Say goodbye to 2024

Tuesday is New Year’s Eve, the last day of 2024 — and there are plenty of opportunities to ring in 2025 across the Wasatch Front. One of the bigger events is Last Hurrah 2024!, happening from 8 p.m. to midnight at The Gateway, 50 S. Rio Grande St., Salt Lake City — it’s free to attend (though bring cash or a credit card for the drinks — hot chocolate, draft beer, wine and hot cocktails). ‘Modern Times’ with the Symphony

Charlie Chaplin made “Modern Times” in 1936, and his satire on capitalism and the dehumanizing effects of industrialized technology has held up remarkably well in the last 86 years. The Utah Symphony will screen the movie, with the symphony providing live musical accompaniment, Thursday at 7 p.m. at Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Sarah Silverman, live

Start the first weekend of 2025 with some laughs, as comedian Sarah Silverman headlines Friday at 8 p.m. at Kingsbury Hall, 1395 E. Presidents Circle (200 South), Salt Lake City. Fun Utah fact about Silverman: In the 1999 movie “Year of the Gun,” she played a foul-mouthed character whom Ryan Phillippe punches in the mouth in front of the old Bricks nightclub.
