall Origin at the same time. This should make the migration process simple, rather than having to manually uninstall the Origin app or forgetting to do so entirely.
What’s the Difference Between Origin and the EA App?
Image via EA
The main difference between the new EA App and the old Origin launcher is mainly their compatibility. They both serve as a way to get into your EA-published games in one place, but the EA App is simply more modern than Origin. The app only takes users so far, however, because browsing the catalog of games on the EA App redirects users to the EA website where games can be purchased, unlike platforms like Steam where players can buy, install and play games from the same place.
While the EA App is replacing Origin for PC users, Mac users are still able to use Origin depending on what macOS version they’re running. macOS Mojave and older will still be able to use Origin, as the 32-bit issue does not apply the same way to Mac users as it does for Windows machines.
While macOS Mojave is currently unsupported on new Mac devices with the latest version being from 2021, users still using it or any earlier versions will still be able to use the Origin service. Later versions of macOS will still be required to move to the EA App, which should still uninstall Origin from their devices.
While there may not be many players who are relying on Origin to access their favorite games, this shutdown is the final nail in the coffin for the old game launcher. Although not many people are likely to miss it, the EA App will be there to fill the void, however small it is.
It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the shutdown of EA Origins, effective April 1st. This decision was not made lightly, but unfortunately, due to a lack of support and declining user numbers, we are unable to continue operating the platform.
We understand that this news may come as a disappointment to many of our loyal users, and we want to express our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. We truly appreciate the support and loyalty you have shown us over the years.
We encourage all users to download and save any of their purchased games or saved data before the shutdown date. After April 1st, the EA Origins platform will no longer be accessible, and all accounts will be permanently closed.
Thank you for your understanding and support. We are grateful for the time we have spent with you on EA Origins and hope to continue providing you with quality gaming experiences in the future.
EA’s Origin app will stop working as of April 17, 2025, you’ll need to switch to the EA app to continue accessing your EA library.
EA took this decision due to Microsoft ending support for 32-bit apps within Windows 11, since Origin is a 32-bit app.
All of your games will be safe and accessible in the new launcher, but you may need to upgrade to Windows 11 first.
EA is busy putting the final nail in the coffin of Origin, its longstanding game launcher for Windows. Here’s what you’ll need to use going forward to access your library of EA games and the EA Play subscription service.
Origin Is Being Discontinued
Origin is a 32-bit game launcher for Windows released by EA in 2011. The 32-bit architecture was understandable for the time as the relevant versions of Microsoft’s operating system—Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10—were available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Even if you had a 64-bit version of Windows, it was compatible with running the Origin app, which was built on 32-bit architecture.
In 2021, Microsoft launched Windows 11 as a 64-bit OS. The 32-bit version was skipped because Microsoft wanted to focus on 64-bit systems. Most modern hardware is now built around 64-bit architecture which offers better performance.
However, it was still possible to run 32-bit software, including Origin, on Windows 11 using compatibility mode, although the program often wouldn’t work as reliably as it did on a native 32-bit system.
Now, Microsoft has decided to end support for 32-bit software. This means you won’t be able to use applications built on that architecture, even with compatibility mode. As a result, EA has announced it will shut down the Origin app on April 17, 2025.
EA’s announcement about shutting down the Origin app is just a formality, as many users have already stopped using it and switched to its successor: the EA app. The company introduced the EA app, built on 64-bit architecture, in 2022 as a replacement for Origin.
What Happens to Your Games Now?
First of all, your account and games are completely safe. However, there are a few important things you need to know.
Since the EA app is a 64-bit application, you can’t install it on an operating system built on 32-bit architecture. So, if you were thinking of installing it on your 32-bit Windows 10 computer, you won’t be able to do that. Also, while you can install the application on the 64-bit version of Windows 10, there’s no guarantee it will continue to function the same way after Microsoft stops supporting Windows 10 on October 14, 2025.
Therefore, the best option for you now is to update your system to Windows 11 from Windows 10. This will not only ensure you have access to all of the features Windows 11 has to offers, but you also won’t need to re-download your games when switching to the EA app from Origin. If you’re switching to a newer device that’s compatible with the EA app, however, you’ll need to re-download the games on that device.
If you’ve been using the Origin app all along, you need to download the EA app on your computer. Then, open the EA app and log in with the same account you used in Origin. Once logged in, you’ll see all the games you had in Origin listed in the EA app and ready to play.
You’ll also see the same in-game hours in the EA app that you had in Origin. Additionally, all the data you saved through Origin Cloud will be transferred to the EA app. However, EA has not confirmed that the mods you were using in your games while playing through Origin will transfer to the EA app. The company recommends contacting the mod creators to find out if their mods will be compatible with the EA app.
Origin never got the love from gamers that game launchers like Steam have received. It used to have very slow download speeds, the UI was clunky, and there were long-standing rumors that it was spyware. All things considered, EA is taking the right approach by officially shutting it down and focusing on its superior EA app instead.
As of August 2021, EA has announced that it will be shutting down its Origin app, which has been the platform for purchasing and playing EA games for many years. This news has left many gamers wondering what will happen to their game libraries and how they can secure their purchased games.
Here are a few steps you can take to ensure that you don’t lose access to your EA games:
1. Download and install the EA Desktop app: EA has announced that it will be transitioning its games to the new EA Desktop app, which will serve as the replacement for Origin. Make sure to download and install this new app to continue playing your EA games.
2. Back up your game library: Before the shutdown of Origin, it’s a good idea to back up your game library to ensure that you don’t lose access to your purchased games. You can do this by copying the game files to an external hard drive or cloud storage.
3. Contact EA customer support: If you have any concerns about your game library or need assistance with transitioning to the new EA Desktop app, don’t hesitate to contact EA customer support. They will be able to provide you with the necessary information and support to ensure a smooth transition.
Overall, while the shutdown of the Origin app may be concerning for some gamers, there are steps you can take to secure your game library and continue playing your EA games. Make sure to stay informed about any updates from EA and take the necessary actions to ensure that you can continue enjoying your favorite games.
Washington — TikTok began restoring service to users in the United States following a temporary and voluntary shutdown that lasted less than a day. The company said Sunday that it was in the process of reinstating access after President-elect Donald Trump vowed to try to pause the ban by executive order on his first day in office.
“We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive,” TikTok said in a statement. “It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”
STATEMENT FROM TIKTOK:
In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170…
TikTok voluntarily shut down service in the U.S. just hours before a Sunday deadline, cutting off access to tens of millions of users after the Supreme Court this week upheld a law that effectively banned it over concerns about its ties to China.
The law passed by Congress last year gave TikTok’s China-bases parent company ByteDance until Jan. 19 to divest from TikTok or be cut off from U.S. app stores and hosting services. TikTok said a sale wasn’t possible and challenged the law in court, but it was rejected by a unanimous Supreme Court on Friday.
Trump on Sunday posted on social media that he would restore TikTok, first writing “SAVE TIKTOK” and then vowing to issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law takes effect. Further, he said there would be no liability for companies that helped keep TikTok from going dark before the order went into effect.
“Americans deserve to see our exciting Inauguration on Monday, as well as other events and conversations,” he wrote. “I would like the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture. By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to say up. Without U.S. approval, there is no Tik Tok. With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars – maybe trillions.”
The Supreme Court’s decision said the divest-or-ban law does not violate the free speech rights of TikTok or its 170 million users in the U.S., agreeing with the government’s position that the platform could be used by China to collect a vast amount of sensitive information on Americans.
A message reading “Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now” is displayed from the TikTok app on a cell phone screen on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, in Los Angeles.

While the Biden administration said enforcement of the law would be left to the incoming Trump administration, the company itself took itself offline shortly before Sunday’s midnight deadline.
Users in the U.S. who opened the app late Saturday night were greeted with a message with the headline, “Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now.”
“A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S.,” the message reads. “Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!”
The app was also no longer available in the Apple or Google Play stores.
Trump’s incoming national security adviser, Mike Waltz, told “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” on Sunday that the president-elect had spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping and “they agreed to work together on this.”
“We can have an app that protects Americans,” Waltz said. “And I could tell you, I wouldn’t want the FBI or the U.S. government monitoring every keystroke or seeing every password, nor would we want the Chinese Communist Party. But we also want an app that 170 million Americans clearly really enjoy and that we were able to get our message out during the Trump campaign in a very powerful way.”
TikTok had said Friday it would “be forced to go dark” beginning Sunday unless the Biden administration assured service providers that the law would not be enforced. The White House called the appeal “a stunt” and said the company should bring up its concerns with the Trump administration.
“We see no reason for TikTok or other companies to take actions in the next few days before the Trump Administration takes office on Monday,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.
Internationally on Sunday, the TikTok app remained accessible, and there was no indication for international users that it had gone dark in the U.S. It was still possible to view and interact with American accounts, and there was no obvious official signposting that U.S. users’ access had been restricted.
Even if Trump declines to enforce the ban, the law would still be on the books, and companies like Apple and Google could be penalized down the road for violations. Trump told NBC News on Saturday that he was considering an option to extend the deadline for the law to go into effect.
“The 90-day extension is something that will be most likely done, because it’s appropriate,” he said in the phone interview, adding, “if I decide to do that, I’ll probably announce it on Monday.”
The law includes a provision that allows for a short-term extension if there is a sale in progress.
During Supreme Court arguments on Jan. 10, Noel Francisco, a lawyer for TikTok, warned that the platform would shut down when the law went into effect, explaining that it would be “extraordinarily difficult” for a divestiture to occur under any timeline because the Chinese government opposes a sale of the algorithm that powers the platform by tailoring video recommendations to each user.
“As I understand it, we go dark,” Francisco said.
But even if there is an eventual sale that did not include TikTok’s algorithm, it would take “many years” for a new team of engineers to rebuild it and it would be a “fundamentally different platform,” according to Francisco. He said the company’s inability to share any user data with ByteDance under the law would cut off American users from viewing content from other parts of the world and vice versa.
The bipartisan law was tucked into a foreign assistance package that swiftly passed Congress and was signed by President Biden last April. TikTok and ByteDance challenged the law the next month, calling it “an extraordinary and unconstitutional assertion of power” based on “speculative and analytically flawed concerns about data security and content manipulation” that would suppress the speech of millions of Americans.
In a December ruling, a federal appeals court upheld the statute, saying the U.S. government “acted solely to protect that freedom from a foreign adversary nation and to limit that adversary’s ability to gather data on people in the United States.” The appeals court later denied TikTok’s bid to delay the law from taking effect, pending a Supreme Court review.
The Supreme Court moved with extraordinary speed to take up the case after TikTok requested the justices order a temporary pause. The court issued its opinion a week after hearing arguments and two days before the law took effect.
“There is no doubt that, for more than 170 million Americans, TikTok offers a distinctive and expansive outlet for expression, means of engagement, and source of community. But Congress has determined that divestiture is necessary to address its well-supported national security concerns regarding TikTok’s data collection practices and relationship with a foreign adversary,” the court’s opinion said.
The justices cited Congress’ finding that companies can be required to turn over data to the Chinese government under Chinese law.
“The government had good reason to single out TikTok,” the court said.
Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar noted during arguments that there’s “nothing permanent or irrevocable that happens” on Sunday. The law provides the authority for the restrictions to be lifted on TikTok if there is a sale after the date.
“Congress expected we might see something like a game of chicken. ByteDance saying, we can’t do it, China will never let us do it. But when push comes to shove and these restrictions take effect, I think it will fundamentally change the landscape with respect to what ByteDance is willing to consider,” Prelogar said.
In a video statement after the Supreme Court issued its decision, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew appeared confident that the app would have a future under Trump. He thanked the incoming president for his commitment to finding a solution that would allow TikTok to continue operating in the U.S. “for years to come.”
Trump, who tried to ban TikTok during his first term over national security concerns, said Friday that he spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping about TikTok. A Chinese summary of the call did not mention that it was a topic of discussion.
Barring a sale or Congress overturning the law, there’s no long-term certainty about TikTok’s future in the U.S. If Trump or a future presidentdeclines to enforce the law, companies like Apple and Google could still face steep fines in the future.
“On the 19th, if it doesn’t shut down, there is a violation of law, correct?” Justice Sonia Sotomayor asked Prelogar, who said, “Yes.”
“And whatever the new president does, doesn’t change that reality for these companies,” Sotomayor continued, referring to the penalties facing app stores and web hosting services.
“That’s right,” Prelogar said, adding that a five-year statute of limitations exists.

TikTok, the popular social media app, has officially started restoring its services in the U.S. after temporarily shutting down due to the divest-or-ban law passed by the government. Users can now once again enjoy creating and sharing their short videos on the platform.
The divest-or-ban law required TikTok to either sell its U.S. operations to an American company or face a complete ban in the country. After months of negotiations and legal battles, TikTok has finally reached an agreement with a U.S.-based company to continue operating in the country.
This news comes as a relief to the millions of TikTok users who rely on the platform for entertainment, creativity, and connection with others. With the service now being restored, users can once again enjoy all the features and content that TikTok has to offer.
TikTok has assured users that their data and privacy will be protected, and that they are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all users. As the app makes its comeback in the U.S., users can look forward to getting back to sharing their videos and connecting with others in the TikTok community.

Origin, the PC games store and PC client that Electronic Arts first introduced in 2011, is coming to an end later this year. While the currently available EA app and store did evolve from the classic Origin experience and have almost entirely taken over operations, the old app has still been available for some users. However, EA has finally announced that Origin’s days are numbered.
The company announced the shutdown on a support page, revealing an April 17, 2025, final date for the software. It said Microsoft dropping support for 32-bit software is the reason behind the complete removal.
“On April 17, 2025, Origin will shut down, as Microsoft has stopped supporting 32-bit software,” says the support document found on ea.com. “If you use Origin, you need to upgrade to the EA app, which requires a 64-bit version of Windows.”
EA began the task of fully replacing Origin with its new EA App back in 2022, following a long beta period. The Origin client still remained active so far due to its use by macOS players as well as those still on 32-bit versions of Windows. But now, macOS support is available on the EA App, and 32-bit support is being phased out entirely, with EA encouraging PC players to upgrade.
“The EA app is our enhanced platform for PC games,” says the company describing its latest platform. “Optimized for the best user experience, it lets you easily find what you need and get into the game quicker than ever.”
EA also assures players that all their games will still be attached to their account when moving to the EA app or when upgrading operating systems. Games won’t need to be re-downloaded either, while playtime counters and any cloud storage being used for saves will also automatically transfer.
It’s official – EA’s Origin app is shutting down as 32-bit support comes to an end. This decision comes as more and more software developers are transitioning to 64-bit platforms, leaving older systems in the dust.
For those who have been using Origin on a 32-bit system, this news may come as a disappointment. But fear not, as EA has announced that they will be providing support for those who need to transfer their game libraries to a 64-bit system.
While this may be an inconvenience for some users, it is a necessary step forward in the ever-evolving world of technology. As we move towards more advanced systems, it’s important for software developers to adapt and stay ahead of the curve.
So if you’re still using a 32-bit system and are a fan of EA’s games, now is the time to start thinking about upgrading. And don’t worry – EA has your back during this transition period. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Over nine months on from the shutdown of the 3DS and Wii U online servers, Nintendo has issued a statement asking players to “refrain” from using unofficial services that allow them to continue playing like nothing ever happened, thank you very much.
In a new post on its Japanese customer support Twitter account (translated by Google and verified using DeepL), Nintendo doesn’t call out Pretendo or any other specific alternatives by name, but it warns against using “unauthorized services” that replace the Wii U’s online functionality as “they may pose unexpected security risks.” It’s not clear what prompted the company to post this now – as it points out itself, the servers officially shut down on April 9 last year, and while Pretendo is still a work in progress, it’s been available for quite some time now.
The statement also comes at a time when Nintendo fans everywhere have got their eyes glued on the company’s social media pages in the hopes of seeing a Switch 2 announcement. Apparently, that could be happening sooner rather than later, as one leaker recently claimed it’ll happen this week – something which was corroborated by multiple other sources including Eurogamer and The Verge’s Tom Warren. We’re now halfway through the week, so we’ll just have to watch this space to see if the reports end up being correct.
Recently, Nintendo made the decision to shut down the online services for the Wii U, much to the disappointment of many players. However, in a recent statement, Nintendo has asked players not to turn to “unauthorized services” to replace the now defunct online services.
Nintendo has warned that using these unauthorized services may pose “security risks” to players, potentially putting their personal information and gaming accounts at risk. While it may be tempting to seek out alternative ways to continue playing online with friends, Nintendo is urging players to prioritize their safety and security.
It is important for players to be cautious when exploring alternative options for online gaming, as using unauthorized services can have serious consequences. Nintendo is committed to providing a safe and secure gaming experience for all players, and asks for their cooperation in avoiding potentially risky behavior.
As the gaming community continues to adapt to the changes brought about by the shutdown of the Wii U online services, it is important for players to prioritize their security and to follow Nintendo’s guidance in order to protect themselves and their gaming accounts. Let’s all work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable gaming experience for everyone.
FRISCO, Texas — With only two games remaining in the regular season, the Dallas Cowboys (7-8) are shutting wide receiver down for the rest of 2024.
The 2023 All-Pro has been battling through an AC joint sprain in his shoulder since Dallas’ Week 9 game at the Atlanta Falcons, and after Lamb aggravated it on Sunday night in the Cowboys’ win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he said his focus was keeping the shoulder “attached to my body.”
The Cowboys released the following statement about Lamb’s status:
“Additional examinations and scans this week on CeeDee Lamb’s shoulder have determined that his injury has now progressed to a point that he will be listed as “Out” for the remaining two games of the season. He will undergo a process of treatment and rehabilitation for his shoulder, is not currently expected to require surgery and is projected to make a full recovery.”
Lamb will finish the season with 101 catches (tied for the second-most in the NFL entering Week 17) for 1,194 receiving yards (third in the NFL entering Week 16) and six receiving touchdowns despite quarterback Dak Prescott being out for the season with a torn hamstring since Week 9.
The Dallas Cowboys announced today that star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb will be out for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury. The team has decided to shut down the All-Pro receiver in order to prioritize his long-term health and ensure he is fully recovered for next season.
Lamb, who has been a key playmaker for the Cowboys this season, suffered the injury during last week’s game against the New Orleans Saints. Despite initial hopes that he could return to the field in the coming weeks, further evaluation has revealed the severity of the injury and the need for extended rest and rehabilitation.
Losing Lamb is a significant blow for the Cowboys, as he has been a reliable target for quarterback Dak Prescott and a game-changer on offense. However, the team is confident in their depth at the wide receiver position and will look to other players to step up in Lamb’s absence.
Cowboys fans will undoubtedly miss seeing Lamb on the field, but the decision to prioritize his health is the right one for his long-term success in the NFL. Here’s to a speedy recovery for CeeDee Lamb and a strong return next season. #GetWellSoonCeeDeeLamb.
