Desperation a factor on both sides as Mountaineers set for clash with Bearcats
CINCINNATI — West Virginia put itself in good position to earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament by winning 13 of its first 17 games, including four victories over ranked foes, three of which were in the top 10 at the time.
For that to still be the case in the near future, the Mountaineers need to put an end to a losing streak that’s stretched three games over the last two weeks.
The first opportunity comes at 2 p.m. Sunday in a matchup with Cincinnati at Fifth Third Arena that will be carried by ESPN+.
“It’s a long season and it’s a grind. We still have 11 games left, so there are lots of opportunities to go win games,” first-year WVU head coach Darian DeVries said. “They’ve put themselves in a good position to survive a stretch like this where you go through a three-game losing streak, but at some point you have to put the brakes on and we have to get back on the other side of that column. Every night, there’s an opportunity going forward where it’s a Quad 1, Quad 2-type gam, and we have to win our share of those.”
During the skid, which began with a home loss to Arizona State, continued with a setback at Kansas State and most recently included another home loss to No. 6 Houston, WVU has struggled defensively and suffered through three of its five lowest-scoring games this season.
The Mountaineers (13-7, 4-5) have fallen to 15th in scoring among Big 12 Conference teams at 70.1 points on average — one spot behind the Bearcats and their average of 71. In Big 12 play, WVU remains 15th with an average of 61 points, while UC falls to last in the league with a mark of 60.7.
West Virginia guard Javon Small remains the Big 12’s leading scorer with an average of 19.1 points, though he’s been held in check twice during the skid, totaling 22 points in the losses to the Sun Devils and Cougars. Small is consistently draw the bulk of attention from opposing defenses that often includes sending double teams his way in an effort to make another Mountaineer beat them.
“We did a lot of stuff tonight with Javon off the ball to try and get it back to him and get him on the move a little bit more,” DeVries said of his season-low eight-point effort against Houston, which came on only seven field-goal attempts. “Houston is a good defense and they’re able to show another guy out or switch it to keep him from coming off clean. But we did get those switches, because he was going to come off clean or get an open three and that gave us some advantages on the interior. Something to build on for us as we continue to try to find different ways to utilize all the guys that are out there.”
After trailing the Cougars 39-19 at halftime, West Virginia scored the first 11 points of the second half and was within five with more than 6 minutes remaining, before falling short down the stretch.
Still, DeVries liked much of what his team displayed over the final 20 minutes in a matchup against one of the nation’s top teams, which included disruptive defense that helped create transition offense and led to 12-for-21 shooting.
“I told them to leave this building tonight only focused on what it looked and it felt like in the second half,” DeVries said. “Make that their mindset again and approach as we go into practice and get ready for Cincinnati. That team in that 15-minute stretch, we’ll take anywhere, because they’ll go compete and line up and go do some things that can be pretty special.”
For as much as the Mountaineers are in need of a win, Cincinnati (12-8, 2-7) could be even more desperate after following up two Big 12 victories with three straight losses, including setbacks at BYU and Utah over the last week.
The Bearcats began their second season in the Big 12 with a No. 20 national ranking, but have struggled mightily since completing their non-conference schedule with 10 wins in 11 games.

Huntsman Center. Mandatory Credit: Rob Gray-Imagn Images Four players average double-figure scoring for UC, though the Bearcats do not have a player among the top 25 scoring leaders in the Big 12.
Simas Lukosius leads the squad with an average of 12.2 points. He does a large portion of his damage from the perimeter and 47 of his 85 field goals are three-pointers.
Guard Jizzle James and swingman Dan Skillings Jr. follow at 10.8 points, while Texas transfer Dillon Mitchell averages 10.6 points and provides defensive versatility with his abundance of athleticism.
With the exception of Lukosius, UC has struggled shooting from long range and its 31.7 percent shooting on triples is ahead of only TCU in the Big 12. Excluding Lukosius, the Bearcats are shooting 29.6 percent on threes.
UC has won 12 of 23 all-time meetings against the Mountaineers, including six of eight in Cincinnati and four or five at Fifth Third Arena.
The upcoming showdown between the Mountaineers and Bearcats is shaping up to be a must-watch game, with desperation playing a key factor for both teams. On one side, the Mountaineers are coming off a tough loss and are hungry for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. They know that a victory over the Bearcats could be the spark they need to turn their season around and make a push for the top spot in their conference.
Meanwhile, the Bearcats are also feeling the pressure as they look to maintain their undefeated record and solidify their spot as a top contender in the conference. They know that a loss to the Mountaineers could derail their championship aspirations and put a dent in their playoff hopes.
With both teams feeling the weight of desperation, this matchup is sure to be intense and hard-fought. Fans can expect to see a battle of wills as these two teams leave it all on the field in pursuit of victory.
Be sure to tune in to see which team will come out on top in this clash of the titans.

5 trades between the Warriors and Bulls that make sense for both sides
The Golden State Warriors have been getting tied to the Chicago Bulls in trade talks for months. With rumors continuing to fly, I decided to put together five potential trades that could make sense for both sides.
Here’s what I came up with:
1. Zach LaVine for a package without Jonathan Kuminga or Andrew Wiggins
Warriors get: Zach LaVine, Talen Horton-Tucker, Julian Phillips
Bulls get: Dennis Schröder, Gary Payton II, Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, Kevon Looney, 2025 GS 1st (Unprotected)Yes, the Warriors can take on LaVine’s salary without trading Wiggins or Kuminga and stay just below their hard cap.
It’s undeniable that LaVine is no longer viewed by the league as player who is less valuable than his salary. The question facing the Warriors and Bulls is how much has the pendulum swung? Chicago is less than six months removed from desperately trying to get LaVine’s contract off their books, and given his injury history, one unlucky break could have them right back there.
Jonathan Kuminga would undeniably be a bigger name return, but that seems off the table from Golden State’s perspective. It honestly might not be that big of a problem for Chicago either. While Kuminga is a far better scorer than Patrick Williams, there are some similarities in their career-arcs that could rightfully make the Bulls front office nervous about paying another tweener 4/3.
In this deal, the Bulls would not have to worry about getting an extension with Kuminga, or committing $25 million per year to Wiggins. Instead, they could immediately redirect as many of the players they receive to other teams for as many second-round picks as they can acquire. They should easily be able to net three second rounders, and possibly more.
It’s fair to argue that LaVine’s impact is worth more than one unprotected first and several seconds, but is there another team out there that could help the Bulls clear that much salary that quickly alongside a first-round pick that will probably fall in the 12-20 range?
Given how desperate the Bulls once were to trade LaVine, fully clearing his contract for a bevy of mid to low-value picks might be too hard to pass up. If not, it’s not out of the question that the Warriors could part with a protected 2027 first-rounder as well, perhaps recouping a second rounder or two from Chicago.
2. Just Nikola Vučević
Warriors get: Nikola Vučević, 2025 SAC 2nd, 2028 CHI 2nd
Bulls get: Gary Payton II, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters III, 2025 GS 1st (Top-5 protected)The emergence of Quinten Post may make adding a stretch big with defensive weaknesses like Vučević less appealing, which is probably why the Warriors have reportedly shifted their focus to LaVine, however, there has been enough smoke here to justify playing around with potential fits.
The hold up here is no secret. The Bulls want a first-round pick for Vučević. The Dubs have been unwilling to do tha. In this deal, the Bulls give Golden State some protections and part with a pair of second-round picks to get them across the finish line. I’d be surprised if the Warriors move in this direction for several reasons, but this seems like the way a deal gets done if the Warriors decide Vučević is their top priority at the deadline.
3. A Zach LaVine trade built around Andrew Wiggins
Warriors get: Zach LaVine
Bulls get: Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, Kevon Looney, 2025 GS 1st (Top-5 Protected), Right to first-round pick swap 2029 (Unprotected), 2025 MIA 2ndThe Warriors are making their salary cap management a lot harder by trying to acquire another player with a massive salary. Dealing Andrew Wiggins will weaken the Warriors wing depth significantly and put massive pressure on LaVine and his health. However, it also makes it far easier to make a deal work. LaVine is an undeniable upgrade (when healthy). If the Bulls aren’t open to other options, it’s probably still a deal worth pursuing.
If the Bulls are taking on Wiggins’ contract though, it’s harder to imagine Chicago accepting just one first-round pick. In this deal, the Warriors are able to hold onto their first-round picks in 2026-2028, leveraging the uncertainty that faces them in the likely post-Steph years by giving up unprotected opportunity to swap first-round picks in 2029 instead.
4. A funky Patrick Williams deal
Warriors get: Patrick Williams
Bulls get: Gary Payton II, Kyle Anderson, 2025 MIA 2ndThis out of left field idea made more sense prior to the Warriors recent wins. Williams signed a five-year, $90 million contract last offseason and has significantly regressed in Chicago to the point where they have started shopping the former-fourth overall pick. In a world where the Warriors are fully focused on the 2025-26 season, it might be worth using some of their expiring (or valuable mid-tier) deals to take a chance on Williams as a 3-and-D player to lessen their reliance on Wiggins.
5. The Complete Makeover
Warriors get: Zach LaVine, Nikola Vučević, Coby White, Torrey Craig, Talen Horton-Tucker, Julian Phillips, 2025 SAC 2nd
Bulls get: Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schröder, Gary Payton II, Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, Kevon Looney, Jonathan Kuminga, 2025 GS 1st (Unprotected), 2027 GS 1st (Top-5 protected)What are the Bulls trying to do? If the answer is a complete tear down and tank, the Warriors could conceivably give them that opportunity. Wiggins, Kuminga, two first-round picks, several second rounders and roughly $50 million in 2025-26 salary commitments off their books would be a pretty massive reset for Chicago.
The Dubs wing depth would become incredibly thin following the trade, but Curry would have the most offensive firepower helping him out in years. While Curry, LaVine, Green, and Vučević would obviosuly be locked into the starting lineup, head coach Steve Kerr would have some experimenting to do to find the fifth starter.
Is there enough scoring to reinvigorate Podziemski in the starting lineup as a high-energy distributor? Would it be worth the defensive consequences of starting White in the backcourt alongside Curry? Perhaps veteran Torrey Craig is the kind of stable small forward that would balance the lineup best. Or maybe Moses Moody (*whispers* or maybe Kevin Knox)? Nevertheless, that would be Kerr’s biggest challenge in the second half.
While the immediate impact of such a major mid-season shakeup on the 2024-25 season is hard to predict, the Warriors would undeniably be in a far better position heading into the offseason. They would already have the following depth chart under contract:
PG: Curry, White, Podziemski
SG: LaVine, Moody
SF: Philips
PF: Green, Santos
C: Vučević, Jackson-Davis, Post**Assuming Post is converted from a two-way contract.
There offseason strategy would be simple, beef up their wing depth to compliment their offensive firepower. They would also have their mid-level exception and a clear opportunity at playing time to pitch prospective free agents.
It’s easy to see why rumors have swirled around the Bulls and Warriors for months. They have several avenues to aligning on some trades that could have ripple effects around the league. With less than a week until the NBA trade deadline on February 6th, we will see whether any of these possibilities turn into a real deal.
- Warriors trade Andrew Wiggins and a future first-round pick to the Bulls for Lauri Markkanen and Thaddeus Young: The Warriors add shooting and frontcourt depth with Markkanen, while the Bulls get a versatile wing in Wiggins and a future asset.
- Warriors trade James Wiseman, Kelly Oubre Jr., and a future first-round pick to the Bulls for Zach LaVine: The Warriors upgrade their backcourt with an elite scorer in LaVine, while the Bulls get a promising young center in Wiseman and a solid wing in Oubre.
- Warriors trade Draymond Green and a future second-round pick to the Bulls for Patrick Williams and Tomas Satoransky: The Warriors add a versatile young forward in Williams and a solid backup point guard in Satoransky, while the Bulls get a veteran leader in Green to mentor their young core.
- Warriors trade Jordan Poole and Kevon Looney to the Bulls for Coby White: The Warriors add a young scoring guard in White to bolster their backcourt depth, while the Bulls get a promising young wing in Poole and a solid big man in Looney.
- Warriors trade Eric Paschall and a future second-round pick to the Bulls for Garrett Temple: The Warriors add a veteran wing in Temple to provide leadership and shooting off the bench, while the Bulls get a young forward in Paschall who can contribute right away.

Late Tuesday night, Illinois head coach Bret Bielema didn’t mince words about Jim Harbaugh and Michigan after a report said UM planned to fight the allegations in the Connor Stalions scandal. Less than 24 hours later, SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum sided with Bielema.
Bielema raised eyebrows Tuesday when he quoted an old clip of Harbaugh – then the San Francisco 49ers head coach – talking about his desire to be “above reproach” and avoid cheating. The Fighting Illini head coach then asked why Harbaugh ran to the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Bielema’s series of tweets came after Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger reported Michigan’s plan to fight the NCAA’s allegations in the Stalions investigation. Finebaum agreed with him, though, and called Harbaugh a “disingenuous fraud” in the process.
“I’ve always liked Bret,” Finebaum said on The Paul Finebaum Show Wednesday. “He was fun when we were together. But he is right. Harbaugh is just a disingenuous fraud about all the things he used to say. He didn’t want to face the music. By the way, Michigan didn’t really want him to stay.”
A few minutes after his initial tweet, Bielema found another clip of an old Harbaugh quote. This one was Harbaugh explaining it’s important to tell the truth, especially when being considered a leader. He used an example of his favorite daytime television judge to get his point across too. Bielema chose three emojis to make his point in a repost.
“Be honest,” Harbaugh said in the video. “Tell the truth. If I want them to tell the truth then I have to tell the truth all the time when you’re in a leadership position. Judge Judy, I got 90 episodes of Judge Judy tivoed on my TV and that’s what I watch. One thing about her courtroom is — if you lie in Judge Judy’s courtroom, it’s over.”
According to the 137-page document obtained by Yahoo Sports, Michigan pushed back on many of the allegations. The school also accused the NCAA of “grossly overreaching” and “wildly overcharging” the program with a lack of credible evidence about the alleged sign-stealing scheme run by Stalions. The person who tipped off the NCAA to the situation came from UM’s campus and, at one point, worked for the school, the document said.
Michigan received an official Notice of Allegations from the NCAA in August, but the school said it made “numerous factually unsupported infractions, exaggerates aggravating factors and ignores mitigating facts,” according to the document. UM also asked the NCAA to treat the case as a “Level II standard case” instead of a Level I infraction – which is the most severe NCAA violation – and apply “common sense and [a] commitment to fairness.”
Griffin McVeigh contributed to this report.
In a surprising turn of events, SEC analyst Paul Finebaum has come out in support of former Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema’s recent comments about Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.Bielema, now the defensive line coach for the New York Giants, called Harbaugh a “disingenuous fraud” in a recent interview with The Athletic. He claimed that Michigan didn’t want Harbaugh to stay and that he was only using the school as a stepping stone to get back to the NFL.
Finebaum, known for his controversial opinions and heated debates on his radio show, took to Twitter to express his agreement with Bielema’s assessment of Harbaugh. He tweeted, “I have to agree with Bret Bielema on this one. Jim Harbaugh’s tenure at Michigan has been underwhelming, and it’s clear that the school didn’t do everything in its power to keep him there. Harbaugh’s time in Ann Arbor may be coming to an end soon.”
This unexpected support from Finebaum is sure to stir up even more controversy and debate among college football fans. It remains to be seen how Harbaugh and Michigan will respond to these damning accusations from two respected figures in the football world. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Graham says ‘a good chance’ Supreme Court sides with Trump on birthright citizenship
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he believes there is a “good chance” the Supreme Court will side with President Trump on the issue of birthright citizenship.
Graham joined NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, where host Kristen Welker asked him about Trump’s executive order on citizenship, which a federal judge temporarily blocked.
“I think there’s a good chance,” Graham said of the Supreme Court taking up the case. “I introduced legislation to end birthright citizenship years ago.”
Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship has divided Republicans, highlighting their internal differences on the immigration-related topic.
Some conservatives who believe the citizenship pathway has been abused are siding with Trump, while some moderates are concerned about changing the constitutional right that has existed for more than 150 years.
U.S. District Court Judge John Coughenour, a Reagan appointee, agreed to a request that blocked Trump’s birthright citizenship executive order from taking effect for 14 days, calling it “blatantly unconstitutional.”
Graham, a supporter of Trump’s immigration plan, argued birthright citizenship is a wrong way for people to receive U.S. status.
“I think it’s a cheap way to award citizenship,” he said. “You should not be a citizen simply because you were born here.”

In a recent statement, Senator Lindsey Graham expressed his belief that there is a ‘good chance’ the Supreme Court will side with President Trump on the issue of birthright citizenship. The controversial debate surrounding whether children born to non-citizen parents on U.S. soil are automatically granted citizenship has been a hot topic in recent years.Graham, a staunch supporter of the President, believes that the Supreme Court will ultimately rule in favor of Trump’s stance on birthright citizenship. He argues that the current interpretation of the 14th Amendment, which grants citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States, does not apply to children of undocumented immigrants.
This statement comes as the Trump administration continues to crack down on immigration policies and push for stricter border control measures. The outcome of this case could have major implications for the future of immigration laws in the United States.
As the debate rages on, it remains to be seen how the Supreme Court will ultimately rule on this contentious issue. Stay tuned for updates as the case unfolds.

The American Revolution is one of the most pivotal moments in American history, and it is often portrayed as a heroic struggle for freedom and independence. However, the reality is much more complex, with two sides fighting for their own beliefs and interests. In this post, we will explore the American Revolution from both perspectives – that of the American colonists led by George Washington, and that of the British government led by King George III.On one side, we have George Washington, the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and a key figure in the American Revolution. Washington and his fellow colonists believed in the principles of liberty, democracy, and self-determination. They saw themselves as fighting against tyranny and oppression, and their cause was fueled by a deep desire for independence from British rule. Washington’s leadership and strategic brilliance were instrumental in securing victory for the American colonies, and his legacy as the father of the nation is still celebrated today.
On the other side, we have King George III, the monarch of Great Britain at the time of the American Revolution. From the British perspective, the colonies were seen as a valuable source of revenue and resources, and the British government sought to maintain control over them. King George III viewed the colonists’ rebellion as an act of treason and sought to suppress it by any means necessary. The British army, led by General Cornwallis, carried out brutal campaigns against the American rebels, leading to widespread destruction and loss of life.
Ultimately, the American Revolution was a complex and multifaceted conflict, with both sides fighting for their own beliefs and interests. While the American colonists achieved their goal of independence, the British government suffered a significant blow to its global power and influence. The legacy of the American Revolution continues to shape the world we live in today, reminding us of the importance of fighting for freedom and justice.

Megyn Kelly is having a harder and harder time siding with Blake Lively with each new piece of information released amid her and Justin Baldoni’s “It Ends With Us” legal skirmish.
On Wednesday’s episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show,” the host zeroed in on behind-the-scenes footage during production on “It Ends With Us” released by Baldoni and his legal team on Tuesday. The 10-minute footage shows Lively and Baldoni dancing in one of the film’s romantic scenes cited in Lively’s original complaint. The video shows them being flirtatious on camera but speaking and joking around out of character, discussing the scene at hand, since the scene being filmed wasn’t going to have audio.
Baldoni released the footage, claiming it disproves Lively’s complaint that characterized the moment as being riddled with unwanted sexual advances. Lively’s team responded shortly after Wednesday, calling the footage a “manufactured media stunt” that “corroborates, to the letter, what Ms. Lively described in Paragraph 48 of her Complaint.”
“This matter is in active litigation in federal court,” Lively’s statement continued. “Releasing this video to the media, rather than presenting it as evidence in court, is another example of an unethical attempt to manipulate the public.”
Kelly, however, does not think the footage aligns with how Lively painted the moment in her lawsuit.
On Thursday’s podcast, the host also stated that Lively is trying to place a gag order on Baldoni to stop him from releasing any more to the story from his point of view. The host added that if Lively was telling the truth, she wouldn’t need the gag order.
Watch the full “Megyn Kelly Show” segment below:
“Now that she’s had her shot against him, and she severely damaged him with that New York Times piece in this complaint, which she managed to get leaked, now she wants a complete gag order,” Kelly said. “Now he needs to be shut down to protect her. This is very unfair to poor Blake. Why should Justin be able to release snippets to the media without the full context? That’s what she said. That’s what she did.”
She continued, “I’m just saying this person is not an honest broker. I believe her less than ever. I actually disbelieve her fully now, and they should not be gagged. I will happily participate in releasing any further leaks that they have, because the truth should be out there. What does she have to fear if she’s telling the truth?”
Wednesday’s video is the latest salvo in a weeks-long legal dust-up between the “It Ends With Us” colleagues. Baldoni has already sued the New York Times for $250 million, citing defamation, and stated in a separate lawsuit against Lively and Ryan Reynolds that the Nicepool character in “Deadpool & Wolverine” was created to “mock” him.
Lively has accused Baldoni of improvising without an intimacy coordinator “physical intimacy that had not been rehearsed, choreographed or discussed with [her]” and of coercing her into an unplanned nude scene.

Megyn Kelly Sides With Justin Baldoni After BTS ‘It Ends With Us’ Footage With Blake Lively: ‘I Actually Disbelieve Her Fully Now’In a surprising turn of events, former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly has come out in support of actor Justin Baldoni after behind-the-scenes footage from their new film ‘It Ends With Us’ with Blake Lively was leaked online. The footage showed Lively making some controversial remarks about the film’s message, leading to backlash from fans and fellow cast members.
Kelly took to social media to express her disbelief in Lively’s comments, stating, “I actually disbelieve her fully now. It’s clear that Blake Lively does not understand the important message behind ‘It Ends With Us’ and is not taking her role seriously. Justin Baldoni’s dedication to this project is commendable, and I stand with him in his efforts to bring awareness to such an important issue.”
Fans of the film have been divided on the leaked footage, with some defending Lively’s comments as taken out of context, while others agree with Kelly that her remarks were inappropriate. Regardless, the controversy has only added to the buzz surrounding ‘It Ends With Us’, which is set to be released later this year. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
