#Kansas #basketball #signee #Darryn #Peterson #named #McDonalds #AllAmericanWatch: Oregon signee Dakorien Moore makes ridiculous, one-handed catch between two defenders
The Oregon Ducks appear to be getting something special in soon-to-be freshman wide receiver Dakorien Moore.
After a decorated high school career in Duncanville, Texas filled with jaw-dropping highlights, Moore added another to his reel on Friday night playing for Team Makai in the 2025 Polynesian Bowl.
Moore went up for a one-handed catch between two defenders, able to elude both after the catch en route to a 75-yard, game-winning touchdown. Team Makai beat Team Mauka, 28-21, in front of a rowdy crowd of fans in Honolulu that included Heisman winner Travis Hunter, who tried to celebrate with Moore after the touchdown.
Hunter slipped on the field, though, taking out Moore’s legs and perhaps causing some Oregon fans’ hearts to drop. Thankfully, both athletes were okay after falling, and the celebration continued.
Moore is one of Oregon’s highest-rated recruits ever, a consensus five-star prospect rated the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 4 overall player in the 2025 class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Detroit Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris traveled to the Dominican Republic. The purpose of his visit was twofold: to welcome the team’s newest international players and to show support for the team’s international scouts.
During the trip, Harris shook hands with Cris Rodriguez.
Harris thinks Rodriguez rakes.
Latin American scouting director Miguel Garcia agrees.
“Definitely he’s got the ability to hit for average, and he’s going to develop legit power down the road,” said Garcia, who led the scouting efforts when the Florida Marlins signed Miguel Cabrera in 1999 and has worked for the Tigers since 2005. “His frame, his body and the projection that he has leads us to believe that definitely he’s going to hit for power.”
ELITE RAW POWER:Tigers sign international prospect Cris Rodriguez to franchise-record $3.2 million bonus
The Tigers signed Rodriguez — a 16-year-old right-handed hitting outfielder from the Dominican Republic — for a franchise-record $3.2 million bonus ($3,197,500, to be exact) when the 2025 international signing period began Wednesday morning. The teenager put pen to paper in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Rodriguez, who turns 17 on Jan. 28, is ranked No. 4 by Baseball America, No. 4 by MLB Pipeline and No. 9 by FanGraphs among all prospects in the 2025 international class, which is led by Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki.
He will spend the 2025 season in the Dominican Summer League.
“The physical ability we believe to be special,” said assistant general manager Rob Metzler, the second-highest-ranking executive in attendance when Rodriguez signed with the Tigers. “We love the bat speed, the power, the bat path. We love the athleticism, the frame, the natural projection.
“I’d follow that up by saying we feel strongly about the kid. Work ethic, character, aptitude we believe to be pluses. That’s what he’s shown us over a significant amount of time. We’re excited to be able to sign him.”
DECISION TIME:Tigers didn’t meet with Japanese ace Roki Sasaki — but credit new regime for trying
The Tigers have been scouting Rodriguez for at least the past two years.
Area scout Rodolfo Peñalo, who lives full time in the Dominican Republic, identified Rodriguez, built a relationship with Rodriguez’s family and helped the Tigers sign Rodriguez. He received support along the way from scouting supervisor Oliver Arias and crosschecker Pablo Arias.
The trio of scouts received support from Garcia and international operations director Tom Moore.
“Rodolfo Peñalo did a tremendous job following his development,” Garcia said, “and we were able to evaluate him on a consistent basis. Every time we came to the country, we were able to see him in games and see how he was progressing.”
Metzler — the assistant general manager who oversees the domestic and international scouting efforts — discussed the process of signing Rodriguez, which involved almost every department in the Tigers’ organization.
It didn’t used to be that way.
“How do you build relationships? It takes time,” Metzler said. “Up and down the scouting staff and then, more recently, connectivity, more access to different parts of the organization, as we’ve been able to do that, has been very beneficial to build this relationship.”
To clarify, Metzler was referring to significant changes in how the Tigers function on a day-to-day basis since Harris took control of baseball operations in September 2022 (replacing fired general manager Al Avila). After that, Harris hired Metzler to oversee amateur scouting in October 2022.
A DEEP DIVE:Can Tigers improve results with prospects signed from international market?
The changes to the process have allowed the Tigers to gain a better understanding about what every individual player plan will look like from all perspectives, such as skill development, strength and conditioning, performance science, nutrition and medical, among other things.
The Tigers are more connected than ever before.
“This was a full departmental and full organizational effort for something like this to come together,” Metzler said. “I thought this department and the staff worked tremendously well together.”
All of the changes started in the front office.
That’s why it was important when Harris showed face Wednesday in the Dominican Republic, not only to welcome Rodriguez and other international signees but also to spend time with the international scouts.
“There should be a lot of handshakes and pats on the back for all of the effort that went into something like this,” Metzler said. “I would also highlight that we believe in Cris’ ability, but this is one step along a hard and challenging journey.”
Jose Ramirez, Carlos Benavides, Anderson Diaz
For Rodriguez, the Tigers spent 42% of their $7.6 million bonus pool ($7,555,500, to be exact) for the entire 2025 international signing period, from Jan. 15 to Dec. 15.

The Tigers also signed two other players on Baseball America’s top-100 list for international prospects in the 2025 class: Venezuelan center fielder Jose Ramirez (No. 54) and Venezuelan catcher Carlos Benavides (No. 62).
Ramirez, 16, signed for $900,000; Benavides, 17, signed for $800,000.
Here’s what Garcia said about Ramirez, a right-handed hitting center fielder: “He has some catching experience in the past. We’re signing him as a center fielder. He’s a plus runner. He’s going to have a plus arm down the road. He is definitely a guy that will develop some gap-to-gap power. He has an ability to hit for average. He’s an athlete. The way that he moves around makes us believe that he’s going to be able to play center field in Comerica Park.”
Here’s what Garcia said about Benavides, a right-handed hitting catcher: “He is a kid from Venezuela, but he has been developing here in the Dominican Republic for the last two years. Good defensive tools, and his bat is his calling card. His baseball IQ is pretty advanced for his age. He’s definitely a kid that will give you everything he has in order to play the game in the right way.”
The top three prospects — Rodriguez ($3.2 million), Ramirez ($900,000) and Benavides ($800,000) — cost a combined $4.9 million, using up nearly 65% of the bonus pool.
Another notable addition: The Tigers signed Venezuelan left-hander Anderson Diaz, who has been training at the academy operated by agent Felix Olivo that produced MLB lefties Martín Pérez and José Castillo.
Diaz, 17, signed for $450,000.
His fastball averages 94 mph.
Here’s what Garcia said about Diaz, a left-handed pitcher: “We followed him for like a year. We saw his development. When we first saw him, he was like 5 feet 9. Now this kid is 6-3 with a really interested type of body to develop and handle the workload for a young arm. We’re excited. He’s got close to an average fastball right now, and he’s got a really good feel for pitching.”

#Top #international #signee #Cris #Rodriguez #specialReport: Oregon quarterback signee Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele to enter transfer portal.
One of Oregon football’s top signees from the Class of 2025 is reportedly entering the transfer portal just weeks after enrolling early.
Four-star incoming freshman quarterback Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele is expected to enter the portal this weekend, according to a report from Brandon Huffman of 247Sports. The top recruit out of Hawaii flipped his commitment from California to Oregon on signing day and had already enrolled at UO, practicing with the Ducks in the lead-up to their Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State.
The reason for Sagapolutele’s sudden transfer is unclear. Players from teams eliminated from the Jan. 1 bowl games have a five-day window to enter the portal, and that apparently includes brand new arrivals to college programs.
Sagapolutele was the No. 9 quarterback and No. 88 overall player in the country according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, rated a four-star prospect by 247 but a five-star by other recruiting sites. He finished his high school career as the state of Hawaii’s all-time leading passer with 10,653 yards, surpassing former Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
Oregon also signed four-star quarterback Akili Smith Jr. (California) from the 2025 class.

The news comes just weeks after Sagapolutele signed his letter of intent to play for the Ducks.
Sagapolutele, a highly touted recruit out of Hawaii, was expected to compete for the starting quarterback job at Oregon. However, it appears that he has had a change of heart and is now looking for a new opportunity elsewhere.
This decision leaves Oregon in a bit of a bind, as they now have to find a replacement for Sagapolutele at the quarterback position. It’s unclear at this time what led to his decision to enter the transfer portal, but it’s clear that the Ducks will have to move quickly to find a solution.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Oregon four-star QB signee Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele expected to enter transfer portal
Ewa Beach (Hawaii) Campbell quarterback Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele, who signed with the Ducks and enrolled at Oregon in December, is expected to enter the transfer portal, sources told 247Sports. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder flipped from Cal to Oregon on Signing Day Dec. 4.
He took his talents to the Ducks as the class of 2025’s No. 106 overall prospect, No. 8 quarterback and No. 1 player in Hawaii.
“It’s not very often that you get to this point and you don’t know which way it’s leaning or where it’s at,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said of Sagapolutele Dec. 4. “What I did know was where Jaron’s heart was this whole time. I think the process started a little bit later here for us, his heart was wanting to be here at Oregon, and I’m really excited about him and what he’ll bring to the table for us.”
When Sagapolutele signed with Oregon, he was a key cog in the Ducks’ elite Big Ten recruiting class. Oregon also signed San Diego Lincoln Top247 quarterback Akili Smith Jr.
It looked like Cal would keep Sagapolutele after fending off a charge from Georgia, where he twice canceled visits, and Oregon. But the Ducks, his childhood favorite, ultimately landed him.
“I thought highly of (Sagapolutele) when I’d watch him when I’d go back home and throw,” said Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who is from Mililani (Hawaii) High. “But I think when I saw him at the Elite 11 around the top-level guys, the dude can sling it. He’s got pop behind his arm. Of course, I’m a little biased with him being a lefty. But also, it wouldn’t take anyone to see it. Just go watch this kid throw live. He’s got pop. He can sling it with the best of them.
“More importantly, I know what type of kid he is and being from Hawaii. I’m proud of him. I think there’s maybe a little pipeline starting, hopefully. But, no pressure coach Lanning.”
Since Sagapolutele already enrolled at Oregon in December after signing, Sagapolutele is expected to enter the portal instead of needing to request a release.
Players in bowls after Dec. 28 have five days following their final game to enter the portal, so Sagapolutele has until the weekend, but is expected to be in before.
As one of the 2025 cycle’s top passers, Sagapolutele is likely to have suitors for him once he’s in the portal.
“Sagapolutele has clearly established himself as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks this offseason,” 247Sports national scouting analyst Greg Biggins said in Sagapolutele’s July 7 evaluation. “He has really had a great spring and summer including a recent top-11 finish at the prestigious Elite 11 Finals. You can make an argument he has the strongest arm in the country but doesn’t just throw all fastballs and has really improved in his ability to change speeds and throw with touch.
“His deep-ball accuracy is among the best in the country as well and he can really layer the football into tight windows. His release is smooth and tight and he has improved in his ability to make quick decisions and get the ball out on time. … All the physical tools are there and Keawe Sagapolutele has a very high ceiling and NFL potential if he continues to develop at his current rate.”
The Oregon Ducks football program received a blow as four-star quarterback signee Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele is expected to enter the transfer portal. The talented recruit was seen as a key addition to the team’s future, but it appears he has decided to explore other opportunities.Sagapolutele, a highly touted prospect from Hawaii, was expected to compete for the starting quarterback job in the coming years. However, with his decision to enter the transfer portal, it remains uncertain where he will end up next.
Oregon fans are disappointed to see Sagapolutele go, as they had high hopes for his potential impact on the team. It will be interesting to see where he lands and how he performs at his next destination.
Stay tuned for more updates on Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele’s transfer journey.
