The Philadelphia 76ers took on the Jazz in Utah on Saturday night. As the team faced the music in their first matchup of a new four-game Western road trip, the Sixers saw one of their own reach another personal career milestone.
Paul George rose for a three in the third quarter, and as it hit the bottom of the net, becoming the 2,291 of his career, George had made history as he overtook the ninth spot on the NBA’s all-time list of three-pointers made.

George tied Vince Carter, 2290, earlier in the night for the tenth most made threes in NBA history. With this shot, George would take sole possession of that spot, beginning the hunt for the eighth spot in NBA history, where former Sixer Kyle Korver currently sits with 2450.
George is still finding his footing in Philadelphia this season, at least offensively. He’s overcome a rash of early-season injuries, both to himself and his teammates, and has been a star defensively, but the offense, including his shooting, remains a work in progress.
Between the Sixers’ game in Charlotte, when he passed Jason Terry to become 10th on the all-time list, George had only made one three per game, which led to the crawl between accomplishments that was only eight made threes in distance.
The Philadelphia 76ers’ star forward Paul George made history last night as he climbed to the 9th spot on the all-time list of made three-pointers in NBA history. With his sharpshooting skills and deadly accuracy from beyond the arc, George has cemented himself as one of the greatest shooters in the league.
Surpassing legends like Ray Allen and Reggie Miller, George’s milestone is a testament to his hard work and dedication to improving his game. His ability to stretch the floor and knock down shots from long range has been a game-changer for the Sixers, and has helped propel them to the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
Fans and analysts alike are in awe of George’s shooting prowess, and are excited to see him continue to climb the ranks of the all-time three-point leaders. With his sights set on breaking into the top 5, there’s no telling how high George can rise in the record books.
Congratulations to Paul George on this incredible achievement, and here’s to many more threes to come! #TrustTheProcess #PaulGeorge #Sixers #NBAHistory
It’s the kind of win the Sixers could start building some real momentum and belief from, although they may not have all their stars as they look to continue this on Saturday night as they head on the road to Utah. Embiid, due to a left foot sprain, has been listed as questionable.
As has often been the case with Embiid when ruled as questionable, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him play anyway, even with this official injury report listing. However, the Sixers, especially with Maxey playing so well right now, shouldn’t need Embiid to compete for a win against a Jazz team that sits at 7-22, has a bottom-10 offense, and comfortably the worst defense in the NBA.
Other notes from the latest injury report, apart from Jared McCain remaining out indefinitely, include Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon being upgraded to probable, while KJ Martin (left foot stress reaction) remains out.
The Philadelphia 76ers may be without their star center, Joel Embiid, for their upcoming matchup against the Utah Jazz. Embiid has been listed as questionable for the game due to a lingering knee injury.
Embiid has been dealing with knee soreness for the past few weeks, and the Sixers have been cautious with his minutes in order to ensure he is fully healthy for the playoffs. However, it remains to be seen if he will be able to suit up for the game against the Jazz.
If Embiid is unable to play, it will be a significant blow to the Sixers, as he is their leading scorer and rebounder. They will have to rely on other players to step up in his absence and fill the void left by his absence.
Fans will have to wait and see whether or not Embiid will be able to take the court against the Jazz, but one thing is for certain – his presence will be sorely missed if he is unable to play.

Sixers Bell Ringer season standings: Jared McCain – 8 Paul George – 3.5 Tyrese Maxey – 3.5 Joel Embiid – 3 KJ Martin – 2 Guerschon Yabusele – 2 Justin Edwards – 1 Kelly Oubre Jr – 1 Ricky Council IV – 1 (No poll was posted following the 12/16 win over Charlotte, so in a Liberty Ballers first, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey each received half a Bell Ringer.)
Woof.
With no Joel Embiid the Sixers were thoroughly dominated by the league-best Cavaliers in Cleveland Saturday night, 126-99.
Tyrese Maxey got off to a hot start but nobody joined him at any point of the night.
The Sixers and Cavs were actually tied 30-30 after one. Cleveland then closed the second quarter on a big run, nailing over 60% of their threes in the first half and taking an 11-point lead into the locker room.
There was some shooting regression by the Cavs … but not nearly enough. Cleveland outclassed the Sixers in every aspect of the game Saturday night, putting the game away with a 33-21 third quarter that extended its lead to 23.
The Sixers are now 9-17 on the season, still sitting outside the play-in picture. Next up is a home matchup with Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs Monday night.
But first, a Bell Ringer with really only one choice.
Maxey had it going on early, ripping off a personal 8-0 run to force an early Cavaliers timeout. He added two assists and four more points as it looked like he could potentially carry the offense on a night where they desperately needed it.
After a quiet second quarter, Maxey did his best to try to drag the Sixers back into the game to start the second half. He was able to cut the lead down to eight with a triple at the 5:24 mark of the third, forcing another Cleveland timeout. The Cavs answered back with another barrage of threes and their lead never fell below double digits again.
It’s good to see Maxey finding his shooting stroke from deep again. There were a lot of weird theories and takes on why Maxey was struggling from three to start the season. He was 5-of-10 Saturday and is now 18-of-38 (47.3%) over his last four games, which should quell those concerns.
The issue against the Cavs was Maxey had trouble finishing inside the arc. That’s not uncommon for smaller guards against the massive frontcourt of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, but it did seem like Maxey missed a few decent looks he created for himself.
On a night that wasn’t particularly great for any Sixer, Maxey was easily their best player. You can feel free to vote for someone else in the poll and drop your pick in the comments.
Poll
Who was the Bell Ringer for the Sixers in their loss to the Cavs Saturday?
The Philadelphia 76ers faced a tough challenge on Thursday night as they took on the league-leading Cleveland Cavaliers without their star center Joel Embiid. Despite a valiant effort from rookie guard Tyrese Maxey, the Sixers ultimately fell short, losing 125-95.
Maxey, who has been a bright spot for the Sixers this season, put up a team-high 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting. However, he didn’t receive much help from his teammates as the Cavaliers dominated the game from start to finish.
The absence of Embiid, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, was clearly felt as the Cavaliers’ big men took advantage inside. The Sixers were outrebounded 49-36 and struggled to contain Cleveland’s frontcourt.
It was a disappointing performance for the Sixers, who have now lost three straight games and sit at 10-10 on the season. With Embiid’s status uncertain, they will need to find a way to regroup and bounce back in their next game.
Despite the loss, Maxey’s strong play was a silver lining for the Sixers. The rookie continues to impress and show why he was a steal in the 2020 NBA Draft. Hopefully, he can continue to lead the team in Embiid’s absence and help them turn things around.
Overall, it was a tough night for the Sixers, but they will need to quickly put this game behind them and focus on getting back on track in their next outing.
BOSTON — Caleb Martin is unaware of why he’s so successful against the Boston Celtics.
“I think they’re obviously a really good team, really well coached,” the 76ers forward said after his team’s 118-114 Christmas Day victory over the Celtics at TD Garden.
“I think I’ve always for the most part tried to rise to the occasion and play at the level that the game is being played,” he added, “and they make you rise a level. So it’s a credit to them.”
The Celtics are probably in no mood to pat themselves on the back.
Martin, once again, torched Boston. This time, it came during his first game against them as a Sixer. The forward scored 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting — including a career-high seven three-pointers.
“He’s playing against Boston,” center Joel Embiid said. “He hates them as much as I do. I guess I’ll take it. Nah, but he was great. I like when he’s not thinking. Tonight, he was just not thinking about it. Every time he had the ball, shoot or drive, obviously, he made his shots. We need him to keep doing that and building that confidence.”
The Sixers signed Martin in July, fully aware of his success against the Celtics.
As a member of the Miami Heat, Martin became the breakout star of the 2023 Eastern Conference finals against the Celtics. He averaged 19.3 points on 60% shooting and capped that series by scoring a playoff career-high 26 points in Game 7 in Boston to oust the favored Celtics and earn the Heat a trip to the NBA Finals.
Over the past two seasons, Martin averaged 13.6 points on 50% shooting — including 44% on three-pointers — against the Celtics during the regular season and playoffs. It marked his best scoring average against an Eastern Conference foe during that span.
“They’ve been calling me that since 2022-23,” Martin said of the modern-day Boston Strangler nickname.
The most notable Boston Strangler was former Sixers guard Andrew Toney in the 1980s. Before him, it was former Sixers guard Lloyd Free in the 1970s.
Toney (in 1982) and Free (in 1977) dominated the Celtics in decisive Game 7s in the playoffs.
“Any time you can develop some type of nickname in this league, obviously, that means people notice and you are doing the right thing,” Martin said. “And sometimes other people from that team don’t like you, which is always a good feeling. It’s fun.”
But on Christmas, it was more that the Celtics didn’t bother to guard him. They were more focused on defending the Sixers’ star players.
“That was the game plan,” Boston guard Jaylen Brown said. “We stick to the game plan. We trusted the game plan. Martin hit seven threes, and that’s tough and he’d done [it] before to us in the past.
“But going into it, we felt comfortable with letting him take all them shots and he just knocked them down.”
Knocking them down was an understatement.
Martin didn’t attempt a shot in the first quarter. But he drained both of his three-point attempts in the second quarter. After going 1-for-3 in the third, Martin was 4-for-4 from deep in the fourth.
“That’s what Caleb does,” Tyrese Maxey said. “That’s the Undertaker that we know. Shout-out to Caleb.”
In a stunning display of shooting prowess, Sixers’ Caleb Martin torments Boston Celtics once again with seven threes in a single game. Martin’s hot hand proved to be too much for the Celtics to handle, as he lit up the scoreboard and led the Sixers to a decisive victory.
This is not the first time Martin has given the Celtics trouble, as he has consistently been a thorn in their side with his sharpshooting abilities. His ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc has made him a key player for the Sixers, and a nightmare for opposing teams like the Celtics.
With this latest performance, Martin has solidified himself as a player to watch out for in future matchups against the Celtics. His deadly accuracy from long range makes him a dangerous threat on the court, and a valuable asset for the Sixers as they continue their push towards the playoffs.
Fans of the Sixers can only hope that Martin’s hot streak continues, as he has proven to be a key factor in the team’s success. With his ability to light it up from downtown, Martin has become a player that opposing teams must game plan for, and a player that Celtics fans dread seeing on the court.
Caleb Martin has hit a few bumps in the road to start his first season in a Philadelphia 76ers jersey, but it seems to finally all be coming together.
And what better time to find your groove in a Philly uniform than against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on Christmas Day. Martin and the Sixers took home one hell of a holiday gift on Wednesday in the form of an impressive 118-114 win over the defending NBA champions.
Tyrese Maxey snagged a lot of the headlines following the contest (deservedly so with a 33-point, 12-assist double-double) but Martin deserves at least a few mentions as well for his contributions in the holiday matchup. Martin sank a career-high seven triples on nine attempts with four of those threes coming in the rollercoaster fourth period that nearly saw the Celtics flip the game back in their favor. He ended up with 23 points on 8-for-11 field goal shooting with three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
“Listen, the way they were scheming defensively, they were certainly trying to plug off of him, so he had some really good looks. Again, he’s a capable shooter,” Sixers’ head coach Nick Nurse said postgame of Martin. “Now, that was a special night.”
It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for Martin. The 29-year-old forward came to Philadelphia as a free agent signing during the offseason — and an exciting signing at that. That hype hadn’t exactly translated on the court in the first few weeks of the season, with inconsistency shooting due in no small part (if not entirely) to a right shoulder impingement that was hindering Martin’s ability to raise his arms past a certain height.
He missed three games from the injury (stretched over two weeks due to NBA Cup scheduling) and returned just last weekend against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Martin put up 12 points, five rebounds, a steal and a block Monday in a win over the Spurs. Most importantly, he sank 3-of-5 attempted triples and looked comfortable shooting for the first time in a long time. That comfort continued on Wednesday with the 7-for-9 three-point shooting outing against the Celtics.
(He’s always had that interesting release with the kick. That’s not what we are looking at here. The raise and release is where he seemingly was experiencing pain shooting before and would result in even more of a hitch in his shot at times.)
“Also, as I’ve been saying to you guys, he’s much healthier now than he was two weeks ago, just feeling better,” Nurse said. “The first thing he said to me was just, ‘Coach, I just feel so much better physically.’ I said, ‘Well, it shows.’ And he was battling all night defensively as well, so it was good to see him back playing well.”
It’s a small sample size, of course, but Martin is starting to look like exactly what the Sixers were looking for when they signed him — a reliable wing on both ends of the floor. It’s something that is absolutely crucial when facing a team like the Celtics, just ask Joel Embiid.
“We’ve always lacked wings and when you go against Boston, you need those wings,” Embiid said postgame Wednesday. “They’ve got guys that can switch and they’ve still got a bunch of great players — [Jayson Tatum]. [Jaylen Brown]’s great, so you’ve got to be able to guard those guys. They want to shoot a lot of threes. They play a lot of 1-on-1 and create for their teammates, so you’ve got to make sure you don’t have any mismatches on the floor to be able to go against them. Like I said, we’ve always lacked a lot of wings in the past and I feel like you can never have enough, but I feel like we have quite a few now.”
Embiid wasn’t the only Sixer to point out how vital it is to have a player like Martin put up a performance like he did.
“That’s what Caleb does. That’s the Undertaker that we know so. So shoutout to Caleb,” teammate Maxey said of Martin’s performance after the game on Wednesday.
And what better time for the Undertaker to come alive again than against the Celtics, in Boston, on Christmas. Embiid is quick to praise Martin for his timeliness there, but adds an important caveat: it needs to keep happening. Martin will have to keep shooting, hopefully stay healthy with the shoulder and get into a real groove that lasts weeks and weeks, not just a few games at a time.
“He’s playing against Boston. He hates them as much as I do. I guess I’ll take it. Nah, but he was great. I like when he’s not thinking. Tonight, he was just not thinking about it every time he had the ball, shoot or drive. Obviously, he made his shots,” Embiid said.
“We need him to keep doing that and building that confidence.”
Caleb Martin’s Christmas Performance a Glimpse at Why the Sixers Brought Him to Philly
In the Philadelphia 76ers’ recent Christmas Day matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, Caleb Martin put on a show that had fans and analysts buzzing. The 26-year-old forward, who was acquired by the Sixers in a trade with the Miami Heat earlier this season, showed exactly why the team brought him to Philly.
Martin was a force on both ends of the court, finishing with a career-high 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. His energy and defensive intensity were infectious, as he hounded Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo all game long and made life difficult for the reigning MVP.
But it was Martin’s scoring outburst that truly caught everyone’s attention. He knocked down 6 three-pointers, attacked the rim with ferocity, and showed off his versatility as a scorer. His performance was a perfect example of the all-around impact he can have on a game when he’s firing on all cylinders.
The Sixers brought Martin to Philly because they saw him as a valuable piece who could provide scoring, defense, and energy off the bench. And in their Christmas Day win over the Bucks, Martin showed exactly why he was such a coveted addition to the team.
As the season progresses, it’s clear that Caleb Martin will continue to be a key contributor for the Sixers. His Christmas performance was just a glimpse of what he brings to the table, and fans can’t wait to see more of his impact in the games to come.
