    The worrying incident occurred when the host was discussing the blockbuster NBA trade which saw former Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic join the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.

    However, Cowherd struggled throughout the show, and eventually said he had to leave the air as he was “getting very sick very fast.”

    “Folks, I am going to take a break,” Cowherd said suddenly.

    “I am getting very, very sick very, very quickly on the set. We will return.”

    Fans were understandably concerned, and shared their worry on X as the show went to a seven-minute commercial break.

    “Hoping Colin Cowherd is okay. Was not looking or sounding good before quickly tossing to break,” one fan wrote.

    “Now, FS1 has been lengthening the commercial break with promos and it’s been 7 minutes since they were on air,” a second noted.

    Others shared another video of Cowherd looking uncomfortable earlier in the show.

    “He didn’t look so great earlier in the show either,” posted one fan.

    When the show eventually came back from a lengthy ad break, co-host Jason McIntyre was in the host’s chair.

    McIntyre said Cowherd was feeling under the weather but was OK and relaxing in his dressing room.

    The show’s official social media account thankfully confirmed that Cowherd was OK, but that he was done filming for the rest of the day.

  • House passes bills to reverse court decision on tipped minimum wage, earned sick time | Politics


    LANSING, Mich. (WJRT) – State lawmakers cleared the first major hurdle to prevent changes to Michigan’s minimum wage and paid time off.

    The changes initially came about due to a Supreme Court decision back in July. That decision paving the way for the state’s minimum wage to increase to $15/hour by 2028, as well as the phasing out of the tipped minimum wage and allowing for all Michiganders to earn paid sick time.

    House Republicans have halting these changes this their top priority in the new legislative term. Last month, they walked off the job because Democrats would not act on the bills during the lame duck period at the end of the year.

    When they took over the House this year, they made them the first two bills introduced, and now, the first two bills passed by the House.

    “The legislation before us strikes a balance. It retains the current tip credit, ensuring that servers can continue to thrive with the system they want,” said Rep. Matthew Bierlein (R-Vassar). “It responsibly raises the minimum wage over time, and adjusts the earned sick leave mandate to better reflect the realities of small business.”

    The two bills were passed with some bipartisan support. House Bill 4001 was approved 63-41, while House Bill 4002 was approved 67-38.

    The first of the two bills would slow the normal minimum wage’s increase to $15 per hour by 2029 and keep the tipped minimum wage at 38% of the minimum wage.

    At the same time, House Bill 4002 would ensure that paid sick leave requirements only apply to employers with more than 50 workers.

    “The servers, the restaurants, and their clientele they cannot afford for the legislature to not act,” said Rep. Bill G. Schuette (R-Midland).

    Despite the bipartisan support, Democrats raised some concerns that the bills were overturning the will of the people. They say the changes to paid time off in particular would prevent the vast majority of Michiganders from being able to take advantage.

    “Right now, more than 1.7 million Michiganders lack access to even one hour of paid sick time. (…) This bill will worsen the crisis by reducing protections for thousands more workers,” said Rep. Tonya Myers Phillips (D-Detroit).

    House Democrats attempted to find a compromise by offering over a dozen amendments across both bills that would keep things closer to the Supreme Court decision.

    “Big money stakeholders have tried to scare workers into believing their tips will go away if their wage is raised. This is simply not true. In California, tipped workers make 16.50 an hour and they still have the highest tipping rate in the country at 23 percent,” said Rep. Emily Dievendorf (D-Lansing).

    Amendments included expanding the on-ramp to increasing the minimum wage and implementing paid time off for small businesses, as well as strengthening the language to make it harder for employees to no-call, no-show without consequences.

    The latter was indicated to be a major problem by businesses when the bill was in committee, but all proposed amendments were quickly shot down.

    “Those of us in this chamber are legislators. We make the law, not our current activist Supreme Court. Our job today is to do the will of the people of Michigan and not that of an out of state advocacy organization that is disconnected with the workers in the state of Michigan,” said Rep. Jamie Thompson (R-Brownstown Township).

    This fight is far from over. Now the bills go to the Senate, who has already introduced a completely different version of the same package.

    Meanwhile if no action is taken, the high court’s decision goes into effect on February 21.

  • A million Michigan workers may lose sick leave guarantee under House plan


    Many small businesses already voluntarily provide paid sick leave, Calley said, noting 84% of businesses in his association reported doing so as of last year. The pending mandate creates onerous rules that could actually make it harder for businesses to provide the same benefits, he said. 

    But unions, workers’ rights groups and some Democrats contend that employees across the state deserve the higher wage and sick leave requirements set to take effect next month. 

    Preemptively dismantling the laws would spit in the face of voters who signed the 2018 petition poised to finally be implemented, argued state Rep. Dylan Wegela, D-Garden City.

    “What’s best for the state, and the people of Michigan, is to give people the raise that they’re entitled to by the decision and make sure that people have paid sick leave,” Wegela told Bridge.

    “To me, this is a no brainer.”

    No call, no shows

    Estimates from 2018 suggest that as many as one-third of Michigan workers are in jobs without a paid sick leave policy. 

    Of the workers who do not have paid sick time, they are most likely to be part-time workers, among the lowest paid or working in the hospitality industry, advocates say. 

    Calley, head of the state Small Business Association, argues it’s not that owners don’t want to give their employees paid sick leave, it’s just that the wording of the court ruling could cause significant complications.  

    As written, the decision will allow for workers to miss up to three consecutive days without calling their employer to explain. It also enables employees to take time off in the smallest amount of increments a business’ payroll allows.

    During the latest episode of The Morning After podcast, the wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford opened up about the “well-oiled machine” that was the elaborate travel process to get the entire team to Arizona in time for their playoff showdown against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, January 13.

    The game, which was originally set to take place at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., was relocated to the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. due to the ongoing wildfires in L.A. 

    According to Kelly, 34, the Rams organization facilitated a plane for the entire team and their families to travel together to the game. Her only major concern was, she was sick with the flu at the time, as were her four kids. Kelly and her NFL player husband share four daughters: twins Sawyer and Chandler, 7, Harper, 6, and Tyler, 4. 

    “We were sick on that flight,” Kelly admitted during the Jan. 15 podcast. “There was a huge guilt factor to me going, ‘Should we be on this plane right now because of everyone surrounding us and everyone who has to play this game?’ ”

    Kelly reached out to multiple people who would be on the flight ahead of time and received an unexpected response at such a pivotal moment in the season.

    “They were like, ‘Get your a– on that plane. We all need to be together,’” Kelly said. “That was such an incredible thing for me to hear because there was a little bit of like, ‘Should I just stay back with my children?’” 

    Matthew, 36, was also insistent that the whole family be together for the game. 

    “Matthew was like, ’No, we will do whatever it takes. We are all getting on this plane. We are going to be together right now,’” Kelly added. 

    While in Arizona, Kelly took to social media to offer several updates on the health of her kids.

    On Saturday, Jan. 11, just two days ahead of the playoff game, Kelly shared a photo on her Instagram Stories, captured by E! News at the time, of her two daughters in a hospital bed. “Last night was long,” she wrote in the post. “Back in beds and sleeping, everyone except Hunter. Feels like she drank a Celsius.”

    “Before that tho, they were all smiles getting to go with daddy on his work trip,” she added. Kelly did not elaborate on why her kids’ had been hospitalized.

    In another photo, posted after the hospitalization, the Los Angeles Rams quarterback cuddled one of their daughters as they were pictured in an arena. “This girl ,” Kelly wrote. “In the middle of her pukes in the bathroom, ‘Mommy, are we still winning.’ She couldn’t wait to be in his arms.”

    On Sunday, Jan. 12, Kelly shared another update on two of her daughters, posting a photo from a restaurant. “Found our happy place in AZ,” she wrote, hinting that they still still weren’t quite over the flu. “I promise we are happy, just still .”

    She also shared a picture later on of all four of her girls sleeping, writing, “Never ending. My poor girls.”

    Kelly’s decision to travel to Arizona with the team and their families comes after she previously said she and the girls might vacate their home to keep Matthew safe from their germs.

    “I currently believe I have the flu. Two of my daughters have the flu,” revealed Kelly on the Jan. 9 podcast episode. She said she “can’t think straight” because of it and even “passed out on a little bench in the suite” at the Jan. 5 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

    During the podcast, Kelly said that Matthew “won’t come close to [her]” because of her sickness, which she “completely” understands. “If all my kids have the flu, I don’t think we should be in this house with him,” she told listeners.

    “I know everyone’s like, ‘Why would y’all move? There’s five of you and one of him.’ Because all of his work stuff and his film room and everything is here,” she continued. “So we would just get out of here. I think that is on the table right now.”

    Kelly added, “We have 105 fevers going around this house right now and we can’t have Matthew with that going into the playoffs,” she concluded. “So we’re going to do our best to not let him get that.”

  • Mennenga “sick of losing” and triumphs


    Christmas Day was a turning point on a number of fronts for the New Zealand Breakers and that’s when Sam Mennenga decided that the only way to get over being sick of losing was to take on more responsibility himself.

    By the time the Breakers lost to the Tasmania JackJumpers on Christmas Day by 15 points, things were about as low as they could get with the eight consecutive defeats, and then Parker Jackson-Cartwright being suspended for five games.

    It had the potential to be a disastrous rest of the season, but they have now played six strong games since for two wins and it easily could have been a couple more.

    The Breakers hit back on New Year’s Eve winning in Cairns and then on Thursday night won at Spark Arena for the first time since November 2.

    In between, New Zealand put in competitive performances against Brisbane, Illawarra, Melbourne and Perth that could have gone either way.

    Upon reflection, Mennenga remembers feeling after the loss on Christmas in Hobart that he was sick of losing. He hoped his teammates felt the same way, but ultimately all he could do was set the example and lift his efforts in all areas.

    “By the time Christmas came along, we had lost a few games and we had got sick and tired of losing,” Mennenga said.

    “So we started playing a little bit more like that and pieced together two or three good quarters, and we started to find some rhythm as a unit.

    “I think that’s been my mentality for these last few games because I’m actually sick of losing, and we’ve got to play like it.”

    The result has been the second-year big man producing an outstanding last three games firstly with 24 points and four rebounds against the Hawks, and then 18 points and five boards against Melbourne.

    He then had the best performance of his NBL career on Thursday in the win over Tasmania with 29 points and nine rebounds on a mighty efficient 13/15 shooting from the floor and going 3/4 from downtown.

    Mennenga started his first season in New Zealand after beginning his NBL career with Cairns with a brilliant HoopsFest performance with 22 points and seven rebounds.

    It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for the 23-year-old since, but one thing you could never question is his pride in representing the Breakers and how much he cared.

    “I took it upon myself to do a better job helping this team by leading by example, and focusing on the energy plays, physicality and really bringing the fight to whoever we’re playing,” Mennenga added.

    “That’s allowed me to find a good rhythm and a flow, and play off my teammates well. We’re going to continue to do that, but for me the biggest thing was leading by example with the energy, the effort and the fight.

    “We struggled with some ups and downs this season, but I think showing the guys that we’re never out of everything, and playing with pride has been the biggest emphasis.”

    Above everything else what the win over the JackJumpers was for Mennenga and his Breakers teammates was validation that their work is starting to pay off.

    “It feels validating when this team goes through the stretch that we went through, sticks together and fights every day,” Mennenga said.

    “There’s a lot we do behind the scenes, in the gym and everything like that, and this just validates what we’re doing and makes us understand why we do it. Everyone’s feeling good and enjoying this feeling while recovering, and hopefully we can keep this going.”

    Speaking of Mennenga, coach Petteri Koponen has always had faith in what he can do and was glad to see it come together stemming from his defensive efforts.

    “It was a great performance and one of the big reasons we won, and with Sam tonight he was really unbelievable in the defensive end,” Koponen said.

    “It all started there, he set the tone there with the physicality, being on time with the shows and then offensively the guys found him and Sam made big shots, and was making plays.

    “We always knew the talent is there but the focus, concentration and leading by example and focusing on the right things made it a great performance overall.

    “Sam is one of the hardest workers in the team, he’s always there early and taking extra shots, and trying to get better which is the key. He’s still a young guy trying to take the next step and that’s the way to do it.”
