  • Team Cherry Gives Update on Hollow Knight: Silksong

    Summary

    • Team Cherry’s head of marketing and publishing says that Hollow Knight: Silksong “is real, progressing, and will release.”
    • The game was first announced in February 2019, with the developer providing very few details since.
    • Some fans believe that the game will launch alongside the Switch 2.

Australian indie developer Team Cherry has released a brief update regarding the long-awaited Metroidvania game Hollow Knight: Silksong. The title has become somewhat of a meme in the gaming world, as a release window for Hollow Knight: Silksong remains a mystery almost six years after it was first announced.

In 2017, Team Cherry released Hollow Knight, a game tasking players with controlling a silent warrior as they explore a fallen underground kingdom and battle numerous difficult bosses. The indie title became a huge success and was praised by critics and players alike for its art style, music, and level of difficulty, prompting Team Cherry to quickly begin work on DLC for the game. However, the project continued to grow in size and scope, eventually transforming into a separate sequel. Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially announced by the studio in February 2019, but six years later, a release date still hasn’t been announced, with fans of the original starting to lose patience.

Silksong Shouldn’t Let Hollow Knight Bosses Go To Waste

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s predecessor has much it can offer to help improve its sequel, and boss fights could be one of those things.

Team Cherry has offered fans a tidbit of hope in a new Twitter post. In response to a fan questioning if the game was still in development, the studio’s head of marketing and publishing, Matthew Griffin, stated that Hollow Knight: Silksong “is real, progressing, and will release.” While no further details were given, the post has many players hopeful that more news about the project will be revealed sometime in 2025. Notably, Hollow Knight: Silksong didn’t appear at Gamescom 2024 or The Game Awards 2024, further frustrating those who have been waiting over half a decade for its release.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Remains in Active Development

Due to the lengthy wait, many fans have posturized that Hollow Knight: Silksong may be in development hell, though this was disputed by a playtester in June 2024. Team Cherry had initially planned to release the game during the first half of 2023, but later claimed that more time was needed, providing fans with no details as to the state of the title at the time. When the game does eventually release, players will take on the role of “Hornet,” a new character, as they explore the haunted kingdom of Pharloom. The developers have confirmed that the title will be much larger than Hollow Knight, with over 100 different checkpoints and around 165 new enemies.

While news regarding the highly anticipated sequel remains scarce, some believe that Hollow Knight: Silksong may be coming to the Switch 2, theorizing that Team Cherry may be optimizing the title for the recently revealed console. Others hope that an update will come on February 14, as this was the date that the game was first announced in 2019. As rumors and theories continue to blossom across the internet, hopes remain high that Hollow Knight: Silksong will make its way into players’ hands sometime in 2025.

Exciting news for all Hollow Knight fans! Team Cherry has just released a much-anticipated update on the highly anticipated sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong.

In their latest blog post, Team Cherry shared some new insights into the development process of Silksong. The team also announced that they will be hosting a special livestream event in the coming weeks, where they will showcase some gameplay footage and provide more details about the game’s story and characters.

After months of speculation and anticipation surrounding the Hollow Knight: Silksong ARG, it seems that fans may have been grasping at straws. The alternate reality game, which was believed to be dropping hints and clues about the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved indie game Hollow Knight, ultimately led to dead ends and false leads.

  • Hollow Knight: Silksong Dev Insists ‘The Game Is Real, Progressing, and Will Release’ as Fans Obsess Over a Picture of Chocolate Cake

Hollow Knight fans have been through the wringer recently, with cryptic X/Twitter activity from one developer sparking rampant speculation that the hotly anticipated follow-up Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally re-emerge at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct in April — and potentially even release on Nintendo’s next-gen console as a timed launch exclusive.

It all started when supersleuths on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that on January 15, co-director of Team Cherry William Pellen had changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a picture of a chocolate cake. Alongside this, Pellen tweeted: “something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow.”

At the time, Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal was rumored for January 16, and so it proved — that was the day Nintendo finally announced the Switch 2. Had Pellen really asked followers to keep an eye out for the Switch 2 reveal? If so, why?

Fans then reverse-searched the picture of the cake, leading them to a recipe for Brooklyn Blackout Cake on cooking website Bon Appétit. The date the recipe was published: April 2, 2024. The date of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is April 2, 2025.

Fans also wondered what Pellen’s new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr, meant, if anything. Redditor Representative-True speculated that the “wr” in “everydruidwaswr” was the start of a word, perhaps “wrong,” or perhaps stands for “was wrong,” and pointed to the Druid of the Moss Temple Silksong NPC as evidence of… something.

Pellen had a new X/Twitter name to go along with the new handle and profile picture: “little bomey.” Fans noticed Little Boomey is a wine from Southern Australia, where Team Cherry is based, but the spelling is different. The upshot of all this was that some fans thought Pellen had kicked off a Silksong alternate reality game (ARG), but over the weekend comments appeared to pour cold water on this theory.

First, Hollow Knight YouTuber fireb0rn tweeted to say Team Cherry marketing and publishing chief Matthew ‘Leth’ Griffin had got in touch “to confirm there was no Silksong ARG and that the changes to William’s account and the tweet were a nothingburger. Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie.”

And in a post on the Hollow Knight Discord, Griffin backed this up, saying: “It wasn’t [an ARG]. But it was still some impressive sleuthing skills by the fans… like ya’ll are WAY beyond those 2020 riddles now.”

Griffin himself followed up to respond to one fan who wondered if Team Cherry had given up on Hollow Knight: Silksong. “Yes the game is real, progressing and will release,” Griffin tweeted.

This has done little to calm all the speculation, as you can perhaps imagine. And at the time of this article’s publication, Pellen’s tweet remains online. Pellen himself has yet to explain whatever his X/Twitter activity is all about, either.

It’s worth remembering that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, Team Cherry confirmed the launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. But that was six years ago. We have a few months to find out what this all means, but in the meantime, check out everything announced at Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal.

Fans of the highly anticipated game Hollow Knight: Silksong have been eagerly awaiting news of its release, and a recent post from the game’s developer is sure to calm their nerves. In a statement released today, Team Cherry insisted that “The game is real, progressing, and will release.”

This assurance comes at a time when fans have been dissecting every piece of information they can find about the game, including a recent picture of a delicious chocolate cake that was shared on social media. • Silksong fans believe creator’s Switch 2 tease points to April game announcement – and it’s all thanks to a slice of cake

Desperate Silksong fans believe a new ARG hinting at the long-awaited game’s release date has begun, involving the Nintendo Switch 2 and a slice of cake.

Let’s break it down. Two days ago, Hollow Knight and Silksong co-creator William Pellen updated his social media handle, profile name and picture on X.

His handle is now @everydruidwaswr, his name is now “little bomey” and his profile picture is a slice of cake. It’s this slice of cake which fans have now linked to Switch 2.

Why? Well, Pellen went on to tweet: “something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow”. Tomorrow meaning the 16th January – which was of course when Switch 2 was announced.

So maybe Pellen was just in the know, as a lot of people were, about the Switch 2 reveal? Or, Silksong fans say, maybe there’s more!

A Google reverse image search on the slice of cake image does throw up something odd: that it comes from a recipe page posted on 2nd April 2024. That’s exactly a year ahead of 2nd April 2025, when Nintendo will hold a huge Switch 2 Nintendo Direct and unveil the console’s game line-up properly.

Could it be deliberate? Over on the Silksong reddit, fans say developer Team Cherry has dropped similarly labyrinthine hints previously. Fans also reason that an appearance in the Switch 2 Direct would be a reasonable place for the game to finally materialise.

Silksong’s launch made Eurogamer’s list of our most anticipated moments of 2025 – if it actually launches this year, following years of delays.

“Silksong is the fast-paced and fluid sequel Hollow Knight deserves,” we said after playing a demo of the game – all the way back in 2019.

Silksong fans have been eagerly awaiting news on the highly anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight, and a recent tease from the game’s creator has sparked new excitement. Team Cherry recently shared a photo on Twitter of a slice of cake with the caption “Switch 2,” leading fans to believe that an announcement for Silksong could be coming soon.

Many fans have speculated that the reference to “Switch 2” could be hinting at an upcoming announcement for the game on the Nintendo Switch. With the cake slice appearing to be in the shape of a “2,” fans are hopeful that an April game announcement could be on the horizon.

While Team Cherry has not confirmed any specific details about a release date for Silksong, the recent tease has given fans renewed hope that they may finally get to dive into the world of Silksong in the near future. Keep an eye out for any further announcements from Team Cherry, and in the meantime, enjoy this slice of cake as a tasty reminder of what’s to come.

  • Unless this cake is lying to you Silksong will reappear in April

Team Cherry’s long-awaited metroidvania Hollow Knight: Silksong will be re-revealed in April, if you believe a bunch of frantic reddit posts about cake. The standard practice when writing up such fan theorising is to walk you through it step by step, peeling back the layers like Inspector Clouseau. But I know that you are a busy person, so I will jam it all into a single sentence: a Twitter account purporting to be a Silksong developer has posted a tweet that seemingly predicts the Switch 2 announcement while using a profile picture of some cake taken from a recipe book that was published on 2nd April 2024 which is exactly a year before 2nd April 2025 which is the date of the Nintendo Direct teased in the Switch 2 announcement.

  • Hollow Knight: Silksong Dev Fuels Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Fever With a Picture of a Chocolate Cake

It’s been six years since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the eagerly awaited sequel to 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece Hollow Knight. In those years fans have seen Silksong pop up and fail to pop up at various shows, and at one point Microsoft even appeared to confirm the game would launch before June 2023. The Game Awards have been and gone with no Hollow Knight: Silksong. But could the just-announced Nintendo Switch 2 Direct finally be the one?

Fans think so, and it’s all because of a picture of a cake. Allow me to explain.

Supersleuths on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that on January 15, co-director of Team Cherry William Pellen had changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a picture of a chocolate cake. Pellen tweeted: “something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow.”

At the time, Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal was rumored for January 16, and so it proved. That was the day Nintendo finally announced the Switch 2, although there are still a number of burning questions we have about the next-gen console. Had Pellen really asked followers to keep an eye out for the Switch 2 reveal? If so, why?

This is the point where the Hollow Knight community went into overdrive — or off the deep end, depending on your point of view. Fans reverse-searched the picture of the cake, which led them to a recipe for Brooklyn Blackout Cake on cooking website Bon Appétit. The date the recipe was published: April 2, 2024.

    null
Is the cake a lie? Image credit: Bon Appétit.

Why would that date be important here? Because Nintendo has confirmed Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 will air on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. That’s right, fans think Pellen has kicked off a Silksong alternate reality game (ARG) with that tweet and that picture of the cake.

Fans haven’t stopped there. They’re currently trying to work out what Pellen’s new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr, means, if anything. Redditor Representative-True has the best theory I’ve seen so far: “The character limit on Twitter handles is 15 characters, which is the length of ‘everydruidwaswr.’ I think “wr” is likely the start of a word, like wrong or something. I have yet to decipher this, but the Druid of the Moss Temple is a Silksong NPC.”

The plot thickens! Pellen has a new X/Twitter name to go along with the new handle and profile picture: little bomey. What’s that about? Fans have noticed Little Boomey is a wine from Southern Australia, where Team Cherry is based, but the spelling is different. What could it mean?!

It’s worth remembering that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, Team Cherry confirmed launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. But that was six years ago. Has Nintendo snapped up Hollow Knight: Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? Is it a timed exclusive? Is this all just bonkers behavior from information-starved fans?

We have a few months to find out. In the meantime, check out everything announced at Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal.

As fans eagerly await news of the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong, the recent announcement of a Nintendo Switch 2 Direct has only fueled the excitement further. With rumors swirling about potential new game announcements and updates on existing titles, the anticipation is palpable.

To add fuel to the fire, a recent tweet from the game’s developer, Team Cherry, featured a tantalizing picture of a chocolate cake with the caption “Just a little something sweet to tide you over until the big reveal #NintendoSwitch2Direct #HollowKnightSilksong.”

While the cake itself may not hold any hidden clues or secrets about the upcoming game, it has certainly stirred up a frenzy among fans who are desperate for any tidbit of information about Hollow Knight: Silksong. Will we finally get a release date? New gameplay footage? Only time will tell, but for now, we’ll just have to savor the delicious anticipation.
