Conor McGregor meets Brook Lopez on sideline during Bucks game
Former UFC star Conor McGregor happened to be in Salt Lake City on Monday, and he wound up chatting live with Fan Duel Sports Network reporter Melanie Ricks during the broadcast of the Milwaukee Bucks’ battle with the Utah Jazz at the Delta Center.
After the interview, McGregor also stopped by the Bucks bench and visited briefly with center Brook Lopez … all while the game was happening on the court. As Bucks point guard Damian Lillard was lining up a free throw, cameras caught McGregor shaking hands with Lopez and asking how tall Lopez was, prompting the veteran center to stand up and demonstrate his 7-footness.
The Ultimate Fighting great McGregor happens to stand 5-feet-9-inches tall.
“He asked me to stand up, and I did,” Lopez said afterward. “I knew at that point, once I got up, I had to size him up. I had to do a little something. I’ve seen the (pre-fight) face-offs before, so I had to do my part. If something’s going to happen, maybe Dame can be my promoter, Dame can be my manager or whatever, teach me to fight. Because I’ve got nothing. I’ve got nothing. So I’m going to rely on Dame for that.”
Don’t mind McGregor as he takes a step or two on the court before the free throw.

During the interview, Ricks shared with McGregor that Lillard is a longtime fan of boxing, a sport in which McGregor has dabbled. Lillard also trains and attends the fights. McGregor said Lillard looked “familiar.”
McGregor also stars in the 2024 movie Road House.
“I’m here for that, absolutely,” Lopez said when it was suggested he could share a screen with McGregor, if not a ring. “I’m quite theatrical.”
The brash McGregor hasn’t participated in an official fight since 2021, when he suffered a broken leg, but he remains a popular personality, posing for selfies with members of the crowd throughout the evening.
He’s also been in the news for more dubious reasons. Earlier this month, a woman filed a lawsuit against McGregor, alleging that he sexually assaulted her after a game during the 2023 NBA Finals.

Conor McGregor, the notorious MMA fighter, made a surprise appearance at the Milwaukee Bucks game last night as he met with Brook Lopez on the sideline. The two sports stars exchanged pleasantries and posed for photos, much to the delight of fans in attendance. McGregor, known for his trash-talking and larger-than-life personality, seemed to be in good spirits as he chatted with Lopez, who is a standout player for the Bucks.
It’s always exciting when different worlds collide, and seeing McGregor and Lopez together at a basketball game was certainly a memorable moment. Who knows, maybe we’ll see a collaboration between the two athletes in the future. Stay tuned for more updates!

#Conor #McGregor #meets #Brook #Lopez #sideline #Bucks #gameJimmy Butler suspension: Heat sideline star indefinitely without pay after he walks out of shootaround
The Miami Heat are suspending star forward Jimmy Butler indefinitely, CBS Sports NBA insider Bill Reiter confirmed Monday. The decision came after Butler walked out of a shootaround ahead of Monday’s game against the Orlando Magic. Butler — who has been publicly trying to force a trade out of Miami for weeks — left practice after he was informed that Haywood Highsmith would be replacing him in the starting lineup moving forward, according to ESPN.
The Heat said they are suspending Butler for a minimum of five games, which will take the team through the Feb. 6 trade deadline. They added that Butler’s latest suspension comes without pay, and the Heat say the veteran star was “intentionally withholding services.”
The Miami Heat are suspending Jimmy Butler without pay effective immediately for an indefinite period to last no fewer than five games,” the team wrote in a statement. “The suspension is due to a continued pattern of disregard of team rules, engaging in conduct detrimental to the team and intentionally withholding services. This includes walking out of practice earlier today.”
This is the third suspension the Heat have issued Butler this month. The first, a seven-game suspension that came earlier in January, was for conduct detrimental to the team following his initial trade request. The second, which came last week, was two games for missing a team flight. Butler was initially expected to return to the fold on Monday against the Magic.
Notably, this is not the first time Butler has been involved in a practice incident while trying to get traded. When he was a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves during training camp in 2018, he infamously played a practice scrimmage with reserves against the starting lineup in order to prove a point. Afterward, he held a televised interview with Rachel Nichols. He was eventually traded to the Philadelphia 76ers during the season.
Butler is still on the trade block but his path to his preferred destination, the Phoenix Suns, is precarious. Not only would the Suns need to find a taker for Bradley Beal’s supermax contract, but they’d need Beal to agree to a trade given his no-trade clause. Phoenix has been by far the most aggressive Butler suitor this season, but if a Suns deal can’t be reached, both Butler and the Heat will need to look elsewhere.
Butler has a player option for next season worth $52.4 million. And given how little cap space exists on the open market this summer, he seems likely to exercise the option and stay out of unrestricted free agency. That means that if a trade can’t be reached ahead of the trade deadline, Butler may well be forced to return to the Heat in the summer.
Given his latest suspension, his place on the team is seemingly growing increasingly untenable. Perhaps that makes a trade more likely in the next 10 days, but for now, Butler won’t be playing for anyone.
The Miami Heat have announced that star player Jimmy Butler has been suspended indefinitely without pay after he walked out of a team shootaround. The incident occurred earlier today, leaving the team without one of their key players for an undetermined amount of time.Butler, known for his fiery personality and competitive nature, has had run-ins with coaches and teammates in the past. This latest incident has raised concerns about his commitment to the team and his willingness to adhere to team rules and protocols.
The Heat organization has not released any further details about the suspension or what led to Butler’s actions. Fans and analysts alike are left speculating about the future of the All-Star player and how this will impact the team’s performance moving forward.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

UConn’s Dan Hurley doubles down after latest sideline eruption at an official, blames cameras for only showing him
Dan Hurley went off again on Tuesday night, and then his team nearly blew a very winnable game in overtime at home to Butler.
The UConn head coach then, after absolutely berating an official in the first half of their 80-78 overtime win against the Bulldogs, found a way to blame the cameras for his outburst. Though, just before doing so, he admitted that he was going to “sound like an a**hole here.”
This was UConn Head Coach Dan Hurley’s response when asked about saying “Don’t turn your back on me. I’m the best coach in the ***ing sport” to a referee. pic.twitter.com/Gm7u3DwEpY
— The Next Round (@NextRoundLive) January 22, 2025
“I just wish they would show these other coaches losing their minds at the officials in other Big East games that I’m coaching where I look, going into a timeout when I’m not talking to officials, I see the other coaches as demonstrative as I am,” Hurley said at the XL Center on Tuesday night. “The camera obviously, I’ve created this for myself. I’m not no victim. I just wish that they would not have the camera on me 90% of the time, unless they feel like it’s driving ratings and more a**holes on Twitter that can put clips of me from a game and they go, ‘Look how big of a monster he is, he’s yelling at a ref again. What a monster.’”
Late in the first half, Hurley was spotted screaming at an official as teams began walking to their respective benches for a timeout. Hurley, upset that a foul was called on the other end, then lost it when the official turned his back to him and started ignoring him.
“Don’t turn your back on me,” Hurley can be seen screaming at the official. “I’m the best coach in the f***ing sport.”
He did not receive a technical foul for the outburst, and then the Huskies held on to beat Butler by two points in overtime. Solo Ball led the way with 23 points and six rebounds, and Alex Karaban finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists. The win pushed UConn to 14-5 and came on the heels of its home loss to Creighton on Saturday. Butler, which has won just a single Big East game this season, dropped to 8-11.
Hurley’s antics on Tuesday night are nothing new. The coach, who has led UConn to back-to-back national titles, had to be held back by his assistants multiple times at the Maui Invitational earlier this season while screaming at officials — including once where he was hit for a technical foul that led to them losing a game. Hurley even said after, despite it being the premier Thanksgiving week tournament each season, that he would never play in it or an event like it again.
But to Hurley’s credit, the Huskies are still in a great position to pull off a rare three-peat in college basketball. If they are winning games, it’s much more difficult to question his sideline behavior.
Based on his comments after Tuesday’s game, he’s not going to adjust anything, either.
UConn’s fiery head coach Dan Hurley is not one to back down from a confrontation, especially when he believes his team is being wronged. After his latest sideline eruption at an official during a recent game, Hurley is doubling down on his actions and pointing the blame at the cameras for only showing his reaction. In a post-game press conference, Hurley made it clear that he was not happy with the officiating and felt that his team was not getting a fair shake. He admitted that his emotions got the best of him, but he also emphasized that the cameras only captured his side of the story.
“I know I can get fired up on the sidelines, but I believe in fighting for my guys and standing up for what’s right,” Hurley said. “The cameras only show my reactions, but they don’t show the whole picture. I’m not the only one who gets emotional during a game.”
Hurley’s fiery demeanor and intense passion for his team have been well-documented throughout his coaching career. While some may criticize his behavior, others see it as a sign of his commitment to his players and his willingness to fight for them no matter what.
As UConn continues its season, it’s clear that Dan Hurley will not be backing down anytime soon. Despite the cameras capturing his every move, Hurley remains steadfast in his belief that his actions are in the best interest of his team.

A.J. Brown’s sideline book skyrockets to top seller on Amazon
PHILADELPHIA — Step aside, Oprah.
Philadelphia Eagles star receiver A.J. Brown could launch a book club of his own after a little sideline reading skyrocketed self-help author Jim Murphy to the hottest seller on Amazon overnight.
The Eagles wide receiver passed on the playbook and checked out an inspirational title — Brown casually ignored the action in Philadelphia’s playoff game and flipped through the pages of Murphy’s book, “Inner Excellence.”
The little-known book by the mental skills coach was listed No. 1 on Amazon’s best-sellers list as of Monday morning.
“I was not expecting that. A real gift,” Murphy said told The Associated Press by phone Monday. “I just looked at Amazon last night and it got to No. 1, so that was a surprise. It had probably never been higher than probably 8 or 9,000. In the thousands, somewhere.”
Nine thousand? Keep going. Down. Way down.
The book took the top spot on the trending list after previously being ranked 523,497th. That jump earned it another top spot on the marketplace’s movers & shakers list.
It had yet to crack the top 100 for sales in 2025, however. Mel Robbins, Rebecca Yarros, Kristin Hannah and the likes still reigned supreme there.
Brown said Sunday that his sideline read had nothing to do with frustration over his lack of involvement in the offense — he finished with only one catch for 10 yards on three targets — and added that he turned to the book to “refocus and lock in despite what may transpire in the game, good or bad.”
“I wasn’t frustrated at all. I figured that’s what y’all probably thought,” Brown said after the Eagles’ 22-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC wild-card round. “Why do you always think I be frustrated? Dang. I like to read.”
Undoubtedly fueled by Eagles fans, “Inner Excellence” was reviewed 375 times and rated 4.7 out of 5 on Amazon. For comparison, Freida McFadden’s critically acclaimed book “The Housemaid” had 431,491 reviews with a 4.5 rating yet was ranked nine spots behind it on the bestsellers list.
“AJ Brown recommended this book, so I’m looking forward to reading this. Fly Eagles Fly,” one reviewer wrote on the site.
Murphy, a former minor league outfielder in the Chicago Cubs organization, told the AP in an interview Sunday night that his phone started blowing up with texts once his book was checked out on an NFL playoff game.
After his career ended, Murphy became intrigued by the idea of learning how to teach baseball players how to have confidence under pressure.
“I spent five years full-time writing and researching the answer to that question,” Murphy said. “That became the book ‘Inner Excellence.’”
Brown, who had 67 catches for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns this season, described the lessons in the book as useful because football is “90% mental and 10% physical for me.”
Brown later shared a photo of the book on social media with several passages highlighted and underlined in yellow.
Brown said he was surprised his moment went viral because he says he often reads on the sideline, but added: “Y’all caught me that time.”
“If I score a touchdown or drop a pass, it’s something how I refocus,” Brown said. “I always revert back to the beginning of the book. It states if you can just have a clear mind and remember that nothing else matters, clear conscience, nothing matters negative or positive. You’re willing to take risks. It also says if you’re humble, you can’t be embarrassed.”
ESPN’s Tim McManus and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown’s latest venture off the football field has proven to be a huge success. Brown recently released a book titled “Sideline Secrets: Unleashing Your Inner Champion” and it has quickly become a bestseller on Amazon. The book, which offers insights into Brown’s mindset and approach to success both on and off the field, has resonated with readers looking for motivation and inspiration. Brown’s candid and relatable writing style has struck a chord with fans, who have been quick to praise the book for its practical advice and uplifting message.
In a recent interview, Brown expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans and credited his own experiences and journey for shaping the book’s content. He also hinted at the possibility of future projects in the works, further cementing his status as a multifaceted talent both on and off the football field.
With “Sideline Secrets” continuing to fly off the shelves, it’s clear that A.J. Brown’s impact reaches far beyond the gridiron. Congratulations to him on this well-deserved success!

In new sideline role, Jeff Green embraces being ‘vocal leader’ for Rockets
When Jabari Smith Jr. broke a bone in his left hand at a Jan. 3 shootaround and with Amen Thompson serving part two of a two-game NBA suspension, the Houston Rockets started Jeff Green at power forward versus the Boston Celtics.
For the 38-year-old in his 17th professional season, it was a sudden and unusual turn of events. After having a rotation role for most of last season (averaging 16.8 minutes in 78 games played), Green has played only sparingly in 2024-25, averaging just 8.5 minutes per appearance while playing in only 11 of Houston’s 37 games. Since Thompson’s return a game later, Green has largely gone back to a non-playing role near the end of the bench.
But given the emerging young talent on the Rockets (25-12), who currently sit at No. 2 in the Western Conference standings, Green understands and accepts the changes. Relative to last season, Thompson is healthier and earning significantly more frontcourt minutes, and the addition of veteran center Steven Adams has taken away some backup center minutes that previously went to Green.
In a new interview with Vanessa Richardson, courtside reporter for the Rockets on Space City Home Network (SCHN) television broadcasts, Green shared some perspective on his new role:
It’s been fun. There was a learning curve. Playing for so many years, and now not playing as much as I used to, it’s something you have to get used to. You want to be out there on the floor. You still have a competitive side.
But with the task at hand, I have to realize where I’m at. I have to be realistic, be in the moment, and be present. The shift has been good. There have been some times that I fight it, but when I’m watching the young guys go out there and compete, it’s fun. It’s been fun watching these guys compete, night in and night out, and being that vocal leader on the sideline.
The complete interview will be aired throughout the upcoming week on SCHN broadcasts and digital platforms.
In short, Green — on an expiring $8.0 million contract this season — has transitioned to a largely non-playing, veteran leadership role for head coach Ime Udoka. In some ways, it’s similar to the role big man Boban Marjanovic held for the Rockets in recent seasons, though Green offers more positional versatility and an ability to play at both center and power forward.
It remains to be seen if the Rockets will deem that role worthy of another contract beyond 2024-25, or if Green will want to continue with such an arrangement. But for now, “Uncle Jeff” is making the most of his unique situation while helping lead a young and developing team from the sidelines.
More: ‘We’re not there yet’: Why Ime Udoka turned away big names in Houston’s 2023 free agency
This article originally appeared on Rockets Wire: In new sideline role, Jeff Green remains ‘vocal leader’ for Rockets
In his new sideline role, Jeff Green has fully embraced his role as a vocal leader for the Houston Rockets. Despite being sidelined with a foot injury, Green has taken on the responsibility of encouraging and motivating his teammates from the bench.Known for his positive attitude and strong work ethic, Green has become a valuable asset to the team in this new capacity. He can be seen offering advice, cheering on his teammates, and providing guidance during timeouts and breaks in the game.
Green’s presence and leadership have not gone unnoticed by his fellow players and coaches. He has quickly established himself as a respected voice in the locker room and on the court, helping to keep the team focused and motivated during games.
While Green may not be able to contribute on the court at the moment, his impact off the court has been immeasurable. His willingness to step up and lead from the sidelines has been instrumental in keeping the team united and focused on their goals.
As the Rockets continue their season, Jeff Green’s role as a vocal leader will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their success. His positivity, experience, and leadership will continue to be a driving force for the team as they strive for greatness.

Just a few minutes before SMU basketball’s first ACC meeting with No. 4 Duke, the Blue Devils announced a key absence for Saturday’s showdown.
Duke coach Jon Scheyer didn’t travel with the team to Dallas due to illness. Associate head coach Chris Carrawell took Scheyer’s spot on the bench as acting head coach at Moody Coliseum.

Georgia’s Parker Jones flagged for running into referee on sideline during play vs. Notre Dame
Georgia walk-on cornerback Parker Jones isn’t even dressed out for Thursday’s Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame, but he still received a penalty.
Jones bumped an official who was running down the sideline after a long pass from Gunner Stockton to Arian Smith early during the second quarter. He stepped into the white area on the sideline that is reserved for officials and the official ran into him.
The pass from Stockton to Smith went for 67 yards, and Georgia would have had the ball at the Notre Dame 11. However, instead the ball was backed up to the 26.
Georgia ended up settling for a field goal on the drive. You can watch the penalty below:
There are situations where teams get sideline warnings for interfering with officials. However, ESPN rules analyst Matt Austin explained why I penalty was thrown on Georgia on this play.
“If there’s contact, yes,” Austin said when asked if a penalty needed to be called. “Because as Greg said, it’s dangerous down there. He’s running full speed to keep up with the play, to get a good spot. And if somebody gets in his way and there’s a collision, it’s extremely dangerous. So yea, that’s a good call.”
Greg Sankey floats idea of flipping Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl after delay of Notre Dame-Georgia
The terrorist attack in New Orleans early Wednesday morning forced the Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Notre Dame to be pushed back from Wednesday night to Thursday afternoon. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey joined The Paul Finebaum Show on Thursday and shared that it could impact next week’s College Football Playoff games, as well.
Sankey has reached out to College Football Playoff officials about the possibility of switching dates for the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl. As things stand, the Orange Bowl is scheduled to be played next Thursday night and the Cotton Bowl is slated to be played next Friday night.
The winner of Thursday’s Sugar Bowl will play Penn State in the Orange Bowl in Miami.
“Have I raised the issue of that potential change? I have,” Greg Sankey said. “I recognize that’s difficult. I don’t know if it is impossible. I raised that yesterday, and the focus quickly became today’s kickoff, today’s game and we’ll see what happens.”
In a controversial moment during the game between Georgia and Notre Dame, Georgia’s Parker Jones was flagged for running into a referee on the sideline during a play. The incident sparked debate among fans and analysts, with some questioning whether the penalty was warranted or if it was just an unfortunate accident. Regardless, it’s clear that Jones will need to be more careful in his positioning on the field to avoid any future incidents like this. What are your thoughts on this play?
